Abstract:
Purpose Autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation, or autotransplantation, is effective in light-chain amyloidosis (AL), but it is associated with a high risk of early mortality (EM). In a multicenter randomized comparison against oral chemotherapy, autotransplantation was associated with 24% EM. We analyzed trends in outcomes after autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation for AL in North America. Patients and Methods Between 1995 and 2012, 1,536 patients with AL who underwent autotransplantation at 134 centers were identified in the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research database. EM and overall survival (OS) were analyzed in three time cohorts: 1995 to 2000 (n = 140), 2001 to 2006 (n = 596), and 2007 to 2012 (n = 800). Hematologic and renal responses and factors associated with EM, relapse and/or progression, progression-free survival and OS were analyzed in more recent subgroups from 2001 to 2006 (n = 197) and from 2007 to 2012 (n = 157). Results Mortality at 30 and 100 days progressively declined over successive time periods from 11% and 20%, respectively, in 1995 to 2000 to 5% and 11%, respectively, in 2001 to 2006, and to 3% and 5%, respectively, in 2007 to 2012. Correspondingly, 5-year OS improved from 55% in 1995 to 2000 to 61% in 2001 to 2006 and to 77% in 2007 to 2012. Hematologic response to transplantation improved in the latest cohort. Renal response rate was 32%. Centers performing more than four AL transplantations per year had superior survival outcomes. In the multivariable analysis, cardiac AL was associated with high EM and inferior progression-free survival and OS. Autotransplantation in 2007 to 2012 and use of higher dosages of melphalan were associated with a lowered relapse risk. A Karnofsky score less than 80 and creatinine levels 2 mg/m2 or greater were associated with worsened OS. Conclusion Post-transplantation survival in AL has improved, with a dramatic reduction in early post-transplantation mortality and excellent 5-year survival. The risk-benefit ratio for autotransplantation has changed, and randomized comparison with nontransplantation approaches is again warranted.

Abstract:
In 1997, a forty-three years old woman was diagnosed with CML and treated with alfa-Interferon, achieving complete haematological response (CHR). Three years later, patient was switched to hydroxiurea due to thyroid toxicity. For logistic reasons, therapy with imatinib 400 mg/die was initiated only in 2003, obtaining complete cytogenetic response (CCyR) and suboptimal molecular response in twelve months. CCyR and CHR were then lost three years later. Doubling imatinib dose to 800 mg/die gave no positive results. Mutational analysis performed in September 2007 showed F317L point mutation of the Bcr-Abl kinase domain. In October 2007 dasatinib was started and in April 2008 CCyR was reached with suboptimal molecular response. In March 2009 Bcr-Abl transcript progressively increased, and in August 2009 cytogenetic analysis showed loss of CCyR. Therapy with nilotinib 800 mg/die was started, and in October 2009 the patient obtained complete molecular response (CMR). Bcr-Abl kinase-domain point mutations, acquired during first line therapy, are a common cause of resistance to tyrosine kinase inhibitors. While several Bcr-Abl mutations have been identified, involvement of codon 317 has been reported in the literature following treatment with imatinib and dasatinib.

Abstract: Plastic Section Modulus of a section is the first moment of the cross sectional area about an axis which divides the sectional area into two equal halves. In this paper an attempt has been made to calculate and verify the Zpz values of tapered flange I and C Sections. I-Section has been divided into a total of 13 component areas and C-Section into 7 component areas. The area of each component is calculated and the position of centroid of each component area is identified and used in the calculation of the Plastic Section Modulus of the cross section about Z-Z axis. Eleven I-sections and One C-section Zpz values are found to differ from the values given in the IS 800 : 2007[2] by more than 100 mm3 , i.e., 0.1 cm3 and are reported here. These verifications gain significance due to the fact that, in case of four I-sections, the difference is found to be more than 10000 mm3 , i.e., 10cm3

Here we report a case of a man affected by metastatic GIST since march 2007. His oncologic history began in 2006 when he was submitted to ileal resection and diagnosis of abdominal GIST was made. He was free of disease at radiologic controls until march 2007, when peritoneal nodules were shown. He started imatinib as first line therapy at standard dose of 400 mg/day and he reached a partial response at 6 months according to Response Evaluation Criteria In Solid Tumors (RECIST). After 24 months he performed CT scan that showed progression disease. For this reason he increased imatinib dose to 800 mg/day. Imatinib was safely administered and radiologic analysis performed at 3 and 6 months demonstrated stable disease according to RECIST. The patient is continuing oral therapy with imatinib at 800 mg/day and the disease is still stable.

<p>Σκοπός της παρούσας εργασίας είναι η διερεύνηση των δαπανών για την δευτεροβάθμια εκπαίδευση στις αρχές του 21<sup>ου</sup> αιώνα των χωρών που ανήκουν στην Ευρωζώνη, μέσω της επισκόπησης ευρημάτων εμπειρικών μελετών. Ειδικότερα, πραγματοποιούνται διακρατικές συγκρίσεις και εξετάζεται η θέση της Ελλάδας σε σχέση με τις υπόλοιπες χώρες της Ευρωζώνης. Από τα ευρήματα της έρευνας προέκυψαν οι παρακάτω γενικές διαπιστώσεις – συμπεράσματα: Το 2005 η Ελλάδα βρίσκεται στις τελευταίες θέσεις κατάταξης ανάμεσα στις χώρες τις Ευρωζώνης όσον αφορά στις δημόσιες δαπάνες για δευτεροβάθμια εκπαίδευση ως ποσοστό του Α.Ε.Π. (Ελλάδα: 1,4%, μ.ο. Ευρωζώνης: 2,2%), ενώ τις πρώτες θέσεις καταλαμβάνουν η Γαλλία (2,7%), το Βέλγιο (2,6%) και η Αυστρία (2,5%). Το 2007, η Ελλάδα βρίσκεται επίσης στις τελευταίες θέσεις κατάταξης ανάμεσα στις χώρες της Ευρωζώνης σε ότι αφορά τις δημόσιες δαπάνες για την δευτεροβάθμια εκπαίδευση ως ποσοστό των συνολικών δημόσιων εκπαιδευτικών δαπανών (Ελλάδα: 38%, μ.ο. Ευρωζώνης: 42,9%), ενώ στις πρώτες θέσεις βρίσκονται η Γερμανία (47,1%), η Αυστρία (46,3%) και η Γαλλία (45,3%). Τέλος, το 2005, η Ελλάδα βρίσκεται στη πρώτη θέση κατάταξης ανάμεσα στις χώρες της Ευρωζώνης όσον αφορά στις δαπάνες ανά μαθητή για την δευτεροβάθμια εκπαίδευση ως ποσοστό του κατά κεφαλήν Α.Ε.Π. β-phase (Bi2O3)1-x(Dy2O3)xsystem with tetragonal structure is synthesized for0.01<x<0.10molar doping. Unit cell parameters increased with increasing the doping. We have studied the dependence of total electrical conductvity on temperature, doping concentration ofβ-phase systems. The phase transition which manifests itself by the jump in the conductivity curve was also verified by DTA and both measurements are rather compatible. The electrical conductivity curves ofβ-phase structure revealed regular increase in the form of an Arrhenius curve. The activation energies are calculated from these graphs.Bi2O3-basedDy2O3doped ceramics show ionic oxygen conductivity. The conductivity increased as the doping concentration increased. The highest value of conductivity is 0.006 0.006ohm-1cm-1(600∘C)for theβ-phase (Bi2O3)0.91(Dy2O3)0.09(800∘C). The sample with the highest conductivity is (Bi2O3)0.91(Dy2O3)0.09(800∘C)binary system where 1.450 ohm−1cm−1(745∘C).

