Abstract:
Duck conservation strategy based on genetic characteristics has been undertaken to preserve indigenous breeds and produce high quality offspring. In addition, the genetic characteristic analysis provides further information for studying avian influenza viruses. The aim of this research was to study the genetic characterisation of indigenous Central Javanese duck in Indonesia using microsatellite markers. Microsatellite or simple sequence repeats (SSR) or short tandem repeats (STR) of various breeds of Central Javanese duck were analysed on 35 local ducks which consisted of seven variants of Javanese ducks in Central Java. Ten pairs of duck microsatellite primers were used to amplify the DNA from feathers. Nine out of 10 microsatellite loci (90%) demonstrated polymorphic patterns containing 50 alleles. The number of alelles varied from two to 10 alleles at various polymorphic microsatellite loci with an average of 5.56 alelles per locus. From the study, CAUD013 locus was determined as the highest heterozygosity with 0.882 score while CAUD030 locus was the lowest one with 0.034 score.Similarly, CAUD030 locus had the lowest PIC score (0.30) whereas the CAUD013 locus had the highest PIC value (0.869). Hence, it was showed that microsatellite markers were highly polymorphic in several loci for the Central Javanese duck and may be useful for genetic description of other native duck in terms of species conservation.

Abstract:
Root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) are an important worldwide pest of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.). Molecular markers linked to the Javanese root-knot nematode (M. javanica) resistance gene mj in cucumber may aid marker assisted selection. One-hundred AFLP (EcoRI-MseI) and 112 SRAP were used to screen resistant and susceptible parents for polymorphisms to develop molecular markers linked to the mj gene. Of the 100 AFLP primers, 92 produced bands and two yielded candidate markers (E-ATT/M-CAA and E-AAC/M-CTG). These two bands were cut off from polyacrylamide gel, cloned and sequenced. Primers designed from the sequences did not yield polymorphic bands between the parents. In addition, the sequences did not contain any restriction site or indel to be used to convert them to CAPS or SCAR markers. The two sequences obtained from polymorphic AFLP markers were used primarily to design D1F, D1R, D17F and D17R primers. SRAP forward and reverse primers were used in combination with these four specific primers to search for polymorphisms between parents. Of the 112 primer combinations 11 yielded polymorphisms between parents. MapMaker Exp 3.0 software was used to analyze the 11 markers. Two markers were identified that flanked the mj gene at distance of 16.3 and 19.3 cM. The results indicated that these markers should be useful to develop molecular markers flanking the mj gene.

Abstract:
Abstract Endophytes from medicinal plants have been demonstrated to produce bioactive chemicals with antibacterial capabilities. Previous research found many endophytes in Javanese ginseng roots. Identifying and comprehending the benefits of endophyte microorganisms is critical for boosting plant growth and defense. The aim of this study was to identify endophytic microbes from Javanese ginseng with antifungal activity. In this present study, two isolates the GJ-9 and FN-1, were analyzed using NL1/NL4 and ITS1/4 primers. The amplification and sequencing of the ITS and the D1-D2 LSU rRNA gene were performed. The D1-D2 LSU rRNA sequence analysis results showed that GJ-9 has similarities with Candida Spencermartinsiae with 99.82% percentage identity, while FN-1 has been identified as Aspergillus flavus according to the ITS sequence analysis result with 99.83% percentage identity. Antagonistic assays showed both isolates displayed considerable antagonistic ability against Rhizopus stolonifera, Pythium sp., Botrytis sp., and Fusarium sp, with overall inhibition rate were over 50%. The Aspergillus flavus showed the better ability to inhibit the growth of Phytium sp. (74.90 %) and Rhizopus stolonifera (60 %), while the Candida Spencermartinsiae is better for controlling Botrytis sp. (55.68%) and Fusarium sp. (60.39 %). The result suggests the endophyte from Javanese ginseng can be used as an agent for controlling various plant diseases; furthermore, it could lead to a reduction of agrochemical inputs.

The Asmarakandhi, which is a Javanese translation of an Arabic book entitled Bayān ‘Aqīdat al-Uṣūl by Abū’l Laith Naṣr b. Muḥammad al-Samarqandī (d. 373/983), is to be discussed in this study. Abū’l Laith’s text belongs to the earliest theological primers in Java, possibly first introduced on Java’s North Coast by Chinese merchants from the Ḥanafī legal school. For many centuries, Asmarakandhi was an authoritative source for new students of Islam before it fell into general disuse during the course of the twentieth century. Contrary to common belief, Abū’l Laith’s text is not as simple as it seems, containing several controversial issues.

Background and Aim: Java Island is one of the islands in Indonesia which has local sheep breeds with specific characteristics and native development geography in certain regions. This study aimed to determine the genetic profiles and maternal origin of six local sheep breeds on Java Island. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted by identifying the profiles of complete mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) displacement loop (D-loop) region sequences on a total of 22 individual in six local sheep breeds on Java Island, including Javanese thin-tailed (JTT), Javanese Fat-Tailed (JFT), Batur (BTR), Wonosobo (WSB), Garut (GRT), and Priangan (PRG) sheep. The D-loop region was amplified using specific primers, and the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed. The PCR products were purified and sequenced. Results: The mtDNA D-loop analysis identified 21 haplotypes in the analyzed 22 animals with 123 polymorphic sites (V) consisting of 60 singleton variable sites (S) and 63 parsimony informative sites (P). Within all breeds tested, the haplotype diversity, the average number of pairwise differences (K), and nucleotide diversity (Pi) were 0.99567, 25.36364, and 0.02153, respectively. The genetic distance (D) within groups and between groups was 0.001-0.006 and 0.004-0.036, respectively. The phylogeny resulted in the presence of two haplogroups (Hap), which are 5 Hap A and 16 Hap B. All JTT, JFT, BTR, and WSB breeds were in the same cluster in Hap B, whereas GRT and PRG breeds were in clusters in both Hap A and Hap B. Conclusion: The high genetic diversity in six local sheep breeds on Java Island suggests that they originated from different genetic sources. JTT sheep have closer genetic relationships to JFT, BTR, and WSB sheep, and they are close to European sheep, whereas GRT sheep have closer genetic relationships to PRG sheep. Both are closer to Asian sheep than to European sheep.

