Berry, Matthew M. "A Variable-Step Double-Integration Multi-Step Integrator." Diss., Virginia Tech, 2004. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/11155.

Full text
Abstract:
A new method of numerical integration is presented here, the variable-step Stormer-Cowell method. The method uses error control to regulate the step size, so larger step sizes can be taken when possible, and is double-integration, so only one evaluation per step is necessary when integrating second-order differential equations. The method is not variable-order, because variable-order algorithms require a second evaluation. The variable-step Stormer-Cowell method is designed for space surveillance applications, which require numerical integration methods to track orbiting objects accurately. Because of the large number of objects being processed, methods that can integrate the equations of motion as fast as possible while maintaining accuracy requirements are desired. The force model used for earth-orbiting objects is quite complex and computationally expensive, so methods that minimize the force model evaluations are needed. The new method is compared to the fixed-step Gauss-Jackson method, as well as a method of analytic step regulation (s-integration), and the variable-step variable-order Shampine-Gordon integrator. Speed and accuracy tests of these methods indicate that the new method is comparable in speed and accuracy to s-integration in most cases, though the variable-step Stormer-Cowell method has an advantage over s-integration when drag is a significant factor. The new method is faster than the Shampine-Gordon integrator, because the Shampine-Gordon integrator uses two evaluations per step, and is biased toward keeping the step size constant. Tests indicate that both the new variable-step Stormer-Cowell method and s-integration have an advantage over the fixed-step Gauss-Jackson method for orbits with eccentricities greater than 0.15.

The Purpose of this paper is to illustrate how schoollibrarians work with integration. The study is based on thefollowing questions:1. How does the school library personal look on integration?2. What does the school library personal approach say abouttheir work with integration of persons with a differentbackground then Swedish? The method I chose to study this through is severalqualitative interviews with school library personal as well asearlier related research. The theory I chose to use for this study is Hans Ingvar Rothsmodel of the integration process. The results show that the school library personal does defineintegration even if they do not work with integration rightnow. My study also shows that there are some obstacles to thiswork, which is related to the lack of funds and other issues. And that the school library personal has different view ofwhat integration is.

For the mental health professional, the client with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) can be exciting, exhausting and frustrating. Formal education offers little help in treatment and diagnosis of this disorder. This paper will explore the most utilized treatment goals available to the professional and the client. Although most "experts" in the field of Dissociative Disorders subscribe to the treatment goal of integration, this study challenges that idea. As the results of the study indicate, integration was not the most utilized goal of treatment among the participants of this study.

Woods, Megan C. "Integrating the nation: Gendering Maori urbanisation and integration, 1942-1969." Thesis, University of Canterbury. History, 2002. http://hdl.handle.net/10092/4352.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines the mid-twentieth century attempts to create integrated and therefore 'ideal' Maori citizens. These attempts, in turn, led to the re-imagining of the cities and ultimately of New Zealand as an integrated nation. In investigating the creation of integrated citizens and the integrated nation, this thesis asks four central questions: why the policies of integration and urbanisation were pursued; who pursued these policies; how these policies were implemented; and where integration occurred, examining houses/homes, hostels, and bodies as crucial sites where the policies were implemented. In answering these questions, I argue that the creation of both integrated citizens and the integrated nation were gendered processes. In particular, this thesis focuses on the role of women. Playing out stereotypically maternal roles within supposedly 'apolitical' and 'private' domestic spaces, Maori women became the target of state policy. In recognition of their importance to integration, the state aided Maori women in the establishment of their own voluntary organisation, the Maori Women's Welfare League. In addition to aiding the state, this organisation provided pivotal leadership in the urban environments. Through their organisation Maori women not only assumed leadership positions that were formerly the domain of Maori men, but also adopted many 'cultural missionary' roles formerly the domain of Pakeha women. Shifting the focus to young, single women and their bodies, I further argue that bodies and beauty became crucial to constructions of ideal citizens, and that women's bodies became emblematic of the integrated nation. Maori, however, were not simple victims of the policy of integration. Maori women, in particular, negotiated the policies and found agency. Through apparent complicity with the state, the women were able to exploit the aspects of the policy aimed at retaining aspects of Maori culture. Furthermore, urbanisation and integration are not presented as solely North Island phenomena; instead, the focus is extended to include the South Island, and in particular to the city of Christchurch.

