Abstract:
The number of tourist products sold on the Internet has increased remarkably in recent years. The hotel industry has figured prominently in this boom due to hotel bookings made via the Internet becoming increasingly popular. The reason for this upturn in online bookings is, in many cases, the possibility of booking at any time and the possible existence of lower prices. In order to achieve these lower prices, consumers must accept certain restrictions or conditions that hotels use to manage demand through yield management strategies. This paper analyses hotel Internet booking users in order to ascertain their socio-demographic characteristics and behaviour in regard to online purchase decisions. The ultimate goal is therefore to determine a user profile. With this information, hotel managers will be able to manage Internet hotel bookings.

Abstract:
A survey of 249 leisure travelers at four hotels in Seattle, Washington, finds overwhelming use of the internet for searching and booking hotel rooms, although a noticeable percentage still make telephone calls to book rooms. Eight of ten respondents used the web for a hotel room search. Of this group, 67 percent continued online to make their booking (on either the hotel’s page or a third-party site), 26 percent made telephone calls, and the remainder used travel agents or walked in to book rooms. Earlier research indicates that the personal contacts (notably by phone) are aimed at negotiating a price lower than that found online. For those booking electronically, hotel websites were used most commonly by this group of respondents (37 percent), following by third-party sites (30 percent) and opaque auction sites (25 percent). In contrast to studies from the early 1990s, this study found that women have surpassed men in information search activities. Also, those who purchased hotel rooms online trended toward being younger, having higher incomes, and purchasing more room-nights than those who used traditional distribution channels. Although the study findings cannot be generalized because of the sampling procedure, it is clear that a substantial number of travelers use the internet for search only, and then book another way (usually by phone). Women conduct much more research regarding potential hotels and rates than do men. Hotels’ own websites remain the first choice for booking rooms, but opaque auction sites are almost as popular as regular third-party sites. For this sample, Priceline and other similar sites accounted for 25 percent of all bookings. Finally, even those travelers who did not use the internet for any purpose in connection with their hotel stay still had a relatively favorable opinion of the concept of online booking.

Abstract:
Travellers can plan and arrange holidays themselves online or through the supplier, or use the services of a travel organizer, such as a travel agent. Consumers of travel services will seek to optimize choices by selecting a distribution channel which will provide them with the greatest perceived value. The primary goal of this study is to explore the underlying factors that influence consumer behaviour in making travel decisions, with specific reference to choosing between booking through a travel agent or online. Research with a perspective on travel decision-making in South Africa is limited. This study surveyed 408 respondents residing in South Africa using a structured questionnaire examining preference in booking holiday flights or accommodation through a travel agent or Internet. Exploratory factor analysis was used to identify factors influencing traveller decision-making. Factors that influence travel decision-making were identified to include ‘trust’, ‘convenience and adoption of technology’, ‘best deal and price’, and ‘personal contact’. Travellers who preferred booking through the Internet found the potential of technology to save time and effort and to be convenient, due to the Internet being available day and night, important advantages of booking online. Travellers who preferred booking through a travel agent placed a premium on personal contact and social interaction between traveller and travel agent. They further valued the travel experience and ability of the travel agent to group transactions.

Abstract:
As people feel more comfortable using the Internet, online hotel bookings has become popular in recent years. Understanding the drivers of online booking intention and behavior can help hotel managers to apply corresponding strategies to increase hotel booking rates. Thus the purpose of this study is to investigate the factors influencing the use intention and behavioral intention of online hotel booking. The proposed model has assimilated factors from the extended Unified theory of Acceptance and use of Technology (UTAUT2) along with age, gender, and experience as moderators. Data were collected by conducting a field survey questionnaire completed by 488 participants. The results showed that behavioral intention is significantly and positively influenced by performance expectancy, social influence, facilitating condition, hedonic motivation, price value, and habit behavior. Use behavior is positively influenced by facilitating condition and hedonic motivation. As for moderators, gender moderates the relationships between performance expectancy, social influence, and behavioral intention. Age moderates the relationships between effort expectancy, social influence, hedonic motivation, and behavioral intention. Experience moderates the relationships between social influence, price value, and behavioral intention and between habit behavior and use behavior. Based on the results, recommendations for hotel managers are proposed. Furthermore, research limitations and future directions are discussed.