Abstract:
The musicological study of the Bojana Agung song examines the inculturation song as a faith reflection that lives and develops in the context of Javanese culture. Combining textual research methods and literature studies, this paper describes (1) How can the Javanese inculturation style in the Bojana Agung be a contextual reflection of the faith experience in the Eucharist?; and (2) How can the encounter between the Gospel and Javanese culture in the Bojana Agung's inculturation process encourage the faith growth in being more participative and transformative? Using the music score from Kidung Adi number 242 as the primary data, this research shows that Bojana Agung uses a pelog nem pentatonic scale with a binary song form. Part A's unison melody depicts the Last Supper contemplation; meanwhile, part B's two and four voices composition creates a livelier Church's response to this glorious passage. Diversity, togetherness, cooperation, humility, and wisdom are Javanese's noble values that are inculturated in this song. The encounter between the Gospel and the local is the essence of the inculturation process. Through it, the Church is more active, creative, and inclusive in responding to the fullness of Christ's incarnation.

A qualitative research that explained the linguistic phenomena in Kendal Regency, Central Java. The data sources were divided into two: primary and secondary. The primary data resource was a video recording of Pambiwara speeches in Javanese weddings, while the secondary data was in the form of library documentation and Javanese wedding. The purposes of this research were: (1) to describe the changes in language use of Javanese wedding in preserving Kawi language in Kendal, Central Java, (2) to describe the facts of Kawi Language use in Javanese wedding by Pambiwara, and (3) to observe changes and modifications in the language use of Javanese wedding for the maintenance of the Kawi language of Pambiwara. The Pambiwara produced 2000-3000 vocabulary words. Based on the average number of words issued by the Pambiwara in a Javanese wedding ceremony, the percentage occurrences of the Kawi language vocabulary also varied. It could also be seen that there were changes and modifications of the order of Javanese marriages into a more concise and simpler order used by Pambiwara to use Prasaja Javanese which belonged to simple and easy to understand Javanese language. Kerajaan-kerajaan masa Jawa Kuno dikenal sebagai negara agraris. Meskipun demikian tidak menjadikan kerajaan-kerajaan tersebut hanya bergerak di bidang pertanian saja, tetapi juga di bidang kemaritiman. Informasi yang menjelaskan kehidupan dan aktivitas kemaritiman pada masa Jawa Kuno didapatkan dari data arkeologis dan tekstual berupa prasasti, berita asing, dan naskah. Data tekstual yang dipakai sebagai sumber, umumnya dibagi ke dalam sumber primer dan sekunder. Sumber primer dianggap sebagai data yang lebih akurat dibandingkan dengan sumber sekunder, karena merupakan dokumen penting dan ditulis pada masanya. Data tekstual yang dianggap sebagai sumber primer adalah prasasti dan berita asing (tambo Dinasti Cina dan berita dari orang Eropa terutama Portugis), sedangkan yang dianggap sumber sekunder adalah naskah terutama karya sastra. Tujuan dari penulisan ini adalah mengungkapkan berbagai hal terkait aktivitas kemaritiman pada masa Jawa Kuno, terutama yang digambarkan dalam karya-karya sastra. Ternyata dalam karya sastra dari masa Kaḍiri-Majapahit banyak menuliskan tentang hal-hal yang berhubungan dengan kemaritiman, baik jenis perahu, perahu karam, bajak laut, maupun aktivitas masyarakat pesisir. Metode yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif analisis dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Hasil dari kajian ini memperlihatkan bahwa karya-karya sastra meskipun dianggap sebagai data sekunder, namun dari tulisan karya sastra terdapat kebenaran data yang tidak didapatkan dalam data primer. The kingdoms of the Old Javanese period were known as agrarian. However, this does not make these kingdoms only engaged in agriculture but also the maritime sector. Much information that contains maritime culture and activities during the Old Javanese period was acquired from various archaeological and textual data such as ancient inscriptions, foreign records, and texts. Textual data used as sources segmented into primary and secondary sources. Primary sources are considered more accurate than secondary sources because the primary sources record many events written at that time. Textual data that are considered primary sources are ancient inscriptions and foreign evidence such as the Chinese Dynasty tambo and European records, mostly Portuguese. Meanwhile, secondary sources such as ancient manuscripts, mainly ancient literary texts. This study aims to reveal various affairs related to maritime activities in the Old Javanese period, especially those expressed and portrayed in ancient literature. By the initial study, ancient literature from the Kaḍiri-Majapahit period contains many things related to maritime culture, both types of watercraft, shipwrecks, pirates, and the activities of the people who lived in the seacoast environment. The method used in this study is descriptive analysis with a qualitative approach. This study shows not much description of the maritime culture in Old Javanese inscriptions as the primary sources. However, it figures prominently in literary texts that contained many interesting facts. Historical information about maritime affairs in the Old Javanese period can be interpreted in more detail with supplementary information from literary texts as secondary sources.

<p><em>This reseach aims to describe the acculturation of the Javanese traditional culture wich name is “Temu Manten. This is the cultural root of the Javanese people that has occurred in all parts of Sumatra, especially South Sumatra. Researcher used qualitative research, it is descriptive type by Schutz's phenomenological theory research approach. The researcher describes a symptom, fact, event and problem. The researcher used two primary data sources (observations and interviews) and secondary (the results of research, books and other sources as other data sources). The researcher took purposive sampling to determine the informants. Analytical descriptive is used by researcher to describe their findings. As the results of this study found that the acculturation of the Javanese traditional culture which called as “Temu Manten” does not only occur in South Sumatra, but has occurred in various regions on the island of Sumatra. The factors that influenced the acculturation of this culture are the existence of transmigration, migration, inter-ethnic marriage, level of education, modernization and globalization. However, cultural acculturation in Indonesia got rich in culture that can be preserved to remain and known by next generations of Indonesia.</em></p>

