Abstract:
Abstract: In the debate on the interdisciplinary, which has been increasing in Brazil, the idea that it is a process of integration between disciplines still dominates. This integration must be gradual and, therefore, may even provide a fusion of the disciplines involved. In that perspective, the interdisciplinary relations depend primarily on methodological procedures are feasible through the efforts of teachers and researchers who believe in the interdisciplinary approach. This communication shows that the interdisciplinary behavior does depend neither on methodological procedures nor on the efforts of teachers and researchers because it stems from historical issues. From this premise we must go to achieve an understanding of interdisciplinary that will overcome the fragmentation of knowledge. This fragmentation arises from the social division of labor imposed by the capitalist mode of production. Therefore, the analysis of the interdisciplinary relationship can not do without the examination of the historical process that divides the work.

Abstract:
Science education is based on knowledge of natural sciences, such as biology, chemistry, physics and astronomy. One of the main tasks of natural science education – to be able to discover the connection between the natural science subjects, and to understand the nature processes and phenomena. Interdisciplinary science education emphasizes in general programs of basic and secondary education. Educational practice and research shows that not all science subjects’ teachers are equally prepared to use interdisciplinarity in their lessons. This analysis focuses on the searching of interdisciplinary links by experimentally exploring the phenomenon of photosynthesis. The process of photosynthesis was selected as one of the most important phenomena of nature, known and understandable for all students at different levels. In order to reveal and highlight the essential integration links of photosynthesis three stages research (an experimental exploring of photosynthesis, a semi-structured interview survey, graph-tree drawing) was carried out. Graph-tree of photosynthesis revealed as content of physics, chemistry and biology subjects are linked by integrative relations. Quite wide and deep interdisciplinary links of photosynthesis process was discerned: knowledge of each subject needed in order to properly understand and master the process of photosynthesis was shown; the main components of photosynthesis process were excluded and aspects of the development of the concept have been provided. Key words: science education, interdisciplinary relations, the process of photosynthesis, graph-tree.

Abstract:
Sustainable interdisciplinarity focuses on human–nature relations and a multitude of contemporary overlapping research between society and the environment. A variety of disciplines have played a large part in better understanding sustainable development since its high-profile emergence approximately a quarter century ago. At present, the forefront of sustainability research is an array of methods, techniques, and growing knowledge-base that considers past, present, and future pathways. Specific multi-disciplinary concentrations within the scope of societal changes, urban landscape transformations, international environmental comparative studies as well as key theories and dynamics relating to sustainable performance are explored. Specializations in complex sustainability issues address international governance arrangements, rules, and organizations—both public and private—within the scope of four themes: sustainability, human geography, environment, and interdisciplinary societal studies. This book contains eleven thoroughly refereed contributions concerning pressing issues that interlink sustainable interdisciplinarity with the presented themes in respect of the human–nature interface.

Abstract:
Interdisciplinarity is often quoted as a means to solve the complex social challenges faced by humanity, and the future of research is thus seen as increasingly interdisciplinary. However, there are risks and challenges to embarking on interdisciplinary research, particularly for early-career researchers. Encounters – bringing together early-career researchers to cultivate their interdisciplinary skills or to develop new projects – have been proposed and trialled as a means to boost interdisciplinarity amongst early-career researchers and equip them with the necessary skills for successful project delivery. However, little follow-up evaluation has been undertaken, especially considering career impacts several years after encounter participation. This article focuses on two encounter types and evaluates the level of interdisciplinary interactions obtained and the benefits experienced by participants. In conclusion, encounters are found to be highly successful, resulting in many projects and skills/career development. As such, further funding should be allocated to this type of event.

AND THE PROBLEM OF CANNIBALISM: Interdisciplinary ContributionsABSTRACTThis article presents a set of Archaeology concepts that deals with the need for interdisciplinary relations in the formulation of interpretive models on the practice of cannibalism as an integral, non exclusive, way of life of the prehistoric. From a concept of Bioarchaeology, the necessary interdisciplinarity was observed with studies of Anthropology and Biology to make the traces of the practice of eating the human body – or parts – in the archaeological context scientifically verifiable. The vestiges of this practice can be within the funerary cycle or in contexts of discarding or extra-funeral, whose perception is complex. Keywords: Cannibalism, Bioarchaeology, Ethnography, interdisciplinarity.

