Abstract:
The irruption of artificial intelligence (AI) and automated technology has substantially changed the journalistic profession, transforming the way of capturing, processing, generating, and distributing information; empowering the work of journalists by modifying the routines and knowledge required by information professionals. This study, which conceptualizes the “exo journalism” on the basis of the impact of AI on the journalism industry, is part of a research project of the Observatory for Information Innovation in the Digital Society (OI2). The results, derived from documentary research supported by case studies and in-depth interviews, propose that AI is a source of innovation and personalization of journalistic content and that it can contribute to the improvement of professional practice, allowing the emergence of a kind of "exo journalist", a conceptual proposal that connects the possibilities of AI with the needs of journalism’s own productive routines. The end result is the enhancement of the journalist’s skills and the improvement of the news product. The research focuses on conceptualizing a kind of support and complement for journalists in the performance of their tasks based on the possibilities of AI in the automatic generation of content and data verification.

Journalists are among the workers who continue to engage in journalism activities like news covering despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Journalists facing paradoxical conditions between being productive in news covering and the dangers of virus transmission that can infect at any time. In other hand, journalists need support equipment facilities to avoid virus transmission during news covering process. Moreover, various media companies announce layoffs and salary cuts by asserting business uncertainty. This study aims to describe journalists’ vulnerability within journalism activity and journalist as occupation during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. This study was conducted with a qualitative method by analyzing the primer data from 50 journalist various region and representatives of journalist’s association in Indonesia. Furthermore, we analyze secondary data that provided officially by Alliance of Independent Journalists Indonesia. Authors found that the lack of health insurance, support for preventing the spread of COVID-19, unilateral dismissals by media institutions, and salary cuts place journalists in a difficult position. Aspects of journalism activities that run normally without institutional or structural support legitimize the vulnerabilities experienced by journalists in Indonesia.

Abstract:
This article examines the role of authorial subjectivity in the work of Azilkhan Nurshaykov, a writer-journalist who contributed significantly to Kazakhstani literature and journalism. The scientific aspect of A. Nurshaykov's journalistic activity, which had a large impact on public opinion and played an essential role in the development of humanistic concepts, is discussed. The study's goal is to describe the author's concept in journalistic works based on personal experience, perspectives, feelings, analysis and evaluation. The primary focus of the research is the author's publicistic works, which contain the author's thoughts and opinions. The author's perspectives and approaches to public and societal issues are taken into account in the journalist's profession. The author's notion will be acknowledged in philosophical, social, cultural, personal, and other aspects depending on the work's subject and genre. The study examines theoretical and empirical methodologies, as well as contextually analyzing essential characteristics of authorship that contribute to the integrity and uniqueness of a journalist's work and determine individual style. This helps readers comprehend the concept of authorship in a journalist's work. The paper investigates the journalistic laboratory he worked in for nearly two decades and analyzes his perspectives on the concept of journalist. A writer-journalist's viewpoint based on life experience is critical for developing journalists' professionalism and competency. The study's relevance and innovation stem from the development of contextual analyses that connect the author's subjectivity in journalism with the stylistic-genre, creative, and poetic characteristics of A. Nurshaykov's works. The article's value is additionally boosted by providing theoretical explanations of features of authorial subjectivity of international and domestic journalists, including the role of journalistic texts in content production and their influence on reader perception.

Abstract:
Campus journalism is a place for students to develop their potential in the journalism field. Students who are agents of change not only provide quality news but also provide moral value in the news production process. Quality news can be raised through the role of a journalist in writing news (information). Prophetic journalism is a journalistic concept taken from the nature of the prophets. In this paper, we examine the application of the concept of prophetic journalism –journalism that imitates the prophetic characteristics of the Prophet Muhammad– among campus journalists. Prophet Muhammad is known for his four characteristics: siddiq (delivering accurate information), amanah (trustworthy as a source of information), tabligh (delivering information in its entirety), fathanah (a journalist is required to be smart in revealing the truth of the news). The data from this study is the result of observations from the daily life of the researcher when carrying out the news production process with other campus journalists ranging from electronic media (radio & television), print, and online. The results of this study indicate that campus journalists at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya apply prophetic journalism well. By implementing the prophetic characteristics of the Prophet Muhammad when carrying out journalistic activities, journalists can maintain the professionalism of journalists. By using ethnographic research methods or commonly referred to as field research, researchers make observations as the main data and are equipped with in-depth interviews with several campus journalists. We also propose the nature of Prophet Ibrahim to be incorporated into the concept of prophetic journalism as well. Prophet Ibrahim is known for the story of his courage to seek the truth and reveal it when everyone was against it. This courage is important in supporting journalistic activities among students and professionals.

