Carpenter, Chris. "Fully Automated Directional Drilling Used on the Norwegian Continental Shelf." Journal of Petroleum Technology 74, no. 10 (October 1, 2022): 74–76. http://dx.doi.org/10.2118/1022-0074-jpt.

Abstract:
_ This article, written by JPT Technology Editor Chris Carpenter, contains highlights of paper SPE 204016, “Fully Automated Directional Drilling Is Now a Reality: An Example From the Norwegian Continental Shelf,” by Jorge Heredia, SPE, Julien Marck, SPE, and Sara Heller, Halliburton, et al. The paper has not been peer reviewed. _ This paper presents an automated directional-drilling process executed on a commercial well in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, where an intelligent rotary-steerable system (RSS) completed a well section in a single run with all drilling commands automatically computed, optimized, and downlinked by a drilling-automation platform. The section was complex, consisting of two intervals requiring steering in three dimensions separated by a tangent section. Directional-drilling engineers onshore supervised the operation remotely. No override was required, and the automated system was able to drill the entire section while sending steering decisions automatically. Advances in Drilling Automation Two primary automation controllers that were used in recent steering-automation successes on the Norwegian Continental Shelf are discussed in the complete paper. Recent advancements in RSS technologies use downhole sensors, high-speed processors, and survey packages to provide the backbone for an autonomous downhole navigation system. This type of development enables an automated closed-loop attitude-hold feature. Once configured, the only required downlinks correct trajectory, therefore reducing the total number of downlinks required to steer per section and creating a consistent wellbore quality between wells. This system was applied during the tangent portion of the well discussed in the complete paper. A second development is that of steering automation and advisory systems for deviated steering applications. These systems respond to real-time information from surface systems, including continuous inclination and azimuth measurements from downhole sensors and surface-drilling parameters. The real-time information then is fused with a physics-based digital twin model of the bottomhole assembly (BHA) to produce a calibrated steering model. Based on this hybrid model, the system combines control and optimization algorithms to reconstruct the borehole geometry between the last-available survey and the borehole depth and then provide recommendations for steering magnitudes and direction to meet drilling objectives while accounting for safety margins and drilling constraints. Benefits of the advisory system include reducing human error by removing unnecessary intervention, and automating calculations based off continuous real-time sensor information as opposed to the conventional method of requiring manual interpretation of data. The presented results illustrate the effect of these integrated systems on the improvement of borehole quality and placement and how the controller overcomes typical field situations successfully, such as challenging formations and wellbore conditions and changes in targets and steering objectives. The drilling-automation platform allows the directional-drilling operator to remain onshore in a remote drilling center as opposed to being on the offshore platform. Previous challenges and risks associated with holding operations remotely are being left behind as Internet bandwidth increases and no requirement exists to rely simply on phone and email correspondence; instead, onshore operators can view computers and cameras located at the rigsite in real time.

Abstract:
United States (U.S.) civilian and military intelligence services increasingly have engaged with local intelligence services, either in an advisory role or direct coordination or liaison. In many cases, the intelligence officers have tended to try to remake the local intelligence services in the image of U.S. intelligence structures and procedures, with these efforts rather futile in most cases. One factor that has led to considerable frustration and potential failure has been a lack of understanding of the culture of local intelligence systems. Understanding both the subtleties of an area’s social norms and mores, and the bureaucratic and historical cultures of other intelligence services remain critical factors in long-term success. Using case studies of environments in which established intelligence services have worked with emergent intelligence agencies, this paper examines the requirements for incorporating both larger cultural approaches and detailed knowledge of other intelligence bureaucracies.

Machine learning algorithms are extensively used in healthcare analytics to learn normal and abnormal patterns automatically. The detection and prediction accuracy of any machine learning model depends on many factors like ground truth instances, attribute relationships, model design, the size of the dataset, the percentage of uncertainty, the training and testing environment, etc. Prediction models in healthcare should generate a minimal false positive and false negative rate. To accomplish high classification or prediction accuracy, the screening of health status needs to be personalized rather than following general clinical practice guidelines (CPG) which fits for an average population. Hence, a personalized screening model (IPAD – Intelligent Personalized Abnormality Detection) for remote healthcare is proposed that tailored to specific individual. The severity level of the abnormal status has been derived using personalized health values and the IPAD model obtains an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.907.

