Abstract:
Crop diversification in saline affected coastal areas is crucial for food security in Bangladesh. A pot experiment was conducted at polythene house at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur-1706 during May to August, 2017 to determine the effect of salt stress on growth and yield performance of foxtail millets. Five foxtail millets genotypes viz. (i) BARI Kaon-1 (check), (ii) BD-878, (iii) BD-897, (iv) BD-891 and (v) BD-881 were tested under three salt stresses viz. (i) control (0 dS/m), (ii) 6 dS/m and (iii) 12 dS/m. Completely randomized design (CRD) with three replications was followed in the study. The growth parameter viz. stem dry matter, leaf dry matter and root dry matter production of foxtail millets genotypes were significantly varied due to salinity stresses. Salinity stresses also significantly influenced yield and yield contributing characteristics of foxtail millets. The genotypes BD-897 and BD-881 produced the higher dry matter, grains per panicle and grain yield per plants under the saline level of 6 dS/m. The higher stress tolerance index of both the genotypes demonstrate that the genotypes BD-897 and BD-881 were more salt tolerant. Bangladesh Agron. J. 2018, 21(1): 51-59

Abstract:
A pot experiment was conducted to study the effects of salt stress on physiological parameters associated to salinity tolerance in foxtail millet plant in the Department of Agronomy, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur, Bangladesh during March to May, 2018. Four foxtail millet genotypes namely i) BD-881 ii) BD-897 iii) BD-878 and iv) BARI kaon-1 were grown and each pot was irrigated using three levels of saline water viz. control (tap water), 60 mM saline water and 120 mM saline water. Results indicated that genotypic variability was profound in salinity tolerance in foxtail millet. The leaves of BD-878 maintained higher water content, higher accumulation of proline, and lower accumulation of malondialdehyde (MDA) as well as less reduction of chlorophyll compared to other genotypes studied. BD-878 also showed relatively higher salinity stress tolerance, while BD-897 was susceptible in relation to yield. Higher salinity tolerance in BD-878 was associated with higher relative leaf water and chlorophylls with accumulation of higher amount of proline and lower accumulation of malondialdehyde content. Abstract:
During myogenesis myoblasts fuse to form multinucleate cells that express muscle-specific proteins. A specific cell-cell adhesion process precedes lipid bilayer union during myoblast fusion (Knudsen, K. A., and A. F. Horwitz. 1977. Dev. Biol. 58:328-338) and is mediated by cell surface glycoproteins (Knudsen, K. A., 1985. J. Cell Biol. 101:891-897). In this paper we show that myoblast adhesion and myotube formation are inhibited by treating fusion-competent myoblasts with phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase C (PI-PLC). The effect of PI-PLC on myoblast adhesion is dose dependent and inhibited by D-myo-inositol 1-monophosphate and the effect on myotube formation is reversible, suggesting a specific, nontoxic effect on myogenesis by the enzyme. A soluble form of adhesion-related glycoproteins is released from fusion-competent myoblasts by treatment with PI-PLC as evidenced by (a) the ability of phospholipase C (PLC)-released material to block the adhesion-perturbing activity of a polyclonal antiserum to intact myoblasts; and (b) the ability of PLC-released glycoprotein to stimulate adhesion-perturbing antisera when injected into mice. PI-PLC treatment of fusion-competent myoblasts releases an isoform of N-CAM into the supernate, suggesting that N-CAM may participate in mediating myoblast interaction during myogenesis.

Abstract:
The avian leukosis virus subgroup J (ALV-J) belongs to the chicken retrovirus that causes enormous economic losses in the poultry industry. Interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) are critical for controlling virus infections. Here, we identified 897 type I ISGs induced by interferon-α (IFN-α) in chicken peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) by RNA-Seq. In addition, we further identified 152 potential anti-ALV-J chicken type I ISGs. Among these potential anti-ALV-J ISGs, chicken cholesterol 25-hydroxylase (chCH25H) was selected for further antiviral mechanism studies in chicken embryo fibroblast cell lines (DF1). The gene chCH25H is located on chromosome 6 and clustered in a distinct group with mammals CH25H in the phylogenetic tree. The core promoter region of chCH25H was located within −75/−1 sequence. We found that chCH25H was induced by chicken IFN-α and ALV-J in DF1 cells. The overexpression of chCH25H significantly inhibited ALV-J replication in DF1 cells at 48 h post infection (hpi). In addition, ALV-J replication was significantly enhanced in the chCH25H- knockout DF1 cells. Furthermore, we demonstrated that chCH25H restricted ALV-J infection through the production of 25-hydroxycholesterol (25HC), rather than type I and II interferon. Our results identified 152 potential anti-ALV-J chicken type I ISGs and revealed that 25HC, the product of chCH25H, could be used as a natural antiviral agent to control ALV-J infection.

