Abstract:

This article is representative of the “culturalist” school of thought inpolitical science. Using a paradigm coined by Foucault, numerous facesof power in the international knowledge order are explored. Startingfrom the assumption that the burden of “cultural gate-keeping’’ restsheavily upon UNESCO’s shoulder, it is analyzed whether ISESCOcan count as a counter-power. Once the flaws of the comparativeframework that posits ISESCO as a “second UNESCO’ are shown,an Islamic methodology is used in order to see whether this Islamiccultural institution represents Islam or simulates it. Such an inquiryrequires a discursive analysis of two institutions that share a commoncultural goal using either the framework of internationalism or that ofthe Ummah.

Abstract:

ISESCO Educational Centre in Malaysia (ISESCO Malaysia), in collaboration with the Islamic Education Department of Ministry of Education, Malaysia, offers various annual language activities to improve the level of Arabic language usage among secondary school students in Malaysia. One of the languages activities organised by ISESCO Malaysia annually, is an Arabic Short Film Competition. It is noticeable that there are variety of Arabic language usage errors appeared in the videos presented, including those resulting from language interference effect. Some of these errors are often repeated by students, believing that it is a sound of Arabic language. This study therefore, conducted to examine the errors of language interference effect and its causes among Arabic learners in Malaysia’s secondary school. The study has followed the descriptive approach to analyse these errors. The study found that linguistic errors among Arabic students in Malaysian secondary schools resulted from language interference effect of their mother tongue; by literally translating it, following the culture and rules, as well as lack of knowledge of the rules of the language and culture of the Arabic language. This study proposed an appropriate action to solve the problems using educational approach.

The international seminar on Peace, Jihad & Conflict Resolution, jointlyorganized by AMSS, IIIT, and the Islamic Educational, Scientific andCultural Organization (ISESCO), was hosted by the Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding (CMCU), Georgetown University on November 2-3, 2002. The seminar’s goal was to bring a deeper understanding of the place andposition of religion in general, and Islam in particular, toward the dynamicconcepts of peace, jihad, political violence, and military conflict. The seminargot off to a lively start on Saturday morning with introductions presentedby Dr. Jamal Barzinji (vice president, IIIT). Welcoming remarks weremade by Dr. Ahmad S. Weld Abah (chairman, ISESCO Executive Council),Dr. Louay Safi (AMSS president), and Dr. John Esposito (CMCU director).The opening session was followed by an inspiring speech by Dr. Taha Jaberal-Alwani (president, Graduate School of Islamic and Social Sciences[GSISS]), on “Concepts between Islamic and Western Worldviews: Jihad asan Example.”Al-Alwani analyzed the meaning of peace, jihad, and conflict resolutionfrom an Islamic jurisprudential perspective by examining how these conceptsare governed by the values of tawhid (unity of God), tazkiah (purificationof humanity), and ‘imran (establishing a values-based civilization).He discussed how practicing and establishing peace is obligatory for all people,because Islam considers humanity to be one family. Since most ofIslam’s jurisprudential rules are based on peace, according to al-Alwani,“both peace and jihad have different levels, and each one should be fulfilledby individuals, family, and society.” He characterized jihad as: “There is noother concept that will match the meaning of peace in Islam except jihad,”and argued that “jihad is based on different levels: to struggle is the majormeaning of jihad, in order to elevate oneself to a higher level, they muststrive.” The concept of conflict resolution implies that many stages shouldbe applied and negotiated before resorting to war.Thirty-two papers were presented in eight consecutive panels duringthe 2-day seminar. The panelists approached the issues from theoretical perspectivesand sociopolitical experiences in order to overcome stereotypicaldiscussions and superficial impressions. On the first day, the following subthemeswere analyzed in four panels: “Jihad, War and Peace in the IslamicAuthoritative Texts,” “Positive Attitude toward the ‘Other’,” “Religion: ATool for Conflict Resolution,” and “Religious and Cultural Roots of Warand Peace.”These panels drew attention to the need of developing an authenticmethodology that deals objectively with religious texts and history. In thefirst panel, Dr. Jamal Badawi (St. Mary’s University, Canada) offered a newvision in his analysis of how some misunderstood verses and ahadith haveleft a negative impact upon the nature of Muslim and non-Muslim relations.He addressed such questions as: “Does Islam teach hate toward others?” ...