Abstract:
- By offering an efficient healthcare booking service (CUP) for citizens it becomes necessary to take into consideration the current tools in which it is implemented. The existing CUP cannot offer a range of technological solutions, which makes accessing the services of the booking system possible. The challenge for CUP, the new generation, consist of making available, utilising the internet, a range of integrated services that permit the citizen to directly perform the various operations connected within the booking process, completely autonomously from home. Following similar approaches undertaken by some Regional Government projects, it may be possible to offer a new improved booking service on a much higher excellence scale. The CUP represents for many citizens the doorway to our National Healthcare Service and today they still have to go back repeatedly to the CUP counter to get satisfaction. The solution is found in the new innovative CUP electronic booking system which "takes on board" the citizen, eliminating the so-called "closed reservation", collecting territorial and timing preferences on behalf of them, and contacting him at home or on the mobile phone when the requested preferences have been satisfied from new place availability or cancellation. Keywords: reservation; patient services; internet; access; waiting lists.

Abstract:
The development in the field of technology is currently growing rapidly, one of the technological developments at this time is the internet. Then what is obtained by using the internet can also be utilized in the field of transportation, namely by making an Android mobile-based travel ticket booking information system using a smartphone. Travel is a type of transportation service that serves passengers with a door to door or pickup system at the booking address, then delivered to the destination address. However, the process of booking travel tickets today is still done traditionally by coming to the counter or branch office of travel so it takes a lot of time and is inefficient, and there are also several other ways to call a travel agent, sometimes such methods are not effective because of the occurrence of a pile of tickets without accurate data. Therefore this study aims to facilitate travel passengers in searching or booking Travel tickets in the West Sumatra Region by designing an Android mobile application. Apart from that in providing location information to the drivers of the traveling fleet to pick up passengers at certain locations by using Google Maps, and application features such as travel schedules, ticket checks, ticket reservations, and account registration.

Abstract:
Purpose – This paper aims to report the findings of an empirical research focusing on Hong Kong online users’ intention to book online tourism products with latest figures. Focusing on the technology acceptance model (TAM), this case study extends the recent research with providing insight regarding the online users’ perceptions of TAM dimensions and how these dimensions are perceived among different demographic groups and Internet usage characteristics with latest figures in Hong Kong, a major tourism destination in Asia with many world-class hotels. Design/methodology/approach – A total of 213 Hong Kong online users were surveyed in March and April 2013 in Hong Kong business districts. Findings – Findings reveal that most respondents who use the Internet for booking online travel products are young, and people above a certain age are not likely to favor booking tourism products online. They are more likely to stick to traditional personal service. Perceived usefulness of the Internet is found more influential than its ease of use in forming a usage intention, and ease of use is perceived more important by jobseekers, student and employees than the other profession groups. In addition, respondents who use the Internet every day and did purchase online tourism product perceived usefulness more important than ease of use. Research limitations/implications – The generalization of this research is limited by its sample size and number of questions. Originality/value – The study gives a new perspective by linking TAM with intention to book online in Hong Kong. The paper would be of interest to the Web site planners or online tourism practitioners to consider Web site usefulness as much as its ease of its use, as both usefulness and ease of use of tourism Web sites are strong predictors of intention to book online.

