Abstract:
Abstract This introduction comprises four main sections. Section 1 introduces the overall theoretical architecture of Systemic Functional Linguistics (hereafter SFL) by way of contextualising the focus on interpersonal grammar in this special issue. Section 2 looks in more detail at the interpersonal discourse semantics underlying this work, briefly introducing the systems of negotiation and appraisal realised through interpersonal grammar. Section 3 turns to the concept of grammatical metaphor, a concept which bears critically on the realisation relationship between interpersonal discourse semantics and lexicogrammar in SFL. Section 4 comments on the challenge of intradisciplinary dialogue.

Abstract:
This study investigates how the interpersonal meaning is realized in the speech of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This study aimed to uncover (1) the mood structure which realized in Netanyahu‘s speech of Iran and Palestine and (2) To what extent the difference in field determine the interpersonal metafunction of the speaker. This study is largely qualitative but in order to answer those research questions, this study will be assisted by some descriptive quantification to observe the trend in the interpersonal meaning of the speaker. It applies Hallidayan theory of Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG) in analyzing the research data. The data were taken from the websites which are readily accessible to the public. Two different transcribed speeches are discovered to extract the data which are needed to investigate the interpersonal meaning. Subject, Finite and Modality are the main tools to realize the interpersonal meaning of Netanyahu in his speech. It can be realized by discovering the use of those parts in his speech in different issue and occasion. It is found that Netanyahu‘s interpersonal meaning is realized through the placement of Subject and the utilization of Finite, Modality and Mood Adjuncts. It is also found that the differences of the field influence the interpersonal meaning of the speaker through the comparison of subject and finite. The findings in this present study are expected to be useful for some purposes in the future.Keywords: Interpersonal meaning, mood, modality.

Abstract:
This study is aimed to investigate the interpersonal meaning in students’ explanation texts. Six texts taken from students’ writings were used as the instruments of text analysis. The theories of Systemic Functional Linguistics and explanation text were used as the framework of the text analysis. The findings show that students have employed mood types which are formed by the Subject and Finite as Mood element and predicator and complement as Residue. The arrangement of Subject and Finite in the clauses demonstrates that declarative mood is used dominantly in the texts to realize the speech function of a statement. It suggests that the students have attempted to provide the information to the readers which are relevant to the social function of the explanation text. Moreover, the little use of modality in students’ texts indicates that the students present factual information. This evidence has shown the students’ efforts to position themselves in the texts and to build relationships with the readers. In conclusion, students have been able to create an effective explanation text which is intended to inform how something is done.

Abstract:
A new product launch is a popular strategy for companies to promote new products, publicize brand image, and connect with customers. It conforms to the four stages of the AIDA model: awareness, interest, desire and action. To introduce new products, the presentation speech conveys a plethora of interpersonal meanings. Based on the AIDA model, this thesis analyzes the interpersonal meaning of Apple’s current CEO Tim Cook’s speeches during Apple’s new product launches through mood, modality and person systems. This study aims to explore the types and distribution of lexico-grammatical resources that Cook adopts, and how these resources realize the interpersonal meaning and help Cook achieve alignment with the audience over Apple’s new product information in four steps of the AIDA model. The findings show that Tim Cook has an obvious preference for the resources in the speeches of Apple’s new product launches. He tends to use distinctive lexico-grammatical resources in four stages of the AIDA model to realize the interpersonal meaning.

Systemic Functional Linguistic offers a model of approach in analyzing discourse concerning to reveal how language is used to negotiated meaning. Research paper, also known as research article presents Jokowi Dodo’s Inauguration speech in terms of Ideational, interpersonal and textual meaning. Therefore, this study aimed to explain the realization of Ideational, Interpersonal and Textual Meaning in Inauguration speech. Descriptive qualitative Research design was used in this study with one Jokowi Dodo’s text speech taken as the subject of analysis . The findings revealed that the meanings were realized by the president’s language choice. Ideational meaning realized in research paper showed that the president presented his future dreams in state of doing through relational process and material process with help of other process types. However, Interpersonal meaning realized in the research paper showed that the research paper was carrying the speech role as giving information. Textual meaning was realized through the use of the speech opening and giving appreciate to participants who attended in Inauguration speech and also hopes to all participants. The realization of the meaning also could give benefit to participant and researcher in having guideline when they are giving speech in public area.

