Full textOne of the most significant characteristics of the seventeenth century French Memoirs is their proximity to the historiographical practice. Rather than being accounts of the author’s inwardness, or stories about the evolution of their personality and private life, Memoirs are narratives whose main focus is witnessing historical events. These texts showcase author’s public life, career and participation in political events. However, it is not rare for these authors to personally witness bloodshed, the horrors of war, rejection, exile, injustice or grief, and remembering those experiences does not seem to leave them indifferent. Is it possible for these historical narratives to express emotional distress, pain and trauma, given that the personal discourse in Memoirs is often subjected to layers of censorship? This dissertation examines the expression of affectivity in the specific context of seventeenth-century memorial tradition in which the emotional discourse is subdued by two main types of control and regulation. On the one hand, editors profoundly modify original texts so that they seem less personal and, hence, less partial, subsequently increasing their status as credible historical sources. On the other hand, the practice of Memoir writing is taking place in a social and cultural context which is hostile to the uninhibited emotional discourse and self-expression.The expression of emotional distress is a result of a continuous dialogue between silence and the written word, between what can and cannot be expressed, between what is appropriate to say and what is appropriate to stay silent about. We studied discourses and narrative practices which allow authors to witness about their emotional distress and to express, voluntarily or involuntarily, what they feel. We insisted on the discourses which elude both social control and editorial interventions; in other words, parts of the Memoirs where affectivity is expressed despite all odds
Garrido, Sardà Maria Rosa. "Emmaus as a transnational imagined community language, interdiscursivity and stratification in a social movement." Doctoral thesis, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/285359.
Full textThis thesis is a critical sociolinguistic ethnography of a transnational social movement. It investigates the situated discursive and linguistic construction of a common identity as well as social difference within the Emmaus movement from the viewpoint of two communities of practice. Emmaus is a post-war transnational movement of solidarity founded by the Abbé Pierre that (re)inserts formerly marginalised people who live and work with other privileged people in live-in “communities” dedicated to recycling and social projects. My multi-sited ethnography mainly explores two Emmaus communities, one located in the Barcelona metropolitan area and another one in Greater London. This study contributes to the fields of the sociolinguistics of globalisation (Blommaert, 2010) and linguistic anthropology from a critical ethnographic perspective (Heller, 2011). The methodological design combines traditional ethnography, retaining participant-observation as the core, with narrative inquiry emerging from observed interactions and discursive genealogy of the two focal sites. The analysis draws on fieldnotes, interview data, assembly recordings, institutional texts and audiovisual materials. Departing from the concept of a transnational imagined community (Anderson, 1983), this thesis explores sociolinguistic processes beyond, in tension and within different nation-states. In particular, it investigates (a) the transnational articulation of the Emmaus movement through narrative, semiotic, discursive and communicative resources, (b) the localisation of common texts, symbols and narratives in different discursive and socioeconomic regimes, and (c) the situated practices of socialisation through and into language resulting in social stratification. My first finding is that the two Emmaus communities investigated were articulated through the movement’s founding story (Linde, 2009). This common story shaped not only the stories told, with recognisable intertextual and chronotopic elements (Bakhtin, 1981), but also the members’ dispositions to reenact this narrative in the local communities daily (Agha, 2007). The two communities shared the person-types marked by self-transformation, the moral worth of solidarity, and finding “reasons to live” in the encounter with others. These chronotopic elements had different weight in local constructions of the movement. When the shared Emmaus founding story gets transposed across time and space, it is recontextualised, recycled and clasped (Gal, 2007) with other situated discourses in local communities in different nation-states. My second finding is that Emmaus allows for a wide range of discursive practices (Foucault, 1972) in multiple communities of practice. Emmaus Barcelona centered on the encounter with others in the community epitomised by the Abbé Pierre icon, clasped with politicised altermondialiste and Liberationist Christian discourses. Emmaus London, by contrast, emphasised the value of solidarity with others in connection to individualist work ethics, which promoted voluntary work in top-down charities in the British state. The two Emmaus communities (re)produced centrifugal and centripetal discursive trends within Emmaus (Brodiez-Dolino, 2008) that have localised the shared transnational mission of solidarity differently for decades. My third main finding is a denaturalisation of the commonsensical connection between transnational social movements and multilingualism, on the one hand, and horizontal participation, on the other. Socialisation into the Emmaus movement in communities of practice (Wenger, 1998) encompassed shared discourses and narratives to craft legitimate communicative identities that stratified members. In addition, modernist language ideologies positioned English in London, and Catalan and Spanish in Barcelona, as requisites for full participation in local communities. In contrast with the nationalist erasure of multilingualism in Emmaus London, Emmaus Barcelona accepted Catalan-Spanish hybrid practices in daily interactions and the use of Spanish, French and, to a lesser extent, English as linguae francae. In conclusion, the everyday fabric of social movements is intertextuality between local appropriations that have different discursive clasps with other social arenas and linguistic practices, which simultaneously creates grassroots heterogeneity and a common transnational belonging within a stratified community of practice.

