Abstract:
Abstract. An uncooled VGA Infrared Focal Plane Array (IRFPA) based on microbolometers with a pixel pitch of 25 μm for thermal imaging applications is presented. The IRFPA has a 16-bit digital video data output at a frame rate of 30 Hz. Thousands of Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs) are located under the microbolometer array. One ADC consists of a Sigma-Delta-Modulator (SDM) of 2nd order and a decimation filter. It is multiplexed for a certain amount of microbolometers arranged in a so called "cluster". In the 1st stage of the SDM the microbolometer current is integrated time-continuously. The feedback is applied using a switchable current source. First measurements of Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference (NETD) as a key parameter for IRFPAs will be presented.

Abstract:
Infrared focal plane arrays (IRFPA) suffer from inherent low frequency and fixed patter noise (FPN). To achieve high quality infrared image by mitigating the FPN of IRFPAs, a novel low-noise and high uniformity readout integrated circuit (ROIC) has been proposed. A correlated double sampling (CDS) with single capacitor method has been adopted in the ROIC design which can effectively reduce the FPN, KTC and 1/f noise. A 4×4 experimental readout chip has been designed and fabricated using the SMIC 0.18 μm CMOS process. Both the function and performance of the proposed readout circuit have been verified by experimental results. The test results show that the proposed ROIC has a good performance in practical applications.

Two-step method is used to research stress and its distribution in 64×64 InSb infrared focal plane array (IRFPA) employing finite element method. First, a small 8×8 InSb IRFPA is systemically studied by varying indium bump diameters, standoff heights and InSb chip thicknesses in suitable range, with indium diameter 30μm, thickness 9μm and InSb thickness 12μm, von Mises stress in InSb chip is the smallest and its distribution is uniform at contacting areas. Then, the sizes of InSb IRFPA is doubled once again from 8×8 to 64×64 to learn the effect from chip sizes, thus, the stress and its distribution of 64×64 InSb IRFPA is obtained in a short time. Simulation results show that von Mises stress maximum in InSb chip almost increases linearly with array scale, yet von Mises stress maximum in Si ROIC decreases slightly with increased array sizes, and the largest von Mises stress is located in InSb chips. Besides, stress distribution on the bottom surface of InSb chip is radiating, and decreases from core to four corners, and stress value at contacting area is smaller than those on its surrounding areas, contrary to stress distribution on top surface of InSb chip.

Abstract:
Nonuniformity of Infrared Focal Plane Array (IRFPA) has greatly limited the quality of infrared imaging system, so nonuniformity must be corrected before using IRFPA. In order to reduce nonuniformity correction calculating amount and improve real-time nonuniformity correction speed, a new compressing correction method of utilizing hardware memory is presented. In this paper, memory compressing correction principle and implementing process are expounded in detail, and the hardware circuit diagram is given out. The experimental results prove that the method has simple circuit and excellent image quality and it easily realizes real-time nonuniformity correction.

Abstract:
The thermal stress and strain, from the thermal mismatch of neighboring materials, are the major causes of fracture in InSb IRFPA. Basing on viscoelastic model describing underfill, the structural stress of 16×16 InSb IRFPA under thermal shock is studied with finite element method. Simulation results show that as the diameters of indium bump increase from 20μm to 36μm in step of 2μm, the maximum stress existing in InSb chip first increases slightly, and fluctuates near 28µm, then decreases gradually. Furthermore, the varied tendency seems to have nothing to do with indium bump standoff height, and with thicker indium bump height, the maximal Von Mises stress in InSb chip is smaller. All these mean that the thicker underfill is in favor of reducing the stress in InSb chip and improving the final yield.

Abstract:
A low power readout integrated circuit (ROIC) for 512 × 512 cooled infrared focal plane array (IRFPA) is presented. A capacitive trans-impedance amplifier (CTIA) with high gain cascode amplifier and inherent correlated double sampling (CDS) configuration is employed to achieve a high performance readout interface for the IRFPA with a pixel size of 30 × 30 μm2. By optimizing column readout timing and using two operating modes in column amplifiers, the power consumption is significantly reduced. The readout chip is implemented in a standard 0.35 μm 2P4M CMOS technology. The measurement results show the proposed ROIC achieves a readout rate of 10 MHz with 70 mW power consumption under 3.3 V supply voltage from 77 K to 150 K operating temperature. And it occupies a chip area of 18.4 × 17.5 mm2.