Self-consistency and congruence are indices used to measure individual mental health. We explored the correlations between interpersonal relationships, life meaning, self-consistency, and congruence in adolescents. Participants (N = 886) completed the Comprehensive Diagnosis Scale of Interpersonal Relationships, the Meaning in Life Questionnaire–Chinese Version, and the Self-Consistency and Congruence Scale. Results show there were strong positive correlations between participants' interpersonal relationships, life meaning, selfconsistency, and congruence. Further, life meaning mediated the connections between interpersonal relationships, self-consistency, and congruence. In addition to this indirect effect, interpersonal relationships directly affected participants' self-consistency and congruence. School- or individual-level interventions to help adolescents search for life meaning and improve interpersonal relationships could help improve their self-consistency and congruence.

Modern psychology considers meaning regulation, as an integral mechanism of personal development. A system of personal meanings develops in the processes of under-standing reality. Due to their polymodality personal meanings cannot be good or bad, but they are not the same. When confronted with unknown situations, the unevenness of the emerging personal meanings can lead to match or mismatch with the existing system of mean-ings. Coincidence, as agreement with a new fact, means meaning consonance. Mismatch, as a mismatch between new and existing information, means meaning disso-nance, as a kind of cognitive dissonance. An analysis of modern psychological literature shows that there are two main plans for the action of meaning dissonances: the dissonance of individual meanings in the implementation of real interactions and the dissonance of common mean-ings during the translation of interpersonal meaning formations. It is proposed to consider that meaning ac-quires a personal coloring due to the processes of both consonance and dissonance positioning of meaning con-structs in the meaning sphere of the subject. The revealed dichotomy of the meaning formation processes shows the possibility of manifestation of meanings bipolarity, which is revealed in the process of transition from the internal to the external world and in collisions with oth-er meaning systems. Then it can be assumed that the ef-fect of meaning dissonance manifests itself in two ways: firstly, in terms of real interactions as a discord of indi-vidual meanings, and secondly, in terms of translation of interpersonal meaning constructs as a dissonance of common meanings. In the course of such an external for-mation, meaning becomes already a personal meaning in the consciousness of a particular person.

Abstract:
How does monetization affect interpersonal relationships? Drawing on social phenomenology, I argue that an answer must account for money’s symbolic dualism: On the one hand, as Zelizer has shown, money is differentially earmarked according to the interpersonal relationships it flows through. On the other hand, in everyday life, people tend to associate money with cold impersonality. Money’s dual association with both the interpersonal and the impersonal imbues the relationships it flows through with a sense of risk, which I call “the risk of lost meanings.” Analyzing the implications of this sense of risk, I argue that it turns trust into a relational preoccupation and constrains intersubjective experience. The risk of lost meanings may motivate risk-avoidance strategies, but these strategies are largely counterproductive. Shedding new light on a long-standing debate in the sociology of money, I discuss the implications of this argument for analyses of monetary developments and local currencies.

The aims of this study are to explore the distribution features of modal verbs in abstracts from scientific papers, analyze the reasons for those features and figure out the role modal verbs play in achieving interpersonal meaning. The study has selected 60 abstracts randomly from Progress in Aerospace Sciences from 2015 to 2019 as research samples. It combines Halliday’s value of modality with Biber et al.’s two classifications to process modal verbs. The instruments adopted in this research are AntConc 3.2.4, manual sorting and SPSS Statistics 21. Based on the results, the study finds that: firstly, the overall occurrence of modal verbs in 60 abstracts is 59 times, among which low-value modal verbs are the most frequently distributed (74.6%), median-value modal verbs the second (22.0%) and high-value modal verbs the least (3.4%); secondly, the achievement of interpersonal meaning relies on value of modality, and when the value of modality is lower, a better degree of interpersonal meaning can be achieved; thirdly, high-value modal verbs achieve tough interpersonal meaning, median-value modal verbs achieve comfortable interpersonal meaning, and low-value modal verbs achieve harmonious interpersonal meaning.