Full textAt first hand, this thesis aims at observing the identitary construction of landowning multiracial women in Jean Rhyss Wide Sargasso Sea (1966), Janice Windles True Women (1993) and Bernardo Guimarãess Rosaura: a enjeitada (1883), considering three distinct aspects: the emphasis on Multiculturalism in novels concerning interracialization in the 19th century; the protagonists attempt to pass as Caucasians before local elites and their repressed identification with the culture from lower classes. In this realm, I highlight interceptive and disjointing points between Bernardo Guimarães and the other authors, once the former discusses identity as a hereditary and national factor, and the latter ones interpret it as a free-willing and cultural construct. On the whole, this research shows how these three authors resist an 18th and 19th-century scientific discursive formation which envisaged the mestizo as a degenerated creature, with metabolic and ontological unbalance, and how they strive to advocate the image of the miscegenated on the world very idiosyncratically. Considering that Wide Sargasso Sea and True Women are rereadings of 19th century novels, the thesis also encompasses intertextuality in two different manners: on the one hand, it focuses on the intrinsic relations between the hypertext and the hypotext; on the other hand, it points out the likely relation between Guimarães and the authors Rhys and Windle revisit

Full textThe discourses circulating in the different arenas of the public space – either physical or digital – are the result of the speaker’s partial perception of reality. The speaker can only grasp it and put it into discourse from her/his own perspective, by resorting to a variety of linguistic and, more broadly, semiotic resources. The discursive positioning of the speaker is thus a complex and heterogeneous phenomenon, which requires a socio-discursive approach to relate its linguistic manifestation to the extralinguistic factors influencing it. This research is rooted in a phenomenological vision of language, which highlights the (inter)subjective relation to reality established by language. Within the framework of French discourse analysis, this dissertation aims to describe the variability of the discursive characteristics as well as the socio-pragmatic implications of dominant discursive positionings across various discursive contexts and genres, which contribute to the French public debate. By following the fundamental principles of corpus linguistics and of French discourse analysis, the study is based on the analysis of a corpus constituted according to a thematic unity. The corpus represents a sample of the discourses produced in the public debate on end-of-life issues and belonging to three different discursive spaces: the parliamentary debate, the online press and Twitter. A tool-based approach is adopted with the purpose of articulating quantified and contextualized analyses. The textometric exploration of the corpus aims at objectifying the access to the data, favouring the efficient extraction of morphosyntactic, enunciative and semantic information. These results are then interpreted in the light of the cotext and of the (inter)discursive context, through a constant return to the data in their original environment, in order to grasp their discursive specificities, their meaning constructions as well as their pragmatic implications.
Snayer, Leylanie. "Remediation and intertextuality in Garner's 'politically correct' representation of Cinderella." University of the Western Cape, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/11394/6257.
Full textFairy tales have been changing continuously. From the likes of the Greek and Chinese versions of the Cinderella tale, Cinderella has been transformed into other versions. Charles Perrault and The Brothers Grimm had their way with the story of Cinderella with both parties putting their own mark on the tale. Disney made the story notorious as the consumers mostly tend to remember Disney's version and not earlier writers of the story (Zipes, 1999). Since then, various other versions in the current sphere of story-telling, especially through movie-making, have had a series of re-telling of the story. James Finn Garner's "Politically Correct Bedtime Stories" has made its mark in the world of politically correct, versions of fairy tales. He has graced readers with his satire and thereby challenged the more traditional versions of the story of Cinderella (and others) by posing a dry, humorous twist and facing the 'issues' which underlie the social problems in Cinderella such as equality, sexism and patriarchal, inappropriate gender biased terminology. Garner takes it upon himself to remediate the story of Cinderella through transformations of events and socially structured power relations, reworking the plot and characters and reformulation of gender-biased terminology. This results in a witty politically correct remodelling of the story which upholds a general moral in line with the contemporary socio-political ethos, championing usage of politically correct language.
Mapangou, Dacharly. Thesis, Paris Est, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012PEST0014/document.
Full textThis study answers the following title: Romantic fiction of postmodernity and its mazes. The example of the texts of Alain Robbe-Grillet (France, 1922-2008), of Juan José Saer (Argentina, 1937-2005) and of Boubacar Boris Diop (Senegal, 1947-). It intends to identify, under authority methodological of poetic text the various modalities by which the pattern of the labyrinth becomes established as privileged substrate of the poetic narrative in three writers belonging to different linguistic and cultural areas. The choice and examination of the texts of these three writers rest on the will to show the deployment of this pattern in the internal organization of the postmodern romantic fiction. Indeed, integrated in the internal dynamic of writing in a very diversified way, the pattern of the maze appears in all the problems which cross the romantic writing. For methodological convenience and scientific rigour, this study deploys according to three complementary axes. While the first is entitled "The labyrinth as obsessive invariant of the romantic fiction of postmodernity" sets out to bring out the different aspects in which this pattern unfolds in dynamic textual postmodern fictional narrative, the second which is entitled "The labyrinth as constitutive modality of the narrativity of the story : romantic fiction of postmodernity to the test of discontinuity", gets down to examine how this pattern is part of a writing project that claims the discontinuity principle as narrative, and the third which is entitled "The labyrinth as a characteristic modality of interdiscursivity and intergenericity textual dynamic : romantic fiction of postmodernity to the test of polyphony" undertakes to show how this pattern is constitutive of polyphony which governs the dynamic of textual postmodern fictional narrative
Galdino, Marcelino Donizeti de Oliveira. "Relações dialógicas entre o texto verbal e a obra pictórica." Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, 2009. http://tede.mackenzie.br/jspui/handle/tede/2295.
Full textThe purpose of this paper is to analyze and relate verbal and nonverbal texts with each other. We observe the resources that stimulate readings, and also the constitutive elements of meaning found in the elaboration of the short stories: "Leite empedrado", by Fabrício Carpinejar, and "Apenas eco", by Flávio Izhaki, both published in the book Contos sobre tela, by Marcelo Moutinho. We also study the paintings "As gêmeas", by Alberto da Veiga Guignard, and "Moças", by Di Cavalcanti, that are included in the book abovementioned as reference of intertextuality and interdiscursivity. Therefore, we examine the intentions, assumptions and implicit elements registered in the discourses of verbal and visual texts, based on the theoretical aspects of the philosophy of language studied by Bakhtin and the French semiotics of Greimas. In the analysis of the texts, we intend to discuss the question related to the materiality of the language used in the short stories, as well as the effects of meaning that this textual choice produces from a new field of description and analysis of the nonverbal. At first, we do not assume the transfer of the nonverbal to the verbal, but we present an instrument to interpret the images. With this study, we aim to find a way to analyze, elaborate meanings and show the relations in the reading of the verbal sign and also of the pictorial text.
Universidade Federal do CearÃ, 2014. http://www.teses.ufc.br/tde_busca/arquivo.php?codArquivo=11914.
This thesis " intersemiotic Practice in Speech - Cancional imagery of Adriana Calcanhotto: a proposed analysis " studies and sets the image- cancional discourse as a discursive practice that mobilizes through discursive procedures , languages of different modalities (both verbal nature as nonverbal) to, in intersemiotic process compatibilizarem with the literomusical production and , from that , they encourage the construction of meaning. The theoretical foundation on which fincamos this concept comes from the analysis of French Discourse, considering especially the reflections of Maingueneau (1999), Costa (2012), among others. Based on this, the guiding research question: What proposal for theoretical and methodological approach to an analysis of image- cancional speech can be compiled from the discursive categories? The operationalization of this issue and the goal was through the exploratory methodology, in which, from a specific corpus - the literomusical production of Adriana Calcanhotto between 1990 and 2000, whose limits given in chronological order, in order to realize as their productions are organized according to the opening and closure of the decade; from the appropriation of discursive and visual cancionais , categories prepared a guide that offers a path that makes possible the construction of meanings of the text . In light of this methodology , we proceed to the performance analysis of the data which allowed us to conclude that the nature of the image- interdiscursive cancional speech provides such meanings that are only possible due to the phenomenon of intersemioticidade that is established and that. This conclusion allows us to state that, because of this, there is a verb that promote visual literacy; such discursive constructions require the reader learning about the way of reading certain discursive productions.

