Abstract:
Mesothelin (MSLN) is a cell surface glycoprotein normally expressed only on serosal surfaces, and not found in the parenchyma of vital organs. Many solid tumors also express MSLN, including mesothelioma and pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Due to this favorable expression profile, MSLN represents a viable target for directed anti-neoplastic therapies, such as recombinant immunotoxins (iToxs). Pre-clinical testing of MSLN-targeted iTox’s has yielded a strong body of evidence for activity against a number of solid tumors. This has led to multiple clinical trials, testing the safety and efficacy of the clinical leads SS1P and LMB-100. While promising clinical results have been observed, neutralizing anti-drug antibody (ADA) formation presents a major challenge to overcome in the therapeutic development process. Additionally, on-target, off-tumor toxicity from serositis and non-specific capillary leak syndrome (CLS) also limits the dose, and therefore, impact anti-tumor activity. This review summarizes existing pre-clinical and clinical data on MSLN-targeted iTox’s. In addition, we address the potential future directions of research to enhance the activity of these anti-tumor agents.

A new species of goatfish, Upeneus itoui, is described on the basis of 67 specimens collected from southern Japan at depths of less than 40 m. Upeneus itoui is most similar to the western Indian Ocean species, U. pori. The caudal-fin color pattern in fresh and preserved specimens of the two species is identical. However, U. itoui differs from U. pori in having less head and body depths, wider barbels, and a lower count of gill rakers.

Assessment 24, no. 7 (March 1, 2016): 885–95. http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/1073191116633752.

Abstract:
Information processing is typically evaluated using simple reaction time (SRT) and choice reaction time (CRT) paradigms in which a specific response is initiated following a given stimulus. The measurement of reaction time (RT) has evolved from monitoring the timing of mechanical switches to computerized paradigms. The proliferation of mobile devices with touch screens makes them a natural next technological approach to assess information processing. The aims of this study were to determine the validity and reliability of using of a mobile device (Apple iPad or iTouch) to accurately measure RT. Sixty healthy young adults completed SRT and CRT tasks using a traditional test platform and mobile platforms on two occasions. The SRT was similar across test modality: 300, 287, and 280 milliseconds (ms) for the traditional, iPad, and iTouch, respectively. The CRT was similar within mobile devices, though slightly faster on the traditional: 359, 408, and 384 ms for traditional, iPad, and iTouch, respectively. Intraclass correlation coefficients ranged from 0.79 to 0.85 for SRT and from 0.75 to 0.83 for CRT. The similarity and reliability of SRT across platforms and consistency of SRT and CRT across test conditions indicate that mobile devices provide the next generation of assessment platforms for information processing.

Abstract:
We investigate the origin of the trace (conformal) anomaly in the context of stochastic quantization. Based on the Langevin equation, we study the local Ward-Takahashi identities corresponding to the Weyl invariance and the general coordinate invariance. It is shown that the Ito's stochastic calculus essentially picks up the non-trivial Jacobian factor which appears in the path-integral measure. We also provide how to construct the Langevin equation which maintains the general coordinate invariance in consistent with the Ito's calculus.

Abstract:
The white noise calculus was initiated by T. Hida in 1970 in his Princeton University Mathematical Notes [3]. Recent development of the theory shows that the Laplacian plays an essential role in the analysis in question. Indeed, several kinds of Laplacians should be introduced depending on the choice of the class of white noise functionals to be analysed, as can be seen in [4], [13], [18] and so forth. Among others, we should like to emphasize the importance of the infinite dimensional Laplace-Beltrami operator, Volterra’s Laplacian and Lévy’s Laplacian (See [13], [18] and [20]).

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the first 15 minutes of ten initial Teletandem Oral Sessions (iTOS), which means the first virtual encounter among speakers of different languages who want to study the each other’s language. Our aim is to verify iTOS genre status within a telecollaborative learning environment. We understand genres as communicative events organized in standard structures used by members of a discourse community to achieve their communicative purposes (Swales, 1990) and assume that the teletandem context is composed of a specific community with shared objectives. A study of iTOS had first been proposed by Aranha (2014), who analyzed nine iTOS and identified some recurrence in their discoursal structure. Our data, ten iTOS, are part of a previous version of MulTeC (Multimodal Teletandem Corpus) (Aranha & Lopes, forthcoming) and participants are proficient in Portuguese and English. The video files were transcribed and the sessions were analyzed based on Aranha’s (2014) findings. We identified rhetorical organization for the sessions which was similar to Aranha’s, but varied depending on the learning scenarios, i.e. the learning context in which they occurred.

Abstract:
Objectives To demonstrate clinical efficacy in reducing the ocular symptoms of SAR using mometasone furoate nasal spray (MFNS). Methods A phase III, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, multi-center study compared the efficacy of MFNS 200 mcg QD, dosed in the morning (AM), for treatment of ocular symptoms associated with SAR. Subjects were at least 12 years old with at least a 2-year history of SAR. In daily diaries, subjects evaluated AM ocular symptom severity on a scale of 0 (none) to 3 (severe) on treatment Days 1 to 15. Co-primary endpoints included change from baseline in average instantaneous (AM) total nasal symptom score (sum of individual nasal symptom scores for congestion, rhinorrhea, sneezing, and itching) and instantaneous (AM) total ocular symptom score (iTOSS) (sum of individual eye symptom scores for itching/burning, tearing/watering, redness), Days 2 to 15. Results Subjects (429) with similar baseline characteristics and moderate-to-severe ocular symptoms received MFNS 200 mcg QD or placebo. MFNS 200 mcg QD demonstrated superiority over placebo in least squares mean changes from baseline in subject-rated, average AM iTOSS from Day 2 to 15 (−1.71 [−25.1%] and −1.37 [−20.1%], respectively; P equal to 0.026). MFNS was well tolerated. Conclusions MFNS 200 mcg QD demonstrated statistically significant improvements in AM iTOSS associated with SAR. These are the first prospective results demonstrating that MFNS significantly reduces ocular symptoms in subjects with SAR.

