Abstract:
In der Revision der Gattung Rhacocarpus (Frahm 1996) wurde vermerkt, daß ein Holotypus von Rhacocarpus purpurascens im Herbar Bridel (B) nicht vorhanden ist. Der Typus stammt von der Insel Reunion (“In caespiticibus humentibus et ad saxa basaltica madida in Planitie des Chicots Insulae Borbonicae hucusque tantum lectum est. Clar. Bory St. Vincent detexit et communicavit.”) Da das Bridel- Herbar nicht vollständig ist, war anzunehmen, daß der Holotypus verschollen ist. Da auch eine Lektotypifizierung nach anderen Angaben aus dem Protolog nicht möglich schien, wurde bereits eine mögliche Neotypifizierung nach Material vom locus classicus ins Auge gefaßt und ein entsprechender Aufruf in der “Bryological Times” publiziert. Wie Dr. P. Geissler (Conservatoire et jardin botanique Genève) jedoch daraufhin mitteilte, befindet sich in Genf im Herbar Hedwig-Schwaegrichen ein Isotypus, was durch den handschriftlichen Vermerk “Ins. Bourbon misit Bridel” verifiziert ist. Der Isotypus besteht aus zwei Einzelpflanzen (mit a und b markiert) und einigen einzelnen Blättern in einer Papierkapsel. Die Pflanzen stimmen mit der heute üblichen Umschreibung der Art überein.

В.Л. Комарова РАН (LE)”. Cтатья содержит сведения о 138 типовых образцах названий 33 таксонов из семейства Boraginaceae, в основном хранящихся в секторе Сибири и Дальнего Востока России Гербария Ботанического института им. В.Л. Комарова РАН (LE), а также в коллекции О.П. Декандоля в Гербарии Ботанического сада Женевы (G-DC), Гербарии К.Л. Вильденова в коллекции Ботанического сада и Ботанического музея Берлин-Далем (B, BW), а также в Гербариях P, BM, K, M, MEL, HAL, H, TK, BR, C, S. Для каждого типового образца приведены категория, цитата оригинальной этикетки, данные протолога, принятое авторами название таксона и необходимые примечания. Всего указывается 27 лектотипов, 49 изолектотипов, 24 синтипа, 4 голотипа, 2 эпитипа, 4 изоэпитипа, 4 неотипа и 24 элемента первоначального материала. The article contains information on 138 type specimens of the names of 33 taxa from the Boraginaceae, mainly stored in the collection of the sector of Siberia and the Russian Far East of the Herbarium of the V.L. Komarov Botanical Institute RAS (LE, St. Petersburg, Russia), as well as in the collection of A.P. de Candolle in the Herbarium of the Conservatory and Botanical Garden of Geneva (Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques de la ville de Genève – G-DC, Geneva, Switzerland), Herbarium of C.L. Willdenow in the collection of the Botanical Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem (Botanischer Garten und Botanisches Museum Berlin-Dahlem, Zentraleinrichtung der Freien Universität Berlin – B, BW, Berlin, Germany), as well as in the Herbaria P, BM, K, M, MEL, HAL, H, TK, BR, C, S (scanned images of herbarium specimens are hosted on the Global Plants on JSTOR aggregator). For each type specimen, its category, original label quotation, protologue data, accepted correct name, and necessary notes are provided. A total of 27 lectotypes, 49 isolectotypes, 24 syntypes, 4 holotypes, 2 epitypes, 4 isoepitypes, 4 neotypes, and 24 original specimens are listed. The lectotypes of 21 names of species, the epitypes of 2 names of species, and the neotype of 1 name of species are designated. The categories of the types of 5 previously typified names are clarified. The surveyed type collections contain specimens of the species described by P.S. Pallas, J.G.C. Lehmann, K.F. Ledebour, A. Chamisso, N.S. Turczaninow, A.P. de Candolle (father) and Alph. de Candolle (son), K.I. Maximowicz, V.L. Komarov, M.G. Popov and other researchers of the Siberian and Far Eastern flora. The earliest collections belong to Pallas and I. Sievers.

