Abstract:
<p>ABSTRACT</p><p><br />The objective of the experiment was to investigate the physical and chemical characteristic of eight genotypes of papaya i.e. IPB1, IPB 2A, IPB 3, IPB 3A, IPB 4, IPB 7, IPB 8, and IPB 9 on two stages of ripening period based on percentage of the yellow area of fruit peel (75% yellow and 100% yellow). The fruits were <br />picked at 25% yellow of fruit peel colour. The experiment was conducted in split plot wi th completely randomized block design. The main plot was ripening periods of 75% and 100% ripe, while the genotypes were taken at subplot. There was no significant different on physical and chemical characteristics between papaya at stadium 75% and 100% yellow. Flesh firmness of IPB 9 was better than IPB 1, IPB 4 and IPB 8. Ascorbic acid content of IPB 4 (107.36 mg/100 g) was higher than that of IPB 2A and IPB 3A. Carotenoid content of IPB 4 (29. 73 mg/100g) was higher than that of the other genotypes.</p><p><br />Key words: Carica papaya, physical characteristic, chemical characteristic, ascorbic acid, carotenoid</p>

Abstract:
O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho de clones de batata-doce cultivados em diferentes períodos. O delineamento experimental foi de blocos casualizados, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, com três repetições. Foram testados nas parcelas três períodos de cultivo (3, 5 e 7 meses), e nas subparcelas, cinco clones de batata-doce (acessos IBP-007, IBP-038, IBP-075, IBP-079 e IBP-149), e a cultivar comercial Brazlândia Rosada. As variáveis analisadas foram sobrevivência, danos causados por insetos de solos (notas de 1 a 5 onde 1= sem danos e 5= muitos danos, sem valor comercial), massa fresca e seca de parte aérea, produtividade total de raízes. Os maiores danos causados por insetos de solo observou-se no clone IBP-007 (4,29), e menores danos nos clones IPB-038 (2,84), IPB-075 (3,01) e IPB-149 (2,88), que apresentaram resistência no cultivo durante sete meses. O clone IPB-007 apresentou elevados valores de massa fresca (14,07 t/ha) e seca (2,81 t/ha) de parte aérea, em todos periodos de cultivo, apresentando também, alta produtividade de raizes (33,16 t/ha). Recomenda-se cultivar a batata doce durante um período de cinco meses.

Abstract:
Inorganic phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (IPB) are an important component of microbial populations in lake sediments. The phosphate that they decompose and release becomes an important source of phosphorus for eutrophic algae. The IPB strains were screened and isolated from the sediments of Sancha Lake using National Botanical Research Institute’s phosphate (NBRIP) plates. Their taxonomy was further determined by the 16S rDNA technique. The tricalcium phosphate-solubilizing ability of obtained IPB strains was evaluated using NBRIP- bromophenol blue (BPB) plates and Pikovskaya (PVK) liquid medium. Then, the ability of IPB strains to release phosphorus from the sediments were investigated by mimicking the lake environment. In this study, a total of 43 IPB strains were screened and isolated from the sediments of Sancha Lake, belonging to three phyla, eight families, and ten genera. Among them, two potentially new strains, SWSI1728 and SWSI1734, belonged to genus Bacillus, and a potentially new strain, SWSI1719, belonged to family Micromonosporaceae. Overall, the IBP strains were highly diverse and Bacillus and Paenibacillus were the dominant genera. In the tricalcium phosphate-solubilizing experiment, only 30 of the 43 IPB strains exhibited clear halo zones on plates, while in the liquid culture experiment, all strains were able to dissolve tricalcium phosphate. The phosphate-solubilizing abilities of the strains varied significantly, and the strain SWSI1725 of the Bacillus genus showed the strongest ability with a phosphate-solubilizing content of 103.57 mg/L. The sterilized systems demonstrated significantly elevated phosphorus hydrochloride (HCl–P) decomposition and release from the sediments after the inoculation of IPB strains, whereas no significant effect was demonstrated on the phosphonium hydroxide (NaOH-P). Thus, the IPB strains in the sediments of Sancha Lake possessed rich diversity and the ability to release phosphorus in sediments.