AbstractStakes at 2 km intervals were installed in January 1997 and remeasured in February 1998, January 1999, January 2005 and during the 2007/08 austral summer along a 1248 km traverse route from Zhongshan station to Dome A, East Antarctica. Based on topographical parameters, meteorological features and the records of ∼650 stakes and six stake arrays, the route is divided into five zones. We find that the snow accumulation rate decreases with increasing altitude as one progresses inland, except in the zone 800–1128 km from the coast, where the average annual accumulation rate is higher than in the zone 524–800 km from the coast. The Dome A zone (1128–1248 km) has the lowest accumulation rate (35 kg m−2 a−1, 2005–08) due to having the highest elevation and being furthest from the coast. The surface mass balance in the region 202–1128 km from the coast exhibits no temporal change from 1999–2005 to 2005–08, but there is a change in the accumulation distribution. The zone from 202 to 524 km shows a decrease in surface mass balance from 84 kg m−2 a−1 in 1999–2005 to 67 kg m−2 a−1 in 2005–08, while the zone between 800 and 1128 km shows an increase from 67 kg m−2 a−1 in 1999–2005 to 75 kg m−2 a−1 in 2005–08.

Abstract: Conventional steel frames are low rise steel frames with roofing systems of truss and roof coverings. Standard hot rolled sections are used for truss elements which are usually much heavier than what is actually required as per the design. Pre– Engineered steel frames are the steel frames in which excess steel is tapered as per the bending moment requirements. In present study, conventional (pratt type) steel roof truss and pre-engineered (portal type) steel roof frame with crane load is considered for an industrial warehouse construction located in Davangere city. 2D Modelling of both conventional and pre-engineered steel frame with crane load is done using STAAD Pro. software. Both the steel frames are subjected to different combinations of Dead load (DL), Live load(LL), Crane Load(CL) and Wind load(WL) as per IS 800 (2007) codal provisions. For the factored bending moments and shear force, referring IS 800 (2007) codal provisions, crane gantry girder is designed as a laterally unsupported member having a combination of I and channel sections. The members of both conventional and pre-engineered steel frames with crane load are designed for the worst load combination as per IS 800(2007) codal provisions. It is concluded that about 25% reduction in quantity of steel can be achieved by choosing pre-engineered steel frame than the conventional steel frame.

يتناول هذا البحث دراسة وصفية تحليلية لمدخلات ومخرجات الشركة العامة للتجهيزات الزراعية للمدة 2004 – 2019 , من اصول ومصروفات وايرادات وارباح معتمدا على البيانات التي تصدرها الشركة من اقسام التخطيط , الحسابات , التسويق , التجارية , الادارية , اضافة الى تقارير ديوان الرقابة المالية, كذلك المقابلات التي اجريت من قبل الباحث مع الجهات المعنية والاشخاص ذوي العلاقة .من خلال النشاط التجاري حققت الشركة العامة للتجهيزات الزراعية ارباحا صافية طيلة مدة الدراسة بلغ مجموعها 614942302104 دينار عراقي (ستمائة واربعة عشر مليار وتسمعائة واثان واربعون مليونا وثلاثمائة واثنان الفا ومائة واربعة دينار عراقي) , كان اعلى هامش ربح عام 2006 حيث بلغ 113045918223 دينار عراقي وباعلى نسبة تطور في الربح مع سنة الاساس بلغ 329,027 % عن سنة الاساس ,فيما عانت الشركة من عجز قدره 10625860280 دينار عراقي عام 2015 وكانت في العام ذاته ادنى نسبة تطور للربح عن سنة الاساس 2004 بمقدار 140,327 - % , اما اعلى هامش لمجمل الربح فقد بلغ اعلى نسبة له في العام 2010 بواقع 59,26% واقل نسبة له كانت في العام 2015 بواقع 8,406 - %, ولو انتقلنا الى العائد على الاصول فقد كانت اعلى نسبة له في العام 2005 بواقع 12,67 % وبمعدل تطور بلغ 341,74 % فيما شهد العام 2015 اسوأ نسبة بواقع 0,84 - % وبمعدل تطور مع سنة الاساس انخفض الى 129,217 % , وبالنسبة للعائد على حقوق الملكية فايضا بلغ اعلى نسبة له في العام 2005 بواقع 105,774 % فيما انخفض الى اقل قيمة في العام 2015 بواقع 11,128 - % .فيما كانت اجمالي ايرادات النشاط الجاري للسنوات مدار البحث 2456970276934 دينار بلغت اعلى قيمة له في العام 2019 بواقع 292319780523 دينار بنسبة تطور عن سنة الاساس بلغت 195,8 % اما ادنى قيمة لتلك الايرادات فكانت في العام 2014 حيث بلغت 78271387483 دينار بسنبة تطور عن سنة الاساس 2004 بلغت 20,8 - % . بلغت اجمالي اصول الشركة اعلى قيمة لها في العام 2018 بواقع 1480395193331 دينار فيما كانت اجمالي الاصول عند ادنى قيمة لها في العام 2005 بواقع 782569009819 دينار .وفيما يخص معدل دوران المخزون فان اعلى معدل شهده العام 2006 بواقع 2,6 قابله اقل متوسط مدة احتفاظ بالمخزون بواقع 144 يوم اما اقل معدل دوران فكان في العام 2018 بواقع 0,45 قابله اعلى متوسط مدة احتفاظ بالمخزون مقداره 800 يوم . اما متوسط فترة التحصيل فقد كان افضل مؤشر له في العام 2006 بواقع 659 يوم اما الاضعف فقد كان في العام 2017 بواقع 1825 يوم . ولو عرجنا على معدل دوران الاصول الثابتة فقد حقق اعلى نسبة له في العام 2005 بواقع 79,757 اما اقل نسبة فقد كانت في العام 2014 بواقع 5,523 . اما معدل دوران اجمالي الاصول فقد كانت اعلى نسبة له في العام 2006 بواقع 0,25 وشهد العام 2014 اقل معدل دوران لتلك الاصول بواقع 0,067 .وعند المرور بمؤشرات نسب السيولة نجد ان الشركة وصلت لاعلى نسبة تداول في العام 2007 بواقع 1,16 فيما كانت النسبة الاقل في العام 2004 بواقع 1,065 , وفيما يخص نسب السيولة السريعة فقد حققت الشركة اعلى نسبة لها في العام 2011 بواقع 1,03 بينما وصلت هذه النسبة لادنى مستوى لها في العام 2016 بواقع 0,782 .واخيرا كانت لنسب المديونية حصة من هذا التحليل حيث بلغت الشركة اعلى نسبة لها في العام 2004 بواقع 0,937 اما افضل مؤشر لها كان في العام 2007 بواقع 0,86 , وبخصوص نسب المديونية الى حقوق الملكية فقد وصلت الى اعلى قيمة لها في العام 2004 ايضا بواقع 14,821 وكذلك حققت اقل قيمة لها في العام 2007 بواقع 6,097 .

