Abstract:
In practice, an inverted pendulum can be used to model many real structures as the arms of robots, soil structures, or fluid structures. However, the study on the design of dynamic vibration absorber for inverted pendulum structures is very limited in the literature. To the best knowledge of the authors, however, there has been no study on the dynamic vibration absorber when the primary inverted pendulum structure is damped. This paper deals with the optimization problem of dynamic vibration absorber for inverted pendulum structures. Two novel findings of the present study are summarized as follows. First, the optimal parameters of dynamic vibration absorber for undamped inverted pendulum structures are given by using \(H_{\infty }\) optimization. Second, the authors suggest a so-called global-local approach to determine approximate expressions for optimal parameters of a pendulum type absorber attached to a damped inverted pendulum structure. Finally, a numerical simulation is done for an example of the articulated tower in the ocean to validate the effectiveness of the results obtained in this work.

Abstract Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are attracting widespread attention for their emerging regulatory, transcriptional, epigenetic, structural and various other functions. Comprehensive transcriptome analysis has revealed that retrotransposon elements (REs) are transcribed and enriched in lncRNA sequences. However, the functions of lncRNAs and the molecular roles of the embedded REs are largely unknown. The secondary and tertiary structures of lncRNAs and their embedded REs are likely to have essential functional roles, but experimental determination and reliable computational prediction of large RNA structures have been extremely challenging. We report here the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)-based secondary structure determination of the 167-nt inverted short interspersed nuclear element (SINE) B2, which is embedded in antisense Uchl1 lncRNA and upregulates the translation of sense Uchl1 mRNAs. By using NMR ‘fingerprints’ as a sensitive probe in the domain survey, we successfully divided the full-length inverted SINE B2 into minimal units made of two discrete structured domains and one dynamic domain without altering their original structures after careful boundary adjustments. This approach allowed us to identify a structured domain in nucleotides 31–119 of the inverted SINE B2. This approach will be applicable to determining the structures of other regulatory lncRNAs.

Abstract:
A new type of twinning occurring in intergrowth tungsten bronzes (ITB) is described, revealed by high-resolution electron microscopy. Across the twin boundary the two structure elements of hexagonal tungsten bronze- and tetragonally distorted ReO3-types are interchanged and grow in strict geometrical relationship to each other. The structure is thus `inverted' and in the general case the two `twin' parts represent different members of the structure family. Some members remain invariant upon inversion, however. This defect is most often seen as ribbons in an ITB matrix in Mo-doped samples Cs x Mo y Wl−y O3, which require a lower synthesis temperature than pure tungsten bronzes. They may be frozen-in stages of a slow ordering process. A similar type of twinning might be found in other intergrowth structures.

To improve the high-temperature rutting resistance of asphalt pavements, an inverted asphalt pavement structure (IAPS), 4 cm AC-13 mixture + 8 cm AC-25 mixture + 6 cm AC-20 mixture + 54 cm cement-stabilized macadam, was proposed herein by considering engineering practice, theoretical calculation, and analysis. A rutting prediction equation of asphalt pavements was then proposed via rut-development trends found by laboratory 18 cm thick rutting test. Subsequently, the rutting resistance of the IAPS was evaluated. The results show that, compared with the traditional asphalt pavement structure (TAPS), 4 cm AC-13 mixture + 6 cm AC-20 mixture + 8 cm AC-25 mixture + 54 cm cement-stabilized macadam, the maximum shear stress of the IAPS can be reduced by ∼1.7% along with improvements in rutting resistance by ∼16% and ∼12% under wheel loads of 0.7 and 1.2 MPa, respectively. Wheel-load increase affects the rutting resistance of both structures in a similar manner: when the wheel load increases from 0.7 MPa to 1.2 MPa, the rut depths of both pavement structures increase by at least 63%. The IAPS clearly has better rutting resistance than the TAPS and is thus the better choice for asphalt pavement structure design.

In order to improve the accuracy of modulus inversion of the pavement structure layer, a layer-by-layer inversion method was proposed to be compared with the traditional inversion method by inverting the modulus of each structural layer of the inverted asphalt pavement and semirigid asphalt pavement. The results show that the influence of cushion modulus on the modulus of inverted subgrade and modulus of cement-stabilized crushed stone is restricted by the cushion modulus and pavement structure characteristics, and the thicker cement-stabilized crushed stone layer is beneficial for improving inverted modulus of subgrade; besides, for the inverted asphalt pavement, the modulus of the graded crushed stone transition layer has a significant influence on the modulus inversion of cement-stabilized crushed stone. The modulus of the graded gravel transition layer inverted by these two methods is underestimated, the modulus of cement-stabilized gravel is overestimated using the traditional inversion method, and the inversion result of the inverted asphalt pavement is more significantly affected by the inversion method than the semirigid base asphalt pavement. Moreover, the modulus of the pavement structural layer is determined by the material and structural characteristics, and its recommended empirical value or the value in the indoor test does not conform to the actual value of the site; by contrast, the inversion modulus obtained using the layer-by-layer inversion method is closer to the actual value, which can be used in the design of similar pavement structures to accumulate data for determining the material modulus or the pavement structure adjustment coefficient in the pavement structure.

