Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to explore how elderly people in Gävle cope with their life by using of Internet and what are their perceived benefits and barriers of the use of Internet. Qualitative methods were used with face-to-face interviews and email correspondence to gather the data. Six elderly people participated in this study. Coping theory was used to analyse the results. The results were divided into three parts. They were describing the use of Internet, benefits and barriers of using the Internet and reasons behind using the Internet and coping. Benefits include connectedness, gratification, usefulness, and active learning experience. Barriers include limitation, distrust and frustration. This paper used the coping theory to try to describe how these persons adjust the way of thinking and the way of behaving and how they use these strategies to cope with the daily life. It was found that Internet for elderly people is becoming more important nowadays and also it is significant to know how they think about the Internet.

Abstract:
The Internet, undoubtedly, is the most influential technical invention of the 20th century that affects and constantly changes all aspects of our day-to-day lives nowadays. Although it is hard to predict its long-term consequences, the potential future of the Internet definitely relies on future Internet research. Prior to every development and deployment project, an extensive and comprehensive research study must be performed in order to design, model, analyze, and evaluate all impacts of the new initiative on the existing environment. Taking the ever-growing size of the Internet and the increasing complexity of novel Internet-based applications and services into account, the evaluation and validation of new ideas cannot be effectively carried out over local test beds and small experimental networks. The gap which exists between the small-scale pilots in academic and research test beds and the realize validations and actual deployments in production networks can be bridged by using virtual infrastructures. FEDERICA is one of the facilities, based on virtualization capabilities in both network and computing resources, which creates custom-made virtual environments and makes them available for Future Internet Researchers. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art research projects that have been using the virtual infrastructure slices of FEDERICA in order to validate their research concepts, even when they are disruptive to the test bed’s infrastructure, to obtain results in realistic network environments.

Abstract:
A web site was designed and constructed for the Research + Demonstration Facility (RDF) as a master’s thesis project to help educators teach future architects more interactively by using the dynamic medium of the Internet. Students and faculty will learn about evolving architectural research and technology as well as potential consequences of design decisions. Educators will be able to conduct online research, or tele-experiments, in the classroom thus allowing students to learn, in near real-time, the outcome or progress of research on and off campus. This project presents some of the possibilities of how the Internet can enhance research information delivery to students and faculty of architecture.

Abstract:
Thesis (MPhil)--Stellenbosch University, 2001.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: It is widely accepted that the Internet has become a valuable resource for social scientists, not just for the purpose of information exchange; via e-mail, discussion groups and electronic journals, but also as a medium for data collection. Its global nature gives a researcher access to a vast range of individuals located around the world. It also opens up access to difficult to hitherto penetrate study areas, such as sensitive research on deviant behaviour. Further, it is claimed that considerable savings to both research budgets and time frames are made possible with the new technology. It is not surprising, therefore, that a substantial body of research, employing the Internet as the primary means of data collection, already exists. This raises a number of questions as to how the Internet fares as a research tool. Are there any important methodological issues that this new approach raises? Do the traditional research methods suffice? Or are adaptations to existing methods necessary when difficulties are encountered? Does such changes affect the more fundamental question of the research design? These questions are considered in this thesis. To answer them, I consider two different types of empirical research designs. The first,' survey research, is a quantitative, numerical design that traditionally has a high level of control. I consider in detail issues of sampling, including non-response, and questionnaire design. The second design examined, ethnographic research, is qualitative, textual and generally has a low level of researcher control. I address the methods used in cyber ethnography and then discuss the considerable ethical concerns that feature in such research. I conclude that, on the whole, the existing methods can be transferred to Internet research. Indeed, some of the problems faced in traditional research are also considerations in Internet studies and can be overcome by employing similar techniques, such as using incentives to reduce non-response rates. However, a number of new problems emerge, such as the lack of paralinguistic cues, which require adaptations to the existing methods in order to produce results that can be considered valid and reliable. However, I also argue that these necessary adaptations to the methods do not affect the underlying principles found in the research design.

