Abstract:
Vermeersiekte or ‘vomiting disease’ is an economically important disease of ruminants following ingestion of Geigeria species in South Africa. Sheep are more susceptible and poisoning is characterised by stiffness, regurgitation, bloat, paresis and paralysis. Geigeria aspera was collected in the Vrede district (27° 25′ 48″ S; 29° 9′ 36″ E), Free State Province. The plant material was dried, milled and the toxic principles, known as sesquiterpene lactones, were extracted and isolated following chromatographic procedures. Even though geigerin and ivalin were previously isolated, an unknown sesquiterpene lactone, isogeigerin acetate, was also purified. Mouse myoblast (C2C12) and rat embryonic cardiac myocyte (H9c2) cell lines were exposed to different concentrations of geigerin, ivalin, isogeigerin acetate and a commercially available sesquiterpene lactone, parthenolide. An in vitro colorimetric assay 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) was used to assess cytotoxicity. The median effective concentrations (EC50) indicated that ivalin and parthenolide were significantly (p<0.05) more toxic than geigerin and isogeigerin acetate. A concentration-dependent cytotoxic response was observed in both cell lines, however, C2C12 cells were more sensitive. A high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis was used to evaluate the in vitro metabolism of parthenolide, following the addition of a mouse liver microsomal fraction. Results revealed that parthenolide, incubated with the microsomal fraction, undergoes enzymatic transformation to form a metabolite.

Resumo: Estudo do coreógrafo e professor Ivaldo Bertazzo, que desde os anos 70 desenvolve trabalhos com "cidadãos-dançantes", centrado na sua pesquisa de movimento. A partir de 2000, Bertazzo também se dedica a projetos de arte-educação com adolescentes da periferia do Rio de janeiro e São Paulo. O estudo tem três metas principais: traçar um panorama da trajetória de Ivaldo Bertazzo, como coreógrafo e diretor de espetáculos e de uma escola de dança; entender as bases da sua pesquisa de movimento e fazer a descrição analítica de seu trabalho específico com o corpo (Reeducação do Movimento), necessária para o entendimento da criação coreográfica; e investigar de que modo o conceito da construção da identidade pelo movimento, apontado por Bertazzo, ocorre no seu trabalho. Princípios coreográficos e técnica corporal foram abordados aqui no viés da "identidade e autonomia do movimento", entendida como forma de pensar o corpo, sua articulação e desenho no espaço, numa técnica híbrida, influenciada, por diversas fontes (incluindo a dança indiana, estudos de coordenação matara por Piret e Béziers e das cadeias musculares por Denys-Struyf). A obra de Bertazzo põe em xeque não só nossas idéias sobre o corpo, mas também nossa idéia de Brasil. Com isso em mente, durante a análise foi levada em conta a situação política do país e sua influência na evolução da dança nesse período, examinando as marcas que deixa no desenvolvimento dos criadores, obras, escolas e movimentos da nossa cultura. Abstract: This is a study of the Brazilian choregrapher and teacher IvaIdo Bertazzo, who has developed an original work with "citizen-dancers" since the 1970s, based on his own research on movement techniques. From 2000 on, Bertazzo has also developed a series of art-education projects with teenagers from poor neighbourhoods in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The thesis has three main aims: to draw a panorama of Bertazzo's career as a choreographer, artistic director and head of a dance school; to explain the bases for his research on movement, and to write an analytical descrition of his work on the body (Movement Reeducation), which is necessary in order to understand his choreographic creations; and to investigate the many ways in which his concept of "identity built by movement" pIays a role in this oeuvre. Choreographic principIes and body technique have been studied in the light of his ideas on "identity and autonomy of movement", taken as a way to think about the body, its shape and its forms of articulation in space, and leading to a hybrid technique, that draws on many different sources (including Indian dance, studies of coordination by Piret and Béziers, and the study ofmuscle chains by Denys-Struyf). Bertazzo's work challenges not only our ideas on the body, but aIso our ideas about Brazil. With that in mind, the research brings to attention many facets of the polítical situation and its influence upon Brazilian dance over these decades. It also examines the marks this has left on the work ofmany authors, schools and movements in Brazilian culture. The thesis collects photographs and video footage of many works performed over the Jast thirty years - an image bank which may be of great assistance for a better understanding of this period in Brazilian dance history

