Abstract:

Abstract:

abstract: The largest non-filmic archives of the Los Angeles–based gay pornography studio Jaguar Productions are records of the company's policing under anti-gay legal regimes outlawing sodomy and obscenity. Given that such archives hold the bulk of extant records on Jaguar, state abuse not only affected the history of Jaguar but now also affects the historiographic process for making sense of what happened to the company. Archives of policing incriminate law enforcement in the production of anti-gay visual records. These law enforcement records were ultimately forged out of bigoted aims to destroy gay solidarity and community infrastructures.

Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractThe vividly painted “Battle Mural” of Cacaxtla (Tlaxcala, Mexico) depicts the gory results of a battle between racially distinct factions, characterized by their opposing jaguar and bird insignia. The two central Bird figures that remain standing are shown as captives, and in both cases they are attired in elaborate costumes that include diagnostic items of female clothing, including thequechquemitlcape and long skirt. Other figures are nude or are shown in simple male costumes, including themaxtlatlloincloth. This paper considers arguments of whether the two central figures were biological females, or rather, that the presence of female apparel on male actors was used within a context of conquest, symbolically transmitted through a gender ideology of male dominance and female subordination. While the evidence is inconclusive, we employ a contextual analysis of pre-Columbian pictorial manuscripts and Mexican cosmology to argue that these individuals were female. Furthermore, we suggest that the elaborate costume elements associated with these female figures, and their recurrence with the Jaguar Lord 3 Deer Antler “Tlaloc mask,” indicates that this was a noblewoman destined for marriage as a means of binding the Jaguar and Bird dynasties. Thus the Battle Mural depicts the capture of the “founding queen,” with the subsequent union demonstrated by the complementary depictions of Jaguar and Bird lords on Building A.

Abstract:
– In the focus of this collaboration are two stories by the same narrator about the emergence of his shamanic vocation (Secoya, Ecuadorian Amazon). Told a few years apart, the stories show how the process of moving away from the influences of an American missionary institution and returning to one’s own traditions was accompanied by distressing existential processes, which included the suicide attempt. The question is posed about the silence of the speaker regarding two constitutive features of both Secoya shamanism and most Amazonian shamanisms: that of its specific power (rawē), the transformation into a jaguar, and the alliance with jaguars. The question is raised about the influences exerted by discourses outside the indigenous society, which only make the beneficial aspect of shamanism prevail, thus destroying the constitutive ambiguity of this phenomenon. Abstract:
AbstractIn May 2010, Julián Miranda, an Indigenous Asháninka shaman, died hours after killing a jaguar-shaman. Despite knowing that it could kill him, he killed a jaguar-shaman to protect his cows, an investment to support the much-desired progreso (‘progress’) of his children and grandchildren through education. Julián's choice was one of personal sacrifice driven by the hardships he experienced in the degraded forests of the Bajo Urubamba valley in the Peruvian Amazon. My examination of his decision to kill the jaguar-shaman engages with the multi-disciplinary literature on how local peoples engage with the expanding extractive frontier in Latin America. The emphasis most literature places on social movements and – to a lesser extent – on the ontological characteristics of these conflicts needs to be counterbalanced by individual experiences like Julián's for a deeper understanding of the multiple local experiences of large-scale resource extraction and the different strategies through which people pursue their desired futures.

Abstract:
Monumental art of the Maya incorporates figural imagery and hieroglyphic texts to document dynastic and mythical history. One particular monument tells us that near the end of April in 752 A.D., Bird Jaguar IV was inaugurated as ruler of the Mayan city now known as Yaxchilan. Investigation of his sculptural programmes reveals a multiplicity of innovative solutions for Bird Jaguar's unparalleled problems in validating a tenuous claim to rulership of Yaxchilan. It appears that in order to compensate for his insufficient genealogical claim, Bird Jaguar fabricated a series of ritual events which proclaimed his political legitimacy. This study examines the intended integration of two parallel systems of communication: the visual and hieroglyphic languages of the Maya. Analysis shows how Bird Jaguar's artists presented symbolic references which manipulated the past history, justified the current history, and established the future political history of Yaxchilan.