Reduction of two different precious metal ions by refluxing in ethanol/water in the presence of poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) (PVP) gave a colloidal dispersion of core/shell structured bimetallic nanoparticles. In the case of Pd and Au ions, for example, the colloidal dispersions of bimetallic nanoparticles with a Au core/Pd shell structure are produced. In contrast, it is difficult to synthesize bimetallic nanoparticles with the inverted core/shell (in this case, Pd core/Au shell) structure. Here the sacrificial hydrogen strategy has been used to construct the inverted core/shell structure, where the colloidal dispersions of Pd cores are treated with hydrogen and then the solution of the second element, Au ions, is slowly added to the dispersions. This novel method, developed by us, gave the inverted core/shell structured bimetallic nanoparticles. The Pd core/Au shell structure has been confirmed by FT-IR spectra of adsorbed carbon monoxide. The hydrogenation of methyl acrylate catalyzed by the nanoparticles before and after heat treatment was investigated as well.

Abstract:
The structure design and mechanistic calculation of inverted asphalt pavements are mainly based on linear layer elastic theory with the assumption that the cement-treated subbase (CTB) is complete without cracks. This study investigates the optimal structure combination for inverted pavements according to calculated critical responses considering cracks in the CTB layer. A three-dimensional finite element (3D FE) model of inverted pavement with a transverse crack through the CTB layer was developed. Four full-scale inverted pavement sections were built, and a crack 0.01 m wide and 0.05 m deep was sawn on top of each CTB layer after construction. The 3D FE model was validated by strain and deformation measured in falling weight deflectometer tests and used for a parametric study of dominating structure combination factors. Variance analysis results show that interactions with thickness or stiffness of the asphalt concrete (AC) layer presented the most significant effect on critical responses, while CTB stiffness (12588~7668 MPa) had the least impact. Structure variation effect analysis results illustrated that 0.1 m aggregate base (AB) thickness is enough to prevent the CTB crack propagating to the surface. Thin AC structures are highly sensitive to variations in AC and AB stiffness. A thin AC and AB combination (0.05 and 0.10 m) can provide low critical strains similar to a thick AC and thin AB (0.15 and 0.10 m) combination if the stiffness of AC and AB can be maintained at 7175 and 358 Mpa, respectively, or higher. AC thickness of 0.1 m and the combination of thin AC and thick AB are two unfavorable conditions for inverted pavements.

This article is an empirical analysis of the relations between financial structure and theurban–rural income gap (URIG) in China’s economic transition, based on the country’sdouble dual structure. We employ data of 31 provinces in China from 2001 to 2016 toempirically study the influence of financial structure on the URIG. We find an invertedU-shaped relation between financial scale and the URIG, a positive impact of urbanand rural financial structure on the URIG, and an inverted U-shaped relation betweenthe mismatch of financial resources and the URIG. These findings show that selectionof the optimal proportion of the state-owned economy through ownership reform andthe promotion of financial development and optimization of the allocation of financialresources are two effective ways to reduce the URIG.

Through the simulation and calculation of the flow field of oxidation ditch that pushed by the blade, based on the fluid-structure interaction analysis, the reliability of the impeller blades has been studied. All the results showing that the new type inverted umbrella surface aerator blade is reliable.

A new type of inverted hysteresis loop was observed in an amorphous SiN/GdFeCoSi/SiN film, in which a magnetic GdFeCoSi layer with a thickness of 40 nm was sandwiched by SiN capping and buffer layers 5 nm thick. An inverted hysteresis loop with negative remanence appeared, when an applied field was perpendicular to the film plane, with remanance ratio of 0.4 and HC=120 Oe. An FMR experiment study showed that two magnetic phases existed in the system. A major magnetic phase had an easy-plane anisotropy and the other minor magnetic phase had an easy-normal anisotropy. By assuming an antiferromagnetic exchange coupling between them, the inverted loops can be explained.

