Abstract. The non-medical use of image- and performance-enhancing drugs (IPEDs) is widespread in the fitness and bodybuilding scene. The reasons for IPED use are often hedonistic in nature and they are used in so-called “cycles” over several weeks. The most common side effects are: testicular atrophy, acne, hypersexuality, hypertension, gynecomastia, lipid metabolism disorders, mood swings, hair loss, and policythemia. Common consequences following IPED use are: decreased libido, oligo- or azoospermia, and erectile dysfunction. To reduce undesirable side effects and consequences, IPED users often take medications for self-treatment; occasionally IPED users also mention such medications and ask for them in the general medical practice.

SUMMARYPeople who inject drugs are vulnerable to infections and injuries at injection sites, but these have rarely been studied in those injecting image- and performance-enhancing drugs (IPEDs). This study examined the factors associated with reported symptoms of injection site infections and injuries in IPED injectors. Of the 366 male IPED injectors surveyed, 42% reported ever having redness, swelling and tenderness (36% in the preceding year), and 6·8% had ever had an abscess or open wound at an injection site. Having these symptoms was associated with a range of factors related to drug use and healthcare utilization. One sixth (17%) of those reporting redness, tenderness and swelling had ever sought treatment, as had the majority (76%) of those reporting an abscess, sore or open wound. Most common sources of advice were emergency clinics and General Practitioners. Interventions are needed to support access to appropriate injecting equipment and provide targeted harm reduction advice.

Abstract. IPED consumers seek medical advice when uncertain as to their use. Due to shame or fear of stigmatization IPED consumers are often reluctant to talk about their drug use; they fear prejudice and a lack of experience when caring for this specific patient group. In order to strengthen trust, a non-judgmental, non-stigmatizing and supportive attitude is essential. The interaction should primarily lead to an understanding of why AAS are being used, what the patient’s concerns are, and why medical help is being sought, without judgment or condemnation of the behavior. If no motivation to abstain from drug use is found during the consultation, harm reduction should be sought and the consequences of use addressed. Regular talks and active harm reduction can increase the confidence in evidence-based treatment to achieve personal motivation to abstain under medical supervision.

Purpose: To investigate spleen deficiency and excess dampness syndrome (SDES) in primary liver cancer (PLC) and the underlying mechanism using ultra pressure liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS). Methods: Ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS) was used to detect urine metabolites from untreated and IPED-treatment PLC-SDES patients. The metabolites were annotated using Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), Human Metabolome Database (HMDB), and Lipidmaps. Principle component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares to latent structure-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) models were built to reveal the metabolic differences between untreated, IPED-treated patients and healthy controls. The differential metabolites in PLC-SDES patients were screened according to variables important in the project (VIP) and p-value. Results: In urine, 537 metabolites (256 in negative and 281 in positive mode) were considered differential in PLC-SDES patients when compared to healthy controls. In untreated patients, 100 metabolites (38 in negative and 62 in positive mode) were differential when compared to IPED-treatment patients. The urine of PLC-SDES patients showed overlap of 32 metabolites. Conclusion: The results reveal comprehensive urine metabonomic changes in PLC-SDES patients, relative to healthy controls and IPED-treated patients. The identified metabolites may be potential biomarkers for diagnosis and IPED therapy.

Background Pedigree data (family history) are indispensable for genetics studies and the assessment of individuals' disease susceptibility. With the popularity of genetics testing, the collection of pedigree data is becoming more common. However, it can be time-consuming, laborious, and tedious for clinicians to investigate all pedigree data for each patient. A self-service robot could inquire about patients' family history in place of professional clinicians or genetic counselors. Objective The aim of this study was to develop a mobile-based and self-service tool to collect and visualize pedigree data, not only for professionals but also for those who know little about genetics. Methods There are 4 main aspects in the iPed construction, including interface building, data processing, data storage, and data visualization. The user interface was built using HTML, JavaScript libraries, and Cascading Style Sheets (version 3; Daniel Eden). Processing of the submitted data is carried out by PHP programming language. MySQL is used to document and manage the pedigree data. PHP calls the R script to accomplish the visualization. Results iPed is freely available to all users through the iPed website. No software is required to be installed, no pedigree files need to be prepared, and no knowledge of genetics or programs is required. The users can easily complete their pedigree data collection and visualization on their own and through a dialogue with iPed. Meanwhile, iPed provides a database that stores all users’ information. Therefore, when the users need to construct new pedigree trees for other genetic traits or modify the pedigree trees that have already been created, unnecessary duplication of operations can be avoided. Conclusions iPed is a mobile-based and self-service tool that could be used by both professionals and nonprofessionals at any time and from any place. It reduces the amount of time required to collect, manage, and visualize pedigree data.