<em>This study aims to analyze the understanding the use of Javanese language "krama inggil" of preservice teachers in primary teacher education programs. This research is a descriptive study of 84 research subjects. The instruments used were description test sheets, questionnaire sheets, and interview sheets. The data analysis technique uses descriptive qualitative. The results of the analysis show that: 1) The average value of understanding the use of Javanese language "krama inggil" was 78; 2) students who are able to communicate using good manners and apply in daily life as much as 38.61%; 3) Some of the difficulties factors of students using Javanese language "krama inggil" include not being accustomed from childhood, parents do not teach Javanese language "krama inggil", preferring to use Indonesian, lacking the motivation to use Javanese language "krama inggil" because it is difficult to pronounce.</em>

Abstract:
This study analyzed characters of Preman, an anthology of short story written by an outstdanding Javanese author, Tiwiek SA and its implication to teaching Javanese for secondary school students. The analyses focused on characterization, theme and title of the short story pertaining. Structural anaysis was used in this study as research design. Primary data of this study were 6 text of Javanese short story written in anthology entitled Preman. Secondary data include result of interview to the author. The study revealed that characters reflected Javanese society. Themes of the shortstory attracted the readers to read the contents as the interesting issues. The titles of the short story implicated that indigenous Javanese native speakers can improve and maintain Javanese culture and sociolinguistics. Accordingly, the short story contributes substantial effects on teaching Javanese for secondary school students from which teaching materials and authentic data are derived.

Perempuan Jawa Islam masih dinilai tidak memiliki hak berbicara di era prakemerdekaan Indonesia. Hal tersebut dikarenakan mereka tidak memiliki modal kultural, kapital, dan bahkan modal teologi. Penelitian ini mengkaji tokoh Siti Walidah sebagai perempuan Jawa Islam yang dinarasikan oleh pengarang drama sebagai tokoh yang menyuarakan identitas perempuan Jawa Islam. Penelitian ini menggunakan sumber data primer berupa naskah drama Nyai Ahmad Dahlan (2017) dengan metode analisis dekonstruksi dari Spivak mengenai subaltern. Teknik analisisnya adalah dengan mencermati narasi suara subaltern perempuan Jawa Islam oleh pengarang, kemudian narasi tersebut ditunda pemaknaannya. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa narasi Siti Walidah untuk mengangkat suara subaltern perempuan Jawa Islam terjebak pada ideologi kolonialisme. Secara kolonialisme, perempuan Jawa Islam secara keseluruhan menjadi komoditas Siti Walidah untuk membangun narasinya.[The Deconstruction of Siti Walidah's Subaltern Narration in DyahKalsitorini's Drama Script of Nyai AhmadDahlan (2017):Gayatri Spivak's Subaltern Approach] Islamic Javanese women were still deemed not to have the right to speak in Indonesia's pre-independence era. That was because they did not have cultural capital, capital, and theological capital. This research examines Siti Walidah as an Islamic Javanese woman narrated by a drama author as a character voicing the identity of an Islamic Javanese woman. This research used drama script of Nyai Ahmad Dahlan (2017) as the primary data with a deconstruction analysis method from Spivak on subaltern. The analysis technique was done by examining the subaltern voice narration of Islamic Javanese woman by the author which was then postponed the meaning of the narration. This research found that the narration of Siti Walidah to raise the subaltern voice of Islamic Javanese women who trapped in the patriarchal hegemony and colonialism. In colonialism, Islamic Javanese women as a whole became a commodity of Siti Walidah to build her narration.Keywords: subaltern; nationalis, political identity; Islam

This research aims to determine the various values of Islamic guidance and counseling in Javanese culture, the implementation of Islamic guidance and counseling values in Javanese culture, and the relevance of Islamic guidance and counseling in Javanese culture. This is because a counselor cannot choose clients to carry out the counseling process. Each client has a different cultural background, one of which is Javanese culture. This study is qualitative research with a literature study approach with two types of data. Primary data was obtained through literature such as the Al-Qur'an, books on Islamic guidance and counseling, and Javanese culture. Secondary data was obtained through journals and information sources from the internet which contain values related to Islamic counseling guidance and Javanese culture. The results of this research are the values of Islamic guidance and counseling in Javanese culture, namely the belief in making choices through Islamic teachings and Javanese culture that have been passed down from generation to generation. Culture can influence the success of counseling because it can be seen in how clients are handled. The implementation of Islamic guidance and counseling in Javanese culture varies, for example, friendly greetings, greetings, and politeness.

Abstract:
The rise of a pan-Indonesian national identity and the global significance of English have weakened heritage languages in Indonesia’s various ethnolinguistic communities. Focusing on the case of Javanese, the largest ethnic group, this study examines the role of the HL as an ethnic marker and its interplay with factors such as ethnic self-identification, proficiency, and usage frequency. The data were collected via parental surveys of 183 primary school children in East Java. The findings indicate that the Javanese language is still highly valued as ethnic marker and that Javanese people view its maintenance as central to their identity construction. However, inconsistencies are identified between attitudes and practices, with use of Javanese as a home language decreasing, and children’s production showing extensive influence from Indonesian. Taken together, positive attitudes regarding the Javanese as identity marker and the apparent ethnolinguistic vitality of Javanese is not necessarily translated into intergenerational transmission.

Abstract:
Javanese is one of the regional languages with a relatively large number of speakers, around 68 million. This significant number of speakers is essential for the Javanese language to survive. Even so, the popularity of the Javanese language tends to decrease, especially among young people. This decline is influenced by various factors. One of them is that young families no longer introduce Javanese as the primary means of communication within the family. This study is interested in identifying the language attitudes of parents in Javanese families who are bilingual towards Indonesian, English, and Javanese. Furthermore, this study aims to analyze how the language policy is implemented in the family. This study combines quantitative and qualitative approaches using data collection techniques through questionnaires, interviews, and participatory observation. Data analysis shows that parents have positive language attitudes towards Indonesian and English. However, their language attitude towards Javanese is not as positive as Indonesian and English. This language attitude is reflected in the implementation of language policies in families where parents prefer to apply mixed language policies.