Neau, Jessy. "L'écran de l’écriture : les adaptations cinématographiques de Wojciech J. Has comme opérateurs de lecture des textes de Jean Potocki, Bolesław Prus et Bruno Schulz." Thesis, Poitiers, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017POIT5001/document.

Abstract:
This dissertation proposes a renewed approach to the topic of film adaptation, by studying several literary texts together with their film adaptations directed by the same filmmaker, Wojciech Jerzy Has (1925-2000). The originality of our analysis lies in placing films, not texts, as primary and central elements in the organization of our approach. By the choice of a target-oriented approach (Cattrysse 2014), literary texts become the points of arrival rather than the starting points of this comparative analysis. Three films directed by Wojciech Has give the impulse to an itinerary of analyzes that includes various texts adapted by this director (those of Jan Potocki, Bruno Schulz and Bolesław Prus). This mode of organization creates unprecedented modes of relation between the texts and the films, but also between texts themselves, while no relation of explicit intertextuality justifies their connections: Jan Potocki’s Zaragoza Manuscript (1794-1810), Bolesław Prus’ The Doll (1890) the short stories of Bruno Schulz (1934-1937) belong to three different centuries. The reversal of the traditional critical path that we are implementing in this work, by mobilizing the resources of films to capture and project the experience of reading, reveals analogies between filmic and textual analysis. The notions of figure and montage will allow to discover how adaptations can also qualify as rewritings (réécritures) (Ropars 1990), a concept that points towards films that alter the text.It is by the unveiling of some figures related to the fantastic genre that a posterior coherence is given to the texts adapted by Has: the three films present doubles, automata, labyrinth experiences and self-reflexive configurations, creating new relationships between heterogeneous texts. Our research doubles the experimentation of this cinematographic operator of the literature with a fantastic operator, which acts as an element of cohesion in the differential game between literature and cinema

Abstract:
AbstractAcute and chronic graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in patients who undergo allogeneic haematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) and affects approximately 30–40% of recipients. Prevention remains the goal, and the recent introduction of post-transplant cyclophosphamide in the haploidentical transplant setting is changing the landscape. GvHD diagnosis is complicated, and grading and staging vary depending upon the tool and transplant centre involved. For the majority of patients who go on to develop GvHD, corticosteroids remain the first-line treatment for both acute and chronic forms of the disease. Recipients that are refractory to systemic steroids have a plethora of second- and third-line options available to them. A ‘standard of care’ approach has not yet become agreed globally due to poor evidence from small and limited randomised control trials. However, the recent REACH (Zeiser et al. N Engl J Med. 382(19):1800–10, 2020; Zeiser et al. N Engl J Med. 385(3):228–38, 2021) and ROCKstar trials (Cutler et al. Blood. 38(22):2278–89, 2021) have armed clinicians with new and effective therapies. Supportive care is paramount, and the nurse is at the centre of the patient’s care and in the best position to guide and advise the patient and family through this often-long-term complication.

