Abstract:
Objectives: The evidence on utilization of immediate postpartum intrauterine contraceptive devices (IPPIUCDs) and its associated factors are limited in Ethiopia. Hence, this study intended to assess IPPIUCD utilization and related factors among women who gave birth in Adama town public hospitals, Ethiopia. Method: A facility-based cross-sectional study was done among 493 postpartum mothers at selected government health facilities in Adama town from January 20 to February 20, 2021. All women who gave birth in selected government health facilities and within 48 h of postpartum were included in the study. Data were collected using an interviewer-administered questionnaire. Logistic regression models were used to identify the factors associated with IPPIUCD utilization. Adjusted odds ratios (AORs) with 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated to measure the strength of association and statistical significance was declared at p < 0.05. Result: In this study, 22.1% (95% CI: 17.3–25.2) of the mothers used IPPIUCDs within 48 h of giving birth. Having three or more children (AOR = 4.18, 95% CI: 1.79–9.79), having no desire to have another child (AOR = 3.9, 95% CI: 1.86–8.17), counseling after delivery (AOR = 3.1 95% CI: 1.52–6.34), and having good knowledge about PPIUCD (AOR = 3.82, 95% CI: 1.94–7.49) were significantly associated with IPPIUCD utilization. Conclusion: The utilization of IPPIUCD in this study was low. Strategies to raise pregnant mothers’ awareness of IPPIUCD through mass media, and integrating standard counseling on immediate postpartum intrauterine device (IPPIUD) during antenatal care, and the immediate postpartum period are required to improve IPPIUD utilization.

Abstract:
The progressive iterative approximation (PIA) plays an important role in curve and surface fitting. By using the diagonally compensated reduction of the collocation matrix, we propose the preconditioned progressive iterative approximation (PPIA) to improve the convergence rate of PIA. For most of the normalized totally positive bases, we show that the presented PPIA can accelerate the convergence rate significantly in comparison with the weighted progressive iteration approximation (WPIA) and the progressive iterative approximation with different weights (DWPIA). Furthermore, we propose an inexact variant of the PPIA (IPPIA) to reduce the computational complexity of the PPIA. We introduce the inexact solver of the preconditioning system by employing some state-of-the-art iterative methods. Numerical results show that both the PPIA and the IPPIA converge faster than the WPIA and DWPIA, while the elapsed CPU times of the PPIA and IPPIA are less than those of the WPIA and DWPIA.

Abstract:
The study aimed to investigate whether serum sFlt-1 (soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1) at 11-13 weeks’ gestation in pregnancies that subsequently developed preeclampsia was different from those without preeclampsia and compare screening performance of the International Prediction of Pregnancy Complications (IPPIC) reported models, which include various combinations of maternal factors, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, PlGF (placental growth factor) and sFlt-1 and the competing risk (CR) models, which include various combinations of maternal factors, mean arterial pressure (MAP) and PlGF for predicting any-onset, early-onset, and late-onset preeclampsia. This was a prospective multicenter study in 7877 singleton pregnancies. The differences of the predictive performance between the IPPIC and CR models were compared. There were 141 women (1.79%) who developed preeclampsia, including 13 cases (0.17%) of early-onset preeclampsia and 128 cases (1.62%) of late-onset preeclampsia. In pregnancies that developed preeclampsia compared to unaffected pregnancies, median serum sFlt-1 levels and its MoMs were not significantly different ( p >0.05). There was no significant association between gestational age at delivery and log 10 sFlt-1 and log 10 sFlt-1 MoM ( p >0.05). The areas under the curve of CR models were significantly higher than the IPPIC models for the prediction of any-onset and late-onset preeclampsia but not for early-onset preeclampsia. In conclusion, there are no significant differences in the maternal serum sFlt-1 levels at 11-13 weeks’ gestation between women who subsequently develop preeclampsia and those who do not. Moreover, the CR models for the prediction of any-onset and late-onset preeclampsia perform better than the IPPIC reported model.