The reduced ability of children and young people to speak Javanese has motivated researchers to conduct research on the shift in Javanese language. The data in this study are primary data. Respondents were selected by purposive sampling technique. The data were processed using the SPSS program and then analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The theory used to discuss the problems in this study is the theory of language shift. The results of this study indicate that in the DIY coastal area there is a shift in the use of Javanese. In the past, Javanese was used to communicate in the family and in daily conversations with fellow Javanese people, now some of its speakers have switched to using Indonesian. In fact, some parents use Indonesian as a mother tongue to their children. Speakers of children and adolescents tend to be less able to speak Javanese well, both ngoko and krama. Adult speakers tend to speak Javanese, both ngoko and krama. However, the mastery tends not to be as good as older speakers. The vitality of the Javanese language in the DIY coastal area based on the calculation of the indicator index is 0.73. The index value indicates that Javanese in the DIY coastal area is in the index number 0.61-0.80 or is in a stable but threatened position.

Aliran mistik kejawen adalah manifestasi dari agama Jawa, yang merupakan akumulasi praktik religi masyarakat Jawa dengan pengaruh sinkretik dari agama Hindu, Budha, dan Islam. Aliran mistik islam adalah ajaran tasawuf yang berasal dari nilai-nilai Islam normatif yang bersumber dari Al-Qur’an dan hadis. Kedua aliran mistik ini memiliki titik temu dari segi tujuan, yaitu menjadikan penganutnya sebagai manusia yang sempurna melalui perantara penyatuan diri seorang makhluk dengan Sang Pencipta. Namun, kedua aliran mistik ini juga memiliki perbedaan dari segi metode, konsep, dan praktik. Abstract The encounter between the Javanese mystical stream and the Islamic mystical stream is an interesting phenomenon to study. The Javanese mystical stream is a manifestation of the Javanese religion, which is an accumulation of religious practices of the Javanese people with syncretic influences from Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam. The Islamic mystical stream is a teaching of Sufism that originates from the normative values of Islam that are sourced from the Qur’an and hadith. Both mystical streams have a common point in terms of their goal, which is to make their adherents as perfect human beings through the intermediary of unifying oneself with the Creator. However, both mystical streams also have differences in terms of their methods, concepts, and practices. This study aims to examine analytically and comparatively the similarities and differences between the Javanese mystical stream and the Islamic mystical stream in Javanese society. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach. Data are obtained from primary and secondary sources that are relevant to the research topic.

This paper is an attempt to comprehend the epistemology of the Javanese worldview when it is used as the primary argument for indigenous psychology. The aim is to explore epistemology in Javanese psychology as a cultural understanding framework for the concept of knowledge and human experience. Javanese psychology is rooted in the rich Javanese tradition and philosophy, which have a unique way of understanding the universe and human existence in it. The method in this paper is literature research using the Wilhelm Dilthey hermeneutic method. The first step is describing the influence of positivism. The next steps are to discuss the concepts of metaphysics and epistemology in Rasa, and the reasons why indigenous psychology should be built upon the foundation of congruent philosophical thoughts. The conclusion that can be drawn is that the concept of Rasa will become the basis of the epistemological foundation of a new branch of indigenous psychology called Javanese psychology.

This study seeks to explore and analyze Javanese and Madurese speakers' use of their respective dialects in English conversation. In the framework of ethnically diverse Indonesian schools, certain Javanese and Madurese-speaker pupils may have trouble performing dialogue which is the reason why the researcher conducted this research. The data was online questionnaires then the result of the questionnaires was analyzed by quantitative method. The Javanese and Madurese students from three primary cities of Pasuruan, Lumajang, and Jember in East Java, Indonesia, were used as the focus of this study. At least 200 persons participated as questionnaire participants. The results of the data from online questionnaires show that the score gathered was 2118 for Javanese perception and 2576 for Madurese perception after that, 2118:3500 was 60% (neutral categorized). After the spread out of the questionnaires and measurements, the result shows both Javanese and Madurese respondents did not have a problem with their dialects each other

The purposes of this study are to describe (1) the background of the local wisdom as summarize in the proverbs of the Javanese community in Ex-residency of Surakarta, (2) to elaborate further reasons and specific times the people in Ex-residency of Surakarta employ the Javanese proverbs that summarize the local wisdom, and (3) explain the cultural meanings resided in the Javanese proverbs. This study employed ethnographic methods framed by the ethnolinguistic study to find the cultural meanings. Data and the data sources are categorized into primary and secondary data; the data collection method is done through the observation-participation and in-depth interview techniques; data analysis employed the ethnoscience model which underwent 12-phases of advanced research stages (of taxonomic, componential and domain analyses) to find the cultural themes; validity of the data is attested with the triangulation techniques (the triangulation of data, methods, researcher, and theory). The results encompassed (1) background of the local wisdom summarized in the Javanese proverbs expressed by the Javanese community in Ex-residency of Surakarta influenced by the cultural factors, the Javanese language, aesthetical, ethical, social, economical, political, and geographical factors; (2) the community in Ex-Surakarta expressed the Javanese proverb that summarizes local wisdom, the demands of fidelity to the culture is inevitable, media that facilitates the growth of the Javanese language, aesthetical and ethical motivations, social conditions, economical motivation, political media which show the geographical background; and (3) the cultural meaning of the Javanese proverbs which summarize the local wisdom of the community in Ex-residency of Surakarta, all of which are to show the courtesy, avoid direct confrontation, the proverbs also indicate levels of the beauty of the language use, nationalism, foster cooperation, develop the intellect.