This thesis aims to plan and design an urban monument in Seoul, Republic of Korea, that can reflect the political movement of the city at the urban area which has been historically associated with political representations of the government and civic organizations. The advent of digital technologies allows a massive amount of social and political ideas of citizens to be collected efficiently through online networks, and enables this gathered data to be linked to physical environments through digital interactive interfaces. In this system, when users input data, interfaces respond to it by generating physical components interactively; therefore, individuals can create urban environments with own intentions. However, at the same time, the technological movement also raises a demand for a comprehensive master plan which can properly control digital systems in physical space. The goal of planning and design in this project is to create an urban master plan that can integrate the political symbolism of the site and the new technological system.

I den här uppsatsen undersöks Herr Ivan, en av de tre Eufemiavisorna, med syfte att utröna vilka lexikala skillnader det finns i arvorden mellan de tre svenska och två danska handskrifterna av romanen som finns bevarade från 1400-talet, kallade A–C resp. E–F. Det excerperade materialet består av de arvord som enligt Erik Noreens kritiska utgåva avviker i E–F i förhållande till A–C, med morfologiska och ortofonologiska skillnader borträknade. Vissa gränsfall diskuteras dock. Undersökningen tar upp ett axplock av de utbyten som bedömts som mest relevanta i fråga om mängd, ändringsfrekvens och sammanfall med det nutida ordförrådet i båda språken. Orden i materialet delas upp i ordklasser, och både antalet belägg och lexem har räknats. Materialet visar ingen stor skillnad mellan språken, men det finns dock tendenser till att de danska handskrifternas ordförråd ligger närmare det nutida än vad de svenska gör.

Abstract:
The basis of this dissertation confronts through different criteria Czech photographer Ivan Pinkava and Israeli Adi Nes. The works of both artists deal with stage photography based on direct references to well-known works in art history, biblical stories or other great stories from European culture. Part one will discuss their work within the brother context of postmodern art. Part two will talk about the formal aspects of their photographs, e.g. the character of lighting, structure of the picture. Finally the last chapter will explore the meaning and the subject-matter of their attitudes, specifically translating their photographic language in the relationship to painting, photography and cinematography.

