Abstract:
Fundamentally, creative endeavors are affected by the personal philosophy of artists which are greatly concerned with their perception and interpretation of life and death. These two concepts form a reality which consists of this dichotomy. As `unity' has been an underlying goal in the work of many artists, it challenges the polarity conveyed in this viewpoint causing contemplation and conversation around the framing of their own existence through their work.

The dissertation intends to rethink the inequality in International Relations based on the book Power and Interdependence, published in 1977 by Robert Keohane and Joseph Nye. It is argued that, contrary to what the authors say, the new political processes that characterize international politics since the beginning of the twentieth century did not resulted necessarily in the decrease of international hierarchy. On the contrary, international organizations allow the articulation of other forms of discrimination among the states that cannot be reduced to economic factors or asymmetries of power. The core discussion about inequality in the work of Keohane and Nye is on the very concept of complex interdependence, which divides the international system between the advanced or pluralistic, industrialized, and those that cannot join this group without the proper adjustments. Therefore, international organizations would not be factors that decrease the hierarchy in the international system, but are reproducing inequality through the allocation of organizationally dependent capabilities.

Abstract:
This thesis investigates examining the effects of certain types of interdependence on motor performance in competition. In the first experiment, participants undertook a ball carrying and running task under varying levels of between-team resource interdependent condition in the individual competition. The number of balls that carried to the container decreased when between-team resource interdependence exists. In the second experiment, participants completed a basketball shooting and rebounding task under varying levels of between-team resource interdependent condition in a two-on-two team competition. Results indicated that the number of baskets made, the number of baskets attempted and the shooting accuracy was higher in resource independent competition. In the third experiment, participants undertook the same basketball shooting and rebounding task as the second experiment under varying levels of between-team resource interdependent condition and within-team reward interdependent condition. Results indicated effort-based performance was greater under resource independent condition and its interaction with low reward interdependent condition. In the final experiment, participants undertook a handgrip task in a four-on-four team competition. Compared to the no reward condition, performance was better under both high reward interdependent condition and low reward interdependent condition. Mediation analyses revealed that positive emotions, self-reported effort and pressure mediated the change of performance.

Abstract:
Countries live in an age of interdependenoo. Although there are &>me studies conoorned with the U.S.-Saudi relationship, to my knowledge, this is the first comprehensive study that analyses the U.S.-Saudi relationship as it relates to the conoopts of interdependenoo to be written sinoo the Gulf war of 1991. This study particularly examines the level of interdependenoo between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia as it affects their relationship. The oil embargo of 1973 marked a turning point in Saudi Arabia's relations with the United States. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has emerged as the most important foreign &>urce of American petroleum requirements. The U.S. for its part has supported Saud Arabia with security assistanoo and anTIS while seeking in return to affect Saudi Arabia's oil production and prioo decisions. For both countries maintenanoo of the supply of oil and anTIS are of vital importance, but each oountry has different priorities. The different positions taken by the U.S. and Saudi Arabia is affected by the fact that Saudi Arabia is the worlds' largest exporter of oil and that the U.S. is the world's largest oil consumer. The connection gave way to a more complex relationship of interdependenoo, involving shared as well as divergent interest and therefore, increased the potential for adversarial bargaining as well as agreement, antagonism as well as cooperation. The plan of this study is to explore whether the cooperation between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia in the fields of oil, politics, eoonomics and military developments has increased their interdependence. In addition, this study explores why the relationships between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia has moved over time from simple cooperation to oomplexity and how the two oountries have changed in their relative importanoo to each other and what has been the impact of changes in the international system, the Middle East, or within the U.S. and Saudi Arabia on U.S. - Saudi relations.

BORETTO, MARCO FELICE. "Cournot oligopoly with preference interdependence." Doctoral thesis, Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10281/291150.

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the presence of a structure of social in- teredependent preferences in a Cournot oligopoly. To do this, we introduce a game in which the network of interactions reflects on the utility functions of firms. Cconsidering interdependent preferences, we can identify an ad- ditional channel of interaction among firms, along with the usual market interaction that establish another, possibly local or even one-to-one form of interaction. The proposed modelling approach proves to be suitable to extend the re- sults about existence and uniqueness of the Nash equilibrium for Cournotian oligopoly models without interdependent preferences. We study the role of preference interdependence on the resulting properties of the Nash equilibrium of any game, in terms of strategic substitutabil- ity/complementarity. We characterize the Nash equilibrium through the two channels of interac- tion among firms. What emerges is then the primacy of the social sphere over the economic one in particular economic structures (i.e. Cournotian oligopolies) with interdependent preferences. The characterization of the equilibrium, the resulting degree of competitive- ness arising from the interdependence of social preferences and the compar- ative statics can be all expressed in terms of measures that describe the network properties. Comparative statics allows us to understand both how a change in the social interaction structure of a single player influences the outcome of the player itself, in terms of increased/decreased market share, and how a change in the interaction structure as a whole affects the collective outcome, in terms of increased/decreased profits.