This qualitative descriptive study aims to explore the pragmatic significance of rarely researched Javanese silly gags. The primary objective is to examine the markers and implications of these gags in daily communication, particularly focusing on their various categories. Utilizing social media fragments as the primary source, the research employs the note-taking method for listening. Subsequent steps include the identification, classification, and characterization of Javanese silly gags into five distinct categories: (1) Silly jokes for enthusiasm, (2) Silly jokes for sarcasm, (3) Silly jokes for satire, (4) Silly jokes for exasperation, and (5) Silly jokes for enigmatic humor. The equivalent analysis method is then applied, specifically using contextual equivalents through a comparative linking technique for in-depth data analysis. The analysis reveals valuable insights into the diverse functions of Javanese silly gags, showcasing their significance in daily communication. The collective memory, which was scripted in Javanese literature, indicates that pagĕblug happened in the past. However, the public does not know its information since the primary resource is indecipherable, followed by the rapid growth of science and technology. Whereas in Javanese literature, there is knowledge about tracing and handling a pagĕblug. Therefore, This study has three main objectives: (a) Examine the handling of pagĕblug in Java based on primary sources taken from Javanese textual and non-textual archives; (b) Reveal the common thread of continuity in handling pagĕblug cosmologically and physically; (c)Propose a draft of strategy for dealing with pagĕblug in the present.The research conducted in descriptive-qualitative-interpretative, utilizing philological and oral approaches. The data was compiled using blended methods consisting of literature study, source observation, manuscript reading, and interview with experts. The results indicate that Javanese literature contains knowledge of cosmological and physical handling of pagĕblug. Cosmologically, the common thread of continuity in handling pagĕblug in Javanese literature is derived from a concept of respecting human relationships with others, nature, and God. Likewise, physically, it is advised to have a clean and healthy living, even encouragement to self- quarantine for the infected people. The common thread for the continuity of pagĕblug handling potentially can be implemented by the government in formulating disease regulations amid the current Covid-19 pandemic.

This article aims to reconstruct the history of Javanese migration to Asahan during the Dutch colonial period. The migration of Javanese to Asahan was the impact of the labor demand in the massive plantation industry sector on the East Coast of Sumatra. This study uses historical research methods using primary and secondary sources. The rapid development of plantations in Asahan made entrepreneurs bring in Javanese to sustain the company. To fulfill the needs of Javanese coolies, an agency was formed that has a special task of bringing in workers from Java Island. The life of the coolies is built with various facilities such as hospitals, cleanliness, housing, public kitchens, schools, and many others. Plantation entrepreneurs issue special monetary policies that aim to narrow the space for coolies by printing “kebon money” which only applies to plantations. The Javanese who migrated to Asahan were not able to achieve the hope of living a more decent life than their hometowns in their hometowns, they were instead caught in the trap of capitalists whose labor was exploited as coolies in remote areas of the plantation.

This study aimed to analyze the test items of Javanese for junior high school in Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) using Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) literacy parameters. It was qualitative descriptive research employing content analysis methods. The instruments used were test items of PISA and Javanese reading literacy. The data collected was primary data in the forms of words, phrases, sentences, paragraphs, and discourses. The purposive sampling method was used to choose the research subjects. Data were analyzed using content analysis methods. The data collection was conducted through detailed documentation on test items of PISA reading literacy published by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and Curriculum 2013 Javanese reading test items for junior high school obtained from final examinations of four regions and one city in DIY. The semantic validity was used in this study. The results of the data analysis showed that out of 25 characteristics of PISA parameters of test items, there were only 13 (52%) characteristics a lied in test items of Javanese for junior high school in DIY, while the rest (48%) was not found in the Javanese test items. Based on these findings, it is expected that teachers can develop test items for Javanese reading literacy with higher thinking ability levels.

The Nglagena Javanese script is one of the cultural assets of the Indonesian nation that needs to be preserved. Various efforts have been made to preserve this script, one of which is using information technology as a learning medium for the Nglagena Javanese script. Information Technology allows the Javanese script to be introduced interactively to students. To support this need, one of which is the ability of information technology to classify Javanese script. Classification of Javanese script is carried out using the Backpropagation Artificial Neural Network (BANN) method. Twenty primary Javanese characters are classified as classes using the Backpropagation Artificial Neural Network (BANN) method. The stages of this research are initial processing, feature extraction, model training, and model testing. Initial processing is carried out to prepare image data so that it is ready for the feature extraction process. The feature extraction method is the Histogram Chain Code (HCC) to obtain the main characteristics of each data class or character of the Nglegena Javanese script. This study compares three research models by adjusting the ratio between the training image data and the test image so that the model that produces the highest accuracy value is produced. The model training and testing process uses 2000 image data, with the percentage distribution of training image data and test images, namely 20%, 80%, second 50%, 50%, and third 80%, 20%, resulting in different levels of accuracy. The results are to produce successive accuracy of 66%, 72%, and 88%.

Javanese culture has become unfamiliar to the millennial generation, even though character values in Javanese culture are excellent. Javanese culture is mainly introduced traditionally, one of which is the tembang macapat. The research aimed to describe character education, including planning, implementation, and evaluation in tembang macapat, which is taught in primary school, particularly in high grades, in grades four, five, and six. This research applied qualitative research with phenomenological methods. The data collection techniques used interviews, observation, and documentation. Triangulation was used to test the validity of the data. The data analysis techniques consisted of data collection, data reduction, data display, verification, and conclusion. Then it presented and concluded from the data that has been analyzed. The findings were as follows: 1) Planning for tembang macapat learning by analyzing the initial conditions of Primary School character education activities; 2) The tembang macapat learning was implemented once a week in the morning assembly and created tembang macapat poster; 3) Evaluations of tembang macapat learning instilled in students were the character of brotherhood, togetherness, affection, courtesy, respectfulness, and humility. Therefore, it concluded that the tembang macapat of gambuh, mijil, and dhandanggula can be used to strengthen primary school character education.

