Abstract:
Concrete-Filled Steel Tubular (CFST) columns are increasingly being used because of their many advantages, including high strength, high ductility, and higher fire resistance than conventional steel or concrete columns of the same size. In order to maximise the advantages of CFST column, composite action of the column should be ensured. In realistic structures, the load is not directly applied to the entire CFST column section and is introduced from the beam-column connection. Simple shear connections, which are usually preferred in constructions, are only connected to the external face of the steel tube and there is an issue about how this load is introduced to the concrete core, through the bond at the steel/concrete interface. There are fundamental errors in the load introduction mechanism assumed in various current design methods. Furthermore, based on this erroneous load introduction mechanism, construction methods, such as placing shear connectors inside the steel tube or using through-column plates, are recommended to ensure complete load introduction. However, these methods are either impractical or uneconomical. The aim of this project, therefore, is to develop a thorough understanding of the load introduction mechanism and to use the new insights to assess design implications, for both ambient temperature and fire safety design. The research has been conducted through physical testing, extensive numerical modelling and detailed analytical derivations. A series of new load introduction tests, in which square CFST columns are loaded through simple fin plate connections, are carried out. These tests are designed to investigate the effects of changing column lengths below and above the connection, the effectiveness of using shear connectors inside the steel tube below the connection (according to Eurocode 4) and using a cap plate on the column top for load introduction into the concrete core. The test results indicate that the connection load is introduced to the concrete core through the column length above and within the connection or the cap plate on top of the column. This is different from the currently assumed mechanism of load introduction which assumes that load introduction occurs from underneath the connection. Below the connection, there is transfer of forces from the steel tube to the concrete core, but the total force in the column remains unchanged. Consequently, using shear connectors below the connection is ineffective in increasing CFST column strength, as has been demonstrated by the tests. The physical tests are supplemented by an extensive numerical parametric study to check whether the conclusions are applicable to different design conditions and to provide data for development of a new design method. The parameters include: section geometry (square, circular, and rectangular), position of load application to CFST column, dimensions of the square column cross-section, steel tube thickness, connection length, column length above the connection, column length below the connection, and maximum bond stress at the steel-concrete interface. The numerical simulation results confirm the experimental observations. Furthermore, the numerical simulation results indicate that the entire column length and the entire perimeter of the steel-concrete interface above and within the connection are engaged in load introduction. Based on the experimental and numerical simulation results, a simple calculation method has been proposed to calculate the column cross-section resistance under compression. According to this equation, the concrete compression resistance to the composite column is the minimum of the plastic resistance or the bond strength within and above the connection. This gives rise to a “concrete strength reduction factor” to account for incomplete load introduction, being the ratio of the load introduced to the concrete core through the interface bond to the concrete plastic resistance. Based on the new load introduction calculation method and using representative values of column dimensions and concrete cylinder strength, it has been demonstrated that complete load introduction can be achieved in almost all practical arrangements of concrete-filled tubular construction. For slender CFST column design, this concrete strength reduction factor should also be used to calculate the CFST column cross-section flexural stiffness. For a CFST column under combined axial compression and bending, the concrete strength reduction factor should be used when calculating the compression force, but should be ignored when calculating the bending resistance because composite action is not necessary for bending of the CFST column. The new load introduction mechanism induces additional compression in the concrete core and possible tension in the steel tube above the connection. Therefore, the concrete core of the column above the connection in multi-storey construction should be designed to resist the additional compression force. For the steel tube, in ambient temperature design, the steel contribution ratio (steel section resistance/plastic resistance of composite cross-section) of the top floor column should be at least 0.25. For fire resistance design, the steel contribution ratio of the top floor columns, those on the floor below the top floor, and those two floors below the top floor, should not be less than 0.5, 0.33, and 0.25 respectively.

Many tasks, such as indexing and text categorization, can be performed automatically with minimal human effort. Machine learning has played an important role in such automation by learning various patterns such as document topics, text structures, and user interests from examples. In recent years, it has become increasingly difficult to search for useful information on the World Wide Web because of its large size and unstructured nature. Useful information and resources are often hidden in the Web. While machine learning has been successfully applied to traditional IR systems, it poses some new challenges to apply these algorithms to the Web due to its large size, link structure, diversity in content and languages, and dynamic nature. On the other hand, such characteristics of the Web also provide interesting patterns and knowledge that do not present in traditional information retrieval systems.