The first decade of the 15th century Hijrah is over. It saw the establishmentof the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) and was markedby the development of cooperation and collaboration between various Islamicorganizations and institutions around the world. abstract: The southern Appalachian region is a hotspot of ecological biodiversity that is under increasing threat from climate change and rapid population growth. We posit that informal science education is uniquely adapted to foster environmental stewardship in the region, but the current state of informal science education within the southern Appalachians is poorly understood. We reviewed current informal science education centers (ISECs), which we define as centers for science learning outside of structured curriculum ( n = 166). For each of these centers, we compiled information on geographical location, programs offered, and funding sources. We found large geographic gaps in ISEC coverage that often aligned with low-population, low-income counties. The most common program type in our dataset was field trips, followed by public programming, while research and virtual programming were the least often offered. ISECs that had funding from multiple organizations generally had the most diverse and robust programming.

Abstract:

The influence of hen layer density on the variability of the number of red blood cells, heterophiles and lymphocytes in the blood, the secretory activity of adrenal glands, estimated by the level of corti-costerone and cortisol, as well as the presence of interrelations between hormones and blood cells by calculating complex indices, were studied. Chickens, as the research object, were kept in cages, under conditions of standard layer density and increased by 1.5 and 2.0 times. We found that chickens adapt to an increase in layer density by one and a half times, pro-vided that egg production decreases to 33.33%; two times exceed of the regulatory requirements for laying does not correspond to the adaptive abilities of birds. Depending on the level of layer density excess (stress factor) in chicken blood, the concentration of corticosterone and cortisol increases, determining a decrease in the number of lymphocytes and an in-crease in heterophiles against the background of the preservation of red blood cells, reflecting the “energy price” of adaptation. Corticosterone af-fects the relationship of red blood cells with lymphocytes and heterophiles, determining the variability of the values of the indices reflecting the ratio of red blood cells and lymphocytes (ISEL), red blood cells and hetero-philes (ISEG), red blood cells, lymphocytes and corticosterone (ISELC), red blood cells, heterophiles and corticosterone (ISEGC) and the integral index of red blood cells-heterophiles-lymphocytes and corticosterone (IIEGLC).

Abstract:

Rotating parts of blood bank centrifuges are under heavy mechanical cyclic stresses due to their centrifugal loading conditions. Estimating the effective lifetime for these parts is very important for their application. Providing safety requirements for these components is mandatory in blood transfusion centers (BTC). Failure occurs in the engineering parts for both loading conditions of steady and cyclic. The fatigue phenomenon is the main reason for mechanical failures at least in 90 % of fractures during operation. In this paper, the effects of fatigue caused by centrifugal loadings on aluminum buckets produced by the Iranian Sina Ebtekar Company (ISECo) are investigated experimentally. In this study, 48 aluminum buckets are chosen from a set of 500 buckets. The numbers of service of the samples are accounted for a period of 7 months. Finite element analysis, FEM, is done for an aluminum bucket and the relevant maximum stresses due to the rotating loads of centrifugation are determined. Analyzing the numerical results and using the fatigue, lifetime diagrams according to the number of operating cycles is presented for the samples. A good consistency is observed between the experimental and numerical results. Based on the results, a new correlation is presented for estimating the aluminum bucket’s lifetime made by ISECO.

Abstract:

In Taiwan, mountainous areas account for approximately two-thirds of the total area. The steep terrain and concentrated rainfall during typhoons cause landslides, which pose a considerable threat to mountain settlements. Therefore, models for analyzing rainfall-induced landslide hazards are urgently required to ensure adequate land use in mountainous areas. In this study, focusing on Pingtung County in southern Taiwan, we developed a landslide hazard index (IRL) to land use. Using FORMOSA-2 and SPOT-5 satellite images, data were collected before and after four typhoons (one in 2009 and three in 2013). The ArcGIS random tree classifier was used for interpreting satellite images to explore surface changes and disasters, which were used to analyze slope disturbances. The product of the maximum 3-h rolling rainfall intensity and effective accumulated rainfall was used as a rainfall trigger index (IRT). Considering environmental and slope disturbance factors, an index of slope environmental strength potential (ISESP) was developed through logistic regression (LR). Landslide hazard to land use was estimated using IRT and ISESP. The average coefficient of agreement (Kappa) was approximately 0.71 (medium to high accuracy); the overall accuracy of slope environmental strength potential analysis was approximately 80.4%. At a constant ISESP, IRT increased with the increasing hazard potential of rainfall-induced landslides. Furthermore, IRT and ISESP were positively correlated with landslide occurrence. When large ISESP values occur (e.g., fragile environment and high land development intensity), small IRT values may induce landslides.