Abstract:
We reported a case report of a female patient with chronic myeloid leukemia who was treated with nilotinib after failure to imatinib, nilotinib, dasatinib. The patient was diagnosed in 2001 and treated with imatinib, but complete cytogenetic response (CCyR) and complete hematologic response (CHR) were lost four years later. Doubling imatinib dose to 800 mg/die gave no positive results. The patient was enrolled in clinical trial with nilotinib, but mutational analysis performed after two months showed Y253H point mutation (no nilotinib sensitive). In April 2007 dasatinib was started and CCyR and major molecular response (MMolR) was reached. In May 2011 Bcr-Abl transcript progressively increased and mutational analysis showed a M244V point mutation. Therapy with nilotinib 800 mg/die was started, and after six months the patient obtained a complete molecular response (CMR), surprising with disappearance of both point mutations.

The design of Pre-Engineered Building structures using tapered sections as the primary frames has saved quantity of steel substantially when comparing to the steel used on Conventional Steel Building structures. In this study, industrial building of different spans (10m, 15m, 20m, 25m, 30m, 40m & 50m) is analysed and designed according to the Indian Standards, IS 800-2007 using conventional hot rolled sections and PEB tapered sections. In this study, a relation is being made among the parameters of building to get the flow of pattern of steel reduction in the primary frames of different spans of structures. Cette note de recherche présente les données préliminaires d’une étude de cas : un petit village appelé Zhaoxing, situé au sud-est de la province du Guizhou en Chine. Depuis l’an 2000, le village de 4 000 habitants se modernise grâce au développement du tourisme. Ses quelque 800 maisons de bois nichées au creux d’une vallée sculptée de rizières, ses ponts couverts et ses tours tambours en font un site pittoresque, qui est devenu un arrêt incontournable pour un nombre toujours grandissant de touristes. Sur la base d’un terrain ethnographique approfondi (entre 2006 et 2007) et de courts séjours (entre 2000 et 2009), cet article présente quelques-unes des dynamiques impliquées dans le processus du développement touristique et économique du village. Il présente les différentes phases de développement entre 1980 et 2010 ainsi que les changements perçus par les habitants du village. Il révèle le jeu de pouvoir souvent inéquitable entre l’industrie touristique, le gouvernement local et les villageois.

У результаті проведеного дослідження висвітлено основні риси суспільно-політичних трансформацій у Московській державі в XVII ст., акцентовано увагу на спростування радянських та сучасних російських міфів щодо розвитку централізованої самодержавної моделі Московії, визначаються можливості цивілізаційного вибору Московської держави XVII ст. між станово-представницькою та абсолютистською моделями розвитку. Abstract:
In this paper the authors restrict the study of poverty and government policies in poverty reduction in West Sumatera. This research method is the study of literature. The findings from the data obtained can be seen that the level of poverty in Sumatera Barat from the years 2005-2010 continued to decline. In 2005 the number of poor people amounted to 482 800 with a percentage of 10.89%. In 2006 the number of poor people in West Sumatera experienced an increase of 550 251 inhabitants with a percentage of 12.51%. In this year poverty level are far greater than what is expected in the amount of 12.07%. Likewise, in 2007 the level of poverty in western Sumatera also incompatible with yag expected by the government in the amount of 11.26%. In this year the number of poor people in West Sumatera amounting to 529 200 with a percentage of 11.90%. In 2008 the number of poor people in West Sumatera has decreased and the level of poverty in West Sumatera is far below that have been targeted by the government at 10,85%. This year the amount of poverty in West Sumatera recorded 477 200 inhabitants with a percentage of 10.67%. So also in 2009 and 2010 the number of poor recorded is also less than the target set by the government.

Solid-state phase equilibria in the ternary systems Er-Ni-P and Er-Ni-As have been determined at 800 °C (region 0 - 67 at.% P or 0 - 50 at.% As) using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and electron probe microanalysis. Eight ternary phosphides and six ternary arsenides have been synthesized, including several phases reported previously. The hexagonal structure of the new compound Er6Ni20P13, as determined from single-crystal X-ray data, exhibits a new structure type closely related to the Ho6Ni20P13 structure. Two other new phosphides, Er16Ni36P22 (Tb16Ni36P22- type) and Er20Ni42P30 (Sm20Ni41.6P30-type), have also been obtained at 800 °C. In the Er-Ni-As system, a new arsenide Er20Ni42As30 (Sm20Ni41.6P30-type) has been found in addition to known ternary phases. From X-ray powder data, the structures of the ternary arsenides ErNi4As2 (ZrFe4Si2-type) and Er2Ni12As7 (Zr2Fe12P7-type) have been refined by Rietveld methods. In the single crystal investigations, two other new phases Er12Ni30P21 [derived (La, Ce)12Rh30P21-type] and Er13Ni25As19 (Tm13Ni25As19-type) have been prepared by high-temperature annealing (1500 °C).

Abstract:
Research on the influence of temperatures and precipitation on radial increment was carried out in spruce stands over ninety years old in the surroundings of Anenský vrch in the Orlické hory Mts. at altitudes over 800 m above sea level. To model diameter increment in dependence on climatic conditions, the standard tree-ring and correlation analysis together with the analysis of negative pointer years were used. The diameter increment has a statistically significant correlation with temperatures in July of each year in question. The growth of spruce is also affected to a statistically significant degree by precipitation in July of the previous year and by precipitation in February and March of the year in question. The standard tree-ring chronology shows an obvious decrease in radial increments starting at the beginning of the 1970s and ending at the end of the 1980s. The lowest increments were recorded for 1974, 1980, 1984 and 1986. These years with low increments were also confirmed by the analysis of negative pointer years. In the following period there is an increase in increments, with slight decreases in 1996 and 2000, which, however, according to the analysis of negative pointer years do not demonstrate any significant reduction of increments. Another decrease was recorded starting in 2003 and this lasted until the studied period, i.e. 2007. The current condition of spruce stands is certainly the result of more stressors but it appears that with the current air pollution load the climatic conditions are the factor determining the resulting effect of the synergic influence of the stressors on the stands.

On 26 February 2008, Victorian State Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu described as a ?blow out? the increase in average elective surgery waiting times from 202 days in September 2007 to 235 days in February 2008. Likewise, the Australian Medical Association is concerned that 800 000 Australians will leave private health insurance now that the federal government has increased the income threshold for the Medicare levy. They warn of ?further pressure? on public hospital waiting lists. Public hospital waiting lists are frequently used for political point scoring and are portrayed by the media and politicians as indicators of health system performance. Alarmingly, governments often develop policies in response. This paper presents the current evidence to see whether waiting lists are valid indicators of health system performance and presents some advice for policymakers.