A survey ( N = 1318) evaluated US newspaper journalists’ attitudes toward c ontextual reporting – stories that go beyond the immediacy of the news and contribute to societal well-being. Results indicated that journalists highly value professional roles associated with contextual reporting. Responses revealed new journalistic role functions, including the ‘Contextualist’, who placed high value on being socially responsible and accurately portraying the world. Analyses showed that younger journalists and female journalists highly valued three genres of contextual reporting: constructive journalism, solutions journalism, and restorative narrative. Additionally, a journalist’s belief in activist values such as setting the political agenda and pointing to possible solutions predicted more favorable views of all three forms of contextual journalism, while belief in an adversarial attitude predicted less favorable views of restorative narrative.

Abstract:
This study explores threats to journalists in Sindh, searching the journalist’s community, allocating its existence through a premeditated survey with directional questionnaire. Consulting 150 journalists to find out the essence, magnitude and targeting aspects of the threats they are facing in wake of their line of duty. Journalists and threats are both enter-linked since the birth of journalism, a journalist is a Watch-Dog or Gate-Keeper, who guards the boundaries of transparency, freedom of expression, sphere of laws and protects and promotes the social values and norms and facilitates political communication to educate and update the citizens. Doing all this in a part of the state where the situation of law and order is deteriorated, the population is heterogeneous in its nature, is a big challenge. Attacks on journalists have been searched from the history of media landscape for last 17 years in Sindh to weigh up the threats to Watch-Dogs. The study generalizes, whether working journalists are serving under pressure in an environment governed by threats or they feel safe and free to perform their journalistic duties. It also calculates the responses of the affected journalists in the outward appearance of complaints they file in connection with the threats faced for their professional work.

Abstract:
This article examines recent efforts to bring ‘solutions journalism’ – an approach to news coverage developed in the United States that encourages journalists to propose potential solutions to social problems – to the French regional press. Drawing on interviews and company documents from news organizations, we show that solutions journalism has found support among both management and journalists, though for different reasons. Whereas management see solutions journalism as a way to bolster shrinking audiences, journalists perceive an opportunity to regain relevance in diversified media companies whose emphasis on news has declined over time. Though solutions journalism changes little in terms of journalist’s everyday practices, its presence legitimates and valorizes marketing discourses, as journalists use it to describe efforts to grow audiences, boost sales and monetize content. As a result, we suggest that solutions journalism’s primary effect on the French regional press may be its operation as a ‘Trojan horse’ for marketing.

Abstract:
Digital technology has increased the interest of student activists engaging in journalistic activities. To participate in collaborative news production in the digital age, they need a better understanding of journalism, both conceptually and practically. Conceptually, to understand the new structure of journalism formed by digital networks. Practically, to recognize how the horizontal structure of the digital network opens equal and collaborative opportunities for professional journalists and non-journalist actors. Literature studies on scientific publications using the keyword “networked journalism” indicate opportunities for student activists to become non-journalistic actors, who can be involved in news production and become actors who act as programmers or switchers in networked communicative power in the digital era. Keywords: Networked Journalism, Collaborative Opportunities, Journalists, Digital Age

Abstract:
Journalism plays an important role in our society. But what happens when a journalist decides to pursue a new profession? The loss of a journalist from a newsroom can have a significant impact, particularly when that journalist takes with them institutional knowledge and a history of the market. This study uses qualitative interviews with 12 former broadcast journalists to investigate what factors cause them to leave the field and what the implications are for the industry. Relying on burnout theory as a framework, this study reveals three key reasons broadcast journalists decided to walk away. First, they faced increasing demands including long or unconventional work hours, a tenuous work-life balance, difficult stories to cover, and doing more with fewer resources. Second, they endured difficult issues with management including unfulfilled promises, the increasing commercialization of news, unrealistic and unethical expectations, the consolidation of the industry, and a lack of appreciation. Third, they felt they were not adequately compensated. This study recommends more support and professional development for broadcast journalists, more cross-training opportunities, and improved financial compensation.