Abstract:

Objective To construct an individual socioeconomic status index (ISESI) with information available in the Population Information System of the Region of Valencia, Spain, and use it to analyse inequalities in a colorectal cancer screening programme (CRCSP). Methods Cross-sectional study of men and women aged between 50 and 75 at the time of the study (2020) that were selected from the target population of the Region of Valencia CRCSP. (study sample 1,150,684). First, a multiple correspondence analysis was performed to aggregate information from the Population Information System of the Region of Valencia into an ISESI. Second, data from the 2016 Region of Valencia Health Survey were used for validation, and finally the relationship between CRCSP participation and the ISESI was analysed by logistic regression models. Results The variables included in the index were nationality, employment status, disability, healthcare coverage, risk of vulnerability and family size. The most important categories for determining the highest socioeconomic status were being employed and not being at risk of social vulnerability, and being unemployed and at risk of social vulnerability for determining the lowest socioeconomic status. Index validation demonstrated internal and external coherence for measuring socioeconomic status. The relationship between CRCSP participation and the ISESI categorised by quartile (Q) showed that Q4 (the lowest socioeconomic status) was less likely to participate OR = 0.769 (0.757–0.782) than Q1 (the highest socioeconomic status), and the opposite was found for Q2 OR = 1.368 (1.347–1.390) and Q3 OR = 1.156 (1.137–1.175). Conclusions An ISESI was constructed and validated using Population Information System data and made it possible to evaluate inequalities in colorectal cancer screening.

Abstract:

Objetivo: Elaborar e analisar a composição físico-química e sensorial de um bolo funcional isento de lactose e sacarose. Métodos: Trata-se de uma pesquisa experimental com delineamento transversal de abordagem quantitativa. Para verificar aceitação se aplicou os testes de escala hedônica e intenção de compra com 118 indivíduos, de ambos os sexos e idade entre 15 a 87 anos. As análises da composição físico-química foram realizadas no laboratório de Bromatologia e Bioquímica de Alimentos do Departamento de Nutrição da Universidade Federal do Piauí. A Análise Descritiva Quantitativa foi processada por 6 assessores treinados. Os dados obtidos foram analisados por estatística com auxílio do software SPSS versão 17. O estudo foi aprovado por Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa Resultados: A formulação obteve boa aceitação e 102 assessores não treinados informaram que comprariam o produto. O bolo apresentou 38,21% de umidade, 1,79 % de teor de cinzas, 4,25 % de proteínas, 32,01% de lipídeos, 23,67% de carboidratos e 399,86 kcal/100g. Observou-se que os atributos sensoriais como aroma, sabor, textura, dureza, cor e aeração foram semelhantes aos bolos convencionais. Conclusão: Portanto, é possível desenvolver produtos com ótima aceitação, nutritivo e funcional, para atender necessidades de pacientes intolerantes à lactose e diabéticos.

Abstract:

A novel interlaminar elastic screw spacer technique was designed to maintain lumbar mobility in treating lumbar degenerative diseases. A validated finite element model of L4/5 was used to establish an ISES-1/2 model and an ISES-1/3 model based on different insertion points, a unilateral fixation model and a bilateral fixed model based on different fixation methods, and a Coflex-F model based on different implants. The elastic rods were used to fix screws. Under the same mechanical conditions, we compared the biomechanical characteristics to investigate the optimal entry point for ISES technology, demonstrate the effectiveness of unilateral fixation, and validate the feasibility of the ISES technique. Compared to ISES-1/3, the ISES-1/2 model had lower intradiscal pressure, facet cartilage stress, and posterior structural stress. Compared to the ISES-BF model, the ISES-UF model had lower intervertebral pressure, larger mobility, and smaller stress on the posterior structures. The ISES model had a similar intervertebral pressure and limitation of extension as the Coflex-F model. The ISES model retained greater mobility and reduced the stress on the facet cartilage and posterior structure compared with the Coflex-F model. Our study suggests that the ISES technique is a promising treatment of lumbar degenerative diseases, especially those with osteoporosis.