Culture came and was brought by the ancestors of the Indonesian nation. Hereditary inheritance from one generation to another is related to the way of outlook and life guidance of a nation. Javanese culture has a value of politeness and simplicity that is still upheld in Javanese society. However, as times are getting more advanced, the existence of these cultures is fading and disappearing. This study focuses on how the influence of alcohol on Javanese cultural values as a social pathology phenomenon in Malang City. This study used a descriptive qualitative method with primary and secondary data collection. In analyzing research problems, Emile Durkheim's anomie theory and Emile Durkheim's concept of social solidarity. The results showed that drinking-alcoholic behavior could not be separated from several factors that influence it. This behavior is inversely proportional to the existing culture. Javanese culture upholds a sense of simplicity and politeness. Kebudayaan datang dan dibawa oleh nenek moyang bangsa Indonesia. Warisan secara turun temurun dari satu generasi ke generasi yang lain berkaitan dengan cara pandangan dan tuntunan hidup suatu bangsa. Kebudayaan Jawa mempunyai nilai kesopanan dan kesederhanaan yang masih terus dijunjung tinggi dalam masyarakat Jawa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perilaku minum-minuman keras tidak dapat dapat terlepas dari beberapa faktor yang mempengaruhinya. Perilaku tersebut berbanding terbalik dengan kebudayaan yang ada. Disease prevention is almost always done with a modern approach through medical science or other public health sciences. This approach is the primary reference in mitigating the spread of the disease. In fact, in Indonesian society, there are local wisdoms in the traditions of each ethnic group in tackling the spread of disease, for example, the Javanese tradition. Javanese culture has local wisdom in dealing with pandemics passed down from generation to generation. This study attempts to answer how the mitigation pattern in Javanese culture is. Anthropologically, pandemics can be studied under health anthropology on disease. By taking the case of the Javanese people in Indonesia, this article describes local ways of preventing and overcoming disease outbreaks or mitigating disease outbreaks. The data source of this article is produced from qualitative research through interview techniques, focus group discussions, online seminars, and the study of manuscripts from magazines published in Java. The results showed that local communities, in addition to knowing the causes of disease, also developed ways to prevent and eliminate diseases, and mitigate outbreaks and pandemics. Javanese people see the mitigation of diseases physically and psychically. Physical mitigation tends to be in line with modern medical methods and the application of new normal. The mitigation of psychics is done by using mantras and songs and developing Javanese attitude of “narima ing pandum” (take it as it comes).

<p>The purpose of this article is to offer Macapat as a model of learning English-Javanese vocabulary. Macapat is a kind of poetic meter in traditional Javanese poetry and is also known as a popular culture in Javanese society. In the formal education, from elementary until high degree, macapat is used as a lesson material in the college. Related with cross-cultural studies, the use of attractive model can give more experience for language learners and language teachers. For the learner, they can get more knowledge about macapat song and vocabulary. According to Javanese teacher competence, they must have <em>mardawa basa</em>, <em>mardawa sastra</em> and <em>mardawa lagu</em>, as a primary knowledge to compose language using poetic meter and also sing macapat. The teacher can improve their language competence to create a macapat song which is composed of two different vocabulary languages. Purpose – This study aims to explore the dual role of Javanese women who engage in trade at traditional markets and their role as mothers in parenting practices. Design/methods/approach – Employing qualitative research with an ethnographic approach, this study gathered primary data from interviews with Javanese women traders at the Karangawen traditional market, who have children aged 0–8 years. Data collection methods included semi-structured interviews, observations, and documentation. This was followed by a descriptive analysis of the findings. Findings – The study identifies three main motives for Javanese women trading in traditional markets: self-actualization, economic needs, and the pursuit of independence. Additionally, the study reveals various aspects of parenting practices among Javanese women. These include practices such as bancaan weton lair, weton lair fasting, and infant massage. Research implications/limitations – The research is constrained to a descriptive analysis, focusing on a limited data set regarding the roles of Javanese women as traders in the public sphere and as mothers in the domestic sphere. Practical implications – The study highlights the dual role of rural women, who are active in both the public sphere (through trading) and the domestic sphere (through parenting). This dual engagement reflects the multifaceted nature of their daily lives. The research aimed to see a relevance of the preservation of the Javanese language in Javanese conversations that Ganjar Pranowo carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic. The resulting data was about the level in the language that included word level, phrase level, and sentence level. Also, several manners, unggah ungguh, and ethics were produced that could become examples or role models for the people of Central Java. The research applied a qualitative method. The data source was the utterances contained in the uploads of Ganjar Pranowo in the form of video recordings that included primary data in the form of utterances or parts of spoken speech from various speeches and communications from the people of Central Java with Ganjar Pranowo. The results show that preservation of the Javanese language through conversations between leaders and the community has positive implications. This means that the preservation of the Javanese language is carried out optimally in the social sphere. This activity is well recorded and uploaded on social media, Ganjar Pranowo, a figure who has high credibility. The social sphere is an important component used to preserve Javanese language, culture, and traditions.

Islamic philosophy, Sufism, Islamic jurisprudence and Javanese traditions have their views on women. Some regard women as subordinate to men, some groups position women as equal to men, and others accept women as male leaders. This study aims to analyse the views of Islamic philosophy, Sufism, Islamic jurisprudence and Javanese traditions on women. This study is a literature review using qualitative methods. The data source was taken from the literature using primary sources as the main reference. The results indicated that Islamic philosophy represented by al-Fârâbî (870-950) and Sufism by Ibn Arabi (1165-1240) placed women in an equal position with men. Nevertheless, Islamic jurisprudence studies tend to place women below men. Meanwhile, the Javanese tradition encapsulates both views. On the one hand, the Javanese tradition places women as an important part of men, but on the other hand, it places women as men's assets. However, the Javanese tradition can accept women's leadership over men. Regarding this, this study recommends that Islamic philosophy and Sufism's perspectives on women should be socialized more to strengthen a balanced view of the relationship between women and men.