Badley, Kenneth Rea. "Integration" and "the integration of faith and learning." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 1986. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/26769.

Full text
Abstract:
This study attempts to determine what use the term "integration" has in educational discourse, specifically as it appears in the popular phrase in Christian higher education, "the integration of faith and learning." Chapter I records that many educators see widespread disintegration in contemporary education. This perceived disintegration has led to many calls and proposals for educational integration. While educators perceive this increased need for integration, what "integration" means is less and less clear. By surveying actual usage in educational writing, this thesis distinguishes four general senses of "integration": fusion, incorporation, correlation, and dialogical (in Appendix A and Chapter III). It then explores further typical elements of meaning in educational uses of "integration" (Chapter IV). Chapters III and IV reveal and discuss a number of points of contention between educators as to the "meaning of integration." Chapter V identifies five main sources of the confusion that often accompanies uses of "integration." It is a positive term and frequently is employed primarily for its value as a slogan. Different educators give "integration" at least three different psychological meanings. The same word is used to denote both processes and end states. It is a polymorphous term whose meaning is not clear until what is being integrated is specified. It is a terra that invites conception-building, though conceptions are rarely announced as such; usually educators' visions of what ought to be come cloaked as definitions of terms. "The integration of faith and learning" suffers from every weakness that "integration" itself encounters. Its popularity in certain sectors of church education is understandable when considered in its historical context: some branches of the church that once largely abandoned higher education are now trying to express a new interest in it. "Integration" is a choice word to serve as a slogan that expresses a certain conception of Christian education. Beyond its function as a slogan, and despite the other problems that frequently accompany its use, "integration" does have use in education, partly because integration is an important concept in education.

Abstract:
Artificial intelligence is an emerging technology; something far beyond smartphones, cloud integration, or surgical microchip implantation. Utilizing the work of Ray Kurzweil, Nick Bostrom, and Steven Shaviro, this thesis investigates technology and artificial intelligence through the lens of the cinema. It does this by mapping contemporary concepts and the imagined worlds in film as an intersection of reality and fiction that examines issues of individual identity and alienation. I look at a non-linear timeline of films involving machine advancement, machine intelligence, and stages of post-human development; Elysium (2013) and Surrogates (2009) are about technology as an extension of the self, The Terminator franchise (1984-2015), Blade Runner (1982), and Bicentennial Man (1999) portray artificial intelligent androids and cyborgs, Transcendence (2013) is a contemporary depiction of human consciousness fusing with technology, and Chappie and Ex Machina are both released in 2015 are situated in contemporary society with sentient artificial intelligence. Looking at these films portrayals of man’s relationship with machines creates a discourse for contemporary society’s anxiety surrounding technology. I argue that recent film’s depiction of artificial intelligence signals a contemporary change in our perception of technology, urging that we reevaluate the ways that we define our identity.

Abstract:
The build cycle of a first in class combat ship takes about six years. During that timeframe, systems are being designed, installed, and tested, but, until the ship is in the water and tested at sea trials, it is not known if the ship is fully integrated and will actually work. As time progresses, integration problems become harder and more expensive to solve. Every time a new system is added or upgraded, there may be interference from another system that was not anticipated. It is important to test and verify each system, but there is limited time and resources to do so. By successfully planning and performing systems integration at the correct time of the acquisition cycle, it is possible to reduce the chance of system failure. This thesis explains and establishes a process for designing and building a fully integrated combat ship by first defining systems integration for the customer and the shipbuilder and explaining why performing systems integration is important.

Abstract:
Since the onset of guest worker migration in the mid-1950s, the notion of integration has been coming up in Germany as the diffuse demand for adaptation on the part of the migrants. Up to the present day, the processes of integration of Turks and their offspring have carried particular weight. The goal of this dissertation is to explore German-Turkish contemporary fiction in order to call intransigent patterns of thought in the discourse on integration into question and develop new perspectives: What is integration, who integrates into what, and why? The dissertation analyzes the modes of integration literature articulates, the parameters with which integration is bound up, and the factors considered decisive for successful or failed integration. Its subject are writings by first- and second-generation authors of Turkish origin that have appeared between 2007 and 2011, in particular the novels Ali zum Dessert by Hatice Akyün and Cafe Cyprus by Yade Kara. The theoretical and methodical framework is derived from intercultural literary studies as according to Norbert Mecklenburg and Michael Hoffmann (e.g. on concepts of identity and difference); Hartmut EsserÕs sociological account of integration; and Michel Foucault`s notion of discourse and archaeological analysis. The dissertation accomplishes the aesthetic and thematic characterization of German-Turkish contemporary fiction, reveals on which concept of integration each text is based, and evaluates the texts aesthetic realizations and their contributions to the current discourse. The analysis proves particularly insightful in those instances in which literary texts project a discourse that deviates from that of the media, politics, and society, and treat aspects that sociology has hitherto neglected. In these instances, new discursive formations along with new decisive factors for integration arise, and it becomes necessary to evaluate the reality of integration differently.