Abstract:
The quality of performed functions is crucially important in the process of use of interactive Internet maps. Functionality determines and describes the capabilities provided to the user: e.g., viewing, analysis or integral management of map elements. The dissertation presents original methodology that allows for integral quantitative evaluation the quality of implementation of functions of Internet maps of various types and complexity. The users‘ needs are taken into account. The methodology is based on the results of three investigations: user experiences, expert opinions and actual functions of existing interactive maps. All these aspects are combined into one complex, cumulative and flexible system of criteria and indices for qualimetric assessment of quality of implemented map functions. Original Internet based CartoUI software (www.cartoui.com) has been developed for practical implementation and verification of this methodology. The software also provides tools for analysis of information collected during particular research or for selected time span. CartoUI is available for everyone to use it for investigation into functionality of interactive Internet maps and for analysis of users‘ needs. The dissertation also provides detailed practical recommendations for development of diverse interactive internet maps tailored for different user groups. The recommendations are based on research on particular users‘ needs clarified by means of CartoUI.

De, la Rosa-Carrillo Ernesto León. "On the Language of Internet Memes." Diss., The University of Arizona, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/556817.

Full text
Abstract:
Internet Memes transverse and sometimes transcend cyberspace on the back of impossibly cute LOLcats speaking mangled English and the snarky remarks of Image Macro characters always on the lookout for someone to undermine. No longer the abstract notion of a cultural gene that Dawkins (2006) introduced in the late 1970s, memes have now become synonymous with a particular brand of vernacular language that internet users engage by posting, sharing and remixing digital content as they communicate jokes, emotions and opinions. For the purpose of this research the language of Internet Memes is understood as visual, succinct and capable of inviting active engagement by users who encounter digital content online that exhibits said characteristics. Internet Memes were explored through an Arts-Based Educational Research framework by first identifying the conventions that shape them and then interrogating these conventions during two distinct research phases. In the first phase the researcher, as a doctoral student in art and visual culture education, engaged class readings and assignments by generating digital content that not only responded to the academic topics at hand but did so through forms associated with Internet Memes like Image Macros and Animated GIFs. In the second phase the researcher became a meme literacy facilitator as learners in three different age-groups were led in the reading, writing and remixing of memes during a month-long summer art camp where they were also exposed to other art-making processes such as illustration, acting and sculpture. Each group of learners engaged age-appropriate meme types: 1) the youngest group, 6 and 7 year-olds, wrote Emoji Stories and Separated at Birth memes; 2) the middle group, 8-10 year-olds, worked with Image Macros and Perception memes, 3) while the oldest group, 11-13 year-olds, generated Image Macros and Animated GIFs. The digital content emerging from both research phases was collected as data and analyzed through a hybrid of Memetics, Actor-Network Theory, Object Oriented Ontology, Remix Theory and Glitch Studies as the researcher shifted shapes yet again and became a Research Jockey sampling freely from each field of study. A case is made for Internet Memes to be understood as an actor-network where meme collectives, individual cybernauts, software and source material are all actants interrelating and making each other enact collective agencies through shared authorships. Additionally specific educational contexts are identified where the language of Internet Memes can serve to incorporate technology, storytelling, visual thinking and remix practices into art and visual culture education. Finally, the document reporting on the research expands on the hermeneutics of Internet Memes and the phenomenological experiences they elicit that are otherwise absent from traditional scholarly prose. Chapter by chapter the dissertation was crafted as a journey from the academic to the whimsical, from the lecture hall to the image board (where Internet Memes were born), from the written word to the remixed image as a visual language that is equal parts form and content that emerges and culminates in a concluding chapter composed almost entirely of popular Internet Meme types. The online trading platform is quite popular, consumers get products through the platform. Consumers make misbehaving consumption due to sales methods and promotion methods. In traditional economics, consumers are considered completely rational, and think that consumers like to pursue the greatest benefit of the individual. American economist Richard H. Thaler questions the hypothesis of "complete rationality", he considers psychological and social factors as factors cause consumer misbehaving, and set "irrational behavior" as the research object. Therefore, this study explores consumer’s misbehaving in online shopping through the perspective of consumers. Consumer misbehaving describe of consumer’s behavior no intention to purchase. The message conveyed by the merchant affects consumers and leads to improper consumer behavior. This study attempts to analyze the internal influences of personality factors, external stimuli of business environment, demographics, and self-control theory. The statistical analysis method used in this study is the factor analysis in SPSS software, extracting the effects of various variables on consumer misbehaving in the results. The results of the study found that pricing strategies, store characteristics, contextual factors, and promotional activities have contributed to the dramatic increase in consumer misbehaving. This study focuses on the factors that influence impulse consumption, and combines the desire and determination in self-control theory, then the result explores the generation of consumer misbehaving. It can be used as a reference for future domestic business planning marketing strategies and promotion methods.

