Abstract:

Abstract:
A tanulmány kitér a szabálytalan, illetve alulteljesítő tehetségesek némely csoportjára is, mert a különleges esetek új szempontokat jelentenek a kiemelkedő szellemi teljesítmények megértésében. A tanulmány utolsó részében az IQ és a tehetség bonyolult kapcsolódásainak illusztrációja gyanánt a tanulási zavarokkal küzdő tehetségesek és csodagyerekek képességeit, valamint a „bölcs idióta" (savant) szindróma jelenséget elemezzük.

Abstract:
To the Editor.— The article by Bellinger et al1 claims to show a dose-related toxicity of lead on intellectual functioning, ie, 5.8 IQ points and 8.9 K-TEA points per 10 µg% of blood lead (at 2 years). Yet the Figure (on page 858) shows nearly identical scores for subjects with blood leads of 10.0 to 14.9 and more than 15.0. This certainly is a surprise, because one would expect pronounced effect on the brain where the toxin levels are highest.

BELLINGER, DAVID. "Lead and IQ." Pediatrics 91, no. 4 (April 1, 1993): 856. http://dx.doi.org/10.1542/peds.91.4.856.

Abstract:
In Reply.— Dr Needles raises several important points about our study. He questions the presence of a dose-effect relationship between blood lead level at age 24 months and intellectual functioning at age 10, as well as our assertion that a threshold for this relationship was not apparent. His skepticism is understandable. Our conclusions were based on three observations, not all of which we were able to include in our paper. 1) Examination of the partial regression residual plot (IQ adjusted for all covariates and blood lead level adjusted for all covariates) indicated symmetrical distribution of residuals about the regression line and similarity in the residual variances over the blood lead range.