Abstract:
Today’s journalism students are learning in a time in which new technology innovations, including online news sites, blogs, and social media, have become a prominent part of the journalism industry. Whether it’s newspapers, public relations, or broadcast, technology has become a part of every area of journalism. While several studies have focused on how journalism classes should be taught in lieu of this change, how students are learning and how they feel about this changing industry has yet to be shared. This research uses both a survey of 203 current, undergraduate pre-journalism students at a large, Southwestern university, as well as focus group interviews with several subgroups of 11 of those students. The results show, not surprisingly, that journalism students are heavy users of technology and social media. They also show that a majority of journalism students prefers consuming media online. However, although students use technology and social media frequently, and also consume media online, there is evidence that suggests that they would rather learn face-to-face with an instructor than take online classes. In addition, they feel positive about their future in the changing industry.

Fan, Lu. "Existential Journalism: Ethical Theory for Citizen Journalists on Weibo in China." OpenSIUC, 2015. https://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/theses/1736.

Full text
Abstract:
As one of the most popular social media platforms in China, Sina Weibo has created an environment for the Chinese people to share opinions and post information on events they have witnessed. Thus, Weibo users can be citizen journalists, though most of them have played the role unconsciously. Although Weibo has existed for about six years, citizen journalism is still new to most Chinese people. Some scholars have studied Weibo from the perspective of public opinion or better governance rather than from its ethical demands and influence. This paper discusses the ethical problems of citizen journalism that arose in three case studies where Weibo posts were immediate sources of news and information on disasters and were considered important by mainstream media and the public, but where the posts also provided false information. In addition, a survey found that most Chinese respondents had posted news or information on Weibo, but very few consider themselves citizen journalists. Surprisingly, non-journalists are no more likely to trust citizen journalism than are journalists. Non-journalists are getting more news from citizen journalism on Weibo about national disasters, but they put more trust and credibility in mainstream media. Respondents thought witnessing events and quickly reporting on them were the biggest advantages of citizen journalists, while the biggest problems were bias, emotional reports, rumor and invasion of privacy. About two-thirds of respondents think self-restraint is the best way to handle ethical problems resulting from citizen journalists, but about half favor more legislation. In a striking difference from Western expectations, a relatively small percentage of Chinese respondents think independence from the government is an important journalistic value. Finally, the paper concludes that the public sphere concept is relevant in China in the wake economic reforms and the advent of social media. And it argues that the theory of existential journalism may offer an ethical guide for China’s citizen journalists by emphasizing both freedom and personal responsibility. Finally it suggests that mainstream media, journalists and media scholars play the main role of promoting journalistic ethical values on Weibo.