Abstract:
Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in both men and women around the world, and 85% of it is non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). It is estimated that in 2020, there will be 228,820 cases of lung cancer and 135,720 deaths from lung (American Cancer Society, 2020). The prognosis of lung cancer is poor ( Traditionally, the most commonly used in vitro method for screening therapeutic drugs is monolayer cell cultures, which are reproducible, convenient and of low cost. However, monolayer cell culture models are unable to reproduce many properties of in vivo solid tumors such as the morphological features and the microenvironment including cellular heterogeneity, cell-cell interactions, and gradients of oxygen, pH, and nutrients. Consequently, excessive ineffective drug candidates would proceed to animal studies, which would prolong the time for drug development and increase the overall cost of drug discovery. In consideration of the foregoing, in vitro models of cancer based on three-dimensional multicellular spheroids (MCS) have been developed in our group to characterize drug candidates and drug delivery systems. Compared to monolayer cells, the multicellular spheroids can better simulate drug penetration and drug resistance in solid tumors. Therefore, the multicellular spheroids represent a more clinically relevant in vitro model to evaluate the efficacy of anticancer drugs. This project aims to characterize MCS of lung cancer cells as an improved platform to evaluate drug candidates against lung cancer. Cell viability assays on cisplatin, carboplatin, gemcitabine, and doxorubicin have been conducted to compare the anticancer activities between conventional monolayer cells and the corresponding MCS of human lung cancer cell lines, A549 and A549-iRFP (fluorescently labeled A549 cells). Higher concentrations of the tested anticancer drugs is consistently needed to inhibit 50% the cell viability in MCS than the corresponding monolayer cells of A549 and A549-iRFP. Cycled dosing schedules based on guidelines for NSCLC from National Comprehensive Cancer Network have been designed and used to treat A549-iRFP MCS. The A549-iRFP MCS have been exposed to anticancer drugs either continuously, or in pulsed concentrations according to the drugs’ pharmacokinetics (PK). The continuous drug exposure has been found to inhibit more cell growth in MCS than the corresponding PK-mimetic drug exposure. Such phenomenon would bring significant positive bias to the activity of many anticancer drug candidates during their early discovery and development. Taken together, MCS of A549 and A549 iRFP cells better represent the efficacy of anticancer drugs in clinic than the monolayer. MCS can also be used to evaluate anticancer drug candidates by pulsed drug exposure based on their pharmacokinetics, and by commonly used cycled dosing regiments to better predict their efficacy in clinical settings.

In this thesis, fabrication and characterization of CMOS-process-compatible microbolometer IRFPAs detectors are explored. These monolithic IRFPAs made of metal and semiconductor films and having thermally isolated structures are fabricated by combining IC process with bulk micromachining technique. The resistivity, TCR, noise and responsivity of single microbolometers of various material films have been fabricated and measured, which performances were characterized by calculating the D* and NETD for proposed IRFPA detectors. In the studies, platinum, germanium and polysilicon thin films are used as the sensing materials. The platinum films shows TCR values of 0.27, 0.28 and 0.31 %/oC with 200, 500 and 1000 A thickness, respectively. For germanium, TCR is ranged from -0.1 to -4.5 %/ oC with various annealing conditions. While for polysilicon thin films, TCR values extended from -0.01 to -5.9 %/ oC with different impurity dosage. Our noise measurement found that single Pt bolometer exhibits only Johnson noise, but germanium and polysilicon sensors show significant 1/f noise over their Johnson noise. Our experiment shows that one of the fabricated germanium bolometers has voltage responsivity of 7000 and 400000 V/W in air and vacuum, respectively, with proper annealing around 370 oC. The values of D* and NEDT of various proposed IRFPA detectors, based on our measured results and the design rule of a 1.2 m CMOS-process, are also calculated theoretically. It shows that the Pt IRFPA detector has the best performance in the three materials. The processes are designed to be compatible with the standard CMOS process in current IC foundries make it possible to commercialize the IRFPA devices with low cost and high reliability in the future.

This study is mainly aimed at Quantum Well Infrared Photodetector (QWIP) developed from my science group to increase the imaging performance.Firstly, we want to know what correlated between the defective process and the raw imaging, then we built a “imaging evaluation platform” to estimate and compute for calibration of the imaging in order to gain high performance.Secondly, we use MATLAB tool to build a “performance validated platform” to analyze the quality of infrared focal plane array with the standards of non-uniformity and noise equivalent temperature difference, and we propose the cross-validation method from the single element QWIP detector to check the accuracy of the platform.Thirdly, we use MATLAB tool to build a “corrected simulating platform” which can execute imaging calibration then define defective pixels extracted and calculated from temporal noise or other key parameters and list the bad pixel map, and we upload the bad pixel map to “imaging evaluation platform” to correct the defective pixels, so that infrared imaging performance is increased and calculated well. Finally, we execute some bad pixels replacement method with “corrected simulating platform” for average, bad pixel correction with neighboring image analysis and scanning bad pixel replacement algorithm, and we find the better one, scanning bad pixel replacement algorithm, among the proposed algorithms.

