Abstract:
Mesothelin (MSLN) is a cell surface glycoprotein normally expressed only on serosal surfaces, and not found in the parenchyma of vital organs. Many solid tumors also express MSLN, including mesothelioma and pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Due to this favorable expression profile, MSLN represents a viable target for directed anti-neoplastic therapies, such as recombinant immunotoxins (iToxs). Pre-clinical testing of MSLN-targeted iTox’s has yielded a strong body of evidence for activity against a number of solid tumors. This has led to multiple clinical trials, testing the safety and efficacy of the clinical leads SS1P and LMB-100. While promising clinical results have been observed, neutralizing anti-drug antibody (ADA) formation presents a major challenge to overcome in the therapeutic development process. Additionally, on-target, off-tumor toxicity from serositis and non-specific capillary leak syndrome (CLS) also limits the dose, and therefore, impact anti-tumor activity. This review summarizes existing pre-clinical and clinical data on MSLN-targeted iTox’s. In addition, we address the potential future directions of research to enhance the activity of these anti-tumor agents.

A new species of goatfish, Upeneus itoui, is described on the basis of 67 specimens collected from southern Japan at depths of less than 40 m. Upeneus itoui is most similar to the western Indian Ocean species, U. pori. The caudal-fin color pattern in fresh and preserved specimens of the two species is identical. However, U. itoui differs from U. pori in having less head and body depths, wider barbels, and a lower count of gill rakers.

One of the more challenging aspects of trying to integrate technology into the classroom is finding phenomenon-based activities that can be enriched by technology applications. This article describes a mathscience-technology activity combining students' collection of data with mathematical and scientific analysis that is enhanced by using the iPod Touch (iTouch). The activity focuses on measuring shadow lengths throughout the school year and then organizing and evaluating the data by using the Planets app on the iTouch. Although this particular lesson was created for fifth graders, it could be adapted for students in other grades as well.

Abstract:
The iTour Project is an empirical study of the design of online interactive animated tours (iTours), and establishes a knowledge base for technical communicators and new media designers working in this area. The key objectives of this research were to understand the features of effective iTours; to explore the processes and techniques of designing and testing effective iTours; and to establish new praxis in new media design for technical communication. Design artefacts resulted from six key activities including: (1) Sub-project 1- RMIT Multimedia Online documentation with basic animation; (2) Sub-project 2- Online @ RMIT Orientation with some iTour animation; (3) Third-party iTour analytical review to deconstruct iTours and determine key elements; (4) Sub-project 3- Online @ RMIT iTours; (5) iTour Guidelines; and (6) A second, more comprehensive third-party iTour analysis to test the Guidelines. The outcome of the research is encapsulated in a web site that binds the artefacts of design sub-projects with a set of Guidelines. These Guidelines form a conceptual, structural and operational framework for iTour designers, and draw on the knowledge established while designing and testing iTours, analysing third-party iTours, and researching comparative fields. These fields include technical communication; new media; web; usability design and testing; and, to a lesser extent, software design and testing. The Guidelines, in conjunction with the knowledge base, were developed to facilitate effective communication through iTours. Through this research, the design action case study was established as a hybrid research approach: design research and action research are blended; and knowledge is situated within, and derived from, a case study. In support of design research, the PDIOR design cycles have been specified and include these phases: plan; develop; implement; observe; and reflect. The PDIOR approach combines design research and action research in a cyclical mode to explore technical communication and new media activities. Finally, eleven principles for designing effective iTours emerged from this research project. Articulation of these principles, in addition to the Guidelines, contributes new knowledge in the field for technical communicators, new media designers and others, who wish to engage in iTour design.

