Abstract:
Attitudes toward interfaith dating are a pertinent topic to investigate among groups characterized by endogamous marital patterns. In the present investigation, this topic is examined among Jewish adolescents living in minority and majority community contexts. This study offers an extension of previous research by drawing on theory from the social psychology of attitudes to explore the roles of various contextual and developmental variables in attitudes toward interfaith dating. Qualitative analysis was employed to identify attitudes and issues indicative of varying degrees of willingness to interfaith date. Quantitative analysis (using discriminant function analysis) was employed to explore the roles of various contextual and developmental variables in the attitudes and issues expressed. More restrictive attitudes toward interfaith dating were associated with majority adolescents, greater Orthodoxy, and more frequent religious participation.

Abstract:
By exploring narratives of Middle Eastern Christians (MECs) in Denmark I want to open an important, yet overlooked, window on invisible intra-ethnic relations in an immigrant context in Denmark. The subject of research is negotiations of boundary maintenance and strategies for recovering from boundary crossings in cases of interfaith intimacies between MEC women and Muslim men in Denmark. The research focuses on different contextual aspects of intimate boundary crossing and argues that already at the stage of dating, the relationship challenges boundaries and erodes families and communities. In order to explore some very diverse narratives, I ask: How do MECs in Denmark, who carry experiences of intra-ethnic interfaith intimacies with Muslims, negotiate boundary maintenance at the levels of the individual, the family and the MEC community?

Abstract:
Interfaith marriages, which are widely practiced in society, will, in the long term, have a social and psychological impact on children born to these couples. In contrast, in terms of legal aspects, they certainly have legal consequences for children born to couples of different religions. The purpose of this study was to determine the legal implications of interfaith marriages for children born according to Islamic law. Methods This study uses a normative juridical method by reviewing various literature relevant to the studied theme. Data was collected through a literature study to find secondary legal materials pertinent to the prescriptive descriptive approach. The study results indicate that the legal consequences of interfaith marriages are invalid marriages, and children born are not permitted according to Islamic law. According to Islamic law, Interfaith marriages have legal implications for children who are born; namely, children are considered as children born out of wedlock. Children born out of wedlock only have a kinship relationship with their mother and their mother's family.

Abstract:
This longitudinal study examined whether nonviolent aspects of interparental conflict, in addition to interparental violence, predicted dating violence perpetration and victimization among 150 Mexican American and European American male and female adolescents, ages 16 to 20. When parents had more frequent conflict, were more verbally aggressive during conflict, had poor conflict resolution, or were physically violent during conflict at baseline, adolescents were more involved in dating violence, both perpetration and victimization, at 1-year follow-up. Adolescents' appraisals of parental conflict and their emotional distress mediated the relationships between nonviolent parental conflict and dating violence. In contrast, interparental violence directly predicted involvement in dating violence. Results provide support for the importance of nonviolent parental conflict as an influence on adolescents' involvement in dating violence, over and above the influence of interparental violence. Cognitive and emotional processes may help explain the way in which nonviolent aspects of parental conflict influence adolescents' behavior in romantic relationships.

Abstract:
This article discusses different aspects of dialogue in the light of the Qur’ān and Sunnah. The Qur’ān calls for dialogue and the biography of the Prophet Muḥammad tells that he interacted with polytheists, hypocrites, and the people of the book. Therefore, dialogue with other religions is not just a forced choice imposed by geographical, social, or political realities; rather it is the best strategy that the Prophet employed during the Meccan and Medina phases of Islamic preaching. However, in the modern period, some people may accuse Islam of opposing interfaith dialogue. This study highlights that such accusations are baseless and that Islam teaches its followers to have dialogue with the adherents of other religions in the best possible way. Moreover, this study identifies the ways to promote and strengthen interfaith dialogue in the modern age.