Este trabalho teve como objetivo verificar a qualidade microbiológica da pré-mistura de gelado de chocolate isento de lactose a base de farinha de inhame, sob tratamento a vácuo durante sessenta dias no Laboratório de Técnica Dietética da Faculdade Redentor. Os contaminantes microbiológicos analisados foram Salmonella spp/25g, Bacillus cereus, e coliformes a 45°/g. Os resultados obtidos mostraram ausência de Salmonella spp/25 e Bacillus cereus, entretanto a carga microbiana de coliformes a 45°, mesmo ocorrendo redução na amostra a vácuo, ultrapassou os limites estabelecidos pela RDC n° 12 de 2 de janeiro de 2001. Sendo assim, conclui-se que a embalagem a vácuo foi significante para a conservação do produto, sendo necessário apenas estabelecer medidas de controle que visam diminuir a contaminação inicial da pré-mistura por coliformes a 45°/g, para que o produto possa tornar seguro e pronto para o consumo.Palavras-chave: Salmonella, Bacillus cereus, coliformes fecais, isento de lactose.

A doença celíaca é uma intolerância permanente ao glúten, e este é encontrado em cereais como trigo, o centeio, a cevada e a aveia, causando a atrofia das vilosidades intestinais. O objetivo deste trabalho foi desenvolver diferentes formulações de bolo de cacau isento de glúten e verificar sua aceitabilidade. Trata-se de um estudo do tipo quantitativo, exploratório e descritivo. A matéria prima para a elaboração dos bolos foi adquirida no comércio local. Foram desenvolvidos três tipos de bolos de cacau, utilizando três tipos diferentes de farinhas isentas de glúten: farinha de banana verde, farinha de arroz e fubá de milho. Os bolos foram elaborados no Laboratório de Técnica Dietética do Centro Universitário Estácio do Ceará. As amostras foram submetidas à análise microbiológica para detecção de coliformes e Salmonela sp. Para a avaliação da aceitação do bolo foi realizado um teste sensorial avaliando os atributos de aparência, cor, aroma, sabor, textura e aceitação global com 60 provadores não treinados. Com relação à análise microbiológica, todas as amostras apresentaram ausências dos grupos de microrganismos pesquisados. Na análise sensorial as amostras que obtiveram melhor média de aceitação foram os bolos desenvolvidos com farinha de arroz e fubá de milho. A formulação elaborada com farinha de banana verde diferiu significativamente das outras duas amostras em relação aos atributos avaliados, excetuando-se a cor. Dessa forma, conclui-se que a utilização de farinhas sem glúten para o desenvolvimento de bolos de cacau é aceitável, necessitando de adequação dos parâmetros sensoriais para algumas amostras.

Com a intenção de minimizar a carência de produtos isentos de glúten e tendo em vista o crescente aumento de celíacos, a elaboração de produtos diferenciais a base de farinha de arroz e milho torna-se uma alternativa de consumo e comercialização. Assim, este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar os efeitos da adição de farinha de arroz e milho, e emulsificante nas características de qualidade (teste de cozimento, textura instrumental - firmeza e aceitabilidade) e físico-químicas (proteínas, lipídios, carboidratos, minerais e fibra alimentar) de formulações de macarrão, mediante o emprego de metodologia de planejamento de experimentos, fixando a concentração de ovos in natura (12%, m/m) e água (20%, v/m). A formulação com 40g de farinha de milho, 60g de farinha de arroz e 0,4g de SSL por 100g de farinha mista foi a que apresentou melhor resistência ao cozimento, menores perdas de sólidos na água de cocção (2,12% m/m), textura (30,40g seg-1) e aceitabilidade superior a 85 %. Além disso, o uso de farinha de arroz, associado à farinha de milho, proporciona fonte de minerais (152mg de K, 1,55mg de Fe, 46mg de Mg, 20mg de Ca por 100g), proteínas (~7%), carboidratos (52%) e fibras (~1%), importante suprimento nutricional para celíacos, por estes apresentarem perdas significativas destes nutrientes, devido à diarreia e à absorção restrita, característica da doença.