Abstract:
This bachelor's thesis is based on a Minor Field Study (MFS) conducted in Rabat and Casablanca, Morocco, April and May 2015. The aim is to study Moroccan journalists' attitudes towards citizen journalism and its impact on the role of the journalist: 1) With what claims do they define citizen journalists and journalists respectively? and 2) In what ways do these claims relate to the impact citizen journalists can be expected to have on the role of the journalist and freedom of expression in Morocco? In the discussion, theories on discourse, professionalism, journalistic ideals, and development journalism are applied. Semi-structured interviews in French were conducted with five journalists working within five different print and online publications. The material was analyzed according to a model of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The interviewed journalists give accounts of how they are "condemned to be connected" to the vox populi that citizen journalists constitute. There is a prevalence of professionalism discourse where verification and objectivity are described as what characterizes a journalist. But respondents also emphasize "teamwork", and that "all journalists are citizen journalists", and these themes are interpreted as characteristic of development journalism. Within professional discourse in a development journalism context, the reliability of citizen journalists is downplayed. At the same time, citizen journalists are described as freer than professional journalists. In conclusion, it is considered likely that development journalist discourse sets an obstacle to the liberalizing impact of citizen journalism.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The spread of news is accelerating. Today, the time for publishing a piece of news until it reaches the reader is minimal. The online journalists are in the middle of the news flow. They are amongst the first persons who receive the incoming news to the editorial staff. It does not take longer than 10 minutes from receiving the incoming news to the editorial staff before it has been published on the web. During these 10 minutes online journalists manage both to check the source, contact possible witnesses, write the news and finally publish it. There is a lot of work that has to be compiled in a short time. The time gap between the incoming of news to the editorial staff until it is published is almost minimal. An increased speed of the publishing of news has arisen within online journalism and this has an influence on the journalists, their working methods and the contents which is published in the web-edition of the papers. This paper had the intention to investigate what influence the speed has on the local online journalism and also what consequence this speed has on the local journalists and the news which is transmitted from the editorial staff to the readers. In order to obtain this intention two questions were formulated. The purpose with these two questions was to investigate the impact of the speed on the journalistic ideals and what influence this phenomenon has on the online journalists´ collection, processing and distribution of information. In Sweden there are few studies available regarding the influence of the speed on local online journalism. Most of the existing research within the area online journalism and speed focus instead on large, foreign and nationwide media companies. These companies concentrate on a large target group in contrast to the local newspapers which reach a smaller group of readers living in a specific geographical area. There exists therefore a small unexplored area in the scientific research. The aim with this paper was to contribute new information to the area online journalism. In order to be able to achieve this intention, the paper was based on two qualitative partial studies namely conversation interviews, in order to achieve a deeper knowledge of the local online journalists´ opinions and valuations regarding the speed and a participant observation to elucidate if they translate words into deeds. The observations took place at the editorial staff of NWT (Nya Wermlands-Tidningen), which is the largest local paper in Värmland. The results from the qualitative partial studies showed that the speed does not have a negative influence on the online journalists´ collection and processing of information. The reason for this is that the journalistic ideals are strong amongst the employees and they have also regular routines, which allow them to perform a good work. One further important factor why the speed does not have the same penetrating power in these two partial studies can to a large extent be due to the local context where the studies have been performed. The absence of deadlines has resulted in the fact that no major lack of time can be perceived in local journalism. The employees can to a great extent decide the speed. The speed has a negative impact within online journalism when it comes to distribution of information. The speed has here a larger penetrating power compared with the two other partial studies collection and processing of information. The main reason for why journalists strive after speed regarding distribution of information is the desire to be first with a piece of news. An important conclusion which was obtained in this study was that journalists on a local level strive after a quick publishing speed in form of a continuous updating, not necessarily for the reader s´ sake but because of the will to beat their competitors.

AbstractThe chapter explores transformations in journalism caused by the spread of digital technologies. These include collecting and displaying information, collaboration, carrying out journalistic investigation, entrepreneurship and regimes of exploitation. The chapter pays attention to the role of the government, private media companies, technology companies, cultural institutions and other organizations that advance and regulate journalistic work in Russia in new ways. It ultimately discusses new opportunities and new challenges available to journalists. The chapter conceptualizes digital journalism vis-à-vis alternative journalism and vis-à-vis grassroots journalism. In the final section of the chapter, I define digital journalism as a world-building process, thus contributing to theories of transmedia storytelling and cross-platform collaboration.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter examines the difficult conditions Nigerian journalists faced while reporting during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the threats and dangers faced by Nigerian broadcast journalists and its implication for journalism practice amid a pandemic. Using a qualitative approach, we conducted nine in-depth interviews (online) with broadcast journalists in 2020 and employed thematic analysis to address the study’s findings. The study found that the safety threats encountered by journalists during the COVID-19 outbreak include the risk of contracting the virus, financial insecurity, and emotional trauma, among others. To combat these safety threats, journalists were responsible for their safety; hence, they ensured adherence to safety protocols with little or no support from the media houses they worked for. The implication of these safety threats to journalism practice includes reduced work output, reduced dissemination of factual reports, low-quality stories, and the lack of in-depth and investigative news reports during the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria.

