Full textSince years, the transformation of Chinese society has been frequently mentioned in media and scientific works. Except the economic boom and further progress, this transformation is simultaneously accompanied by social problems, such as widened gaps and intensified conflicts between social classes; the discriminations against marginalized groups… However, very little attention focuses on one of their origins or their consequences: the ignorance and the misunderstandings about educational issues. Speaking of this theme, comparing with other educational institutions, family in Chinese society often plays the most significant role, because family relationships and values built the whole society until today. To a certain extent, if we don’t study this theme, then we couldn’t understand Chinese society and analyze its risks. For this reason, we undertake this research on the transformations of family education in China and its sociocultural dimensions. In order to highlight the link between family education and its environment, we choose to focus only on the adolescence, because from this step of life, the influences of environments become more and more powerful and compete with those of the family. By a survey with teenagers’ families in a Chinese city, we thus explore some strong correlations between the domestic world and exterior space and the challenges for today’s Chinese family education, such as the rejection of traditional virtues in the moral education, the differentiation in educational perceptions between social classes, etc

Full textIn the eight novels Les Thibault by Roger Martin du Gard (published between 1922 to 1940), the author addresses the reader and describes the world in which the former lives. The objective of this thesis is to examine Martin du Gard’s discourse with respect to some aspects of the multilateral relationships between society, author and oeuvre. R.M.G’s novels informed society of his time and were themselves shaped by society. The author moulded by society then constructs a fictional world. The relationships in Les Thibault are autobiographical in nature whether familial, gender, social or religious and these constitute the principal means of understanding the oeuvre and the author’s own life.To evaluate the reception of Roger Martin du Gard’s work among the Chinese public, the final part of this thesis analyses the two translations of Les Thibault, published in China in the 1980s. Comparison with a Chinese trilogy, Torrent (Family – Spring – Autumn, 1932-1940), by Ba Jin (Pa Kin), although very different but which also considers family and social relationships, allows consideration of how Roger Martin du Gard’s message crosses frontiers and reflects universal concerns, those of humanity itself

Full text
The thesis is a research based on a case study of the inter-relation of a Chinese family firm and a Chinese family: the Nanyang Brothers Tobacco Company and the Jian family. The article will be discussing on the rationale and practices that influence a firm on its ownership, authority, operations and developments; In addition, the ground of these influences towards its family growth, expansion, connection with other families, eventually leading to a lineage evolution.
Throughout the study, I have indicated that the Jian family is a small family. Hence, most of its members have to rely on their paternal and maternal relatives, or the Cantonese fellows to operate Nanyang. In the beginning stage, this group of family members could obtain a position in Nanyang through relationship with the Jian family. However, their career paths in Nanyang are subject to their performances and the changes of relationship with the Jian family at some point in the future.
In spite of ample working experience gained in overseas, most members from the Jian family did not learn about modernization through academic choice. Notwithstanding the evidence that the Jian family has introduced the modern skills and technology into the process of Nanyang’s manufacturing and management, it is unlikely that the authority could forgo the conventional methodology in order to adapt to the advanced formulas. Over and above that, this group of family members regards this phenomenon as a disadvantage towards their position in Nanyang. The threat level of present authority and ownership determines the success rate of the evolution within a Chinese family firm. Modernization could be realized if only the present authority were not affected. However, the evolution within a firm is not a zero-sum game. And therefore, many of the Chinese family firms adapt to the integration of modern and conventional management approach.
The lack of communication efficiency between the local government and Jian family, as well as Nanyang is the fundamental of its political position. Due to its political positioning, Nanyang unavoidably faces difficulties in declining requests from the government and to strive for greater opportunities. Like any other merchants during the Republican Era of China, they could not gain a better treatment under these circumstances.
The research indicated four principles for these Chinese family firms. Firstly, when a Chinese family firm is also a stock corporate at the same time, its ownership of the company’s share will directly impact on its individual authority. Secondly, family members, relatives, and fellows could achieve an easy entry into a Chinese family firm based on its relationship. However, the career paths in the firm are subject to their individual performances and the relationship with the family. Thirdly, the threat level of present authority and ownership determines the success rate of the evolution within a Chinese family firm. Modernization could be realized if only the present authority were not affected. Otherwise, modernization will be denied at the initial stage. Lastly, entrepreneurship is a double-edged sword. It allows a firm to unleash its greatness; or, a significant drawback.