It will be easier and more interesting to analyze the interpersonal meaning through the literary works that we hear everyday such as song lyrics.The objectives of this study are to describe the interpersonal meaning realized in the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Love strong”, to know the most dominant Mood Types and Speech Roles, to describe the Modality realized in those lyrics and to describe the contribution of interpersonal meaning in the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Love strong”. The design of the research was descriptive qualitative. The main sources of data in this research were the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Love strong”. There were five song lyrics that the writers analyzed in this study. The analysis of the data used the following steps: those followings, listened to the songs, found the printed lyrics of the songs, analyzed the clauses based on the Mood-Residue elements and found the Modality through Modal Finite and Mood Adjunct. Next step, the writer classified the clause to get the most dominant of Mood Types and Speech Roles. The last, the writers drew the conclusion of this study. The results of data analysis shows that the interpersonal meaning in the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Love strong” realized in the wordings of the clause if analyzed based on the elements of interpersonal meaning, the most dominant Mood Types is Declarative, the most dominant Speech Roles is Giving Information, the Modality realized through the use of modal finite and mood adjunct, and the contribution of interpersonal meaning in the lyrics of Christina Perri’s Album “Love strong” for teaching of a modern English grammar is to help the students easier and more interesting to analyze the interpersonal meaning through the lyrics of their favorite song or favorite singer. The conclusions of this study are; the realization of the interpersonal meaning in the song lyrics, we should read them thoroughly while analyzing based on the interpersonal meaning elements. Abstract:
This study aims to find out the interpersonal meaning and the intersemiotic complementary in public service advertisement of selected violence against children prevention campaign. Employing Royce’s intersemiotic complementary framework (2001), it analyzed how the visual and verbal signs work together to create common messages sent to the public as viewers/readers. Based on the analysis, it is found out that the five aspects of visual features --visual contact, social distance, involvement, power relation, and modality—have worked together to construct the interpersonal meaning. The close up shot showing the detail of the bruises on the nose emphasizing a high modality; it represents a high naturality. The boy in bruises looks directly at viewers’ eyes, demanding a help from them. The equal frame on the picture tells the readers that the boy can be part of every one’s life. It may happen in any place and the readers are asked to do take an action. In terms of verbal features, the declarative sentences are used to inform the facts. It is to highlite the clear message in the image, saying that such a violence may be taken by a mother who inherits the boy’s nose—the one who actually loves him very much, but the situation has changed her a lot. Through the way the producers organize the verbal text the readers may take their action to stop the child abuse. Both visual and verbal modes are contributes to convey interpersonal meaning. The intersemiotic complementary in the advertisement is realized interpersonally through the meanings projected in both modes through the reinforcement of address.

Abstract:
This paper discusses brain activity during the understanding of sentences from the perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistics. We focus on ideational meaning (propositional meaning in an ordinary sense) and interpersonal meaning (as is typically seen in honorific expressions). The present study is an experimental exploration of the spatiotemporal pathways of neuronal activation. Japanese sentences containing and not containing honorific expressions are compared in electroencephalography experiments. In these experiments, the sentences without honorific expressions have ideationalmeaning, but those with honorific expressions have both ideational and interpersonal meanings. Through the use of the equivalent current dipole source localization method, the spatiotemporal processes of activation of the brain are analyzed. There is a single pathway during the understanding of the sentences without honorific expressions; this pathway is mainly observed in the left hemisphere. On the other hand, there are three pathways in the case of the sentences with honorific expressions, two of which are observed in the right hemisphere. The remaining pathway is the same as the aforementioned single pathway. This fact strongly suggests that the common pathway is concerned with processing ideational meaning. The other two pathways observed during understanding of the sentences with honorific expressions are considered to be related to processing interpersonal meaning.