We investigated in this work, the novel O rastro do Jaguar (2009), by the Minas Gerais born journalist Murilo Carvalho, awarded by Leya, a Portuguese book publishing company, in 2008. Our objective was to investigate, in the textual construction of the novel, the journey of the character Pierre Saint'Hilaire in search for his identity. Rastro do Jaguar is a narrative that overlaps in two periods: the present, in which the journalist Pereira, on the eve of 1900, recalls his friendship with Pierre in France, and the second, which occurs in Brazil, in the contexts of War of the Brazilian Empire against the Botocudo Indians and the War of Paraguay. The work focuses on the indigenous as an element simultaneously marginalized by History and agent of the process of colonization of the country. As Pierre discovers himself as the "other," in identifying himself with his primitive roots, he passes from spectator to agent and assumes the spirit of the Jaguar, who will lead the Guarani people in search of the Earth without evils. This dissertation is composed of three chapters. In the first one, we discuss the relationship between Literature and History (Antonio Esteves, Marilene Weinhardt, Linda Hutcheon and others), emphasizing aspects of the historical novel in Brazil and tackling two historical facts, much represented in Literature, revisited in O rastro do Jaguar: Botocudos’ resistance war (Manuela C. Cunha, Márcia Amantino and others) and the War of Paraguay (Julio Chiavenato, Mary del Priore and others). In the second chapter, we make considerations about literature and impressions of the journey (Fernando Cristóvão, Tzvetan Todorov and others), focusing on aspects of the traditional journey accounts of European explorers from the 16 th to the 19 th century and the travel impressions of contemporary authors. Finally, in the third, we analyze the search of Pierre Saint'Hilaire for his Guarani identity.

This dissertation investigates the presence of the song of the sirens by Homer in "Meu tio o Iauaretê ", by Guimarães Rosa, using as theoretical reference the studies of Blanchot (2005), Oliveira (2008),), Agamben (2014) and Nogueira (2014), among others. In the wake of the interpretation of Blanchot, which traces an analogy between the song of the sirens and the literature making, every writer repeats the deed of Homeric’s character, since the narrative is an unpredictable and infinite searching movement, which makes present the navigation from the actual song to the imaginary song. We question whether there is a resumption of the song of the sirens in the studied narrative, with the goal of specifying how it happens and what its significance is, assuming that the jaguanhenhém song erupts from the threshold experience of metamorphosis between human and inhuman voice/song; portuguese, tupi and animal noise; articulated and unarticulated language. After analysis, we have come to the conclusion that this narrative stages the act of narrating itself, using a language between human-inhuman, in the process of enchantment, seduction and perdition of the triad author-narrator-reader

Abstract:

Abstract:
Large carnivores in human care have been reported to engage in stereotypic behaviors. Such behavior is thought to be correlated with high stress levels, in part, due to captive environments limiting opportunities for functional consequences and environmental stimuli. Moreover, there are several arguments stating that stereotypic behaviors can be indicative of poor welfare, as they can often have severe negative emotional and physical effects on the animal. The first portion of this study included a five-phase treatment analysis which evaluated whether environmental manipulations decrease the frequency of stereotypic behaviors including pacing, over-grooming and tail-sucking exhibited by a single male jaguar housed at Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens. The aim of the present study was to evaluate possible environmental variables that were reported by staff as likely variables maintaining or promoting stereotypic behavior. Data collection occurred during a 10-week evaluation and followed an ABCAD reversal design. Both behavioral data and fecal glucocorticoid metabolite levels were analyzed. The second portion of this analysis included a multi-institutional survey to assess the prevalence of the stereotypic behaviors exhibited by zoo-housed jaguars in North American AZA-accredited institutions. Results from the behavioral assessment revealed a decrease in stereotypic behaviors with the implementation of treatment conditions. Hormone analyses revealed that stereotypic pacing is not presently correlated with higher stress levels for this animal. Finally, survey results revealed that a significant portion of the North American jaguar population engages in stereotypic behaviors. Further analyses are necessary to identify potential patterns or environmental predictors for the development of stereotypic behaviors.

Abstract:
Debugging is the task of locating and fixing defects in a program.Despite the increase of its importance in last decades, debuggingis responsible for a large part of costs in a software project by organizations.Among the techniques proposed to minimize thesedifficulties, Spectrum-Based Fault Localization (SFL) is a promisingdebugging technique due to it is relative low execution cost.Recently, visualization tools have been proposed to represent thesuspicious values of program elements with SFL techniques in differentmetaphors. Some tools use textual representation and others avisual representation. In this paper, we compare two SFL debuggingtools. Jaguar presents the most suspicious elements of a programin a list sorted by suspicious values. CodeForest represents the programin a three dimensional cacti forest. In this article are presentedthe results of an evaluation with 119 students to assess the usabilityperception of these tools to the fault localization by TechnologyAcceptance Model (TAM). This model aims to help organizationsduring the evaluation of new technologies. The results of studyshow that Jaguar has greater usability than CodeForest; however, the statistical effect size observed is low between them.

