Abstract:
The objective of the paper is to evaluate the motivations behind integrated disclosure, with particular reference to a holistic management philosophy and integrated thinking. This aspect is particularly relevant because very often companies undertake sustainability paths only for purely opportunistic reasons or to respond formally to context pressures. On the contrary, it is very interesting to analyze companies that base their sustainability policies on solid ethical and moral values. In particular, the analysis was conducted through the methodology of the case study, on a company operating in the transport industry. The analyzed company is characterized by a business model oriented towards sustainability. The results of the analysis showed that at the basis of a quality disclosure there is integrated thinking that pervades all managerial processes in a transversal way. In this perspective, integrated reporting becomes a tool capable of offering an articulated representation of shared value creation processes. This has led not only to extend the content of the information reported but also to broaden the categories of recipients of the report (not only investors but also customers, suppliers, communities, workers, private and public institutions).

Abstract:
A variety of methods have been used to assess the effects of pulp and paper mill wastewater discharges on receiving waters. Because individual methods have both strengths and weaknesses, aquatic ecosystem health is best characterized by an approach which integrates several methods. In order to better understand the significance of its effluents in the aquatic environment, the forest products industry is interested in developing a methodology for integrated aquatic health assessments. Discussions in NCASI's membership suggest that it would be desirable for an integrated aquatic assessment methodology to be capable of the following: (i) determine the environmental compatibility of mill effluents, and where compatibility is established, the margins of safety against adverse impacts; (ii) document improvements in environmental quality as contaminant or waste loads are reduced; (iii) provide an early indication of any important adverse impacts related to mill effluents; (iv) extend the framework for interpreting new and subtle measures of aquatic organism and ecosystem health; and (v) provide a framework for integrating, as appropriate, point and non-point source studies conducted by the forest products industry. Soon, NCASI will be assembling a team of experts to assist in creating an integrated assessment methodology consistent with these objectives. This paper provides an overview of integrated monitoring study elements and their strengths and weakness. Also provided is the process by which industry information needs were assessed and the results of that assessment.

Abstract:
This paper offers a new conceptual model, the integrated stakeholder relationships management model based on the principles of systems thinking and integrated management approach. This research is unique in its scope by considering all management functions while trying to integrate the stakeholders into the strategic decisions of the management. The model is tested on a sample with 303 respondents from software companies (175), hardware companies (100) and a sectoral association (28) in Turkey to explore how stakeholder relationships are managed based on the perceptions of the managers and the employees. Whereas the pilot study showed us the feasibility of the model, the main study results indicated how the stakeholder relationships are managed in a group of sample IT organizations when compared to the ideal criteria given by the proposed model. The model may prove to be a managerial guide for the managers at all levels for their attempts to integrate stakeholder interests into the management processes.

Abstract:
Purpose Integrated thinking is central to the International Integrated Reporting Council’s (IIRC’s) integrated reporting (IR) framework, which is in turn is related to a potential resurgence of intellectual capital (IC) reporting. However, it remains unclear how key IR stakeholders understand this concept in theory or practice. The purpose of this paper is to explore how key stakeholders interpret integrated thinking; and how pilot organizations are applying integrated thinking in practice. Design/methodology/approach The study involved in-depth semi-structured interviews with key IR stakeholders in Australia, including two IR pilot organizations, one professional association, an accounting professional body, an accounting firm and two IIRC officials. Findings First, the IIRC has not fully defined and articulated the concept of integrated thinking, and there is no shared consensus among practitioners. Second, there is evidence of an evolving understanding of integrated thinking within practice. What remains unclear is how this understanding will develop over time. Research limitations/implications Since interviews were conducted with a relatively small sample of participants in Australia, the results may not be generalizable across different contexts. The study emphasizes the need to interpret carefully IR’s potential contribution to organizational practice through either reporting in general, or IC reporting in particular. Originality/value Despite the centrality of integrated thinking to IR, there has been limited research to date on the concept. Clarifying what integrated thinking means in practice can improve our understanding of a key IR concept, and can advance our understanding of IR’s potential to improve IC reporting and research.