Abstract:
It has been known for some time that an acid chloride 1 can be added to an alkyne 2 to give the β-chloro enone. Yasushi Tsuji of Kyoto University found (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2009, 131, 6668) that with an Ir catalyst, the condensation of 1 with 2 could be directed to the furan 3. Huanfeng Jiang of the South China University of Technology described (Organic Lett. 2009, 11, 1931) a complementary route to furans, Cu-mediated condensation of a propargyl alcohol 4 with the diester 5 to give 6. Bruce A. Arndtsen of McGill University developed (Organic Lett. 2009, 11, 1369) an approach to pyrroles such as 9, by condensation of an α,β-unsaturated α-cyano imine 7 with the acid chloride 8. Thomas J. J. Müller of Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf observed (Organic Lett. 2009, 11, 2269) the condensation of an acid chloride 11 with a propargyl amine 10, leading to the iodo pyrrole 12. John A. Murphy of the University of Strathclyde uncovered (Tetrahedron Lett. 2009, 50, 3290) a new entry to the Fischer indole synthesis, by Petasis homologation of a hydrazide 13. Dali Yin of Peking Union Medical College took advantage (Organic Lett. 2009, 11, 637) of the easy sequential displacement of the fluorides of 15, leading, after acid-catalyzed cyclization, to the indole 17. Kang Zhao of Tianjin University extended (Organic Lett. 2009, 11, 2417; Organic Lett. 2009, 11, 2643) his studies of oxidation of an enamine 18 to the 2H -azirine, that on heating cyclized to the indole 19. Peter Wipf of the University of Pittsburgh established (Chem. Commun. 2009, 104) a microwave-promoted indole synthesis, illustrated by the intramolecular Diels-Alder cyclization of 20 to 21. A review delineating all nine types of indole syntheses will appear shortly in Angewandte Chemie . Fushun Liang and Qun Liu of Northeast Normal University demonstrated (J. Org. Chem. 2009, 74, 899) that the readily-prepared ketene thioacetal 22 condensed with NH3 to give the pyridine 23. Sundaresan Prabhakar and Ana M. Lobo of the New University of Lisbon observed (Tetrahedron Lett. 2009, 50, 3446) that the addition of the alkoxy propargyl amine to the alkyne 25 gave a Z alkene, that on warming rearranged to the pyridine 26.

Abstract:
The volume of fluid (VOF) method is one of the most widely used methods to simulate interfacial flows using fixed grids. However, its application to phase change processes in solidification problems is relatively infrequent. In this work, preliminary results of the application of a new methodology to the simulation of dendritic growth of pure metals is presented. The proposed approach is based on a recent VOF method with PLIC (piecewise linear interface calculation) reconstruction of the interface. A diffused-interface method is used to solve the energy equation, which avoids the need of applying the thermal boundary conditions directly at the solid front. The thermal gradients at both sides of the interface, which are needed to accurately obtain the front velocity, are calculated with the aid of a distance function. The advection equation of a discretized solid fraction function is solved using the unsplit VOF advection method proposed by Lo´pez et al. [J. Comput. Phys. 195 (2004) 718–742] (extended to three dimensions by Herna´ndez et al. [Int. J. Numer. Methods Fluids 58 (2008) 897-921]). The interface curvature is computed using an improved height function (HF) technique, which provides second-order accuracy. The assessment of the proposed methodology is carried out by comparing the numerical results with analytical solutions and with results obtained by different authors for the formation of complex dendritic structures in two and three dimensions.