Este trabalho analisa a narrativa fotográfica de Brasília a partir da obra dos fotógrafos Ivaldo Cavalcante Alves (1956-) e Luis Humberto Miranda Martins Pereira (1934-) – conhecido como Luis Humberto. Buscou-se destacar a maneira como ambos os fotógrafos narram a capital, levando-se em conta os referentes históricos e suas escolhas técnicas e estéticas. Valorizou-se a noção do fotógrafo como narrador para compreender como os autores se revelam nos próprios registros fotográficos. Foram analisadas 27 fotografias de Ivaldo Cavalcante que compõem a publicação Brasília: 25 anos de fotojornalismo (Brasília: Secretaria de Cultura do Distrito Federal – FAC, 2005) e o mesmo número de imagens de Luis Humberto, referentes ao ensaio O homem e o espaço, do livro Luis Humberto: do lado de fora da minha janela, do lado de dentro da minha porta (Fortaleza: Tempo d’ Imagem, 2010). As fotos analisadas têm como tema principal retratado o espaço urbano e o lugar do humano em Brasília, assuntos principais da reflexão proposta neste trabalho. A partir da análise das fotografias, pode-se dizer que cada imagem de O homem e o espaço afirma-se como contribuição à memória de Brasília. Lembranças de uma capital em construção, marcadas pelas imagens de canteiros de obras, da imensidão do cerrado e de operários trabalhando. Percebe-se também, sobretudo pelas imagens de Ivaldo Cavalcante, a capacidade da linguagem fotográfica em agenciar um discurso político que tanto elabora uma opinião pública sobre o que se registra como cria um imaginário social sobre seus objetos de registro. Conclui-se, então, que não são apenas dois pontos de vista sobre um lugar, mas consequência de interesses e expectativas distintas. Dos fragmentos imagéticos emerge uma cidade em permanente transformação, muito mais que permanência. _______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
This work analyzes the photographic narrative of Brasilia based on the work of the photographers Ivaldo Cavalcante Alves (1956-) and Luis Humberto Miranda Martins Pereira (1934-) - known as Luis Humberto. We attempted to highlight how both photographers narrate the capital, considering the historical references and their technical and aesthetic choices. We stand out the notion of the photographer as narrator to understand how the authors reveal themselves by means of their photographic records. We analyzed 27 photographs of Ivaldo Cavalcante that comprises the book Brasília: 25 anos de fotojornalismo (Brasília: Secretaria de Cultura do Distrito Federal – FAC, 2005) and the same number of pictures of Luis Humberto, referring to the essay O homem e o espaço, from the book Luis Humberto: do lado de fora da minha janela, do lado de dentro da minha porta (Fortaleza: Tempo d’ Imagem, 2010). The analyzed photos main theme portrayed the urban space and the place of the human in Brasilia, the main subjects of reflection proposed in this work. From the analysis of the photographs, we can say that each image of O homem e o espaço is states itself as a contribution to the memory of Brasilia. Memories of a capital in construction, marked by images of construction sites, the vastness of the city and of working men. We can also see, especially in Ivaldo Cavalcante’s pictures, the capacity of the photographic language to promote a political discourse that both drafts a public opinion about what is recorded as creates a social imaginary of its objects of registry. Then it is concluded that not only there are two points of view about a place, but it is a consequence of distinct interests and expectations. From imagistic fragments emerges a city in constant transformation, much more than permanence.

Abstract:
The aim of this study has been to examine if there is alignment between the national exam for writing in Swedish – ages 9 to10 – and main study materials for writing in Swedish intended for the school years leading up to the test. This study also aims to compare two different learning materials writing assignments with one another to find possible similarities and differences. The study focuses on writing assignments in one traditional (printed) textbook series and one digital study material. The material is analyzed according to Ivaničs theory about discourses of writing and learning to write. The results are compared to answer the following questions: In what way is there, or is there not, alignment – based on Ivanič’s theory of writing discourses– between the writing assignments in the national exam for ages 9 to 10, and the writing assignments found in printed and digital study materials? What are the similarities and the differences between the writing assignments in the printed and digital study materials based on Ivanič’s theory of writing discourses? The results show that there is some alignment between the writing assignments in the national exam and the study materials, however not a high one. The printed study material has a higher alignment than the digital one. The results also show that there are similarities between the writing assignments in the printed and the digital study materials. They both focus a lot on a skills and genre discourse. However, there are a lot of differences. The printed study material contains a process discourse while the digital study material does not. The printed material also contains more hybrids containing a combination of writing discourses.

La thèse est construite en trois parties. La première partie est une biographie d’Ivan Wyschnegradsky (1893-1979) illustrée de larges extraits de son journal, qui raconte comment il vécut les grands évènements historiques, son départ clandestin de la Russie en 1920, sa participation aux grèves de 1936 et sa captivité à Compiègne sous l'occupation nazie. Les cahiers de ma vie et une partie importante de sa correspondance avec Bruce Mather, Boris de Schloezer et Marina Scriabine, fournissent des indications précieuses quant à la chronologie, la datation et la genèse de ses œuvres, l'influence de la musique de Scriabine et les relations avec le futurisme russe. La deuxième partie de la thèse analyse deux grands textes inédits de Wyschnegradsky, qui sont reproduits en annexe, le commentaire philosophique sur la journée de l'existence et la loi de la pansonorité, version de 1936. Ces textes permettent de construire une généalogie de la pansonorité, depuis l'histoire de la " conscience cosmique" telle qu'elle est présentée dans la journée de l'existence, jusqu'à l'élaboration du "principe pansonore". La troisième partie concerne l'étude du langage musical. Après l'analyse des théories par quartes superposées et des principes exposés dans le manuel d'harmonie à quarts de ton, nous montrons comment Wyschnegradsky aborde la micro-intervallité à travers la théorie des espaces non-octaviants, les problèmes de notation, la facture instrumentale et l'ultrachromatisme rythmique. L'influence de Wyschnegradsky sur le XXe siècle, ses relations avec les compositeurs impliques dans les musiques microtonales et l'émergence de la notion d'inharmonicite dans le champ microtonal fait l'objet du dernier chapitre.