SUMMARYNear isogenic lines (NILs) varying for alleles for reduced height (Rht) and photoperiod insensitivity (Ppd-D1a) in a cvar Mercia background (rht (tall), Rht-B1b, Rht-D1b, Rht-B1c, Rht8c+Ppd-D1a, Rht-D1c, Rht12) were compared at a field site in Berkshire, UK, but within different systems (‘organic’, O, in 2005/06, 2006/07 and 2007/08 growing seasons v. ‘conventional’, C, in 2005/06, 2006/07, 2007/08 and 2008/09). In 2007 and 2008, further NILs (rht (tall), Rht-B1b, Rht-D1b, Rht-B1c, Rht-B1b+Rht-D1b, Rht-D1b+Rht-B1c) in both Maris Huntsman and Maris Widgeon backgrounds were added. The contrasting systems allowed NILs to be tested in diverse rotational and agronomic, but commercially relevant, contexts, particularly with regard to the assumed temporal distribution of nitrogen availability, and competition from weeds.For grain, nitrogen-use efficiency (NUE; grain dry matter (DM) yield/available N; where available N=fertilizer N+soil mineral N), recovery of N in the grain (grain N yield/available N), N utilization efficiency to produce grain (NUtEg; grain DM yield/above-ground crop N yield), N harvest index (grain N yield/above-ground crop N yield) and dry matter harvest index (DMHI; grain DM yield/above-ground crop DM yield) all peaked at final crop heights of 800–950 mm. Maximum NUE occurred at greater crop heights in the organic system than in the conventional system, such that even adding just a semi-dwarfing allele (Rht-D1b) to the shortest background, Mercia, reduced NUE in the organic system. The mechanism of dwarfing (gibberellin sensitive or insensitive) made little difference to the relationship between NUE and its components with crop height.For above-ground biomass: dwarfing alleles had a greater effect on DM accumulation compared with N accumulation such that all dwarfing alleles could reduce nitrogen utilization efficiency (NUtE; crop DM yield/crop N yield). This was particularly evident at anthesis in the conventional system when there was no significant penalty for severe dwarfism for N accumulation, despite a 3-tonne (t)/ha reduction in biomass compared to the tallest lines. Differences between genotypes for recovery of N in the grain were thus mostly a function of net N uptake after anthesis rather than of remobilized N. This effect was compounded as dwarfing, except when coupled with Ppd-D1a, was associated with delayed anthesis. In the organic experiments there was greater reliance on N accumulated before anthesis, and genotype effects on NUE were confounded with effects on N accumulated by weeds, which was negatively associated with crop height. Optimum height for maximizing wheat NUE and its components, as manipulated by Rht alleles, thus depend on growing system, and crop utilization (i.e. biomass or grain production).

The use of AHCT in AL amyloidosis remains controversial as a prospective randomized control trial suggested inferior outcomes when compared with standard chemotherapy, driven primarily by high peri-transplant mortality (TRM) up to 24%. Improved patient selection criteria, supportive care and risk-adapted therapy have reduced TRM in recent single center studies. We analyzed trends and prognostic factors associated with AHCT outcomes in AL amyloidosis patients. Methods: We identified 1532 AL amyloidosis patients who underwent AHCT following high dose melphalan (MEL) within 24 months of diagnosis between 1995 and 2012 from the CIBMTR database. A subset of patients with more complete level of research data reported between 2001 and 2012 was analyzed for multivariate analysis (n=354). The primary endpoints were day30 and day100 mortality, hematologic progression free survival (PFS), hematologic relapse/progression and overall survival (OS). Data regarding cardiac, renal, hepatic and neurologic amyloid involvement was collected. Hematologic and organ response and progression were defined based on the 2004 uniform consensus criteria. Results: The median age at transplant was 57 years, with 61% males. AHCT was performed within 6 months of diagnosis in 66% patients. Karnofsky performance score (KPS) was <80 in 14%, HCT-CI was ≥ 3 in 20% and 69% had a lambda isotype. Organ involvement included renal, cardiac, hepatic and autonomic nervous system involvement in 74%, 38%, 16% and 11% respectively. Coexistent myeloma (>10% bone marrow plasma cells) was seen in 14%. Progressively higher numbers of patients received AHCT from 1995-2000 (n=140) to 2001-2006 (n=595) and 2007-2012 (n=800). The majority were untreated pre-transplant (77%) while 8% received melphalan, 6% thalidomide and 4% each received lenalidomide and bortezomib based pre-AHCT therapy. The median CD34 cell dose infused was 4.4 X 106/kg cells (IQR 3.3-6.2). MEL dose reduction was common (60% received < MEL 180 mg/m2 and 38% < MEL 140 mg/m2). The median length of hospital stay was 17 days (IQR 13-23). The median follow-up of patients from the time of transplant was 61 months (range 3-145). Day100 response included hematologic complete response, CR (12%), partial response, PR (26%), stable disease, SD (23%), and renal response (12%) with an ultimate best response of hematologic CR (33%), PR (28%), SD (19%) and renal response in 31%. Table 1 shows day30 and day100 mortality and OS at 1, 3 and 5 years showing steady declines in mortality rates and improvements in survival in successive time cohorts. Figure 1 shows the 5 year OS in each of the time cohorts. On multivariate analysis, albumin ≥ 3 g/dl at diagnosis, KPS ≥80, pre-transplant anti-plasma cell therapy and MEL ≥180 mg/m2 were associated with lower hematologic relapse/progression. KPS ≥80 and predominant renal involvement were associated with superior hematologic PFS while KPS ≥80 and < 2 organ involvement correlated with OS. Table 1 Outcomes of AHCT in AL amyloidosis. Repeat proteins are an attractive target for protein engineering and design. We have focused our attention on the design and engineering of one particular class: tetratricopeptide repeat (TPR) proteins. In previous work, we have shown that the structure and stability of TPR proteins can be manipulated in a rational fashion [Cortajarena (2011) Prot. Sci. 20, 1042–1047; Main (2003) Structure 11, 497–508]. Building on those studies, we have designed and characterized a number of different peptide-binding TPR modules and we have also assembled these modules into supramolecular arrays [Cortajarena (2009) ACS Chem. Biol. 5, 545—552; Cortajarena (2008) ACS Chem. Biol. 3, 161—166; Jackrel (2009) Prot. Sci. 18, 762—774; Kajander (2007) Acta Crystallogr. D Biol. Crystallogr. 63, 800—811]. Here we focus on the development of one such TPR–peptide interaction for a practical application, affinity purification. We illustrate the general utility of our designed protein interaction. Furthermore, this example highlights how basic research on protein–peptide interactions can lead to the development of novel reagents with important practical applications.

Abstract. HFC-23 (also known as CHF3, fluoroform or trifluoromethane) is a potent greenhouse gas (GHG), with a global warming potential (GWP) of 14 800 for a 100-year time horizon. It is an unavoidable by-product of HCFC-22 (CHClF2, chlorodifluoromethane) production. HCFC-22, an ozone depleting substance (ODS), is used extensively in commercial refrigeration and air conditioning, in the extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam industries (dispersive applications) and also as a feedstock in fluoropolymer manufacture (a non-dispersive use). Aside from small markets in specialty uses, HFC-23 has historically been considered a waste gas that was, and often still is, simply vented to the atmosphere. Efforts have been made in the past two decades to reduce HFC-23 emissions, including destruction (incineration) in facilities in developing countries under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change's (UNFCCC) Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), and by process optimization and/or voluntary incineration by most producers in developed countries. We present observations of lower-tropospheric mole fractions of HFC-23 measured by "Medusa" GC/MSD instruments from ambient air sampled in situ at the Advanced Global Atmospheric Gases Experiment (AGAGE) network of five remote sites (2007–2009) and in Cape Grim air archive (CGAA) samples (1978–2009) from Tasmania, Australia. These observations are used with the AGAGE 2-D atmospheric 12-box model and an inverse method to produce model mole fractions and a "top-down" HFC-23 emission history. The model 2009 annual mean global lower-tropospheric background abundance is 22.6 (±0.2) pmol mol−1. The derived HFC-23 emissions show a "plateau" during 1997–2003, followed by a rapid ~50% increase to a peak of 15.0 (+1.3/−1.2) Gg/yr in 2006. Following this peak, emissions of HFC-23 declined rapidly to 8.6 (+0.9/−1.0) Gg/yr in 2009, the lowest annual emission of the past 15 years. We derive a 1990–2008 "bottom-up" HFC-23 emission history using data from the United Nations Environment Programme and the UNFCCC. Comparison with the top-down HFC-23 emission history shows agreement within the stated uncertainties. In the 1990s, HFC-23 emissions from developed countries dominated all other sources, then began to decline and eventually became fairly constant during 2003–2008. By this point, with developed countries' emissions essentially at a plateau, the major factor controlling the annual dynamics of global HFC-23 emissions became the historical rise of developing countries' HCFC-22 dispersive use production, which peaked in 2007. Thereafter in 2007–2009, incineration through CDM projects became a larger factor, reducing global HFC-23 emissions despite rapidly rising HCFC-22 feedstock production in developing countries.

