Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the main factors predicting the Jordanian customers’ intention and adoption of telebanking. Design/methodology/approach – Perceived usefulness, trust, and self-efficacy are all formulated over the proposed conceptual model as key factors determining behavioural intention while the adoption of telebanking is supposed to be predicted by both behavioural intention and perceived usefulness. A self-administered questionnaire was allocated to gather the empirical data from a convenience sample of Jordanian banking customers. Structural equation modelling was applied to validate the conceptual model and verify the research hypotheses. Findings – Statistical results largely support the predictive validity of the conceptual model which is able to account for 68 per cent of variance in behavioural intention. Additionally, perceived usefulness, trust, and self-efficacy (listed in order of their influence) are all found to be significant factors predicting behavioural intention. Behavioural intention and perceived usefulness were also confirmed to have significant influence on the adoption behaviour. Research limitations/implications – The data for the current study were obtained by using a convenience sample of Jordanian banking customers; this could negatively reflect on the result generalisability. In addition, this study fully focused on the customers’ perspective; yet, it has not looked at this problem from the service providers’ perspective. Therefore, future studies should look at this challenge from the service providers’ perspective. Originality/value – This study was able to comprise a fundamental contribution by examining the telebanking as a more novel technology in Jordan, which has not been examined yet. Accordingly, the current study has successfully formulated a deep view regarding the most important aspects predicting the Jordanian customers’ intentions towards such an emerging system. This also helps to provide practical guidelines for banks to choose a suitable marketing strategy that could enhance the customers’ adoption of telebanking.

Abstract:
Purpose With a high rate of mobile technology ownership in the home, it is unknown how parents’ behavioral intention influences mobile technology adoption and children’s informal use to support reading. The purpose of this paper is to identify 120 parents’ intentions to adopt mobile technology and gather in-depth perceptions about mobile technology adoption with a smaller subset of 13 parents. Design/methodology/approach The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology adoption model and the ecological systems theory help explain the interconnections of the child’s home and school on mobile technology intentions and use behavior. A mixed-method explanatory research design obtained behavioral intention scores from a parent survey and individual interviews explained intention scores and depth of perceptions. Findings Parents’ behavioral intention scores show, on average, parents agree with using mobile technology to help their child read in the home. Behavioral intention concerns are influenced by children’s individual experience with technology: reluctant users prioritize media-safe education; indifferent users perceive technology as entertainment and desire a balance of text mediums; eager users are influenced socially and recognize interactive and individual affordances when reading with technology. Research limitations/implications Knowing that parents’ behavioral intentions vary based on their individual concerns, transparency between parents and teachers about parents’ concerns and children’s mobile technology use in the home can strengthen children’s mobile learning opportunities between home and school. Originality/value Data were collected from 46 classrooms between two K-5 elementary schools in the southeastern USA, which offers a unique glimpse into technology adoption behavior in two different communities.

Abstract:
We consider the potential for inspirational media content (inspiring videos about dogs) and injunctive norms (social media comments on the videos) to motivate dog adoption behaviors and intentions. In an online experiment, participants were exposed to pretested inspiring (or non-inspiring) videos and social norms cues and were given an opportunity to browse among a series of dogs on a mock adoption website. Participants also indicated their intention to adopt a dog and completed a series of socio-demographic measures. Results indicated that, although both the inspiring videos and the norm cues successfully induced inspiration and perceived injunctive norms, only injunctive norms significantly affected intention to adopt. The effect of norms remained significant when controlling for barriers to adoption such as financial, time, and space considerations. Discussion focuses on implications for inspiring entertainment and social norms theories, and implications for adoptions and other prosocial behaviors.