Abstract:

Wearable sensors based on solid-contact ion-selective electrodes (SC-ISEs) are currently attracting intensive attention in monitoring human health conditions through real-time and non-invasive analysis of ions in biological fluids. SC-ISEs have gone through a revolution with improvements in potential stability and reproducibility. The introduction of new transducing materials, the understanding of theoretical potentiometric responses, and wearable applications greatly facilitate SC-ISEs. We review recent advances in SC-ISEs including the response mechanism (redox capacitance and electric-double-layer capacitance mechanisms) and crucial solid transducer materials (conducting polymers, carbon and other nanomaterials) and applications in wearable sensors. At the end of the review we illustrate the existing challenges and prospects for future SC-ISEs. We expect this review to provide readers with a general picture of SC-ISEs and appeal to further establishing protocols for evaluating SC-ISEs and accelerating commercial wearable sensors for clinical diagnosis and family practice.

Intensive snowfall events (ISEs) have a profound impact on the society and economy in China during winter. Considering that the interaction between northerly cold advection and southerly water vapor transport (WVT) is generally an essential condition for the occurrence of ISEs in eastern China, this study investigates the different roles of anomalous southerly WVT and northerly cold advection during the ISEs in the North China (NC) and Yangtze River valley (YRV) regions based on a composite analysis of seventy ISE cases in NC and forty ISE cases in the YRV region from 1961 to 2014. The results indicate that the ISEs in NC are mainly associated with a significant pre-conditioning of water vapor over NC induced by southerly WVT anomalies over eastern China, whereas the ISEs in the YRV region are mainly associated with a strengthened Siberian High (SH) and strong northerly cold advection invading the YRV region. These results suggest a dominant role of anomalous southerly WVT in triggering the ISEs in NC and a dominant role of northerly cold advection in triggering the ISEs in the YRV region. The different roles of anomalous southerly WVT and northerly cold advection in the ISEs over the NC and YRV regions are largely attributed to the different winter climate in the NC and YRV regions—during winter, the NC (YRV) region is dominated by cold and dry (relatively warm and moist) air flow and hence southerly WVT (northerly cold advection) is the key factor for triggering the ISEs in NC (the YRV region).

Introdução: Os Medicamentos Isentos de Prescrição (MIPs) foram aprovados pelas autoridades sanitárias para tratar sintomas menores ou autolimitados, sendo comercializados nos autos serviços nas farmácias/drogarias e dispensados sem a apresentação da prescrição, nesse cenário integra-se o cuidado farmacêutico, como uma ferramenta provedora de saúde e orientação quanto ao uso correto e discriminado dos MIPs, uma vez que esse artigo tem como objetivo sintetizar evidências sobre a importância do cuidado farmacêutico na utilização dos MIPs, visando à segurança do paciente. Métodos: Revisão Integrativa e síntese narrativa, tendo como questão norteadora a existência de evidências sobre o cuidado farmacêutico na utilização dos MIPs, apresentando como desfechos a diminuição do uso indiscriminado dos MIPs mediante as orientações inerentes ao cuidado farmacêutico e a redução dos agravos a saúde provocados pelo uso dos MIPs de maneira errônea. O recorte temporal foi de 2011 a 2021. Buscou-se estudos publicados nas bases Cochrane Library, Epistemonikos, Health Evidence, Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde e Google Scholar. Resultados e discussão: estudos demonstram que o uso indiscriminado dos MIPs é elevadíssimo, podendo ocasionar uma séria de agravos a saúde e destacam ainda que é indispensável as informações referentes ao uso correto dos MIPs, dentre os principais riscos ocasionados pelo uso indiscriminado dos MIPs destaca-se a sobrecarga causada ao fígado, rins e pulmões; infecções de pele e sangramentos estomacais.Conclusão: Há evidências de que o cuidado farmacêutico proporciona a melhoria da adesão a terapia medicamentosa e redução dos problemas relacionados ao uso indiscriminado dos MIPs, porém devido ao fácil acesso, esses medicamentos ainda são usados em larga escala.