The objective of this work was to determine the chilling and heat requirements of Persian walnut cultivars and genotypes using excised twigs. The experiment was carried out from Nov. 2006 and 2007 to Mar. 2007 and 2008. One-year-old twigs were prepared from four cultivars and four domestic genotypes of Juglans regia L. After leaf fall, the twigs were taken and placed in plastic bags and kept at 4 ± 1 °C to stimulate 400 to 1500 chilling hours. After chilling, the excised twigs were transferred to the greenhouse with a natural photoperiod and a temperature from 18 to 27 °C. The evaluation of budbreak was made three times a week and the number of accumulated growing degree hours (°C) was determined until the buds reached the balloon or green tip stage. The chilling requirements were lowest (400 h) for catkins and highest (1000 h) for lateral buds. The Serr cultivar and ‘Z30’ genotype had the lowest chilling requirements (650 and 650 h). ‘Lara’, ‘Z63’, ‘Z53’, ‘Pedro’, and ‘Z67’ showed intermediate chilling requirements with values of 900, 900, 800, 750, and 750 h, respectively. Finally, ‘Hartley’ completed its dormancy after an accumulation of 1000 h, being the walnut cultivar with the highest chilling requirement in our study. As the final result, the cultivars and genotypes were classified into three groups based on their heat requirements: low requirement (‘Z30’ and ‘Serr’), medium requirement (‘Z53’, ‘Z67’, ‘Lara’, and ‘Pedro’), and high requirement (‘Hartley’ and ‘Z63’).

Using a four-wave cross-sectional repeated dataset spanning 17 years (World Value Survey, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2007), this research examines changes in work centrality in China during the period of economic reform. The article utilizes a recently developed methodology, hierarchical age-period-cohort (HAPC) models, to disentangle the effects of age, period, and cohort. Results show that age has a curvilinear effect: work centrality increases up to middle age, then levels off. For period effects, there is a downward trend in work centrality in China between the 1990s and 2000s that is explained by economic growth. Though overall cohort effects are marginally significant, the study reveals that work centrality tends to be high among the “revolutionary socialism generation” but lower for the “post-800 generation.”

Introduction: The absolute and proportional numbers of elderly patients diagnosed with localized prostate cancer (PCa) are on the rise. We examined treatment trends and reimbursement figures in localized PCa patients aged ≥80 years.Methods: Between 2000 and 2008, we identified 30 217 localized PCa patients aged ≥80 years in Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER)-Medicare-linked database. Alternative treatment modalities consisted of conservative management (CM), radiation therapy (RT), radical prostatectomy (RP), and primary androgendeprivation therapy (PADT). For all four modalities, utilization and reimbursements were examined.Results: PADT was the most frequently used treatment modality between 2000 and 2005. CM became the dominant treatment modality from 2006‒2008. RP rates were marginal. RT ranked third, and its annual rate increased from 20.77% in 2000 to 29.13% in 2008. Median individual reimbursement of RT was highest and ranged from $29 343 in 2000 to $31 090 in 2008, followed by RP (from $20 560 in 2000 to $19 580 in 2008), PADT (from $18 901 in 2000 to $8000 in 2008), and CM (from $1824 in 2000 to $1938 in 2008). RT contributed to most of the cumulative annual reimbursements from 2003 (49.24%) to 2008 (72.97%). PADT ranked first from 2000 (54.56%) to 2002 (50.49%), but decreased by 19.40% in 2008. CM’s contribution increased from 4.42% in 2000 to 6.96% in 2008. RP’s share of reimbursements was stable during the study period.Conclusions: Our results, focusing on localized PCa treatment in patients aged ≥80 years, showed an important increase in rates, median cost, and proportion of cumulative cost related to RT.

e20722 Background: Outpatient chemotherapy/biotherapy in oncologist's offices are being utilized in greater numbers, increasing the risks of acute allergic reactions. Methods: The clinical charts of patients receieving prolonged infusion chemotherapy/biotherapy treatments (1–3 hours of infusion) in a community oncologist's office setting were reviewed to determine the rate(risk), management and outcome of severe acute allergic reactions. Results: From January 2007 to December 2008, there were 1453 patient infusions conducted. 653 infusions in 2007 and 800 in 2008. All patients were premedicated with antiemetics, H2 blockers if indicated and dexamethasone. In addition starting 2008 patients also recieved diphenhydramine 25mg. There were total of 15 aute allergic reactions. 10 patients with respiratory symptoms(cough/dysponea/wheezing), 3 patients developed anaphylactic reactions, and 2 patients developed rash. Chemotherapy infusions were promptly discontinued and appropriate resusitative measures instituted. The drugs to which reactions occured included 6 to docetaxel, 3 paclitaxel, 3 carboplatin. and 3 oxaliplatin. All patients responded to resusitative measures which included IV fluids, oxygen, subcutaneous epinephrine, IV dexamethasone, and IV diphenhydramine. None required assisted ventilation or cardio version. All patients were discharged home after 1 to 3 hours of observation. Conclusions: Acute allergic reactions to anticancer therapy must be anticipated in all cases. Appropraite preventive protocols and prompt response will minimize the morbidity and eliminate mortality. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Concurrent tropospheric O3 and CO vertical profiles from the Tropospheric Emission Spectrometer (TES) during the MILAGRO/INTEX-B aircraft campaigns over the Mexico City Metropolitan Area (MCMA) allow us to characterize mega-city pollution. Outflow from the MCMA occurred predominantly at 600–800 hPa, evident in O3, CO, and NOx enhancements in the in situ observations. We examined O3, CO, and their correlation at 600–800 hPa from TES retrievals, aircraft measurements, and GEOS-Chem model results over the aircraft coverage (within a radius of ~700 km around MCMA). The enhancements in O3 and CO seen in the in situ measurements are not apparent in TES data, due to the lack of TES coverage during several strong pollution events. However, TES O3 and CO data are consistent with the aircraft observations on a daily mean basis (50–60 ppbv and 100–130 ppbv for O3 and CO respectively). The O3-CO correlation coefficients and enhancement ratios (ΔO3/ΔCO) derived from TES data are in good agreements with those derived from the aircraft observations and GEOS-Chem model results (r : 0.5–0.9; ΔO3/ΔCO: 0.3–0.4), reflecting significant springtime photochemical production over MCMA and the surrounding region.