Peut-on transposer au domaine de l'urbain ses analyses ? Si oui, en quoi contribuent-elles à rendre intelligible ce qui " travaille " les villes à l'ère de l'urbanisation planétaire ? Cette recherche propose une lecture illichienne de " l'entreprise-ville " et suggère des pistes pour sortir de l'impasse productiviste dans laquelle elle est engagée. Elle s'articule autour de deux axes : Premièrement, dans le contexte du paradigme économiciste de la rareté et du paradigme cybernétique des systèmes, la Ville a été substituée par une entreprise urbaine contre-productive : une anti-ville. In his work, Ivan Illich (1926-2002) makes a radical critique of “institutions” (the Church, schools, hospitals, transport, machines, etc.), alleging that at some stage in their development they become all counterproductive. Can these analyses be transposed to the urban domain? If so, how can they help to make what “shapes” cities intelligible in the age of global urbanisation? This research proposes an Illichian reading of “the business-city” and suggests ways to leave the productivist impasse it is now experiencing. It is structured around two axes : Firstly, in the context of the economic model of scarcity and of the cybernetic model of systems, the City has been replaced by a counterproductive urban business: an anti-city, in which Urbanism becomes iatrogenic. It is « the vast enclosure ». Secondly, Ivan Illich's ideas transposed to the habitable space significantly contribute towards nurturing a new model for leaving industrialism and reconstructing the territory through processes of reduction and reconduction. Abstract:
This thesis deals with the structural design and manufacture of special power wheelchair prototype in collaboration with company Brano. Remarkable feature of this wheelchair is the ability to pull its user to an upright position, offering the greater independence, self-sufficiency and medically positive impact on physical functions. The content of this thesis is devoted to a search of the current state of knowledge in the matter, structural analysis of complete wheelchair assembly with a detailed description of each component including the important calculations and analyzes, as well as a description of the wheelchair testing. The conclusion presents summarization of all the results in structural, technological and economic terms.

L’objet de cette thèse est d’exposer l’influence que le contact prolongé d’Ivan Tourguéniev avec la culture étrangère a pu produire sur l’évolution de son identité culturelle.Enraciné dans la Russie du début du XIXe siècle où il naquit et passa son enfance, Tourguéniev bénéficia d’une éducation « dans l’air du temps », c’est-à-dire réservant à l’élément étranger une place prépondérante. Au moment où l’identité culturelle initiale de Tourguéniev était en formation, la société russe en était, elle aussi, à ses premiers balbutiements vers la découverte de sa propre authenticité nationale. Plus tard, l’écrivain ressentira avec force le décalage existant entre sa propre identité multiculturelle et les désirs d’affirmation de « russité » de sa patrie d’origine. Sous l’impulsion des nombreux événements politiques et sociaux en Russie et en Europe au XIXe siècle, Tourguéniev fut amené à changer fréquemment de pays, optant en définitive pour un établissement complet de domicile en Europe, d’abord en Allemagne et ensuite en France, ce qui ne fit qu’exacerber, au fil du temps, la pluralité de son identité culturelle. Le propos de cette thèse est de suivre, pas à pas et au travers de ses écrits et ses œuvres, les modifications que subit l'identité culturelle d'Ivan Tourgueniev à différentes étapes de vie, à travers l’évolution de la figure de l’Autre et les fluctuations du sentiment d’appartenance éprouvé par l'écrivain
The purpose of this dissertation is to define the influence exerted by prolonged contacts with foreign cultures on Ivan Turgenev’s cultural identity. Turgenev was born and raised in early 19th century Russia, enjoying an education that was in line with the spirit of the time, where foreign culture and language held great importance. As Ivan Turgenev was building his initial cultural identity, Russian society as a whole had only just started gaining consciousness of its own national genuineness. Later in his life, the writer realized the extent of the gap between his own multicultural identity and his homeland’s wish to affirm its “Russianness”. As a consequence of the numerous political and social events that took place in 19th century Europe and Russia, Turgenev travelled extensively and finally chose to settle in Europe, first in Germany, then in France. The plurality of his cultural identity was profoundly deepened as a result.Throughout this dissertation and based on his writings, the variations in Turgenev’s image of the Others and in his Sense of Belonging, shall allow us to closely follow the changes in the writer’s cultural identity, step by step and at various stages in his life