Full textBased on theoretical assumptions of Textual Linguistics and Discourse Analysis, this dissertation intends to demonstrate that intertextuality and interdiscursivity are fundamental linguistic-discursive elements operating in the political cartoon genre in the construction of meaning, functioning as important argumentative resources. Therefore, there is need to retrieve the context of production of the analyzed cartoons, establish the close relationship between the verbal and the nonverbal to build the meaning of this genre and recognize the ironic speech as a productive way the intertextuality and the interdiscursivity are marked in the genre studied, showing the argumentative role of these dialogic mechanisms. The study is developed through bibliographic search and analysis of 20 political cartoons by Angeli and Glauco related to the first term of the Lula government. The choice is justified because it was a very great political effervescense period, favoring the production of very expressive cartoons
Full textIt is intended, in this work, to investigate the role that the biblical writings play both in the constructions and in the support of the main emphasis of Machado de Assiss work. Two principles constitute the theoretical guide of this investigation. The first is Bakhtins notion of polyphony and its unfoldings, constant in the terms intertextuality and interdiscursivity. The notion of semiotics contract (Fiorin, 2003) is the second. Other auxiliary concepts will be punctually used, such as the Menippuss satire, which will have grounds in authors like Griffin (2005), Sá Rego (1989) and Óliver (2008). Machados youth was characterized by a liberal activity of reasonable capacity. Charles Ribeiyrolles and Renan were decisive influences for the consolidation of these convictions. This tendency highlights the presence of the Bible, evoked as the source of principles that he defended. The prodigious work of fiction, since its first manifestations, bears witness to his great fascination towards the Scriptures, in several ways; one of them was the recapture of biblical myths, which acts as a link for the closeness between the native events and the plain day-to-day occurrences in which the resignificance of the mythical narratives take place. This look towards the past, guided by the Bible, suits well with the machadian emphasis in the eternal monotony of the human drama. Sapiential themes appear invariably diluted in the machadian writings. Wisdom has its place of prominence, with Ecclesiastes and Job. Also the biblical writings are applied to the reinterpretation of dear subjects to the human beings. This is done with the freedom of one who has a great fictional tact. Machado plays with words and expressions. He twists, contorts and distorts linguistics sequences and narratives, giving them a different brightness thus projecting new and relevant meanings. Machado, besides biblical themes, makes use of characters and several events, in a free way, to resignify them, almost always in dissonance with the religious and theological tradition. The bakhtinian theoretical support and the notion of semiotic contract fits with the analysis of this fruitful dialogue with the biblical sources, under the esthetical motivation of the crisis of the representation which is present in the machadian writings.
Ito, Márcia Camargo. "O Alienista : eco de vozes sociais." Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, 2006. http://tede.mackenzie.br/jspui/handle/tede/2280.
Full textBased on the Line of Research, discursive process and textual production , the present work focuses on the relation between the ethos and the discourse. The ethos is revealed through the discourse, in the same way, the discourse is supported by a body and a voice . We followed the Discourse Analysis of French way, backed to the social historic lingüistic process, in the work O Alienista by Machado de Assis. In this corpus (text) we used the Maingueneau s perspective, that each ethos express a different discourse; considering the Aristotle s principle of verisimility who affirms that to the poet is not necessary to tell what happened exactly; but what could have happened. For this perspective, we analysed many fictional ethé in interaction, that results in a dialogue between many ideologies that argument with each other, promoting the text development. In this fictional world, criated by Machado de Assis, we worked with the concepts of poliphony and interdiscursivity. The presence of many voices has a functional purpose, because they are articuled strategically, to visualize the dialogue between many discourses; and, as a result, the conflit between many ideologies. If we look with attention, we will see that O Alienista projects the structure of a fictional world, reported by the narrator s ironical ethos, that denounces the society of his time, or, apart from this, the society that exists in the eternal present.