Abstract:
Background. Immediate postpartum intrauterine contraceptive device (IPPIUCD) is a lucrative postpartum family planning method which provides effective reversible contraception to women in the delivery setting. Our aim was to study the clinical outcomes of IPPIUCD insertions and compare them as a factor of route of insertion (vaginal versus caesarean).Methods. This is a retrospective analytical study done in a tertiary care teaching institute. A Cohort of 593 vaginal and caesarean deliveries with IPPIUCD insertions, over a two-year period, was studied and compared for follow-up results. Outcome measures were safety (perforation, irregular bleeding, unusual vaginal discharge, and infection), efficacy (pregnancy, expulsions, and discontinuations), and incidence of undescended IUCD strings. Descriptives were calculated for various outcomes and chi square tests were used for comparison in between categorical variables.Results. Overall complication rates were low. No case of perforation or pregnancy was reported. Spontaneous expulsions were present in 5.3% cases and were significantly higher in vaginal insertions (p=0.042). The incidence of undescended strings was high (38%), with highly significant difference between both groups (p=0.000).Conclusion. IPPIUCD is a strong weapon in the family planning armoury and should be encouraged in both vaginal and caesarean deliveries. Early follow-up should be encouraged to detect expulsions and tackle common problems.

Abstract:
IntroductionIn 2013, the Pediatric Association of the Netherlands launched an evidence-based guideline ‘Palliative care for children’. To promote implementation in daily practice and hereby improve quality of paediatric palliative care, we aimed to develop a functional individualised paediatric palliative care plan (IPPCP) that covers physical, psychological, spiritual and social functioning, with great emphasis on the guideline’s recommendations, advance care planning and patients’ and parents’ preferences and desires.MethodsA Dutch working group (28 individuals) with a strong multidisciplinary character developed a draft IPPCP, which was piloted retrospectively and prospectively. In the pilots we completed, the IPPCPs for patients who were recently diagnosed with a life-threatening or life-limiting condition and evaluated completeness, usability and user-friendliness.ResultsThe final IPPCP comprised five domains: (1) IPPCP data, (2) basics, (3) social, (4) psychosocial and spiritual and (5) physical care. Each domain covered various components. In both pilots, the IPPCP was considered a comprehensive document that covered all areas of paediatric palliative care and was experienced as an improvement to the present situation. However, the current form was regarded to lack user-friendliness.ConclusionWe propose a set of essential components of a comprehensive IPPCP for paediatric palliative care with extra attention for advance care planning and anticipatory action. Patients’ and parents’ preferences and desires are included next to the recommendations of the evidence-based guideline ‘Palliative care for children’.

Abstract:
AbstractThe analogy between virtue and crafts is the core of Socratic ethics, whose fundamental principle is that virtue is a kind of knowledge similar to technical skills. Moral knowledge, however, is on a superior level and is different from other crafts since it concerns the ends of human action. This article aims to show that the main purpose of Laches, Charmides, Lesser Hippias and Protagoras is to bring out this distinction. More specifically, all the four dialogues follow a similar pattern, i.e. they lead to the conclusion that virtue is moral knowledge by means of preliminary argumentations which consider the opposite view, supposing that it consists in technical knowledge. Thus we are shown the difficulties arising if we fail to distinguish moral knowledge, before the dialogue reaches its positive conclusion.

Abstract:
The crystallization behavior of random propene-octene isotactic copolymers (iPPC8) prepared with a homogeneous metallocene catalyst has been studied. Samples of iPPC8 with low octene content up to about 7 mol% were isothermally crystallized from the melt at various crystallization temperatures. The samples crystallize in mixtures of the α and γ forms of isotactic polypropylene (iPP). The relative amount of γ form increases with increasing crystallization temperature, and a maximum amount of γ form (fγ(max)) is achieved for each sample. The crystallization behavior of iPPC8 copolymers is compared with the crystallization from the melt of propene–ethylene, propene–butene, propene–pentene, and propene–hexene copolymers. The results show that the behavior of iPPC8 copolymers is completely different from those described in the literature for the other copolymers of iPP. In fact, the maximum amount of γ form achieved in samples of different copolymers of iPP generally increases with increasing comonomer content, while in iPPC8 copolymers the maximum amount of γ form decreases with increasing octene content. The different behaviors are discussed based on the inclusion of co-monomeric units in the crystals of α and γ forms of iPP or their exclusion from the crystals. In iPPC8 copolymers, octene units are excluded from the crystals giving only the interruption effect that shortens the length of regular propene sequences, inducing crystallization of the γ form at low octene concentrations, lower than 2 mol%. At higher octene concentration, the crystallization of the kinetically favored α form prevails.