Abstract:
Variable speed limits (VSLs) as a mean for enhancing road traffic safety are studied for decades to modify the speed limit based on the prevailing road circumstances. In this study the pros and cons of VSL systems and their effects on traffic controlling efficiency are summarized. Despite the potential effectiveness of utilizing VSLs, we have witnessed that the effectiveness of this system is impacted by factors such as VSL control strategy used and the level of driver compliance. Hence, the proposed approach called Intelligent Advisory Speed Limit Dedication (IASLD) as the novel VSL control strategy which considers the driver compliance aims to improve the traffic flow and occupancy of vehicles in addition to amelioration of vehicle’s travel times. The IASLD provides the advisory speed limit for each vehicle exclusively based on the vehicle’s characteristics including the vehicle type, size, and safety capabilities as well as traffic and weather conditions. The proposed approach takes advantage of vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) to accelerate its performance, in the way that simulation results demonstrate the reduction of incident detection time up to 31.2% in comparison with traditional VSL strategy. The simulation results similarly indicate the improvement of traffic flow efficiency, occupancy, and travel time in different conditions.

Abstract:
HBase and Cassandra are two most commonly used large-scale distributed NoSQL database management systems; especially applicable to a large amount of data processing. Regarding remote data backup, each kind of datacenter has its own backup strategy to prevent the risks of data loss. With Thrift Java, this paper aims to implement in-cloud high efficient remote datacenter backup applied to in-cloud NoSQL databases like HBase and Cassandra. The binary communications protocol technology from Apache Thrift is employed to establish the graphical user interface instead of the command line interface so as to ease data manipulation. In order to control the network traffic flow smoothly, intelligent adaptation using ANFIS and PSO is employed to tune the parameters of NoSQL databases during the remote data backup to improve QoS in the network. The stress test has taken on strictly data reading/writing and remote backup of a huge amount of data to verify the effectiveness. Finally, the performance evaluation of a variety of benchmark databases has been done by performance index. As a result, the proposed HBase approach outperforms the other databases.

Abstract:
In recent years, with the progress and development of social science and technology, remote monitoring of Internet of Things systems has attracted more and more attention. The remote monitoring system is mainly a network system with convenient layout, simple maintenance, and high security performance built on the basis of the wireless network, which can realize real-time monitoring, and collects transmit information. It is mostly used in remote monitoring of room temperature, remote monitoring of intelligent furniture, engineering construction, and teaching. Communication technology dominates the operation of remote monitoring systems. With the introduction of 5G technology, mobile Internet technology has been pushed to the top of technology again. Using 5G mobile communication technology in the monitoring system, people can observe or operate the monitored things at any time. The sensor is an indispensable component of the remote monitoring system, and a new type of optical fiber is added to the sensor to make the system function more complete. However, the related technology is not very mature, and the research on remote monitoring system is relatively backward in China. Relevant studies have found that when the remaining energy of the information node in the remote monitoring system reaches 10%, the information node will die and the speed of information transmission will decrease. Therefore, adding new technologies is conducive to improving the performance of remote monitoring systems.

Abstract:
Since gateway meters cannot simultaneously realize online monitoring and remote verification, the study is aimed at exploring the intelligent online monitoring and remote verification of the gateway meter. First, the similarity and related evaluation indexes of embedded sensors are analyzed based on the relevant theories, like the theories of the embedded sensor and clustering algorithm. Second, the gateway meter is tested on the standard vibration test bed, and the accuracy, timeliness, and environmental adaptability of its intelligent online system are tested. Finally, the remote verification of the gateway meter is carried out from three aspects: the error/load value, secondary voltage drop, and the admittance test. The results show that when the intelligent online monitoring ability of the gateway meter is tested on the standard vibration test bed, the error of the same pilot is controlled between 0.1 mm after multiple peak tests, and the error is within the allowable range. In the intelligent online monitoring system based on the embedded sensor and clustering algorithm, the vibration acceleration is -0.6 cm/s~0.3 cm/s, the speed is -1 cm/s~1 cm/s, and the displacement fluctuates between -0.8 cm/s~0.8 cm/s. This shows that the intelligent online monitoring system can meet the performance requirements of online monitoring. In the process of remote verification of gateway meters, the active error and reactive error are 0.2% mm. The results of the secondary voltage drop and the admittance test show that the relevant technical indexes of the system meet the expected requirements. Therefore, the intelligent online monitoring and remote verification of gateway meters are discussed based on the embedded sensor and clustering algorithm, which provides a reference for the rapid development of gateway meters.

Abstract:
Electronic visual display enabled by touchscreen technologies evolves as one of the universal multimedia output methods and a popular input intermediate with touch–interaction. As a result, we can always gain access of an intelligent machine by obtaining control of its display contents. Since remote screen sharing systems are also increasingly prevalent, we propose a cross-platform middleware infrastructure which supports remote monitoring and control functionalities based on remote streaming for networked intelligent devices such as smart phone, computer and smart watch, etc. and home appliances such as smart refrigerator, smart air-conditioner and smart TV, etc. We aim to connect all these devices with display screens, so as to make possible remote monitoring and controlling a certain device by whichever one (usually the nearest one) of display screens among the network. The system is a distributed network consisting of multiple modular nodes of server and client, and is compatible to prevalent operating systems such as Windows, macOS, Unix-like/Linux and Android, etc.