Abstract:
Purpose In light of the important roles of organizational culture and leadership style in IT-adoption intention and knowledge-sharing intention, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationships among IT involvement, IT-adoption intention, and knowledge-sharing intention, as well as the moderating effects of organizational culture and leadership style on IT-adoption intention and knowledge-sharing intention. Design/methodology/approach This study begins with a literature review followed by the use of a questionnaire method and statistical analytical techniques (hierarchical regression analysis) to investigate the relationships among IT involvement, IT-adoption intention, knowledge-sharing intention, organizational culture, and leadership style. Findings The result showed that IT involvement has a significant and positive influence on IT-adoption intention, which further affects the knowledge-sharing intention. Moreover, organizational culture and leadership style have moderating effects on the IT adoption and knowledge-sharing intention. Research limitations/implications This research applied a purposive sampling method and obtained a slightly inadequate number of respondents. Therefore, it is suggested that future research should apply random sampling method to collect more responses and increase the generalizability of the findings. Practical implications This research suggests that organizations which adopt servant leadership or charismatic leadership, as well as organizations with clan or hierarchy cultures should work on enhancing staff’s knowledge-sharing intention by first raising their IT-adoption intention. Originality/value If an enterprise would like to encourage its staff to be more proactive at adopting IT and more willing to share knowledge, then it should first examine its current leadership style and organizational culture in order to propose concrete and effective methods to achieve this, and at the same time, this can help stimulate organizational learning and generate new ideas and knowledge.

Abstract:
This study was aim to understand the influence of adoption factors on the intention of adopting an innovation (Halal Logistics) among Malaysian Halal SMEs. This research employed a quantitative research design using survey research method. Four objectives were established. The first is to formulate a model that identifies the influence of adoption factors on innovation (Halal Logistics) adoption intention among Malaysian Halal SMEs. This was achieved through literature reviews and preliminary study. Five halal compliant logistics service providers (LSPs) were contacted through phone and email correspondences. Seven research hypotheses were derived and seven factors that influenced the innovation (Halal Logistics) adoption intention were identified: the presence of familiarity with innovation, status characteristics, position in social network as internal factors as well as benefit, geographical setting, societal culture and political condition as external factors. The second objective is to develop an instrument that can be used to measure the influence of adoption factors on adoption intention among Halal SMEs.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of different information sources on consumer health behavior during pandemics. Design/methodology/approach – We collected survey data from 321 adults in a large western US city during November 2009 by mall and street intercepts. We analyzed their beliefs, attitudes and intentions with regard to adoption of the H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine. We developed and tested two alternative models on the role of mass media and personal information sources on the attitude towards the disease and the intention to get vaccinated. Findings – Our study finds that mass media and personal sources of information simultaneously impact perceived threat from disease (attitude) and the intention to get vaccinated during a global pandemic. Personal information sources are more effective than mass media sources in impacting both attitude and intention. While the impact of mass media weakens from the attitude stage to the intention stage, the impact of personal information sources increases from the attitude stage to the intention stage. Originality/value – The contribution of this paper to health policy makers and marketers is to draw implications on how mass media and personal information sources could be better utilized to counter future global pandemics.

Abstract:
Non-compliance and weak tax collections led to the initiation of e-tax filing, an emerging e-government service in Bangladesh. While e-tax services are convenient and make filing tax returns easy within a few mouse clicks, there can be risks that may obstruct taxpayers from using this service. Besides, quality dimensions of such services are equally important since online services are completely different from the physical service industry. With the aim of identifying factors and dimensions that can influence a taxpayer's intention in Bangladesh, this study extends Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to include perceived risk facets and service quality factors associated with e-Tax services. Findings claim that three risk dimensions - financial, cyber, and time risk may influence taxpayers' intention towards e-tax services. Besides, perceived risk is inversely related to perceived usefulness and only perceived ease of use denotes significant impact upon taxpayers' behavioral intentions. Implications, limitations and future directions are accordingly discussed as well.

Humbani, Michael. "Consumers' adoption and continuance intention to use mobile payment services." Thesis, University of Pretoria, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/65526.

