Abstract:
Abstract The present article addresses genre shifts in Israeli political campaign in 2013, specifically written advertisements published in newspapers, on the Internet, on stickers, in leaflets, and on billboards. I examine shifts to diverse genres (protest slogans, writing on social networks, personal conversation, a math exercise etc.), and analyze various discursive and para-linguistic strategies by means of which these shifts are implemented: use of registers and sociolects identified with particular genres; syntactical, semantic and lexical repetitions; graphic, typographical, and visual elements, etc. I show that due to the expectations of the addressees regarding the reconstructed genres and the addressing parties, genre shifts may serve to fulfill two main pragmatic-rhetorical functions: (1) Promoting messages regarding the desired conduct of the voters during the elections; (2) Self-positioning of the parties, either to strengthen their existing image among the public or to create a new, surprising one. I thus emphasize the key role played by genre shifts in the intertextual phenomenon of integrating semiotic meanings into a linguistic text; specifically in this case, integrating cultural-societal meanings into campaign advertisements.

Abstract:
Three black dolls appear in the etchingsby H. K. Browne (Phiz) that accompany Charles Dickens'sBleak House(1853). They hang, strange fruit, from strings on walls and in shop windows, and their purpose as commentary on the text remains unclear because it is also initially unclear what they might represent. The dolls are never mentioned in the text of the novel, nor do they receive any substantial criticism in readings ofBleak House's illustrations. This article plumbs the archive for evidence of the dolls, and uses the resulting range of associations, from the American cotton trade to Victorian advertising techniques, to argue for a greater integration of the analysis of text and illustrations in serialized, illustrated novels such asBleak House. Material culture readings of the novel to this date have overlooked elements of the illustrations (which are themselves material objects), or have focused on illustrations as print culture, and not conversations with the written text. Examining the dolls in this context not only enrichesBleak House, but also attests to the value of observing the interplay of text and illustration, as well as text and advertising, in readings of the novel's serialized form.

Abstract:
An adequate visualization form is required to gain an overview and ultimately understand the complex and diverse biological mechanisms of diseases. Recently, disease maps have been introduced for this purpose. A disease map is defined as a systems biological map or model that combines metabolic, signaling, and physiological pathways to create a comprehensive overview of known disease mechanisms. With the increase in publications describing biological interactions, efforts in creating and curating comprehensive disease maps is growing accordingly. Therefore, new computational approaches are needed to reduce the time that manual curation takes. Test mining algorithms can be used to analyse the natural language of scientific publications. These types of algorithms can take humanly readable text passages and convert them into a more ordered, machine-usable data structure. To support the creation of disease maps by text mining, we developed an interactive, user-friendly disease map viewer. The disease map viewer displays text mining results in a systems biology map, where the user can review them and either validate or reject identified interactions. Ultimately, the viewer brings together the time-saving advantages of text mining with the accuracy of manual data curation.

Abstract:
The Chinese language and literature layout has important application value. How to quickly and efficiently deal with the huge amount, diverse forms, and complex content of Chinese language and literature is a problem that people pay more attention to. In addition, a large number of digital resources exist in the form of images instead of text encoding. How to efficiently manage and use this document information, especially the fast retrieval of document content, is an important research direction. This paper mainly discusses the processing of Chinese language and literature layout combined with text image preprocessing algorithm and researches into the skew correction of document images. There are many types of documents, and many tilt correction methods are based on prior knowledge. If such a sample quality situation occurs, the image needs to be preprocessed. Using denoising to remove useless noise information and using correction technology to leave and strengthen the classified effective information, we can carry out the next step of retrieval and recognition. The preprocessing avoids interference and destruction of the feature description algorithm by other factors as much as possible and guarantees the effect of recognition and retrieval to a certain extent. This paper proposes a method of document image tilt correction based on the content of the document. According to different document contents, we select the corresponding strategy to estimate the document tilt. This paper uses two-dimensional wavelet transform, runs length smoothing and thinning preprocessing to extract the lines and text lines in the document image, and uses the least square method of linear parameters to estimate the inclination angle of the document. This method has the characteristics of high accuracy of tilt estimation and strong adaptability. The accuracy of feature line matching in geometric structure classification can reach 97%. This research helps to promote the continuous development of Chinese language and literature.