Abstract:
This chapter summarizes the book’s central findings and explores their implications for journalism research and practice. Many who work in or study journalism are clamoring for solutions to the profession’s challenges. Increasingly, those solutions are more focused on improving journalism’s understanding of and relationship with the news audience than at any other point in the profession’s history. Yet, as the previous chapters have shown, the assumptions underlying attempts to improve the journalist–audience relationship ultimately reveal more about those pursuing them than they do about whom the audience comprises and how the news actually enters into their everyday lives. They also overwhelmingly stem from the reasonable yet inaccurate notion that reshaping journalism’s relationship with the public is firmly within journalists’ control. The author concludes that journalists must embrace journalistic humility. They must accept the limitations they face as they try to change audience behavior if they are to successfully navigate the news industry’s most pressing problems.

Abstract:
As a rule, it's fair to say that journalists and statisticians have little in common. Yet, journalists and national statistical agencies are virtually inseparable. Why? Because the general public is an important audience for national statistical agencies and the news media are a powerful tool for reaching this audience. Most journalists are uncomfortable with numbers: many are unable to calculate a percentage increase; many more would find it difficult to explain the difference between a percentage decline and a percentage point decline. Most probably find data boring. A journalist with specialized knowledge of statistics is a rarity. Statistics Canada, like most national statistical agencies, places great importance on communicating with the media. Our challenge is twofold: to engage the interest of journalists in our data and surreptitiously raise the level of their statistical literacy and to engage the interest of our statisticians in presenting statistics in a manner which the journalist, as a layperson, can understand. The paper will outline the various approaches that Statistics Canada has taken to meet this twofold challenge and will discuss our experiences in educating both journalists and statisticians to tell the story behind the numbers.

Abstract:
Journalism is a public good from which citizens should benefit. For journalism to accomplish its mission as a public good, journalists and media must be independent and economically sustainable. Most importantly, they must be safe in performing their professional duty to professionally inform the public. Nevertheless, how can journalists report in a situation when they are forcibly expelled from the national parliament? What are the implications of such a case, and what are the lessons learned? This paper provides an overview of the court case of “SELMANI AND OTHERS V. “THE FORMER YUGOSLAV REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA” by the European Court of Human Rights in which violation of the right to freedom of expression under Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights is proclaimed for the forcible removal of journalists from the gallery of the Parliament of Macedonia on 24 December 2012. The methodology in preparing this paper is based on an assessment of the stated court case, other cases relevant to Article 10 of the ECHR, follow-up documents by competent authorities and credible media reports. The importance of this case can be seen from the fact that it represents the first court case of ECtHR for breaching Article 10 of the Convention in Macedonia and second that this case represents an essential practice that gives knowledge to all members of the Council of Europe how to assure that the freedom of speech and freedom of information should be secured within the national parliaments. Abstract:
The changes that are taking place in the essence of journalism as a social and professional activity are caused by the mixing of the practice of professional and citizen journalists, by the ability of media products to be distributed through a variety of media and digital channels, by the audience’s commitment not only to consume them through the multiple technological devices, but also personally to participate in their creation. The traditional norms of what journalism is and what are its functions, meaning and influence are a subject of continuous metamorphosis. The new types of journalism increase in the social, professional, and empirical field of media production. The journalism theory is enriched, and the analysis of specific models and professional standards is stimulated. The familiar notion of journalism as centralised around news production is expanded and it allows the description of new practices, which have been assessed as peripheral, hybrid, alternative. The journalism research evaluates new media practices produced by alternative media or those in the field of specialist journalism. The journalists in such start-up media have a sense of the mission of their activity, of being at the forefront of technological, social, and cultural transformations in society, of forming a community culture of exchange between them as content creators and their audience as consumers, but also as participants in the content creation, verification and distribution. Such media can be evaluated as the “agents of media innovation” in relation not only to the professional and social standards in the journalism, but also to the influence that technology and social environment have on the contemporary virtual man.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to map distance learning for the profession of a journalist, or to raise the professional capacity of journalists in the Western Balkans, in institicional as well as non-institutional training centers. The intention of the author is first make an overview of the existing forms of distance learning for media on the territory of the Western Balkans, and to determine on what level of education they are. The next step is to test how much training for new digital media technology would be the most effective if distance learning is implemented because internet is a common denominator between the two. Thus, the subject of learning and the basic teaching method are related to the use of new technologies. The starting point is that in practice the distance learning for the media profession is much more complex than the definition because it involves the use of new technologies and new interactive teaching methods, which are still not implemented enough in the Western Balkans. So, it includes exactly what it is simultaneously preparing students for: setting multimedia content on the Internet and achieving interactivity with the audience. Methods used in this paper are: a) the method of theoretical analysis, which includes a critical analysis of the theoretical assumptions underlying the approaches on distance learning in the field of multimedia platforms on the Internet, and b) descriptive method to describe past experiences of distance learning in academic institutions and non-governmental organizations in the Western Balkans aimed at improving professional standards in the media, c) modeling method, making model of distance learning for working in online media possible. The technique for data collection is the interview. In the teaching process of distance learning the impact of digital technologies in the work is decomposed in terms of each of the following elements: a) contextual information in which distance learning is taking place in the countries of the Western Balkans, b) teacher c) participant (journalism students, journalists) and d) subject/content of the distance learning program (multimedia platform on the Internet), e) application of knowledge in practice, namely preparing journalistic contents for media on the Internet. Basic preliminary results indicate that so far in the Western Balkans, there are no well-developed distance learning programs for the use of new digital media technologies in the creation and deployment of multimedia content on the Internet and for achieving interactivity with the audience.