Hualde, Javier. "Estimation of fractional co-integration with unknown integration orders." Thesis, London School of Economics and Political Science (University of London), 2004. http://etheses.lse.ac.uk/1753/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis presents different methods of estimating the co-integrating parameter in a bivariate fractionally co-integrated model. The proposed estimates enjoy optimal convergence rates and standard asymptotic distributions, yielding Wald test statistics with x2 null limit distribution. In the last few years increasing interest has developed in the issue of fractional co-integration, where both the observable series and the co-integrating error can be fractional processes, nesting the familiar situation where their respective orders are 1 and 0. These values have typically been assumed known. Chapter 1 is mainly devoted to reviewing this traditional prescription and motivate the relevance of fractional co-integration. In Chapter 2, we analyse a fully parametric model where the co-integrating gap, that is the difference between the integration order of the observables and that of the co-integrating error, is larger than 0.5. There, we show that our estimates share with the Gaussian maximum likelihood estimate the same limiting distribution, irrespective of whether the orders of integration are known or unknown, subject in the latter case to their estimation with adequate rates of convergence. Chapter 3, still in a parametric framework, proposes estimates of the parameter of co-integration in case the co-integrating gap is less than 0.5. Again, we cover both situations where the orders of integration are known and unknown. Our estimates are inefficient relative to the Gaussian maximum likelihood, but share with this estimate optimal rate of convergence and asymptotic normality, being computationally much more convenient. Chapter 4 concentrates on both situations described in the previous two chapters from a semiparametric perspective, that is without assuming knowledge of the parametric structure of the input series generating the fractional processes in the model. Finally, Chapter 5 describes a simple procedure of testing for the equality of orders of integration of different series. This is as essential step in any empirical work in order to asses for the presence of co-integration in a certain estimated model.

Abstract:
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by difficulties in social interaction, communications and unusual repetitive behaviours. Studies have documented superior performance in autism in visuo-spatial tasks suggesting perceptual differences in this group. This has been suggested to result from enhanced processing of local details and reduced integration of global information. Contour integration tasks are one way of studying visual integration where participants have to detect a contour made of discrete elements (usually Gabor patches) against a background of noise. However, contour integration studies in autism have yielded mixed findings which possibly due to the closed shapes and longer stimulus duration used in these studies. Recently, Jachim et al (2015) compared contour detection using open and closed contours at a shorter duration reported reduced closure in the autistic group. Closed shapes are generally easier to detect than open shapes, termed the closure effect which is thought to result from more involvement of top-down input. Therefore, the main aim of this thesis was to further explore visual integration in autism using contour integration tasks, to understand the reasons for these variations in autism and neurotypicals. We presented six contour integration experiments using open (eg: lines) and closed (eg: square) contours. The first two experiments explored the influence of autistic traits in the general population and attentional feedback on contour integration in neurotypicals using a dual-task which interferes with processes concurrently using attention. The autistic traits showed a weak effect on contour integration, and the dual task produced a non-significant reduction to closure, that requires further exploration with larger participant numbers. The next two experiments investigated the influence of stimulus duration on contour integration in both groups to test the suggestion of slower global processing in autism. Results showed no effect of durations on closure in both groups, and that reduced closure in the autistic group did not resolved with longer durations. The final two experiments explored the relationship between closure and symmetry in both groups; another process that is thought to involve global processing and received input from similar areas that process closure. The control group showed better symmetry detection with closed contour, suggesting closure benefits symmetry detection. Despite comparable performance to the control group with the closed contour, the autistic group showed better thresholds with the open contour leading to lesser benefit of closure in symmetry detection. In summary, we reported possible variations in contour integration in general population. Additionally, results suggested that the autistic group processed contour integration and symmetry using different mechanisms. This converging evidence is suggestive of enhanced perception at low-level processing in autism, in support of Enhanced Perceptual Functioning Theory (EPF).