The present dissertation seeks to grasp the relation between suffering and meaning in the Human condition in Dostoiévski s The Brothers Karamázov , with a particular emphasis on its significance to modern man as well as the purpose of finding a place for a possible contribution from the clinical practice of phenomenology. For that purpose I make use of the method of existential phenomenology in an effort to grasp the intentionality issues involved. In the first chapter I strive to understand Dostoiévski s work in the light of its Russian Orthodox sources, dealing with the authors who studied and commented it and concentrating in further detail on the reading of such categories as suffering, Christianity and Human condition as they appear in this masterpiece of Russian Literature. The Second Chapter is a descriptive compilation of the life of Ivan Karamázov (the main carachter of the book) followed by a phenomenological analysis of his personality and actions, whereby one is led to see how the failure of the notion of Man s sufficiency, which the carachter embodies, and his increasing alienation from the supernatural source of his being, is likely to tear him apart as he seeks to avoid the Human consequences of his passions. Finally, in Chapter 3, I endeavour, in the light of my prime subjects, i.e., suffering and meaning, to establish how Dostoiévski s thought, the main carachter of his book and modern man may be referred to each another, what leads me to the conclusion that the meaning of suffering resides not in suffering itself, but in Man s attitude towards it, be it one of confrontation or denial, acceptance or revolt. Although it in fact exists, is necessary and cannot be denied (denial of suffering is dangerous as it may lead to greater, infernal suffering), suffering is no drive to transformation apart from the diverse meanings which may be attributed to it. Nevertheless, for its acceptance and transformation to be operative, the supernatural aspect in the Human condition must be incorporated. Psycotherapy may contribute to this process of Man s self-revelation by facilitating the first step: not lying to one s self
Nesta dissertação buscamos compreender a relação entre sofrimento e sentido da condição humana, em que pudéssemos transpor a questão para o sofrimento do homem moderno, com a finalidade de encontrar um lugar de contribuição da clínica fenomenológica, em seu entendimento. Para tal, utilizamos o método da fenomenologia existencial de compreensão do fenômeno, de busca de compreensão de intencionalidade. No primeiro capítulo, buscamos a compreensão da ortodoxia e da obra dostoievskiana, através dos autores que trabalham estas questões, focando-nos mais detidamente na leitura do sofrimento, do cristianismo e da condição humana. O segundo capítulo foi uma compilação descritiva da vida de Ivan Karamázov e a subseqüente análise fenomenológica da personagem, quando pudemos testemunhar o fracasso da mentira de suficiência do homem, esquecido de sua sobrenatureza, desaguando em cisão e despedaçamento, no evitamento de suportar suas paixões. Por fim, trabalhamos a tessitura da discussão entre o pensamento dostoievskiano, a personagem na obra e o homem na modernidade, à luz do sofrimento e sentido. Após ter feito este percurso e concluído os resultados, podemos afirmar que o sentido do sofrimento está na atitude que temos diante dele, de enfrentamento ou negação, de aceitação ou revolta. O que nos transforma não é o sofrimento, mas o sentido que damos a ele. Mas, sem sombra de dúvidas, o sofrimento é necessário para que possamos dar sentido e nos transformar em pessoas melhores. O sofrimento existe, é necessário, e negá-lo é garantia de um sofrimento maior ainda, um sofrimento infernal. Portanto, para esta aceitação e transformação pelo sofrimento, o resgate da condição de sobrenatureza é imprescindível. A psicoterapia pode contribuir quando em seu processo de desvelamento o individuo dá seu primeiro passo: o de não mentir a si mesmo