This research, based on a careful look at the development of the pedagogical activities of a Child Education Reference Center - CREI - in João Pessoa, aims to investigate, in the discourses of Education professionals, the interdiscourses that permeate them and determine the social representation in the educational practices of these professionals, providing them with a continuing education focused on gender relations, based on the following questions: does continuing education build and deconstruct the practices of Child Education professionals relating to gender identity? Is there a concern, so that stereotyped patterns of the role of men and women in society are not reflected in the experiences of these professionals with children, and that homophobic practices are broken up within the school institution? The stereotyped patterns regarding family education models, reproduced over the years, due to the lack of information related to the gender theme, which is the result of homophobic practices, can be observed in the way how the teachers talk with children and in driving of activities in the educational space. These practices, on the part of these professionals, are experienced in the construction of the identity and autonomy of the children. From these premises, the need arose for a more in-depth study to subsidize a proposal for continuing education. Continuing education, based on the conceptions of social representations and interdiscourse, seeks to reflect the discourses of teachers, nursery teachers and instructors regarding the teaching and learning of children attending the CREI, from O to 03 years old, on the theme of gender. It is an action research, of quantitative and qualitative character. It was divided into two stages: in the first, two questionnaires were applied in order to verify the degree of professional knowledge about gender relations; in the second, there is a suggestion of a continuous formation proposal, with reading workshops of texts that deal with topics related to research, rounds of conversations, statements of these professionals and construction of reports.

This paper starts from the premise that there are specific discourses of Mathematics and about Mathematics, presenting effective work proposals with the teaching and learning of mathematics in an attempt to minimize the negative discourses imposed on this discipline in teaching practices. Thus, it will be possible a reflection on new possibilities of teaching that consider the construction of new discursive practices around the subject with focus on the interdiscursivity phenomenon. At first It will be developed a characterization of discourse studies, its evolution and impact on the French Discourse Analysis with theoretical anchoring in Brandão (2003/2004), Charaudeau et al (2008), Maingueneau (1984/1993), Althier Revuz (1982) Mussalim (2001) Pêcheux (1990-1999) and Voloshinov (1981). In sequence, the research will depart from an analytical description of Mathematics discourse as a science and development in history from authors such as Avila (2006/2010), Atalay (2007) and Roque (2012); even thought, it's still essential to understand the proposals compreentions and didactic orientations brought by the National Curriculum Parameters of Mathematics (PCNs) as well as the Curriculum Parameters of Mathematics from Pernambuco (PCPE). Later, crystallized socialy discourses about math are presented with theoretical anchoring in Silveira (2012) and Machado (2011) analizing their impacts on the students discursive practices when they take part in a semistructured interview. Getting as a base all this discourse built about math, it was developed an intervention proposal in order to bring a discursive resignification to the teaching based on math education theoreticals. A detailed analysis of this proposal aplication, followed by a new interview, revealed that it is possible to reframe the discourse about Mathematics by producing effects of meaning in new discoursive practices in the classroom.

Full textThe aim of this dissertation is to analyze popular scientific discourse in English and Lithuanian from a multimodal perspective. Multimodal analysis is a comparatively new approach to discourse analysis which discusses not only language but also other modes, such as pictures, photos, videos, or graphs. Thus, the present investigation combines the analysis of non-verbal (non-moving images) and verbal elements (the author’s stance, intertextuality, and interdiscursivity), which appeared to be the most dominant modes in both languages. The analysis has revealed that the visual mode typically shows stereotypes depicted in pictures or photos (e.g., stereotypes of professions, gender, or non-Western cultures). The present investigation also demonstrates that the functions of the visual mode are varied: pictures and photos serve not only the informative, but also interpersonal, aesthetic, narrative, and other functions. The relationship between the textual and the visual is not homogeneous as it varies from very close when the textual describes the visual to a looser one when there is no direct relationship between the modes. The analysis of the verbal mode has revealed that the expression of the author’s stance is not very different in English and Lithuanian. The main difference can be observed when comparing popular scientific and academic discourse. In English more author’s stance features are used in academic discourse, while in Lithuanian they are used more than twice in... [to full text]