To measure athlete’s success and his sports performance, it is required to quantify the maximum performance developed during seasons of trainings and championships; using a valid, reliable and adapted to peruvian context instrument. However, caution is urged when considering there is no psychometric evidence to support the use of any scale related to peruvian high performance athletes sample. The current study was designed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Sports Performance Psychological Inventory (IPED) in the mentioned sample. Method: Participated 255 peruvian athletes with ages between 14 and 38 years (N:23; SD: 4.29); who actively represents the country and in sports modalities affiliated with the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD). For the collection of information, a sociodemographic record, Sports Performance Psychological Inventory (IPED) and the Mental Toughness Questionnaire (MTQ) were used. Results: IPED model demonstrated, that the seven-dimensional model had an acceptable fit (SBχ2 = 2243.096 / df = 798; CFA= .955; SRMR= .095; RMSEA= .084 [IC90%: .080 - .069] and reliability analyses revealed high internal consistency (ω = .841 > ω = .754). In addition, scores correlated positively between IPP and MTQ dimensions (AC= .678; CAN= .557; CAT= .457 ; CVI= .328; NM= .425; CAP= .641; CAC= .662 ) and Control (AC= .558; CAN= .733; CAT= .682 ; CVI= .171; NM= .272; CAP= .432; CAC= .563) Conclusion: The IPED provides adequate evidence of validity and reliability to measure and establish a profile of strengths and weaknesses in high performance athletes from all of its dimensions in the peruvian context. Resumo: Para medir o sucesso de um atleta e seu desempenho esportivo é necessário quantificar o desempenho máximo que ele realiza durante os treinos e campeonatos a partir de um instrumento válido e confiável adaptado ao contexto peruano. No entanto, até o momento não há evidências psicométricas para apoiar o uso de qualquer instrumento por atletas qualificados. Nesse sentido, o objetivo principal deste estudo é avaliar as propriedades psicométricas do Inventário de Performance Psicológica para o Esporte (IPED) na referida população. Método: participaram 255 atletas que representam ativamente o país nas modalidades esportivas filiadas ao Instituto Peruano de Esportes (IPD). As idades variaram de 14 a 38 anos (N: 23; DT: 4,29). Para a coleta das informações foi utilizado um inventário sociodemográfico, o Sports Performance Inventory e o Mental Strength Questionnaire. Resultados: O modelo sete-dimensional IPED apresentou um bom ajuste dos dados (SBχ2 = 2243,096 / df= 798; CFI= ,955; SRMR= ,095; RMSEA= ,084 [IC90%: 0,080-0,069] e consistência interna adequada para as dimensões que variam entre ω = 0,841 e o menor valor ω = 0,754. Da mesma forma, foram observadas correlações positivas e estatisticamente significativas entre as 7 dimensões do IPED com as dimensões de confiança (AC = 0,678; CAN = .557; CAT = .457; CVI = .328; NM = .425; CAP = .641; CAC = .662) e Controle (AC = .558; CAN = .733; CAT = .682; CVI = .171; NM = .272; CAP = .432; CAC = .563) do Questionário FM. Conclusão: Conclui-se que o IPED apresenta evidências de confiabilidade e validade adequadas para medir o desempenho esportivo e que, portanto, é um instrumento capaz de avaliar o desempenho psicológico no esporte em atletas de diferentes modalidades esportivas.

Detta arbete är en undersökning om vad en Jailbreaking av iPhone OS kan tillföra för en vanlig användare och även de utökade möjligheterna för utvecklare. Det syftar till att ge en lätt överskådlig förklaring om hur jailbreaking fungerar och vilka fördelar och nackdelar som följer med det valet.

Det var ett personligt intresse för modifikation av operativsystem som gav grunden för valet av denna undersökning. Efter det egna införskaffandet av en iPhone 3Gs i slutet av 2009 utvecklades intresset för jailbreaking, något som successivt byggdes upp till en passion att vilja undersöka en iPhones fulla potential.