Abstract:
In this paper, the design and optimization procedures of a heterogeneous heat integrated azeotropic distillation sequence with side stripper (HIADS-SS) for the purification of isopropanol are investigated. The proposed procedures can detect the optimal values of the design variables and thereby guarantee the minimum energy consumption. The procedures are applied to the study of the separation of azeotropic mixtures using the two distillation sequences. In the HIADS-SS, the top end of the side stripper has both liquid and vapor exchange with the main column, which eliminates a condenser compared with the conventional heterogeneous azeotropic distillation sequence (CHADS). The results show that reductions in energy consumption can be obtained using the HIADS-SS.

Abstract:
Abstract Epigenome-Wide Association Study (EWAS) has become a standard strategy to discover DNA methylation variation of different phenotypes. Since 2018, we have developed EWAS Atlas and EWAS Data Hub to integrate a growing volume of EWAS knowledge and data, respectively. Here, we present EWAS Open Platform (https://ngdc.cncb.ac.cn/ewas) that includes EWAS Atlas, EWAS Data Hub and the newly developed EWAS Toolkit. In the current implementation, EWAS Open Platform integrates 617 018 high-quality EWAS associations from 910 publications, covering 51 phenotypes, 275 diseases and 104 environmental factors. It also provides well-normalized DNA methylation array data and the corresponding metadata from 115 852 samples, which involve 707 tissues, 218 cell lines and 528 diseases. Taking advantage of integrated knowledge and data in EWAS Atlas and EWAS Data Hub, EWAS Open Platform equips with EWAS Toolkit, a powerful one-stop site for EWAS enrichment, annotation, and knowledge network construction and visualization. Collectively, EWAS Open Platform provides open access to EWAS knowledge, data and toolkit and thus bears great utility for a broader range of relevant research.

Abstract:
The authority of South Africa is in the midst of a profound economic crisis precipitated by high levels of unemployment and inequality, marked by political shifts unprecedented in scope subsequent to the 2016 local government elections. The recent election outcomes reveal disturbances in the social, political and economic systems of the country. These disturbances have been precipitated by low economic growth trajectory and poor investment in service delivery infrastructure. The central thesis of this paper is that in addressing the triple challenge of poverty, inequality and unemployment, a symptomatic approach of addressing social ills and service delivery will not work. This paper draws from institutional theory as a sense-making mechanism to produce a scientific approach to integrated service delivery. Using the tenets of the critical reflecting methodological approach, institutional theory is deconstructed to provide an understanding of how to operationalize integrated service delivery across functions in a scientific fashion. Keywords: service delivery, institutional theory, poverty, inequality and unemployment. JEL Classification: L8, J64, J71, I32

Abstract:
Based on a traditional integrated solar combined cycle system, a novel integrated solar combined cycle (ISCC) system is proposed, which preferentially integrates the solar energy driven lithium bromide absorption refrigeration system that is used to cool the gas turbine inlet air in this paper. Both the Aspen Plus and EBSILON softwares are used to build the models of the overall system. Both the thermodynamic performance and economic performance of the new system are compared with those of the traditional ISCC system without the inlet air cooling process. The new system can regulate the proportions of solar energy integrated in the refrigerator and the heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) based on the daily meteorological data, and the benefits of the solar energy integrated with the absorption refrigeration are greater than with the HRSG. The results of both the typical day performance and annual performance of different systems show that the new system has higher daily and annual system thermal efficiencies (52.90% and 57.00%, respectively), higher daily and annual solar photoelectric efficiencies (31.10% and 22.31%, respectively), and higher daily and annual solar photoelectric exergy efficiencies (33.30% and 23.87%, respectively) than the traditional ISCC system. The solar energy levelized cost of electricity of the new ISCC system is 0.181 $/kW·h, which is 0.061 $/kW·h lower than that of the traditional ISCC system.

Abstract:
Purpose Integration of health services involves multiple interdependent leaders acting at several levels of their organisation and across organisations. This paper aims to explore the complexities of leadership in an integrated care project and aims to understand what leadership arrangements are needed to enable service transformation. Design/methodology/approach This case study analysed system and organisational leadership in a project aiming to integrate primary and specialist care. To explore the former, the national policy documents and guidelines were reviewed. To explore the latter, the official documents from the transformation team meetings and interview data from 17 health-care professionals and commissioners were analysed using thematic analysis with the coding framework derived from the comprehensive and multilevel framework for change (Ferlie and Shortell, 2001). Findings Although integration was supported in the narratives of the system and organisational leaders, there were multiple challenges: insufficient support by the system level leadership for the local leadership, insufficient organisational support for (clinical) leadership within the transformation team and insufficient leadership within the transformation team because of disruptions caused by personnel changes, roles ambiguity, conflicting priorities and insufficient resources. Practical implications This study provides insights into the interdependencies of leadership across multiple levels and proposes steps to maximise the success of complex transformational projects. Originality/value This study’s practical findings are useful for those involved in the bottom-up integrated projects, especially the transformation teams’ members. The case study highlights the need for a toolkit enabling local leaders to operate effectively within the system and organisational leadership contexts.