Abstract:
TURP is performed in 80% of cases of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH), but one of the alternative methods, which uses the photocoagulating energy of the laser beam and in particular the Nd-Yag, seems to be very promising. Used in prostates with a suitable weight (< 40 g) and in particular in high-risk patients with myocardiopathies and/or coagulative troubles, this source of energy, through fibres at right angles or in contact or interstitial, permits the photocoagulation or vaporisation of the prostatic tissue. Association of this technique with the usual TURP has been suggested in heavier prostates, for a quick return to spontaneous micturition. The absence of bleeding, retrograde ejaculation and more serious complications, plus the reduced time of hospitalisation make this a safe technique in selected cases.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to develop a protocol for thein vitroconservation of sweet potato genotypes using the slow growth technique. The first experiment was conducted in a4×5×2factorial scheme, testing four genotypes (IPB-007, IPB-052, IPB-072, and IPB-137), five concentrations of abscisic acid (ABA) (0.0, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0, and 8.0 mg·L−1), and two temperatures (18 and 25°C). The second experiment was conducted in a4×3×3factorial scheme at 18°C, testing four genotypes (IPB-007, IPB-052, IPB-072, and IPB-137), three variations of MS salts (50, 75, and 100%), and three concentrations of sucrose (10, 20, and 30 g·L−1). Every three months, we evaluated the survival (%), shoot height, and shoot viability.In vitroconservation of the sweet potato genotypes IPB-052 and IPB-007 was obtained over three and six months, respectively, using MS medium plus 2.0 mg·L−1of ABA at either 18 or 25°C. Genotypes IPB-072 and IPB-137 can be kept for three and six months, respectively, in MS medium without ABA at 18°C. It is possible to store IPB-052 and IPB-072 for six months and IPB-007 and IPB-137 for nine months using 30 g·L−1of sucrose and 50% MS salts.

<p>ABSTRACT</p><p><br />The purpose of this study was to estimate the narrow sense heritability (h2ns), broad sense heritability (h2bs), heterosis, and heterobioltiosis, coefficient of genetic variances, coefficient of phenotypic variances, additive and dominant variances. Pepper population used in this study consisted of IPB C2, IPB C9, IPB C10, IPB C15 and half diallel hybrid. To estimate the effect of reciprocal IPB C10 x IPB C2 hybrid was used. Accelerated aging method was used to test the vigor using methanol 20% in five periods of time 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 hours. Observations consisted of: (1) germination rate, (2) the length of radicle, (3) the length of hypocotile, (4) dry weight of normal seedlings, (5) speed of growth, (6) electrical conductivity and (7) moisture content. Genetic parameters were estimated using affinity analysis. Reciprocal effect indicated that there was no maternal effect. Parents with high combining ability was IPB C15 and that with high specific combining ability was IPB C2 x IPB C5 and gave positive heterosis.</p><p>Key words: pepper, genetic coefficient, heterosis, seed vigor, specific combining ability</p><p> </p><p>ABSTRAK</p><p><br />Penelitian ini bertujuan menduga nilai parameter genetik untuk viabilitas dan vigor benih cabai menggunakan metode persilangan setengah dialel untuk mendapatkan informasi nilai<br />heritabilitas, heterosis, koefisien keragaman genetik, varians aditif dan dominan, sehingga diharapkan dapat mendukung keberhasilan program pemuliaan yang mengkombinasikan karakter tanaman dengan viabilitas dan vigor benih yang baik. Empat genotipe tetua cabai yang digunakan adalah IPB C2, IPB C9, IPB C10, IPB C15, dan enam genotipe cabai hasil persilangan antar tetua adalah IPB C2 x IPB C9, IPB C2 x IPB C10, IPB C2 x IPB C15, IPB C9 x IPB C10, IPB C9 x IPB C15, IPB C10 x IPB C15. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Kelompok Lengkap Teracak (RKLT). Pengamatan untuk pengujian vigor dan viabilitas dilakukan pada genotipe tetua dan persilangan dengan tolok ukur yaitu (1) daya berkecambah (2) panjang akar, (3) panjang hipokotil, (4) bobot kering kecambah (5) kadar air benih, (6) kecepatan tumbuh (Kct), dan (7) daya hantar listrik (DHL). Pengujian vigor daya simpan benih cabai pada genotipe tetua dan persilangan menggunakan metode pengusangan cepat methanol 20%. Setelah pengujian vigor daya simpan benih dilakukan analisis varian dan analisis regressi dan analisis statistik biometrik. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa genotipe cabai IPB C15 mempunyai nilai daya gabung umum yang tinggi untuk vigor daya simpan benih sehingga dapat dijadikan sebagai tetua untuk perakitan varietas F1 hibrida vigor daya simpan benih tinggi. Kombinasi persilangan tetua IPB C2 x IPB C15 menghasilkan benih yang memiliki vigor daya simpan benih tinggi.</p><p>Kata kunci : cabai, daya gabung khusus, heterosis, koefisien genetik, vigor benih</p>