Full text
Abstract:
The African continent continues to register an increase in the uptake of smartphones and other personal digital assistants, all of which are capable of making mobile payments. Consequently, mobile payment service providers continue to hold optimistic views about the future of mobile payments. Despite the proliferation of smartphone adoption in African countries, little is known about the factors that influence the adoption and continued use of the novel technology such as mobile payment services, particularly in developing countries such as South Africa. Although there are growing research streams in this regard, there have been conflicting reports, inconsistencies and contradictions in previous research findings that need to be explained. In particular, there is growing research examining factors that predict the adoption and continuance intention to use new technologies such as mobile payment services. These studies are predominantly Western-based. Not much research has been extended to the African continent to determine how generalisable the results are to a wider context. Due to cultural, social and economic differences, Western theories may not be equally applicable in developing countries. This calls for more research to validate and continuously update and streamline Western theories in developing countries. The primary purpose of this study is to determine the predictors of the adoption and continuance intention to use mobile payment services. The study uses a three-step approach. First, the study tests the ability of the modified technology readiness index (TRI) to predict adoption, and also tests the moderating effect of gender on the predictors of the adoption of mobile payment services. Second, the study tests the applicability and ability of the extended expectation-confirmation model, in the context of information technology (E-ECM-IT), to predict continuance intention to use mobile payment services. The moderating effect of gender on the predictors of continuance intention is also examined. After the validation of the two models, a synthesised model of the TRI and the E-ECM-IT is proposed to predict both adoption and continuance intention in a single study – a novel perspective not covered in depth thus far in existing research. Data were collected from a convenience sample by using an online South African consumer panel of an international research firm that was contracted to collect data for analysis. A total of 416 respondents were sampled, comprising consumers aged 18 years and older who owned a credit card and who had downloaded a mobile payment application (‘app’) at the time of the survey. The sampling units were taken from all nine provinces of South Africa. A self-administered online questionnaire with seven-point Likert scales was used to obtain information pertaining to their adoption and continuance intention to use mobile payment services. First, the study used multiple regression analysis to test the hypotheses set to measure adoption of mobile payment services, grounded in the modified TRI, and to examine the moderating effect of gender on the predictors. Second, a partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) approach was employed to predict continuance intention, in which the moderating effect of gender was also examined. Third, a structural equation modelling (SEM) was employed to validate the proposed integrated model, measuring both adoption and continuance intention. This study found the main adoption drivers to be convenience and compatibility. The key barriers to adoption include insecurity, perceived cost, and perceived risk. Contrary to previous reports, this study found that optimism, innovativeness and discomfort are not significant predictors of the adoption of mobile payment services. The results of the regression analysis show that the drivers of mobile payment services are more important to consumers than inhibitors in influencing adoption. It is therefore recommended that service providers focus more on the convenience and compatibility of mobile payments to enhance adoption levels. Of the eight predictors tested in this study, the results reveal that gender only moderates the effect of convenience on the adoption of mobile payment services. With regard to continuance intention, the majority of the hypothesised paths were confirmed except one: the relationship between perceived ease of use and continuance intention. Although not expected in this study, this result corroborates findings of other previous studies in the literature that suggest that the impact of ease of use on continuance intention to use any new technology is lessened as users gain more experience in using that technology. The results suggest that the expectation confirmation model in the context of information technology (ECM-IT) could be an alternative model to the E-ECM-IT to predict continuance. This is because the ECM-IT does not include perceived ease of use as a post-adoption antecedent to predict continuance intention. Thus, the results underscore the importance of re-testing and validating Western models in the African context. Satisfaction remains the most significant predictor of continuance intention. Therefore, service providers must focus more on customer satisfaction by avoiding transaction and billing errors or security breaches, among other factors, to enhance continued use. The moderating effect of gender on predictors of continuance intention was also examined, and results show that gender does not play a significant moderating role.