I rapporten kommer ett antal jämförelser att göras mellan ett native iPhone OS och ett Jailbreakat iPhone OS. Versionen är 3.1.3, vilken är den senaste stabila. Det presenteras viktiga paket som bevis för vad de extra funktioner som kan uppnås genom användandet av jailbreak. Det kommer även att beskrivas hur Jailbreak utförs. De paket som presenteras i arbetet kommer att vara de mest populära, funktionsrika och pålitliga utav de som finns tillgängliga inom jailbreak communityn.

Detta arbete resulterade i en redan förväntad bekräftelse att jailbreak har mycket att tillföra både normalanvändare för att utnyttja sin enhet med iPhone OS till sin fulla potential, men även för utvecklare som blivit nekade av Apple att få sälja sina produkter på AppStore eller helt enkelt bara vill utveckla utan Apples restriktioner och regler. Pengar finns absolut att tjäna genom Cydia Store eller liknade, vilket bevisas genom statistik och estimeringar.

Associer analyse industrielle et imaginaire peut sembler audacieux. C’est la puissance de ce travail de recherche qui propose d’aborder les nouvelles institutions que sont devenus les géants du CaC40 non pas par leur pouvoir financier mais par leur puissance de penser. Une des hypothèses fortes observées après plusieurs années d’expériences professionnelles en France et à l’international dans le domaine de la recherche (Silicon Valley, Stanford University, University of Berkeley, University of California (UCLA)) et de l’industrie, est de défendre que l’industrie pense. Avant même de répondre à la mission qu’on lui attribue, soit de produire, l’industrie compose et diffuse une idéologie. Les industries « classiques » de l’imaginaire s’amplifient et se métamorphosent avec les industries high-tech du logiciel, des jeux vidéo et du web dont Apple est le parangon. Notre sujet prend alors une double dimension théorique et critique, mais aussi industrialo -technique. Ce n’est pas seulement un enjeu heuristique qui l’anime, mais le souci d’analyser un « terrain » de grande actualité et de forte visibilité. Une autre originalité de ce travail stratégique est de proposer une méthode de recherche applicable afin de questionner le monde industriel. Combining industrial and imaginary analysis may seem daring. It is the power of this research that proposes to address the new institutions that have become the giants of the CaC40 not by their financial power but by their power of thinking. One of the strong hypotheses observed after several years of professional experience in France and abroad in the field of research (Silicon Valley, Stanford University, University of California, University of California (UCLA)) and industry, is to defend that the industry thinks. Even before responding to the mission attributed to it, to produce, the industry composes and disseminates an ideology. The "classic" industries of the imaginary are amplified and metamorphosed with the high-tech industries of software, video games and the web, of which Apple is the paragon. Our subject then takes on a double dimension, theoretical and critical, but also industrialtechnical. It is not only a heuristic issue that drives it, but the desire to analyze a "terrain" of great relevance and high visibility. Another originality of this strategic work is to propose an applicable research method to question the industrial world. This master thesis focuses on the Apple's iPad in the educational institutions and provides reader with the compact overview about the device in this field. Firstly, it shows the strategy of the company in the Europe and the Czech Republic. Secondly, there are mentioned iPad competitors from the different perspectives and the comparison. Thirdly, iPad usage in the schools; if it is even suitable device for this field and how students and educators can benefit from it. This is followed by the survey among the high school and university students. The questionnaire was divided into the two groups -- non-iPad users and iPad users. And lastly the thesis shows various case studies from the different schools and how the iPad can be implemented into the curriculums. Also contains recommendations and the best practises from the different high schools and universities, which can be inspiring for the new iPad pilot projects.

Denna kandidatuppsats har som syfte att undersöka hur denna förändring påverkar de svenska dagstidningarna när det kommer till Apples iPad. Vår frågeställning är således; hur tar svenska dagstidningar sig an iPad som en ny medieplattform?Vi har valt att använda oss utav kvalitativa intervjuer med de ledande aktörerna på den svenska dagstidningsmarknaden. Eftersom det här är ett så pass nytt och outforskat område finns det begränsat med relevant teori att tillgå. Vi har som hjälp använt oss av teorier om nya medier och digitalisering där vi bland annat har tittat på Internets framväxt. Det vi har kommit fram till i vår kandidatuppsats är att det är en ny marknad fylld av experiment och tester för att utveckla den perfekta modellen över hur man som dagstidning ska positionera sig på iPad. De resultat vi har kommit fram till idag komer med största sannolikhet att ändras inom ett par år. Både för att tekniken förbättras och skapar fler möjligheter, samt att konkurrenter ändrar förhållandena på marknaden.