Abstract:
High genetic diversity in chili is the basis for a chili breeding program. One of the methods to increase diversity is through crossing. There are several crossing designs in order to produce new varieties, such as diallel crossing. Diallel analysis is a method for studying the inheritance of characteristics from various crossings. The aim of this research was to estimate the genetic parameters, the general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) of six inbred lines of chili. The research was conducted in November 2008-May 2009 at the Experimental Farm Leuwikopo IPB. Genetic materials used were six inbred lines of chili (IPB C2, IPB C9, IPB C10, IPB C14, IPB C15 and IPB C20) and the F1s of the combination of six inbred lines. The experimental design was Randomized Complete Block Design with a single factor, namely genotype. The number of genotypes were 36 with three replications, so there were 108 units of experiment. The crossing design used was diallel crossing design. The results showed that there were no interaction between genes on the dichotomous height and fruit weight, significant additive effects, the control genes spread unevenly, and relatively high heritability values. Genotype which carried recessive genes the most was IPB C14 and genotype which carried the most dominant genes was IPB C10. IPB C10 showed the highest GCA for dichotomous height and IPB C2 showed the highest GCA on fruit weight. The crossing between IPB C2 x IPB C10 showed the highest SCA for dichotomous height. For fruit weight, crossing of IPB C2x IPB C14 had the highest SCA. Crossing combination of IPB C2 x IPB C14 was the best hybrid.

Abstract:
<p>ABSTRACT</p><p>Commercial varieties of chili is still susceptible to anthracnose disease. Anthracnose is one of diseases which caused yield loss about 10-80% in rainy season and 2-35% in dry season. One of the disease control method is to develop new varieties resistant to anthracnose through gamma-ray irradiation. This research was aimed to determine radiosensitivity level and heritability of chili which generated by mutation inductions of three genotypes: IPB C2, IPB C10, and IPB C15. Seed of the three genotypes were irradiated by gamma rays at dosages of 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900 and 1,000 Gy. The LD50 in IPB C2, IPB C10, and IPB C15 were 317.9, 591.4, and 538.8 Gy, respectively. The character of IPB C2 mutants ranged between very susceptible to resistant against anthracnose disease, IPB C10 tended to very susceptible to highly resistant, and genotype IPB C15 tended to susceptible to highly resistant. Genotype IPB C2 had high level in heritability for disease resistance character, while medium level in heritability value was obtained on genotype IPB C10 and IPB C15.</p><p>Keywords: genotype, LD50, mutant, mutation, seed</p>

Abstract:

Högkvarteret beslutade 2004 att interoperabilitet med Natos metoder har högsta prioritet i Försvarsmakten. Därför är underrättelsemetoden Intelligence Preparation of the Battlespace (IPB) vägledande för svensk underrättelsetjänsts framtagande av beslutsunderlag. Försvarsmaktens underrättelsehandbok betraktar dock IPB som en inte ”i alla avseenden tydlig” metod. Eftersom krigföring inom mark-, luft- och den maritima arenan karaktäriseras av olika faktorer, vilka ej framgår i IPB, existerar här ett problemområde. Uppsatsen behandlar problemområdet inom den maritima arenan på taktisk nivå. Syftet är att undersöka IPB-metodens genomförande och innehåll då den genomförs för att tillgodose ett ytstridsförbands taktiska underrättelsebehov. Uppsatsens frågeställningar söker svar på hur den maritima arenan respektive sjökrigföring generellt påverkar innehållet i, samt genomförandet av, IPB-metoden.