Abstract:
This thesis discusses rhetorical features of Indonesian research articles (RAs) in three disciplinary areas: Economics, Education and Psychology. These were written by Indonesian speakers and published mainly in university-based scientific journals. The main focus of this thesis is on the examination of the patterns of communicative purposes or ‘Moves’ and their subsequent elements or ‘Steps’ of the introduction sections of these articles. The analyses include the examination of communicative purposes and persuasive values of the texts, linguistic resources used to materialise the communicative purposes and persuasions, and the cultural factors (ie. norms, beliefs and values) and scientific practices and academic writing conventions underlying the specific rhetorical features. ¶ This study found that the macro rhetorical structure of the Indonesian RAs (ie. the Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion or IMRD pattern) is relatively similar to that of the English RAs except that, unlike in English RAs, the conclusion and suggestion section in the Indonesian RAs have a separate section. However, the communicative purposes and persuasions in the introduction sections in the two groups of the RAs (English and Indonesian) are relatively different. Differences are also found in the way that rhetorical works use the linguistic resources to materialise the communicative purposes and persuasions in the introduction sections of the two groups of RAs. Some of the rhetorical differences are because of the differences in the research practices and scientific writing conventions in Indonesian and in English speaking countries, while others are because of cultural differences reflected in the two languages. ¶ The pedagogical implication of this study is that the Indonesian RA genre needs to be explicitly taught to Indonesian students, particularly university students in order to give them more access to the content of Indonesian research, and to develop skills needed by Indonesian researchers and research writers. For this purpose, an appropriate approach needs to be developed; that is to teach the generic features of Indonesian RAs such as those in social sciences written in Bahasa Indonesia or Indonesian.

A Introdução, como parte inicial de um trabalho acadêmico, indica aos leitores informações prévias para o estudo relatado no trabalho. Sua finalidade é a formulação clara e simples do tema da pesquisa. Devido às restritas pesquisas com o gênero TCC, em especial sobre a seção Introdução, e por ser considerado um dos componentes obrigatórios na redação de qualquer texto acadêmico, resolve-se trabalhar com esse importante segmento. Tem-se como objetivo geral analisar a organização composicional da seção Introdução dos TCC de 2012 do Curso de Pedagogia da UEMA a fim de verificar se os segmentos previstos para o plano de texto do gênero TCC ocorreram e se houve ligação entre as unidades textuais. Especificamente, procurou-se identificar as unidades do plano do texto que compõem a Introdução dos trabalhos analisados, considerando as unidades arroladas por Feltrim, Aluísio e Nunes (2000); examinar o papel dos organizadores textuais e dos conectores argumentativos na marcação de segmentação das etapas do plano de texto assim como de conexão entre as diferentes partes; explicitar o papel da continuidade referencial como marca de continuidade temática. A teoria adotada foi a Análise Textual dos Discursos (ADAM, 2011), principalmente no que se refere ao plano de texto, construção de referência e conectores argumentativos. Estabelecem-se relações com Conte (2013), Koch (2011), Mondada e Dubois (2013) entre outros. Os procedimentos metodológicos deram-se mediante abordagem qualitativa, pesquisa exploratória, descritiva, bibliográfica e documental. O corpus da análise qualitativa foi constituído de cinco Introduções, retiradas do conjunto dos TCC investigados. Partiu-se de 36 Introduções cujas composições textuais revelaram-se representativas do fenômeno investigado. Os resultados mostraram que as Introduções (a maioria) apresentam estrutura composicional/sequência e plano de texto compatíveis com os estágios obrigatórios e opcionais previstos por Feltrim, Aluísio e Nunes (2000), obedecendo a uma estrutura convencional. As operações linguístico-discursivas deram o necessário suporte à construção de unidades semânticas no processo de textualização, embora se tenham identificado lacunas (ausências, descontinuidades), indicativas da inexperiência linguístico-textual dos produtores, correlato também com algumas dificuldades quanto ao domínio das diretrizes recomendadas para a construção do texto científico, ocorrências que não chegam a comprometer a dimensão de sentido dos textos, tampouco comprometem a manutenção dos blocos e segmentos temáticos responsáveis pela realização do plano de texto e da consequente garantia de sua comunicabilidade.
Introduction section as an initial part of a TCC (Course Final Assignment) indicates to its reader’s previous information to this study paper. Its aim is a clear and simple formulation of the theme of this research. Due to the restrict studies about TCC (Course Final Assignment), in special about the Introduction section, which is considered one of the compulsory components of an essay in any academic text, it was decided to work on this important section. It is aimed to analyze the compositional organization of the Introduction section in the TCC (Course Final Assignment) from the year 2012 of the Pedagogy Course in UEMA (State University of Maranhão) to verify if the expected segments to the text planning in a TCC (Course Final Assignment) gender have occurred and if there was a link among the textual units. As specific objectives, it was identified the units of the text planning that compose the Introduction section of the TCC (Course Final Assignment) analyzed, considering the units mentioned by Feltrim, Aluísio and Nunes (2000); to examine the role of textual organizations and the role of argumentative connectors as a mark on the segmentation of the stages of the text planning as well as the connection among different parts of the text; to explicit the role of a referential continuity as a mark to a theme continuity. The theory adopted was Discourse Textual Analysis, Adam (2011), mainly about text plan, development of references and argument, ative connectors. It was established relations among, Conte (2013), Koch (2011), Mondada e Dubois (2013) and others. The methodological procedures were done by qualitative approach, exploratory, descriptive and bibliographic research. The corpus of the qualitative analysis was built based on five Introduction sections taken from TCC (Course Final Assignment) investigated. It was started from 36 Introduction sections from which the textual compositions were representative marks of the investigated phenomenon. The results presents a majority number of Introduction sections has shown compositional sequence and compatible text planning to the compulsories and optional stages expected from Feltrin, Aluisio and Nunes (2000),obeying to a conventional structure. Linguistics and discursive operations were a necessary support to the construction of semantic units in the process of a text planning, even though, some gaps were identified (absences, discontinuity), presence of linguistic and textual inexperience of the writers, also connected to some difficulties on recommended directrix to write a scientific text, some occurrences that has not affected the meaningfulness of the text, neither the maintenance of blocks and theme segments responsible for the text planning and for the guarantee of its communicability.