La bibliothèque du Jardin botanique de Montréal possède des collections intéressantes en botanique, horticulture, aménagement paysager et écologie végétale. La bibliothèque a été restructurée et présente une image dynamique en fonction des multiples services qu’elle offre à ses usagers internes. Elle est ouverte au public pour consultation. Les volumes et brochures sont classés selon une classification spécifique décimale. Un répertoire spécialisé de vedettes-matière sert à l’indexation des monographies et au dépouillement des périodiques. Le processus d’informatisation des catalogues manuels a été entrepris. La médiathèque et la salle de lecture du pavillon japonais sont des centres documentaires satellites.

Histoires des noms des plantes : le Jardin médicinal d’Antoine Mizauld est une thèse en littérature et en langue françaises sous la direction de Fleur Vigneron.Cette thèse s’inscrit dans le cadre d’une convention CIFRE entre l’Entreprise Herboristerie Au temps des fées et l'équipe Imaginaire Socio-Anthropologie (ISA) de l’UMR Litt&Arts 5316 de l’Université Grenoble Alpes. Les buts de cette convention sont d’effectuer des recherches sur l’imaginaire des noms des plantes médicinales et de participer au développement de la marque Comme des tisanes, de l’Herboristerie Au Temps des fées.Dans un premier temps, nos travaux de recherche se concentrent sur l’édition du Jardin médicinal d’Antoine Mizauld, un traité de médecine du XVIe siècle expliquant les vertus des végétaux avec des histoires mythiques et des anecdotes divertissantes. Le texte établi par nos soins est suivi de glossaires mettant en avant les noms des plantes médicinales et des définitions pratiques pour mieux comprendre les propos d’Antoine Mizauld. La seconde partie est un commentaire du Jardin médicinal qui analyse la posture de l’auteur et la formation des représentations des plantes médicinales, en mettant l’accent sur l’usage des mythes et les utilisations actuelles des plantes dans l’industrie du bien-être. La dernière partie propose une analyse de sept plantes médicinales (appellations françaises, étymologie, usages et mythes), afin d’étudier leurs traits archétypiques et d’établir leur histoire culturelle.Grâce à des approches synchronique et diachronique, cette thèse présente une théorie sur la formation des représentations des plantes médicinales dans la langue française. Elle permet aussi de mettre en place un protocole innovant de création de biens ou de services, en usant des recherches en lettres et des méthodes de l’imaginaire
Stories of Plant Names : the Jardin médicinal by Antoine Mizauld is a PhD thesis in French literature and French language supervised by Fleur Vigneron.This thesis is part of a CIFRE agreement between the company Herboristerie Au temps des fées and the Imaginary Socio-Anthropology (ISA) component of the CNRS 5316 Litt&Arts research unit at the Grenoble Alpes University. The aims of this agreement are to carry out researches on the images of names of medicinal plants and to participate in the development of the brand Comme des tisanes, by Herboristerie Au Temps des fées.At first, our research works focus on the edition of the Jardin medicinal by Antoine Mizauld, a sixteenth century medical treatise explaining the properties of plants with mythical stories and entertaining anecdotes. These works are followed by glossaries pointing out the names of medicinal plants and practical definitions to better understand Antoine Mizauld's words. The second part is a commentary on the Jardin medicinal which analyses the position of the author and the formation of images of medicinal plants emphasizing the use of myths and current uses of plants in the wellness industry. The last part presents an analysis of seven medicinal plants (french designations, etymology, uses and myths), in order to study their archetypical traits and to establish their cultural history.Thanks to synchronic and diachronic approaches, this thesis presents a theory about the formation of images of medicinal plants in the French language. It also allows to implement an innovative protocol to create goods or services, by using researches in literature and methods of studying images