Purpose – The paper aims to propose an effective method to process keyword-based queries over graph-structured databases which are widely used in various applications such as XML, semantic web, and social network services. To satisfy users' information need, it proposes an extended answer structure for keyword queries, inverted list indexes on keywords and nodes, and query processing algorithms exploiting the inverted lists. The study aims to provide more effective and relevant answers to a given query than the previous approaches in an efficient way. Design/methodology/approach – A new relevance measure for nodes to a given keyword query is defined in the paper and according to the relevance metric, a new answer tree structure is proposed which has no constraint on the number of keyword nodes chosen for each query keyword. For efficient query processing, an inverted list-style index is suggested which pre-computes connectivity and relevance information on the nodes in the graph. Then, a query processing algorithm based on the pre-constructed inverted lists is designed, which aggregates list entries for each graph node relevant to given keywords and identifies top-k root nodes of answer trees most relevant to the given query. The basic search method is also enhanced by using extend inverted lists which store additional relevance information of the related entries in the lists in order to estimate the relevance score of a node more closely and to find top-k answers more efficiently. Findings – Experiments with real datasets and various test queries were conducted for evaluating effectiveness and performance of the proposed methods in comparison with one of the previous approaches. The experimental results show that the proposed methods with an extended answer structure produce more effective top-k results than the compared previous method for most of the queries, especially for those with OR semantics. An extended inverted list and enhanced search algorithm are shown to achieve much improvement on the execution performance compared to the basic search method. Originality/value – This paper proposes a new extended answer structure and query processing scheme for keyword queries on graph databases which can satisfy the users' information need represented by a keyword set having various semantics.

In order to study the problem of stability-losing load of the super-big crane jib with the inverted-V shape, this paper completed theoretical analysis, simulation and verification. Based on the stability-losing load formula considering shearing-force influence of compressed solid column, the limit load formula of the inverted-V combinatorial jib was obtained. Then, the method of force was applied to getting the shear angle formula of the inverted-V combinatorial jib under unit shear load. After using the proved formulas and software SAP2000 in linear buckling analysis of 28 combinatorial jibs consisting of two kinds of typical-section rods, the results demonstrated that: As for combinatorial structure consisting of cross-shaped web members, the error between results of the proved limit load formula and finite element calculation was within-5% when the aspect ratio of the inverted-V combinatorial jib was above 3.

Abstract Inverted repeats are common DNA elements, but they rarely overlap with protein-coding sequences due to the ensuing conflict with the structure and function of the encoded protein. We discovered numerous perfect inverted repeats of considerable length (up to 284 bp) embedded within the protein-coding genes in mitochondrial genomes of four Nematomorpha species. Strikingly, both arms of the inverted repeats encode conserved regions of the amino acid sequence. We confirmed enzymatic activity of the respiratory complex I encoded by inverted repeat-containing genes. The nucleotide composition of inverted repeats suggests strong selection at the amino acid level in these regions. We conclude that the inverted repeat-containing genes are transcribed and translated into functional proteins. The survey of available mitochondrial genomes reveals that several other organisms possess similar albeit shorter embedded repeats. Mitochondrial genomes of Nematomorpha demonstrate an extraordinary evolutionary compromise where protein function and stringent secondary structure elements within the coding regions are preserved simultaneously.

Pada kasus ini sistem struktur baja yang digunakan yakni Sistem Rangka Bresing Konsentrik Khusus menggunakan bresing tipe Inverted-V. Dalam tugas akhir ini dilakukan perencanaan struktur baja bertingkat 12, 16 dan 20 lantai yang dimana nantinya juga dilakukan evaluasi kinerja struktur bangunan menggunakan analisis pushover untuk menentukan struktur bangunan yang paling efektif dalam perencanaan struktur menggunakan bresing Inverted-V. Dalam tugas akhir ini, didapat level kinerja struktur pada struktur baja bertingkat 12, 16 dan 20 lantai berada pada kinerja Immediate Occupancy (IO). Dari hasil-hasil analisis yang diperoleh dapat disimpulkan bahwa struktur baja bertingkat 12 lantai menggunakan bresing konsentrik tipe Inverted-V memiliki perioda struktur yang paling kecil dan berat struktur yang lebih kecil dibandingkan sistem rangka bresing struktur lainnya. Kata kunci: struktur baja, pushover, kinerja struktur ABSTRACT Steel construction is an alternative that can be used in the construction of tall buildings. One way to increase the rigidity of a building by installing the bracing. In this case the steel structure system that will be used is the Steel Special Concentrically using Inverted-V type bracing. In this thesis, steel structure planning of 12, 16 and 20-storey will be carried out, which will also evaluate the performance of the building structure using pushover analysis to determine the most effective structure in the structure planning using Inverted-V bracing. In this thesis, it obtained the level structural performance in steel structure 12, 16 and 20-storey floors are in the performance of Immediate Occupancy (IO). From the result of the analysis that was obtained, it can be concluded that the 12-storey steel structure steel structure using concentrically Inverted V-braced frames has the smallest structural period and smaller structural weights compared to other structural bracing systems.