Abstract:
Writers construct two entities or events as opposites in specific context by using language resources realizing semantic opposition, such as antonyms, parallel structure and conjunction for adversity. The construction of such temporary opposites (unconventional opposition) facilitates the presentation of writer’s stance and strengthens the interaction between the writer and readers. From Systemic Functional Linguistics, this study analyzes the ideational, interpersonal and textual meaning of unconventional opposition in discourse. It is found that the insertion of the opposite participants and process types in the current field contributes to demonstrate the ideational meaning of the discourse topic more fully, thus facilitating readers’ understanding; in the respect of interpersonal meaning, the opposite meaning triggered by negation can exclude the readers’ possible expectations while that triggered by attitudinal resources helps to negotiate appraisal meanings with readers, that is, affect, judgment of social behavior or appreciation of product; in the sense of textual meaning, unconventional opposition assigns a reader-friendly text structure, information flow and cohesion mechanism.

Circumplex models have organized interpersonal behavior along 2 orthogonal dimensions-communion (which emphasizes connection between people) and agency (which emphasizes one person's influence over the other). However, many empirical studies have disconfirmed certain predictions from these models. We therefore revised the model in 4 ways that highlight interpersonal motives. In our revision: (a) the negative pole of communion is indifference, not hostility; (b) a given behavior invites (not evokes) a desired reaction from the partner; (c) the complement of a behavior is a reaction that would satisfy the motive behind that behavior; (d) noncomplementary reactions induce negative affect. If the motive is unclear, the meaning of the behavior is ambiguous. This ambiguity helps explain failures in social support, miscommunications in everyday life, and features of most personality disorders. The model emphasizes measurable individual differences: Reactions that are complementary for one person need not be complementary for another.

Outpatient clinic interactions have direct impacts on the medical consultation of doctors, the health of patients and the doctor-patient relationship. In an outpatient clinic interaction, the doctor constructs and the patient reconstructs the meaning. Based on the interpersonal metafuncion of systemic functional linguistics, this research investigated the characteristics of mood and modality in Chinese and western outpatient clinic interactions and identified the interpersonal functions of these interactions. It is found that the Chinese outpatient clinic interactions have positive semantic meanings and construe a harmonious interaction, while the western outpatient clinic interactions have negative semantic meanings and construe a contradictory interaction.

This study examined the mediating effect of meaning in life and the moderating effect of interpersonal trust on the relationship between regulatory emotional self-efficacy (RESE) and prosocial behavior among Chinese college students. RESE and prosocial behavior were evaluated via a survey of 942 participants (51.59% females), showing that RESE was linked to prosocial behavior, and meaning in life mediated the relationship between RESE and prosocial behavior. Additionally, the interpersonal trust could reinforce RESE and meaning in life. In summary, RESE can not only be directly related to the prosocial behavior of college students through the meaning in life, and interpersonal trust can promote the relationship between RESE and meaning in life.

In responding to this, the present study tried to reveal interpersonal meaning in RAs’ discussion sections. The data taken were from five reputable international journals categorized in the subject of language and linguistics indexed by Scopus with the SJR value above one. Having been analyzed by using the theory of modality from Halliday (1994), the data demonstrated that three types of modality values were identified such as high, middle, and low. In addition, there were some disparities among the results investigated. If sequenced, the low outnumbered the middle and the high values. This suggested that the authors had different assessments towards the topics written.