Abstract:
In UK schools, there remains a compartmentalisation of English into ‘language’ and ‘literature’, evident in the ways that the subject is taught and examined and in the degrees to which teachers perceive themselves as being either a ‘language’ or a ‘literature’ teacher. In this paper, we suggest that an approach informed by cognitive linguistics and cognitive stylistics offers a wealth of affordances to the teacher who wishes to integrate aspects of linguistic and literary studies into their teaching. We argue that, in particular, the cognitive discourse grammar Text World Theory provides an accessible and usable set of pedagogical principles, and present two case studies of collaborative research with teachers in which they drew upon Text World Theory as a model for thinking about grammar teaching, literature teaching, lesson design, classroom talk and their own identity as a teacher of English. The data suggests that this approach may have positive benefits for students engaging in high-level linguistic analysis and the developing of responses to literature, and for teachers thinking about lesson and activity design.

Abstract:
Abstract The starting point for the author’s considerations is the conception of style as the humanistic structure of text, which he uses as the foundation of integrating stylistic synthesis. The synthesis is to be characterized by the following: 1) holism (moderately and functionally directed, brought down to a system in which relations connecting different manners of the existence and functioning of language in text are exposed); 2) integrationism (integrating knowledge of language reality, primarily of the functioning of language in text); 3) intermethodologism and transdisciplinariness. Acceptance of this conception of style offers – regarding the understanding of it – a very broad and open cognitive space. There may appear in it different frameworks which present diverse faces of style and stylistics. Their cognitive use enriches the integrative synthesis.

Abstract:
We are interested in deepening the knowledge of methods based on formal power series applied to the nilpotent center problem of planar local analytic monodromic vector fields [Formula: see text]. As formal integrability is not enough to characterize such a center we use a more general object, namely, formal inverse integrating factors [Formula: see text] of [Formula: see text]. Although by the existence of [Formula: see text] it is not possible to describe all nilpotent centers strata, we simplify, improve and also extend previous results on the relationship between these concepts. We use in the performed analysis the so-called Andreev number [Formula: see text] with [Formula: see text] associated to [Formula: see text] which is invariant under orbital equivalency of [Formula: see text]. Besides the leading terms in the [Formula: see text]-quasihomogeneous expansions that [Formula: see text] can have, we also prove the following: (i) If [Formula: see text] is even and there exists [Formula: see text] then [Formula: see text] has a center; (ii) if [Formula: see text], the existence of [Formula: see text] characterizes all the centers; (iii) if there is a [Formula: see text] with minimum “vanishing multiplicity” at the singularity then, generically, [Formula: see text] has a center.

Abstract:
Topic discovery involves identifying the main ideas within large volumes of textual data. It indicates recurring topics in documents, providing an overview of the text. Current topic discovery models receive the text, with or without pre-processing, including stop word removal, text cleaning, and normalization (lowercase conversion). A topic discovery process that receives general domain text with or without processing generates general topics. General topics do not offer detailed overviews of the input text, and manual text categorization is tedious and time-consuming. Extracting topics from text with an automatic classification task is necessary to generate specific topics enriched with top words that maintain semantic relationships among them. Therefore, this paper presents an approach that integrates text classification for topic discovery from large amounts of English textual data, such as 20-Newsgroups and Reuters Corpora. We rely on integrating automatic text classification before the topic discovery process to obtain specific topics for each class with relevant semantic relationships between top words. Text classification performs a word analysis that makes up a document to decide what class or category to identify; then, the proposed integration provides latent and specific topics depicted by top words with high coherence from each obtained class. Text classification accomplishes this with a convolutional neural network (CNN), incorporating an embedding model based on semantic relationships. Topic discovery over categorized text is realized with latent Dirichlet analysis (LDA), probabilistic latent semantic analysis (PLSA), and latent semantic analysis (LSA) algorithms. An evaluation process for topic discovery over categorized text was performed based on the normalized topic coherence metric. The 20-Newsgroups corpus was classified, and twenty topics with the ten top words were identified for each class. The normalized topic coherence obtained was 0.1723 with LDA, 0.1622 with LSA, and 0.1716 with PLSA. The Reuters Corpus was also classified, and twenty and fifty topics were identified. A normalized topic coherence of 0.1441 was achieved when applying the LDA algorithm, obtaining 20 topics for each class; with LSA, the coherence was 0.1360, and with PLSA, it was 0.1436.