It seeks to shed light on how IT develops organically, using their IR as a source. Bourdieu’s theory of practice is utilised to explain the concept of IT and how it is established in the case organisation through publicly available corporate information. Design/methodology/approach Video, document/text and interview material are used to investigate the perception and status quo of IT at the case organisation. Data were analysed in two coding stages to derive at the categories/themes that have the most explanatory power regarding the phenomenon under study. Findings The study contributes the organisational habitus of handling uncertainty and disruption, which governs the IT and IR initiative and development in the case organisation. Furthermore, it illustrates an empirical example of how an organisation has grown its IT approach over time and has introduced IR as a result of that, as a reflection on the IT approach. Originality/value This paper investigates a global organisation, the first provider of an integrated report in their geographical region, and its IT and reporting approach. The findings reflect on the organisational habitus of handling uncertainty and disruption, which leads to IT and ultimately IR. The case organisation constitutes a “natural integrated thinker” in their agile asset-light approach to their business and their integration of stakeholders beyond the organisation. They are the regional vanguard of sustainability and integration, as a result of which they have become one of the few global players of their region.

Abstract:
This paper presents a hybrid type of microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) microgripper integrated with an electrostatic mechanism and vacuum technology. Vacuum tools are integrated in this microgripper in order to achieve a reliable and accurate manipulation of microobjects. The microgripper is fabricated by a surface and bulk micromachining technology. The pick and release micromanipulation of microobjects is accomplished by electrostatic driving force caused by comb structure and an auxiliary air pressure force from air pump. The performance of this new hybrid type of microgripper is experimentally demonstrated through the manipulation of 100–200μm polystyrene balls. Experimental results show that this microgripper can successfully fulfill the pick and release micromanipulation.

Abstract:
Introduction. The significant complication of science and practice in human activity have generated the need to develop more complex methods of examination of physical evidence, where complex forensic expertise is one of these methods. Theoretical analysis. The methods of interaction of forensic experts (methodological, procedural and psychological), as important aspects of the analysis of complex examinations, have been considered quite extensively and described in many literature sources. The aspect of the logic of the integrated approach and the logical links between the decisions of the members of the expert team requires a formal logical analysis of all components of the integrated study, including the forensic ballistic examination of the traces and circumstances of the shot. Еmpirical analysis. It has been revealed that we deliberately define complex expertise not through different fields of knowledge or specialties of experts, but through types, kinds and subtypes of forensic examinations. Results. The combination of expertise in solving an expert problem, applying all the knowledge from different fields of science (whereby the synthesis of results and their evaluation lies outside the methodology of the combined expert specialisations) logically allows for giving a joint conclusion, which reflects the generalised results of the study.

Abstract:
A new integrated child safety seat is presented in this paper. The seat is a two-mode seat for a motor vehicle cooperable with an adult seat belt assembly to provide two modes operation including an adult seat mode and a child seat mode. The seat locates in the center of the rear seat. The structure of the seat was designed in detail. The height of the booster of the seat can be adjusted continuously according to the seated shoulder height of the child passenger. The depth of booster cushion also can be changed according to the size of the passenger. The sled test with the seat was conducted. The seat simulation models with different booster heights were developed using MADYMO software and validated. Then, these models were used to study the performance of the seat in frontal impact. Some key parameters of the seat were studied in simulation test. The results of the test and simulation show that the seat can provide effective protection for the children aged from 3 to 10 years in frontal impact.