Abstract:
In marriage, husband and wife together strive to realize the community of life and love in all its aspects and dimensions: personal-human and spiritualreligious dimensions. In order for such a fellowship to be attained more easily, the Church wants the people to choose a partner who is of the same faith, bearing in mind that faith has a very strong influence on the inner and outer unity of husband and wife, the education of children and the welfare of the family. Out of respect for other religions, recognition of the right of every person to marry (cf. Can. 219), and various social realities, it is possible in the Catholic Church to have mixed marriage (mixta religio) or interfaith marriage (disparitas cultus). After all, mixed marriages and interfaith marriages can be a problem that continues to arise, in the midst of a pluralistic society. A lot of young Catholics at some point in their lives have to face this problem and seek information and assistance to determine attitudes and make concrete choices that must be accounted for. Moreover, some mixed marriages and interfaith marriages ofen need assistance in the journey of their married life. Renewal of the Church's position and policy towards these problems is a Church concern that can provide relief to the people. However, with the existing policies and guidelines, personal problems are not automatically resolved. It is the duty of the pastors of souls to continue to develop the ministry of mixed marriage and interfaith marriage, so that Catholics counterparts in such marriages are still able to witness the power of God's word and assist their children to grow in the Catholic faith.

Abstract:
To date, the relationship between alcohol use and dating app use has been investigated mostly in conjunction with sexual activities and in homosexual men. For this reason, the aim of this study was to explore the association between dating app use and alcohol consumption among the general population. A cross-sectional study was conducted including app users, non-users, and former users: 1278 respondents completed an online ad hoc questionnaire assessing dating app use, motivations for installing dating apps, alcohol use, and demographics. Multiple logistic regression analysis was run to investigate the association between dating app use, demographic features, and alcohol consumption. Whereas educational level, age, and gender significantly contributed to the regular consumption of alcohol, dating app use did not account for a significant amount of variance between regular and not regular drinkers. However, people who installed and used dating apps with the motivation of searching for sexual partners were more likely to be regular drinkers. Among the active users, heavy app users were less likely to drink regularly. The study indicates that underlying factors (sexual aspects, motives for using the apps) and the intensity of using the apps may mediate the relationship between dating app use and alcohol use.

Abstract:
Maturity of religious understanding is a major effort to achieve religious harmony in Indonesia. Muslim Students Association (Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam)’s Core Values of Struggle is the starting point to develop, to disseminate and to implement the religious maturity. At least, there are three aspects of its core values that important to achieve religious harmony in Indonesia, namely: Monotheism, the humanitarian aspects and social aspects. These three aspects will bring interfaith relations more open, tolerant and harmonious. Religious people fully realize that all men are ungodliness in the same God, the Almighty God, all religious people are given the freedom to understand, to appreciate and to practice their religion in full conviction. Religious people also should to believe that all human beings are basically good so that they can view a positive and optimistic attitude to other religious believes, instead of being suspicious of one another. Furthermore, inter-religious relations need the real cooperation in everyday life. All religions need cooperation against common enemies, those are social injustice, poverty, ignorance, violations of human rights and the tyranny that alienates the awareness of God. All religions have a responsibility to the real work.

Online dating ads were examined from one site for adults of all ages ( match.com ) and a site specifically geared to older adults (ourtime.com). Results showed that aspects of self that are presented for men and women, although in different order of importance, included one’s status, enjoying leisure activities and being fun-loving, kind/compassionate, and being friend and family focused. Men and women were interested in a companion and someone fun-loving and kind/compassionate. Additionally, women sought a partner who was honest and would do leisure activities with them. Men sought women who were physically attractive and would provide emotional support. The discussion focuses on gender differences and how the act of self-presentation is central in the narratives of dating ads for older adults.

Abstract:
Previous research indicates that adults believe that sexual desire and sexual activity play different roles in love relationships. Little research, however, has been conducted to document the presumed differences between these two aspects of human sexual response. The purpose of this study was to examine empirically (1) whether sexual desire and sexual activity co-occur in dating relationships; (2) whether desire is more strongly associated than activity with passionate love; and (3) whether desire and activity have different implications for relationship maintenance. The results revealed that sexual desire and sexual activity were moderately (but not significantly) related. In addition, and as expected, only sexual desire was related to passionate love. Sexual desire also was related to relational maintenance; the greater the desire for the partner, the less often participants thought about ending their current relationship, thought about beginning a new relationship, reported being unfaithful to their partner, and felt attracted to others.