Abstract:

Abstract A computer model has been developed to provide a design analysis tool for assessing the flow characteristics of an engine lubrication system. Parametric studies can be conducted to predict the pressure and flow of oil throughout the lubrication system and to study the effects of various design parameters and operating conditions. This paper reports on the development of the engine lubrication system flow model at the Advanced Technology Centre in collaboration with Jaguar Cars. The results of the simulation model are assessed and its future potential as a computer aided analysis tool for engine development programmes is examined.

Abstract:
Abstract Jaguar field is one of the largest oil field producers in the Central Sumatra Basin. Currently, there are more than 11,000 wells drilled in the field and it has been developed by steam flood enhanced oil recovery since the 1980s. Steam flood injection and production performance are being monitored through regular cased hole reservoir surveillance acquired from around 900 Temperature Observation Wells (TOWs). Dynamic reservoir properties of temperature, gas/steam saturation and remaining oil saturation monitored through these TOWs. In reservoir under steam injection, water saturation calculation based on open hole log (resistivity) will be very challenging. Because the presence of steam in reservoir which makes temperature higher, will affect resistivity value in reservoir, either resistivity log from wire line acquisition or water resistivity (Rw). Resistivity of a saline solution measured at two different temperatures reads differently: it will read lower in high temperatures; higher in low temperatures. The accuracy of resistivity value later will affect water saturation result. Currently we used formation temperature in Jaguar field based on Gradient Geothermal based on internal study (2004). The formation temperature from this equation gives low temperature, even lower than maximum reading temperature from open hole log. This will make Rw value in the reservoir is higher than it should be. With Rw value higher, oil saturation calculation result will be more pessimistic. To get the more reliable oil saturation calculation result, we need to get information of temperature that is closer to the actual formation temperature in the reservoir. Several alternative temperatures can be obtained and used to replace the formation temperature of the geothermal gradient.

Abstract:
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Vehicle efficiency and range, along with the DC charging speed, are deemed as the most important criteria for an electric vehicle currently. The electric vehicle energy consumption is impacted by the change in temperature along with the driving style and average speed of a customer, all other factors being constant. Hence understanding the patterns and impact of different aspects of an EV range &amp; charging speed is crucial in delivering an electric vehicle with robust efficiency across all weather conditions. In this paper we have analysed vehicle parameters of global Jaguar I-PACE customer data. We present and analyse the collated big data of around 50,000+ unique vehicles with a data aggregate of well over 482 million km. In moderate ambient conditions the analysis indicated a good correlation with 50th to 75th percentile drivers’ energy consumption to the EPA label figure. The EPA hot and cold ambient tests also compare well but the correlation is sensitive to long and short trip distances. The cumulative data of the global fleet, for 75th percentile customers, shows that the total consumption of the vehicle increases by 81% and 47%, from the median energy consumption at 20°C, at -10°C and 0°C respectively. Similarly, the global fleet energy consumption, for 75th percentile customers, increased by 7% and 31% respectively, from the median energy consumption at 20°C, at 30°C and 40°C respectively. The paper then deep dives into data bins analysing the consumption sources for certain key drive and ambient scenarios.</div></div>

Abstract:
When planning experiments to examine how product performance depends on the design, manufacture and environment of use, there are invariably too few resources to enable a complete investigation of all possible variables (factors). Here we describe a web-based system for eliciting company knowledge into an efficient two-stage group screening method. The method investigates the effect of a large number of factors by grouping them in a first stage experiment whose results identify factors to be further investigated in a second stage. Central to the success of the procedure is ensuring that the factors considered, and their grouping, are based on the best available knowledge of the product. We present a web-based software system that allows information and ideas to be contributed by engineers at different sites and uses these expert opinions to guide decisions on the planning of group screening experiments. The software includes elements that predict the total resource needed for the experiment It also simulates the results of the experiment and estimates the likely percentage of important or active factors that fail to be detected. The approach is illustrated through the planning of an experiment on engine cold start optimization at Jaguar Cars.