Abstract:
The article is dedicated to theoretical understanding of the problem of development and protection of the rights of foreign and domestic journalists. The modern reality of journalistic activity, including the full scale russian aggression, was highlighted. The activities of foreign journalists that come to Ukraine to shoot and write materials to inform their audience with the current situation were carefully studied and analyzed. But on the other hand, the presence of different foreign press agencies in Ukraine can cause harm to national security, because information provided by foreign journalists can be used by hostiles in their criminal deeds. The harsh situation with journalists’ rights is proved by reports about targeting press-labelled cars, assassinations and burglarizing of journalists on annexed territory. War in Ukraine became the first precedent when occupational army prevent press associations to shoot and report crimes they commit there. Materials and photos provided by Ukrainian and foreign journalists do not only give emotional and information pictures to readers and the public, but also are used in courts for persecution. Because of systematic violation of journalists’ rights by russian forces, they demand an eager change of European and national law to punish criminals and increase responsibility for their crimes. Today demand on information is high. One can say that the most precious thing and one of the most valuable goods is information. The main priority today is the rights of journalists their safety Problematic issues of journalistic activity in today’s conditions are highlighted as destabilizing factors in the protection of journalists’ rights. Ways to solve the outlined problematic issues are provided. Key words: journalism, journalist, law, ensuring rights, rights and freedoms, war, invasion, journalistic activity.

Rudyk, Myroslava. BLOGGING PLATFORMS AS ARENAS FOR THE MEDIA ACTIVITIES OF CITIZEN JOURNALISTS. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, March 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2024.54-55.12164.