In this dissertation we evaluate the degree of association between pairs of excess of returns, simultaneous and lagged, using the concept of copulas. Asymmetric copulas are fitted to 10 pairs of distributions of returns of world markets índices. From these copulas coefficients of tail dependence are obtained for the right and left tails. Isong those coefficients as measures of cross dependence and contagion between markets one can pick the pair of returns that show the best performance in periods of stress. If lagged excess of returns are included, then these coefficients provide information on the direction and intensity of the contagion spread. Our results have shown that such technique isd efficent in constructing a portfolio in which one wants to take advantage of joint extreme gains of pairs of returns and, simultaneously, avoid losses associated with the occurrence of joint negative extremes. The use of lagged returns in this context hás shown no extra gain, maybe reflecting the fact that, nowadays, the spread of contagion between world financial markets is almost instantaneous.

We implement techniques of graph theory to international trade in order to empirically inspect the international system of trade. Examining macro and submacro levels of the international system of trade from 1962-2003, we find the presence of a Scale-Free Network with a Multiscalar Hierarchy. Such structures are resilient to bottom-up economic collapse, but are susceptible to top-down and horizontal economic failures. Our findings are based upon an especially novel approach for examining submacro systems, applying latent community identification analysis to identify trading communities that are not necessarily formalized or institutionalized as trading blocs. Following this analysis, we examine the role of international institutions in the international trade network, specifically considering macro level institutions for stability solutions and examining the effects of joining a trade bloc. We find evidence that supports the intergovernmentalist framework, whereby certain types of trade blocs seem to succeed while others fail, leading to different results in integration and unification.

Abstract:
This paper presents a theoretical neoclassical growth model with two kinds of capital, and technological interdependence among regions. Technological interdependence is assumed to operate through spatial externalities caused by disembodied knowledge diffusion between technologically similar regions. The transition from theory to econometrics yields a reduced-form empirical model that in the spatial econometrics literature is known as spatial Durbin model. Technological dependence between regions is formulated by a connectivity matrix that measures closeness of regions in a technological space spanned by 120 distinct technological fields. We use a system of 158 regions across 14 European countries over the period from 1995 to 2004 to empirically test the model. The paper illustrates the importance of an impact-based model interpretation, in terms of the LeSage and Pace (2009) approach, to correctly quantify the magnitude of spillover effects that avoid incorrect inferences about the presence or absence of significant capital externalities among technologically similar regions. Abstract:
Never before have the life and works of Arthur Bliss (1891-1975) been subjected to an extended critical examination. Such neglect has resulted in the persistent misrepresentation and oversimplification of his stylistic development: here, Bliss is reassessed through a tightly-wrought chronological narrative, interwoven with key elements of social and cultural history. Some musical commentary is offered, and this invariably centres on Bliss's abstract works, which shed the greatest light on his evolving style and intentions. Some biographical elements III this thesis are entirely original: for example, a lengthy survey of Bliss's military service during the First World War has been constructed from his unpublished war diaries and letters, all of which are kept with other historical source material at the Bliss Archive, Cambridge University Library. Most emphasis is then placed upon the interwar years, when Bliss was at his most creatively productive. A final biographical chapter demonstrates that, although Bliss's output was prodigious in the last thirty years of his life, he failed almost entirely in that time to engage with contemporary audiences. Throughout his life, Bliss remained detached from the predominant musical establishment and its associated pastoral trends, yet he attempted - with modest success - to enter the cultural mainstream during the interwar years. The received two-period classification of Bliss's music is therefore challenged and rejected, and a new three-period scheme is proposed in the final chapter, drawing upon evidence concerning Bliss's relationship with his audience: consequently, much is revealed of Bliss's changing intentions and motivations. Bliss experienced lengthy periods of cultural isolation, while his most enduring music was composed at times of greatest social integration. His relationship with national identity in the light of two world wars becomes crucial in this context, as does his changing interactions with urban and rural contexts: it is this interdependence, and others, which defined a British 'identity', if present at all, during the twentieth century.