Abstract:
Low latency video transmission is gaining importance in time-critical applications using real-time cloud-based systems. Cloud-based Virtual Reality (VR), remote control, and AI response systems are emerging use cases that demand low latency and good reliability. Although there are many video transmission schemes that claim low latency, they vary over different network conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to develop methods that can accurately measure end-to-end latency online, continuously, without any content modification. This research brings these applications one step closer to addressing these next generation use cases. This paper analyzes the cause of end-to-end latency within a video transmission system, and then proposes three methods to measure the latency: timecode, remote online, and lossless remote video online. The corresponding equipment was designed and implemented. The actual measurement of the three methods using related equipment proved that our proposed method can accurately and effectively measure the end-to-end latency of the video transmission system.

Abstract:
Environments equipped with intelligent sensors can be of much help if they can recognize the actions or activities of their users. If this activity recognition is done automatically, it can be very useful for different tasks such as future action prediction, remote health monitoring, or interventions. Although there are several approaches for recognizing activities, most of them do not consider the changes in how a human performs a specific activity. We present an automated approach to recognize daily activities from the sensor readings of an intelligent home environment. However, as the way to perform an activity is usually not fixed but it changes and evolves, we propose an activity recognition method based on Evolving Fuzzy Systems.

Abstract:
For the second year around the world the impact of the coronavirus disease COVID-19 has been taking place. And, therefore, the modern world today is in a critical situation in the fight against a pandemic, where humanity is competing for its natural survival and has embraced the whole world, which greatly influenced the economic, social, and political aspects. The forecasts of specialists in various spheres of social life have versatile conclusions. But technological and informational components have received new development opportunities, and here it becomes interesting to consider the moment of creating a single information space, due to the effective implementation of the latest information resources that can transform ordinary services at a qualitatively new level. This is also the issue of virtualization of individual industries with high economic potential. Also, the integration of the latest technological solutions (issues of managing business systems at enterprises, organizing workplaces, abandoning institutions with reference to a specific building, etc.). When creating a remote form, Big Data resources become relevant, analysing large amounts of data and can issue their own conclusions and plan informed proposals. The conclusions obtained based on complex analytical technological systems based on artificial intelligence can compete with experts in a particular industry. Systems with a complex hierarchical system are capable of serious forecasting, but the focus of small companies on minor tasks does not give a comprehensive result on a national scale. Scientists and specialists involved in these tasks are limited in global information, therefore, the issue of attracting cognitive dynamic systems from the point of view of effective management is an urgent issue for solving artificial intelligence problems. In the work there are links to sources, explain the presented material.

Abstract:
Abstract The product performance of excavators continuously improves with industrial development. However, unsighted improvements in the performance of excavators cannot meet the emission standards. Therefore, considerable research on energy conservation, high efficiency, and accurate control strategy should be conducted. At present, power matching research is performed because of the inconvenience of energy transmission. The technical advantages of hybrid power provide a better research direction for the energy-saving research of excavators. Intelligent control algorithms, such as sliding mode control and time-delay control, are added to the control system to improve the trajectory accuracy in excavator trajectory control. The intelligent operation of excavators reduces the requirements of the operating environment and improves operation economy in remote, complex, and dangerous operation spaces. The research statuses of excavators in power matching, hybrid control, trajectory control, and intelligent autonomous operation are reviewed. Finally, six conclusions about the current research status are drawn.

Abstract:
How to combine GIS spatial statistics technology to realize the intelligent and efficient classification of tourists’ landscape preferences is a hot spot in the direction of rural cultural tourism. Based on this, this paper studies the emotion analysis strategy based on GIS spatial statistical method in the field of landscape preference of rural cultural tourism tourists. Firstly, an intelligent and efficient classification model based on remote sensing discrete expansion algorithm is proposed. Combined with the observation strategy of common emotional rules in the landscape preference analysis of rural cultural tourism tourists, the landscape preference of rural cultural tourism tourists is processed with high quantitative emotional information, so as to realize the intelligent separation of preference, and then the error of discrete remote sensing data expansion model is corrected. Secondly, the judgment function of emotional rules is constructed, and the commonly used data layer-driven decentralized method is used in preference classification to eliminate the secondary factors in the landscape preference analysis of rural cultural tourism tourists. At the same time, the remote sensing discrete expansion algorithm is used to optimize and improve the emotional rules of high-volume emotional information based on GIS spatial statistical method. Finally, through the design of confirmatory experiments, the results show that the landscape preference analysis model based on GIS spatial statistics method and remote sensing discrete expansion algorithm is more efficient than the conventional preference classification method.
