André, Julie. "Characterisation of changes in the overall distribution of precipitation in the Mediterranean region with climate change, in the past and in the future, considering both extreme rainfall and dry-days frequency." Electronic Thesis or Diss., Institut polytechnique de Paris, 2024. http://www.theses.fr/2024IPPAX070.
Full textClimate change is known to have consequences on both mean and extreme precipitations, with potentially threatening impacts on societies. The Mediterranean region is particularly affected, being a hotspot of temperature and precipitation changes: this region is expected to get much drier, but with more extreme precipitation. Though the two extremes of precipitation (absence of rain -drought, dry spells etc. - and very heavy precipitation) are each crucial and well-studied, the evolution of the rest of the rain distribution has been quite overlooked in the literature. Still its study might help to get a broader and more coherent picture of the evolution over the last decades. In the Mediterranean, we commonly expect a “water cycle paradox”, i.e. decreasing mean annual precipitation (“drying”) while very heavy precipitation intensify. Still these signal are still unclear in observations. In this work, we look at how the whole precipitation distribution changes in the Mediterranean region over the recent past and the future projections. We use ERA5 reanalysis data over 1950-2020, and Euro-Cordex simulations for 1950-2100, both at daily timescale. We develop a methodology to study the temporal trends of the precipitation quantiles and their statistical significance. We first focus on wet-days distribution (days with more than 1 mm/day) then study how the change in dry-days frequency can impact the distribution. For wet-days distribution, both ERA5 reanalysis and Euro-Cordex models show four different behaviors. Some places where the quantile trend curve displays a “U-shape”, with decreasing rain quantiles up to a given threshold (“inversion quantile”) and then an increasing distribution tail. This is assimilated with the “water cycle paradox”. Two additional behaviors are observed : regions where the wet-days precipitation quantiles decrease, and others where they all increases.By modeling the wet-days distribution with a simple Weibull law (2-parameters), we manage to get an analytical criterion to deduce the precipitation trend regime based on the two parameters. By studying the statistical significance of the Weibull parameters, we show that the U-shape behavior is not significant in ERA5 data, while the “all quantile intensify” behavior is significant over Northern Europe. In a second time, we come back to the all-days distribution and look how its trend can differ from the wet-days distribution’s, due to the change of dry-days frequency. We compare the relative weight of precipitation occurrence and intensity in precipitation changes. Our results show that in the Mediterranean, the changes of precipitation appear dominated by changes in dry-days frequency instead of wet-days intensity change. We finally apply the developed methodology to future projections, using a subset of 15 Euro-Cordex models. We first compare results on the past period (1950-2020) with ERA5 data: the Cordex signal is consistent but not as strong as in this reanalysis. This may be due to a temporal lag in Euro-Cordex compared to observations. We analyze further the emergence of the signal on precipitation throughout the 21st century. We then study the future period 2070-2100, where we find a very good multi-model agreement on the trends behaviors: most models agree about a “all wet-days quantiles intensify” over Europe together with an increase of wet-days frequency, while over the Mediterranean, a decrease of dry-days frequency and a small signal of increased intensity is projected. By using again the Weibull model and analytical approach, we show that the future all-days regimes are significant and that in the future as well, the Mediterranean all-days precipitation is widely dominated by the strong increase of dry-days frequency
Wocke, Brendon John. "De la jouissance au "jouis-sens" : le jeu de mots dans l'oeuvre de Jacques Derrida." Perpignan, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013PERP1138.
Full textThe central thrust of this thesis lies in a study of wordplay in the work of Derrida, seen through the optic of textual “jouissance”. The starting point of the thesis is the realisation that it is perhaps better to consider Derrida’s writing in literary as opposed to in philosophical terms. In so doing this thesis opens with a study of Derrida’s writing in terms of, following Barthes, we can consider to be a “texte de jouissance,” a text which foregrounds an unexpected form of writing, breaking with tradition. The thesis undertakes an analysis of the manner in which Derrida’s wordplay evokes an esthetic of joy and of “jouissance”. This refers to both the notion of “jouis-sens” as understood by Lacan, though which we can understand (with Kristeva) the multiplication of meaning at the heart of Derrida’s expressive style, as well as to Derrida’s “poetic philosophy” which recalls Nietzsche’s “gay science. ” The ultimate question is that of an underlying philosophy of joy and of the pleasure of “poetic” expression which is implicitly articulated through Derrida’s wordplay. Far from being a purely idealistic philosophy, this thesis offers a vision of Derrida’s work as a philosophy concerned with the material aspects of textual production, Derrida’s style can thus be characterised as the expression a semiotic chora