This dissertation proposes to sketch a historical, aesthetic and literary framework of the Aldravismo, a literary and artistic movement developed in the region of the Inconfidentes in the XXI century, in Mariana, Minas Gerais. Appearing in 2000, the Aldravismo explicit the proposition of poets who gathered to experience a way of provoking meaning without imposing the will of the author or disregarding the will of the reader, opening a possibility to produce something that could be complemented by the reader in the process of signification. Thus, it was born the proposition of Metonymic Literature , in which the producer presents a clue, a portion of what is represented and the reader/spectator is free to make up its complement of significance. The first part of this research develops a reflection on the historical context of the Aldravismo movement, pamphlets and newspapers from the pre-Aldravismo period to the consolidation of the movement (1995-2000). The second one traces the concept to interdiscursivity of the manifests published in the printed editions of the Jornal Aldrava Cultural (from 2000 to 2003) and on the book of base Aldravismo The literature of the subject (2002). The third one examines the literary production in newspapers published from 2000 to 2012, to explain the effectiveness of the concept of semiotic metonymy, i.e., the manner of its textual realization, in which a portion of something assumes significance of a totality, a hint that becomes discourse and a form that results from it. The analytical cycle of Aldravismo closes with the presentation of a new form of poetry the Aldravia , created in 2010 by poets of Mariana, consolidating the Aldravismo as a literary movement of the XXI century.

Full textThis study aims to examine critically the use of the photography system as a means towards the construction of discourses and a worldview summoned by an enunciator. The analysis' corpus is made up by David Lachapelle's (in the character of the enunciation actor) snapshots collected in his first book, Lachapelle Land (1996). This analysis is based on the discursive semiotics' framework; on Greimas' studies about meaning construction; on sociosemiotics; on plastic semiotics and Jean-Marie Floch's postulations about plasticity's role on signification building; on enhancements of semiotics theory as a theory of social interaction formulated by Landowski and Ana Claudia de Oliveira's contributions about sensible expression as global enunciation that proposes the discursive field of experience between enunciator and enunciatee. The content on the snapshots is considered taking into account the constructions of the enunciator given by means of semantic-syntactic employed as a way to evidence an axiologic system. The shaping elements of the expression level (eidetic, topologic, chromatic e materic) are the plastic resources chosen by the enunciator the sense effect of which is make visible a discourse about the world weavered using the photographic expression system and its sensible exploitation. The enunciative connection is constructed on photography having as discursive basis intertextuality and allowing to infer the enunciator's character by means of the discursive tools employed on the construction of Lachapelle's intertextual enunciation. The enunciatee is summoned to bring forth an interpretative making. It requires knowledge of other artistic works cited on the snapshot and take into considerations the sensible procedures used by the enunciator. Through these cognitive and sensible competences, the enunciator invites the enunciatee to process the collaborative sense construction

Full textThe present research focuses on the study of the interdiscursivity and the digressions in Madame Pommery by Hilário Tácito. This dissertation objective is to raise data on how tradition is worked in this novel, aiming at explaining its effects in the text. The leading hypothesis in this research is that the strategy of bringing tradition by means of intertextuality modalities has double feature in Madame Pommery. This writing procedure can both denote criticism to the models from the early XXth century or reverence, reinforcing the idea that, in the old, you may find the key to the modern. This dissertation also investigates in which aspects the digressions constitute the work s essence. Hypothetically we deduce that the digressions are strategies employed by the narrator to make the obedient reader, used to passive literature to be an active reader. The analyze of the work allowed us to prove that Tácito, by means of intertextuality modalities, seeks the tradition, not as a copy, but as a review of the past. His writing form both reverences a style and an author, as also signalizes the saturation of a literature not suitable to the reality lived in São Paulo in that time. The work points to new literary possibilities, which soon would be created by the Modernism. Moreover, by the analysis it is possible to affirm that Tácito s modernity is on the fact of being able to, by intertextuality and digression, take the reader out from passivity, involving him in the narrative. This way, Tácito shows the necessity of looking at the reading process from another extremity: the reader, who would only be studied by the Literary Criticism, from 1970 s on

Full textConsidered as a tool to understand living performance, the school of the spectator encourages participants to apprehend drama as a living artistic practice through representation. This work considers the spectator in his or her relation to the foreign language through the experiment of theatricality. The targeted language of learners builds up through the confrontation with the languages of the stage. First, we define the school of the spectator as a practice of theatricality considered as the specificity of theater enunciation, the issues are then considered within the context of French as a foreign language acquisition. Our methodology confronts interactionist perspectives in the collective reception of plays, discourses and gestures analysis, in particular in dramatic play. The study demonstrates how the learners take ownership of the performance by co-rebuilding it through interactions and by leaning on a form of collective memory. We then examine the role of emotions and perceptions in the reception and construction of several languages, underlining the aesthetic relationship built between participants and the performances. We analyze how the subjectivity of learners grows, especially through the identification process. Finally, the school of the spectator is considered as a place for the exploration and experimentation of languages through the creative re-working of the scenic language. This practice allows a third voice to emerge in the crossing of various forms of enunciation, creating interdiscursivity processes produced by the always active reception of performances by spectators