Studiens teoretiska grund utgörs av IPB-metoden, vilken främst används till att strukturera undersökningen. Uppsatsen genomförs med kvalitativ innehållsanalys av svensk marin doktrin, reglementen, handböcker samt modern litteratur om sjökrigföring på taktisk nivå. Dessa källor skall ge perspektiv på IPB-metoden och dess respektive steg.

En allmängiltig grundsats gällande sjökrigföring är att den som anfaller effektivt först vinner striden. Uppsatsen har funnit att IPB-metoden, vilken syftar till bedömning av motståndarens farligaste respektive troligaste handlingsvägar, speglar detta axiom bristfälligt. Om IPB, då den genomförs i en marin kontext, istället koncentreras mot den duellsituation som är karaktäristisk för sjökrigföring, skapas ett beslutsunderlag som bättre överensstämmer med vad litteraturen förordar. En sådan förändring i fokus för IPB förändrar hela metoden i grunden.


The purpose of the study is to examine the use of the NATO method known as Intelligence Preparation of the Battlespace (IPB), since the Swedish Armed Forces Headquarters in 2004 decided that interoperability with NATO methods is of high priority.

Combat on the ground, in the air and at sea is characterized by different factors. This circumstance is however not very clear in the Swedish interpretation of IPB. This shortcoming constitutes the problem that this study has looked into. IPB will be examined from a naval point of view at a tactical level. The question that has been asked is how naval tactical combat and the maritime environment influence the use of IPB.

The study uses the IPB-method itself as theoretical framework. Swedish doctrine, naval regulations and handbooks as well as modern literature on naval combat have been analysed in order to give perspectives on IPB. 

It is common knowledge today that the essence of success in naval combat at a tactical level is to attack effectively first. The main conclusion is, however, that IPB, which focuses on estimates of the adversary’s courses of action, reflects this maxim poorly. The results of the study show that the intelligence output would be more adequate if IPB, when used in a naval tactical context, was concentrated on an analysis of the duel between ships.

Abstract:
Effective wastewater treatment is needed to reduce the water pollution problem. However, massive energy is consumed in wastewater treatment, required to design an innovative system to reduce the energy consumption to solve the energy crisis. Integrated photobioelectrochemical system (IPB) is a powerful system to combine microbial fuel cells (MFCs) and algal bioreactor together. This system has good performance on the organic degradation, removal of nitrogen and phosphorus, and recover the bioenergy via electricity generation and algal harvesting. This dissertation is divided to twelve chapters, about various aspects of the working mechanisms and actual application of IPB. Chapter 1 generally introduces the working mechanisms of MFCs, algal bioreactor, and modeling. Chapter 2 demonstrates the improvement of cathode material to improve the structure and catalytic performance to improve the MFC performance. Chapter 3 describes the process to use microbial electrolysis cell (MEC) to generate biohythane for the energy recovery. Chapters 4 and 5 demonstrate the application of stable isotope probing to study Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 in the MFCs. Chapters 6 to 8 describe the application of models to optimize MFC and IPB system performance. Chapter 9 describes the strategy improvement for the algal harvesting in IPB. Chapter 10 describes the application of scale-up bioelectrochemical systems on the long-term wastewater treatment. Chapter 11 finally concludes the perspectives of IPBs in the wastewater treatment and energy recovery. This dissertation comprehensively introduces IPB systems in the energy recovery and sustainable wastewater treatment in the future.

The never ending argument among linguists and teachers about whether reading difficulties of the non native speakers of English are a reading problem or a language problem is an interesting study to start with. This was one of the questions examined in the study leading to the development of an ESP syllabus for undergraduate students at Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). Chapter One outlines the current English course at IPB where the focus of language teaching is on teaching grammar and reading. Chapter Two looks at the theoretical background and the development of ESP as well as the role of the ESP teachers which is different from the role of General English teachers. Since reading is the only target skill students need to acquire, Chapter Three looks at the theory of reading, outlines necessary reading skills and examines a 'good1 reading teacher. Chapter Four consists of a study and its analysis into whether difficulties in reading is a reading problem or a language problem. These findings are expected to give a clearer idea to the teachers of reading about the problems encountered by the students in reading English texts so they can decide whether the focus of the course should be on grammar development or reading development. Chapter Five discusses several types of syllabus as well as relating to the importance of needs analysis in designing a course, and suggests an outline syllabus for the IPB students i.e. the proportional syllabus including the profile of communication needs, aims and objectives of the course, language content, and the syllabus content.