This article examines the patriarchal system of Javanese society and its effect on the status of Javanese women. Certain expressions that are still commonly used in Javanese language today can be seen to imply the inferiority of women. This article argues for a re-evaluation of these expressions in the light of gender equality and social justice. The potency of this concept within Javanese culture has led to restrictions perceived as curtailing women's mobility; an example being the practice of segregation, which curbs women's freedom. Hence, this research aims to scrutinise the social significance of "Dadi Lemek Dadi Gandhek" and its relevance to contemporary times. Qualitative and interpretive methods inform this study, with Foucault's discourse theory being the theoretical framework. This study aims to describe: (1) the classification of the components of the meaning of the verb "hurt" in Javanese, (2) the component of the lexical meaning of the component meaning of the verb "to hurt" in Javanese, and (3) the semantic role of the verb "to hurt" in Javanese. The research method is descriptive qualitative, with a componential analysis approach to the meaning of the verb "hurt" in Javanese. The data used are primary and secondary data. Primary data is in the form of interviews with native Javanese speakers using the listening method with free-talk engagement techniques. The number of respondents was 10 respondents who came from the village of Taraman, Sindhuharjo, Ngaglik, Sleman, Yogyakarta. The selection of respondents was based on native Javanese speakers who have low mobility, so that their Javanese language skills are not contaminated by Indonesian or foreign languages. The secondary data is taken from various readings about verbs in Javanese and also uses a Javanese dictionary. The data collection technique was done by means of participatory observation. Based on the results of the research above, 34 verb lexemes of the hurting type were found in Javanese. Of these 34 lexemes are classified into 2 categories, namely "hurt" with physical and non-physical (verbal) targets. From the distinguishing elements, these two lexemes have different diagnostic components in their categories. In general, the components of the verb lexeme that hurt the target object are always living things, both human and animal, although the latter only occurs in a few words, such as "scarring", clawing. Another component of meaning in this type of area that functions as a differentiator between one vocabulary and another is the components of general objects and specific objects of tools and methods. Based on the type of meaning, there are 8 subcategories of the type of meaning, namely injuring by leaving a mark, pressing, throwing, pushing, stabbing, pinching, twisting, and bumping. Each lexeme has meaning within the subcategory, but differs in its additional components. Other components of meaning that often function as distinguishing characteristics are the object component (general objects, special objects), method, tool, place, time of purpose, and intentional (intentional or unintentional). The presence of the affix form is also very likely to affect the shift in meaning. Although courtly literature provides insight into the high tradition of Old Javanese Hinduism, the nature of popular Javanese religion in former times remains a topic of considerable obscurity. In his voluminous masterpiece on pre-Islamic Java, the Dutch historian Th. G. Th. Pigeaud identifies some 218 clerical estates that existed in rural east Java in the fourteenth century, speculating as to the nature of their social and religious organization. But none of these Hindu and Buddhist clerical communities survived into the modern era, and as a result we know little of their relation to popular Javanese religion. For years scholars have lamented the dearth of primary materials on popular Javanese Hinduism both during and after the fall of the last of Java's major Hindu-Buddhist courts, Majapahit. At the height of its power during the second half of the fourteenth century, Majapahit was conquered by an alliance of Islamic principalities in the early sixteenth century.

Abstract:
Javanese goat and Garut sheep hair contain α-keratin, a protein that can be broken by hydrolysis to produce simpler amino acids. Feather waste generates millions of tons of α-keratin biomass originating from animal slaughterhouses, thereby raising health concerns. The utilization of acid hydrolysis is considered to be more cost-effective compared to enzymatic hydrolysis, and it provides a broader range of amino acid cleavage sites compared to enzymes, which exhibit specific cleavage. This study aimed to isolate amino acids from Javanese goat and Garut sheep hair through acid hydrolysis. The methods included hair sample preparation, acid hydrolysis used 6 M HCL at 110°C, reflux isolation, amino acid separation based on isoelectric pH 4.9 –5.4, functional groups analysis using FTIR, and analysis of amino acid content by HPLC methods. The results showed that the yield produced after isolation on Javanese goat hair samples was 0.92% and Garut sheep hair 0.32%, respectively. The FTIR spectrum showed amino acid functional groups in both samples, including carboxyl (COOH), amine (C-N primer), (C-S disulfide), and amide I (-CONH2). Successful breakdown of α-keratin proteins into simpler amino acids was achieved for Javanese goat and Garut sheep hair. Amino acid analysis of Javanese goat hair isolates revealed the presence of aspartic acid, threonine, serine, glutamate, proline, glycine, alanine, valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine, tyrosine, phenylalanine, histidine, lysine, and arginine amino acids, respectively. The highest content was isoleucine at 0.60% w/w. In conclusion, the isolated amino acids from Javanese goat hair can be used as a halal supplement that serves as nutrition in the body.

This study aims to analyze errors in Javanese writing in the lyrics of The Satru 2 song by Denny Caknan on the Denny Caknan youtube account channel uploaded in February 2022.this study uses qualitative descriptive research methods. In this study, the data sources used came from primary and secondary data sources. The primary data source is the lyrics of the song Satru 2 by Denny Caknan on Denny Caknan's Youtube channel, while the source of the skunder data is in the form of documentation taken from various books, articles, and journals with similar discussions. In this study, it used a note-taking technique, namely by listening to Youtube by recording lyrics and errors in writing Javanese. The results of the study, it can be concluded that there was a phonological writing error in writing the lyrics of the song Satru 2 by Denny Caknan. There are five vowel words out of five sentences of incorrect writing, namely in the words wis, believe, what, trima, and work. Most javanese phonology on vowel phoneme errors that should be [a] written [o].

Dixon is one of the most influential linguists in English Language Studies that proposed the idea of semantic approach in English grammatical analysis. He divided the types of verbs into six categories, including Primary A and Primary B types; and Secondary A, Secondary B, Secondary C, and Secondary D types. In Primary B types, he mentioned “attention” verbs with all of their possible syntactic properties. The “look” subtype, which is one of the subcategories of these “attention” verbs were mentioned of not allowing the existence of that-complement in the O slot. This study was initiated to illicit an extension of Dixon’s idea regarding this syntactic property of that-complement in the O slot of “look” subtype through the analysis of Javanese language structure. Based on the findings from the Javanese language corpus on SEALang Library, there were eight out of 22 samples of verbs (around 36 percent) that Dixon mentioned in the “look” subtype having that-complement in the form of “sing”, “kang”, and “ingkang” in their O slots. In the Javanese translation, these eight verbs consisted of “mirengaken”, “madosi”, “mandeng”, “ndeleng”, “mirsani”, “nginguk”, and “mriksa”. Most of the verbs appeared in the register of ngoko lugu, as this type of language records the most common utilization by the Javanese society. The findings confirmed that Dixon’s idea regarding the disallowance of that-complement in O slot of “look” subtype verbs could not be universally applied.