Full textThis research has as its theme the construction of identity of science in the media. It is justified in the context of mediatization, where the media acquires a central role in constructing representations of reality and of identities which influence the way the subjects represent the social world (SODRÉ, 2002). The central objective is to analyze the construction of identity of science in Galileu magazine by the theoretical and methodological basis of Discourse Analysis. We evaluated the extent to which the publication adopts a monophonic or polyphonic tone according to Bakhtin. The corpus covers six cover reports of Galileu with the subject of health and cognition, selected from April 2010 to July 2011. The analysis is divided into: analysis of the context of discourse production and discourse analysis. The context analysis used an interview with the current managing editor of the magazine as a tool for data collection. The discourse analysis is divided into four steps: 1) identification of speakers and enunciators of the corpus, 2) description of the ideological formations (IFs) of which these views (enunciators) originate themselves and 3) materialization of these IFs in discourse by the localization of discursive formations (DFs) that compose Galileu and 4) analysis of the relation that DFs build between each other in the discourse. The results show the discursivity of Galileu constructed by a confluence of voices and identities of science related to the IFs of modernity and postmodernity. Its discursivity comes as polyphonic in most of the corpus, due to equipollence, plenivalence and immiscible among these voices. Voices from scientific community are shown as plenivalents, while voices from common sense illustrate and support scientific discourse.

Full textIt is an assumption herein that any text is the place of constitution and interaction of social subjects, an event in which converge linguistic, cognitive and social actions, according to a dialogical conception of text (BAKHTIN, 1992). Nowadays, textbooks still prescribe teaching procedures in many Brazilian classrooms (MESERANI, 2001; MARCUSCHI apud DIONÍSIO; BEZERRA, 2005) and it is understood herein that the articulation of activities related to texts, found in those materials designed for Junior High students, to linguistic-discursive resources such as intertextuality and interdiscursivity, is necessary to the construction of textuality and meaning and it can be considered a relevant research topic. Thus, we analyze: a) the methodological instructions present in the Teacher's Manual and b) reading and writing activities extracted from two collections of textbooks, designed for Junior High school (6th to 9th grades). This investigation highlights the qualitative aspect, the analytical-descriptive nature and the interpretive character of research and aims to bring new references to descriptive research on Portuguese language, in the studied school level, establishing a dialogue with the teaching approaches of reading and writing in school, besides enabling a critical analysis of how Portuguese textbooks are used in class. The analysis is theoretically supported by Semiolinguistic, a development of the French Discourse Analysis (FDA), which focuses on discourse as an interactive process, existing in a specific context, resulting from a contract (CHARAUDEAU, 2008), assumed by a particular social group, in a given social-interactive situation. Considering the analysis of the textbooks, it is highlighted the little emphasis given to the role of intertextuality as a cohesive resource, also helping in the construction of textual coherence, and as a way of manifesting the argumentative dimension in any text; in the same way, in relation to the interdiscursivity, it is highlighted the lack of reference to the discursive presuppositions and other markers of polyphony, as well as to irony, in reading and writing activities, in the textbooks investigated

Full textThe literary production of Jean Rhys, Janet Frame, and Anita Desai, which covers nearly all the twentieth century, testifies to the relationship between the Caribbean, New-Zealand, India and the British Empire. Even though Rhys, Frame and Desai are mostly known as novelists, this thesis dwells on their short stories. As a marginal and fragmentary genre, the short story echoes a variety of issues related to Postcolonialism, Modernism and Postmodernism. My issue is the study of the themes of the voice and of discourse, and especially of the way in which the omnipresence of ideological, political and social discourses is further complexified by the presence of intertextuality. The use of alien voices, borrowed notably from the western literary canon, poses the question of literary authority – especially in a context where postcolonial and feminine authority is so precarious. We shall observe that, in these authors’ short stories, the genre becomes hybrid, plurivocal, harder to define, which entails its requalification. Far from the monolithic nature of the novel, the short story appears as a space of liberty and creation where authority is both tampered with and constantly reaffirmed, and where authorial presences in turn appear and disappear. As places where the figure of the Author is continuously staged, the short story and the collection of short stories redefine the limits of the genre by weaving an intricate discursive and intertextual fabric where Jean Rhys, Janet Frame and Anita Desai work towards the elaboration of an aesthetic of the voice

The objective of this research is to reflect about the interdiscourse and intertextuality in the constitution of the chronicles journalistic writing. Based on the relation between the different planes of discourse, including intertextuality, the intention is to verify the space exchange (interdiscourse) preceding the genesis of discourses present in the chronicles. For this, the study of global semantic, by applying different textual clues, is taken as evidence that helps to understand the functioning of interdiscourse. The theoretical framework of the research are included in Literary Theory, in Textual Linguistics, French Discourse Analysis and more specifically in-discursive enunciation proposed by Dominique Maingueneau in Genesis of Discourse (2007). His theory is the basis for the analysis of a discursive practice which are imbricated verbal and non-verbal, the text that constitute the chronic and the image that dialogues to the speech of this genre. According to the principle of the Global Semantic, the discourse must be taken in the multiplicity of its dimensions. Based on that premise, the initial hypothesis of this thesis is: 1) There is a set of restrictions that are specifics of the genre analyzed; 2) The interdiscourse and intertextuality are principles that rule the verbal-visual textualization of the chronicles and journalistic; 3) it is not possible to separate the operation of interdiscourse of its materialization in the order of the language. The corpus of reference of the research consists of seven journalistic chronicles of the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo, between the months of June and July during the South Africa World Cup in 2010. This research has pervaded also a corpus of intersemiotic nature, however, it was considered that is not possible to endorse one idea over another. It is possible to enlace them in the same movement, which implies to claim that the meaning or meanings are not in a specific section of the text. They are in directions that emanate from set and organized according to the same rule set, the global semantics

Assim, a análise empreendida visa focalizar as manifestações discursivas numa macro-instância, enquanto conjuntura enunciativa e numa micro-instância, estabelecendo o potencial enunciativo (SANTOS, 2004).