Abstract:
The aim of the present study is to clarify the nature of integration between the individual and the organization. I have utilized four analytical tools in this endeavor – forms of association, theoretical starting points, integrating factors, and principles of integration. The forms of association have been taken from Amitai Etzioni's model for describing the interplay between members' experience of an organization and organizational sanctions. These in turn provide us with three categories – coercion, when association is steered by constraint exercised by the organization; interest, when integration proceeds deliberately and voluntarily; and normative or institutional integration, when association is steered by a normative community. The starting point selected is important, and often decisive, for any effort to understand the connection between the individual and the organization. In the present effort to theoretically explain how a particular association between individual and organization emerges, I have deliberately selected human nature (the integrating unit) from the choice of two alternatives for the starting point. That is to say that the starting point for integration should be sought not in the organization, but in people. The reason for this decision is my contention that organizations have no organic form, and that they can be steered and influenced in a completely differently way than people. In order for the theoretical starting point to function as a explanatory factor, it should provide the location for an active element. I have chosen the individual's striving for development and maturity as the active element or integrating factor in this regard. The integration of individual and organization is fostered to the extent that the individual's striving for development is satisfied within the framework of the organization. I argue that participation is the principle of integration that serves this goal. In conclusion, participation promotes the integration of the individual and organization, and it drives the process of integration in respect to three forms of coordination – coercion, interest, and institutional integration. Submission (the absence of participation) leads to coercion. Negotiation (the preliminary stage of participation) leads to interest integration. Participation, finally, leads to institutional integration.

Abstract:
‘Integration’ is often referred to in Swedish policy documents and analyzed by measures of effectivity and structural adjustment, assuming acculturation and essentialization of populations. This thesis explores how integration is practiced and defined within the context of professional adult education for newly arrived immigrants. The main case study focuses on Swedish for Professionals (SFX) and specifically, the Swedish for truck drivers (SFL) program as sites where the lifeworlds of teachers and students emerge as an actor-network of integrative forces. By relying on ethnographic methods including semi-structured interviews and participant observation the informants’ own narrative of entering society surfaces. Actor- network theory and community of practice theory lift the informants’ actions and accounts to assemble a community of integrators located within a network of integration. Tracing the voices, actions and interactions of the participants at SFX and SFL in particular, results in a contextual version of integration that relays their subjective experiences and explains the social and material processes involved in them ‘coming into society.’ The lived-in experiences of integration offered in this thesis both compares and contrasts to forms of integration offered in political and scholastic discussions.

Wang, Xiaoli (Li). "Integrating information literacy into higher education curricula: An IL curricular integration model." Thesis, Queensland University of Technology, 2010. https://eprints.qut.edu.au/41747/1/Xiaoli%20Wang%20Thesis.pdf.

Full text
Abstract:
This study investigates a way to systematically integrate information literacy (IL) into an undergraduate academic programme and develops a model for integrating information literacy across higher education curricula. Curricular integration of information literacy in this study means weaving information literacy into an academic curriculum. In the associated literature, it is also referred to as the information literacy embedding approach or the intra-curricular approach. The key findings identified from this study are presented in 4 categories: the characteristics of IL integration; the key stakeholders in IL integration; IL curricular design strategies; and the process of IL curricular integration. Three key characteristics of the curricular integration of IL are identified: collaboration and negotiation, contextualisation and ongoing interaction with information. The key stakeholders in the curricular integration of IL are recognised as the librarians, the course coordinators and lecturers, the heads of faculties or departments, and the students. Some strategies for IL curricular design include: the use of IL policies and standards in IL curricular design; the combination of face to face and online teaching as an emerging trend; the use of IL assessment tools which play an important role in IL integration. IL can be integrated into the intended curriculum (what an institution expects its students to learn), the offered curriculum (what the teachers teach) and the received curriculum (what students actually learn). IL integration is a process of negotiation, collaboration and the implementation of the intended curriculum. IL can be integrated at different levels of curricula such as: institutional, faculty, departmental, course and class curriculum levels. Based on these key findings, an IL curricular integration model is developed. The model integrates curriculum, pedagogy and learning theories, IL theories, IL guidelines and the collaboration of multiple partners. The model provides a practical approach to integrating IL into multiple courses across an academic degree. The development of the model was based on the IL integration experiences of various disciplines in three universities and the implementation experience of an engineering programme at another university; thus it may be of interest to other disciplines. The model has the potential to enhance IL teaching and learning, curricular development and to implement graduate attributes in higher education. Sociocultural theories are applied to the research process and IL curricular design of this study. Sociocultural theories describe learning as being embedded within social events and occurring as learners interact with other people, objects, and events in a collaborative environment. Sociocultural theories are applied to explore how academic staff and librarians experience the curricular integration of IL; they also support collaboration in the curricular integration of IL and the development of an IL integration model. This study consists of two phases. Phase I (2007) was the interview phase where both academic staff and librarians at three IL active universities were interviewed. During this phase, attention was paid specifically to the practical process of curricular integration of IL and IL activity design. Phase II, the development phase (2007-2008), was conducted at a fourth university. This phase explores the systematic integration of IL into an engineering degree from Year 1 to Year 4. Learning theories such as sociocultural theories, Bloom’s Taxonomy and IL theories are used in IL curricular development. Based on the findings from both phases, an IL integration model was developed. The findings and the model contribute to IL education, research and curricular development in higher education. The sociocultural approach adopted in this study also extends the application of sociocultural theories to the IL integration process and curricular design in higher education.