Malgré l'abondante littérature critique sur Tourgueniev certains thèmes importants restent très faiblement étudiés. Ainsi la question de la transformation des motifs tourguenieviens traditionnels dans le roman « Terres vierges » n'a jamais été nettement posée. Cette question justifie une étude particulière. Dans le romanesque de Tourgueniev il y a certains thèmes qui en se transformant, passent de ses premiers romans à « Terres vierges ». Notamment le thème du héros et son environnement, le problème du lyrisme et de la satire, le rôle de la nature. A cela s'ajoute l'évolution des procédés psychologiques de l'écrivain. La notion du personnage est cardinale chez Tourgueniev. L'auteur ne donne presque jamais son avis ouvertement, mais il l'exprime d'une façon indirecte, par l'intermédiaire de quelqu'un ou de quelque chose, avant tout à travers le personnage. C'est pourquoi l'étude du personnage est excessivement importante pour la découverte de l'attitude de l'auteur, pour la compréhension de la conception idéologique de l'œuvre. La présence des traits communs des personnages, la similitude des fonctions qu'ils remplissent dans les romans, permettent de les classer en différents types et suivre leur évolution qui est très sensible dans le romanesque de Tourgueniev
In spite of the lengthy critical literature Turgenev’s works have inspired, it is to be noted that a few topics have very seldom been studied. For instance, the problem of the evolution to be found in the traditional Turgenevian themes recurrent through the novel "virgin lands", has never been clearly stated. That issue well deserves close attention. From Turgenev’s earliest novels to "virgin lands", one can trace various themes which, although they undergone slight alterations, nevertheless remain basically identical. Among others, we could mention the hero in his environment, lyricism and satire, or the part played by nature. Symmetrically, Turgenev’s process of characterization also has developed. The importance attached to characterization by Turgenev is paramount. The novelist's standpoint is hardly ever plainly stated, but indirectly voiced, most of the time through one of his characters. This is why the study of characterization in Turgenev’s works is of the highest importance if we are to grasp his opinions, and the ideological bases on which he laid his writings. The common features linking his characters, the similarities in the functions they fulfil in his novels, make it possible to classify them according to type and to follow their very appreciable evolution throughout Turgenev’s works

Att recensionsskrivande är ett vanligt förekommande inslag i svenskundervisning på alla stadier i svensk skola konstateras i flera studier om barns och ungdomars skrivande samt i en rapport från Skolinspektionen (2010:5). I tidigare forskning antyds ett antal problem i samband med recensionsskrivande, bland annat att begränsade handlingsreferat ofta dominerar i elevers recensioner. Sedan hösten 2011 gäller en ny läroplan för grundskolan och i kursplanerna för svenskämnet betonas undervisning om olika texttyper, något som även tidigare forskning lyft fram som väsentligt och som ligger i linje med den så kallade genrepedagogiken.Ytterligare en aspekt av betydelse för föreliggande studie, är den avgörande roll som läroböcker kan ha för hur undervisning gestaltas. Denna roll lyfts på olika sätt fram i tidigare forskning.Syftet med föreliggande studie är att jämföra tre läroböcker i svenska med avseende på vilka möjligheter dessa erbjuder elever i årskurs sex till nio att utveckla recensionskompetens.I studien jämförs läroböckerna i en komparativ analys med hjälp av Ivaničs (2004) diskursanalytiska ramverk. Även genrepedagogikens cirkelmodell fungerar i studien som ett analysinstrument.Studien visar att läroböcker ingår i olika diskursiva praktiker, vilka tycks relatera till olika faser i cirkelmodellen. Detta tycks spela en avgörande roll för vilka möjligheter till genrekompetens inom recensionsskrivande, i studien benämnt recensionskompetens, som erbjuds i respektive lärobok. I studien beskrivs även hur läroböckerna har en tydlig implicit lärarröst, som kan tänkas påverka hur undervisningen gestaltas och vilka möjligheter till recensionskompetens som erbjuds.I studien framkommer även att nuvarande och tidigare kursplaner för svenskämnet tycks ingå i olika diskursiva praktiker och att läroböckerna tycks vara relaterade till styrdokument. Även detta ses i studien som en faktor som kan påverka de möjligheter till recensionskompetens som elever erbjuds.