Internet Of Things (IoT) is a continually growing area which aids us to unite diverse objects. The proposed system exhibits the universal notion of utilizing cloud-based intellectual automotive car parking facilities in smart cities as a notable implementation of the IoT. Such services demonstrate to be a noteworthy part of the IoT and thus serving users in no small amount due to its pure commerce positioned qualities. Electromagnetic fields are being used by RFID to detect and track tags ascribed to objects automatically. The RFID technology is used in this system along with suitable IoT protocols to evade human interference, which reduces the cost. Information is bartered using readers and tags. RFID and IoT technologies are mainly used to automate the guide systems and make them strong and more accurate. Open Service Gateways can be effectively used for this module. This system established on the consequence of IoT and the purposes are solving the chaos, bewilderment, and extensive backlogs in parking spaces like malls and business parks that are customary as a consequence of the increased use of automobiles. The proposed work aims to solve these problems and offer car drivers a hassle-free and instantaneous car parking experience. While a number of nodes are positioned depends on topographical restrictions, positioning of prominent anchor sensor nodes in the smart parking is a primary factor against which the efficiency and cost of the parking system hang. A Raspberry Pi would act as a mini-computer in our system. A suitable smallest path methodology would be cast-off to obtain the shortest distance between the user and every car park in the system. Hence, the pausing time of the user is decreased. This work furthermore includes the practice of remotely booking of a slot with the collaboration of android application exercising smartphones for the communication between the Smart Parking system and the user.

Abstract:
The Internet offers a rich atmosphere for prospective travelers to gain familiarity, and harvest and retrieve travel-related information and resources. An increasing number of tourism and hospitality firms have turned their attention to new business opportunities on the Web. Travel 2.0 has emerged as a new tool for competitive advantage. This study draws on social cognitive theory and the DeLone and McLean Information Systems (D&M IS) success model to diagnose the impact of websites design quality on booking/reservation intentions from a travelers’ perspective. This research model was tested with 700 valid data collected from travelers using Travel 2.0 websites through online survey using SPSS v18 for the analysis. The results of the data analysis provided support for the hypothesized relationships of e-service and system quality with booking/reservation/purchase behavioral intention implying that an e-travel site’s quality is an essential success factor for tourism enterprises. However, information quality of an e-travel site is negatively related to booking/reservation intention. Cross-sectional design and self-report measures are the shortcomings of the study. Little research has been done on the relation between websites design (e-service, information, and system) quality, and booking/reservation intention. This article presents new insights into how these variables may influence potential tourist.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate how hedonic and utilitarian choice options of online travel agencies (OTAs) affect consumers’ process enjoyment and booking intentions. Design/methodology/approach The authors apply a one-factorial experimental design. The stimuli consisted of screenshots of the fictitious OTA “www.my-holiday.com”. Participants were told to imagine they were planning a city trip to San Francisco and that, during an internet search, they came across a new OTA called “www.my-holiday.com”. Findings The authors find that both booking intentions and process enjoyment are higher for hedonic OTAs, i.e. OTAs which offer more hedonic choice options such as entertainment and spa. The authors conclude that these toolkits strongly relate to pleasurable experiences and positive emotions. Therefore, these options drive positive affective reactions in terms of process enjoyment, which subsequently affect booking intentions. Additionally, the authors find that preference insight positively affects consumers’ booking intention as the number of choices provided by the OTA increases. Originality/value This paper contributes to tourism research on online travel shopping behavior. The authors apply knowledge from research on online customization tools to an OTA context and show that hedonic and functional choice options of OTAs significantly reflect on consumer behavior.

Traditionally, general practitioners (GPs) would write a referral letter to a hospital consultant requesting an appointment. The choice of hospital and specific consultant was left to the expertise of the GP. This referral would be vetted by the consultant and prioritised into a routine or urgent appointment. However, in 2005 a new system, called 'Choose and Book', was introduced. Once the patient and GP had agreed that a hospital consultation was required, the GP completed a referral letter and provided the patient with a code to access a telephone or internet booking system. This allowed patients to choose both the hospital they would attend and the consultant by whom they would be seen. Booking rules were constructed to ensure that appropriate consultations were offered.