Full text
Abstract:
IoT is a technology where different devices are equipped with internet connection which makes it possible to control them and exchange data over internet. IoT can be thought of as an umbrella term covering a broad and ever-growing range of services and technologies. One of the segments within IoT is the smart home ecosystem. The tremendous development the last decade within smartphones, wearable devices and broadband has created new ways to connect individual devices in the home (Qasim and Abu-Shanab, 2016; Jeong et al, 2016; Wilson et al, 2017; Hubert et al, 2017). This creates a synergy effect; by connecting multiple devices to a system new value is created. Energy, home controls, security, communication and entertainment services are all included in the smart home (Miller, 2015; Wilson et al, 2017). Even though the concept of smart homes has a large potential it seems like it has not reached its full potential and the diffusion of the innovation among the consumers is still at an early stage (Balta-Ozkan et.al, 2013; Yang et.al 2017). So far, many studies have been performed on the technical aspects of IoT and smart home ecosystems but less attention has been paid on the consumer point of view and what determinants that play a role in the intention to adopt the technology (Yang, Lee, and Zo. 2017). In addition, previous studies have mainly focused of one single device and has not considered the entire ecosystem (Yang, Lee, and Zo. 2017). Therefore, the purpose with this thesis is to study what are the key determinants for the intention to adopt smart homes from an ecosystem point of view. To fulfill the purpose known theoretical models regarding intention to adopt technology have been used to develop a research model. The basis to establish the research model has been the theory of innovation adoption, TRA, TPB, TAM, VAM and UTAUT. Based on the literature four determinants were selected to be included in the model; these were cost, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness and individualization. The first three are all included in the mentioned theoretical models and have previously been proven to be important for intention to adopt. The last one, individualization is derived from the field of product differentiation. In the literature it is mentioned that the possibility to refine, adjust and modify may be crucial for the user (Dodgson et.al. 2008). With this background it was interested to include individualization as a determinant in the research model and study how it impacts intention to adopt. In addition to the determinants one moderator was included; the composition of the household. In order to collect the empirical data a survey was conducted using the snowball sampling approach via Facebook and LinkedIn. The survey consisted of two sections where the first section aimed to collect background information about the respondent and the second section consisted of questions regarding the determinants. In the second section the respondents were asked to respond according to a 5-point Likert scale. The used questions in the survey was predefined in the literature. Study results show that consumers’ use intention is shaped by individualization, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. Cost was found not to be statistically significant. Neither was the composition of the household.

Abstract:
Title:                     Factors of online movie services that influence the intention of Swedish people to adopt it. Background:      Currently there are very few providers of online movie services.  There are no established or well known companies that provide such a service in Sweden.  One thought is that this may be a reason why the illegal download and piracy industry is still rife in Sweden.  With this in mind, it is the authors’ aim to discover what factors influence the intention of Swedish people to adopt an online movie service.    Theory:                The conceptual framework used in this report is based on the Theory of Planned Behavior. After a critical literature review, this theory was adapted and other variables were added in order to create the most suitable conceptual framework for this research. Method:             This descriptive research was done with quantitative approach. The primary data was collected from Swedish people by a questionnaire in Swedish and it was distributed to them via online and in person. Conclusion:       There are several important factors for online movie services that influence the intention of Swedish people to adopt it. First, the subjective norm is one of the most important factors. A person is influenced by other people close to him/her and if those other people are positive about watching movies online, he/she is more likely to adopt the service. The second factor is the current way of watching movies. When people watch movies on the computer, laptop or via DVD, they are more likely to adopt the service, but it is the other way round for people who often watch movies on their TV. The third relevant factor that influences the intention to adopt is price consciousness. People are variously divided on this issue; some are willing to pay, whilst others rather want to watch free movies with commercials. However, most of the people do not want to pay to watch movie online and they look for the cheapest option. Finally, the attitude toward the service, a positive attitude is determined mostly by the relative advantages and the low complexity of the online movie services. People who think that online movies have advantages and it is not complicated are likely to adopt the services. Furthermore women are more likely to adopt than men and people older than 45 are not very likely to adopt the services.

Alharbi, Nawaf Sulaiman S. "The role of security and its antecedents in e-government adoption." Thesis, University of Plymouth, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10026.1/6703.