Abstract:
Difficult-to-find petroleum resources and expensive drilling drive the need for improved exploration methods. Although improvement can be made by technically advancing individual methods, greater improvement comes from integrating existing independent exploration methods to dramatically improve drilling success. Exploration integration is often discussed, but it is less often carried out. A reason exploration integration has been limited may be due to the lack of clearly defined integration methods. In this study, we looked at the integration of independent exploration methods; we studied its fundamental principles, how it works, and why it is effective. Derived from basic probability theory, a simple map overlay of independent exploration data can be an effective integration method. Probability calculations determine the probability of a successful well from known probabilities of integrated independent techniques. A successful integration of data from Cheeseburger Field, Eastern Shelf of the Midland Basin, Stonewall County, Texas, illustrates how integration of 3D seismic, subsurface geologic, and surface geochemical data improve drilling results beyond those achieved from any single method used alone. In Cheeseburger Field, 3D seismic and subsurface geology resulted in [Formula: see text] successful wells. After integrating geochemical exploration data, results improved to [Formula: see text]. Modern petroleum exploration is a multitool, integrated information science. Probability theory provides a means for predicting outcome of integrating independent exploration methods. Enhanced exploration success can be achieved by combining independent and complementary exploration methods in this integration process.

The DigiLit Framework suggests criteria for digital text and tool selection (content accuracy, intuitiveness, interactivity, quality) and integration (model a literacy skill or strategy, guide a literacy skill or strategy, model digital feature use, guide digital feature use) in literacy lessons. Using survey research, we explored which DigiLit criteria literacy professors prepared preservice teachers to use in K-12 settings. Participants included 199 literacy professors (194 from USA and one each from Australia, Canada, Caribbean, Middle East and Europe). We used a multivariate outcome logit/probit model to analyze how this was related to (a) professor characteristics, (b) institution characteristics, and (c) time. Findings showed that certain professor characteristics (e.g., interest in integrating technology, being knowledgeable about digital literacies), institution characteristics (e.g., access to equipment, professional development, technical support, incentives), and time to plan and practice integration were related to literacy professors’ increased preparation of preservice teachers to use digital text or tool selection and integration. These findings provide specific ways to improve literacy teacher preparation by providing specific kinds of supports.

Abstract:
Students at vocational high school are expected to have proper English proficiency along with their vocational skill. However, Indonesian government has already set the teaching model to be Text-based Instruction (TBI) which is same with senior high school. As a result, English lesson for vocational school indicated as less purposeful. Therefore, this paper is intended to design appropriate teaching model in ESP to be integrated with the teaching cycle in TBI. By reviewing underlaying theories from TBI, and Teaching model in ESP, this paper proposed two teaching model combined with TBI. The first integration is integrating TBI with the practices of Flipped Learning Model in which the activities are divided into two phases namely before classroom time and inside classroom time. The second integration is integrating TBI with the phases of Project Based Learning in which the activities will be divided into four phases. The two proposed teaching model will be useful for promoting writing activities for students. Finally, by proposing those teaching models, it is expected that the practice of English lesson in vocational school will meet its objectives.

Abstract:
Prioritization of cancer implicated genes has received growing attention as an effective way to reduce wet lab cost by computational analysis that ranks candidate genes according to the likelihood that experimental verifications will succeed. A multitude of gene prioritization tools have been developed, each integrating different data sources covering gene sequences, differential expressions, function annotations, gene regulations, protein domains, protein interactions, and pathways. This review places existing gene prioritization tools against the backdrop of an integrative Omic hierarchy view toward cancer and focuses on the analysis of their text mining components. We explain the relatively slow progress of text mining in gene prioritization, identify several challenges to current text mining methods, and highlight a few directions where more effective text mining algorithms may improve the overall prioritization task and where prioritizing the pathways may be more desirable than prioritizing only genes.

