Abstract:
Purpose – Managerial interpersonal skills (MIPS) are widely considered important for management development, yet the nature of MIPS has eluded researchers. The purpose of this paper is to propose five MIPS core skills, giving attention to the role of context, the relationship of MIPS to traits, and implications for training design, assessment and evaluation. Design/methodology/approach – The authors interweave a discussion forum of domain experts (Hillary Anger-Elfenbein, Timothy Baldwin, Paulo Lopes, Bronston T. Mayes, Ronald Riggio, Robert Rubin and David Whetten) with research commentary and implications for management development. The discussion focussed on: first, how do we define MIPS? Second, how important is context for defining, assessing or developing MIPS? Third, are MIPS traits, or skills that can be developed? Findings – The authors propose MIPS include five core skills that sequentially build upon one another: managing-self, communicating, supporting, motivating and managing conflict. Although context may impact the importance of each skill across cultures, situations and jobs, the authors offer these skills as a useful starting point for MIPS assessment, training design and evaluation. Research limitations/implications – The proposed five core skill model for MIPS needs further research and psychometric validation. Originality/value – By proposing MIPS include five specific trainable skills that are relevant across contexts, this paper advances MIPS research, assessment and development.

The study of interpersonal skills in the of field of neuroscience aims to reveal the relevance of the development of brain function with patterns of interaction with others. Interpersonal skills are examined by neuroscience-based literature, both from books and journals. The study found that the most dominant brain area when interacting with others is the prefrontal cortex, which functions to regulate communication harmony, emotional regulation, empathy, morale and intuition. Based on these findings it can be concluded that if interpersonal skills run well, the brain in the prefrontal cortex's area will develop optimally. Conversely, if interactions with other people are disrupted, damage will occur in the prefrontal cortex's area. This finding can be used as an initial discourse for counseling practitioners, psychologists, teachers, social workers or medical personnel for well being interpersonal skill client and patient .

Abstract:
Salesperson’s interpersonal skills have always played an important role in influencing various stages of customer’s purchase decision. With the increase in retail outlets and merchandisers, retail operations have taken a pivotal role in influencing the salesperson’s sales practices and customer’s purchase decisions. This study tries to examine the influence of salesperson’s interpersonal skills and retail operations on customer repurchase. A salesperson’s interpersonal skills are the trained and tacit competencies that a salesperson employs to improve customer relationships and sales. Many organizations prefer skill training as a strategic approach to increase sales. Though successful in its objective, salesperson’s skill training fails to attract repetitive purchases. It has become a necessity to train frontline employees to better understand customer needs, keeping in mind the firm’s ultimate objective. This study examines the negative influence of retail operations on the relationship between salesperson’s interpersonal skills and customer repurchase. The findings suggest that retail operations significantly moderate the relationship between salesperson’s interpersonal skills and customer repurchase. We also find that long wait times and disorganized stores play a significant moderating role in negatively influence customer repurchase. This study has important implications for retailers and sales managers.

Findings – In addition to the positive effects of work engagement on outcome measures, results showed political skill is an important capability contributing to transformational leadership and leaders’ job satisfaction. Findings also showed the interaction of emotional skill, political skill, and work engagement contributed to job satisfaction among managers. Practical implications – Organizations must provide managers with opportunities to develop political skills or modify selection processes to identify candidates who possess political skills for management positions. Organizations will also benefit from implementing ways to engage managers in their work to facilitate transformational leader behaviors and promote their well-being. In addition, organizations can work to identify and develop managers’ emotional control and sensitivity skills specific to individual needs. Originality/value – Research investigating personal attributes that influence transformational leadership as an outcome is limited. This study contributes to the leadership literature and sheds light on the literature on the microfoundations of management competencies by examining managers’ skills and engagement on their leader behaviors and job satisfaction. Insights are discovered regarding the combination of emotional skills, political skills, and work engagement that indicate interpersonal skills and engagement have supplementary effects on transformational leader behaviors and leader well-being.

Abstract:
The relationship between interpersonal skills is positively correlated with effective academic advising. Professional academic advisors feel significant pressure to meet a wide array of student needs, increase retention rates, help students in their efforts of academic achievement and career exploration, and support institutions to excel in scholarship. These demands make the skills needed for effective academic advising more professionally demanding than ever before. An advisor's skill level in interpersonal relations is critical to advising success. In this article, I share the foundation for interpersonal relations proficiency, communicate the challenges in interpersonal skill areas, and provide strategies with examples designed for advisors to enhance their proficiency in their relationships with advisees.

Abstract:
Formal education will make children smart on the academic side but not necessarily on the interpersonal side. Good interpersonal skills are very important in everyone's life. With good interpersonal skills, children are expected to have emotional intelligence, therefore, good interpersonal skills must be formed and trained consistently. This interpersonal ability cannot only be taught through classroom learning, but learning that provides direct experience is needed. The living environment has a very large influence on interpersonal development such as the environment in Kebagusan Village. Considering the environmental conditions of Kebagusan Village and based on the results of interviews and observations, the STM PPM PkM Team is committed to providing training to improve soft skills/interpersonal skills for Kebagusan Village children through traditional game stimuli. Based on the results of the evaluation of the implementation of soft skill training through traditional games, it shows changes in the behavior of children who are starting to dare to answer questions, dare to volunteer to be leaders in groups, dare to start conversations with the PKM STM PPM Team, show initiative when their friends experience difficulties, and start understand the meaning of mutual respect which is shown by being willing to listen when someone else is talking and not busy talking to himself. The conclusion from this community service activity is that the soft skills/interpersonal abilities of the children of Kebagusan Village are more honed if they are stimulated from an early age.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between leaders’ interpersonal communication skills and nurses’ innovative behaviour. Moreover, innovative behaviour is essential for nurses in today’s dynamic healthcare systems whereby, the interpersonal communication skill has become an increasingly important factor in enhancing innovative behaviour. This study is based on the conceptual framework of interpersonal communication skills, innovative behaviour, and perceived trustworthiness. Using stratified sampling technique, questionnaires were distributed to 246 nurses’ grade U29 in three public state hospitals in the northern region of Peninsular Malaysia. Since this is a correlational study, a quantitative research method is employed to determine the existing relationship between the variables. Findings indicated that the head nurses implemented moderately all the five components of interpersonal communication skills. The existence of perceived trustworthiness was found to improve the interaction between both parties to transform nurses to generate innovation in their work. The study concluded that interpersonal communication skills are required to be implemented by leaders in enhancing nurses’ innovative behaviour.

Abstract:
Employers and students concur that soft skills or interpersonal skills are critical to managerial success, yet we know little about how MBA program admissions professionals conceptualize and assess these skills in the context of global management education. Such practices have key implications for interpersonal skills curriculum and training in MBA programs around the globe. A survey of 182 MBA admissions professionals from 24 countries revealed surprising agreement in how interpersonal skills were conceptualized, and suggest interpersonal skills and soft skills are not synonymous. Results also indicated that only 30% of U.S. and international MBA programs use specific criteria to assess applicants’ interpersonal skills, with the remainder using nonspecific criteria or no assessment method. We discuss the need for more rigorous assessment of interpersonal skills in MBA admissions, closer coordination between admissions officers and curriculum developers, and tighter alignment between interpersonal skills assessment and MBA curriculum and learning outcomes.