Este estudo avaliou a qualidade dos preparos de boca para confecção de próteses parciais removíveis (PPRs), comparando os preparos realizados na graduação da Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade de São Paulo (FOUSP), sob supervisão de Docentes, com os preparos realizados por cirurgiões dentistas que solicitaram a confecção dessas próteses a dois laboratórios de Prótese Dentária de São Paulo. As análises foram realizadas em 92 modelos de trabalho, divididos em dois grupos: grupo I, modelos obtidos de pacientes que foram reabilitados na Disciplina de Prótese Removível da FOUSP, por alunos de graduação, e grupo II, modelos obtidos de pacientes que foram reabilitados por vários profissionais, e que foram recolhidos dos referidos laboratórios. Foi utilizado como instrumento de avaliação, o Índice de Preparo de Boca modificado (IPB), com o objetivo de avaliar comparativamente, os dois grupos, quanto a Distribuição, Localização e Forma dos descansos oclusais e de cíngulo; Presença, Distribuição e Paralelismo dos planos-guia; Características dos pontos de calibragem; e a diferença estatística dos valores do IPB, entre os grupos. Ainda foi investigada a prevalência da classificação de Kennedy (para pacientes desdentados parciais), nos dois grupos de modelos. O método estatístico utilizado foi o teste não paramétrico de Mann-Whitney. Baseado nos resultados encontrados, concluiu-se que os preparos de boca dos trabalhos realizados na Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade de São Paulo (grupo I, modelos-USP) foram significativamente melhores do que aqueles elaborados por profissionais, cirurgiões dentistas que enviaram os modelos de seus pacientes aos laboratórios, para confecção de PPRs (grupo II, modelos-Laboratórios). Não houve associação estatisticamente significante entre os grupos de modelos no que se refere à classificação de Kennedy.
This study analysed the quality of mouth preparations for manufacturing removable parcial dentures (RPDs) by comparing preparations made by undergraduates at Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidade de São Paulo (FOUSP) working under the supervision of staff teachers with preparations made by dentist surgeons who had sent prostheses to two dental prosthesis laboratories in São Paulo for manufacturing. Analyses were carried out in 92 models divided in two groups: group I, models obtained from patients rehabilitated by undergraduates in the subject Removable Prosthesis at FOUSP and group II, models obtained from patients rehabilitated by several professional dentist surgeons and collected at the two laboratories mentioned above. The instrument of assessment used was the modified Mouth Preparation Ratio (IPB), aiming at assessing the two groups comparatively concerning the Distribution, Location and shape of rest bite and cingulum occlusion, Presence, Distribution and Paralelism of guide planes; Characteristics of the calibration points; and the statistical difference in IPB values between the two model groups. The prevalence of the Kennedy classification (for parcially toothless patients) was also investigated in both model groups. The statitical method used in both groups was the Mann-Whitney non-parametric test. Based on the results achieved, it was concluded that mouth preparations made at Faculdade de Odontologia da Universidede de São Paulo (group I, USP models) were significantly better than those made by professional dentist surgeons who had sent their patients models to the dental laboratories for manufacturing RPDs (group II, lab models). There was no statistically significant association between both groups concerning the Kennedy classification.