Abstract:
In recent years there has been a surge in interest in two branches of research. The first is the analysis of cross‐market linkages, arising from portfolio diversification analysis, in order to measure integration between countries. The second larger branch of research is the oil price effect, which has its roots in the effect of oil prices on economic activity. Specifically the impact of oil prices on stock market behaviour which, in turn, is regarded as being representative of economic activity. This thesis attempts to measure the effect of the oil prices on cross‐market linkages between stock markets. The analysis is performed utilising the Cheung and Ng (1996) causality‐in‐mean/variance test where the effect of the oil price on cross‐market linkages is estimated as the percentage change of the magnitude of the CCF coefficient after adjustment for the oil price. Daily data nonsynchronisation correction and the application of the rolling window method as a stability test contribute to the reliability of the estimation outcomes. Recognising the significance of oil prices for the development of the world economy, the research is focused on BRIC and mature market economies providing a mix of countries regarding their economic profile(emerging/developed) and oil‐status (net oil imported/self‐sufficient/exporter). A complementary effect of oil prices on cross‐market linkages was found for the pairs of countries with similar oil status and economic profile. However, the outcome for mixed pairs does not demonstrate a prominent trend. In general, the effect of the oil price on cross‐market linkages is found to be smaller in contemporaneous terms, while higher lag dependencies are described by a higher percentage change in the magnitude of cross‐market dependencies. The research demonstrates that the application of oil price adjustment, whilst exploring crossmarket linkages, may be an appropriate technique for determining the level of integration between pairs of countries where the sign of the percentage change is confirmed as stable.

"In this study, we explore the interdependence among different US industries by examining their correlations of the stock portfolios. Furthermore, we focus on the dynamics of their interdependent relations during peaceful and volatile periods; as such relations may change due to different sensitivities of each industry to the macroeconomic conditions. More specifically, we apply Vector Autoregression (VAR) methodology on the US industry portfolios and we use variance decomposition and generalized impulse response functions to identify the strength of the impact of each industry on the others. Based on different portfolio returns of the US industries during 1962 to 2008, we find if the pattern of the dynamic relations of the industries change in different periods. We also deduce the most influential and sensitive sectors in the US domestic market. In addition, we find the direction, strength and durability of the shocks using generalized impulse response function (GIRF)."

Hannah, John Ogilvie Leo. "Portrayal of world interdependence in social studies textbooks." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 1991. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/30624.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis focuses on how social studies textbooks, authorized for use in Canadian classrooms, portray our changing world. Preparing young people for citizenship in a world that is becoming increasingly interdependent requires presenting them with a way of thinking about the world that allows for consideration of alternative perspectives. The textbook, as a major vehicle for transmitting knowledge, can play an important role in that process. Although the volume of textual accounts of world interdependence is expanding, it is contended that the themes and images presented to students tend to reinforce unilateral rather than multilateral interpretations of reality. A framework of analysis is developed to determine if the textbooks employ either a multilateral thematic or unilateral thematic approach to the study of world interdependence. A multilateral approach encourages the exploration of different points of view on important world issues whereas a unilateral approach tends to focus on a particular interpretation of the same issues or events. This framework employs four rubrics suited to the analysis of the transmission of knowledge, description, explanation, prediction and prescription, to guide a series of analytical questions designed to determine if textbooks present unilateral or multilateral themes. Six significant world issue areas are evaluated in fourteen social studies textbooks. The issue areas profiled are: food supply issues, population issues, environmental issues, peace and security issues, human rights issues and economic Issues. The findings of this study indicate that the four dimensions of the framework are not adequately addressed in the selected textbooks. Twenty-two of the twenty-eight profiles studied tend to support a unilateral thematic rather than a multilateral thematic portrayal of how the world works. Preparing students for citizenship in a global age requires providing them with access to a body of knowledge that helps them to acquire a more integrated understanding of their world in order to make informed decisions and judgements about pressing global concerns. That goal is impeded when there is a propensity for textbooks to provide a particular viewpoint rather than a variety of viewpoints on important world Issues. Although this study is exploratory in nature, its findings present considerations for social studies educators when choosing to adopt particular textual materials for instructional purposes.

Read, Warren James. "Evolution of protein interdependence from pairs to networks." Thesis, University of Reading, 2015. http://centaur.reading.ac.uk/68267/.