Abstract:
AbstractThis study aims to address the utilization level of The Indonesia-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA) and Indonesia-Pakistan Preferential Trade Agreement (IPPTA). The level of FTA utilization for exports was measured by the ratio of trade value recorded in the Certificate of Origin (CoO) to Indonesia’s export value to the related country. While the level of utilization of imports was defined by the ratio of the import value of eligible products to Indonesia's total imports from the related country. The study found IJEPA’s utilization during 2012-2016 tended to decrease. In 2016, the level of utilization was about 47.2%. While IPPTA utilization for exports to Pakistan experienced a significant increase since it was implemented in 2013 with a rate of export utilization was 72.0% in 2016. On the import side, the level of utilization under IJEPA reached 67.7% while IPPTA was only 18.8% at the same period. In terms of the imports utilization level of both IJEPA and IPPTA, it was relatively stagnant, while the number of companies utilize IJEPA’s CoO was saturated. In contrast, IPPTA’s CoO users still grew at 18.2% per year. This study concluded PTA provides more positive impact on increasing Indonesia's exports to related countries than comprehensive FTAs. Thus, establishing an FTA in the form of an Economic Partnership needs to be followed with the cooperation that guarantees trade balance within the parties.

Abstract:
The constant outcry of misuse and mismanagement of funds in governmental organisations have given concern to several researches, debates and blame games. Our focus in this qualitative study is to interpretively examine the extent of internal security and management measures that are explorable in curtailing the inability to recover dues and third party loans in an IPPIS challenge-prone era among unions and cooperative societies in tertiary institutions in Nigeria, the University of Uyo, Uyo being our focus point. The study is an interpretive research that employed semi-structured interviews for the chairpersons of ASUU, SSANU, NASU and NAAT and the presidents of cooperative societies run by the unions in a federal university such as ours. These chairpersons and presidents were purposively selected for the study. Three research questions were raised to guide the study: What internal security measures are put in place by the unions to ensure recovery of dues and third party loans from debtors? How do the cooperative societies manage their funds and recover dues and third party loans during the IPPIS era? What relationship exists between the unions, cooperative societies and IPPIS office for dues and third party loans recovery? The findings of the study showed that there is no full proof of internal security measures put in place to recover dues and third party loans; that committees are set up in the cooperative societies to manage their funds through several management strategies; there is no clear relationship between the Unions, cooperative societies and IPPIS Office to aid in the recovery of dues and third party loans in the university. The study recommended among others that the IPPIS should be transparent enough to abide by the laws of its establishment in order not to under mind its primary functions of deduction and remittance of dues and third party loans to beneficiaries.

Abstract:
Intimate partner physical abuse (IPPA) of women is a societal problem with sinister implications on health. IPPA has been integrally linked to social status though the direction of association remains elusive, not the least in sub-Saharan Africa. This article investigated the association between IPPA and social status of women in Zambia. Data comprising 3,969 currently partnered women were retrieved from the 2001 Zambian Demographic and Health Survey and analyzed using chi-square test and logistic regression. IPPA augmented with low education, income-generating activity, access to information, autonomy over household health issues, and having tolerant attitudes toward IPPA. Tolerant attitude toward IPPA and illiteracy were independent risk factors for IPPA. Educational interventions are recommended to prevent IPPA in Zambia.

Abstract:
Metabolic impairment and perfusion abnormalities are known to occur in hypertensive heart disease (HHD) and in cardiomyopathies. Free fatty acid (FFA) extraction is severely inhibited in a number of pathobiochemical reactions. This parameter was assessed using the radiolabeled FFA analogue 123l-(p-iodo-phenyl-)-pentadecanoic acid (IPPA) and 201TI as perfusion marker, both of them injected at maximal physical workload. The regional extraction fraction of IPPA (IPPA-EF) was estimated by relating the regional IPPA and 201TI uptake to each other. In HHD (normal coronary arteries) with posterior wall thickness ≤12 mm IPPA-EF was 77 ± 18% (SD) in septum and 92 ± 17% in the posterolateral wall (N = 13), with thickness of >12 mm 60 ± 23% in septum and 61 ± 20% in the posterolateral wall (N = 8) when compared with IPPA-EF in normal subjects (= 100%, N = 9). In hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) IPPA-EF averaged 51 ± 20% in septum and 87 ± 10% in the posterolateral wall (N = 11). In these patient groups no systematic regional changes in 201TI uptake were observed. In dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) both IPPA-EF and 201TI uptake showed distinct regional variations and a great interindividual variability with a mean IPPA-EF reduction of 12% (N = 9). Thus, IPPA uptake in primarily non-ischemic myocardial disease may already be compromised when 201TI uptake is unchanged. The double-nuclide method for IPPA-EF determination allows to eliminate the influence of flow in FFA imaging and enhances the potential of scintigraphy in the differential diagnosis of HHD versus coronary artery disease.

Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Family planning helps couples to attain their desired number of children and proper timings of their births (1). It is best achieved with different contraceptive methods. Immediate postpartum intrauterine contraceptive device (IPPIUCD) is an excellent contraception providing safe, effective and long term reversible contraception in women after both normal delivery and c/section(2). It reduces postpartum undesired pregnancies and thus induced abortions (3). It is coitus independent, easy to insert and does not affect breastfeeding. Both care provider and client are available in the same setting, securing time and cost of interval IUD insertion. PPIUCD is associated with primary complications like pregnancy and secondary ones as irregular vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, infection, expulsion and uterine perforation. PPIUCD counselling services regarding its common side effects and complications are important. There is minimal research comparing follow up outcomes between vaginal and caesarean insertions. The objective of study is to compare outcomes of IPPIUCD as a factor of route of insertion. METHODS: In this prospective comparative study 200 patients in whom postpartum IUCD was inserted within 10 minutes of delivery of placenta after normal vaginal delivery or c/section were included. About first 100 cases of vaginal and first 100 cases of intra-cesarean PPIUCD insertions formed study groups. Record of clients was maintained and analysis at 6 weeks to 12 weeks post insertion follow up visit was done at gynae and obstetric unit of Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar. RESULTS: Of total 1005 IPPIUCD inserted during the study period, about 156( 15.5%) were inserted intra-cesarean and 849 (84.4%) after vaginal delivery. Follow up of 200 (19.9%) clients i.e. about 100 intra-cesarean and 100 vaginal insertions was recorded. Complications rate was low. No life threatening complication such as perforation was recorded. Most common complications observed between vaginal vs intra-cesarean insertions were irregular vaginal bleeding in (11% vs 5%), abdominal pain(6% vs 9%), vaginal discharge(8% vs 5%),spontaneous expulsions (8% vs 2%) and lost strings (14% vs 1%). Statistically significant difference was found between two groups with respect to lost strings (P=0.0006). CONCLUSION: IPPIUCD is an acceptable, safe (in terms of complications) and effective contraceptive option after both vaginal and intra-cesarean insertions. Early follow up examinations are helpful in identifying spontaneous expulsions and dealing common problem.

Abstract:
This study was aimed at developing new films based on isotactic polypropylene (iPP) for food packaging applications using zinc oxide (ZnO) with submicron dimension particles obtained by spray pyrolysis. To improve compatibility with iPP, the ZnO particles were coated with stearic acid (ZnOc). Composites based on iPP with 2 wt % and 5 wt % of ZnOc were prepared in a twin-screw extruder and then filmed by a calender. The effect of ZnOc on the properties of iPP were assessed and compared with those obtained in previous study on iPP/ZnO and iPP/iPPgMA/ZnO. For all composites, a homogeneous distribution and dispersion of ZnOc was obtained indicating that the coating with stearic acid of the ZnO particles reduces the surface polarity mismatch between iPP and ZnO. The iPP/ZnOc composite films have relevant antibacterial properties with respect to E. coli, higher thermal stability and improved mechanical and impact properties than the pure polymer and the composites iPP/ZnO and iPP/iPPgMA/ZnO. This study demonstrated that iPP/ZnOc films are suitable materials for potential application in the active packaging field.

The following compounds were found to inhibit HBV DNA synthesis at concentrations that were significantly lower than their minimum cytotoxic concentrations; 9-(2-phosphonylmethoxyethyl)adenine (PMEA), 9-(2-phosphonylmethoxyethyl) guanine(PMEG), 9-(2-phosphonylmethoxyethyl) guanine ethyl ester (PMEGEE), 9 - (2 - phosphonylmethoxyethyl) - 1 - deazaadenine (PMEC1A), 9-(2-phosphonylmethoxyethyl)-2,6-diaminopurine (PMEDAP), ( S)-9-(3-hydroxy-2-phosphonylmethoxypropyl)adenine (HPMPA), 9-(3-isopropoxy-2-phosphonylmethoxypropyl)adenine (IPPMPA), 9-( RS)-(2-phosphonylmethoxypropyl)adenine (PMPA) and 9-(3-hydroxy-2-phosphonylmethoxypropyl)-2, 6-diaminopurine (HPMPDAP). The most selective compounds (with indexes greater than 100) were PMEDAP, PMEA, IPPMPA, and PMPA. Acyclic pyrimidine nucleoside phosphonate analogues did not prove markedly selective as anti-HBV agents. Diphosphoryl derivatives of some acyclic purine nucleoside phos-phonates (i.e. PMEA, PMEDAP, HPMPA) were prepared. They proved inhibitory to HBV DNA polymerase but not cellular DNA polymerase α.