This study examines the cooperative model of elementary school homeroom teachers working with “Taiwan Rainbow Family Life Education Association” paraprofessional volunteers to promote life education courses, while aiming to elucidate homeroom teachers and volunteers cognitive awareness and perspectives on implementing life education, as well as considering pragmatic measures for overcoming obstacles encountered along the way. The study deploys a qualitative approach, relying predominantly on interviews, with field-based observation, literature review and personal reflection notes, along with theoretical and explanatory interpretations, eliciting the following findings: 1. Professional educators unique life experiences tend to richly inform and profoundly impact their cognition and worldviews about life education, further influencing their curricular planning considerations and responsiveness to incorporation of life education across their curriculum; important exemplary anecdotal lessons from their personal lives, also serve to exhibit significant clarification and portrayal purposes during their actual teaching. 2. The homeroom teachers and “Rainbow” volunteers cooperative model for promotion of life education, varies tremendously from traditional discussions of cooperation models emphasizing underlying motivation for cooperation, historical cooperation, cooperative methods, or cooperative efficacy, instead evincing an asynchronous, incommensurate input model for officious intermeddler cooperation. 3. Homeroom teachers and Rainbow volunteers display varied appreciation of the difficulties facing implementation of life education across the curriculum, with homeroom teachers largely considering that the primary concerns lie with inadequate instructional time and lack of appropriate curricular materials, while the Rainbow volunteers tended to regard the almost invisible, passive support from the school and faculty as constituting the key obstacles to successful implementation.

This thesis aims to study how a renowned Buddhist nun Reverend Di-jiao of Taiwan Dizan Temples developed a simple but unique practices for the progressive attainment of ultimate pure land for her disciples. The effluent Taiwan society saw a rapid economic growth geared towards globalization, which ultimately transformed the political and modernization of Formosa Island, resulting in freedom of expression and preaches of religions and mushrooming of the traditional Buddhist temples enabling them entering into an age of Golden Buddhism. Long treated as the “Ying deity” of the “ life after death” world among laymen, Dizan Bodhisattva actually belongs to both the world of “Ying- life after death world “ and “ Yang –the current world that we live”. Lately Dizan Bodhisattva had been transformed under the “charismatic” leadership of reverend Di Jiao, where Dizan Bodhisattva contrary to being regarded as the “Ying deity”, had also been raised to the level of “Yang” Bodhisattva worshiped by her disciples, even displayed at their homes and public areas. What made Dizan Bodhisattva Worship became popular were attributed to the numinous and mystical experiences centered around Dizan Bodhisattva, Reverend Di Jiao and her disciples. Through solving cases of her disciples facing with family and social problems, Reverend Di- jiao came to the conclusion that the best medicine to solve their catastrophes is by promoting 「San Xiang Fo Hua」or the three practices of Buddhist Family Practices, ie the Tri-Buddhist Practices: Buddhist Style Wedding 、Buddhist Style Pre Natal Education and Buddhist Style Family life among her followers. Through her years of cultivation of the practices, one can see that it had improved the fate of her disciples and fostered stabilities of the society and nation. These practices look like just another common practice by laymen, but Reverend Di-jiao interwoven the practice of Dizan Bodhisattva with Tri-Buddhist Family Practices, promising to ultimate Pure land salvation.

In North Song Dynasty(北宋), Song Ren-Zong(1010-1063)(宋仁宗) attempted to reinstate. The Family Temple(Jia-Miao) System (家廟制度) which prevailed in Tang Dynasty (唐代). But just Wen Yan-Bo(文彥博) Family Temple was set up at that time. Strictly speaking, to reinstate the system had no success. Sixty-five years later, in Zheng-He(政和)third year(1113), Song Hui-Tsung(宋徽宗)( 1082-1135) and his ministers replaced the old with the new, and their movement made The Family Temple System have a feasible way. The Family Temple System was an unprecedented development in South Song Dynasty(南宋). A few “Important Ministers”(重臣) , who have outstanding contribution to the Country , could have their own Family Temple(Jia-Miao). Despite of that situation, the system sustained stably in South Song Dynasty. Roughly speaking, Family Temples(Jia-Miao) of Important Ministers were founded during each emperor’s term of office. The Family Temple System also developed three different ways of foundation in South Song Dynasty. First, the emperor gives Family Temples to Important Ministers particularly. Second, Ministers apply for Family Temples on their own. Third, descendants of ministers apply for Family Temples. The third way is special. One minister’s descendants believe their ancestor have important contribution to the Country, they can apply to the Emperor for Family Temple of the minister. They can help their ancestors to found The Family Temple as if the application had been allowed. Except the Minister’s Family Temple, unprecedented “The Queen Family Temple”(皇后家廟) was founded in South Song Dynasty. Helping the Queen’s family to promote was the main function of The Queen's Family Temple. In this study, the development of Family Temple(Jia-Miao) System in South Song Dynasty is the main point. I try to inquire into the operation﹑adjustment and the meaning of the time about the system in South Song Dynasty.