Bakgrund: IKT-tekniken är införd sedan länge i grundskolan och är nu på väg att införas i förskolan. Det är därför intressant att undersöka hur långt införandeprocessen kommit, hur olika pedagoger uppfattar anvisningar från centralt håll, likaså hur de betraktar sin egen roll och sitt arbete med det nya verktyget. Vad anser pedagogerna sig behöva för stöd för att vidareutveckla arbetet med detta verktyg? Hur formuleras användningen av Ipad i relation till strävansmålen? Syftet är att belysa pedagogernas arbete, kunskaper och förhållningssätt till Ipad i några utvalda förskolor, där man har arbetat med detta verktyg i ca ett år. Metod: Undersökningen baseras på en kvalitativ intervjumetod. Frågeställningarna har fokus på när och hur Ipad används, vad som hindrar och underlättar användandet och behovet av utbildning för att använda detta verktyg. Undersökningsgruppen består av åtta pedagoger och två centrala tjänstemän. Intervjuerna är genomförda på sex olika förskolor i en mellanstor kommun i Västra Götaland. Resultat: Studien visar på att införandet av Ipad som pedagogiskt verktyg är en långsamtgående och ojämn process, som dock är i full gång. I studien framkommer tydligt att det finns de pedagoger som använder Ipad, som pedagogiskt verktyg, men det finns också pedagoger, som har ett mer osäkert förhållningssätt och där används iPad mera som en leksak. Pedagogerna har positiv inställning till verktyget samt stor önskan om mer utbildning för att kunna använda det mer pedagogiskt och målinriktat

Barn och unga av idag är digitalt infödda i förhållande till oss vuxna som är invandrade i dagens digitala samhälle. Då skolan speglar samhället är det en högaktuell fråga hur vi tar tillvara elevernas digitala kunskap i skolans lärande. Syftet med denna studie har varit att undersöka hur iPad kan användas som ett pedagogiskt verktyg i undervisningen med avseende på multimodalitet, motivation och social interaktion i lärandemiljöer. Utgångspunkten i undersökningen har varit ett aktionsforskande förhållningssätt där jag tillsammans med lärare och elever i särskild undervisningsgrupp har undersökt iPad som pedagogisk verktyg i lärandet. Genom observationer och intervjuer på arbetsplatsen, studiebesök inom förskolan, en tematisk planeringsdag för pedagoger samt ett rikt omfång av aktuell forskning kring iPad i undervisningen kan man konstatera att iPad i sig själv inte är ett pedagogiskt verktyg utan kan ses som ett tomt skal som är multimodalt förberett men som kan fyllas med appar som är helt individuellt anpassade utifrån den enskilde elevens behov. Om två år har vi första generationens digitala elever i grundskolan där många har en förskoletid bakom sig med iPad som ett naturligt inslag. För att vi pedagoger ska fånga upp denna kunskap och låta den fortsätta bli en naturlig del av våra barn och ungas liv behöver vi se iPad som ett multifunktionellt verktyg, överbrygga våra digitala begränsningar och skapa en undervisning, som utgår från våra styrdokument, men som i större utsträckning uppmuntrar eleverna till delaktighet och formande av morgondagens lärande.

Abstract:
In today’s society, it becomes more common with tablets, that makes us interact with computers in a whole new way. For example these are used to read and write e-mails, surf the web and playing games. Another manner of use of these tablets is to read and edit PDF documents. PDF handling is often meant to be used in books and inregular text documents, but it could also be used in the management of drawings. An industry that would benefit greatly from the use of tablets for this purpose is the con- struction industry. By creating an application that not only serves as a standard PDF reader, but also can handle drawings by making annotations, synchronize them toa cloud service and mail these drawings to others. This would make the management of drawings more effective and this would also revolutionize this industry. This thesis presents the planning, implementation, results and also the challenges that were faced during the development of such a prototype. By using object-oriented analysis and design principles, extensive use of test cases and implementation in Objective-C interesting results have emerged. This report mainly turns to readers with interest or has a background in computer science.
I dagens samhälle blir det allt vanligare med surfplattor som får oss att interagera med datorer på ett helt nytt sätt. Dessa används t.ex. för att läsa och skriva e-postmeddelanden, surfa på webben och spela spel. Ett annat användningssätt av dessa surfplattor är att läsa och editera PDF-dokument. PDF-hantering är ofta tänkt att användas i böcker och i vanliga textdokument men ett användningsområde som det också skulle kunna användas inom är ritningshantering. En bransch som skulle ha stor nytta av att använda surfplattor i just detta syfte är byggbranschen. Genom att skapa en applikation som inte bara fungerar som en vanlig PDF-läsare, utan även kan behandla ritningar genom att i dessa kunna göra annoteringar, synkronisera dessa mot en molntjänst och maila dessa ritningar till andra så skulle ritningshanteringen inom byggbranschen effektiviseras både tidsmässigt och ur ett kostnadsperspektiv. Detta examensarbete presenterar bl.a. planeringen, implementeringen, resultatet men även de utmaningar som framkom vid skapandet av en sådan prototyp. Med användning av objektorienterade analys och design principer, utförlig användning av testfall och implementering i Objective-C så har intressanta resultat framkommit. Denna rapport vänder sig, i huvudsak, till läsare med datavetenskapligt intresse eller bakgrund.