This article explores the application of continuous improvement tools in company M4C1 to improve processes and production procedure for a production line of polo shirts and the distribution of workstations to provide a more efficient flow, thereby reducing non-productive times of materials and people transportation. The steps to determine the correct approach of the procedures to control excess in production times and reprocesses for its correct implementation, flow charts, and work indicators to measure the production processes of polo shirts will be described. The Arena Simulation tool will then be used to simulate the operation of the production process of polo shirts and to compare the results before and after implementation. Finally, the conclusions of the project will be presented.

Abstract:
Traditionally, cash and accrual bases of accounting are used respectively for public and private sector accounting. This notion has been justified by the supposedly distinct fundamental differences that exist in the objectives and goals pursued in each sector and the purposes that the financial reports are expected to achieve. The different environment in which each sector operates also lends credence to this notion. However, the partitioning wall between the two sectors' bases of accounting is crumbling. It is fast being realised that resources are scarce in both the private and public sectors. Consequently, their efficient management and reporting in a given entity's operation is essential. This study first, presents an account of governmental accounting and budgeting as practised in Nigeria, and relates it to the experience of other countries to identify similarities and otherwise on the issues of accounting innovation. Second, it assesses the opinion and views of those most knowledgeable about the financial details of the public sector of Nigeria. These are the Accountants - General as the producers of governmental accounting information, and the users of the information are the directors of finance and budget executives of government and other top management officials. Thereafter, the prevailing opinion is adopted in analysing Professor Luder's Contingency Model that has been described as the paradigm of accounting innovation in the public Sector. The outcome of the study indicates that by Luder classification criteria, accounting innovation is not currently feasible in Nigeria. However, most of the stimuli that positively jolt other countries into the process of accounting innovation are present in the situation of Nigeria. Moreover, the users and producers of governmental accounting information in the public sector of Nigeria are overwhelmingly aware of the inadequacy of accounting information produced by the cash accounting basis. Nonetheless, they disagreed to a shift from the cash basis of accounting to accrual accounting. Instead, preference is indicated for a combination of the two bases of accounting (similar to the practice in Spain). Since accounting innovation has not taken place in Nigeria, it is concluded that the stimuli may not have existed in the appropriate proportion. However, more firmly, the other variables that will positively complement the stimuli are quite inadequate; and above all the political will for the change is yet to emerge.

Research questions: I: What are the key steps to introduce, evaluate and implement health-associated technologies into different Swedish municipalities? II: Which are the main challenges and opportunities to introduce, evaluate and implement health-associated technologies into different Swedish municipalities? Purpose: The aim of the project has been to conduct a situation analysis on how different Swedish municipalities introduce, evaluate and implement existing health-associated technologies into their organization. To conduct this study, key steps and main challenges in these processes have been identified by interviewing different stakeholders involved from the public and private sector as well as end users. Methodology: This master thesis is an abductive case study. Primary data has been collected through interviews and internal documents from organizations. Secondary data collection was collected through research papers and literature review. Findings: The main findings of this study show that regarding the introduction procedure some municipalities are further in the process of developing formal procedures for organizations and end users to approach them with their products or needs. The evaluation as part of the procurement process has been considered a big obstacle for the three stakeholders groups interviewed since the criteria established doesn’t consider the different aspect of the technology as its value to the municipality and end user. Implementation procedures do not exist and were not under development from any of the three municipalities interviewed. Abstract:
The  emergence of the internet and  digitisation  has  led to  the disruption/transformation of  therecorded music industry sector. This has resulted in a shift  from  physical  to  digital  sales, which has also led to a decline in the global recorded music sector revenue. Although largely attributed to piracy and illegal music downloads, some have argued that this was as a result of  the reduction in the perceived value of commercially distributed recorded music. The audio quality of music and user experience has specifically been highlighted to have suffered due to digitisation. Experience from the case of the introduction of HDTV gives an example of a similar industry sector that was able to revive itself by implementing high-definition (HD) quality standards. This thesis set out to  investigate if such an approach could be applicable to  the recording music sector in order to create a similar HD music quality standard. The methodology adopted, involved performing a comparative case study to analyse what  lessons can be taken from the HDTV standardisation approach and how applicable it would be within  the recorded music sector. This was coupled  with interviews of industry actors that represent  the value creation network/chain of the recorded music sector. The result suggests that such a standardisation approach could be applicable and benefit the recorded music sector; however, this is conditional on overcoming a number of challenges that were   identified.