Abstract:
The aim of this study has been to examine which of Ivaničs discourses of writing and learning to write could be found in three popular textbooks for ages 8-9 in the subject Swedish, and which of these the books focused on the most. The study has focused on written tasks and texts that cover writing and have been analysed using Ivaničs framework in Discourses of writing and learning how to write. The analysis and results of the study has then been compared to results from research about the Swedish subject in the curriculum to see how the textbooks actually follow our current curriculum. That research was done by Caroline Liberg et al, and has been essential to reach the results, seeing as it directly connects with this study. By conducting this research, I have aimed to shine a light on what these textbooks actually contain regarding discourses of writing, and whether or not it corresponds with the current curriculum for Swedish.   The results have shown that writing tasks and other text that can manifest a discourse of writing in textbooks for the Swedish subject, ages 8-9, focuses mostly on the skills and genre discourses. It also excludes the discourse regarding a sociopolitical discourse completely. This tells us that even though all three examined textbooks contain elements of our current curriculum, not one of them follows everything in it. The results and analysis has also shown us that many interpretations of the curriculum exist, and that it is difficult to decode exactly how a textbook should follow it. To decide which parts of the curriculum that are vital to follow is also a difficult matter to determine from this textbook sample. As a result of this study I have also learned that the responsibility to decide which textbooks that are used and why, is up to the teacher, and that it demands a lot of her/him to make an informed decision.

My thesis investigates Ivan Kramskoi's well-known work Unknown Woman (1883). In reviewing the criticism concerning Unknown Woman written in the wake of the eleventh peredvizhniki exhibition in which it was first shown, Kramskoi's painting attracted praise, perplexity, and condemnation. One of the major interpretations (though not commonly discussed) was that this work was meant to allude to female sexuality or prostitution in Russian society. The purpose of my thesis is to reinstate the pertinence of this reading, one which has been obfuscated or ignored in the majority of ensuing twentieth and twenty-first century scholarship. The second purpose of this work is to explore some of the ambiguities and complexities inherent in this work in order to better understand some of the complexities facing modernizing Russian society. It is perhaps impossible to state Kramskoi's motivations for painting this work or his attitude towards his subject concretely, but as I will suggest, he experienced both attraction toward and apprehension of the sexuality of his subject. However, this anxiety was also combined with a desire to invoke recognition if not empathy for the plight of the individual prostitute, a desire which can be found in other artistic productions of the age. In addition to Kramskoi's motivations in creating this work, I look at the way this work indicates the social issues of late nineteenth-century Russia. This was a time where ideas of national identity, class, and gender roles were in flux due to the developments of modernity. Unknown Woman encapsulates the complexity of this social milieu, and I examine the largely overlooked elements of the woman's gaze, wardrobe and physical location in order to better understand the questions and persuasions that existed in this period of late nineteenth-century Russian modernity.