Since the early 1990s, Global warming and climate change have been viewed as important issues that affect our planet. In the past, the deforestation in Taiwan, not only reduce the area of the forest, but also had detrimental effects to the environment and wildlife, the preservation of our natural resources is very important. Taiwan is also greatly affected by these drastic weather changes, in the form of Global warming and the Green House Effect. Taiwan’s agriculture industry is also greatly affect by these environmental changes as well, the industry faces increased labor costs and the increase in the working age for agricultural workers, these issues will need to be addressed by the Taiwan agriculture industry. For the past couple of years, the farming industry has been focusing on the following: the production of natural or organic crops, the preservation of the diversity of animals, and the preservation of our land and water resources. In these ever changing environments, the implementation of Internet of things(IOT) in the current agricultural industry will not only improve the harvesting of crops but can also be used for the marketing of their products. This implementation can also work in parallel with traditional marketing strategies to help with the survival of the industry, while also developing tourist attractions within the industry. IOT can also be used to gather data from regional farms and provide to the government or research institutions to use as Big Data and implemented across all regions in the industry.

Due to the fast growing trend of globalization and electronic commerce, recreational industry have expanded their operation model from actual shop business to internet shopping, in an attempt to grasp business opportunities of the internet .Characteristics, roles and functions of the internet have gone through a fast evolution influenced by the massive needs of information from internet providers, users and consumers. The success of electronic commerce not only relies on the development of information technology to convince consumers to switch from buying from old fashioned actual shops to internet shopping, but more importantly, the understanding of which element of the internet environment consumers values the most, in order to customize strategies that will increase consumers’will on shopping from the internet. Participants of this research were internet members of Royal Chih-pen Hotel, only those that have made the reservation through the internet and have checked in were included. Internet questionnaire were emailed out to confirm participants identity, a total of 362 valid samples were collected. The results showed; 1. positive correlation between the perception of internet travel quality on brand image, 2. positive correlation between the perception of brand image on the willingness of internet shopping, 3. positive correlation between the perception of willingness of internet shopping on internet travel quality, 4. positive correlation between the perception of willingness of internet shopping and brand image, 5. no correlation between the perceptions of internet travel quality on the willingness of internet shopping. Due to the selection criteria of limiting participants to only Royal Chih-pen internet product consumers, the results suggests that even if the quality of the internet improves, an increase in consumers willingness to internet shopping may not be achieved effectively nor directly. Since a positive correlation was found between brand image in general and the willingness of internet shopping, brand image may elevate the sense of trust and the willingness of internet shopping, if an improvement of the current internet environment and atmosphere can be achieved and trust be gained from internet users, then the willingness of consuming may be raised effectively.