Abstract:
The electronic identification (eID) is a digital representation of our analogue identity used for authentication in order to gain access to personalized restricted online content. Despite its limited and clearly defined scope, the eID has a unique role to play in information society as an enabler of public digital services for citizens as well as businesses and a prerequisite for the development of electronic government (eGovernment). This study shows a tendency of treating public sector eIDs like Information and Communications Technology (ICT) artefacts in general. Hence, a narrow focus on technology is often applied thus placing non-technical aspects in the background. Consequently, social and organizational implications are often unproblematized which in turn becomes problematic in the case of the public sector eID. This study puts forth a need for a broader focus in this area and contributes by focusing on the challenges related to the resistance to introductions of eIDs among affected actors in the public sector. This study assumes that affected actors’ perceptions (translations) of the eID have a potential impact on its introduction on organizational as well as operational level. Research questions focus on the influence of resistance on the introduction and the relationship between resistance and actors’ translations of the eID. The aim is to further develop existing concepts and bring new insights to research as well as practice. The analytical perspectives of sociology and institutionalism aim at developing a tentative analytical framework for investigations of this relationship. Introductions, therefore, become institutional pressures facing resistance as related to affected actors’ translations. The empirical basis consists of two interpretive case studies of eID introductions –a national eID to cover the entire public sector and a professional eID in health care. The result shows that resistance in the form of institutional barriers develops from actors’ negative translations of the eID and main coordinating actors’ tend to fail in their attempts to negotiate these barriers. This confirms a closer relationship between institutional pressures and barriers and a view of pressures, barriers and eIDs as translated institutions transferred across organizational settings is put forth. To facilitate future research and practice related to public sector eID introductions, three propositions are put forth. (1) The importance of acknowledging pressures to introduce eIDs as closely related to barriers. (2) The institutions involved in this process as all translated by the government, coordinating actors as well as affected actors. (3) The importance of a developed understanding of these institutions, translations and relationships in order to facilitate cooperative efforts shaping future public sector eIDs.

Denna studie visar att eID i offentlig sektor ofta hanteras som informations- och kommunikationsteknik (IKT) generellt. Därför tillämpas ofta ett tekniskt perspektiv vilket medför att icke-tekniska aspekter placeras i bakgrunden vilket blir problematiskt i fallet med eID i offentlig sektor. Sociala och organisatoriska konsekvenser förblir därmed ofta otillräckligt problematiserade vilket blir problematiskt vid introduktioner av eID i offentlig sektor. Följaktligen för denna studie fram ett behov av bredare fokus inom detta område och bidrar genom att fokusera på utmaningar som rör motståndet mot introduktioner av eID bland berörda aktörer inom offentlig sektor. Denna studie förutsätter att berörda aktörers uppfattningar (översättningar) av eID har en potentiell inverkan på dess introduktion på organisatorisk och operativ nivå. Forskningsfrågorna behandlar hur motståndet påverkar införandet och förhållandet mellan motstånd och aktörernas översättningar av eID. Målet är att vidareutveckla befintliga begrepp och att bidra med nya insikter till forskning samt praktik. De analytiska perspektiven inom sociologi och institutionalism syftar till att utveckla ett tentativt analytiskt ramverk för att undersöka denna relation och med detta se introduktioner som institutionella tryck som möter motstånd kopplat till berörda aktörers översättningar. Den empiriska grunden består av två tolkande fallstudier - ett nationellt eID införande och ett införande av eID för tjänstebruk inom vården. Resultatet visar att motståndet i form av institutionella hinder utvecklas från aktörers negativa översättningar av eID och samordnande försök att hantera dessa hinder misslyckas ofta. Detta bekräftar också en tydlig relation mellan institutionella tryck, hinder och eID som översatta institutioner vilka överförs mellan olika organisatoriska sammanhang. För att underlätta framtida eID-införanden och för nya insikter till forskning, förs följande tre påståenden fram: (1) Vikten av att erkänna institutionella tryck som närbesläktade med hinder vid införande av eID. (2) De institutioner som deltar (tryck, hinder och eID) är alla översatta av förvaltning, samordnande och berörda aktörer. (3) Vikten av en utvecklad förståelse av dessa institutioner, översättningar och relationer för att underlätta samverkan kring framtidens eID inom offentlig sektor.

Abstract:
This thesis is a study of public sector reform in the context of economic crisis. The thesis examines the introduction of new management practices to the Cyprus civil service, with the aim of understanding the role of various actors, internal and external to Cyprus, in influencing the policy agenda. Based on semi-structured interviews with key players, the research captures a civil service at the point of transition. The government of Cyprus has been under pressure to introduce reforms since joining the European Union in 2004. Nevertheless, political and social factors have made previous attempts to reduce civil service staffing and introduce practices influenced by ‘New Public Management’ (NPM) have been unsuccessful. The current programme of reforms, by contrast, have resulted from coercive influence of the ‘Troika’ following the economic crisis, which has added weight to an existing tendency towards normative isomorphism. The research finds a recognition of the desirability of ‘modernisation’ amongst policy-makers, civil service managers and trade unionists alike. This finding, which might be surprising in other national contexts, may be explained by the island’s historical legacy of political patronage and clientelism. NPM initiatives are regarded as being beneficial, overall. This, in turn, suggests a reappraisal of the nature of bureaucracy in Cyprus, which would indicate that it has not lived up to its reputation for being meritocratic and impartial, and is regarded by the actors as a barrier to progress.