Full textDuring linguistic activities such as communication or comprehension, knowledge stored in memory is an active participant, and action schemas are an integral part of this knowledge. These consist of a verb and a minimal thematic role: agent and patient. We conducted two normative studies to test the existence of privileged relations in event schemas, and we observed effectively a hierarchical organization composed of both prototypical and secondary elements. These norms also indicate that verbs make reference to connotative and denotative information, pointing to a unifying conception of associative memory. To verify this phenomenon of typicality, we realized two experiments based on the retrieval-practice paradigm (Anderson & Bjork, 1994). This brings into play agents that are strongly associated with verbs and others that are weakly associated with them whose activation level has been increased via practice. We hypothesized that if the exemplars are considered as prototypical, as in our norms, these would be inhibited so as to resolve a competitive dynamic. Our results were only partially consistent with our expectations. We have noticed in our two studies that there is a resistance to Retrieval-Induced Forgetting (RIF) by strong agents. We conclude that the verb determines the meaning of associated thematic roles and in particular, it irrepressibly activates prototypes

Full textTraditional historiography presents Judas as a Devil hero, with a negative influence. That thesis would like to refuse the dogmatic version of the Bible, about Judas, andinvites to another way, more dynamic. How Romanesque literature writes againstthis figure, beyond reductions and Manichaeism? Does-it proposed another version?A comparison between Auguy Makey and Jacques Duquesne attests that arehabilitation of that figure is working. But the divergence of these authors is abouttheir interpretation of Judas’ treatise. Faust myth with the first writer, and Oedipalwith the second, Judas appears as a complexly figure, beyond the violence of uniquemeaning, calling a new description, a deep mutation through an important language’sutopia, where melancholia and enjoying are revisited both, with a stochastic writing,by antinomies, silences and suspensions

Full textThe analysis of Greek vocabulary about the face in Chariton, Xenophon, Longus, Heliodorus and Achilles Tatius’s novels as a whole plans to show the definite interest, both aesthetic and sensory focused on this sovereign part of the body. So what is the importance attached to the hero or heroine’s faces? And how does the discourse explain its incarnation and organical reality? The face proves to be an interface between the private and social world, between interiority and expressiveness. So we can wonder how this privileged part of the body characterizes their permanent ethos ; we can wonder how it transmits their fleeting emotions to the reader, through the description of the physical look of the characters. The face catches attention. Its features mobilize the system of recognition and representation. Indeed the physical description of heroines as well as heroes is not limited to the face. But only the face, with nothing uncertain, irregular, disharmonious, is assigned to reflect the characters’ virtues but also their greatest suffering. « La mise en icônes »of characters’ representative features is part of the procedures of physical description that characterize the culture of the novel. Thus the novel likes to represent beauty by combining physical expressions with soul feeling. The faces of Greek novelistic heroes are revealed in a kind of mosaic at once anatomical and literary, evoking the basic elements that constitute them. Thus, without mixing up face and portrait, we have deconstructed the novelistic face to show its various facets, colour palette, intertextual literary and mythological references ; but also to show some invariants to, at last, rebuild it in a better way. We have therefore conducted a thorough study and analysis of the face not only as an entity but as a fragmented even blown up face. The detailed study of senses has endeavoured to emphasize passion and its effects, and show the emotions of the body between pleasure and suffering, affection and violence. On the one hand this research has permitted to highlight the elements common to the different novelists, their original writing and the importance granted to face and more generally to body in narratology. On the other hand it has led us to analyze the reflection of the values of the Greek society of their days