This classroom demonstration reveals how a certain disposition that students possess (self-monitoring orientation) is meaningfully related to a significant aspect of their lives (commitment in dating relationships). Specifically, this exercise demonstrates that individuals high in self-monitoring tend to adopt an uncommitted orientation to dating relationships, whereas those low in self-monitoring tend to adopt a committed one. The effectiveness of this demonstration and topics for further discussion are highlighted.

Abstract:
Da'wah is basically a social activity that allows people to meet with various social backgrounds in it. Because of its nature as a social activity, plurality becomes a necessity in da'wah. Nevertheless, pluralism as a reality sometimes becomes a problem in society. This article aims to describe the problem between da'wah and pluralism with the subject of the meaning of pluralism, its reality in the history of Islamic da'wah, and the attitude that must be developed in responding to it. The study showed that pluralism is generally interpreted as diversity in various aspects of life, including religion, which is believed to originate from one source even though this causes controversy. Historically Islam recognized the reality of religious pluralism. This fact shows that in Islam differences of belief are not obstacles to managing social life together as a form of acceptance of religious pluralism. Some attitudes that must be developed to be able to accept the reality of religious pluralism in daily life include interfaith dialogue, conducting "passing over" and "coming back" activities, or making efforts to increase multiculturalism insight to all elements of society. All of this can be done through the Islamic da’wah, with its various approaches, has become a massive Islamic religious social movement and is able to reach all aspects of Islamic society life.

AbstractThe nature of what has been termed "tolerance" and "intolerance" in the historiography of medieval Iberia has, while rarely defined, continued to provide much-employed organizing categories for the field. This paper reviews one focus of that historiography from the nineteenth into the twenty-first century: the relations among Muslims, Jews, and Christians, with respect to tolerance/intolerance and related categories (notably, convivencia). It analyzes, among other factors, the impact on this historiography of the intellectual, cultural, and political movements which have affected historians of medieval Iberia. It makes a case for the importance for specialists in the field to be keenly aware of these aspects of historiography at a time when medieval Spain is seen as offering a unique opportunity for testing theories of interfaith relations and social interaction

Some theoreticians support notions of the Internet as a media that makes the social differences of those who use it irrelevant or at least less important. The Internet is also often regarded as a medium that improves the free expression of thoughts and wishes of marginalised groups that cannot express themselves in face-to-face relationships due to several normative obstacles. The article deals with the question of gendered normativity related to expressions of femininity in the case of building of intimate romantic partnership within Internet dating. It is based on data gathered by qualitative research. 66 in-depth semi-structured interviews with 34 men and 32 women with Internet dating experiences were conducted in Slovenia in order to get insight into several sociological aspects of internet dating, among which question of gendered expectations related to partnership and family building will be discussed in article. Results show traditional expectations of gender roles are more pervasive as could be expected. Traditional normative understandings of gender were identified especially in the field of expectations related to women and womanhood and were revealed in men?s hierarchical positioning of women regarding their status, in women?s endeavours to present themselves as respectable and in men?s disapproval of women?s sexualities.

Abstract:
Data from a longitudinal sample of dating couples (some of whom married) were analyzed to test the aspect of Waller’s (1938) principle of least interest that states that unequal emotional involvement between romantic partners has implications for relationship quality and stability. Both members of the couples were asked multiple times over several years which partner, if either, was more emotionally involved. Perceptions of unequal emotional involvement were common and tended to remain stable over time. Less emotionally involved partners perceived themselves as having more control over the continuation of their relationships. Equal emotional involvement was associated with greater relationship satisfaction and stability. Concurrent and retrospective perceptions of relative emotional involvement were associated with several aspects of relationship breakup within the subsample of those who broke up during the study. Perceptions of emotional involvement have many implications for dating couples, including being linked to relationship satisfaction and other outcomes.