Abstract:

The possibility of voltammetric ion sensing is demonstrated, for the first time, for ion-selective electrodes (ISEs) containing an internal aqueous solution. ISEs selective to calcium, lithium and potassium ions are used as model systems. The internal solution of the ISEs contains a chloride salt of the respective cation and a ferrocenemethanol or ferrocyanide/ferricyanide redox couple. A platinum wire is used as the internal reference electrode. It is shown, theoretically and experimentally, that the dependence of oxidation and reduction peak potentials on the sample composition obeys the Nernst law, while the peak currents virtually do not depend on the sample composition. Thus, the electrode behavior is similar to that reported by Bakker’s group for solid contact ISEs with ultra-thin membranes (200–300 nm). It is shown that the use of classical ISEs with relatively thick membranes (100–300 µm) and internal aqueous solution allows for the sensor lifetime of about one month. It is also shown that use of a suitable background electrolyte allows for improvement of the detection limits in voltammetric measurements with ISEs.

Background: Anti-thymocyte globulin (ATG) serotherapy for graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis in allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is frequently associated with infusional side-effects (ISEs) including fever, tachycardia, respiratory distress, and hypotension/shock. Although this constellation closely resembles cytokine release syndrome, the mechanism behind ATG ISEs is poorly understood. The aim of this study was to characterize the frequency and severity of ATG ISEs, and determine the association of ISEs with cytokine levels and clinical outcomes. Methods: This study included 118 adult HCT recipients receiving myeloablative conditioning including fludarabine, busulfan, low-dose total body irradiation, and 4.5mg/kg ATG (0.5mg/kg on day -2 and 2mg/kg on days -1 and 0). Patient electronic medical records were retrospectively reviewed for clinical data collection. ISE were classified as thermal (fever/rigors), respiratory (tachypnea/hypoxemia/increased O 2 supplementation), tachycardia, or circulatory (hypotension/fluid resuscitation requirement). ISEs were further characterized into mild or severe (e.g., mild tachycardia = 105-120bpm, severe ≥120bpm). Serum levels of 31 cytokines were determined pre- and post-1 st ATG infusion in all patients (and up to 13 timepoints in select patients) using Luminex. Cox and Fine-Gray regression were used to determine the association of ISEs with clinical outcomes including grade 2-4 acute GVHD (aGVHD), moderate-severe chronic GVHD (cGVHD), cumulative incidence of relapse (CIR), and overall survival (OS). Results: At least one ISE occurred in 74% (87/118) of patients, with a maximum severity of mild in 56 (47%) and severe in 31 (26%). Patients experienced an average of 1.4 ISEs (median 1), most commonly tachycardia (57%) and thermal (50%), while respiratory (26%) and circulatory (7%) ISEs were less frequent. ISE frequency was 62%, 60%, and 35% after the 1 st-3 rd ATG infusions, respectively, with the median time from infusion to first ISE being ~4.5 hours. Compared to pre-infusion levels, there was a >1-fold change in 11/34 cytokines (all P<0.001) [Table 1]. Of greatest interest was IL-6, which demonstrated a progressive increase in median levels between patients with no vs. mild vs. severe ISEs (P<0.05). Severe ISEs were associated with a lower incidence of grade 2-4 aGVHD (SHR=0.12, P=0.032), but not with any other outcomes. Patient age, sex, primary disease, or pre-infusion peripheral blood cell counts (leukocytes, lymphocytes, neutrophils, and monocytes) did not appear to influence ISE frequency or severity. Conclusion: ISEs occur in the majority of ATG recipients, with one-fourth experiencing severe ISEs. The concomitant rise in serum cytokine levels (particularly IL-6) suggests that anti-cytokine antibodies (e.g., tocilizumab) may assist in the prevention or treatment of ISEs, however, the impact this may have on outcomes is unclear and warrants investigation in upcoming clinical studies.

With the rapid development of global trade, a large number of goods and resources are imported and exported via seaports. Multiple thermal loads and renewable energy merge into seaports, making the energy supply and demand structure increasingly complex. The traditional seaport becomes an integrated seaport energy system (ISES). Due to the complicated energy interaction of cooling, heating, electricity, and gas subsystems, the ISES urgently require reliable and secure operation. Hence, this paper proposes a new reliability assessment method for the ISES that considers thermal inertia. Firstly, the operational structure of the ISES is established considering multi-energy coupling relationships. Then, a two-stage optimal load curtailment model is constructed with multiple thermal inertias. In addition, the reliability assessment method for the ISES is proposed based on the sequential Monte Carlo simulation method. Simulations are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