Designen är gjord för att vara hållfast och tålig för miljön den utsätts för.Den är även ergonomisk, flexibel och användarvänlig. Den nya designen återspeglar Väderstadsvarumärke och kärnvärden.Övriga aktörer i projektet är Prodelox AB som hjälpt till med konstruktionsfrågor och handledning.Projektet inleds med en research-fas som innefattar insamlande av information och tester. Det följsav en kreativ fas med idéframtagning. I presentationsfasen tas det fram CAID-visualiseringar, enfysisk presentationsmodell samt rapport.

Probabilistic Safety Assessments (PSAs) are increasingly being used as a tool for supporting the acceptabilty of design, procurement, construction, operation, and maintenance activities at nuclear power plants. Since the issuance of Generic Letter 88-20 [1] and subsequent Individual Plant Examinations (IPEs)/Individual Plant Examinations for External Events (IPEEEs) [2], the NRC has issued several Regulatory Guides such as RG 1.182 [3] to describe the use of PSA in risk informed regulation activities. The PSA models developed for the IPEs were typically based on a “snapshot” of the the risk profile at the nuclear power plant. The IPE models contain implicit assumptions and simplifications that limit the ability to realistically assess current issues. For example, IPE modeling assumptions related to plant configuration limit the ability to perform online equipment out-of-service assessments. The lack of model symmetry results in skewed risk results. IPE model simplifications related to initiating events have resulted in non-conservative estimates of risk impacts when equipment is removed from service. The IPE models also do not explicitly address all external events that are potentially risk significant as equipment is removed from service.

Developing multiple-generation of products has become a mainstream tactic in today’s markets. The most notable case is Apple Inc.’s huge success with its iPod, iPhone and iPad product lines. Multiple-generation product lines require carefully planned strategies. Under a multiple-generation product development strategy, companies introduce a line of products to the market instead of introducing a single product to better utilize technology assets and resources in an elongated time span. For such product development and launch scenarios, cannibalization can occur, however. That is, multiple product generations compete in the same market and partition the company’s market shares. In the paper, we propose a new framework to predict the sales and introduction timing for every product generation in a multiple-generation product line while considering cannibalization. We demonstrate a case study implementing the proposed framework on Apple Inc.’s iPhone product line. The results show that the forecast performance of the model matches the realized real data.

Nowadays, the iPad tablet is the first choice by frequent users of new technologies. According to Nielsen Company, the iPad holds about 82% of tablet’s market share in the USA. Due to the multi-touch interface, the iPad can captivate the user since it allows interactivity, it is a friendly tool and the user’s interface is activated by our natural and most used pointer, the finger. The user easily learns how to work on this kind of technology because iPad has also an elegant and intuitive interface. These aspects, among others, make the iPad a relevant tool for work, study and leisure. Once Apple makes both hardware and operating system, it is possible to develop an application to take advantage of the iPad’s hardware. In this sense, the main idea of this project is to develop an iBook for iPad that will serve as a support tool to two Course Units of the MSc in Industrial Electronics and Computer Engineering (MIEEIC) at School of Engineering in University of Minho: Applied Mathematics (second year) and Digital Control (third year). A portable tool like the iPad is an asset to the student’s needs in learning process. In particular, the iBook for this project will really help and support the students and make their study easier when learning Digital Control and Applied Mathematics.