Abstract:
This paper proposed an integrity and privacy preserving data aggregation algorithm for WSNs, which is called IPPDA. First, it attached a group of congruent numbers to the sensing data in order to execute integrity checking operated by sink node using Chinese remainder theorem (CRT); then it computed the hash function-based message authentication codes with time and key as the parameters to satisfy data freshness; finally, it adopted a homomorphic encryption scheme to provide privacy preserving. The simulation results show that IPPDA can effectively preserve data privacy, check data integrity, satisfy data freshness, and get accurate data aggregation results while having less computation and communication cost than iCPDA and iPDA.

Abstract:
Pig pluripotent cells may represent an advantageous experimental tool for developing therapeutic application in the human biomedical field. However, it has previously been proven to be difficult to establish from the early embryo and its pluripotency has not been distinctly documented. In recent years, induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell technology provides a new method of reprogramming somatic cells to pluripotent state. The generation of iPS cells together with or without certain small molecules has become a routine technique. However, the generation of iPS cells from pig embryonic tissues using viral infections together with small molecules has not been reported. Here, we reported the generation of induced pig pluripotent cells (iPPCs) using the iPS technology in combination with valproic acid (VPA). VPA treatment significantly increased the expression of pluripotent genes and played an important role in early reprogramming. We showed that iPPCs resembled pig epiblast cells in their morphology and pluripotent markers, such as OCT4, NANOG, and SSEA1. It had a normal karyotype and could form embryoid bodies, which express three germ layer markersin vitro. In addition, the iPPCs might directly differentiate into neural progenitors after being induced with the retinoic acid and extracellular matrix. Our study established a reasonable method to generate pig pluripotent cells, which might be a new donor cell source for human neural disease therapy.

Abstract:
In this paper, we present the Integrated Policy Package Assessment (IPPA) approach and relate IPPA to three substantial concepts of problem-oriented research concerned with societal transformations: technology assessment (TA), sustainability research (SR), and responsible research and innovation (RRI). The IPPA approach provides (political) decision-makers with transformation and orientation knowledge via a four-step process of (1) design, (2) analysis, (3) evaluation, and (4) discourse of a policy package assessment. It is illustrated with a case study of urban passenger transport. As an integrated approach, IPPA has substantial ties to TA, SR, and RRI. It connects with TA in fundamental ways, since it combines the field of TA with the field of regulatory assessment based on consequence analysis. Connectable to the field of SR, IPPA addresses deliberation processes and sustainable pathway identification based on multi-criteria assessment. In addition, akin to the area of RRI, IPPA shows cross-cutting axes with regards to social resonance assessment and stakeholder evaluation with a focus on multi-actor responsibilities. In this contribution, we link evidence-based impact assessment with transformation pathway mechanisms and corresponding policy packages, backed by stakeholder-based responsible innovation feedback loops. This enhances the ex-ante analysis of policy packages regarding their intended as well as unintended consequences.

Abstract:
Introduction. Many medical schools overestimate the percentage of their graduates who enter the primary care workforce based on the “first-certificate” residency their graduates enter. To rectify this problem, Deutchman et al. (2020) proposed a new method of estimation. The objective of this study was to compare results from the traditional residency match and Deutchman methods to the actual percentage of University of Kansas School of Medicine (KUSM) graduates who practice primary care after completing medical school and all residency and subspeciality fellowship training. Methods. We conducted a retrospective study using a convenience sample of KUSM graduates from 2003-2014. We compared percentages of graduates classified as primary care by the traditional Residency Match Primary Care Method (RMPCM) and the percentages of graduates identified as primary care by Deutchman’s Intent to Practice Primary Care Method (IPPCM) with the actual percentage of graduates who eventually entered the primary care workforce. Results. Of the 1944 KUSM graduates identified during the study period, the RMPCM predicted a 48.1% primary care output rate. The Deutchman’s IPPCM predicted a 22.8% primary care output rate. The actual known percentage of graduates practicing primary care was 34.2%. Conclusions. Neither the RMPCM nor the Deutchman’s IPPCM performed well in predicting the percentage or number of KUSM graduates who eventually practiced primary care. Due to predictions for the shortage of primary care physicians, there is a need to identify a method that more accurately predicts the medical schools’ contribution to the primary care workforce.