Abstract:
The use of e-government has increased in recent years, and many countries now use it to provide high quality services to their citizens. As user acceptance is crucial for the success of any IT project, a number of studies have investigated the user acceptance of e-government via the use of adoption models, such as the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model. However, these models do not pay sufficient attention to security. The lack of security is one of the key issues associated with the adoption of e-government. Thus, this study aims at investigating the role of security in the behaviour intention for using e-government services. In addition, this study seeks to determine the factors influencing end users’ perceptions in e-government security. Therefore, in mind of achieving the aim, the research followed a mixed-methods approach, which divided the research into two phases. The first phase is a qualitative study aiming at exploring the factors influencing end users’ perceptions in e-government security. The second phase is a quantitative study aiming at identifying the role of security and its antecedences in the behaviour intention for using e-government services. To achieve this goal, a research model was developed by integrating trust, security and privacy with the UTAUT2 and tested via Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The findings show that user interface quality, security culture and cyber-security law positively affect security perception. These factors explain 54% of security perception variance and strongly influence trust in e-government services. The findings also show that trust is ranked as the third most critical factor affecting behaviour intention after performance expectance and habit. The results make a significant contribution to academic research as this research is the first that investigated the factors that influence the security perception in e-government services. This will provide opportunities for further research to investigate further contributing factors and validate the security antecedences explored in this study. This research has practical implications regarding understanding the role of security in e-government adoption and the factors affecting end users’ perceptions of e-government security. This will help the decision makers in government to increase users’ trust in e-government by focusing more on these factors.

Abstract:
The purpose of the current research is to investigate the influence of behavior and affect on the continuance intention of an information technology, the Mobile Internet. A conceptual model, based on a literature review (including the models TAM and ECM) and a qualitative research, is proposed. This post-adoption model examines the impact of the actual behavior (usage and satisfaction) on future responses (continuance intention). Usage and satisfaction are influenced by Mobile Internet post-adoption beliefs (usefulness, ease of use, enjoyment, value and quality). A number of moderating variables are included (gender, age and past experience). Data collection was performed using a web questionnaire. Data analysis by structural equation has empirically validated eleven research hypotheses derived from this model. The results suggest that mobile Internet continuance intention is determined by usage and satisfaction. User satisfaction, in turn, is influenced by ease of use, enjoyment and quality while usage is determined by usefulness, ease of use, enjoyment and value. Theoretical and managerial implications of the results are discussed. Finally, suggestions concerning future research about Mobile Internet are presented

Abstract:
The demand and consumption of the earth's natural resources is constantly increasing (Lieder & Rashid 2016). In combination with a consumption pattern that is characterized by a “take-make-waste” mentality we face anticipated consequences (Belk 2014a). As a response, a new set of business models has begun to get attention. One of these more circular models is collaborative consumption which includes short-term renting (Armstrong & Park 2019a). By sharing resources during a short period, the consumers are able to experience monetary-, utilitarian- and environmental benefits without owning the product (Barhdi & Eckhardt 2012; Griffiths & Hwang 2017; Martin 2016). But is ownership a friend or foe in regards to more sustainable consumption patterns? The purpose of this study is to observe how ownership affects the adoption of short-term renting and further to observe if different product categories are affected differently. By conducting a quantitative online survey, the result shows that there is a tendency for ownership to affect the adoption of short-term renting in the observed categories. Furthermore, there is an indication that furniture along with clothing might not be suitable for short-term renting whilst accommodation, and for some part electronics, might be more suitable due to the degree that ownership affects the intention for adoption.

Abstract:

The respondents can be classified into 3 groups as follows,

users 47%, non users 37%, non awareness customers 16%.

We found that the group of users perceived more positive

toward Bualuang ibanking than the group of non users in four

aspects, relatively advantage, complexity, compability and

observability, while, trialability was not perceived as a

significant attribute facilitating the use of Bualuang ibanking.

However, in some circumstances, such as, time processing,

mental effort, frustrating, privacy and security, the attitude

toward these circumstances is positive but not divergent

between these two groups. For the non awareness customers,

there are 58% of them preferred adopting this technology in

the future and the most frequently selective duration that they

will adopt this technology is within one month.