Créé à la fin du XVIIIe siècle par la East India Company, le jardin botanique de Calcutta devint un centre d’acclimatation et de classification d’espèces végétales et connut un âge d’or pendant le dernier tiers du XIXe siècle . Financé par l’empire britannique, alors à son apogée, dont Calcutta demeura la capitale en Inde jusqu’en 1911, le jardin contribuait à la fois économiquement et symboliquement au dispositif impérial. La thèse examine conjointement ces deux dimensions, ce que l’historiographie n’a pas fait jusqu’à présent. En même temps qu’il servait les capitalistes britanniques en favorisant l’exploitation agricole des terres colonisées, le jardin incarnait un discours historique selon lequel la colonisation était une entreprise civilisatrice. Son espace sémiotiquement dense mettait en scène la maîtrise coloniale de la nature. Les plantes, spécimens et publications qu’il produisait alimentaient le fonctionnement à la fois matériel et discursif d’un pouvoir qui se disait mondial, fécond et scientifique. Les histoires du jardin issues de la sphère coloniale ont donc logiquement insisté sur son rôle dans la dissémination de nouvelles espèces en Inde, échafaudant un paradigme de l’introduction botanique qui a souvent été repris de manière non critique dans l’historiographie. Cette thèse propose précisément de faire un sort à l’idéologie historique portée par ce jardin en en examinant l’envers, les contradictions et les absurdités. Tout comme l’empire qu’il servait et représentait, le jardin était profondément dysfonctionnel. À partir de sources variées, j’élabore une histoire spatiale, matérielle et sociale de cette institution qui permet d’ouvrir de nouvelles perspectives sur le fait impérial en Inde à la fin du XIXe siècle
Established at the end of the eighteenth century by the East India Company, the Calcutta botanic garden became a centre for the acclimatization and classification of plants. The garden was funded by the imperial government and the last three decades of the nineteenth century, when the Raj reached its apex, represented its golden age. Situated in Calcutta, which remained the capital of British India until 1911, the garden contributed both economically and symbolically to the imperial system. This thesis chooses to consider these two aspects together, contrary to garden histories that have generally separated them. While the garden directly served British capitalists by contributing to the agricultural exploitation of colonized lands, it also embodied a historical discourse according to which colonization was a civilizing entreprise. Its semiotically dense space displayed the colonial control over nature. The plants, specimens and publications that it produced played, by word and deed, into the hands of a power that represented itself as global, productive and scientific. Histories of the garden produced within the colonial sphere have therefore insisted on the part it played in the dissemination of new species in India. By doing so, these histories have created a paradigm of botanical introduction that was often taken for granted in the subsequent historical production about the garden. This thesis chooses precisely to study the historical ideology that the garden embodied and sustained, a careful study of which shows that it was full of contradictions, failures and absurdities. Both the garden and the empire that it served were deeply dysfunctional. Based on a great variety of sources, this thesis presents a spatial, material and social history of the garden which sheds new light on the nature of imperialism in India at the end of the nineteenth century

Cette thèse intitulée « Esthétique et poétique des jardins : entre art et science, parcours et discours dans la fiction sandienne» vise à étudier la place qu’occupe le jardin essentiellement dans les romans, contes et nouvelles de George Sand. L’enjeu de cette recherche est de démontrer que le jardin chez Sand ne se réduit pas à un simple arrière-plan, à un élément de fioriture, ou à une pure thématique. Il revêt au contraire chez l’auteure une ampleur considérable allant jusqu’à devenir un objet spéculatif capable de repenser tout à la fois les genres et les esthétiques et de susciter de riches réflexions en rapport avec l’art (peinture, architecture, dessins) et la science (botanique, écologie, horticulture, minéralogie) au XIXe siècle. Le jardin occupe aussi une place de choix dans l’œuvre de Sand en vertu de ses diverses fonctions diégétiques, poétiques et symboliques au sein de la diégèse, mais aussi en raison de son aptitude à être un lieu de cheminement au sein duquel le promeneur peut se promettre divers plaisirs et évolutions. Le jardin devient en ce sens un monde complet en soi, un lieu riche et influent, un véritable creuset de signes et de significations dont se sert l’auteure pour véhiculer son idéologie, ses goûts esthétiques, ses pensées intimes, son idéalisme, ainsi que sa philosophie de la vie