Abstract:
Between territories: Incremental changes to the domestic spatial interface between private and public domains. Agnieszka Wir-Konas¹, Kyung Wook Seo¹ ¹Department of Architecture and Built Environment, Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne. Newcastle City Campus, 2 Ellison Pl, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 8ST. E-mail: agnieszka.wir-konas@northumbria.ac.uk, kyung.seo@northumbria.ac.uk Keywords (3-5): building-street interface, incremental change, micro-morphology, private-public boundary, territory Conference topics and scale: Urban form and social use of space In this paper we investigate incremental changes to the relationship between private and public territory on the micro-morphological scale of the residential building-street interface. The building-street interface lies on the edge between two distinctively different spatial domains, the house and the street, and provides a buffer which may be adjusted to aid the transition from private to public territory. The structure of the space impacts both domains: it provides a fit transition from the private dwelling to the public territory, creates a space for probabilistic encounters between inhabitants and strangers, and maintains the liveability of the public street. The aim of this paper is threefold: Firstly, we recognise morphological differences in the structure of the interfaces and the way the transition from private to public territory was envisioned and designed in different societal periods. Secondly, we study incremental changes to the interface, representing individual adjustments to the private-public boundary, in order to recognize common types of adaptations to the existing structure of the interface. The history of changes to each individual building and building-street interface was traced by analysing planning applications and enforcements publicly provided by the city council. Lastly, we compare the capacity of each building-street interface to accommodate incremental change to the public-private transition. We argue that studying the incremental change of the interface and the capacity of each interface to accommodate micro-scale transformations aids in the understanding of the complex social relationship between an individual and a collective in the urban environment. Abstract:
Housing form and city form: Urban morphology and local identityKeywords (3-5): Building type, urban morphology, Valencia, housing, house floor-plan design This paper aims to analyse the processes of typological evolution of residential buildings in Valencia as a way to outline an 'affiliation' within the city's housing types, capable of endowing a local identity profile beyond European influences that began to generalise from mid-XIX century. The residential fabric of Valencia maintained a certain continuity/ intelligibility in its morphological evolution until the 1970s, in which the development of the 1966 PG marked a turning point, with the progressive incorporation of "modern" forms of housing, vaguely related to the diffusion of CIAM architectural principles. Nevertheless, a most substantial part of the city fabric, amounting to two-thirds of all residential buildings, was built before the 1966 PG, and therefore away from 'modern' housing practices. Most of this fabric, corresponding to neighbourhoods resulting from urban extension projects starting in the second half of the nineteenth century, is made out of serially-aggregated, multi-family buildings or 'houses of flats', forming perimeter blocks, whose profile still characterises visually the city's townscape. To a large extent, these 'houses of flats' are the result of a progressive codification of building prototypes that first appeared in the historic city, originating from the transformation of the traditional city-house. Initially, the transformation began with increasing the number of storeys, successively followed with processes of plot-aggregation, all combined with an horizontal division configuring new housing floor-plans. These processes progressively generated larger buildings, in which the plot shape and dimensions appear as determining instances. References (100 Word) ALONSO DE ARMIÑO, L. y PIÑON, J.L. (1986). Abstract:
Bolted joints are a major part of wind energy plants. Due to climatic conditions, they are often exposed to temperatures far below the freezing point. Together with the multiaxial state of stress, which results from the notch effect of the thread, and possible dynamic overloads during operation, sufficient ductility of the material is needed. The state of the art method to investigate the ductile behavior of fasteners is the Charpy pendulum impact test with a V-notched specimen. According to international standard DIN EN ISO 898-1 [1] respectively ASTM F568M-07 [2], fasteners made of carbon steel and alloy steel with a body centered cubic lattice structure can be used for temperatures down to 223 K (−50°C, −58°F) as long as a minimum impact energy of 27 J at 253 K (−20°C, −4°F) is met. As there are several disadvantages in using this test method for fasteners, a detailed examination of existing test methods and design concepts is necessary to find alternatives to the Charpy pendulum impact test. Extensive quasi-static and dynamic material tests were conducted on fasteners with property classes 5.6, 10.9 and 12.9 in a temperature range between 203 K (−70°C, −94°F) and room temperature 293 K (20°C, 68°F). Both mechanical properties and the influence of different specimen geometries were evaluated. Analytical concepts for the description of the low temperature applicability of different steels were analyzed.

When the documentary bases are photographs it is possible to carefully model the recorded elements using photogrammetry techniques based on 3D primitives, so that by means of an immersive navigation limited to certain points of view, an appearance of acceptable tridimensionality is obtained, where only isolated images of dispersed frames are available. The virtual recreation can be completed increasing its realistic appearance through its edition with animations of objects (for example, carriages) and characters, texts, musical setting, etc. The results can be presented in formats such as video or navigation through virtual reality helmets. From a selection of the first historical photographs of the Plaza de la Virgen, that we have obtained searching in several documentary sources, our multidisciplinary team is interested in a reliable, realistic and pleasant presentation of the urban environment of one of the most representative places in the city of Valencia, whose spatial configuration has changed significantly over the years. Abstract:
Wells drilled in North Pakistan are notorious for extreme tectonic stresses, pore pressure & geological uncertainties which in turn create significant amount of wellbore instability related challenges. All these problems posit extreme drilling challenges and results in significant NPT. Similar challenges were expected for the drilling of X-2 well being drilled by MOL Pakistan in TAL Block. The well was planned to be drilled to 3965m MD in J-shape profile in 147 days. However, during execution due to geological variance the target was revised to 4150m MD, and the profile was changed to S-shaped to further drill newly identified targets within the target tolerances. Despite the change in profile, increased footage and challenges on T&D, Hydraulics and Geo-mechanics front, the well targets were successfully achieved in 89 days with 30% cost savings from the project. The conundrum for efficient drilling in North Pakistan has been long explored however several short fallings were recorded in past. The Drilling team of MOL Pakistan deployed efficient data analytics, engineering, robust communication, and quick response skills to execute this project. This paper discusses in detail the thought process adopted during planning and execution of the well. The limiters that were posited and how they were managed.