The computer network architecture goals of the 1960s (invention of packet services), 1970s (ARPA work leading to the Internet), 1980s (T1-based enterprise networks, ISDN, and B-ISDN), and 1990s (the reduction of communications to IP and the Web). Because of all the flurries to activities in enterprise networking, the multimedia network is an important development. Therefore, the transmission of audio data is essential to develop multifunction network. On the non-guaranteed packet-switched IP network, there is a H.323 standard which is presented by ITU-T for audio-data transmission. This book is based on H.323 document. First, we describe the H.323 network telephone system and present the methods of H.323 Terminate implementation. We also compare the advantages and disadvantages of these design methods. Then, we chose the embedded method to implement the H.323 Network Telephone Terminate. With the popularization and rapid advances of the Internet technology, Internet has become an indispensable part of people’s everyday life and also a major medium to disseminate information. Internet also gives rise to some emerging crimes, such as Internet fraud, theft and sexual crimes. The flourishing and constantly changing crimes are much harder to prevent and control, let alone eradicate, than conventional crimes. Faced with such borderless and unpredictable Internet crimes unlimited by time and space but with far reaching influence on the society, law enforcement, especially the police, must think seriously over their prevention. Internet features user privacy. As such, pornography finds its hotbed on the Internet. The abuse of pornography over the Internet has become an important issue that requires immediate attention. In recent years, a new type of media pornography was developed; that is, “enjo kosai”, commonly interpreted as the “sex trade over the Internet.” This research explores the concept and characteristics of Internet sex trading crime, the legitimacy of police in the disguise of John to track down and eradicate the crime, and the implementation of laws and policies. Five representative cases are induced, analyzed, and compared. Then, based on experience and professional judgment, the reasons behind prosecuting or not prosecuting are analyzed to examine the legitimacy of the tactics police use to eradicate crimes. A procedure is with an estimated population of 75-105 billion people in the world in 2050, the demand for food will face doubling strong pressure. Taiwan is a net importer of grain, and its calorie-based food self-sufficiency rate is relatively low. At the same time, under the predicament of an increasingly severe climate caused by climate change, food supply shortages and rising food prices will inevitably occur. In recent years, the aging of the rural population and the declining birthrate have led to a serious shortage of agricultural manpower, and the agricultural productivity is bound to be affected. It is also constrained by our country’s natural environmental restrictions, high agricultural production cost; it’s difficult in competing with other countries. To increase agricultural productivity, we must strengthen the adjustment of industrial structure and innovation in science and technology, and then we have the opportunity to develop smart agriculture that belongs to Taiwan. This paper is developed through the cloud technology, big data analysis, internet of things, intelligent machinery, and sensor applications in agriculture to help small farmers reduce the impact of aging population, labor shortage, and extreme climate on the industry. Through Agriculture 4.0 to attract more people into the agricultural market to reduce labor aging, allow farmers to easily manage farming and improve production quality.