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan objek penelitian adalah variasi keluasan makna interpersonal yang terealisasi dalam sistem gramatika MOOD pada tiap klusa dari ketiga teks multitranslasi. Data dianalisis dengan teknik hubung banding dengan membandingkan masing-masing klausa dari ketiga teks tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tingginya tingkat variasi keluasan makna interpersonal pada T1:T2, sebesar 23,89, dan rendahnya tingkat variasi tersebut pada T1:T3, sebesar 2,82. Tingginya tingkat variasi disebabkan penambahan klausa pada T2, pengaruh skrip cerita film, faktor tujuan, serta faktor pembaca T2. Rendahnya tingkat variasi disebabkan persamaan akar bahasa dan budaya antara T1 dan T3 serta faktor tujuan penerjemahan. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ THE INTERPERSONAL MEANING BREADTH VARIATIONS ON MULTILINGUAL TRANSLATION TEKS “LASKAR PELANGI” IN BAHASA INDONESIA, ENGLISH, AND MALAY Abstract This study is aimed to describe the interpersonal meaning breadth variations on multilingual translation teks “Laskar Pelangi” in bahasa Indonesia, English, and Malay also to explore the motivating factors that occur inside those variations. This study was a descriptive qualitative research study. The object was interpersonal meaning breadth variations that were showed by the MOOD grammatical system in the clauses of the multilingual translation texts. The data were analyzed by comparing the realization of functional elements of the MOOD grammatical system in each clause of the text. The results of this study show that variations in interpersonal meaning breadth of T1:T2 are high, 23.89 whereas the variations of T1:T3 are low, 2.82. For T1:T2, the variation in interpersonal meaning breadth is high, because of the addition of clauses in T2, the influence of movie script, the translation purpose, and the target text’s readers. Meanwhile, for T1:T3, the variation in interpersonal meaning breadth is low because of the non-existence of new clauses in T2, the same language root of Indonesian and Malay and the purpose of translation. This research was aimed at describing and explaining the interpersonal meaning, types of mood system, and modality found in the thesis abstracts. The method used was descriptive qualitative and specifically designed as discourse analysis. The data were taken from two abstracts, written by undergraduate students, majoring in English Language Education atdifferent colleges in Ponorogo, East Java. They were non-native of English. Units of analysis were clauses, words, and phrases. The data were analyzed by using interpersonal meaning theory, proposed by Halliday. The result of this research reveals that firstly, the interpersonal meaning of the abstracts is realized through wordings of the clauses based on the mood system (subject and finite), while the residue is realized through the element of predicator, complement, and adjunct. Secondly, the mood types found are mostly declarative, and only a few of them are interrogative. The declarative form is characterized by order of subject followed by finite, while the interrogative form is characterized by the use of question word, instead of the order of finite and subject. Thirdly, in terms of modality, the abstracts dominantly display the use of low degree modality (can, could, may) which signals the writer’s intention to weaken the authority toward the readers.

AbstractThis study deals with the interpersonal meaning revealed the use of modality system in students’ hortatory exposition text at one of universities in Ciamis. Five texts of students’ hortatory exposition were analyzed to find out what types of modality are used and what interpersonal meaning which is contained through modality system. This study employed Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG) based on Halliday and Matthiessen’s (2004) framework since it can seek and identify the level of language structured which makes kinds of meaning.The findings showed that all of clauses which contained modality system indicated author’s interpersonal meaning with different value of language in the texts. The different types of language value and polarity also indicated the author’s interpersonal meaning in the texts. In addition, this analysis concluded that five texts comparised several modalization and modulation types which appeared with different ranks. In interpersonal meaning, language is used to see the relationship between the speaker/writer with the listener/reader. Using interpersonal meaning to analyze written text is useful to see how the writer gives information and suggestion to the reader. This study investigated the interpersonal meaning realizing in the report text that is 354 clauses from 20 texts written by the undergraduate students. It used the framework from the Systemic Functional Linguistics by Eggins (2004) and Halliday and Matthiessen (2014). This research is qualitative case study research because it focuses on the analysis or interpretation of the written material. It analyzes mood system, modality system, speech function and students’ mastery in writing report text. From the analysis, it found that mostly declarative mood realized in the report text, it is 334 clauses and it is categorized as statement in the speech function. In the modality system, the most type realized in the text is modalization type, it is 38 clauses. By analyzing report text using interpersonal meaning, it was found the students’ mastery in the writing skill. The are only some students did mistakes in writing some clauses. Therefore using interpersonal meaning to analyze text help to know the mastery of the students in writing and also can improve their skill. It can be said that interpersonal meaning also realize in the report text. The realization can be seen from the types of mood, modality and speech function that were found in the report text.

AbstractObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate associations among spirituality, coping strategies, quality of life (QOL), and the effects of depression and anxiety thereon in cancer patients.MethodIn total, 237 cancer patients referred to a psycho-oncology clinic at a university hospital in Korea were enrolled. After identifying predictors of patient QOL in a stepwise regression model, we developed a hypothetical path model wherein interpersonal coping was considered as a mediating variable between spirituality (meaning/peace) and QOL and wherein depression and anxiety affected each of these three variables.ResultThe direct effect of spirituality (meaning/peace) on QOL was 36.7%. In an indirect model, interpersonal coping significantly mediated the relationship between spirituality (meaning/peace) and QOL. Depression exerted the largest negative effect on spirituality (meaning/peace), interpersonal coping, and QOL. Anxiety had negative effects on spirituality (meaning/peace) and QOL, but a positive effect on interpersonal coping.Significance of resultsInterpersonal coping strategies work as a partial mediator of the relationship between meaning/peace subscales of spirituality and QOL. Effective management of depression may help in achieving better outcomes associated therewith. Greater attention and efforts to improve social connectedness and meaning of life in spiritual well-being may improve the QOL of cancer patients.

The interpersonal communication of beggars involves the beggars’ interaction with their donors, and interaction among beggars. This communication incorporates symbols that have been given meaning, both verbal and non-verbal. This study aims to determine the motives that encourage someone to become a beggar in Banda Aceh, the effectiveness of the city government’s policy in handling the begging activities and to find out the process of interpersonal communication of the beggars. This study applies the descriptive qualitative method with phenomenology approach, to describe the meaning of some people’s lives. The research subjects are the beggars who are willing and able to provide the required information in-depth. The result shows that the interpersonal communication process among the beggars and the beggars with the donors are conducted through symbolic interaction by using language and symbols, and role-play performance creating condition and atmosphere which gave certain meanings. The communities performing such interactions had the ability to utilise symbols to create an impression that attracted the attention of donors. The actions raised people’s sympathy who will give charities to them in any expected feedback. The understanding of this issue is important for the realization of the implementation of the regulation but still maintaining the aspirations of the citizens who uphold Islamic values, the concept of giving to the people in need.

The objective of this study is to describe the aspects of Interpersonal Meaning in the lyric of Adele’s Album 21. The design of the research was descriptive qualitative method. The writers analyzed the a song entitled ”Don’t You Remember” based on the Subject, Finite, Predicator, Complement and Adjunct that describe in the table. The writers classified them based on Mood-Residue elements and made the conclusion based on the research findings. The results of the data analysis shows that the interpersonal meaning in the lyric Don’t You Remember of Adele’s album “21”, there are only 4 clauses which do not have aspects of interpersonal meaning from 28 clauses which be analyzed because the clauses only have one element, it is residue. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini dilakukan dengan observasi dan dokumentasi untuk memperlihatkan interpersonal meaning dan kategori mood serta speech functions yang digunakan dalam tuturan tokoh Marcus. This research examines the interpersonal meaning realized in the conversation texts in English Textbook for Senior High School Grade X. The purpose of this research is to describe the interpersonal meaning realized in the conversation texts in English Textbook. The interpersonal meaning that is analyzed namely the most dominant mood elements, residue elements and modality types. The design of the research was descriptive qualitative. The main sources of data in this research were the conversation texts realized in the English textbook. There were 58 conversation texts and 400 clauses gotten from those 58 texts that the researcher analyzed in this study. The results of data analysis showed that the interpersonal meaning realized in the conversation text: the most dominant Mood Types was declarative (298 clauses), then interrogative (94 clauses) and the least was imperative (11 clauses). While, the most dominant residue elements was complements are the highest dominant (329 clauses), then followed by predicators (246 clauses), the last was adjuncts (94).