Background: Premarital sex is a reproductive health problem that has a potential risk in adolescence. Sexual behavior in adolescents is influenced by various aspects, including peers, school environment, society, and socio-cultural aspects. Peers have an important role in social life and adolescent development. Friends who behave negatively are likely to have a negative influence on adolescents. This study aims to determine premarital sex behavior associated with the role of peers and adolescent dating style based on data analysis of the 2017 IDHS.Method: The population and sample are adolescents aged 14-24 years male and not married or living together. The dependent variable is young men who have had premarital sex and the independent variables are dating status, peer influence, and dating style. The design of this study is cross-sectional with logistic regression analysis model to see how much influence the dependent variable has on the independent variable. Results: The results showed an increased risk of premarital sex, including dating status (OR = 0.56; 95% CI 0.48-0.66; p = 0.000), friend motivation (OR = 2.92; 95% CI 2.48-3.43; p = 0.000), influence friends (OR = 1.44; 95% CI 1.12-1.85; p = 0.004), hand grip (OR = 0.45; 95% CI 0.22-0.93: p = 0.032), hugging (OR = 1.87; 95% CI 1.04-3.36: p = 0.035), kissing lips (OR = 3.54; 95% CI 2.41-5.20: p = 0.000), touching sensitive parts (OR = 21.90; 95% CI 16.42-29.20; p = 0.000). Peer motivation and peer influence of dating style such as kissing the lips and touching sensitive parts increase the risk of premarital sex.

The main problem of former industrial areas with history of mining exploitation is the impact of specific activities both on the environment as well as on the social and economic life of the population. In this context, we talk about the Jiu Valley, a mono-industrial area where significant environmental degradation is observed and which did not benefit from economic diversity policies. The aim of this paper is to identify possibilities for the rehabilitation of the Petrila mining perimeter and its potential use in a touristic circuit that adds value to constructions declared historical monuments, dating back to 1850, such as the central shaft and the skip, the old compressors, treatment and the mechanical workshop.

Little is known about the role of surgery in pre-modern medical practice in general, and in the lands under Muslim dominance in particular. There is an acknowledged gap between theoretical knowledge and medical practice, but evidence of the latter is difficult to find. Many fundamental questions therefore remain unanswered. For example, was there a division of labour between surgeons and physicians? We are also mostly ignorant about who practiced surgery, the legal context surrounding this practice, and its financial aspects. This article offers an analytical edition of two documents from the Syrian town Hamah dating from 1212/1798, which can help answer some of these questions. They concern a respected and learned physician who also personally performed the removal of bladder stones and was paid well for his services.

Abstract:
Various aspects of social learning and self-control theories have been applied to partner violence among multiple samples in the United States, but these theoretical approaches have been less commonly studied cross-culturally. Consequently, childhood maltreatment and low self-control have been identified as risk factors for various outcomes in primarily American samples. This study examined the relationships between childhood maltreatment, low self-control, and dating violence among college students in South Korea and the United States. Findings indicated that experiencing childhood maltreatment and having low self-control were key predictors of perpetration and victimization for both psychological and physical relationship violence. Witnessing interparental violence during childhood was less consistently predictive of one’s involvement in a violent dating relationship. Implications for theory and policy are discussed.

Abstract:
Social media and Facebook in particular have become an important arena of social interaction and premarital romance in Egypt. In a society where dating can potentially harm the reputation of young women, a decent public image is considered valuable symbolic capital. This is especially true for brides-to-be. Many university-educated young women have found Facebook useful for impression management. It is necessary for them to mask aspects of their behavior that may be condemned as morally inappropriate and they have thus developed strategies for navigating through certain moral expectations about female sexual purity, virginity and modesty. I define the young women who edit their profiles in order to conform to the prevailing norms of decency, in Goffman’s terms, as ‘cynical performers’. As I show, the embellishment of the self is a pragmatic solution to the problem of coping with existing dating practices and conflicting norms of proper gender interaction, often understood as ‘Islamic’.