Abstract:
The article is dedicated to the investigation of blogging platforms as information and communication arenas during wartime. It analyzes the media activities of citizen journalists as a crucial component of the overall information landscape in Ukraine, outlining the peculiarities of their work, the specifics of information dissemination, and the prospects for the development of citizen journalism as a whole. The advantages and disadvantages of citizen journalism are highlighted. Journalism is one of the most dynamic spheres of our existence, and the information space in Ukraine has undergone significant changes since the full-scale war. The development of technological tools always transforms journalism, elevating it to new levels of possibilities. The use of modern blogging platforms, widely accessible not only to professional journalists but also to activists, has contributed to powerful changes in the information sector. Citizen journalism during the Russo-Ukrainian war has taken on entirely different dimensions than before, prompting new reflections on the role of citizen journalists. This expands the scope of the researched issue, from ethical considerations and adherence to journalistic standards to understanding the safety of information activities for both journalists and humanity as a whole. Not every blogger can be called a citizen journalist. The crucial characteristic of citizen journalism, as opposed to mere blogging, is self-awareness, active social action, dedication to an idea, drawing attention to a problem, lobbying for public interests, and serving the function of public control. In the article were examined the activities of citizen journalists, who meet professional standards and exemplify citizen journalism. These include Ihor Lachenkov, Serhiy Sternenko, and Kostyantyn Liberov. Their blogging platforms and social networks were analysed, their content characterised, and posting frequency assessed. The activities of citizen journalists become most in-demand when media representatives cannot capture an event promptly at a particular moment. Citizen journalists find it easier to disseminate information through blogging platforms and social media, especially considering the tremendous trust these platforms enjoy. Survey results illustrate the colossal trust in these platforms. When asked, «What mass media tools did citizens use to get news in 2022?» the responses were as follows: 1. Social networks – 74%, 2. News websites – 42%, 3. Television – 36%, Radio – 11%, Print media – 3%. We observe a trend in the Ukrainian information space where some bloggers position themselves as citizen journalists, even though they previously did not have such a pronounced civic position. This trend became particularly evident at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine when influencers started using their blogs to inform their audience about the events in Ukraine, mobilizing them for active volunteer actions and resisting enemy challenges. Keywords: citizen journalism, information dissemination, blogging platforms, war.

Abstract:
For the first time in Ukrainian journalism, the issue of totalitarian journalism has been outlined. The basis of the analysis is the archival materials of the Chernivtsi regional newspaper «Soviet Bukovyna» founded in 1940, which was re-registered in 1991 with the name «Bukovyna». The specifics of the formation of the assets of «pen workers» during the Soviet era are clarified; the qualitative composition of the staff, the reasons for their turnover and the typical types of journalists of that time were analyzed; information about the trials and investigations of journalists who were widely used against them in accordance with the legislation of 1940 wasintroduced into scientific circulation; biographical portraits of individuals are given. The personnel policy of the Bolshevik Party in the western Ukrainian territories annexed on the eve of World War II had its own specifics. The editors-in-chief of the newly formed newspapers were usually verified personnel sent from the eastern regions. They were selected primarily for the most important ideological qualities – loyalty to the cause of the Bolshevik Party, the ability to pursue its policy in the entrusted case. Literary abilities, accurate knowledge of the specifics of the journalistic craft, practical experience in this field were desirable, but not decisive. With the enactment of a strict law in 1940 on criminal liability for breach of labor discipline, delays in work without good reason, the cases of a number of journalists were transferred to the district courts at the place of work. In the first postwar years, the Central Committee of the party strongly encouraged local party committees to issue to functionaries of the ideological front so-called party vouchers for work in newspaper editorial offices. Keywords: journalism of the totalitarian era, newspaper «Soviet Bukovyna», cadres of journalism, types of Soviet journalists, trials and investigations against journalists, journalistic destinies.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the process of preparation and features of conducting interviews with persons who have fased traumatic experiences in war conditions. A comparative analysis of the typical interview and sensitive interview is presented, which allows journalists to comply with all requirements that would not harm interviewees and preserve the balance in the journalist-guest-audience triad. The essence of the new terminology that began to be used in Ukraine during the full-scale war – «journalism of trauma» and «collective trauma» – is revealed. Emphasis is put on society’s ability to experience and make sense of collective trauma through the stories of individuals told in sensitive interviews. Sensitive content is significant during the war, because through human stories and personal testimonies, the world gets an idea of horrors, so one can feel the fullness of this tragic stage in the country’s history. Russia’s war against Ukraine significantly changed the working conditions of journalists, because the need to cover tragic events (murders, rapes, shelling, destruction) forced media representatives to study new rules of communication. Sensitive interviews require more thorough preparation, often even contradicting the established rules that editorial offices have used for years. Reliving the trauma and strong emotions during such interviews can help society form a new experience if the interview is conducted properly, or retraumatize if the journalist has neglected important rules. Ukrainian interviewers gain this unique practice for world journalism every day, which makes scientific research relevant and necessary. Key words: interview; empathy; collective trauma; sensitive content; standards of journalistic creativity; war journalism.