Full textUsing a sample of 216 family firms listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange with time series data spanning 1990--2008, I investigate the causes and effects of ownership concentration by means of family trust. I fmd that when family control is important (when there exists a large amount of family intangibles), there is a higher propensity that family trust is used to concentrate ownership and secure control, provided that the cost of using it is low (small family size hence low family conflict). However, when there are more and more family members after generations, the benefit of preserving the intangibles may not be high enough to cover the cost of potential family conflict, leading to firm value loss. Moreover, the cost of using trust magnifies during difficult periods such as financial distress, economic downturn and leadership succession. Hence, firms with high potential family conflict have poorer performance during difficult time if family trust is used for holding the firm's controlling stake. Family trust also induces common pool problem. Family members tend to extract resources from the family firm as much and as early as possible, leading to higher payout and slower firm growth.

Family of Fan-jiang is a very specific family, whose surname comes from Shin-wu. Even though they spread worldwide, for all the members, Shin-wu still remains their initial cradle. In the first year of Chien-lung (1736 AD), their ancestor ( Fang-jiang, Dan Kao) moved to Taiwan . He got off the ship at Down Tamsui ( Nanliao) and went to Shin-wu to clear the land. Then he led other family members there for the large-scale clearing. The Fang-jiang family in Shin-wu area managed to keep their social status of leading family in the period of power shifting in the Japanese era in Taiwan . How they were able to maintain this status? What is the relationship between this family and the colonial government during the Japanese occupation? What kind of economic benefits were obtained by the Fang-jiang family when they cooperated with Japanese in the education policy? How this family became the leading family in the area by controlling the political, economic power and social relation in this period? These topics will be explored in this paper. Through the land, the family member entered the administrative system and grasped the political keystone in the Shin-wu area. The Fang-jiang family’s cooperation with the Japanese government in developing education was the key for power. Later the family obtained the chartered right of the public business and became a new rising entrepreneur. With the wealth, the family was able to foster their children to gain degrees in the higher education. Then the family could obtain their political power and wealth through their young generation. The Fang-jiang family accumulated their influences in political, economic, and education domains. Through the help of the colonial regime and social relation, the Fang-jiang family became the domestic leaders in the district in the Japanese era from a family as landlord in the period of the Qing dynasty.

The study of family history is a popular topic in Wei-Jin and Southern-Northern Dynasties. As we know, those people become a big family according to their extension of “culture” and help during the family. So that they maintain family at chaos. Because more Epitaph is discovered and different opinions are mentioned recently, let the research of family history have a lot of achievement. The He family in LuJiang QianXian廬江灊縣is one of the important families in Wei-Jin and Southern Dynasties. The first important man is He Zhen何楨 in Wei-Jin Dynasties.Though he isn’t upper class in all families ,he got emperor’s trust by his ability and marriage with big families. For example He Chong何充in East- Jin Dynasties, and he is an important mediator during Yu 庾氏and Wang王氏. Hes Hang Zhi何尚之and He yan何偃have great influence in Liu-Song Dynasties. He Jing Rong 何敬容 in Liang Dynasties has superior administration ability. As a result of those deeds, the family have leading position in Wei-Jin and Southern Dynasties ,Especially on the powerunder low-ranking people after Liu-Song Dynasties. Except for emperor’s trust, the culture of family are rich. For example, the ceremony discussion of He Qi何琦in East-Jin Dynasties, and He Tong Zhi 何佟之in Liang Dynasties. And they interested in Buddhism, such as Eight Precept八關齋,donate house to the monk, interaction between the monk. No matter what ceremony or Buddhism, not only the culture of family extension but also one of the important interaction way between people. Of course, some family people are withdrawing from society and live in solitude,as He Yin何胤,He Qiu何求,He Dian何點. The whole He family appear image what include Buddhism,Confucianism and Neo-Daoism.They have an important position in Wei-Jin and Southern Dynasties. After Hou-Jing Riot侯景之亂,the family lost their energy. So that He Zhi Yuan何之元 in Chen Dynasties,he has a vagrant life.He write Liang Dian梁典to express his feeling of the present. This is tragedy of the time. The family can not take responsibility themselves. Therefore,I hope for depicting the development of LuJiang QianXian He family, suppling the research of family in Southern Dynasties with opinion .I am twenty-four generations in Kinmen LuJiang He family, and I can trace to my family source for myself too.