Abstract:
Vision-language alignment learning for video-text retrieval arouses a lot of attention in recent years. Most of the existing methods either transfer the knowledge of image-text pretraining model to video-text retrieval task without fully exploring the multi-modal information of videos, or simply fuse multi-modal features in a brute force manner without explicit guidance. In this paper, we integrate multi-modal information in an explicit manner by tagging, and use the tags as the anchors for better video-text alignment. Various pretrained experts are utilized for extracting the information of multiple modalities, including object, person, motion, audio, etc. To take full advantage of these information, we propose the TABLE (TAgging Before aLignmEnt) network, which consists of a visual encoder, a tag encoder, a text encoder, and a tag-guiding cross-modal encoder for jointly encoding multi-frame visual features and multi-modal tags information. Furthermore, to strengthen the interaction between video and text, we build a joint cross-modal encoder with the triplet input of [vision, tag, text] and perform two additional supervised tasks, Video Text Matching (VTM) and Masked Language Modeling (MLM). Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the TABLE model is capable of achieving State-Of-The-Art (SOTA) performance on various video-text retrieval benchmarks, including MSR-VTT, MSVD, LSMDC and DiDeMo.

Abstract:
21st century learning demands the integration of Information and CommunicationTechnology (ICT) in teaching and learning process. Regarding this issue, this research isaimed at investigating English as a foreign language (EFL) teacher’s belief and practices onthe integration of ICT in English language teaching. To reach the objective, a case study onan individual teacher was used in this research. The participant was purposively andtheoretically selected because she was considered as the informant who could givesufficient information to answer the research questions. Teacher’s interview and classroomobservation were used as the data collecting techniques. Iterative data collection andanalysis were conducted continuously till theoretical pattern of concepts and categorieswere achieved. The Substitution Augmentation Modification Redefinition (SAMR) modelwas used as the data analysis tool resulted from the classroom observation to reveal to whatextent the teacher implements ICT integration. The results of this research indicate that theteacher believes that integrating ICT is very important as ICT has ability to maketransformation of all educational aspects by making use of it to reachinstructional objectives then the quality of teaching and learning will improve. Theresults also indicate that there is no discrepancy between belief and practice as the teacherhas been integrating ICT in the classroom. However, the teacher is still on the substitutionand augmentation stages in integrating ICT and hardly achieves modification and redefinitionstages. These results suggest that teachers be prepared for ICT integration to create moremeaningful learning in the classroom.

Abstract:
The number of tourist attractions reviews, travel notes and other texts has grown exponentially in the Internet age. Effectively mining users’ potential opinions and emotions on tourist attractions, and helping to provide users with better recommendation services, which is of great practical significance. This paper proposes a multi-channel neural network model called Pre-BiLSTM combined with a pre-training mechanism. The model uses a combination of coarse and fine- granularity strategies to extract the features of text information such as reviews and travel notes to improve the performance of text sentiment analysis. First, we construct three channels and use the improved BERT and skip-gram methods with negative sampling to vectorize the word-level and vocabulary-level text, respectively, so as to obtain more abundant textual information. Second, we use the pre-training mechanism of BERT to generate deep bidirectional language representation relationships. Third, the vectors of the three channels are input into the BiLSTM network in parallel to extract global and local features. Finally, the model fuses the text features of the three channels and classifies them using SoftMax classifier. Furthermore, numerical experiments are conducted to demonstrate that Pre-BiLSTM outperforms the baselines by 6.27%, 12.83% and 18.12% in average in terms of accuracy, precision and F1-score.

Abstract:
This paper explored the pedagogical preparations taken by the researcher in integrating blogs to the traditional classroom experience as well as its use in online classes as a tool for students to write about what they have learned in class and relate it to everyday life. The researcher utilized web blog, combined Facebook and Multiply blogsites, in the online teaching. Utilization of blogsites to supplement the traditional method of teaching was a welcome innovation for most students. The study involved thirty-eight (38) enrolled students of the course English 111. The familiarity and convenience of facebook and multiply blogsites makes learning and complying to requirements an enjoyable task. Blogs as a learning space for English 111 was an effective teaching methodology appreciated by the students. However, the integration of blogs in the traditional teaching learning process requires preparation and planning on the part of the teacher so that applicable and timely activities could be given to the students.