In his essay "On the sects for beginners", Galen said three sects were formed in medicine. The empiricists observed natural phenomena and tried to resort to personal experience; the dogmatists -also called logicians) reasoned about causes ; the methodists reasoned about some apparent "communities" of diseases. After explaining the empirical and dogmatic doctrines, Galen showed that both sects were in opposition as far as theory was concerned but agreed on practice. Unlike them, the methodists who were incompetent physicians, were a threat to the medical field by their dangerous practices. During an imaginary contest in a theatre, after the methodist speaker was refuted by the empiricist, the dogmatist completed the argumentation of his colleague and closed discussion by expressing Galen's ideas. The treatise "on the best sect" is a forged work composed of three sections. The first of them, written by a pneumatist, discusses the medical theorem and its three criteria of truth. The second, apparently written by an eclectic physician, explains the shared and particular views of all the sects. The study addresses the introduction of an innovation of new technology into a bureaucratic profession. The organisational setting is that of local authority secondary schools at a time at which microcomputers were being introduced in both the organisational core (for teaching) and its periphery (school administration). The research studies innovation-adopting organisations within their sectoral context; key actors influencing the innovation are identified at the levels of central government, local government and schools. A review of the literature on new technology and innovation (including educational innovation), and on schools as organisations in a changing environment leads to the development of the conceptual framework of the study using a resource dependency model within a cycle of the acquisition, allocation and utilisation of financial, physical and intangible resources. The research methodology is longitudinal and draws from both positivist and interpretive traditions. lt includes an initial census of the two hundred secondary schools in four local education authorities, a final survey of the same population, and four case studies, using both interview methods and documentation. Two modes of innovation are discerned. In respect of administrative use a rationalising, controlling mode is identified, with local education authorities developing standardised computer-assisted administrative systems for use in schools. In respect of curricular use, in contrast, teachers have been able to maintain an indeterminate occupational knowledge base, derived from an ideology of professionalism in respect of the classroom use of the technology. The mode of innovation in respect of curricular use has been one of learning and enabling. The resourcing policies of central and local government agencies affect the extent of use of the technology for teaching purposes, but the way in which it is used is determined within individual schools, where staff with relevant technical expertise significantly affect the course of the innovation.

Online instruction is becoming increasingly common at universities; however, there is little single subject research concerning the effectiveness of the online lecture format. We investigated whether online lecture could replace in-class lecture in two sections of an undergraduate Introduction to Behavior Analysis course without detrimentally affecting student learning. Using an adapted alternating treatments design, online and in-class lecture formats were counterbalanced across the two course sections. Experimenters collected data on lecture attendance/access, percent correct on the weekly quiz, and student report on lecture format preference. The data show that, within the context of this class, students performed equally in the weekly quiz regardless of lecture format; further, that this is consistent when looking at individual student data and mean data. However, although students stated a preference for online lecture in the questionnaire, a greater percentage of students attended in-class lecture than accessed online lecture.