Abstract:
The article reveals the interconnection of economic, scientific and technical factors in engineering training. The article explores that global enhanced interdisciplinarity has been discussed in the engineering education context from the early 21st century. It has been found out that there is no disagreement about its importance for the engineers, the key question has been how to implement theory into practice both in the curriculum and in the actual learning enhancement phase. Interdisciplinarity in the engineering education is considered as a basis for critically new competitive engineering solutions. The indicators proving the availability of interdisciplinary management system at a higher educational institution are outlined. The necessity of using interdisciplinary educational technologies in the process of training engineers has been substantiated in the article. The decisive significant feature of interdisciplinarity in education under the condi-tion of sharp growth in information activity and the increased role of intellectual property items in modern economy are demonstrated. Interdisciplinarity is based on the network relations among the studied disciplines. Goal, content, and trends in interdisciplinarity are presented in the system of engineering training. It has been claimed that interdisciplinarity, which envisages systemic integration of acquired knowledge into the individual’s worldview, enables to transform abstract information into applicable skills and competencies. Interdisciplinary tasks of engineering education boost intensive international collaboration and intercultural cooperation. It is concluded that the interdisciplinarity of the educational process should be focused on the development of human consciousness and the level of moral, socio-economic, professional competencies. It is shown that the transition to interdisciplinary education is a problem of values, rational will and choice.

Abstract:
This paper focuses on the development of interdisciplinarityin the Master’s programs in Greek universities. For our analysis, we searched for tools from the Sociology of Organisations (Mayntz) and the Sociology of Science (Whitley). We argue that the University and its keyactors have adopted interdisciplinarity, firstly, as a means to increase institutional funding, and secondly, with care so as not to disturb theinternal institutional structure and the power relations between the key actors in the University. Indeed, on the one hand, universities, responding to the public calls for interdisciplinary programs, took advantage of the European support program for Greece in order to enrich their infrastructures. On the other hand, the new structures and functions (interdisciplinary Master’s programs) remain loose and weak. So the central role of the Department and laboratories remains intact. As a consequence, the internal relations of the institutional actors are protected. Thus, interdisciplinarity seems to be a low priority issue. However, it is interesting to consider that more than 10 years after theend of European funding, the majority of these programs remains active.

Abstract:
The article highlights the issue of ensuring the quality of higher education through the prism of the use of interdisciplinary links on the example of the study of historical disciplines and foreign languages. The analysis of the legal framework, as well as the scientific literature made it possible to identify effective ways to ensure the quality of higher education. One of them is the application of the principles of interdisciplinary relations. The implementation of the interdisciplinary approach is considered as a promising method for the professional training of students of the Faculty of History with the use of knowledge of a foreign language. It is proposed to create integrated programs, teaching professional disciplines in English. It is recommended to offer students English literature. In the context of the interdisciplinary approach, the integration of professional components using the skills of linguistic literacy is considered. The concept of interdisciplinary research is based on the premise that concepts and facts are not studied in isolation from each other. Implementation of the disciplinary approach is considered as a promising method for professional training of students for the application of knowledge in other disciplines. The European vector of higher education development is determined by the high level of requirements for the specialist, which necessitates the search for effective ways to ensure the quality of higher education. One of the directions of updating the learning process is the integration of educational material from different disciplines, namely: historical disciplines and foreign language. To apply the principle of interdisciplinary links, it is important to use the CLIL approach in foreign language classes. The teaching of professional disciplines in English is relevant today in domestic universities, as it is an important factor in increasing prestige, internationalization and improving the quality of professional training. When creating integrated programs to enhance the independent cognitive activity of students of the Faculty of History, it is important to recommend students to English-language literature. The use of interdisciplinary connections allows students of the Faculty of History to discover their creative potential and develop as a person.

Research about interdisciplinary research is less and less done by those doing it. This paper tries to reflect upon my own interdisciplinary practices and experiences. In the first part, I present an example of successful interdisciplinary research. Then, I attempt to introduce two nested cases of interdisciplinary scholarship and their development, one being my ‘Fakultät’ (which roughly equals a department) and the other, smaller one, being my research group. In the third part, I attempt to offer explanations for the development described with reference to some of the burgeoning literature on interdisciplinarity. Incentive structures, epistemological challenges such as disciplinary capture and structural effects of the hosting university are discussed. In a final section, othering as an inevitable process is used to elucidate the dynamics of developments within and beyond academia and to draw conclusions about the two cases presented.

Abstract:
Interdisciplinarity receives increased attention in different parts of the Danish educational system. At the upper secondary level, compulsory, multi-subject coursework was introduced by the reform of 2005, and universities offer interdisciplinary course programs to a higher extent. This development raises the question of how the notion of interdisciplinarity is realized in teaching and in research. In this article a pilot study on how university faculty view interdisciplinarity in teaching, research and cooperation is presented. Interdisciplinarity is viewed differently depending on social relations, that is whether you work alone or together with others in merging several disciplines.