Abstract:

If today’s software systems and their complex applications shall be able to integrate with each

other, they have to communicate through services. This service oriented integration can be

accomplished by using Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) where all components are

loosely coupled and communicate in a standardized way. An important part when building an

integrated solution is the Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). In this report we will explain the

basics of SOA and take a more detailed look at the world of ESB. The concept of ESB is not

well defined and hence means different things to different people. We are going to present an

interpretation of the ESB and its benefits and disadvantages. To find out what the market

thinks about ESB we have been talking to producers, consultants and customers.

Abstract:
In this thesis, we discuss different techniques to bridge the gap between two different approaches to artificial intelligence: the symbolic and the connectionist paradigm. Both approaches have quite contrasting advantages and disadvantages. Research in the area of neural-symbolic integration aims at bridging the gap between them. Starting from a human readable logic program, we construct connectionist systems, which behave equivalently. Afterwards, those systems can be trained, and later the refined knowledge be extracted.

Abstract:
Enterprise systems and applications are getting more and more complex. In 30 years computing has transformed from big single machines to highly heterogeneous systems. Businesses are today depending on a super-sized mixed bag of applications that have been introduced over the years. Businesses have much to gain by obtaining a holistic view of their data and integrating business processes that are spread over different systems. This master of thesis explores critical success factors (CSF) for enterprise application integration (EAI) from the perspective of developing new application into such environment. Based on current research in the field of EAI, and experiences gained from a real-life scenario the report argues for the importance of integration and what the most influential factors for success are. Among many significantly important factors, two main trends emerge as especially important: developer guidance and documentation, and integration functionality. The former leads to success by focusing on developer productivity through the use scorecards, principles and guidance, well-specified interfaces, and skilled EAI employees; and the latter by extending integration functionality to include many-tomany integration strategies and workflows to model the business.

Abstract:
The French and Dutch refusal to ratify the European Constitution in 2005 and the collapse of many East German businesses post-reunification; are just some examples of the hurdles integrating nations face. Integration of nations affects many economic factors such as public good allocation, trade, production, labour, consumption and even macro-economic policy instruments. Therefore, it is important to understand what motivates integration. Few scholars have broached the subject of the integration of nations (see Goyal and Staal (2004)), where size asymmetry and historical dependence are considered. Starting with Alesina and Spolaore (2003)'s Size of Nations symmetric framework, we attempt to do this with a two nation (asymmetric in size) location model. The key findings are that size differentials and the constitutional design (the identity of the decision maker) matters. In this thesis, we consider the social planner (government) and voters. The social planner maximizes social welfare for his own nation. Voting outcomes become non-trivial as it depends on the number of alternatives and the voting system. We categorize integration into two main forms. Full Integration is when the two nations fully integrate to form a new one, only one capital remains. Federated Integration is where the nations integrate but retain some form of sovereignty; this is represented by the retention of both capitals. Size difference matters when two nations chose to integrate. As the size difference between the two nations increase it becomes harder for integration to occur; nations would integrate if there is no size difference. The identity of the decision maker will affect the threshold on size.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Techno-strategic integration is the process through which militaries integrate technological advances into a strategy that maximizes their advantages. While sheer military might is a function of a variety of factors, technology has taken center stage in the past two centuries. The industrial revolution changed the way war was fought, and the changes had wide ranging effects. The calamity of the First World War was in some ways a failure to techno-strategically integrate industrial age technology. The history of military technology and strategy illustrates many obstacles to the integration of the two. This thesis shows that successful techno-strategic integration is often highly correlated with effective execution of war and improvement of national security. On the other hand, enduring organizational preferences, inter-service rivalry, and commercial self-interest have often undermined new techno-strategic possibilities. However, with the growth and increasing capability of information age technology, this research shows growing indications that the techno-strategic paradigm of the industrial age is shifting. The United States is positioned to capitalize on its lead in informational innovations, and integrating technologies into new concepts of operations. If managed successfully, the United States might emerge with a leaner, more agile force that can keep its strategic competitors at bay.