The research aimed to examine the usage of the Javanese language to represent the discourse of nyumbang (donation) in the film Nyumbang produced by Montase Film Independen Yogyakarta. It focused on analyzing the discourse semantics of the Javanese dialogues, which took the style expression ala Kethoprak. The primary data are the Javanese dialogues in the film Nyumbang. At the same time, the supporting data were taken from journals, books, newspapers, websites, and supporting media (audiovisuals, interview results, and other documentation). Data analysis techniques included reduction, presentation, and verification of conclusions related to the research object. The results indicate the utilization of a strong Javanese accent, mostly found in Kethoprak's performance, to represent the problematic discourse of nyumbang. The actors who are the members of the Sanggar Kethoprak Merbabu Budaya, Magelang, speaking in Javanese with the Mataram accent, highlight the problematization of the ideology behind the discourse of nyumbang. The Mataram accent, which is the language style of Kethoprak, added with the helpless facial expressions of the actors, provides the interpretation of the raising question of the nyumbang tradition, which has been embedded in Javanese culture. Through some word choices that are exaggerated to produce a sense of helplessness, the tradition of nyumbang, formerly developed to help each other, becomes a social burden. Thus, the research finds that the film Nyumbang provides an effort to maintain the Kethoprak tradition without abandoning the characteristics of its traditional performances, which contain criticisms of tradition in modern life.

This study, conducted at SD Negeri Ciberem, aims to identify the factors contributing to the low learning interest of students and describe the teacher's efforts in fostering students' interest in the Javanese language lessons for the fourth grade at SD Negeri Ciberem. Based on the researcher's observations in the fourth-grade Javanese language classes at SD Negeri Ciberem, it was found that students displayed a low interest during learning sessions. This study employs a descriptive qualitative research method. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The study also involves three sources: teachers, students, and the parents of the students. The study results show that:(1) Factors contributing to the low interest of students in Javanese language learning are rooted in physical and psychological aspects, such as intelligence, attention, and interest. Other influencing factors include teachers, parents, and the learning environment. (2) Teachers' efforts to address students' learning interests include peer tutoring activities, ice-breaking sessions, and adopting a cooperative attitude during instruction. Most religious cosmology studies focus on the microcosm and macrocosm; however, the origin of cosmic mysticism is the eternal cosmos extensively studied in cultures and religions such as Javanese and Islam. This qualitative study conducted document reviews to obtain primary and secondary data analyzed through comparative analysis. This study aimed to examine the concept of the five eternal cosmos hierarchies of the absolute universe, lordness universe, transcendent universe, celestial universe, and terrestrial universe. The findings reinforce the concept of cosmic spirituality, divine cosmology, and wisdom of cosmology as well as theoretical and practical implications. Theoretically, the study contributes to the integration of sacred Javanese Islamic, and Western cosmologies and the clarification of the eternal and temporary cosmos in theological discussions. The findings also have practical implications in creating eco-leadership based on hasta brata values.

Abstract:
Indonesia is a developing country with many local cultures trying to continue increasing electronic transactions with e-Banking. UTAUT2 is the one of acceptance and use of the technology model. This study focuses on investigating the effect of Javanese cultural philosophy (local culture in Indonesia) on banking customer behavior in accepting and using banking transactions. This paper is supported by qualitative information, although it uses a quantitative approach. The Javanese cultural philosophy “Ojo Gumunan, Ojo Kagetan” was the main information before distributing the questionnaire as primary data. This model uses UTAUT2 and data analysis using PLS-SEM with SmartPLS. The main results reinforce the theory that the Javanese cultural philosophy “Ojo Gumunan, Ojo Kagetan” is a significant dominant factor in influencing behavior intention. The results of applying the UTAUT2 model show a variance of 86.4% for the endogenous variable behavioral intention and 72.4% for the endogenous variable use behavior to e-banking, which exceeds the value of the original model. Findings revealed that the variables of Javanese philosophy and promotion conditions have a significant effect on behavioral intentions. The facilitating condition variables, habit variables, and behavioral intentions variables on behavior using e-banking proved to affect significantly. This study aims to evaluate the model of acceptance and use of e-banking with a Javanese philosophical approach. The evaluation results show that Javanese philosophy is the main and dominant factor in the model. The contribution of this study can provide insights for practitioners and researchers that increasing non-cash banking transactions (less-cash society) through e-banking can use a local-cultural philosophical approach. Abstract:
Local wisdom stood as a cornerstone of Indonesia's cultural richness. Regrettably, this invaluable asset, particularly in the form of "translation products," was overlooked and underappreciated. Despite Indonesia boasting a substantial collection of Arabic religious texts translated into Javanese, utilizing the pegon script, these Arabic-Javanese texts demanded preservation, scholarly exploration, and development grounded in specific theoretical frameworks. This research undertook a comparative analysis of "cultural terms" within religious texts, focusing on al-Hikam aphorisms translated from Arabic (L1) into both Indonesian and Javanese (L2). The primary objective was to dissect and analyze the local wisdom and Islamic Sufism moral values embedded in al-Hikam aphorisms through translation. The study drew on translations of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences from carefully selected sources related to cultural terms, including books and various Arabic-Javanese translation dictionaries. Employing a purposive sampling method, data collection followed a meticulous process. Qualitative data analysis unfolded through four pivotal stages: (1) domain analysis, (2) taxonomy analysis, (3) componential analysis, and (4) cultural theme analysis. The findings, gleaned from lexicography study and semantic analysis of translation, revealed the existence of two translation ideologies shaping cultural terms in Arabic-Javanese religious texts: domestication ideology and foreignization ideology. This research underscored that translation products were inseparable from the ideological dimensions of foreignization and domestication. Foreignization endeavored to assimilate source language elements into the target language, while domestication integrated original components with local elements. This research contributed to a deeper understanding of how foreignization and domestication shaped the depiction of local wisdom in Arabic-Javanese religious texts.