This thesis entitled "esthetic and poetic of gardens: between art and science, path and speech in Sandian fiction" aims to study the place of garden especially in novels, tales and short stories of George Sand. The challenge of this research is to prouve that the garden for Sand is not just a backdrop, an element of flourish, or a pure topic. In contrast, it takes on a considerable scale in the author's work, even becoming a speculative object able to rethink genres and esthetics at the same time and generating rich reflections related to art (painting, architecture, drawings) and science (botany, ecology, horticulture, mineralogy) in the 19th century. The garden occupies a prominent place in the work of Sand due to its various diegetic, poetic and symbolic functions within the diegesis, but also because of its aptitude to be a pathway within which the walker can promise himself various pleasures and evolutions. The garden becomes in that way, a complete world by itself, a rich and impactful place, a veritable crucible of signs and meanings that the author uses to convey her ideology, her esthetic preferences, her intimate thoughts, her idealism, as well as her life philosophy

Abstract:
Les plantes en coussins sont connues pour leur capacité fondatrice de nouvel habitat pour les autres espèces. Par ailleurs, des études ont montré que la variation morphologique au sein d’espèces fondatrices peut induire une variation des effets compétiteurs sur les espèces subordonnées, ce qui peut affecter la composition des communautés. Cette thèse a pour objectif d’étudier les conséquences d’une variation intraspécifique de deux espèces fondatrices (Festuca gautieri et Onobrychis cornuta) occupant des micro-environnements contrastés dans deux systèmes montagneux [les Pyrénées (France) et le Mont-Liban (Liban),respectivement] sur les communautés végétales associées (subalpines etoroméditerranéennes, respectivement). Nous avons évalué par des approches descriptives et/ou expérimentales (jardins expérimentaux, transplantations réciproques) les contributions de la génétique et de la plasticité à la variation morphologique entre deux phénotypes de coussins (dense et lâche) pour chaque espèce fondatrice, et à leurs effets contrastés sur les espèces subordonnées. Nous avons également quantifié les effets rétroactifs de la communauté pour la reproduction des espèces fondatrices. Nos résultats montrent une contribution à la fois de la génétique et de la plasticité à la variation phénotypique. La base génétique des variations morphologiques entre les phénotypes a induit des différences héréditaires d’effets compétiteurs sur les espèces subordonnées, tout en contrecarrant l’augmentation de la compétition avec la diminution du stress – le résultat dominant dans la littérature sur les systèmes subalpins. Nous avons aussi trouvé des effets rétroactifs négatifs des espèces subordonnées pour l’espèce fondatrice, avec une diminution de la production de fleurs (par les coussins) due au nombre croissant d’espèces subordonnées. La diversité des espèces subordonnées était plus élevée dans les conditions environnementales favorables que dans les stressantes. Par conséquent, nous avons conclu que les effets génétiques surmontent les effets environnementaux, limitant la compétition dans les milieux favorables, maintenant ainsi une plus grande diversité dans ces milieux que dans les milieux stressants
Alpine cushion plants are foundation species known for their nursingability. Moreover, studies have shown that morphological variation in foundationspecies can trigger variation in competitive effects on subordinate species, likely toaffect community composition. We investigated the consequences of intraspecificvariation within two alpine cushion species (Festuca gautieri and Onobrychis cornuta)across heterogeneous environments in two mountain ranges [the Pyrenees (France)and Mount-Lebanon (Lebanon), respectively] for the associated plant communities(subalpine and oromediterranean, respectively). We assessed with observationaland/or experimental (common-gardens, reciprocal transplantation experiments)approaches the relative