Abstract:
In spite of the purported positive environmental consequences of electrifying the light duty vehicle fleet, the number of electric vehicles (EVs) in use is still insignificant. One reason for the modest adoption figures is that the mass acceptance of EVs to a large extent is reliant on consumers’ perception of EVs. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the drivers for and barriers against consumer adoption of plug-in EVs, as well as an overview of the theoretical perspectives that have been utilized for understanding consumer intentions and adoption behavior towards EVs. In addition, we identify gaps and limitations in existing research and suggest areas in which future research would be able to contribute.

Abstract:
Poetry as a "philosophical frontier" is the concept focused in this book on the poetry of Paul Celan. It is not precipitate to consider that the peculiarity of Celan's poetry and its reception lies in the persistent and ongoing interest displayed by philosophical criticism. Adopting an inclusive formula that goes beyond the mere notion of a "philosophical space", Massimo Baldi and Fabrizio Desideri aim to bring together readings and interpretative theories that are significantly diverse, albeit marked by the common intention of focusing the radical singularity of Celan's writing. All the essays presented here effectively reveal an attention to that engagement inherent in the letter of the poetic dictate, in the pungency of its inscription, which we must respect and listen to if we wish to understand Celan.

Abstract:
We approach the problem of the extended mind from a radically non-dualist perspective. The separation between mind and matter is an artifact of the mechanistic worldview, which leaves no room for mental phenomena such as agency, intentionality, or experience. We propose to replace it by an action ontology, which conceives mind and matter as aspects of the same network of processes. By adopting the intentional stance, we interpret the catalysts of elementary reactions as agents exhibiting desires, intentions, and sensations. Autopoietic networks of reactions constitute more complex super-agents, which exhibit memory, deliberation and sense-making. In the case of social networks, individual agents coordinate their actions via the propagation of challenges. The distributed cognition that emerges cannot be situated in any individual brain. This non-dualist, holistic view extends and operationalizes process metaphysics and Eastern philosophies. It is supported by both mindfulness experiences and mathematical models of action, self-organization, and cognition.

Abstract:
This chapter addresses two common beliefs: (1) that the Canadian Constitution is a living tree, subject to evolution in light of changing circumstances and developing moral and political beliefs; and (2) that the view expressed in (1) stands in sharp contrast with American-style originalism, a family of theories according to which, absent formal amendment, the meaning of a constitution is the meaning it had at the time of its adoption. This chapter elaborates on (1) and challenges (2), highlighting both (3) the extent to which Canadian courts view their evolving constitution as nevertheless rooted in original understandings, intentions and purposes; and (4) the fact that many contemporary originalists embrace a moderate version of their theory that allows for a healthy degree of evolution via the process contemporary originalists call constitutional construction.

Abstract:
Chapter 3 offers an ethnography of silence, seclusion, and hospitality, showing how monastics and non-monastics alike worked to balance the apparent contradictions of these Benedictine tenets. Ethnographic sketches illustrate how monastic silence and seclusion can have a porous, welcoming quality, yet at the same time can shelter a serious, disciplined alternative way of life. The chapter describes varieties of monastic and non-monastic silence, including contemplatives’ cultivation of a “silence of being,” which is not dependent on a lack of sound, and the exclusivity that can occasionally rise in non-monastic contemplative circles. Further, the chapter shows some of the difficulties new practitioners have in adopting a practice of silence and contrasts the positive intention of contemplative silence with other forms of silence that serve to disempower particular sectors of society.

Abstract:
This chapter explores team innovation in the context of healthcare by integrating literature and empirical evidence from the organizational, social, and medical sciences on team innovation. Innovation encompasses the activities that transform the intentional decision to adopt and implement a new idea, process, product, or procedure into regular and sustained practice. The healthcare industry needs innovation to adapt to and manage complexity within a rapidly changing healthcare system. Interdisciplinary teams have been adopted as innovations to solve certain problems in healthcare that require coordinated interdependent action and complementary knowledge and skills, such as chronic conditions and disease management, patient safety concerns, and cancer treatment and care. Teams may also be employed to manage healthcare innovation adoption and implementation efforts, and the industry must leverage team composition and team process factors to help these healthcare teams innovate.