Using basic monitoring data, this study utilizes CFD simulation methods to evaluate the microcosmic environments of settlements, with a goal of attaining preventive preservation of settlements. Study results show that humidity is of crucial importance to settlement preservation, and good open-air ventilation is an effective means to control the humidity. In addition, surroundings have a significant influence upon settlement preservation. Currently, the laws and regulations concerning settlement preservation are still insufficient. Therefore, the following suggestions are recommended: 1) settlement preservation should take surroundings and residents into consideration from the perspective of preventive preservation; 2) modern buildings, buildings that do not meet regulations, and plants within settlements should be regularized; 3) environmental simulation and evaluation should be conducted prior to the construction of new buildings.

This thesis is to study the Jin-shi Degree-Holders with official family background in Ming Dynasty, with emphasis on the definitions, origins, composition patterns and relevant provisions. The purpose of distinguishing the official familyl background from the military family background is to investigate the relationships and differences between the two family statuses, as well as to learn about the actual situation of official hereditary system through the case study of the examples derived from the data of examining records and collected literary works . The final chapter also introduced the educational channels for Jin-shi degree-holders, and thus demonstrated their special status in the civil service examination of the Ming Dynasty by way of analysizing what kind of education they had received and what advantages they had taken. The historical materials were mainly based on the Examination Records of Jin-shi Degree-Holders in Tianyi Attic (天一閣) with a main advantage of being first-hand historical materials officially edited in which the integrity and credibility are far beyond the traditional materials previously compiled by scholars, such as Li Won Zou’s (李周望) "The Initial Collection of National Entrance Monument almanac” 《國朝歷科題名碑錄初集》, Zhang Zhaorui’s(張朝瑞) " "Research on candidates in the highest imperial examinations of the Ming Dynasty," 《皇明貢舉考》and Yui Schan’s(俞憲)“Research on the Admission of Imperial Scholars of the Ming Dynasty"《皇明進士登科考》. In addition, as the Examination Records of Jin-shi Degree-Holders in Tianyi Attic (天一閣) has been just publicly opened in 2007, there should had never been used by any study published earlier than that date. The writer believes that the new information employed in this preliminary study will be greatly helpful for any research on civil service examination in Ming Dynasty and certainly be expected to attract more valuable studies in the future.