Abstract:
The ‘emotional turn’ within the social sciences and humanities attracts increasing scholarly attention. Political Science, traditionally emphasising the ‘rational’ public sphere rather than the ‘emotional’ private sphere, has increasingly questioned this dichotomisation, identifying broader political concepts and practices. The international political process—frequently characterised by widespread distrust, populist campaigns and extreme rhetoric—necessitates addressing and examining its underlying emotions. Informal, affective manifestations of politics are enormously influential, profoundly shaping inter- and intra-national democracy; they accordingly require interdisciplinary study. This thematic issue of Politics and Governance includes disciplines as diverse as education, history, international relations, political theory, psychology, and sociology. In doing so, we illustrate that emotions are cross-disciplinary concerns, relevant beyond the study of politics.

Abstract:
Theories of decision-making grounded in political psychology have experienced a dramatic rise in the study of International Relations. There is widespread recognition of the benefits of incorporating insights from the behavioural sciences into analyses of political behaviour. However, some scholars have argued that the theoretical and empirical scope of these perspectives remains hampered by an unresolved issue: aggregation. While the fundamental unit of interest in psychology is the individual, most International Relations models concern patterns of collective decision-making in aggregate units such as states, bureaucracies, armed groups, transnational networks and institutions. This article contributes to the aggregation debate by providing a more optimistic portrait of its implications for interdisciplinary work. I argue that aggregation may be an overstated problem in International Relations and that a disciplinary preoccupation with it may hinder rather than pave the way for interdisciplinary theorizing.

Nowadays teaching methodology which undergoes reformations is various and multi- faceted. Teachers should be able to choose the right method of teaching due to the subject-matters and materials. It is important to pay attention on inter-disciplinary relations which help to make the lesson more substantial, productive and learner-oriented. The ties between Literature and Psychology should be applied while studying fiction, where succession of events is more than dramatic and there exist a range of moments and special expressions of emotional state.

Abstract:
AbstractThis article develops a theory of interdisciplinarity and examines relations between historians and sociologists in Germany and France over the course of the twentieth century, focusing in on several key moments of interdisciplinary activity. Interdisciplinary engagements are motivated by scholarly problems, field-specific interests and battles, and pressures and inducements coming from states, businesses, and scientific institutions. Analysis of the most productive moments of cross-disciplinary interaction suggests that they occur when disciplines are equal in power and when scholars are motivated by scholarly problems and disciplinary conflicts to move beyond their disciplines. More generative forms of interdisciplinarity are dialogic and processual, characterized by a fusion of perspectives; less productive forms are externally induced, involve asymmetrical partners, and are organized around division of disciplinary labor rather than an interpenetration of perspectives. The most productive interdisciplinary conjunctures result from serendipitous resonances and contingent synchronicities between subfields of semi-autonomous disciplines. It is thus impossible to produce the most fruitful forms of interdisciplinarity deliberately. The article examines three cases of symmetrical, processual interdisciplinarity involving sociology and history. Two of these cases were located in the French academic field, first between the wars, and then again after 1980. The other case of dialogic collaboration between historians and sociologists begins in Nazi Germany and continues after 1945 into the 1960s, leading to the formation of West GermanHistorische Sozialwissenschaft. Examples of unbalanced interdisciplinarity include German “History-Sociology” during the Weimar Republic, in which sociologists’ opening to history was not reciprocated by professional historians andHistorische Sozialwissenschaftafter 1970.

Abstract:
Introduction. Global transformation processes, the globalization of the financial sphere in particular, which have intensified at the turn of the XX – XXI centuries, created new preconditions for the economization of international relations and the expansion of classical diplomatic tools (including economic and financial) for the foreign policy of individual actors in international relations. Orthodox approaches are being replaced by the realization that financial diplomacy is the basis for forming the economic image of the state; the institution of promoting national interests outside states and integration associations; the form of political influence and foreign economic policy; as well as a public-private partnership in international affairs. A huge variety of interests and contradictions are intertwined when talking about financial diplomacy. In this sense, the study of financial diplomacy involves going beyond the disciplinary division of social sciences and necessities of the formation of the generalization theory principles, which would be adequate to modern transformations in the system of international relations. The purpose of the article is to scientifically argue the need to apply the concept of "financial diplomacy" in scientific circulation; based on the logic of methodological monism, to reveal the interdisciplinary nature of financial diplomacy as a new independent object of economic diplomacy, which requires deepening the conceptual foundations and expanding its application in practice. Methods: scientific synthesis, interdisciplinary exchange, cross-sectional research, integrated thinking. Results. It has been found that financial diplomacy is an insufficiently discussed concept in science. It is argued that financial diplomacy, as an interdisciplinary phenomenon, should be considered in the context of interdisciplinary discourse at the conceptual and empirical levels, combining pragmatism of politics, the rationality of economics, and the art of diplomacy. At the conceptual level, it is proposed to consider financial diplomacy as an important component of economic diplomacy and as an independent area of diplomatic practice, formed under the influence of systemic determinants of global development. At the empirical level, financial diplomacy is a multidisciplinary institution of diplomacy. Within this paper models, forms, and levels of financial diplomacy are singled out; its universal methods are supplemented by specific tools; emphasis is placed on the problems of forming a modern network structure of financial diplomacy at both the formal and informal levels. Conclusions. The objective necessity of separating financial diplomacy into a separate specific branch of modern diplomatic activity is scientifically substantiated; its interdisciplinary nature is revealed and a polymodal concept of research at the conceptual and empirical levels is proposed.