This Thesis is in the field of the French Discourse Analysis within History and Description of Portuguese Language Graduate Studies Program at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo. Its theme is the Linguistic Identity of the Brazilian People, registered in the literary discourse of the Nineteenth Century, through lexical uses. It relies on the theoretical presuppositions of the French Discourse Analysis, which main representative is Pêcheux. Accordingly, the notions of language, culture and ideology are circumscribed by the analytical categories of Discourse, Society, History and Ideology, within a multi- and cross-disciplinary focus. Methodological presuppositions are retaken Official-History readings by Freire (2002), and Ribeiro (2005), and Non-Official-History from different period., and criteria are the point of view of the reader-researcher. At this process, literary texts are qualified as historical resources of National Liguistic Identity, and to register it, stereotyped or crystallized models of usual language are re-created. The hypothesis, that guides the study is that, if the man is a human being that transforms, raises and maintains, his owns ways of act and interact through language are supported by changes that involves stays; reason, the transmutations, in languages fields, hauls matrixes from the past. This period represents social-political-cultural transition, in which Brazil passes from Colony to Modern-State and rises a new/Man. The corpus reviewed is composed of selected texts of O Mulato (1881) by Aluísio Azevedo. The methodological procedure adopted has to scan the discourse formation in search of lexical uses of the Portuguese language to legitimate them as responsable of the Brazilian Linguistic Identity. The results obtained point out that the hypothesis is suitable and that the goals were achieved, namely: overall goal: 1. to contribute to the knowing of the real Brazilian Linguistic Identity, by the lexical uses in the literary discourse, accorded in/by interdiscursivity with Official-History Discours; 2. to remodel by historiography, the Brazilian marcs present in the literary discourse; and, to present, by literary discourse, the linguistics models that are favorable to the Brazilian Linguistic Identity formation

Full textThe objective of this thesis is to search the interdiscursivity between the Sermon of the Mount, from the Gospel of Matthew, and the Four Pillars of the Education from the Report of the International Commission on Education for the Twenty-First Century presented to UNESCO. It is possible to identify immediately the ethical-religious nature of the Biblical text of the first century and the political-educational character of the report based on the contemporary education s worldview. At a first moment, the research sets the examination of the theoretical principles of the genders of discourse, the conditions of production, the ethos, and the interdiscursivity. After that, both discourses are examined under those principles so that, at last, it is possible to verify and confirm the interdiscursivity between these discourses about the question of learning to be.

Full textThe aim of his work is to analyze how the media - especially newspapers intended for young citizens - treated the 2002 and 2007 French presidential elections under the scope of democratic responsibility, considered within the framework of discursiveness. The study concerns five nationally distributed newspapers and magazines specifically targeting young people: the daily newspaper L’Actu, the weekly newspaper Les Clés de l’actualité, the monthly newspaper Les Dossiers de l’actualité and the monthly magazines Phosphore and Citato. The general purpose of this thesis is to experimentally establish the hypothesis that the studied newspapers’ discourses could be described by means of four functions implemented in the representation of presidential elections issues: (1) explanation and analysis of the electoral context, (2) incentive function, inviting young readers to feel an interest in this context, (3) controversy which aims at giving rise to debates and (4) legitimatization, supposed to lead young people to “good” electoral attitudes. In order to cope with this purpose, we turned to good account the concepts of Interdiscursiveness and Argumentativeness in the analysis of the representation of political events by the mass-media, seen from the theoretical point of view of argumentative analysis of discourse, which facilitates an interdisciplinary approach (linguistics / information and communication sciences / political sciences and the theory of the mediation, coming from clinical anthropology). The study of the corpus privileges three entrances: the strategies implemented in catching the attention of young readers, the various strategies elaborated in order to report other people speech and reported discourses of young people, considering the arguments they stand up for about policy and the political function. Finally, some indirect argumentative effects induced by the configuration of the democratic debate held in newspapers addressed to young people are also focused on