Abstract:
Abstract This study analyzes an attempt at integration of a pre-school class, a leisure-time center and an elementary school in Sweden. The integration was organized in the form of Vertical Track which implies a successive development of groups comprising children between six and twelve years old, pre-school teachers, recreation pedagogues, and schoolteachers. The integration was prompted by state governed reforms such as the 1992 law allowing six-year olds to start compulsory school. The study is based on cultural-historical activity theory and was carried out as participant observation and action research. The study addresses the question of the potentials and alternative goals for change and development of the present school pedagogy and classroom practice that integration implies. Special attention has been paid to what tools might potentially mediate in processes of integration. A research and educational program, the 5thD, was jointly created between researchers and teachers and located in a Vertical Track. The capacity of this complex tool as a mediator in the multicultural Vertical Track structure was explored. It is argued that the Vertical Track as an instantiation of the integration reform represents an arena for potential expansive transformation. However, in order for integration to have an impact on the pedagogical practice in schools, teacher interactions need to be mediated by communicative and conceptual tools. It is suggested that the 5thD program is an example of such tools. Keywords: Integration, pre-school teacher, recreation pedagogue, schoolteacher, contradiction, expansive learning, mediation, and tool.

Full text
Abstract:
In most industrial situations chemical processes operate within "Total Sites", where they are serviced and linked through a central utility system. Established procedures for heat and power integration work well for optimising each process in isolation. However, greater benefits in terms of energy and capital can be obtained by looking at the entire site. Total site integration addresses the task of optimising each process and the utility system in the context of the overall site. Total site integration has only received limited attention. Various attempts have been made to explore the complex interactions between the processes. However the trade-offs between fuel consumption and co-generation have not yet been established. Therefore, design solutions are mainly derived based on intuition. Since a systematic methodology to address the problem does not actually exist, many iterations may be involved in deriving good solutions and attractive design options can be missed. This thesis provides analytical tools that help understand the interactions between site fuel, heat recovery and co-generation. Capital implications are also addressed. Based on these analytical tools, procedures are developed to tackle total site integration problems including retrofits, site expansions and grassroots, in a systematic way. The procedures do not aim to generate a single optimum solution. Developed within the framework of Pinch Analysis, they are based on physical insights and can help engineers obtain good practical solutions. They can be used to scope and screen major design decisions during the conceptual design stage. The concepts developed in this thesis to address process integration in the context of total sites, do not in any way invalidate the existing Pinch Analysis principles for single process optimisation. Rather, being totally compatible to them, they lift Pinch Analysis onto a higher level of perception.

Abstract:

Abstract In general, language is the key to the community, to self-sufficiency and independence. Being able to speak the Swedish language is a part of the community integration. Integration also has a practical aspect that includes everyday life and affects one's opportunities in the labor market. Therefore, we have selected in this paper to focus on the language and integration but inevitably we will also discuss the education you need on the labor market. The purpose of this study is to describe how the staffs at the Language Café Nobel works for an increased integration in Malmo, and examine the significance of Language Café Nobel have for their participants. In order to fulfil the purpose we used a qualitative method, which involves semi-structured interviews and participant observations. To interpret and gain a deeper understanding of the informants' answers, we used a hermeneutical approach as an analysis method. Based on informant’s answers, the results showed that Language Café Nobel has helped them to develop their communicative Swedish language, which has made their life become easier. For some, the information from Language café has been beneficial for the participants because it has led to integration into the society. This shows that the Language Café Nobel is working for a better integration in Malmo.