Abstract:
Tujuan penelitian ini mendeskripsikan tingkat variasi keluasan makna interpersonal dalam teks translasional yang melibatkan dua bahasa, yaitu bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Prancis serta mendeskripsikan faktor kontekstual yang memicu terjadinya variasi keluasan makna interpersonal dalam dua teks translasional. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode simak, dengan melihat mood dan residue dari Eggin. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa variasi keluasan makna interpersonal lapis pertama yang diwujudkan dalam T1-T2 didominasi oleh variasi 0 (paling rendah). Hal ini dikarenakan T1-T2 keduanya bersarana grafik dengan kecirian bahasa tulis yang di dalamnya bercirikan Mood dan Residu yang tersurat. Selain itu, penerjemah T2 dari awal telah memutuskan T1 menjadi intertekstual konteks T2. Adapun bukti empiriknya adalah judul T1-T2 mempunyai makna kata yang sama sehingga dengan otomatis isi selanjutnya, ranah sosial dalam T2 selalu terkait dengan T1. Adapun pendorong penerjemah T2 memutuskan T1 menjadi intertekstual konteks T2 karena penerjemah T2 menganut ideologi makna berangkat dari T1 sehingga dalam melakukan tindak penerjemahan, penerjamah T2 setia dengan T1.Kata Kunci: variasi, keluasan makna interpersonal The breadth variation of interpersonal meaning on the bilingual translational text of “perburuan” in bahasa Indonesia and France AbstractThis research aims to describe the degree of the interpersonal meaning breadth on the translational texts which involves two languages, in this case Bahasa Indonesia and French. It also aims to describe the factors of the interpersonal meaning breadth on those texts. The data collection was conducted by observing the texts. The findings show that the variation of interpresional meaning breadth of the first layer, which is represented T1-T2, is dominated by variation 0 (the lowest variation). This is beacause T1-T2 is in the form of written text in which the characteristic of written text is the extrinsic Mood and Residue. Moreover, the T2 translator decided that T1 became the T2 intertextual context. The empirical proof is represented in the title of T1-T2 which has the same meaning so that the social context is always related to T1. The motive of the translator T2 to decide that T1 became intertextual of T2 is that he follows the ideology that meaning derives from T1 so that in the process of translation, he sticks to the T1.Keywords:variation, interpersonal meaning breadth

Abstract:
This study deals with analyzing language used for communication. It analyzes a victory speech by Donald Trump as the newest president of America from the perspective of SFL especially dealing with the Tenor of the discourse of the speech. In other words, this study is about interpersonal meaning of the speech which can be used to dig up speaker’s attitudes towards what s/he is saying in the speech. In conducting this study, I had two objectives to achieve. First, this study tried to understand the interpersonal meaning of Donald Trump’s victory speech by looking deeply on the Mood system of the clauses of the speech which means analyzing the two constituents of Mood which are Subjects and Finites of the clauses in the speech. Second, it also tried to uncover Donald Trump’s attitudes towards Americans by applying the Appraisal theory proposed by Martin. Appraisal offers an ideal analytical framework to systematically identify interpersonal meanings in language. The result of analysis showed that the most subject found in the speech was I – Donald Trump which meant that Trump himself was responsible to what he was saying in the speech. The Finites in the speech were mostly stated in Simple Present Tense which was meant that in delivering his speech, Trump gave the general truth at the moment of the speaking. Since most of the clauses were declarative clauses, Trump was considered to share information in this case he share his vision and mission for future America to the audience. That shared information was further analyzed with the Appraisal theory which led to the conclusion that Trump gave positive attitudes towards Americans. Based on this study, finally we come to an understanding that it’s important to understand any kinds of speech well. One among ways to do it is by analyzing that speech through its interpersonal meaning and its appraisal system. This study is useful for readers, especially English Department students in order to be able to understand the meaning behind a text well.