Abstract:
This article examines the legal implications of the forthcoming IPPC Directive for the regulation "of aquatic and atmospheric emissions of pollutants from activities currently covered by the provisions of Directives 76\464\EEC and 84/360/EEC. It appears that the IPPC Directive, far from harmonizing emission standards applicable to those activities, will in fact substantially increase the discretion of national authorities with respect to standard-setting. The concept of "best available techniques", as defined in the IPPC Directive, is virtually devoid of prescriptive value. Though it will extend the prior authorization requirement to many activities not currently subject to this requirement under Community law and introduce an integrated approach to pollution prevention and control across all environmental media, the IPPC Directive is likely to lead to some measure of deregulation for activities subject to the authorization systems of the existing Directives 7614641 EEC and 84/360/EEC.

Summary: This article provides an operationalisation of the concept of integration within the meaning of the IPPC Directive along the dimensions of procedural, organisational, and substantive integration. Within this conceptual framework of integration, the national transpositions of the IPPC Directive in Germany, Denmark, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK are presented, and critically reviewed. On the basis of empirical implementation data and the results of legal analyses it is shown that the holistic approach of the IPPC Directive remains elusive in Europe. Therefore, the discussion concludes with some observations on regulatory credibility, efficiency, and strategy in a Union of 25 Member States.

Abstract:
BackgroundRepetitive species-specific sound enables the identification of the presence and behavior of soniferous species by acoustic means. Passive acoustic monitoring has been widely applied to monitor the spatial and temporal occurrence and behavior of calling species.MethodsUnderwater biological sounds in the Pearl River Estuary, China, were collected using passive acoustic monitoring, with special attention paid to fish sounds. A total of 1,408 suspected fish calls comprising 18,942 pulses were qualitatively analyzed using a customized acoustic analysis routine.ResultsWe identified a diversity of 66 types of fish sounds. In addition to single pulse, the sounds tended to have a pulse train structure. The pulses were characterized by an approximate 8 ms duration, with a peak frequency from 500 to 2,600 Hz and a majority of the energy below 4,000 Hz. The median inter-pulsepeak interval (IPPI) of most call types was 9 or 10 ms. Most call types with median IPPIs of 9 ms and 10 ms were observed at times that were exclusive from each other, suggesting that they might be produced by different species. According to the literature, the two section signal types of 1 + 1 and 1 + N10might belong to big-snout croaker (Johnius macrorhynus), and 1 + N19might be produced by Belanger’s croaker (J. belangerii).DiscussionCategorization of the baseline ambient biological sound is an important first step in mapping the spatial and temporal patterns of soniferous fishes. The next step is the identification of the species producing each sound. The distribution pattern of soniferous fishes will be helpful for the protection and management of local fishery resources and in marine environmental impact assessment. Since the local vulnerable Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin (Sousa chinensis) mainly preys on soniferous fishes, the fine-scale distribution pattern of soniferous fishes can aid in the conservation of this species. Additionally, prey and predator relationships can be observed when a database of species-identified sounds is completed.

The aim of the present study was to de-velop multidimensional measure of parental psychological control. In the first study, item se-lection of the new Inventory of Parental Psychological Control (IPPC) was conducted using a set of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) in a sample of 209 emerging adults. The second study replicated the results by using different sets of analyses and independent sample of 400 emerging adults. In both studies, reliability and concurrent validity were also assessed. Re-sults suggested that both forms of IPPC are parallel with the theoretical assumptions and are psychometrically robust. IPPC can be used to assess multidimensionality of the construct.

AbstractCouncil Directive 96/61/EC concerning integrated pollution prevention and control (IPPC) is an important EU framework regime for the control of polluting emissions from major industrial sources. The concept of BestAvailable Techniques (commonly known as BAT) is the core element of the Directive and permits issued for industrial installations need to take account thereof. Therefore, the proper implementation of the IPPC Directive vis-a-vis individual installations can be assessed, among others, on the basis of whether or not BAT applies. Whilst the concept of Best Available Technology (used by the predecessor of the IPPC Directive) is less stringent, the European Court of Justice has taken a strict approach regarding its application by Member States and the adaptation of existing installations to this concept.