O desenvolvimento de três séruns de vitamina C em veículo isento de água e os testes de estabilidade preliminares constituem uma investigação essencial no campo da cosmética e cuidados com a pele. Cada sérum foi meticulosamente formulado, considerando concentração de vitamina C, ingredientes ativos e estabilizadores, com atenção especial à solubilidade e características organolépticas. Testes de estabilidade sob condições de estresse, incluindo variações de temperatura, foram conduzidos para avaliar a degradação química ao longo do tempo e a resistência a fatores adversos. Os resultados preliminares apontam para a eficácia das formulações, destacando-se aspectos como resistência à oxidação e estabilidade em temperaturas elevadas. A escolha de um veículo isento de água e a implementação de medidas como embalagem hermética visam preservar a integridade da vitamina C. A avaliação continuada ao longo de 30 dias forneceu uma visão abrangente da estabilidade dessas formulações, garantindo sua eficácia e qualidade ao longo do tempo. Esse estudo visa contribuir para o avanço na formulação de produtos cosméticos de alta qualidade, oferecendo opções de cuidados com a pele que se destacam pela estabilidade e eficácia da vitamina C em ambientes desafiadores.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the role of financial governance practices in influencing both financial management and Islamic work ethic practices to affect Islamic social enterprises (ISEs) accountability. Design/methodology/approach Questionnaires were administered to financial officers of 102 Malaysian ISEs. Data was analysed using Smart-PLS to examine the relationships between financial management, Islamic work ethic, financial governance and accountability. Findings Results of this study indicate direct relationship only exist between Islamic work ethic and accountability. The relationship between financial management and accountability are indirect through financial governance. Hence, the data proves that financial governance has a mediating role on both the relationships between financial management and Islamic work ethic with the accountability of the ISEs. Research limitations/implications The study has highlighted the greater role of financial management, Islamic work ethic and financial governance practices over accountability to achieve public trust, especially for Malaysian ISEs. Practical implications ISEs need to have good financial governance practices besides financial management and Islamic work ethic practices to achieve good accountability. Originality/value The study contributes to the field of management and social accounting by providing empirical evidence on the ISEs practices specifically on financial management, Islamic work ethic, financial governance and accountability. This framework thus presents amongst the first attempts in studying accountability issues in ISEs.

Gold electrode surface was modified by deposition of two layers: electrosynthesized PEDOT:PSS forming an intermediate layer, and ion-selective membrane. The developed ISEs were characterized by a wide linear range and sensitivity consistent with the Nernst model. The entire MP-ISEs are characterized by satisfactory metrological parameters demonstrating their applicability in biomedical research, in particular in measurements concerning determination of ionic profiles of saliva. Saliva samples of 18 volunteers aged from 20 to 26 participating in a month experiment had been daily collected and investigated using the MP-ISEs assigned individually to each person. Personalized profiles of ions (ionograms) in saliva, such as Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl−, SCN−, and H+, were obtained.

Abstract:

This study compares stakeholder and management perspectives on accountability practices in Malaysian Islamic Social Enterprises (ISEs). Two sets of questionnaires were used in the survey for this study. The first set was answered randomly by 100 ISE stakeholders, and the second set was answered by the management from 102 Malaysian ISEs. The findings showed that both ISE stakeholders and ISE management have mixed agreement for all six proposed accountability dimensions. Based on this result, Malaysian ISEs need to improve their accountability practices, particularly with regard to input, output and procedures. The accountability measurement proposed in this study could also be used by other ISEs as indicators to evaluate their accountability practices.

Abstract:

Based on Islamic social enterprise (ISE) concept which is a combination of both social and economic objectives embedded with Islamic principles and values, this study aims to classify ISE based on economic sectors namely public, private and non-profit sectors. In addition, eight organisations that represent ISEs in Malaysia are also being discussed in order to support the classification of ISE based on economic sectors. In order to examine these eight ISEs, this study reviews professional documents, online information and comprehensive literature to analyse selected ISEs in Malaysia. Based on findings, this study concludes that ISEs in Malaysia can be classified based on all three economic sectors identified. Therefore, this study contributes to the body of knowledge as the first study made in examining and exploring classification of ISEs based on economic sectors specifically within Malaysia context.