Abstract:
Motivation of this thesis is to synthesize HgCdTe quantum dots responsive in MWIR spectral range using chemical synthesis method and develop room temperature operated MWIR focal plane array using commercial silicon ROIC and HgCdTe CQD layer. MWIR region of electromagnetic spectrum is an important spectral range for both space and civil applications. It is extremely important in the remote sensing point of view especially for imaging earth surface from space due to existence of atmospheric transmission window in this spectral band. The dominant photodetectors in this range are single crystal InSb and HgCdTe, while the cost of these detectors is high and requires cooling around 80 K to reduce the dark current. Infrared detectors made out of epitaxial growth of HgCdTe material grown on lattice matched substrates such as CdZnTe, which is in normal practice are prohibitively costly and lot of research is going on in the developed countries to find a better alternative for the material. In the last decade colloidal quantum dots (CQD) are emerged as a better alternative for the detection of electromagnetic spectrum due to their feasible synthesis as well as tuneable electrical and optical properties. Among the available IR absorbing QD materials, HgCdTe is of special interest due to the bandgap tuneability over the wide range, which covers SWIR-LWIR regions. Its large bulk Excitonic Bohr radius (40 nm in HgTe) further helps in better control over the bandgap engineering. This thesis investigates physical properties of synthesized quantum dots, development and characterization of heterojunction IR detector and finally development and study of 320×256 pixels MWIR FPA. Significant amount of efforts have been made to understand the performance of photo-induced charge generation and electron-hole pair separation in HgCdTe QDs-Silicon heterojunction and interdigitated photoconductive devices. Several Focal Plane Array (FPA) devices are fabricated by directly dispersing these QDs onto the Si ROICs. Single pixel junction and FPA devices are characterized and their figure of merit, Specific Detectivity (D*) has been evaluated. Room temperature imaging of various MWIR emitting targets has been carried out using above FPAs. The photographs taken with the devices indicate the real time demonstration of these room temperature operated CQD based IRFPA as highly cost effective alternative for commercially available IRFPA. This thesis work is presented in six chapters including conclusion and directions towards future work.

With the popularity of mobile devices, the function has become more and more diversified. Due to the fact that the mobile commerce is not limited by a specific time zone and location, it has created numerous business opportunities. However, it also has several issues such as whether or not the quality of the service has matched with the needs of consumers. Therefore, this study is aimed to analyze the virtual service of the navigation system combined with the mobile commerce, that is, "navigation APP" as the quality of online service, and the users of mobile communication device as the object of study. ES-QUAL is referred to construct the function of the questionnaire and questionnaire itself. IRPA and IAA analysis are used to analyze the data of the users, and 398 valid questionnaires are used to analyze the quality of service. The results of the IRPA analysis show that the quality of "performance" and "itinerary planning" of navigation APP are the two functions that have high influence toward customer’ satisfaction, and "system effectiveness" is proposed as a priority project for improvement. For the result of this analysis, I hope to provide navigation system industry a reference to improve its service quality, and hope that the navigation system industry will develop better snavigation system that is in line with the needs of customers.

High Speed Rail, which was established in May 1996, showed a new ethos of public transportation, shortening the time of moving between north and south so that the passengers have many choices to travel. In other words, high-speed rail in the transport sector is very important. However, the benchmark of high-speed rail’s service quality in recent years has caused passengers to complain about service quality. This study suggests that high-speed rail firms must first understand the needs and expectations of service quality in order to improve satisfaction of passengers. Therefore, how to identify the key elements of high-speed rail service quality will be an important key to enhance passenger satisfaction. This study uses questionnaires to facilitate sampling method for data collection, with 331 valid ones. With the resulting data obtained by Mikulić and Prebežac (2008) proposal’s scope of influence, performance analysis (Impact Range-Performance Analysis, IRPA) and non-symmetry impact analysis (Impact-Asymmetry Analysis, IAA) were analyzed. IAA analysis showed that; in Tangibles, the priorities for the high-speed rail station’s improvement is to mark entrances and exits clearly; In terms of the need to give priority to improve the reliability of high-speed rail service staff is to provide zero defect; the reactivity of the most priority for improvement is the ability of high-speed rail service employees to provide a detailed description; In Assurance, the high-speed staff need to establish confidence for customers, most in need of improvement in high-speed rail is a priority to the interests of customers. The results of this study can provide high-speed rail companies further improvement or enhancement and develop business strategy management.

Conference and exhibition can attract international visitors to visit the countries and cities. It can increase the international awareness, shape the national image, and thus has the function to promote the countries and cities. Destination image affects the possibility of participants to attend the conference or exhibition. Taipei City was chosen as the study case to explore the images of foreign conference and exhibition participants towards Taipei City. Convenience sampling was used in this study. A total of 500 questionnaires were distributed to the conference and exhibition participants and 407 usable questionnaires were achieved. Collected data was analyzed using importance performance analysis (IPA), impact range performance analysis (IRPA), impact asymmetry analysis (IAA) and dynamic importance performance analysis. The results of IPA indicate that “developmental potential for conference and exhibition”, “plentiful travel information” and “English road signs clearly marked” should be considered as first priority to improve. The results of IRPA and IAA suggest that “English road signs clearly marked” is the first priority to improve. The results of dynamic IPA reveal that the satisfaction for “good place for leisure and relaxation” and “price level” is lower than the expectation for the foreign conference and exhibition participants. In general, “plentiful travel information” and “English road signs clearly marked” can be the two attributes with highest priority to improve for the foreign participants. The results of this study can be used for practitioners and government authorities to strengthen and improve the destination image.