Abstract:
In contrast to previous competitions, where the problems were goal-based, the 2011 International Probabilistic Planning Competition (IPPC-2011) emphasized finite-horizon reward maximization problems with large branching factors. These MDPs modeled more realistic planning scenarios and presented challenges to the previous state-of-the-art planners (e.g., those from IPPC-2008), which were primarily based on domain determinization — a technique more suited to goal-oriented MDPs with small branching factors. Moreover, large branching factors render the existing implementations of RTDP- and LAO-style algorithms inefficient as well. In this paper we present GLUTTON, our planner at IPPC-2011 that performed well on these challenging MDPs. The main algorithm used by GLUTTON is LR2TDP, an LRTDP-based optimal algorithm for finite-horizon problems centered around the novel idea of reverse iterative deepening. We detail LR2TDP itself as well as a series of optimizations included in GLUTTON that help LR2TDP achieve competitive performance on difficult problems with large branching factors -- subsampling the transition function, separating out natural dynamics, caching transition function samples, and others. Experiments show that GLUTTON and PROST, the IPPC-2011 winner, have complementary strengths, with GLUTTON demonstrating superior performance on problems with few high-reward terminal states.

Abstract:
The Indonesian pectin manufacturing industry is underdeveloped, and pectin is imported to meet its increasing demand; we attempted to isolate pectins from various fruit peels, such as orange peel (OP), papaya peel (PP), mango peel (MP), watermelon peel (WP), and chayote peel (CP) and investigated their chemical characteristics (equivalent weight of the extracted pectins and their moisture, ash, methoxyl, and galacturonic acid (GA) contents). Acid extraction, purification, precipitation, and drying processes were used to process the isolated pectins. We examined their chemical properties for conformance to quality standards advised by the International Pectin Producers Association (IPPA). The moisture (except OP pectin) and ash contents (except PP pectin) of the extracted pectins were within the limit set by IPPA. However, the equivalent weight (W eq) of any of the isolated pectins did not satisfy IPPA standards. The methoxyl contents of the pectins isolated from OP, WP, and CP satisfied IPPA standards. High methoxyl pectins were isolated from PP and MP. The galacturonic acid contents of the isolated pectins were higher than the acceptable limit of the GA level. Thus, OP, PP, MP, WP, and CP are potential sources of pectin.

Abstract:
Purpose – An agile supply chain (ASC) includes companies that are operationally linked to each other, such as supply, design, manufacturing and distribution centers that respond and react quickly and effectively to change markets. Information systems and technology have a main role in achieving this objective. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between information integration, information infrastructure flexibility and the ASC in the Iranian power plant industry (IPPI). Design/methodology/approach – The quantitative method was employed in this study. Survey questionnaires were sent to 87 managers in the IPPI to examine the relationship between information integration, information infrastructure flexibility, and the ASC. Findings – The final results indicated that information sharing and responsibility were strongly related with the ASC; accessibility and connectivity had important relations with the ASC; while the relationships between compatibility and adaptableness as IT flexibility variables and ASC were positive but not significant. Research limitations/implications – This study focussed on the impact of IT on the IPPI specifically companies that manufacture boilers, electronic control tools, turbines, turbine blades, generators and other power plant-related components. Practical implications – A new research model was developed to assess the impact of the interrelationships among IT capabilities and the ASC and results should assist managers as well as academicians. Originality/value – An investigation was carried out through this study based on the current situation in IPPI to empirically examine and evaluate the effect of IT integration and flexibility on ASC. Besides, a very limited number of studies have been done on the implementation of information technology in the IPPI.

Abstract:
The juvenile hormone (JH) is crucial for insect reproduction, and isopentenyl pyrophosphate isomerase (IPPI) is a key enzyme in the JH synthesis pathway. However, few studies have investigated how IPPI regulates insect reproduction. This study identifies and characterizes the IPPI gene (SfIPPI) from the important agricultural pest Sogatella furcifera. A phylogenetic analysis reveals a high homology of SfIPPI with the IPPI amino acid sequences of Laodelphax striatellus and Nilaparvata lugens (Stål). Furthermore, SfIPPI is expressed at various developmental stages and in various tissues of S. furcifera, and is significantly higher on the 5th day of adult emergence and in integument tissue, while lower levels are found on the 3rd day of adult emergence and in fat body and gut tissue. After silencing SfIPPI using RNA interference, the ovarian development is significantly inhibited and the fecundity is significantly reduced when compared with the control group. Additionally, SfIPPI silencing significantly decreases the expression levels of downstream JH signal transduction pathway genes (SfJHAMT, SfFAMeT, and SfKr-h1) and SfVg. Our findings are helpful in elucidating the molecular mechanism underlying the regulation of insect reproduction through genes in the JH synthesis pathway, and they provide a theoretical basis for the development of pest control treatments targeting SfIPPI.