Eszopiclone is a nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic for the treatment of insomnia and classified as schedule IV controlled substance. Limited information exists on eszopiclone ingestions reported to poison control centers. The distribution of eszopiclone ingestions reported to Texas poison control centers during 2005—2006 was determined for various factors. In addition, triage guidelines for the management of such ingestions were drafted. Of 525 total eszopiclone ingestions, 259 involved coingestants. Of coingestant cases, 78.8% involved suspected attempted suicide and 90.7% were managed at a healthcare facility. Of 266 ingestions of eszopiclone alone, 40.2% were suspected attempted suicide and 62.0% were managed at a healthcare facility. A final medical outcome and dose ingested were known for 60 ingestions of eszopiclone alone. The mean dose was 28.3 mg (range 0.3—210 mg). Ingestions of eszopiclone alone of ≤6 and >6 mg differed with respect to the proportion involving suspected attempted suicide (0.0% versus 64.7%), final medical outcome of minor or moderate effect (38.5% versus 67.6%) and management at a healthcare facility (34.6% versus 91.2%). Using 6 mg as a threshold dose for referral to a healthcare facility, 78% of cases not already at/en route to a healthcare facility were managed according drafted triage guidelines. The HOVON cooperative study group performed a feasibility study of escalated imatinib and intravenous cytarabine in 165 patients with early chronic-phase chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Patients received 2 cycles of intravenous cytarabine (200 mg/m2 or 1000 mg/m2 days 1-7) in conjunction with imatinib (200 mg, 400 mg, 600 mg, or 800 mg), according to predefined, successive dose levels. All dose levels proved feasible. Seven dose-limiting toxicities (DLTs) were observed in 302 cycles of chemotherapy, which were caused by streptococcal bacteremia in 5 cases. Intermediate-dose cytarabine (1000 mg/m2) prolonged time to neutrophil recovery and platelet recovery compared with a standard dose (200 mg/m2). High-dose imatinib (600 mg or 800 mg) extended the time to platelet recovery compared with a standard dose (400 mg). More infectious complications common toxicity criteria (CTC) grade 3 or 4 were observed after intermediate-dose cytarabine compared with a standard-dose of cytarabine. Early response data after combination therapy included a complete cytogenetic response in 48% and a major molecular response in 30% of patients, which increased to 46% major molecular responses at 1 year, including 13% complete molecular responses. We conclude that combination therapy of escalating dosages of imatinib and cytarabine is feasible. This study was registered at www.kankerbestrijding.nl as no. CKTO-2001-03.

PurposeThe Cystic Fibrosis Trust in 2007 published a recommended target of 75-150 nmol/L for 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OHD). In 2008 we found that only 10% of pancreatic insufficient (PI) children met this target. An increase in supplementation was implemented and a repeat audit performed in 2010.MethodsPI children ≥1 year under sole-care in our regional centre were included. Vitamin D3 supplementation increased by >450% to either 3800 IU/day liquid or 800 IU daily plus 20,000 IU weekly tablets. In 2010 pancreatic sufficient (PS) children were also audited separately.ResultsThe median 25-OHD level increased from 51.5 nmol/L in 2008 (n=78, 10% >75 nmol/L) to 72 nmol/L in 2010 (n=72, 51% >75 nmol/L), p<0.0001. In PS children (n=15 in 2010) 87% had 25-OHD levels <75 nmol/L.ConclusionsA substantial increase in supplementation led to a significant increase in 25-OHD levels but around half still failed to reach the recommended target.

Abstract:
The theoretical and empirical results of the capitalization effect of agricultural support policies on land rental price remain inconclusive. Based on the survey of Chinese Household Income Projects in 2007 and 2008, this paper adopts the panel data of 800 villages in 11 provinces in China to empirically analyze the impact of agricultural support policies on village-level land rental price. It shows that both output price support and agricultural subsidies have a significant positive effect on land rental price in the village. For each 1 CNY/kg increase in output price support, the land rental price in the village will rise by about 322.44 CNY/mu, while with an additional 1 CNY/mu increase in agricultural subsidies, it will increase by CNY 0.45. The stronger the social relationships in the village, the less area of land transfer for a fee and the lower the land rental price. For villages with weak social relationships or renting land to outsiders, output price support and agricultural subsidies can significantly increase the land rental price. Output price support and agricultural subsidies not only have a significant positive effect on the area of land transfer in the village but also an indirect negative effect on it by raising the price of regional land rent.