Bakgrund och problem: Idag eftersträvar företag kostnadsminskning genom flexibilitet, vilket har medfört att efterfrågan på visstidsanställda inom detaljhandeln har ökat markant. Trots den ökade efterfrågan är det inte ovanligt att visstidsanställda inte får någon upplärning alls och företag riskerar lägre produktivitet till följd av lägre kompetens. Utifrån den resursbaserade teorin är det viktigt att de visstidsanställda bidrar med värde genom acceptabel produktivitet, vilket innebär hur mycket företag förväntar sig av sina anställda. Det krävs inte minst eftersom yrket butiksbiträde anses vara komplext. På grund av komplexiteten och den ökade andelen visstidsanställda är det därför centralt att bevara och utveckla visstidsanställdas kompetens genom en god upplärning för att de ska uppnå acceptabel produktivitet. Syfte: Syftet med studien är att öka förståelsen för hur företag inom detaljhandeln arbetar med upplärning av visstidsanställda. Studien avser att undersöka hur företag kan bemöta den föränderliga marknaden genom att förstå hur upplärning av visstidsanställda kan utformas för att de ska uppnå acceptabel produktivitet. Metod: Studien har antagit en kvalitativ metod för att uppnå studien syfte. Åtta semistrukturerade intervjuer har genomförts med olika butikschefer, vilket har bidragit med deras syn på visstidsanställdas upplärning i praktiken. Slutsats: Studiens resultat visar att visstidsanställdas upplärning varierar beroende på vilken butik det gäller, men att det finns vissa aspekter som är generella. På grund av att butiker är unika och att individuella skillnader påverkar finns inget konkret arbetssätt för hur upplärningen blir mest effektiv. Trots det har studien klargjort för att skriftliga, muntliga och digitala verktyg är av central betydelse för upplärningen och borde kombineras för att generera värde. Hur kombinationen ser ut beror däremot på hur företaget arbetar och vad som förväntas av de visstidsanställda, alltså den acceptabla produktiviteten. Det har även visat sig att företag vanligtvis inte förväntar sig lika mycket vad gäller produktivitet hos de visstidsanställda som de tillsvidareanställda och att upplärningen därför varierar. Av resultatet framgår även att en värdefull aspekt av upplärningsarbetet är att låta nyanställda implementera teoretiska kunskaper i praktiken. Därmed krävs både teoretisk och praktisk upplärning.
Background and problem: As of today, companies are aiming to reduce costs through flexibility, which in turn has led to a significant increase of the demand for temporary employees within the retail sector. Despite this increased demand it is not uncommon for temporary employees to not receive introductory training, thus companies risk lowering productivity as a result of lower competence levels. According to the resource based theory it is essential that temporary employees contribute valuably through acceptable productivity, which exhibits how much companies expect from their employees. This is however partly necessary since the position of a sales assistant is regarded as a complex profession. Due to the complexity and the increasing portion of temporary employees in the workfield, it is essential to preserve and develop competence achieved through sufficient introductory training to attain acceptable productivity. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to acquire a deeper understanding of how companies in the retail sector conduct introductory training of temporary employees. The study aims to examine how companies potentially can manage the ever changing market through understanding how introductory training of temporary employees can be designed to obtain acceptable productivity. Method: The study has adopted a qualitative method for achieving its purpose. Eight semistructured interviews have been conducted with multiple store managers with the purpose of compiling views and experiences of introductory training in practice. Conclusion: The results of the study demonstrate that introductory training of temporary employees varies depending on the store in which one operates. Certain aspects appear to be prevalent, however since each store is unique and has individual variables in effect there is no palpable way of streamlining introductory training. Consequently, the study has confirmed that written, oral and digital tools are imperative for introductory training and should be combined to be of value. This combination design is dependent on how a specific company works and what is expected of the temporary employees, that is, the acceptable productivity. It has also been found that companies frequently do not expect as much in terms of productivity from temporary employees as opposed to permanent employees, seeing this introductory training can vary. The result confirms valuable aspects of introductory training involves allowing new employees implement theoretical knowledge in practice. Therefore is both theoretical and practical training required.

Onboarding of new employees in the workplace is among the most important and at the same time the most overlooked process in managing human capital. Onboarding is the English term for the introduction as well as the socialization process in new employee development. Onboarding is important because organizations invest time and money to recruit new employees, and therefore cannot afford to have new employees fall into exclusion in the beginning of their careers. Important aspects of onboarding are to help organizations ensure that new employees become more involved in their work, improve their integration into the organization, strengthen their loyalty to the organization as well as reduce employee turnover. Today there are few studies of onboarding in the public sector. The purpose of this study is to first present a proposal for a theoretical model for onboarding for the public sector, then to study an existing onboarding process at Region Gävleborg and then to further develop the theoretical onboarding model. The study has fulfilled its purpose by developing a theoretical model based on theories of onboarding and socialization, models from the private sector, existing onboarding methods and an interview with an HR strategist from Region Gävleborg. The authors have also analyzed the raw data from Region Gävleborg's survey to gain a better understanding of new employees' experience of Region Gävleborg's onboarding. The study started with the development of a theoretical model, then an onboarding model for Region Gävleborg was developed based on mapping of the region's onboarding process. Subsequently, the theoretical model and the developed onboarding model were validated by Region Gävleborg's HR strategist. Furthermore, the study's first drafted theoretical model was compared with the Region Gävleborg’s model as well as an onboarding model from the private sector, which resulted in a further developed new theoretical model for onboarding in the public sector.
Onboarding av nyanställda på arbetsplatsen är bland det viktigaste och samtidigt den mest förbisedda processen vid hantering av humankapital. Onboarding är det engelska uttrycket för introduktion samt socialiseringsprocessen vid nyanställning. Onboarding är viktigt eftersom organisationer investerar tid och pengar för att rekrytera nyanställda och därför har organisationen inte råd med att nyanställda hamnar i utanförskap i början av karriären. Viktiga aspekter av onboarding att hjälpa organisationer att se till att nyanställda blir mer engagerade i sitt arbete, förbättra deras integration in i organisationen, förstärka deras lojalitet till organisationen samt minska personalomsättningen. Idag finns få studier om onboarding gällande den offentliga sektorn. Syftet med denna studie är att först presentera ett förslag till en teoretisk modell för onboarding för offentlig sektor sedan studera en existerande onboardingprocess hos Region Gävleborg och därefter vidareutveckla den teoretiska modellen för onboarding. Studien har uppfyllt sitt syfte genom att ta fram en teoretisk modell baserad på teorier om onboarding och socialisering, modeller från den privata sektorn, befintliga onboardingmetoder samt en intervju med HR-strateg från Region Gävleborg. Författarna har även analyserat rådata från Region Gävleborgs enkätundersökningar för att få en bättre förståelse av nyanställdas upplevelse av Region Gävleborgs onboarding. Studien inledes med att en teoretisk modell togs fram, sedan utarbetades en onboardingmodell för Region Gävleborg utifrån kartläggning av regionens onboardingprocess. Därefter validerades den framtagna teoretiska modellen och den utarbetade onboardingmodell av Region Gävleborgs HR-strateg. Vidare jämfördes studiens första utkast till teoretisk modell med Region Gävleborgs modell samt en onboardingmodell från den privata sektorn, vilket resulterades i en vidareutvecklad ny teoretisk modell för onboarding inom den offentliga sektorn.