Full textThe twenty-first century is only just beginning and we can already see what the future conflicts will be like. In the United States, Canada or Europe, debates are more and more insistent on the questions of identity and the need to define itself in relation to the "Other". The need to define itself, but also more and more the need to protect "who we are" in the face of a world where everything is changing. In this thesis, I propose to read some of the most committed writers of their time within the Francophonie. Chahdortt Djavann, Amin Maalouf, Boualem Sansal and Atiq Rahimi are all from predominantly Muslim countries. Their literature is unquestionably an opened window on the cultures of their regions. But their literature is also an important material for the academic world for a better understanding of the times we live. I would like to use this corpus to understand an issue that has been at the center of the news for almost twenty years: Islamism. What is it about ? A culture ? A religion ? And in particular, what are the relations that the literary text has with this phenomenon? Asking the right questions and answering them in the most objective way is certainly the first step towards a better mutual understanding between two regions that must necessarily coexist in harmony: East and West.
Chandrasoma, Ranamukalage. "Coping with interdisciplinarity: postgraduate student writing in business studies." 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/2100/537.
Full textThis thesis critically investigates how student writers cope with interdisciplinarity in business studies at postgraduate level. The corpus of knowledge student writers have to grapple with today seems to distance itself from the traditional mono-disciplinary contexts. Texts as well as the students who construct them are being continuously informed and conditioned by new values and imperatives of relatively new discursive practices. Hence, student academic writing(henceforward ‘student writing’) especially at postgraduate level can be regarded as a complex academic endeavour where students have to take up multiple writing positions. Analyzing student texts against the backdrop of the enormous intertextual and interdiscursive resources pertaining to interdisciplinarity is a major component of this thesis. Electivization of the curricula, on the other hand, while providing student writers with a wide range of choices, has created yawning gaps between what is commonly known as prior knowledge and what is yet to be learnt in the form of new knowledges. These epistemological considerations, i.e., how disciplinary knowledge is acquired, evaluated, contested, and strategically used also constitute an integral part of this research. Also of importance in the above contexts are the often lengthy and generically diverse assessment tasks students are required to accomplish within specific deadlines. The nature and structure of assignment topics and assessment tasks have in the past two decades or so undergone tremendous changes owing in large measure to disciplinary as well as socio-economic imperatives. Student writing has several dimensions in terms of the mode of assessment, egg. examination-based, presentation-based, research-based, observation-based. This thesis, however, will focus on research-based writing tasks. Based on the findings of this thesis, a paradigm called critical interdisciplinarity has been proposed in the concluding chapter of this thesis. Pedagogical and curricular considerations play a vital role in critical interdisciplinarity. By virtue of their encyclopaedic dimensions, knowledge domains relating to academic interdisciplinarity in student writing lend themselves to a wide range of future research projects. An attempt has been made here to critically explore only a tiny proportion of this inexhaustible repertoire of knowledge.

Full textMultidiscipline has definitely marked the journey of Assia Djebar. The Algerian French writer has devoted interest in literature as well as the arts. Her infatuation with the arts hasn’t been without influence towards her writing. The fact is above all remarkable in the level of numerous explicit references, both intertextual and interdiscursive, that her stories have made their rounds in cinema, in art, in music, in photography and in mosaics. It is from these references that we hypothesize a relation to the arts, implemented in a more implicit style in Djebar’s prose, that is to say an openess to defining her poetics. Therefore, for us it is a matter of putting into place writing procedures, in the Djebarian style, which in return for their movements and changes, are capable of creating effects as well as techniques that will be used in other art forms that are generally produced. Intermediality allows us to envision this type of work. Whereas, intertextuality puts emphasis above all on texts, interdiscursivity on discourse, and interartiality on the esthetical characteristics of artistic productions ; intermediality gathers these concerns, without neglecting to consider the technical dimension inherent to the phenomena of meaning which lends shape to their semiotic subject matter.

Full textAlienation, a major problem in Haitian literature, has been widely addressed by writers and scholars alike. Examples of this can be found and have been renewed in Haitian writer Gary Victor’s works, À l’angle des rues parallèles and Je sais quand Dieu vient se promener dans mon jardin. The aim of this research is to look at alienation brought on by the assimilation of discourses circulating within society. Victor’s works not only exhibit both collective and individual alienation and reveal the various mechanisms that provoke this « mania». He sets his narratives in a chaotic universe where the interdiscursive modalites of representation − namely of places and environments − come to reinforce the somewhat generalized impression of alienation. Consequently, it is the most deranged of Victor’s characters that are seemingly the most lucid. Borrowed notions of sociocriticism have aided in the development of the theoretical framework of this research. This work is divided into five chapters. The first four chapters analyze the discourses presented as the character’s source of alienation. Chapter one focuses on the impact of these discourses with regard to the consumer society which no longer solely consists of the production, distribution and consumption of goods, but also management and interpersonal relations. Chapter two looks at religious beliefs including traditional indigenous beliefs and Catholicism. This chapter illustrates how such religious beliefs can be a potential danger-namely for the more credulous of people-and explains how they can even become a weapon for those with ill-intentions. Chapter three explores the political and historical discourses within Haitian society. It looks at how such discourses have become pernicious references to the Haitian society and how they are used by politicians to manipulate their own people. Chapter four focuses on the perverse effects of the different discourses in social sciences, mainly philosophy and psychoanalysis, and shows the disastrous consequences that these discourses can bring when they are transformed into immovable principles. The last chapter analyzes some of the modalities of this unique representation of alienation. Hostile settings, violent characters as well as the use of literary and cinematographic references which mark the social imaginary are some of the techniques utilized by Victor. This chapter highlights different characters, each of whom reveal a resistance to this demonic universe. Studying the works of Victor gives way to reflection and encourages us to ponder the meaning of popular novel linked with modernity as defined by Alexis Nouss. Through Victor’s work, one can begin to appreciate that this genre though frequently perceived as mere entertainment, can lend hand in the remedying of a society that is losing it’s bearings.