Esta dissertação busca investigar a existência de uma Teologia Reformada brasileira no âmbito da eclesiologia e da relação com a cultura, trabalhando com a Igreja Presbiteriana do Brasil como base de dados para tal investigação. Na primeira parte, pesquisa-se como se formou o reformador João Calvino e que relação a sua formação humanista teve com os ensinos que desenvolveu, bem como tais ensinos poderiam ser aplicados à Teologia Reformada brasileira, escolhendo-se a graça comum para entender a relação com a cultura e buscando-se compreender a abrangência de sua eclesiologia. Na segunda parte, calvinismo, puritanismo e neopuritanismo são analisados sob a perspectiva de compreenderem-se possíveis rupturas ou continuidades. Tais situações serão verificadas na influência cultural do silogismo prático dos calvinistas e da relação de Calvino e dos puritanos com a ciência. A terceira parte apresenta Richard Shaull como contraponto ao modo de ser reformado designado como neopuritano, aplicado à boa parte dos reformados brasileiros da IPB, na medida em que tenta construir uma Teologia Reformada da revolução, que seus seguidores, possivelmente seu maior legado, transformariam em Teologia da Libertação. Ele será comparado em sua visão eclesiológica com Ashbel Green Simonton, pioneiro da IPB no Brasil. Por fim, à guisa de conclusão, a quarta e última parte estudará a construção da atual Teologia Reformada da IPB, sua possível relação com o fundamentalismo, a partir dos puritanos ou não, e acima de tudo o grande receio quanto a sua brasilidade, buscando pistas para responder que tipo de eclesiologia afinal tem produzido a Teologia Reformada da IPB.
This dissertation seeks to investigate the existence of a Brazilian Reformed Theology in the area of ecclesiology and its relation to culture by using the Presbyterian Church of Brazil as the object of investigation. The first part investigates how the reformer John Calvin was educated and how his humanism related to the teaching he developed, as also its possible application to Brazilian Reformed Theology, choosing common Grace to understand this relation to culture in seeking to understand how wide was its influence in his ecclesiology. In the second part, Calvinism, Puritanism and Neopuritanism are analyzed toward possible divisions or continuity. Such situations will be studied as a possible cultural influence of the practical rationalization of the Calvinists and of the relation of Calvin and the puritans with science. The third part presents Richard Shaull as a contradiction to the style of being reformed neopuritans, applical to a good part of the Brazilian reformed of the Presbyterian Church of Brazil, to the extent that he attempted to construct a Reformed Theology of Revolution that his followers, perhaps his major contribution, could transform into a Theology of Liberation. His ecclesiastical vision will be compared to that of Ashbel Green Simonton, pioneer of the Presbyterian Church of Brazil. The fourth and final part will study the construction of Reformed Theology in the Presbyterian Church of Brazil today, its possible relation to fundamentalism, beginning or not with the puritans, above all a real fear as to its Brazilianity, seeking ways to respond to the kind of ecclesiology the Reformed Theology of the Presbyterian Church of Brazil has produced.

Understanding of business processes is becoming an important key factor for successful businesses and today many organizations are facing the lack of knowledge about the business processes that they are working on. Since the interaction between different business processes and different actors are becoming more common it is not only enough for employees to have knowledge about the business processes that they involve directly, but also they need to know about the other business processes in the organization. Unfortunately there is not enough research on this topic in the literature and the goal of this thesis is to propose a method for solving the indicated problem by increasing the understanding of business processes by the employees in an organization. The proposed method basically contains the design and execution of process models based on a real scenario. A case study has been conducted at an IT company where the employees have no or limited knowledge about the business processes that their organization works on. Even though the method has been only tested in one organization it is generic and can be applied to any other similar organization. The design science approach is used to develop the method and build the process models as artifacts. The process models have been verified by using an executable business modeling tool, iPB, and presented to the employees in a seminar in order to make them to understand the business processes better. The knowledge of the employees about the business processes has been analyzed before and after the presentation, thus we could compare the results and find out how much their knowledge has increased after the presentation. The results have shown that the knowledge of the employees has increased significantly. In conclusion, the method of design and presentation of executable business process models has been proved to be a solution to the problem of not understanding of business processes in an organization well enough.

This study, within the framework of improving the English course for postgraduate level at IPB (Bogor Institute of Agriculture), attempts to determine the extent of English reading activities for academic purposes expected by agricultural teaching staff at post graduate level, different expectations across the study programs or a particular area of specialised discipline, the extent of English problems experienced by postgraduate students and the strategies used to cope with English needs in their postgraduate studies, to test a hypothesis that there is a positive correlation between the students' command/scores of English and their achievements/scores in agricultural subjects. Questionnaires for agricultural staff and students were adapted from Hughes (1988) and Weir (1988) to address these questions. Students' academic records were obtained to compute the correlation between scores in English and agricultural subjects. Review of literature and research in current theories of reading in EFL is given to serve as a theoretical foundation to discuss English reading lessons from secondary level to tertiary level in Indonesia and to provide general implications to improve the English course at IPB. The results indicate that staff reading expectation in English is high in comparison to the students' level of English and in that all eight types of reading activities listed in the questionnaires were expected. There are some different expectations across the study programs. However, the most relevant finding to note in regard to the the English course is that reading English texts as review of literature for research proposes and reading English texts for writing assignments were expected across all the study programs. It is also found that reading English texts for academic purposes was still a problem for the majority of student respondents and there are various interesting reading strategies used by the student to cope with the English needs of their studies. However, further investigation is essential to assist the students with reading problems since the results do not specify the nature of reading problems and methods used by the respondents. A significant correlation is found between scores in English and agricultural subjects at the level of 5% and 1% by the Spearman rank- order and the Pearson product-moment correlation formulas. This implies that English is central to the students' success in their postgraduate studies, which is also supported by the student respondents' opinions. General implications and suggestions are provided to assist postgraduate with reading problems and to improve the English course for the students.