AbstractThis contribution presents a comparative empirical and legal evaluation of the implementation of the IPPC directive in eight EU member states focusing on the integrated approach of the directive. The national transpositions left existing national administrative structures and procedures basically unchanged. Holistic integrated permitting does not occur in any of the countries under study. Explaining the findings with incremental political theory, they serve as the basis for some reflections on the planned recast of the IPPC directive and the prospects for better regulation. While the first part of the article (JEEPL 5.1, 2008, 1–33) displayed the basic shortcomings of the IPPC review process (1.), the concepts of integration under the Directive (2.) and the empricial analysis of the national approaches to integrated permitting (3.1–3.3) this second part explains and evaluates the findings with regard to the pending revision of the directive.

This article gives an economic analysis of some of the more important aspects of the new proposal for a Directive on Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC). The authors use an economic interpretation of the subsidiarity principle to analyze the concept of IPPC, the choice of the permit as a central instrument and the importance and interpretation of the principle of Best Available Technology (EAT) in the IPPC proposal. They come to the conclusion that the proposal does not conform with the subsidiarity principle to the extent that it allows for a European-wide interpretation ofBA T and prescribes the permit as the main instrument to control and prevent pollution. Emission and technology standards should be set at local level, using local and optimally differentiated interpretations of BAT, complying with a European framework of quality standards. Also scope should be given to Member States for using alternative instruments.

AbstractThis essay presents a comparative empirical and legal evaluation of the implementation of the IPPC Directive in eight EU member states focusing on the integrated approach of the directive. This first part of the article displays the basic shortcomings of the IPPC review process (1.) the concepts of integration under the Directive (2.) and the empirical analysis of the national approaches to integrated permitting (3.1 – 3.3). The second part which will be published in the subsequent JEEPL issue explains and evaluates the findings with regard to the pending revision of the Directive.

Abstract:
Subject. The article addresses financial relations arising from the implementation of Federal Law On Protection and Promotion of Investments in the Russian Federation (FZ-69), as amended. Objectives. The purpose is to identify subjects and objects of financial relations, as well as financial instruments affecting the feasibility of proposed measures of State support to investors during implementation of Investment Protection and Promotion Agreement (IPPA). Methods. We employed general scientific methods of cognition (analysis, generalization, description) and the systems approach to unveil financial and economic relationships between all participants in the process, i.e. Project Implementation Unit (PIU), its counterparties, Public Law Entity (PLE), regulated organizations, and other entities. Results. We determined subjects and objects of financial relationships arising from the IPPA implementation, systematized financial instruments and considered the specifics of their application during the IPPA implementation, identified financial effects from using a stabilization clause and legislation on taxes and fees, examined the impact of amendments to the said law. Conclusions. The findings can be used by subjects of financial relations (in particular, the PIU, creditors, regulated organizations, the PLE) to justify the IPPA feasibility. The proposed recommendations (on discounting the reimbursable costs for creation of related infrastructure facilities, on real damage caused to PIU and losses of PLE, etc.) can be taken into account when making subsequent changes to the current legislation on investment protection and promotion.

Abstract:
In the context of the Russian Federation’s significant trade relations in plants and plant products with other countries, the Russian Federation Law on Plant Quarantine was reviewed in comparison with the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) and the EC Plant Health Directive (2000/29/EC). The Russian Law dates from 2001 when the current version of the IPPC (‘1997 revision’) was already in place but basically adopts the plant health principles of the previous version. Hence, some key provisions of the 1997 version that bring the IPPC in line with the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (the SPS Agreement) of World Trade Organization (WTO) are lacking. Overall, the Law is not an obstacle to trade in plants and plant products in itself, but the lack of details in such important matters as pest risk analysis (PRA) suggest that barriers could arise in the interpretation of the Law or in its application through (secondary) normative acts.