The research was to study the casual relationship among internet behavior, internet literacy, and internet ethics for senior students of Taipei County elementary school, as well as to analyze their difference in terms of students’ background variables. The research used a self-reported survey in which measures were developed by the previous research. The research samples were senior students randomly selected from public elementary schools in Taipei County. The 1,350 of total 1,380 were returned, yielding a response rate of 97.8%. After ruling out the incomplete responses, 1,302 valid responses were analyzed. Data was analyzed by using SPSS software and the statistic method included descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, chi-square test, Pearson’s correlation, and multiple regression analysis. According to the results of this study, the conclusions were summarized as following. 1.The distributions of the internet behavior I.On average, the students used internet 3.27 times per week, 3.31 hours per week, and 4.5 year-of-usage per student. As for the place of using internet, 89% were at home. Reasons for using internet were mainly for playing games and information search. II.Elementary school students’internet behavior varied significantly from sexuality, grade, internet facilities at home, usage/ownership of home computer, and to parents’ attitude towards the way how kids using internet. 2.The distributions of the internet literacy I.Internet literacy of elementary school students were above average. II.Elementary school students’internet literacy varied significantly from sexuality, grade, internet facilities at home, usage/ownership of home computer, and to parents’ attitude towards the way how kids using internet. 3.The distributions of the internet ethics I.Elementary school students were positive and active. II.Elementary school students’ internet ethics varied significantly from sexuality, grade, internet facilities at home, usage/ownership of home computer, and to parents’ attitude towards the way how kids using internet. 4.Correlation among internet behavior, internet literacy, and internet ethics I.For internet behavior, the level of ‘internet usage frequency’and‘internet hours per usage’ associates with internet literacy and internet ethics; the level of ‘internet usage years” and ‘on-line location” only varied with internet literacy II.Students’ internet literacy associated with internet ethics positively. Four variables – internet knowledge, non-internet ethics, internet capability and internet usage frequency per week can explain 40.7% variance of internet ethics. 5.According to the findings and conclusions above, I would like to make suggestions as following. I.For the Ministry and Bureaus of Education i.To substantiate information facilities at school and strengthen students’ information capability. ii.To push family education and improve parents’ internet literacy. II.For school management i.To incorporate internet ethics issues properly to improve students’ internet literacy. ii.To reinforce education of ethics on students and put internet-ethics standards into practice. III.For elementary school teachers i.To lift up teachers’ level of internet literacy and develop proper attitude of internet ethics. ii.Teachers should occasionally give students solid internet ethics examples of students’ reference and educate. The goal of the present study was to investigate the relationship between personality traits, attitudes towards the Internet, and Internet use. This study was regarded as important because the Internet is increasingly becoming an important part of everyday life, and is changing society as we know it. 224 third year psychology students participated in the study. The existing literature indicated that the personality traits of Extraversion and Openness to Experience were likely to influence Internet use. Attitudes could also be expected to influence volitional behaviour, such as voluntary Internet use. Other research has also found exposure to be positively related to attitudes. A self-constructed questionnaire collected information relating to computer and Internet use, as well as attitudes towards the Internet. A short personality measure, namely the Saucier (1994) 40-ltem Mini-marker set, was used to measure the personality traits of participants. Examination of the results obtained through correlational and multiple regression techniques supported the existing theory. The personality traits of Extraversion and Openness to Experience were found to predict Internet use in certain situations, with Openness emerging as particularly important in understanding computer and Internet use. Attitudes formed by exposure to the Internet, as measured by the self-constructed Internet exposure scale, was found to correlate positively with time spent on the Internet. The study support previous studies which found that the personality traits of Extraversion and Openness influence media use, and suggest that this influence is also present in relation to Internet use. It also supported the theory that a positive relationship exists between attitudes towards the Internet, specifically attitudes formed by exposure, and frequency of Internet use.

The online advertising agency is a new market, there are high risks and unclear profits. The purpose of this thesis is to solve the problem of selecting the most entrepreneurial strategy of online advertising agency industry in Taiwan, by formulating a decision-making algorithm adjusted to the experts’ professional consensus. The research in this issue examines from positioning theory, resource-based view and network theory. Due to some selecting criteria are qualitative by nature and often depend on experts’ judgment of approximation, it is difficult to elicit the complete, precise, and reliable knowledge from the experts. As mentioned above, a fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making method appears to be one of the feasible solutions to handle such difficult problems. Starting with reviewing the literatures and interviewing the executives, after screening, we collect five criteria and twenty four sub-criteria to construct the hierarchical structure for selecting the most entrepreneurial strategy. The fundamental concepts we have adopted include the expert interview, the eigenvector method, and the fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making method. The fuzzy Delphi method is integrated with the eigenvector method to form a set of pooled weights of the criteria, and the concepts of triangular fuzzy number and linguistic variables are used to assess the preference ratings of linguistic variables, ‘importance’ and ‘appropriateness’. Through the hierarchy integration, we obtain the final scores of alternatives. Then we use Chen’s ranking method to rank the final scores for choosing the optimal alternative. I hope that through this decision-making method, the online advertising agency can choice the fit entrepreneurial strategy.