contribution of genetics and plasticity to the morphologicalvariation between two cushion phenotypes (tight and loose) of the foundationspecies, and to their differential effects on subordinate species. Communityfeedbacks were also quantified. Our results show that both genetics and plasticitycontributed to the phenotypic variation. The genetic basis of the morphologicaldifferences between phenotypes induced heritable differences in competitive effectson subordinate species, but however counteracted the general increase incompetition with decreasing stress dominantly found in the literature on subalpinesystems. We also found negative feedbacks of subordinates on foundation speciesfitness, with higher cover of subordinate species reducing the cushions flowerproduction. Subordinate species diversity was higher in benign than in stressedenvironmental conditions. Consequently, we concluded that genetic effects overcomethe environmental effects by limiting competition in benign physical conditions, thusmaintaining a higher diversity in benign than stressed conditions

De 2003 à 2017, le jardin des Premières-Nations du Jardin botanique de Montréal a été le lieu d’exposition de 12 œuvres d’artistes autochtones dans le cadre du Concours d’œuvre murale éphémère lancé par Sylvie Paré. Ce mémoire rassemble l’ensemble de cette exposition afin d’en relever le discours général et les liens que les œuvres entretiennent entre elles, avec le Jardin et avec les territoires physiques et imaginaires. À travers une analyse formelle et symbolique des œuvres qui intègre les ontologies, épistémologies et méthodologies des Premières Nations, je souhaite réfléchir aux liens qui unissent les notions que sont le regard, le territoire, l’interconnexion et la mémoire. Le premier chapitre s’articule autour du mouvement de distanciation opéré par le regard perçu comme un intermédiaire « objectif » de l’expérience humaine et de la séparation (ou schisme) qu’il engendre entre nature et culture. Je m’intéresse ensuite à la remise en question de cette rupture par le Jardin des Premières-Nations. Le deuxième chapitre de ce mémoire s’intéresse plus spécifiquement aux perspectives obliques adoptées par les œuvres du concours en ce qu’ils se portent sur les mémoires et les marques culturelles laissées par les nations autochtones sur les territoires depuis plus de 10 000 ans. Par ailleurs, si les murales traduisent généralement une inquiétude environnementale, elles le font à travers le regard de différentes « entités » qui y circulent de manière fluide et circulaire dans l’espace, le temps et l’intersubjectivité. Elles explorent les traces physiques et imaginaires des relations entretenues avec le territoire et mettent en lumière l’existence d’une relation de réciprocité avec l’univers dont le territoire tient un rôle dynamique.
From 2003 to 2017, the First Nations Garden of the Montréal Botanical Garden has exhibited each year the mural artwork of an Indigenous artist as part of the Ephemeral mural contest launched by Sylvie Paré. This memoir brings together all of this exhibition in order to highlight the general discourse and the relations that the artworks have with each other, with the Garden and with the physical and imaginary territories. Through a formal and symbolic analysis of this exposition, that integrates the ontologies, epistemology and methodologies of the First Nations, I wish to reflect on the links that unite the notions of gaze, territory, interconnection and memory. The first chapter focuses on the distance generated by the sight seen as an intermediary “objective” of human experience, and the separation (or schism) that it created between the conceptions of nature and culture. I will then look at how the First Nations Garden questions this rupture. The second chapter of this dissertation focuses more specifically on the oblique perspectives adopted by the mural artworks in that they focus on memories and cultural marks left by the indigenous nations on the territories for more than 10,000 years. Moreover, if the murals generally express an environmental concern, they do so through the eyes of different “entities” circulating fluidly and circularly in space, time and intersubjectivity. They explore the physical and imaginary traces of relationships with the territory and highlight the existence of a relationship of reciprocity with the universe in which the territory plays a dynamic role.