Les réseaux sociaux numériques professionnels, qualifiés ici d’espaces numériques interstitiels à thématiques professionnelles (EIP) dans cette recherche, suscitent, en raison de leur nature émergente et ambivalente, des interrogations tant sur le plan empirique que sur le plan conceptuel. A partir des observations exploratoires menées avec une démarche inductive et qualitative sur les EIP spécialisés dans la gestion des ressources humaines de la fonction publique territoriale (FPT), cette recherche propose, d’une part, une conceptualisation systémique de l’analyse du fonctionnement des EIP, et, d’autre part, une analyse des fonctionnalités gestionnaires des EIP dans le contexte du développement des nouvelles pratiques RH dans le secteur de la FPT. S’appuyant sur le concept des systèmes autopoïétiques de Niklas Luhmann (1927-1998), cette recherche propose un cadre d’analyse qui considère que les EIP sont des systèmes fonctionnant avec des processus d’auto-maintenance et d’auto-renouvellement, au travers des communications entre les individus qui sont à la fois contributeurs et consommateurs, réunis par des moyens numériques dans des lieux collectifs interstitiels. Un système comme l’EIP peut être analysé selon un cadre composé de trois dimensions qui s’interagissent : dimension structurelle, dimension technologique et dimension vectorielle. Ces observations montrent que, pour les professionnels RH du secteur, l’EIP est avant tout un outil professionnel de complémentarité disposant de différentes fonctionnalités managériales et gestionnaires, que l’on peut illustrer par quatre métaphores du quotidien : le jardin public pour se ressourcer et échanger, la fenêtre pour observer, le miroir pour s’ajuster, et la courroie de transmission pour articuler différemment la GRH et le SI. Professional digital social networks, defined as interstitial professional digital spaces (IPDS) in this research, arouse, because of their emergent and ambivalent characteristics, empirical and academic questions. From an exploratory study conducted with an inductive and qualitative approach about the IPDS specified in the human resources management of the French public territorial sector, this research suggests, firstly, a systemic conceptualization in analysis of the IPDS’s functionaries, and second, an analysis of its management functionalities in the development of new HRM practices in this sector. Based on the autopoietic system theory of Niklas Luhmann (1928-1998), this research proposes a theoretical framework for analysis whereas the IPDS is a system with self-maintenance and a self-renewal process through communications between individuals who are both contributors and consumers, assembled by digital tools in interstitial spaces. The results stemming from the observation data show that, for HR professionals, IPDS are above all complementary professional tool with different features which can be illustrated as a public garden for broadening the mind, a window for observation, a mirror for self-examination, and a transmission belt for articulating HRM and IS. This work ends with reflection on the IPDS’s potentialities in a development of HR practices in the public territorial sector