Full text
Abstract:
I present a method for inferring a protein interdependency network, based on correlated evolution between proteins on a large phylogeny of 72 diverse eukaryotic species. My original contribution is in the span of the phylogenetic tree used to generate the network: similar studies have concentrated on more localised regions in the tree of life and have been undertaken with more limited intent. I show that the whole-eukaryotic correlated evolution network is a real network and has interesting features of its own. The method can be broken down into three major, sequential parts: binary trait derivation, phylogenetic inference and likelihood analysis. I describe the implementation of a reciprocal BLAST protocol for the inference of a binary trait matrix corresponding to the presence or absence of orthologues in each species in the analysis, based on a reference human proteome. Rows in the matrix correspond to the reference proteins, columns to species: entries are 1, denoting presence, or 0, denoting absence. The matrix that I derive is mapped onto a phylogeny of the same set of species, to facilitate the detection of correlated evolution between proteins, or orthologous sets thereof, based on the pattern of gains and losses. The phylogeny is inferred from a set of genes, which are selected according to the criterion that they be present in all 72 species. 15 genes meeting this criterion are identified from the trait matrix; 14 of them are aligned and used for phylogenetic inference. The inference itself is performed using the program BayesPhylogenies, which implements a phylogenetic mixture model using a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method. A consensus phylogeny (tree) is calculated after the chain has been run for many millions of iterations; trees based on the genes individually were also inferred, for purposes of comparison. I use the program BayesTraits to perform a likelihood analysis on pairs of proteins from the trait matrix. This method detects correlated evolution by means of a likelihood ratio statistic, relating the likelihood of the two proteins having evolved independently, to the likelihood of their having evolved in an interdependent, or correlated, fashion. If the likelihood ratio statistic exceeds a certain threshold, this is interpreted as the signature of correlated evolution. Using presumptively interacting protein pairs from the Human Protein Reference Database, and a control (or null) set of pairs where no interaction is expected, I present evidence for the efficacy of the method in detecting correlated evolution. I proceed to infer a network based on correlated evolution, wherein each link represents an instance of pairwise correlation, and demonstrate that a power law gives a good fit to the distribution of nodal degree within the network, which is also the case for a network of presumptive protein interactions with no filter for correlated evolution. Finally, I infer a new equation to characterise the evolutionary rules which fashioned the network. I propose a method for testing the equation, and discuss future directions.

Abstract:
This study is about discovering to what extent China uses its rare earth element policies as a tool of economic statecraft. With Chinas virtual monopoly on this resource and the United States increasingly growing demand, it is necessary to examine how China intends on using its economic power. The study builds a comparative framework using both structural realism and neoliberal institutionalism, by identifying theory predictions in terms of Chinas strategic intent and the specific policies it might employ in the rare earth element sector. Specifically, the study finds that Beijing has and will continue to use its rare earth policies as a tool of economic statecraft, but with restraint. Despite its present reliance on economic interdependence with the United States, as China continues to modernize the structure of its economy, more statecraft interventions will likely occur. Beijing was successful in utilizing its rare earth policies as a tool of economic statecraft both by influencing the behavior of its international and its domestic commercial actors. China will leverage its near-monopoly on the rare earths industry by continuing to aggressively employ policies that meet its long-term strategic objectives.

Full text
Abstract:
This article studies the role of participation in the budgeting process when the company has to coordinate two interdependent divisions. The focus lies on the design of the budgeting process (top-down vs. participative budgets) and the underlying supply of information. This is studied in a principal agent model where two divisions (agents) jointly generate earnings. With the participative budgeting process, the company (principal) implements an information system that provides the division managers with private information. Two economic effects occur. First, the company can benefit from the division managers' private information by perfectly coordinating the divisions' operations. Second, the company has to induce the managers to provide productive effort and with participation, to additionally report truthfully. Thus, the company incurs incentive costs. The two considered budgeting processes trade off these effects diametrically. For a low importance of coordination, the company prefers the top-down budgeting process and not installing an information system that allows the managers to obtain private information. Otherwise, the participative budgeting process is used. In contrast to the company, managers always prefer the participative budgeting process. In addition, the model predicts that a higher earnings potential increases the attractiveness of participative budgets.

