Abstract:
As third and fourth generation cellular/wireless networks evolve, operators must learn to efficiently manage diverse services, and multiple networks consisting of varying technologies, cell sizes, and frequency bands. Architectural studies on integrated heterogeneous networks suggest that vertical handovers can be used to increase network efficiency. We propose that carefully-controlled load distribution can also promote Quality of Service (QoS) goals for the diverse services. This study compares session overflow and session placement algorithms in order to determine their effects on efficiency and QoS.

Abstract:
Integrated Services Digital Networks (ISDN) is an emerging telecommunications technology that will affect how distance education is designed, developed, and presented. Combined with integrated desktop workstations, it will put voice, text, and video telecommunications at the fingertips of educators and learners. Appropriate use of ISDN for distance education and training depends on the development of a conceptual scheme to integrate models from several closely related areas such as integrated information systems, educational broadcasting, computer assisted instruction, and distance education. In a project funded by Northern Telecom Inc., faculty and students of the Department of Educational Technology at San Diego State University are presently involved in evaluating an integrated telecommunications system and developing an integrated model of distance education.

Abstract:
Monitoring complex computer network environment is now a very challenging task for network administrators despite the various existing monitoring applications for networks that are faced with the issues of centralized monitoring, which causes network traffic, reduces network bandwidth, and are unable to concurrently run two or more network services. This research paper was designed to tackle the problems exhibited by the existing network monitoring application by integrating different network monitoring services in a single model using the power of agent’s distributed processing and monitoring services. Data about the existing and proposed model was gathered using key informant interview approach, and observation of the existing software. Iterative software model was adopted as the software development life cycle based on its strengths and suitability. The proposed model was developed using use-case and sequence diagrams. Suitable programming languages and development environment such as Java, JavaScript, Hypertext Preprocessor, Hypertext markup language and MySQL were used in coding the software prototype. The functionality of the proposed system was tested and results showed that the proposed system has 100% anomaly network intrusion detection rate and better functional features as compared to the existing network monitoring applications observed.

Abstract:
Large health centers usually decentralize their services to small self-sufficient sub-centers of care delivery. These small centers are part of an extensive network of practitioners who are connected. The drug information services of independent clinical pharmacists in a health center could be fragmented. Drug information centers thus need to have a new definition of the mode of operation. While maintaining autonomy in information exchange, professionals are integrated to form a large community of practitioners. Technological advancements in communication and access to resources enable efficient collaborations to happen. Immersed in patient-centered collaborative practice environments, networks of professionals integrate drug information services. Drug information networks thus hold a similar philosophy of health centers to decentralize-change-centralize its services. Further research is required to measure the impact of this model of drug information services. Article Type: Commentary

Abstract:
We iteratively derive the product-form solutions of stationary distributions for a type of preemptive priority multiclass queueing networks with multiserver stations. This type of queueing systems can typically be used to model the stochastic dynamics of some large scale backbone networks with multiprocessor shared-memory switches or local (edge) cloud computing centers with parallel-server pools. The queueing networks are Markovian with exponential interarrival and service time distributions. The obtained iterative solutions can be used to conduct performance analysis or as comparison criteria for approximation and simulation studies. Numerical comparisons with existing Brownian approximating model (BAM) related to general interarrival and service times are provided to show the effectiveness of our current designed algorithm and our previous derived BAM. Furthermore, based on the iterative solutions, we can also give some analysis concerning network stability for some cases of these queueing systems, which provides some insight for more general study.