Abstract:
AbstractInterdisciplinarity is widely considered necessary to solving many contemporary problems, and new funding structures and instruments have been created to encourage interdisciplinary research at universities. In this article, we study a small technical university specializing in green technology which implemented a strategy aimed at promoting and developing interdisciplinary collaboration. It did so by reallocating its internal research funds for at least five years to “research platforms” that required researchers from at least two of the three schools within the university to participate. Using data from semi-structured interviews from researchers in three of these platforms, we identify specific tensions that the strategy has generated in this case: (1) in the allocation of platform resources, (2) in the division of labor and disciplinary relations, (3) in choices over scientific output and academic careers. We further show how the particular platform format exacerbates the identified tensions in our case. We suggest that certain features of the current platform policy incentivize shallow interdisciplinary interactions, highlighting potential limits on the value of attempting to push for interdisciplinarity through internal funding.

Abstract:
Research on environmental and resources issues is interdisciplinary by nature. For example, studying the economics of pesticides may entail working with both entomologists to address pest problems and toxicologists to address the human health problems associated with pesticide use. Interdisciplinary efforts require familiarity with the findings of other disciplines as well as direct collaboration with professionals in other disciplines. This paper presents a somewhat personal perspective on the issues that economists may encounter in interdisciplinary work. It also presents suggestions on how to increase the acceptance of economic thinking /theory by professionals in other disciplines. The paper starts with a theoretical discussion on relations between disciplines and between professions, followed by discussion of the issues affecting the relationships of agricultural economists with other professions.

Abstract:
AbstractSustainability science is, per se, a topic that is inherently interdisciplinarity and oriented towards the resolution of societal problems. In this paper, we propose a classification of scientific journals that composes the journal category “Green and Sustainable Science and Technology” in the period 2014–2018 through the entropy-based disciplinarity indicator (EBDI). This indicator allows the classification of scientific journals in four types based on the citing and cited dimensions: knowledge importer, knowledge exporter, disciplinary and interdisciplinarity. Moreover, the relationship between this taxonomy and the JCR bibliometric indicators and its predictive capacity of the taxonomy is explored through a CHAID tree. As well, relations between the Web of Science categories, journals and taxonomy are explored by the co-occurrence of categories and correspondence analysis. Results suggest that the great majority of journals in this field are specialized or interdisciplinary. However, over the 5-year period proposed in this study, interdisciplinary journals tend to be far more stable than specialized ones. The decision tree has shown that the number of citations is the variable with the greatest discriminating capacity.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to discuss the current role of qualitative research in the analysis of the relations between brands and consumers in new market spaces, with particular reference to how it can be enhanced with quantitative techniques to study interactions in online communities. Design/methodology/approach – The paper reviews key scientific contributions in the area of qualitative marketing research. Drawing from this theoretical background, the authors then propose the integration of digital ethnography (a qualitative approach) with quantitative text mining as an innovative approach to gain insights into perceptions of brand associations among online consumers. Findings – The paper contributes to a greater awareness of both limitations and new perspectives in relation to qualitative market research, while suggesting innovative paths for future research. Practical implications – The new methodological approach described can be used to better understand brand knowledge based on consumer brand associations. These insights can then be applied towards developing and implementing effective branding strategies. Originality/value – The authors propose an interdisciplinary methodology to study consumer behaviour in online communities which incorporates digital ethnography and computer-assisted textual analysis. Particularly the latter technique (borrowed from the field of linguistics) has not yet been exploited extensively in marketing research, but is capable of offering new types of knowledge with important implications for strategic brand management.