Abstract:
The results of some new research on a new class of triangular functions that unite the characteristics of the classical triangular functions are presented. Taking into consideration the great role played by triangular functions in geometry and physics, it is possible to expect that the new theory of the triangular functions will bring new results and interpretations in mathematics, biology, physics and cosmology. New traveling wave solutions of some nonlinear partial differential equations are obtained in a unified way. The main idea of this method is to express the solutions of these equations as a polynomial in the solution of the Riccati equation that satisfy the symmetrical triangular Fibonacci functions. We apply this method to the combined Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) and modified KdV (mKdV) equations, the generalized Kawahara equation, Ito’s 5th-order mKdV equation and Ito’s 7th-order mKdV equation.

In this paper, nonlinear systems subjected to external and parametric non-normal delta-correlated stochastic excitations are treated. A new interpretation of the stochastic differential calculus allows first a full explanation of the presence of the Wong-Zakai or Stratonovich correction terms in the Itoˆ’s differential rule. Then this rule is extended to take into account the non-normality of the input. The validity of this formulation is confirmed by experimental results obtained by Monte Carlo simulations.

Moments and mean crossing rates are determined for the response of linear systems subject to polynomial forms in Gauss-Markov processes. Differential equations describing the evolution in time of response moments are developed by the use of Itoˆ’s calculus. Estimators are obtained for mean crossing rates based on higher order moments and approximations of the distribution of the response. The method is applied to the analysis of a simple oscillator subject to the square of an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process.

Abstract:
Background and methods: Intrathecal opioids (ITOs) have been used for decades to control postoperative pain. Intrathecal opioid dosing is limited, however, by opioid-related side effects, most importantly respiratory depression. To overcome these limitations, we combined intrathecal morphine with a continuous intravenous (IV) postoperative naloxone infusion to control opioid-related side effects. The purpose of this study is to document the efficacy and safety of high-dose intrathecal morphine combined with postoperative naloxone infusion to provide postoperative analgesia after major surgery. After IRB approval, a retrospective chart analysis was performed on 35 patients who had a radical prostatectomy from 2004 to 2006. All patients received a single injection of ITOs before anesthesia, a typical general anesthestic, followed by naloxone infusion at 5 μg/kg/h started 1 hour post-ITOs and continued for 22 hours postoperatively. The following information was collected: patient age, height, weight, anesthesia technique/time, and dose of ITOs given. Postoperative pain relief was assessed for 48 hours using the Visual Analog Score (VAS) for pain (0, no pain; 10, worst pain), perioperative opioid use, NSAID consumption, and ability of patient to ambulate. The safety of this novel treatment was assessed with opioid-related side effects and vital signs. All data are reported as mean (SD).Results: Mean ITOs given were morphine 1.3 (0.3) mg combined with fentanyl 56 (9) μg. The intrathecal morphine dose ranged from 0.8 to 1.7 mg. The mean worst pain VAS in the first 12 hours postoperatively was only 1.0 (1.7). The first NSAID dose was given 6.6 (3.1) hours post-ITOs. The first opioid on the floor was given an average of 22.6 (14.5) hours post-ITOs. A mean of only 5.7 (12.3) morphine equivalents were required on postoperative day 1 (POD 1). On POD 2, the mean worst pain VAS was only 2.6 (2.2) with only 5.7 (6.2) morphine equivalents needed to provide pain relief. On POD 1, 25 patients required no additional opioids for their entire hospital stay. Overall, 11 of 35 patients did not require any additional postoperative opioids. Thirtyfour patients (97 percent) were able to ambulate in the first 12 hours postoperatively. No opioid-induced respiratory depression was observed. Opioid-related side effects (pruritus, nausea) were infrequent and minor. Conclusions: High-dose ITOs combined with postoperative IV naloxone infusion provided excellent analgesia for radical prostate surgery. IV naloxone infusion appeared to control opioid side effects without diminishing the analgesia. No serious adverse effects were noted.

Abstract:
The repurposed metaphor “floating worlds,” from Japanese woodblock prints, highlights political junctions when transcultural American and Japanese dance collide and reconfigure. The first “floating world” is an “Ethiopian Concert” presented by Commodore Matthew Perry's Japanese Olio Minstrels in celebration of The Treaty of Peace and Amity (1854). The second challenges nostalgic Western notions of an “Old Japan” through the aggressively westernized Tokyo School of Music, where modern dancer Michio Ito trained for an opera career. Third, a post–World War I Peace Festival in Washington, DC, which included Ito's “eccentric dances,” documents an early Japanese diaspora within mainstream America. The final “floating world” conversely locates transcultural America outside of the United States through Ito's “Spirit of ’76” spectacle, staged for Occupied Forces following his unjust deportation to Japan. I apply analytical concepts of transcultural historians to imagine a global past that is less recognized, but no less nuanced, than the global present.

Abstract:
In light of a recent paper, we revisit the Compton scale region and point out that in this region there is stochastic behavior which can be modeled by Ito’s method. All these lead to a QCD and quark-like behavior completely consistent with known empirical facts.