O presente trabalho buscou uma aproximação com a trajetória-obra de Ivan Illich entre os anos de 1926-1967. Esse recorte temporal obedece um caminho, que optamos por percorrer, para demonstrar uma característica fundamental do autor: sua produção escrita fortemente atrelada às situações concretas da vida. Esse engajamento de Ivan Illich, que produziu durante esses anos que analisamos ao menos dez textos importantes, foi o eixo estrutural da nossa dissertação. Tratamos de três aspectos simultâneos: lugar na cultura científica, sua trajetória e obra. O primeiro aspecto, aparece no primeiro capítulo na forma de uma análise de prefácios, feitos por intelectuais, para os livros do, ou sobre, Ivan Illich. O leitor encontrará elementos que ajudam na identificação da crítica illichiana. O segundo e terceiro aspectos foram analisados conjuntamente, ou seja, não separamos o autor de sua obra. Isso pode ser encontrado no segundo e terceiro capítulo. Trata-se de uma crítica a institucionalização na sua forma da escolarização da sociedade, na qual o pano de fundo desse processo é a Aliança para o Progresso. Mas também, trata da questão da linguagem como uma forma de crítica da modernidade industrial.
The present work sought an approximation with the trajectory-work of Ivan Illich between the years of 1926-1967. This temporal cut follows a path we have chosen to follow, to demonstrate a fundamental characteristic of the author: his written production strongly tied to the concrete situations of life. This engagement of Ivan Illich, who produced during those years that we analyzed at least ten important texts, was the structural axis of our dissertation. We deal with three simultaneous aspects: place in scientific culture, its trajectory and work. The first aspect appears in the first chapter in the form of an analysis of prefaces, made by intellectuals, for the books of, or about, Ivan Illich. The reader will find elements that help in identifying the Illichian critique. The second and third aspects were analyzed together, that is, we did not separate the author from his work. This can be found in the second and third chapters. It is a critique of institutionalization in its form of schooling of society, in which the background of this process is the Alliance for Progress. But it also deals with the question of language as a form of criticism of industrial modernity.

The Geografia de Alagoas (Geography of Alagoas) subject was introduced into the secondary syllabus as a result of determinations of the law of the Diretrizes e Bases da Educação Nacional in 1961 which was followed by similar state-level legislation. This decision was influenced by the national political and socioeconomic context which aimed at the modernisation of the country. Teaching was reorganised in order for it to play an important function towards the instruction of the society. Many teachers got involved with the teaching of both local and regional geography and that showed the need for school books which covered the geographic aspects of the state of Alagoas. This study analyses the book Geografia de Alagoas published by Ivan Fernandes Lima in 1965, based on studies of the hystory of school disciplines. Methods included literature review, interviews, analysis of documents in various sources, collections of the public libraries of the municipality of Maceió-AL, and the private collection of Ivan Fernandes Lima. Results identify the social place from which it was spoken about professor Ivan Fernandes Lima which provided us with a base to outline the trajectory of his scholarly output as well as about his social relations. The intellectual production of this author started with the publication of articles in the Jornal de Alagoas (a daily newspaper) in the 1960s. These papers influenced the writing of the book Geografia de Alagoas which was used as a school book and a university reference in the state of Alagoas.
A Geografia de Alagoas foi incluída no ensino de Geografia escolar a partir da normatização da Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação Nacional de 1961 com a criação das determinações da educação estadual voltadas para a regularmentação do currículo do ensino secundário. Haja vista, o contexto político e socioeconômico que se constituiu no país, visando à modernização, sendo estabelecida uma nova organização do ensino, almejando que a educação realizasse uma função importante na instrução da sociedade. Destaca-se a ação de professores com o ensino de Geografia regional/local e a necessidade de livro didático com abordagem do conteúdo sobre os aspectos geográficos alagoanos. A pesquisa teve como foco a análise do livro didático Geografia de Alagoas, por Ivan Fernandes Lima de 1965 com base nos estudos sobre a história das disciplinas escolares. Metodologicamente recorreram-se: a levantamento bibliográfico, análise documental em diversas fontes de pesquisas, acervo das bibliotecas públicas em Maceió - AL, acervo pessoal de Ivan Fernandes Lima e entrevistas. As conclusões indicam o lugar social de onde se falava sobre o professor Ivan Fernandes Lima, dando-nos suporte para apontar os traços da trajetória de suas produções e das relações sociais, cujo início da produção intelectual do autor se deu com as publicações no Jornal de Alagoas na década de 1960, que reverberou na produção do livro didático Geografia de Alagoas, para o ensino de Geografia escolar e para a Geografia acadêmica no Estado.