As doenças transmitidas por alimentos provocam perdas humanas, sociais e econômicas, sendo que, para a prevenção de suas ocorrências, a higienização (limpeza e desinfecção) do ambiente de processamento e manipulação é procedimento de relevante importância. Para promover a segurança microbiológica dos alimentos, os compostos inorgânicos liberadores de cloro livre estão entre os desinfetantes químicos mais utilizados. No entanto, as evidências indicam que não há agente químico antimicrobiano frente aos quais os microrganismos não apresentem ou não possam ser selecionados por algum grau de resistência. Para obter dados sobre a ação do cloro como barreira sanitária, o objetivo deste trabalho foi o de verificar, frente ao hipoclorito de sódio, a sensibilidade de 32 amostras de Staphylococcus aureus isoladas no IPB/LACEN/RS de alimentos envolvidos em surtos de DTA entre os anos 2002 e 2006. Através do teste de suspensão, simularam-se condições de uso: concentração de 200 ppm de cloro livre, na ausência e na presença de matéria orgânica (1% de leite U.H.T. integral); subconcentração de 100 ppm de cloro livre; e quatro tempos de contato (5, 10, 15 e 30 minutos). A 200 ppm, na ausência de matéria orgânica, as 32 amostras foram sensíveis, sendo que, aos 10 minutos, 31 delas já estavam inativadas. A 200 ppm, na presença de matéria orgânica, mesmo aos 30 minutos de contato, 27 foram resistentes. Com 100 ppm de cloro livre, foram necessários 30 minutos de contato para que 24 amostras apresentassem sensibilidade. Concluiu-se que a sensibilidade das amostras foi influenciada pela concentração, pela presença de matéria orgânica e pelo tempo de contato. Considerando as condições do experimento quanto à efetividade do cloro como barreira sanitária em DTA, frente ao Staphylococcus aureus, esses três fatores precisam ser levados em consideração.
Foodborne diseases cause human, social and economic losses. Their ocurrence can be avoided chiefly by cleaning and disinfection measures in processing and manipulation premises. Inorganic chlorine compounds are among the most common chemical disinfectants used to promote microbiological food safety. However, evidences indicate that microorganisms are capable to present or develop some degree of resistance to practically every known chemical agent. So, in order to obtain data regarding chlorine compounds as a sanitary barrier, this work evaluated the sensitivity, to sodium hypochlorite, of 32 samples of Staphylococcus aureus isolated at IPB-LACEN/RS from food involved in foodborne diseases outbreaks occurred between 2002-2006. Through the suspension test, usage conditions were simulated: a 200 ppm free chlorine solution in the absence and presence of organic matter (1% UHT whole milk); a subconcentration of 100 ppm free chlorine solution; and four contact times (5, 10, 15 and 30 minutes). At the concentration of 200 ppm, in absence of organic matter, all the 32 samples were sensitive. After 10 minutes,31 of them were already inactivated. At 200 ppm, in presence of organic matter, 27 strains were resistant even after a contact of 30 minutes. At 100 ppm free chlorine concentration, simulating a sub concentration usage, it was necessary a 30 minutes contact to 24 samples demonstrate some sensitivity. It was concluded that the sensitivity of samples was influenced by concentration, presence of organic matter and contact time. In view of the experimental conditions relative to chlorine efficacy as a sanitary barrier, in foodborne diseases associated to Staphylococcus aureus, these three factors must be considered.