Abstract:
In this doctoral thesis, first we prove the continuous semimartingale local time Lt is of bounded p-variation in the space variable in the classical sense for any p > 2 a.s., and based on this fact we define the integral of local time in the sense of Young integral, and in the sense of Lyons' rough path integral, so that we obtain the new extensions to Tanaka-Meyer's formula for more classes of f. We also give new conditions to two-parameter Young integral and extend Elworthy-Truman-Zhao's formula. In the final part we define a new integral, i.e. stochastic Lebesgue-Stieltjes integral and extend Tanaka-Meyer's formula to two dimensions.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This thesis aims to examine non-human agency in Elizabeth Jane Burnett’s The Grassling and Hiromi Itō’s Wild Grass on the Riverbank. Using a theoretical framework based on material ecocriticism, queer ecology and affect theory, the thesis explores how Burnett’s and Itō’s poetic narratives reconfigure the relationship between human and nonhuman in non-anthropocentric ways with the help of the irreal. The thesis discusses how the texts reimagine desire, moving from a Freudian view in which desire is repressed, to an understanding of desire as becoming as expressed by Deleuze. In the stories, humans metamorphose into plants, showing the interconnectedness of all matter and the importance of care exceeding species. These strands of the narratives contest anthropocentrism, and by extension also the heteropatriarchy to which it is related. Grief over traumatic experiences like family loss and migration in the stories are shown to be related to the loss of a planetary home as a result of climate change.

Abstract:
Ink-jet printing (IJP) using conductive inks, has gained the attention of scientistsand researchers during the past decades. Solar Cells (SCs), Radio FrequencyIdentication (RFID), E-papers and antennas are only some of the applicationsfor which IJP is being applied. IJP facilitates printing complex antenna structureswith a good resolution. The use of the IJP process is compatible with devicefabrication on unusual substrates such as paper, polymer lms (Polyethylenenaphthalate (PEN), Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), Polyimide (PI)), textiles, etc at low temperature. The aim of this study is to design and fabricate antennason paper substrates capable of operating at 2.4 GHz via printing technique.Simulation and experimental studies have been presented for microstrip patchantenna and dipole antenna using Itoh's balun.

Abstract:
The stationary response and asymptotic stability in probability of an articulated tower under random wave excitation are investigated. The articulated tower is modelled as a SDOF system having stiffness nonlinearity, damping nonlinearity and parametric excitation. Using a stochastic averaging procedure and Fokker-Plank-Kolomogorov equation (FPK), the probability density function of the stationary solution is obtained for random sea state represented by a P-M sea spectrum. The method involves a Van-Der-Pol transformation of the nonlinear equation of motion to convert it to the Ito’s stochastic differential equation with averaged drift and diffusion coefficients. The asymptotic stability in probability of the system is investigated by obtaining the averaged Ito’s equation for the Hamiltonian of the system. The asymptotic stability is examined approximately by investigating the asymptotic behaviour of the diffusion process Y(t) at its two boundaries Y = 0 and ∞. As an illustrative example, an articulated tower in a sea depth of 150 m is considered. The tower consists of hollow cylinder of varying diameter along the height, providing the required buoyancy of the system. Wave forces on the structure are calculated using Morrison’s equation. The stochastic response and the stability conditions are obtained for a sea state represented by P-M spectrum with 16m significant wave height. The results of the study indicate that the probability density of the stationary response obtained by the stochastic averaging procedure is in very good agreement with that obtained from digital simulation. Further, the articulated tower is found to be asymptotically stable under the parametric excitation arising due to hydrodynamic damping.

Abstract:
Abstract: Toyo Ito took on the mission of translating Le Corbusier’s mechanistic message for the electronic age at the beginning of the 1980s. He desired to go beyond the reference of the machine only as aesthetic inspiration, as well as to abolish the relationship between form and function, visible in the new digital era. Ito’s domestic experimentation, during the first half of the decade, finally led him to conceive an ‘architecture in simple lines.’ From the Dom-ino Project (1980) to the House in Magomezawa (1986), there is a gentle liberation of the Corbusian formality—based on a society of production—in favor of an architecture without form—in accordance with a society of consumption. The House in Hanakoganei (1983) is as milestone in this evolution, where Ito introduced a series of design techniques that he later implemented in Silver Hut (1984), Pao I (1985), and in the Magomezawa House. These three projects congeal the characteristics that define Ito’s architecture from the middle of the 1980s and, ultimately, give impulse to the ‘domestic adventure of the 80s in Japan,’ that turns its eye to the decorative arts. Toyo Ito’s goal, similar to that of his ‘alter ego’ Le Corbusier six decades earlier, was to design a ‘new architecture’ in harmony with the technological advances of the time, which led him to try the following design strategies: dematerialization, interior-exterior permeability, undefined function, provisionality, formal liberation of the structure, lightness, architecture as a dress, and anti-monumentality.