From 17th century, a lot of people immigrated into Taiwan. Different languages, customs and habits, religions and cultures of southern part of Fujian province and Guangdong province of China made diversified response on styles of villages which formed rich and diverse characteristics of settlement in Taiwan. With rapid industrialization and economic development in 20th century, due to over development of dragging relation between urban area and rural area, lines of space, traditional ceremony and collective memory in rural settlement were destroyed and disappeared. Therefore, this study framed a mode for analyzing collective memory of rural settlement to eliminate anticipated and experienced description perspective and investigate collective memory of rural settlement from life area including memory of historical event, symbol, space form, public space and ceremony. Qualitative research method was adopted to conduct data collection (secondary data collection, participation in observation and qualitative interview and questionnaire) and five elements of constructing collective memory (controller/controlled, ceremony/activity, media/record, space/place, time/process) were regarded as the basis of analysis and discussion. The selected case was traditional rural settlement with nearly 300 years history---Lutaoyang Jiang Family Settlement which was one of the traditional ancestral rural houses in large scale in Taiwan. The whole settlement was constructed with a lot of geomantic concepts. Ancestors of Jiang Family sailed across the sea to develop uncultivated land in Taiwan in 1721. The four brothers did not divide their houses and land during over 10 years and established “Lutaoyang Jiang Family Enterprise” (Sacrificial offering public property) 100 years ago to manage ancestral land and properties together. Due to the rule that newly built houses could not be higher than ancestral hall, the houses could reserve the traditional style. Various works of rural house in Taiwan were preserved in the settlement, including earth chiseled wall, weaved mud wall, red brick wall, washed stones wall. Traditional ceremonies and activities including Song-Chiang Parade and Public Dinner were also developed. Result of this study was concluded in collective memory of rural settlement. “Ancestor scores, Ancestor ancestral hall and Sacrificial offering public property” were contributive to development of village history and preservation of structures. “Ancestor scores” could be used to establish the object of preserving collective memory by the settlement. “Sacrificial offering public property” acted as the important role of preserving gathering styles of settlement and gathering centripetal force of family members during the process of scrupulously abiding by and inheriting ancestral morals. Preserving and gathering of collective memory of settlement could be conducted through “Sacrificial offering public property” so as to ensure the authenticity and efficiency. However, traditional culture and ceremony in settlement were important elements for inheriting and preserving collective memory in rural settlement. Therefore, the system of “Sacrificial offering public property” should be reinforced to strengthen collective memory in rural settlement and promoting feelings of belongingness and identification. Above mentioned results could help to make clear the important direction of future development of Jiang Family Settlement and the essential element for gathering centripetal force of family members. Due to deficiency of time and manpower, it is suggested the following research the direction must consider demand of and the overall settlement landscape, the patriarchal clan the rural inhabitant preservation for the rural settlement realizes unifies the citizen to realize, develops preservation, the utilization "male the single-character surname settlement public" the principle, carries out the citizen consciousness and the public affairs participation, the affiliation by these subjects discussions and the research, anticipated can be helpful preservation to the Taiwan rural settlement.

Ba Jin is considered to be the outstanding master of the 20th century’s Chinese literature, he wrote a lot of novels, short-stories, etc., and translated many foreign literary works into Chinese. Many foreign writers have influenced Ba Jin''s writings, but Russian writers’ influence on him was the deepest. Ba Jin demonstrated big interest in Russian history and literature, especially he paid much attention to Turgenev, a Russian novel and short-story writer, whose stories describe Russian society and politics. There are many common aspects in Ba Jin’s and Turgenev''s novels because Ba Jin liked Russian literature, he read and translated a lot of Turgenev''s writings. Their lives are alike, social backgrounds of China and Russia are also similar. They both described the subjects and characters in the same way with the identical writing skills. Due to different world views, ages, and cultures the authors lived in, there are also many differences in their novels too. The novel named Family is considered to be Ba Jin''s most representative work. As for Turgenev, the most representative one is Fathers and Sons. Ba Jin read and translated this book. Since the economy of the products rise from the mid-Ming, groups of merchants have started to first integrate with a form of business group though every field around the world, and also with a form of business stages in the society classes. Discussion about merchants, their capital, and business organizations, such as business groups and halls, academics have already had rich study results. Merchants’ classes, their awareness, and interactions between scholars and businessmen are concerned by many scholars as well. Especially the interactions and changes of the two identities between scholars and businessmen, which involve in society culture, make everyone wonder. Moreover, changes between scholars and businessmen are not that scholars are going to abandon the identity of academics, and devote into business for development. Yet they are interactions between both, that is, some scholars who fail the imperial examination may choose to get into business; meanwhile, businessmen tend to turn economy capital into culture capital, or try to gain a official position by donating. Even some may get themselves or grow their children to get promoted into academic career. Or pursue taste of luxury to model the cultural life of scholars. From scholars to merchants or from merchants to scholars, it seems to be very different, but in fact it is the same. It is even an important strategy of running a family at many times. The development of a family is that the first generation starts a business, and then the second is going to conserve and expand, and then finally the third will turn into business scholars so that they can stead their families’ development by their fame. Or everyone in the family is going to take part in different field. Some may do something commercial; others may take an imperial examination. Whatever the family cooperate with is a way to mutual aid. The typical epitome of this strategy is Wang Dao Kun and Wang’s family. This study is based on Wang Dao Kun and his relatives, investigating the third generation of Wang’s family, except choosing to work in academic, actively get into Jiang Nan cultural community to increase the fame in Shihlin, and then turn into the identity of merchants to lead the development of Huizhou culture.