Abstract:
This chapter addresses how the continuity of individual and communal religious identity can be preserved in a modern context characterized by a rapid rise in religious diversity and a concomitant decline in traditional religious association. The chapter discusses various postures that religious communities can take in such a context. The authors advocate an intentional and engaged religious pluralism, achieved through “interfaith education.” This concept is defined and parsed into three activities in which religious communities should engage: developing a theology of interfaith cooperation, nurturing appreciative knowledge of shared values, and engaging in relationship-building activities. The chapter concludes with a brief consideration of how North American seminaries have been on the vanguard of adopting interfaith—sometimes referred to as multifaith or inter-religious—education.

Abstract:
After decades of reform, America's public schools continue to fail particular groups of students; the greatest opportunity gaps are faced by those whose achievement is hindered by complex stressors, including disability, trauma, poverty, and institutionalized racism. When students' needs overwhelm the neighborhood schools assigned to serve them, they are relegated to increasingly isolated educational environments. Unconditional Education (UE) offers an alternate approach that transforms schools into communities where all students can thrive. It reduces the need for more intensive and costly future remediation by pairing a holistic, multi-tiered system of supports with an intentional focus on overall culture and climate, and promotes systematic coordination and integration of funding and services by identifying gaps and eliminating redundancies to increase the efficient allocation of available resources. This book is an essential resource for mental health and educational stakeholders (i.e., school social workers, therapists, teachers, school administrators, and district-level leaders) who are interested in adopting an unconditional approach to supporting the students within their schools.

Abstract:
Smart thermostats represent an innovative smart home technology and a growing commercial opportunity, yet little is known about the salient factors that affect the adoption of such devices. To address this gap in research, we conduct a three-stage study that progresses through belief elicitation, exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factory analysis within a nomological network. We leverage the mixed methods approach to explore the factorial structure of salient perceived benefits and concerns associated with smart thermostats, and we examine the effects of the emergent factors on the adoption intention. We discover that a novel factor, which we term techno-coolness, is the key predictor of the smart thermostat adoption intention. Techno-coolness encompasses the perceptions that a smart thermostat can make a home look modern and futuristic, be fun to use, and make the user feel technologically advanced. We also find that compatibility concerns as well as privacy concerns are significant impediments to the smart thermostat adoption intention.

Abstract:
This research empirically investigates the need for, and the effective design and content of, a proposed mobile application that is targeted at pedestrians and cyclists in Fresno County. The differential effect of the proposed mobile app name and colors on the target audience opinions was examined. Further, app content and features were evaluated for importance and the likelihood of use. This included design appeal, attractiveness, relevance, ease of navigation, usefulness of functions, personalization and customization, message recipients’ attitudes towards message framing, and intended behaviors related to pedestrian, cyclist, and motorist traffic safety practices. Design mobile application features tested included image aesthetics, coherence and organization, and memorability and distinction. Potential engagement with the mobile app was assessed via measuring the users’ perceived enjoyment while using the app. The behavioral intentions to adopt the app and likelihood to recommend the app were assessed. The willingness to pay for purchasing the app was measured. This research provided evidence that a mobile application designed for pedestrians and cyclists is needed, with high intentions for its adoption. Functions, such as Safety Information, Weather Conditions, Guide to Trails, Events for Walkers and Bikers, and Promotional Offers are deemed important by the target population. This research was conducted in an effort to increase active transportation mode utilization and to enhance the safety of vulnerable road users. The public, city administrators, transportation authorities, and policy makers shall benefit from the results of this study by adapting the design and the features that are proposed in this research and were found appealing and useful for the target vulnerable road user groups. The need of the proposed mobile application and its main functions are established, based on the results of this research, which propagates further steps of implementation by city administrators and transportation authorities.