Abstract:
Due to multiple sexual partners and low rates of condom use, the HIV infection rate among MSM (men who have sex with men) is much higher than that of the general population. In order to analyze the characteristics of online activities of MSM, and to understand the evolution of their social networks, in this study we collect a comprehensive dataset, covering the period from January 2005 to June 2018, from the largest Chinese online community, Baidu Tieba. We build an online dating network for MSM-related individuals in the gay-bar community, and analyze the network from static and dynamic aspects. It is found that there is a strong homophily regarding the cities where users reside when developing interactions with others, and that most network measurements tend to be stable at the later stages of evolution, while the size of the largest community fluctuates. This is an indication that the network is formed of rapidly flexible interactions which changes quickly. In comparison with studies on heterosexual networks, we find that the MSM dating network shows differences in many aspects, such as the positive degree-degree correlation and high clustering coefficient, suggesting different thinking and measures should be taken in the policy making of public health management towards the MSM population.

Abstract:
Environmental issues are given prominence in the media and scientific circles. From the 60’s until early 2010 there were changes in the way people related to the environment, with a paradigm shift occurring regarding the environment. This study sought to identify the representational content disseminated by the press media on the environment in different periods. A qualitative survey was therefore conducted of documents, and data were obtained through texts published in a magazine with national circulation. The data were analyzed using the ALCESTE program with a Lexicographic Analysis. It was identified that the press media reflects the paradigm shifts, and publications dating from the late 60’s are compatible with the old paradigm, evolving over time, and are now compatible with the new environmental paradigm. The results indicate that currently the environment needs care in all its aspects and lack of care creates global impacts.

This study is about the physical and spiritual aspects of running. In addition to the human physical activity of running, there is a special reference to God-consciousness. Although the paper reflects an African, Christian, psychological bias, from an interfaith perspective, it concerns a simple, natural, human activity, within a broader energetic field of consciousness, which is usually and simply referred to as Love. The deliberate choice of the broad generic terms, God, or Godhead, is intended to include such terms as Allah, Brahman, Tao, Spirit, Divine, etc. While the terms “self” and “soul” may be used in different ways by various wisdom, spiritual and religious traditions, here they essentially refer to the interior, social and spiritual dimensions of human relationships. The study adopts a phenomenological, psychological, and biographical methodology with special reference to the spirituality of running as experienced by participants and reported by the heroic figures of Allyson Felix, Eliud Kipchoge, and Teilhard de Chardin, respectively. Its humble intention is to inspire all concerning the benefits of physical activity in general and running in particular, for physical, mental, social, and spiritual health promotion.

Abstract:
In this study we examined the negotiation of romantic relationships by urban youth, as discussed in focus groups, in a multicultural community. We compared these urban-student findings for an emergent fit with previously reported findings from more homogeneous groups of rural students. The unifying category, wrestling with gender expectations, which was identified in the rural studies, also emerged in the present study. A new unifying category represented urban participants’ balancing cultural expectations in the contexts of their families and social groups. Three categories from the former rural studies emerged in the present urban study: making sacrifices, showing respect, and standing up for oneself; and a new category emerged: communicating. While the rural students identified media as critical contextual conditions for romantic relationships, the current urban teens identified digital and social media as crucial contextual conditions in dating relationships. Together, these findings suggest the importance of considering cultural and contextual aspects of youths’ dating processes for developing a grounded theory that reflects aspects of teens’ relational lives. Implications of this emergent theory are explored, and directions for future research are suggested.

Abstract:
The article is focused on the evolution of Soviet Indian studies in the course of the 1970s and 1980s, i.e. the period of the discipline’s indisputable academic upsurge. The present author maintains that factors instrumental of Indian studies’ ascendant development were many; among the latter foreign policy imperatives as well as high quality intellectual talent available are distinguished to explain the advancement of this area of social science research to the status of socially significant professional activities. Socio-economic, history and political studies are taken to demonstrate the academic accomplishments of Soviet scholars who exploited their own “wisdom” to comprehend India’s complex social reality and, also, utilized critical assessment of the existent social science research paradigms circulating in Indian scholarship. The “crisis” of Indian studies dating back to the late 1980s is discussed in basic aspects. The social and political origins of the “crisis” are being highlighted. The evolution of Soviet Indian studies during the late 1980s is investigated at the backdrop of sociopolitical development in the years preceding the USSR’s dismemberment. Tentative factors instrumental of the eventual “comeback” of Indian studies as an academic discipline of high societal stature are estimated.