Abstract:
Information and communication technology (ICT) has the potential to improve the quality of care and efficiency in sexual health clinics, but its introduction requires input not only from health-care professionals and ICT specialists but also from service users and potential future users. In this study, views on ICT in relation to the delivery of sexual health services were assessed using a structured interview in two groups – a community sample of young people and a clinic sample of existing patients. In all, 542 community interviewees and 202 clinic patients participated. About 75% of respondents had access to the Internet and overall 60% reported that the self-collection of a sexual history on an electronic form was acceptable. Black Caribbean individuals had significantly less access to the Internet and a lower acceptance of electronic data collection. For booking an appointment, the majority of patients reported the telephone (community sample 93%, clinic sample 96%) or attending in person (community sample 77%, clinic sample 54%) to be acceptable, with a smaller proportion choosing email (community sample 10%, clinic sample 27%) or the Internet (community sample 7%, clinic sample 11%). Electronic booking was significantly less acceptable to Black Caribbean respondents. Although new technologies offer the opportunity to improve the quality of sexual health services, patient preferences and differences between groups in access to technology also need to be considered when services are reconfigured.

Abstract:
The advent of the Internet and the gradual digitization of select services mark the beginning of a new era in E-commerce and Online access to some facilities that minimize both time and human energy. For example, booking tickets for train travel, air travel, and even bus travel were brought to the fingertips of families which had to otherwise spend a lot of time in long queues before booking counters. Subsequently, other service providers also entered the field with more sophisticated services like booking accommodation, guided tours, and even packaged travel plans. Yatra.com, Make-my-trip, Goibibo, IRCTC, and Red bus are some of the best examples for pioneering efforts that made a considerable impact on services of this kind. In the meantime, the digital platform began to be exploited by new-players who entered the fray with products in almost all walks of life, such as clothing and fashion, beauty care, electronic goods, consumer durables, and even essentials of life such as groceries, fruits, and vegetables. The entry of big- players such as Flipkart and Amazon took online shopping to the next level.

Accommodation enterprises that have their own websites and use online booking systems receive new highly effective marketing channels to promote their services.

Abstract:
With more accessibility to the Internet and modernization of e-payment systems, the approach to address the travel requirements has dramatically changed over the years. The service offered by the Online Travel Agents (OTAs) has a huge impact on a very competitive online marketplace. The purpose of this research is to observe, examine, and analyze key factors which a consumers’ decision to use a particular travel agent website for e-hotel booking can be predicted. The data are compiled using IBM SPSS. The key methods are applied for data analysis in addition to other statistical methods including factor analysis and multinomial logistic regression analysis. The analysis of data reveals a positive association of website quality factors, product related factors, and consumer relationship factors with consumers’ decision to book from a certain travel agent website. Viewing the big picture, consumer relationship factors are found to be more influential as compared to website quality and product related factors. Moreover, the researchers reveal product price as the most influential variable, but it indicates no statistical significance with consumers’ decision. There are many different price products which are available across different travel agent websites. The convenience of payment method is found to be a significant attribute associated with the consumers’ decision to book from a travel website. In addition, attributes of travel products variety and online reviews provided by the travel websites are observed to be statistically significant. This research indicates the trends of consumer decision-making for e-hotel booking in Indonesia.

The internet and NHS Net are used increasingly in UK general practice. A questionnaire survey conducted in southern England examined these applications. 77 (55%) of 141 practices responded. Of these, 71 were connected to one or other service and 27 offered a practice website. Only a small minority used a website for direct patient booking or access to pathology results. Moreover, among those with a practice website, none paid the necessary attention to data security. The survey revealed some fundamental misunderstandings that may partly account for the slow uptake of these technologies in British general practice.