As part of the TOTAL E&P Angola (TEPA) PAZFLOR development, two 10” Integrated Production Bundle (IPB) flexible risers have been installed to connect the Pipe-In-Pipe Oligocene loop to the FPSO. While IPB risers have first been implemented on the nearby DALIA development, the PAZFLOR IPB had to accommodate much higher design and operating temperatures. From the on-set of the project, focus was put on improving the design of this second generation of IPB and ensuring that all the lessons learnt from DALIA were addressed from a design, manufacturing and installation point of view. The paper presents the main elements of the IPB design as well as the comprehensive set of specific qualification tests performed during the course of the project. Indeed new materials were qualified, a new end fitting design for the bundle was implemented and various mechanical and thermal full scale tests were performed. Both risers have now been successfully installed and commissioned further proving that IPB flexible risers are a technical and cost effective solution to address the flow assurance challenges of deep water production fluid recovery.

The Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB) developed an online survey, called the Observatory of Students and Graduates, aimed at entities in Portugal as a means of gathering information about the stakeholders view of IPB graduates and students, regarding skills for employability. Of the total (424) entities contacted, 118 responded, representing 28% of the total. It was noted that 79 of the responses have included IPB students and graduates in their staff, being 27% entities of the Agroforestry-food sector, 16% from the Consulting, Real Estate and Finance sector, and 14% from the Transport and Commerce sector. IPB graduates and students’s skills were discussed from the perspective of employers. 12 skills were listed, with an average of 95% of responses between "Very Important" and "Important".´The skills that stood out the most were: “Learning” and “Motivation/Involvement”. The lowest priority skills were: “Physical: Robustness and manual dexterity”, followed by “General Culture”. These data point to the clear fact that the soft skills have greater relevance than hard skills. One of the justifications is that the advent of artificial intelligence, and other technologies that have been performing functions that overlap with technical - human knowledge.

The higher education institutions use scientific and multidisciplinary electronic publication with an anonymous review process and free access to spread technical and scientific knowledge. The Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (IPB) has two electronic journals with the aim of provoking, in young people, the search for wisdom, scientific spirit, respect for authorship and boosting reading and writing skills. This paper presents an exploratory research that evaluated the student's production and publication from IPB by applying a questionary about scientific literacy in the first semester of the 2020/2021 academic year. Participated 102 individuals, majority women, with Portuguese nationality, undergraduate students from Higher School of Education of IPB. The analysis revealed that 71 (69,6%) students have difficulties linked to reading and comprehension skills, just as 82 (80,4%) with scientific writing. That aspect may concern a shortage that debate characteristics of scientific reading, interpretation, and publication. Also, 85 (83.3%) students had not yet published any article, which may require scientific literacy for a better understanding of the scientific method. However, it was possible to note several other types of production developed within the scope of school activities, which may come to stimulate scientific literacy.

No âmbito do Estágio de Iniciação Científica proporcionado pela plataforma de empreendedorismo, empregabilidade e inovação formativa do Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (IPB), desenvolveu-se o projeto “IPB: uma realidade aumentada” que pretendeu disponibilizar uma experiência de realidade aumentada na cidade de Bragança em geral, e no IPB em particular. A ideia central do projeto passou pelo desenvolvimento de uma aplicação que pretendeu levar o utilizador a todos os pontos importantes não só das escolas do IPB mas também da cidade e, quando fisicamente nesses locais, poder aumentar a sua experiência com conteúdos que lhe são apresentados pela aplicação de realidade aumentada. A metodologia de desenvolvimento correspondeu essencialmente na prototipagem rápida da aplicação e na análise e projeto de sistemas numa abordagem iterativa e incremental. Esta aplicação tem duas versões. Uma que funciona com a localização por GPS ativa, apostando na mobilidade através das bicicletas Xispa, existentes em diversos pontos de Bragança e localizadas através do Google maps. A outra que funciona totalmente integrada, sem localização GPS, de modo a que quem esteja distante da cidade de Bragança também possa usufruir desta realidade aumentada. Depois de concluído o projeto, o mesmo foi avaliado através de um estudo de caso que incidiu na observação da sua utilização e no preenchimento de um inquérito por diferentes tipos de discentes e docentes em mobilidade internacional. Salienta-se que a maioria dos inquiridos classificou a aplicação como muito útil e necessária para os alunos e professores em mobilidade. O aspeto apontado como menos interessante foi a necessidade de ser estabelecido o link para a aplicação através do código QR (QR code) na aplicação com a localização por GPS ativa.