Abstract:
Aim/Purpose: This study was undertaken to shed light on how the use of a heteronormative mobile dating application creates an environment to promote psychological empowerment among female users within the online dating scene. The study focused on a mobile dating application which specifically challenges traditional gender roles, namely Bumble. Background: Mobile dating applications have become an increasingly popular medium for people to meet potential partners. However, users’ pre-existing social norms and biases inform how they communicate on these platforms, and stereotyped judgment about women perpetuates ideologies which continue to oppress them within the cyber world. Despite this, very little research has investigated the experiences of female users of mobile dating applications. Methodology: The study was qualitative in nature, and 10 semi-structured interviews of female Bumble users were conducted. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. Contribution: The study contributes to knowledge by highlighting how key features of mobile dating applications influence various aspects of psychological empowerment as articulated in the findings. Findings: The findings show that the Bumble application supports Intrapersonal variables of Psychological Empowerment of female users relative to Domain Specific Perceived Control and Self-Efficacy, Motivation to Control and Perceived Competence. However, Domain Specific Perceived Control can also be negatively impacted due to self-doubt when female users receive little to no matches. Interactional variables of psychological empowerment are also supported, as Bumble allows female users to be critically aware of the need to screen potential partners, understand relevant causal agents, develop skills relative to initiating conversations and mobilize resources. However, Bumble is not effective in supporting behavioral variables of psychological empowerment because of limitations in the tool’s functionality and the behavior of the people interacting on the platform. Recommendations for Practitioners: The findings are important as they suggest the need to enhance the features available to female users in order to better suit their needs and desire to take control of their lives in the context of dating and/or friendship. Recommendation for Researchers: The findings reveal the need for a change of perceptions and attitudes on the part of some users to create a safer and more considerate virtual dating space, to truly achieve psychological empowerment. Future Research: More research is required on how male and female users domesticate mobile dating applications and how the use of these applications influence their daily lives from a socio-cultural point of view.

Abstract:
The study is aimed at considering theoretical and empirical issues of intercultural communication in Eastern Siberia at the end of the 20–21 centuries in ethno-confessional and geopolitical aspects. To achieve this research task the author has considered theoreticalmethodological and structural-functional aspects of intercultural communication in the ethnoconfessional space of the East-Siberian region. The methodological correlation of the processes of intercultural communication and integration intentions of state policy in the ideological sphere of public relations has been analyzed. Their targets in macro-social communication processes are socio-political stability and minimization of deviations based on ethnic and confessional affiliation through the implementation of organizational and legal forms of state functions. The conclusions have been made about actualization and basic nature of the anthropocultural approach, when considering the functional relationship of state power and state policy in the field of religious space. On the basis of the missionary intentions of the Roman Catholic and Russian Orthodox Churches, the object-subject and subjective parameters of the structure of legal communication have been determined, taking into account the geopolitical characteristics of state control over the unity of the sociocultural space. Interfaith communication problems between the Russian Orthodox Church and Roman Catholicism in Russia have worsened due to the proselytizing activities of the Roman Catholic Church in the East Siberian and Far Eastern regions and the lack of an elaborate regulatory framework enabling the government to control ideological space

Abstract:
Changing perspectives on concepts of personhood are explored by deconstructing mortuary customs from 10 Tucson Basin (Arizona) Hohokam archaeological sites dating from the Preclassic (A.D. 700–1150) and Classic (A.D. 1150–145011500) periods. Results indicate that certain aspects of personhood did not change across time and space at these sites. However, by analyzing changes through time in cremation rituals, it was possible to infer that some aspects of personhood did change. In the Preclassic period, after bodies were burned, the remains were distributed as inalienable possessions within social networks. This behavior suggests a relational social construction of self where burning transformed the deceased and the remains were considered part-person and part-object. Later in the Classic period, a higher frequency of cremated remains were not divided but instead transferred as a unit to secondary deposits. Perceptions of personhood during this period appear to have defined self as a complete, bounded unit, even after transformation by fire. This change possibly occurred as a result of a general decrease in remembrance networks. These changes in cremation parallel broader sociopolitical changes where increases in social differentiation and complexity are proposed for the Classic period Hohokam.