Abstract Abstract 4424 Background. Chronic Myeloid Leukemia represents the first human cancer in which a molecular therapy produces an effective clinical response (Holtz Blood 99:3792-800, 2002). The imatinib mesylate (IM) (Novartis Pharmaceuticals™) is a drug, that was designated to inhibit selectively certain tyrosine kinase proteins involved in the process of oncogenesis (Guilhot, The Oncologist, 9:271-81, 2004). In 2005, Michor (Nature 435:1267-70), through mathematical model, concluded that imatinib efficiently reduces the differentiated leukemic cells population, but it has not the same effect on the cell population that drives this disease, the CD34+ leukemic stem cells, which can be kept alive during the treatment. The search for the main causes of imatinib resistance has been intensified in recent years, with a special focus on the possible role of drug transporters (Apperley, Lancet Oncol 8:1018–29, 2007; Baker and Reddy, Mount Sinai J Med, 77:573–86, 2010). These proteins are the main determinants of the intracellular drug concentration, and how they actively regulating the traffic of small molecules through the cell membrane (Melo, Blood 108:1116-7, 2006). Thus, a cell can be resistant to a drug, because the optimum amount of the drug does not stay inside it to a significant effect to be achieved (Kim, Toxicology 182:291-7, 2002). Purpose. Identify differentially expressed genes in CD34+ and CD66b+ cells as candidates for IM transport. Methods. Samples of bone marrow (BM) and peripheral blood (PB) were obtained from five patients with CML treated with imatinib in better then optimal response according to European LeukemiaNet criteria (Baccarani, Blood 108:1809-20, 2006). Cells Isolation and RNA extraction. CD34+ cells were isolated from BM of five patients with CML. Likewise, mature CD66b+ PB cells were isolated from the same patients. SOLiD sequencing and sequence analysis. cDNA was sequenced according to the manufacturer's protocols for the SOLiD Total RNA-Seq kit for whole transcriptome. Data Analysis. To characterize the class genes, we analyzed the Gene Ontology (GO) annotation (Ashburner, Nature Genetics 25:25-9, 2000), and the software Cufflinks (Trapnell, Nature Biotechnology 28:511–15, 2010) were used to identify the differential expression of genes in both samples, in patients (BM × PB) and in control (BM × PB). The difference in gene expression between compared samples, were calculated based on P < 0.05 significance, were called differentially expressed genes those who submit P ≤ 0.05. Results. In pool sample of patients, it was possible to identify the genes SLC22A1 (OCT1) – in both, BM and PB pool samples, without any significant change (p ≤ 0,05) - and SLCO1A2 (OATP1A2) – only in PB sample. Thus its presence could not be identified in any of the control samples, which may reinforce the fact that these channels are actually responsible for the influx of imatinib in cells from patients undergoing treatment (Crossman, Blood:1133-4, 2005; Hu, Clin Cancer Res 14:3141–8, 2008). The presence of ABC gene family (ABCB1; ABCG2; ABCC1), described in the literature as being responsible for imatinib efflux (Jordanides, Blood 108: 1370–3, 2006; Brendel, Leukemia 21:1267–75, 2007) were found only in BM cells of patients. The presence of other two genes responsible for the drug efflux was also found exclusively in BM pool sample of patients, SLC47A1 and SLC47A2. These genes known as Human multidrug and toxin extrusion (MATE1 and MATE2) have also being identified as one important efflux mechanism of various drugs (Yonezawa and Inui, British J Pharmacol, 164:1817–25, 2011; Minematsu and Giacomini, Mol Cancer Ther, 10:531–9, 2011). Conclusion. The presence of more drug influx channels - the SLC family (OCT1 and OATP1A2) in mature cell - and absence of drug efflux channels - family ABC (ABCB1, ABCG2, ABCC1) and MATE genes (SLC47A1 and SLC47A2) - and the reverse in stem cells (CD34+) of patients with CML analyzed in this study may be the answer of why the insensitivity of CD34+ cells to treatment with IM and consequent failure to eliminate minimal residual disease. 443 Background: The Renal Comparison study in Norway (RECON) is a retrospective non-interventional study of OS in all patients diagnosed with RCC and metastatic (m)RCC before and after the introduction of TTs. Methods: Using data from two national health registries, Cancer Registry of Norway (diagnosis and cause of death) and Norwegian Prescription Database (all dispensed drugs), we assessed OS in RCC and mRCC patients diagnosed during two periods after (2009–2011 and 2006–2008) and one period before (2000–2005 [RCC]; 2002–2005 [mRCC]) the introduction of TTs and factors influencing OS in mRCC. Multivariate analysis was performed using a Cox proportional hazards model, including estimation of adjusted HR. The regression model included the covariates age, gender, geographic region, nephrectomy status, diagnostic period and TT prescription. Results: In total, 2,176, 1,887, and 3,233 RCC patients were identified in 2009–2011, 2006–2008 and 2000–2005, respectively, of whom 2,160 (30%) had mRCC. From 2006 to 2011, TT use in mRCC patients significantly increased from 21% to 56% (p<0.01); sunitinib was the most frequent first-line treatment (93%). RCC patients diagnosed in 2009–2011 and 2006–2008 had a significant improvement in OS compared with patients diagnosed in 2000–2005 (median OS: not reached and 76 vs. 49 months, respectively; both p<0.001 [log-rank]). Similarly, a significant OS improvement was shown in mRCC patients diagnosed in 2009–2011 and 2006–2008 compared with 2002–2005 (median OS: 11.0 and 8.0 vs. 6.0 months, respectively; both p<0.001 [log-rank]; with adjusted HR [95% CI] of 0.77 [0.68–0.87] and 0.87 [0.78–0.98], respectively). Factors significantly associated with longer OS in mRCC were (HR, 95% CI): younger age (0.98, 0.98–0.99), female gender (0.88, 0.79–0.97), prior nephrectomy (0.49, 0.43–0.55) and TT prescription (0.58, 0.51–0.65). Significant regional variation was also shown. Conclusions: A significant OS improvement was shown in RCC and mRCC patients following the introduction of TTs. This advance has continued into the later TT era and, although multifactorial in origin, the contribution of TTs in mRCC is highly likely.

Abstract Objectives This study assessed the demographic and molecular characteristics of community-associated (CA) and healthcare-associated (HA) MRSA genotypes in Canadian hospitals between 2007 and 2016. Methods A total of 1963 MRSA were identified among 9103 Staphylococcus aureus isolates collected from inpatients and outpatients presenting to tertiary-care medical centres across Canada. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed by broth microdilution in accordance with CLSI standards (M7 11th edition, 2018). PCR was performed to detect the Panton–Valentine leucocidin (PVL) genes and molecular analysis was performed by spa typing. Results Between 2007 and 2016, the annual proportion of S. aureus that were MRSA decreased from 26.1% to 16.9% (P < 0.0001). The proportion of CA-MRSA genotypes increased significantly from 20.8% in 2007 to 56.3% in 2016 (P < 0.0001) while HA-MRSA genotypes decreased from 79.2% to 43.8% throughout the study period (P < 0.0001). Predominant genotypes included HA genotype CMRSA2 (USA100/800) (53.6%) and CA genotype CMRSA10 (USA300) (24.9%). PVL was present in 30.1% of all MRSA isolates, including 78.4% of CA-MRSA and 1.7% of HA-MRSA genotypes. Resistance to clarithromycin, clindamycin, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole and fluoroquinolones decreased significantly over time (P < 0.0001). Conclusions The proportion of MRSA in Canada declined between 2007 and 2016. In contrast, the proportion of CA-MRSA strain types, particularly CMRSA10 (USA300), continues to increase. In 2016, CA-MRSA genotypes surpassed HA-MRSA as the most common cause of MRSA infections in Canadian hospitals.

ABSTRACTSeasonal lake Gornersee forms at the confluence of Gornergletscher and Grenzgletscher, Switzerland, and experiences outburst floods annually in midsummer. To study the interplay between lake drainage, glacier movement and crevasse activity, high-frequency seismometers and GPS receivers were deployed in networks near Gornersee during the summer ablation seasons of 2004, 2006 and 2007. We use a Rayleigh wave coherence method to locate 3289, 7939 and 4087 icequakes, respectively, primarily along well-defined surface crevasses. We calculate two-dimensional strains from triads of GPS stations and find mean differential strain rates of ~300 × 10−6 d−1 with diurnal variations up to 800 × 10−6 d−1. Crevasse icequake activity and glacial velocity are highest during early season, then decrease as meltwater channels erode and subglacial water pressure decreases. Glacial response to Gornersee drainage varied year-to-year, with icequake activity promoted at some crevasses and inhibited at others, suggesting syn-drainage icequakes may be indicative of local drainage patterns and small-scale features of the stress field. Diurnal pulses in icequake activity exhibit peak activity at different times of day in different locations, coincident with a southeast-to-northwest trending concentrated shear zone near the Gornergletscher–Grenzgletscher confluence, likely due to differences in the timing of peak strain rate in these regions.

O cultivo de trigo de sequeiro constitui ótima opção para o Estado de Minas Gerais em regiões com altitude superior a 800 m. Neste estudo objetivou-se estimar a divergência genética entre genótipos de trigo com o auxílio de métodos de análise multivariada, objetivando identificar potenciais genótipos para obtenção de combinações híbridas promissoras. Foi utilizado o delineamento experimental em blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. Avaliaram-se seis caracteres morfoagronômicos em 11 genótipos de trigo cultivados em condições de sequeiro no município de Patos de Minas-MG, nos anos de 2007 e 2008. Houve grande variabilidade fenotípica entre os genótipos de trigo avaliados em cultivo de sequeiro. Os genótipos IAC 289-L22 e IAC 289-L4 foram os mais similares, enquanto os CD 113 e EP 011106, os maisdivergentes, promissores nos cruzamentos para obtenção de materiais adaptados e com bons atributos fenotípicos em cultivo de sequeiro.