As climate impacts escalate, U.S. cities and regions have attempted to fill the federal leadership vacuum in spite of their own resource constraints. In the midst of federal inertia, the Department of Defense (DoD) acknowledges climate risk, mainstreaming it into policy, while defense experts promote a climate security agenda. However, defense adaptation has been modest. Installations and the communities around them remain vulnerable, but these shared risks surface the potential for joint adaptation planning.
Through a relational case study of two regions with large defense complexes and the climate security policy community in DC, I ask: how and why do municipal and military leaders undertake joint adaptation? What impact does this have on commonly understood barriers to adaptation? How does climate security discourse shape urban/military collaboration? I find that in Hampton Roads, Virginia and San Diego, California, urban leaders are leveraging the military presence to reinforce their own adaptation efforts and elevate a broader adaptation agenda. This alliance operates through two mutually reinforcing enablers: recognizing interdependence and constructing credibility. As climate impacts compromise infrastructural and social networks, urban and military stakeholders have adopted interdependence as an operating premise, explicitly rejecting military islanding.
This challenges expectations in critical adaptation studies of the rise of ecological enclaves while more broadly challenging critiques of urban securitization. Further, it complicates notions of defense-dependency, as the military contingent increasingly recognizes reliance on the community. Amidst the politics of doubt, the military serves as a "credible messenger" on an institutional and individual level; climate security advocates work strategically, deploying this authority to build support for climate action. Both enablers reinforce the centrality of effective framing and multilevel coordination to urban adaptation. Benefits include expanded cooperation, increased technical capacity, and access to resources; pitfalls include favoring adaptation over mitigation and prioritizing conspicuous over mundane climate risks. Urban leaders' qualified success in leveraging the military for adaptation suggests implications for other powerful institutions.
Conceptualizing military installations as anchor institutions with an embedded local presence and dedicated mission highlights pathways for communities to form additional adaptation alliances.

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the unintended political effects of economic interdependence among South American members of the Alliance of the Pacific by tracing the evolution of their mutual trade in relation to the intensity of their military competitive dynamics from 2001 to 2015. Two measurement instruments are use: an intra-regional trade index based on commerce data, and a coordination index based on arms purchases. The question is if the formation of the Alliance and trade relations now embedded in it have had any effect on the cooperation-conflict political balance. Issues concerning the method are discuss as well as the implications of the research for the intertheory debate. Last section is dedicate to discuss briefly the historical understanding of regional conflicts and normative aims of regional integration.

Abstract:
The methylenetetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase and methenyltetrahydrofolate cyclohydrolase activities from the human trifunctional dehydrogenase/cyclohydrolase/synthetase are proposed to share a single active site. Binding studies reveal that a single tetrahydrofolate binding site exists in the domain and therefore the two activities share a single substrate binding site. As well, a single high affinity NADP-binding site was shown to exist in the domain, where NADP acts both as a substrate of the dehydrogenase and as a partial inhibitor of the cyclohydrolase, at the common active site. The 2$ sp prime$-phosphate of the $2 sp prime ,5 sp prime$-ADP moiety of NADP provides most of the affinity of this ligand for the enzyme. The presence of the 5$ sp prime$-phosphate results in methylenetetrahydrofolate binding cooperativity and activation of the cyclohydrolase. A new kinetic mechanism and the overall equilibrium constant for the dehydrogenase and cyclohydrolase were determined. They are consistent with the proposal that the bifunctional nature of the domain is used to optimize the efficiency of the reverse reactions in vivo. A side-reaction of the cyclohydrolase was identified and a scheme developed for enzymatic synthesis of (6S) -5-formyltetrahydrofolate.

Abstract:
Why have some countries grown rich while others have remained poor? This is a recurrent question in the literature on theoretical and empirical economic growth. One of the traditional stylized facts about growth over the last fifty years is that national growth rates appear to depend critically on the growth rates and income levels of other countries, rather than just on any one country's own domestic investment rates in physical and human capital. Actually, in this dissertation, we show that technological interdependence is crucial to challenge this recurrent question. It should be taken into account in theoretical models which aim at explaining economic disparities and growth processes. To highlight the theoretical and empirical implications of technological interdependence, we propose a modeling strategy based on a multi-country framework. We show that our theoretical models naturally imply econometric reduced forms, which are then estimated using the spatial econometric methodology

Abstract:
Conventionally, Australia’s major economic partners, particularly in terms of bilateral trade, have been the USA and the UK. However, over the last two decades, there has been a significant change in Australia’s economic associations, shifting from the USA and the UK to Asian countries. This suggests that Australia is economically integrating more with Asian countries than with its traditional partners. Theories of stock market interdependence, trade and asset pricing suggest that higher economic linkages among the countries can have a considerable impact on their stock markets’ interdependence. Empirical literature also suggests that stronger economic relations between the nations can significantly increase stock market relationships in the long-run. However, some other empirical studies documents that trade linkages have no considerable impact on stock market linkages.