Abstract:
Abstract. Droughts are multidimensional hazards that can lead to substantial environmental and societal impacts. To understand causes and impacts, multiple perspectives need to be considered. Many studies have identified past drought events and investigated drought propagation from meteorological droughts via soil moisture to hydrological droughts, and some studies have included the impacts of these different types of drought. However, it is not certain whether the increased frequency and severity of drought events in the past decade is unprecedented in recent history. Therefore, we analyze different droughts and their impacts in a regional context using a multidisciplinary approach. We compile a comprehensive and long-term dataset to investigate possible temporal patterns in drought occurrence and place recent drought events into a historical context. We assembled a dataset of drought indices and recorded impacts over the last 218 years in southwestern Germany. Meteorological and river-flow indices were used to assess the natural drought dynamics. In addition, tree-ring data and recorded impacts were utilized to investigate drought events from an ecological and social perspective. Since 1801, 20 extreme droughts have been identified as common extreme events when applying the different indices. All events were associated with societal impacts. Our multi-dataset approach provides insights into similarities but also the unique aspects of different drought indices.

Abstract:
Symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are some of the most common mental health symptoms women experience following exposure to dating violence (DV). However, not all women who experience DV exhibit PTSD symptoms. One factor that may influence whether or not women exhibit PTSD symptoms in the aftermath of DV exposure is interpersonal style, often operationalized in terms of two orthogonal dimensions, warmth and dominance. In this study, we examined the main and moderating effects of warmth and dominance on the association between DV and PTSD symptoms using latent moderating structural equation modeling in a sample of 303 female college students who reported DV exposure in the past year. Results indicated that warmth exerted a main effect predicting fewer PTSD symptoms. In addition, dominance moderated the association between DV and PTSD symptoms such that at high levels of DV, women who were high on dominance reported fewer PTSD symptoms than did women who were low on dominance. These findings suggest that aspects of interpersonal style may promote resilience to symptoms of posttraumatic stress following DV exposure. Directions for future research are also discussed.

Abstract:
This article critically examines four theoretical approaches identified by Strube (1988) as relevant to abused women's stay/leave decision-making processes. It is argued that these four approaches have overlapping components that may be combined into a single framework for understanding abused women's stay/leave decisions. The essential aspects of abused women's stay/leave decisions appear to revolve around two central questions: “Will I be better off?” and “Can I do it?” This model proposes that abused women's stay/leave decisions occur in a stepwise fashion. A woman may wish to leave her relationship but be inhibited from doing so because she does not feel she has control over her circumstances. Conversely, a woman may have the necessary resources for leaving but may wish to remain in the relationship. Empirical work in the fields of marital and dating violence is reviewed and provides preliminary support for the components of this two-step model of abused women's stay/leave decisions.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTAlthough mobility in and out of intimate relationships has become more common in later life, it has been a neglected issue in social gerontology. In this article, we ask what characterises the formation of new intimate relationships in later life, and whether there are any specific conditions that separate these from relationships in earlier stages of the lifecourse. On the basis of qualitative interviews with 28 persons aged 63–91 who have established a new intimate heterosexual relationship after the age of 60 or who are dating singles, we argue that time constitutes such a central structuring condition. We discuss and theorise two aspects of time – post-(re)productive free time and remaining time – which have an important formative power on new late-in-life relationships. We argue that together these aspects form a central existential structure of ageing in many Western societies – the paradoxical condition of having lots of available free time but little time left in life – which, besides influencing new late-in-life relationships, might also be relevant to other aspects of and choices in later life.