Abstract. HFC-23 (also known as CHF3, fluoroform or trifluoromethane) is a potent greenhouse gas (GHG), with a global warming potential (GWP) of 14 800 for a 100-year time horizon. It is an unavoidable by-product of HCFC-22 (CHClF2, chlorodifluoromethane) production. HCFC-22, an ozone depleting substance (ODS), is used extensively in commercial refrigeration and air conditioning, in the extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam industries (dispersive applications) and also as a feedstock in fluoropolymer manufacture (a non-dispersive use). Aside from small markets in specialty uses, HFC-23 has historically been considered a waste gas that was, and often still is, simply vented to the atmosphere. Efforts have been made in the past two decades to reduce HFC-23 emissions, including destruction (incineration) in facilities in developing countries under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change's (UNFCCC) Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), and by process optimization and/or voluntary incineration by most producers in developed countries. We present observations of lower-tropospheric mole fractions of HFC-23 measured by "Medusa" GC/MSD instruments from ambient air sampled in situ at the Advanced Global Atmospheric Gases Experiment (AGAGE) network of five remote sites and in Cape Grim air archive (CGAA) samples (1978–2009) from Tasmania, Australia. These observations are used with the AGAGE 2-D atmospheric 12-box model and an inverse method to produce model mole fractions and a "top-down" HFC-23 emission history. The model 2009 annual mean global lower-tropospheric background abundance is 22.8 (±0.2) pmol mol−1. The derived HFC-23 emissions show a "plateau" during 1997–2003, followed by a rapid ~50% increase to a peak of 15.0 (+1.3/−1.2) Gg/yr in 2006. Following this peak, emissions of HFC-23 declined rapidly to 8.6 (+0.9/−1.0) Gg/yr in 2009, the lowest annual emission of the past 15 years. We derive a 1990–2008 "bottom-up" HFC-23 emission history using data from the United Nations Environment Programme and the UNFCCC. Comparison with the top-down HFC-23 emission history shows agreement within the stated uncertainties. In the 1990s, HFC-23 emissions from developed countries dominated all other sources, then began to decline and eventually became fairly constant during 2003–2008. From the beginning of that plateau, the major factor determining the annual dynamics of global HFC-23 emissions became the historical rise of HCFC-22 production for dispersive uses in developing countries to a peak in 2007. Thereafter in 2007–2009, incineration through CDM projects became a larger factor, reducing global HFC-23 emissions despite rapidly rising HCFC-22 feedstock production in developing countries.

The beet leafhopper, Circulifer tenellus, is an agriculturally important pest, particularly in the western United States. This insect transmits the Beet curly top virus (BCTV) to multiple crops, including bean, tomato, and pepper. In this study, we investigated the incidence of BCTV in individual leafhoppers collected at several sites in northeastern Oregon during the growing season in 2007, 2008, and 2009. Of the 800 insects tested, 151 (18.9%) were found positive for the virus. Percentage of virus incidence varied from 0% at one location in 2009 to a high of 55.6% for a location sampled in 2008. The complete virus genomes from one virus-positive insect collected in each of the 3 years were determined. BLAST analysis of the BCTV whole-genome sequences from 2007, 2008, and 2009 insects showed 98, 94, and 96% identities with the BCTV-Worland sequence (AY134867), respectively. The BCTV_2008 sequence showed the greatest identity (96%) with another BCTV genomic sequence (JN817383), and was found to be a recombinant between the BCTV-Worland type, representing the majority of the genome (approximately 2.2 kb), and the BCTV-CFH type that provided an approximately 0.8-kb fragment spanning replication-related genes C1 and C2. This area of the BCTV genome, between the C1 and C2 genes, was previously found to carry symptom determinants of the virus, and the data may suggest more severe effects of BCTV during the 2008 season. Results indicate that BCTV is common and widespread in C. tenellus in eastern Oregon and that there is substantial genetic diversity among the virus strains present in this important field and vegetable crop-growing region.

Capsicum chlorosis virus (CaCV), a thrips-transmitted, tentative species in the genus Tospovirus, family Bunyaviridae, was first identified in solanaceous crops, but also infects several ornamental crops such as orchid (4), gloxinia (3), and calla lily (1). From 2005 to 2007, virus-like yellow ringspots were observed on the leaves of amaryllis (Hippeastrum hybridum Hort.) and blood lily (Haemanthus multiflorus Martyn.) plants cultured in screenhouses and a private garden, respectively. Three of several hundred amaryllis plants in screenhouses from two places were observed as showing yellow ringspot symptoms and one of six blood lily plants was observed as showing similar yellow ringspot symptoms. Sap extracts from symptomatic leaves were inoculated to Chenopodium quinoa Willd. and the resulting local lesions were passaged three successive times to C. quinoa for virus isolation. Using the tospovirus genus-specific primers gL3637 and gL4435c designed from the conserved region in the L RNA (2), DNA fragments of the expected size of 800 bp were amplified by reverse transcription (RT)-PCR from field samples and local lesions from C. quinoa. Extracts from the diseased plants and local lesions of C. quinoa reacted strongly with antiserum against the nucleocapsid (N) protein of CaCV in ELISA and western blotting. To confirm the identity of this virus, we amplified the N gene from three amaryllis and one blood lily source using primer pair WN2328 and WN3534 designed from the S RNA of Watermelon silver mottle virus (1), and these products were cloned and sequenced. The sequence from each virus isolate was determined from three independent clones. The nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences of N genes for the blood lily isolate (GenBank Accession No. EF101344) and three amaryllis isolates (GenBank Accession Nos. EF101343, EF137177, and FJ185170) had identities greater than 97% with that of a CaCV isolate infecting Capsicum spp. found in Australia (GenBank Accession No. AY036057). Phylogenetic analysis using maximum parsimony showed that these sequences clustered with CaCV. These results show that the virus identified from amaryllis and blood lily that were expressing yellow ringspot symptoms are isolates of CaCV. To our knowledge, this is the first report of CaCV naturally infecting amaryllis and blood lily and it could become an important threat to ornamental production in Taiwan. References: (1) C. C. Abstract. Iodine is an essential trace element for all mammals and may also influence climate through new aerosol formation. Atmospheric bromine cycling is also important due to its well-known ozone depletion capabilities. Despite precipitation being the ultimate source of iodine in the terrestrial environment, the processes effecting the distribution, speciation and transport of these elements are relatively unknown. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of orographic lifting on iodine concentrations and also quantify inorganic and organic iodine and bromine species. Snow samples were collected over an altitude profile (~800 m) from the northern Black Forest and were analysed (IC-ICP-MS) for iodine and bromine species and trace metals (ICP-MS). All elements and species showed a significant (r2>0.65) inverse relationship with altitude despite the short (5 km) horizontal distance of the transect. In fact, total iodine more than halved (38 to 13 nmol/l) over the 800 m height change. The results suggest that orographic lifting of cloud masses has a major influence on iodine levels in precipitation and is perhaps more important than lateral distances in determining iodine concentrations in terrestrial precipitation. The microphysical removal process was common to all elements. We also show that organically bound iodine is the dominant iodine species in snow (61–75%), followed by iodide. Iodate was only found in two samples despite a detection limit of 0.3 nmol/l. Two unknown but most likely anionic organo-I species were also identified in IC-ICP-MS chromatograms and comprised 2–10% of the total iodine. The majority of the bromine was inorganic bromide with a max.~of 32% organo-Br.