Abstract Student ID: M9975001 Title of Thesis: The Impacts of Hakka Clan on Local Development- A Case Study of The Chung Family of Jiang Nan in Hou-dui Neipu. Total Pages: 107 National Pingtung University of Science and Technology Graduate Institute of Hakka Cultural Industry Date of Graduation: January, 2014 Degree Conferred: Master Name of Student: Tseng, Mei-Fang. Advisor: Lee, Liang-Shwu Abstract In recent years, the importance of the ethnic "Hakka" has loomed large in people's mind because of the rise of ethnic awareness in Taiwan. I was born and raised in a Hakka village, Neipu, in Pingtung county. I have had a keen interest in local culture and history. Many families have made significant contributions to the cultural, educational and economic development in their communities. I choose the Chung family for this research for two reasons. First, among the previous township mayors, the "Chung" has occupied a high percentage. Second, the Chung clan has had a long association with some of the most important historical landmarks of Neipu, such as Changli Temple, Mazu Temple, and the Chung family temple. There are other families who have made impacts to Neipu. But due to research constraints, this research is limited to the Chung family of Jian-Nan clan of Houdui Neipu. This research explores the impacts and contributions of the ethnic Hakka to the social, cultural and economic development in Neipu village. The research uses the methods of observation, literature analysis and interviews with village elders, the Chung's descendants and relatives, the writer attempts to investigate the Chung's early settlement in the area, the growth and expansion of the family, and their involvement and participation in local business and public affairs. Specifically, this research addresses questions such as: How does the ethnic Hakka establish their foundation for family and business? How does the Hakka ideology affect local cultural and economic development? To what extent does their participation in business development and public affairs contribute to the growth and development of the local community? I hope that it could connect the young and old generations via this study. Thus they may gain a better understanding of the ethnic Hakka's trail-blazing footsteps through participate in the study. Perhaps it is possible to clarify some fuzzy issues. As we strive to develop the culture, business and economy in our communities, we must understand that the entire society benefits from an increased awareness and appreciation of the Liudui Hakka history and culture. Historiography faced new challenges and scrutiny when both social trends and cultural development underwent drastic transformation toward the second half of the Twentieth Century. Those who believed in postmodernism questioned the objectivity, rationality and realism in historiography, and the practical value of historiography came under attack. Facing the new challenge, historians have explored the possibility of expanding beyond its disciplinary boundary. It is the purpose of this thesis to investigate the practical and theoretical feasibility of interdisciplinary merging between historiography and electronic games. The current interdisciplinary cooperation between historiography and electronic games falls under the broad category termed “Historiophoty”. However, many previous attempts of interdisciplinary cooperation between history and novel, theater, cinema, and televised dramas have been controversial. The merge of historiography and electronic games seems only natural when the demand for historiography to expand its disciplinary boundary coincides with the revival of narrative history. Some academically trained professionals have good skills to tell stories, and narrative history begins to have appeal to the public. The time seems ripe for the merging of historiography and electronic games. Disseminating historical knowledge is not the sole goal of teachers of history. By teaching historical methodology and analytical examination of historical events, the teachers also hope for students to achieve the ability and skills to make better “life options”. Under these premises, this thesis modifies traditional historical simulation and presents a historical game with “virtual environment simulation.” Electronic game players, through different choices at critical turning points in history, would broaden their view and understanding of various possibilities of historical events. This thesis explores the theoretical key elements of the interdisciplinary interaction between historiography and electronic games, and at the same time, discusses the possible problems. By providing a prototype of a historical virtual environment simulation game, this paper describes the rationale behind the design of the game, examines its effects on historiography, and discusses the difficulties that would emerge. The proposed game as an example is The Encounters of an Aristocratic Family of the Wei Jin Period. In this game, many plausible alternatives to actual historical events are available for players to select as it progresses. Facing the various options presented to them, the players put themselves in the historical environment and empathize with the emotional and intellectual condition of the historical figures. They may be able to gain historical knowledge under the guise of entertainment. Through the game, the players may identify causes and effects of historical events and the significant impact of historical figures. Consequently, the players may acquire the ability and wisdom for the understanding of men and events in our time.