Abstract:
Systemic Functional Linguistics offers a model of approach in analyzing discourse concerning to reveal how language is used to negotiate meaning. Research paper, also known as research article presents students’ work in a process of academic which involving students’ understanding and interpreting knowledge in applying knowledge in a certain phenomenon. Therefore, this study aimed to explain the realization of Interpersonal, Ideational, and Textual Meaning in graduate students’ research paper. Descriptive qualitative research design was used in this study with ten research papers form graduate students of English language education program in Universitas Negeri Semarang were taken as the subject of analysis. Mood, Transitivity, and Theme analysis was used to achieve the data analysis. The findings revealed that the meanings were realized by the students’ language choice. Interpersonal meaning realized in the research papers showed that the research papers were carrying the speech role as giving information. Moreover, the students took role as the information giver in the third person point of view. Ideational meaning realized in research papers showed that the students presented their experience in state of being and doing through relational process and material process with help of other process types, participant roles and circumstances to support their presenting. Textual meanings were realized through the use of theme structure by giving high concern on the subject of the clause as the main delivered message point. The realization of the meanings also could give benefit to students in having the guideline when they are proposed to write research paper.

The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of participants in the interpersonal relationship improvement group counseling program for Seoul National University students to understand and describe its essential meaning. In this study, to analyze the participants’ experiences and subjective meanings through the group counseling program, the descriptive phenomenological method of Giorgi(2009) was applied. 7 undergraduate students of Seoul National University had in-depth interviews on their experiences in the group counseling program to improve interpersonal relationships and the data had been analyzed. As a result of the analysis, 5 components and 12 sub-components were derived from a total of 241 semantic units. The results of the study were <Before participating in group counseling: Seeking perfection in interpersonal relationships>, <Early stage of participating in group counseling: recognizing the difficulty in interaction and desire for relationship>, <Mid-stage of participating in group counseling: Active interaction and acceptable experience>, <Later-stage of participating in group counseling: freedom and self-acceptance in relationships>, <After participating in group counseling: improving interpersonal relationships and strengthening emotional control capabilities>. Through this study, the experience of undergraduates of Seoul National University students participating in the interpersonal relationship improvement group counseling program and its meaning were examined in depth, and the counseling implications for change and growth were derived and described

Abstract:
This article investigates individual knowledge sharing behaviors (KSBs) in company-hosted virtual communities of practice (CVCs), where KSBs are guided mainly by the sense of virtual community (SVC) and the shared meanings that are formed via the recurring communicative patterns and emotional responses in the interpersonal communication processes. The symbolic convergence theory (SCT) addresses the significance of the shared meanings of a social group in facilitating the harmony among and the favorable behaviors of the members of the group. By adopting SCT, the authors examine the effects of SVC and shared-meaning-related factors on KSBs in CVCs. Data collected from 159 CVC participants were analyzed to examine the research model. The authors found that shared language and shared emotional connection significantly influence KSBs both directly and indirectly via SVC. The research findings highlight the importance of achieving shared meaning among individuals in CVCs to encourage interpersonal knowledge sharing via effective communication processes.

This research presents an interpersonal meaning analysis of two online news concerning Ahok�s blasphemy case in the two online news portals. The two selected news coming from The Jakarta Post and Republika.co.id were analyzed to find out the mood types and to describe the underlying reason of the news from the differences of modality system. This descriptive qualitative research involved the analysis of mood and modality types of clauses identified. As results, it shows that the interpersonal meaning was applied. Yet, not all mood or modality types appeared in the two online news. There is only one mood and one modality type appeared, namely indicative which is declarative type and modalization which is probability type. Therefore, it can be concluded that both writers used the same mood and modality types in the online news of Ahok�s blasphemy case as well as their interpersonal meaning are determined by contextual factors such as the aims or needed in giving information about the news event of Ahok�s blasphemy case in Indonesia.Keywords: Interpersonal meaning, Ahok, blasphemy case, online news
