Full textThis doctoral thesis originates from Centro Tice company's need for a deeper understanding of Web risks, parental mediation strategies and ways to support families in their mediational role. The research questions I structured and attempted to answer with my doctoral dissertation are threefold: What parenting strategies are most effective in reducing children's exposure to Web risks? What are the risk factors and what are the protective factors towards children's exposure to online risks? How can we support as many parents as possible in this new role as mediators of digital content, in an effective and functional way? My research path, therefore, consisted of three studies: - an in-depth scoping review of the scientific literature on the topic of parental mediation, and children's exposure to risks on-line - a quantitative study that investigated the characteristics and vulnerabilities that can lead children, and in particular children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), to experience more risks online, - the evaluation of feasibility and early outcomes of a parent training intervention aimed at supporting parents' mediational skills. The literature review and data collected uncovered several findings: (1) mediation strategies are effective and interact with an even more important variable: the parent-child empathic relationship. (2) Teens and parents have very different perceptions with respect to experiencing online risks, and according to parents, teens with SEN are more at risk in the virtual world. Many negative correlations were found by both teens and parents between social and school adjustment and problematic Internet use. (3) A group intervention for parents represents a feasible and welcome method for parents of preadolescents to enter the world of Internet use mediation

Full textThe present research project deals with group interventions for children having separated parents. Its aim is a methodological reflection about the programs analyzed and studied in the literature in order to later deepen some aspects of the Italian intervention Gruppi di Parola. The organization in three qualitative studies has allowed the researcher to approach the research object according to different perspectives and methodologies. The first study corresponds to a Systematic Narrative Review, carried out in order to systematize the international literature about the group interventions for children having separated parents which have been analyzed through a rigorous research design. The other studies respectively deepen two aspects of the intervention Gruppi di Parola: the theoretical and practical underpinnings through a focused ethnographic perspective (second study) and the interactive dynamics activated during a specific ritual phase of the process (welcoming) by means of a complex observational methodology (third study).