This thesis discusses rhetorical features of Indonesian research articles (RAs) in three disciplinary areas: Economics, Education and Psychology. These were written by Indonesian speakers and published mainly in university-based scientific journals. The main focus of this thesis is on the examination of the patterns of communicative purposes or ‘Moves’ and their subsequent elements or ‘Steps’ of the introduction sections of these articles. The analyses include the examination of communicative purposes and persuasive values of the texts, linguistic resources used to materialise the communicative purposes and persuasions, and the cultural factors (ie. norms, beliefs and values) and scientific practices and academic writing conventions underlying the specific rhetorical features. ¶ This study found that the macro rhetorical structure of the Indonesian RAs (ie. the Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion or IMRD pattern) is relatively similar to that of the English RAs except that, unlike in English RAs, the conclusion and suggestion section in the Indonesian RAs have a separate section. However, the communicative purposes and persuasions in the introduction sections in the two groups of the RAs (English and Indonesian) are relatively different. Differences are also found in the way that rhetorical works use the linguistic resources to materialise the communicative purposes and persuasions in the introduction sections of the two groups of RAs. Some of the rhetorical differences are because of the differences in the research practices and scientific writing conventions in Indonesian and in English speaking countries, while others are because of cultural differences reflected in the two languages. ¶ The pedagogical implication of this study is that the Indonesian RA genre needs to be explicitly taught to Indonesian students, particularly university students in order to give them more access to the content of Indonesian research, and to develop skills needed by Indonesian researchers and research writers. Trusts are an essential tool for estate planning. The interest in trust structures by taxpayers has increased over the years and the South African Revenue Services (‘SARS’) and National Treasury (‘NT’) have placed trusts on their agenda due to their perceived tax avoidance resulting from the use of trust structures. Section 7C was introduced into the Income Tax Act 58 of 1962 (as amended) (‘the Act’) in order to curb the avoidance of estate duty. However, the work undertaken by SARS and NT over the years and the insertion of this section in the Act, created an impression that there is avoidance of taxation through the use of trust structures. This study will interrogate the provisions of s 7C in order to determine the effectiveness of this section in curbing the avoidance of estate duty and/or tax through the use of trust structures. The well thought out manner in which this section was drafted and the existence of other tax provisions in the Act which pertain to trusts and the funding mechanisms of trusts suggest that this new inclusion is a convenient and easy manner to monitor the abuse by SARS and NT and subsequently curb the perceived abuse. The interplay of this section with ss 7 and 31 of the Act indicate a risk of unintended double taxation. This and the circumvention options that taxpayers may embark on are matters that may render the section ineffective, although it is evidenced that this section closes that last door that remained open for taxpayers in respect of funding a trust. For the last decade, applied linguists and language teachers, especially those in the field of EAP (English for Academic Purposes) have shown great interest in adopting a genre-based approach to the analysis of written and spoken discourse in academic and research settings. Researchers in EAP examined the structural organization of different generic sections of research articles (RAs) including Abstract (e.g. Gillets & Velde, 2010), Introduction (e.g. Loi, 2010), Literature Review (e.g. Dovey, 2010; Pecorari, 2006),Method (e.g. Lim, 2006), Results (e.g. Basturkmen, 2009), Discussion (e.g. Amirian & Kassaian & Tavakoli, 2008) and Conclusion (e.g. Ruiying and Allison, 2003) sections, but there have been very few studies attempting to analyze two sections, such as the patterns in Introduction and Discussion. Thus, this study aims to analyze communicative moves on both Introduction and Discussion sections of RAs. Twenty articles published in the Journal of Organizational Behavior (OB) were analyzed in terms of Swales’ model (2004) in Introduction and as the model proposed by Dudley-Evans (1994) in Discussion. The findings show that even though all researchers in OB research establish the territory in the beginning and end their RA Introductions by occupying the niche, there exists a mixed move structure in between. The sequence in Discussion varies. All researchers in OB research make claims, and provide limitations, but none of them write statements of results. Findings of this study may have implications for EAP teachers in pedagogy and materials development.

Under the global trends, the department has been dedicating to promote the e-government. A great amount of budget was spent on the software.However, with qualitative research, the study attempts to explore the situations and results of introduction of information system by a certain prosecution institute in order to examine whether the budget was duly used. The study is based on interviews with suppliers, users and IT people to understand which factors affected the introduction of the system. With the grounded theory of qualitative research, the data after interviews were arranged, compared and generalized. To begin, open coding was used to discover twenty-six factors affecting introduction of the information system. After the process of axial coding, these factors, based on the similarities, were divided into five fields of organization, technology, personnel, task, public policies and decision. Among which, the outsourcing policy in information of public policies and decision is the least thorough. This affected the introduction of information most, causing the gradual shortage of manpower of information in public department and the uncertainty of functions. The results of this study will help the information system of the public department to duly control the factors during introduction. In the meantime, the decision makers of the policies were suggested to modify the outsourcing policies of information operation.

Metadiscourse, a discourse analysis that reveals and summarizes the features of discourse, is widely used in the study of academic writing. Previous studies have shown distinctions in the number and type of metadiscourse elements across research articles in different languages and fields. However, little research focuses on the use of metadiscourse in Chinese introduction sections. This study, therefore, aims to summarize the features of Chinese introduction sections by comparing the usage of metadiscourse in Chinese and English language research article introductions. The corpus for this study is comprised of 60 introduction sections drawn from articles published in language teaching journals. Hyland’s (2005) model of metadiscourse is employed as the analytical framework for the present study. The results show that there are similarities and differences in usage between the two languages. To guide readers through each phase, both Chinese and English use interactive metadiscourse markers frequently and extensively; furthermore, there are clear similarities in the frequency of metadiscourse markers. As for the differences, Chinese employs more transitions (e.g., in addition, chúcǐzhīwài) and boosters (e.g., clearly, míngxiǎndi) than English, while English employs more evidentials (e.g., X states, X rènwéi) and hedges (e.g., possible, kěnéng) than Chinese. The language forms are differences as well. For example, in English, authors use first-person singular pronouns to refer to themselves, while Chinese authors do not. The findings suggest that Chinese research articles follow the norms of the English language academic community, but there are cultural and linguistic differences in Chinese academic writing. This study has pedagogical applications for academic writing teaching materials in TCSL (Teaching Chinese as a Second Language) for English students.