This article analyzes the consumer’s adoption of the Internet for information or shopping of tourist services. Based on the Surveys on Equipment and Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Households, by the National Statistics Institute of Spain, a micro-panel database (2008–2016) is constructed. Using this database and random effects logistic models, the impact of socioeconomic characteristics on the individual’s adoption of the Internet for tourism purposes is estimated. The results indicate that education, family size, digital skills, income, habitat, and employment situation are all significant for explaining the online booking of transportation or accommodation services; however, gender and age are not significant for the case of transportation. Differences between online buyers of tourism services and individuals who only look for information (bookers vs. lookers) are highlighted. Policy recommendations and business strategies are suggested, either to enhance e-Tourism or to increase the conversion rates of lookers into bookers.

Introduction. The Internet is becoming a part of everyday life; it is in this space that communication, purchases, and payment for various services are carried out. Young people are the most dynamic social group that has long mastered the Internet market with its advantages, namely, comparing prices, book products, and buy at discounts. Materials and methods. The quantitative data collection method is used for studying young people’s consumer strategies in the Internet market and understand the prevalence of online shopping practices. This task led to the application of the survey and the analysis of the data obtained. Comprehension of values and behavioral practices in consumer groups (generally active experts, partially active experts, passive experts) is based on a qualitative strategy in the form of semi-formalized interviews. Research results, their discussion. The factors of the popularity of the Internet market among students have been determined: activity on the Internet and social networks, attractive prices for goods, an expanded range of goods; it was found that such categories of goods as tickets, music, software, and food delivery are frequently purchased via the Internet; it was revealed that the frequency of online purchases varies from “once every six months” to “once every 1-3 months”, while a purchase does not always accompany a visit to an online store. The survey showed that the most preferable for young people are such services, Internet catalogs, the possibility of placing a preliminary order, booking goods with subsequent self-pickup. Conclusions. The study made it possible to establish a trend towards increasing online purchases among students in the Internet market as a consumer platform with new consumption practices.

Abstract:
Travel and tourism-related products and services are highly compatible with the internet with the result that travel and tourism is one of the highest revenue-generating sectors of the internet. The rapid growth of the internet is having an impact on the distribution of travel services and has heightened speculation about the potential for disintermediation of the travel agent. This research investigates the impact of the internet on the distribution of travel services and the extent to which it has influenced travel agencies by focusing on Taiwan, a technologically advanced country and one which has witnessed rapid growth of the internet. Employing a combination of a quantitative questionnaire administered to 438 travel agencies and personal in-depth interviews, the research found that travel agencies in Taiwan generally regard the internet as an effective tool for their business. Most agencies have adopted the internet in their daily operations and some have provided e-commerce services on the internet. Although travel agencies are affected by e-commerce services, the effect is not found to be significant. Equally, no significant difference was apparent between company size and classification in terms of the effect of ecommerce travel services on travel agents. Travel agencies agreed that commission cutting by suppliers was a threat but disagreed that disintermediation would occur, although booking offices were seen to be at risk. The research identified two principal future roles for travel agents: first, the need for them to reposition themselves as travel consultants and secondly, the need for them to become more technologically orientated. Finally, seven key strategies were suggested for Taiwan's travel agencies to ensure survival.

This paper presents the Smart Device specification to interface with remote labs. To encourage the broader sharing of remote labs, the Smart Device paradigm decouples the client from the server and provides well-defined interfaces between client and server. Such Smart Device services are exposed on the Internet and enable interoperability with client applications, other Smart Devices and external services (e.g. a booking service). This paper presents the extensible and platform-agnostic specification of the Smart Device services and internal functionalities. The Smart Device specification contains sufficient service metadata to enable the automatic generation of basic client applications. Recent studies have been focused on the concept of value creation in order to explain the benefits related to the e-business strategies. However, once the value is created, how the parties involved in the transaction protect this value? In addition, what is the moderation effect of the digitalization in the processes of value creation and value appropriation? I examine Booking, an Online Travel Agency (OTA) operating in the travel & tourism industry with the aim to investigate the impact of digitalization. The implications are drawn to enrich the theory of value creation and appropriation and to provide the managerial community with practical knowledge related to partnership strategies.