Abstract:
Study on Integrated Farming Systems Model Development was conducted by the Livelihood Improvement of Farming Community in Haor area through System approach Project of the Department of Agronomy, Bangladesh Agricultral University, Mymensigh worked in Purbo Tethulia village of Moahjganj upazilla, Netrakona district from April 2010 to June 2013 with the financial assistance from the National Agricultural Technology Project, SPGR subproject, Bangladesh Agricultural Council with the following objectives i. Increase productivity of field crops, vegetables, livestock and fishes in a household through the use of appropriate technogies and techniques devised/developed/ designed/refined by the farmers for ensuring household food security and nutritional upliftment and raising income ii. Diversify enterprises, mobilize resources and intensify farming and non farming activities for in situ employment generation iii. Conserve farm environment through efficient mobilization and management of natural resource for sustainable production sysyems iv. Develop human resoures for capacity building of the participants and improve their livelihood through system approach. Research programme was finalized in the Bench Mark Survey Workshop. Farmer selection for different research acivities was done as per plan for defferent five components. The crop and agroforestry component conducted experiments both in the homestead land and crop land. In the homestead area, year round vegetables were intervened through community trial for three years. Production of timber trees like mahogany, lambu and fruit trees like mango, guave, jujube, litchi, lemon papaya and jackfruit was also practiced. Timber trees are now at growing stage and among the fruit trees some like papaya, jujube and lemon are at bearing stage. African dhaincha was introduced around homestead fallow/waste land to protect homestead area from wave thrust and to produce biomass fuel. Field trials on rice, vegetables, spices and oil crops were conducted to intensify and diversify the cropping pattern and as well as to utilize the fallow/ waste land of the research site. Under livestock component, experiments were conducted on rearing of egg producing hen, duck, fattening of animals, milching cow, artificial insemination and chemical evaluation of available feedstuffs. A continuous vaccination programme against common diseases of poultry was maintained throughout the study period. Farmers’ response was very positive towards the experimental results. In the fisheries component, experiment on cage culture in open water, perennial and seasonal pond culture, dry fish and pickle were conducted/done. Among the experiments cage culture in open water proved to be a promising technology and fish pickle was highly appreciated in panel test. For the rural hydrology and mechanization component four studies were conducted. The physico-chemical properties of farm land and homestead soils were determined. Additional application of sulphur and zinc fertilizers were found not required. Both the surface and groundwater characteristics were studied. The maximum flood water depth was found around 3.0 m at farm land. Irrigation facilities developed by installing a shallow tubewell (STW) resulted higher crop production and motivated farmers to install four new STWs by their own capital. All the households (462) of Purbo Tethulia were intervened from the project. The interventions were crop, vegetable, livestock, poultry and fish farming. It was observed that as the number of enterprises increased in the farming systems, the income also increased. The evidence also showed that the training of the beneficiaries increased their knowledge and skill.J. Bangladesh Agril. Univ. 12(2): 325-336, December 2014

Abstract:
Wellington region’s transport network has poor resilience to natural hazards, given the rugged terrain, high seismicity and wet climate. This exposes the land access to the region and the capital city to be potentially cut off from the rest of New Zealand for several months, and its cities to be isolated from each other. This paper reports on a pioneering integrated resilience study of the entire land transport system in the region provided by the state highways, principal and arterial local roads and the railway system. The study considered resilience risks from a range of natural hazards (earthquake, storm and tsunami) using the metrics of availability and outage. The resilience risks and the relative importance of the routes were used to assess the criticality of these risks for future investment in resilience enhancement. The criticality also considered risks to other lifeline utilities - power, water and telecommunications that share these transport corridors. The combined criticality was used to prioritise these resilience risks. The highest criticality resilience risks were classified into extreme, very high and high levels. The extreme criticality risks identified were the state highway between Ngauranga and Petone and the adjacent Ngauranga interchange between the two State Highways 1 and 2, which together provide access between Wellington, Hutt and Porirua cities. A range of very high risks were identified across the region which included both state highways and local roads. This novel resilience study provided the basis for a subsequent business case for future investment to enhance the resilience of the region’s transport network.

Abstract:
<span>Propagation delays and couplings between nearby lines affect the circuit performances (speed, power consumption) and operations. Propagation delays in longer lines can become critical compared to the clock frequency and can induce unwanted signals in neighboring lines ("crosstalk" phenomenon). Induced line capacitances can induce parasitic signals. Hence characterizing of these capacitances is of paramount importance. The present work deals with the analysis of capacitance of a multilayer conductor interconnect aiming for their possible exact extraction. We used three topologies of a microstrip conductor interconnects and identified the potential distributor and then computed the capacitance and inductance matrix using a finite element method. The first analysis dealt with parallel microstrip conductors and the second with two levels (plan) of a microstrip conductors the results are compared to those obtained by other methods and found quite encouraging.</span>