Su, Rui. "Interdependence and tension around cultural tourism in city destinations." Thesis, Sheffield Hallam University, 2014. http://shura.shu.ac.uk/20409/.

Full text
Abstract:
Cultural tourism in cities involves cultural resources and the producers and consumers of those resources, with the integration of these elements resulting in different forms of cultural tourism and varied associated relationships. Culture and cultural heritage tourism often feature prominently in city-based tourist activities, and they can assist cities to achieve broad socio-economic and political objectives. Given the importance of urban cultural tourism, it is surprising that few studies have sought to establish a more comprehensive understanding of the processes and issues involved in its production and consumption. Instead, much relevant research focuses only on specific individual aspects or features of cultural tourism. The study responds to the need to understand urban cultural tourism through a holistic approach that also simplifies the relevant complex relationships. This research develops a holistic, relational and dialectical conceptual model in order to improve our critical understanding of urban cultural tourism. The model draws certain ideas from the circuit of culture conceptualisation of the assembly of contemporary material artefacts and from previous studies of cultural heritage tourism in cities. The central dialectic in the proposed model of urban cultural tourism concerns relationships of interdependence and tension. Urban cultural tourism involves much interdependence, such as between the production and consumption of tourism products, between culture and tourism departments, and between producers of cultural tourism products in the cultural and tourism sectors. Yet, there is also much tension involved in these relationships, such as between the preservation and commodification of cultural resources and between potentially different expectations of cultural tourism's producers and consumers. The model thus focuses on processes of interdependence and tension in urban cultural tourism. The applicability and value of the theoretical model is considered for the case of the city of Nanjing in China, a distinctive context for urban cultural tourism due to the city's rich cultural resources and the major changes in China's economy, society, politics and governance. The assessment is based on triangulation using a range of sources, including semi-structured in-depth interviews with industry officials and managers and tourists, observation, documents, photographic records, and social media. The research findings demonstrate the model's value, notably through its integrated approach, its focus on dialectical relationships of interdependence and tension, and the prominence given to four key relationships and their connections with each other and their context. It provided valuable new insights into the relationships in Nanjing between culture and tourism policies and between relevant government departments, between the public and private sectors, between the production and consumption of cultural tourism, and between the encoding and decoding of related messages. These relationships had to be seen as reflecting and affecting China's distinctive political, economic and socio-cultural context. Conclusions are also drawn about the wider applicability and value of the model for researchers interested in cultural tourism in other urban contexts.

Abstract:
This dissertation proposes a computational data-driven methodology to measure music ensemble interdependence - the degree to which musicians interact and influence each other’s actions in order to achieve a shared goal - using a string quartet ensemble as a case study. Combining elements from multiple disciplines, this methodology involves the acquisition of multimodal performance data under experimental conditions, the extraction of numerical features that describe the performance in terms of distinct musical dimensions (intonation, dynamics, timbre, timing), the computational estimation of interdependence for each performance dimension individually, and the assessment of the capability of listeners to perceive interdependence. Our results show that it is possible to detect interdependence in string quartet performance in different performance dimensions, as well as to compare its relative amount across different recordings and relate the results to the underlying goal of the score. The experimental data have been published online as an open research dataset.

Abstract:
The study covers oil and the power it entails and focuses on oil interdependence, oil-related conflicts and crises and macroeconomic effects. This thesis aims to examine the global oil industry's trade structure, to clarify the international geopolitical situation in the oil industry, and to analyze the effects of fluctuations in price on a macroeconomic level. The research has an explorative but also descriptive nature and can be classified as a correlational study. The thesis is mainly based on qualitative references obtained from interviews supplemented with quantitative data. The majority of conflicts in the Middle East can be classified as oil related, with a major impact on oil prices as a result. Oil price fluctuations correlate with and influence the macroeconomic situation in different countries, and the degree of the correlation varies due to the extent certain countries depend on oil. Interdependence is thus a significant factor in economic and geopolitical development. The study contributes to a deeper understanding and a more profound knowledge regarding global impact due to oil interdependence. This thesis indicates that the integration of oil in today’s society increases the world’s vulnerability to changes in the oil industry and therefore, oil contributes to power.