Abstract:
Abstract Simulated under-matched butt weldments have been fabricated using commercially pure titanium (CP Ti) as an interleaf material diffusion bonded to a higher strength 6Al-4V titanium (6Al-4V Ti). Four-point bend bars were constructed where-by the only changing geometric feature is the thickness of the CP Ti interleaf which varied from 12 to 1.7 mm. The CP Ti and 6Al-4V Ti elastic moduli are 112.3 and 115.1 MPa while the yield stresses are 366 MPa and 896 MPa respectively. A through-crack was inserted in the center of the CP Ti interleaf. Due to the close moduli, the elastic T constraint terms do not change as the CP Ti interleaf thickness is varied. However, under plastic loading, the thickness of the interleaf has a large effect on the local plastic fields surrounding the crack tip as well as the initiation J values. Using a hybrid approach with moire interferometry and finite element methods, it has been found that the higher strength 6Al-4V Ti acts to constrain the crack tip plastic zone. The net result of this constraint is a reorientation of plastic flow in the CP Ti interleaf from 90 to 45 and 135 degrees and a mean stress 2.8 times larger that the flow stress. To understand the effect of the hydrostatic constraint on the initiation process in the CP Ti interleaf, a series of double interleaf tensile bars have been developed to obtain stress-strain curves of the CP Ti interleaf under varied constraint states. These tensile specimens indicate that for the highly constrained CP Ti interleafs, that the mode of fracture initiation is due to a form of cleavage initiating at the titanium carbide stringers.

Abstract:
AbstractThe urgency for developing a circular economy is growing, and more and more companies and organisations are concerned with the importance of adapting their business to fit a changing economy. However, many analyses on the circular economy are still rather abstract and there is a lack of understanding about what circularity would mean for specific industries. This insufficient insight especially seems to be apparent in the building and construction sector. Besides, the building and construction sector is responsible for a major part of energy use and emissions. To tackle the issue of insufficient insight into the business consequences of circular devlopments, further research is necessary. Therefore, we propose to collaborate on a research project that aims to provide a more detailed level of analysis. The goal is to identify drivers and barriers to make better use of materials in the building and construction sector. This further research would benefit from an international collaboration between universities of applied sciences and industry from different European countries. An additional benefit of the applied orientation would be the relevance for professional education programmes. References CBS, PBL & Wageningen UR. (2017). In ASME 2012 Third International Conference on Micro/Nanoscale Heat and Mass Transfer. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2012. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/mnhmt2012-75331.

Abstract:
Laser micromachining of aluminum films on glass substrates is investigated using a time-resolved transmission imaging technique with nanosecond resolution. Micromachining is performed using a 7 ns pulse-width Nd:YAG laser operating at the 1064 nm wavelength for fluences ranging from 2.2 to 14.5 J/cm2. Transmission imaging uses a nitrogen laser-pumped dye laser with a 3 ns pulse-width and 500 nm wavelength. Images are taken from the back of the sample at various time delays with respect to the beginning of the ablation process, allowing the transient hole opening process to be observed and measured. Results show that for high fluences the holes begin opening during the laser pulse and that the major portion of the holes have opened within the first 50 ns of the process. The second stage of the process is slower and lasts between 100–200 ns. The rapid hole opening process can be attributed to melt expulsion due to recoil pressure on the surface of the melt pool rather than Marangoni flow. Recoil pressure may be due to vaporization at the free surface at low fluences and phase explosion (explosive liquid-vapor phase change) at higher fluences. Measurements of the transient shock wave position are used to estimate the pressure behind the shock wave and indicate pressures at high as 89 atm during ablation. The high pressure above the laser spot results in pressure on the molten surface, leading to expulsion of the molten pool in the radial direction.
