Abstract:
The next industrial revolution, which coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, is prompting a different look at the issue of supply chain change management. A new perspective should take into account the aspect of supply chain efficiency at multiple levels. Efficient logistics is green and energy-saving, both of which need to be systematically integrated with the logistical planning processes. The dynamic changes on the demand and supply side resulting from social, political, and economic transformations have significantly influenced the shaping of long-term supply chains. The development of new manufacturing and logistics technologies prompts the development and implementation of new integrated planning methods to support supply chain management processes. Modern supply chains are oriented towards operations in a dynamically changing socio-economic environment. The new methods are capable of incorporating dynamic adaptation of logistics infrastructure which respond to changing relationships between supply and demand. To meet the identified problems of complexity, relevance, and time-consumption of the logistic planning process in modern enterprise management, the PL9A method of logistic planning and 9A LOGPLANNER application for logistics planning were developed. The article presents the results of experimental and simulation studies on the improvement of logistic processes in a working manufacturing enterprise with application of the PL9A method. The results of the experimental work indicate that the application of the PL9A method embedded in the 9A LOGPLANNER software makes it possible to dynamically simulate any number of logistics system variants in a short period of time, while reducing risk and obtaining tangible benefits in terms of energy and ecological efficiency.

Abstract:
The evolutionary process of the development of logistics theory and methodology is formed under the influence of socio-economic and technological factors. The general logic of the development of the world economy internationalization processes determines the search of innovative ways to integrate participants of the world economic relations. The intensification of competition in the transport services market in the context of the scientific and technological progress in the middle of the XX century contributed to the growing attention of the manufacturing sector to the problems of cargo transportation. Coordination of the activities of the production, distribution and transport systems made it possible to formulate general principles for optimizing the integrated cargo transportation process. The introduction of logistics principles into the practice of transport activities has become a priority. It seems expedient to consider the transformation of approaches to the definition of conceptual provisions of logistics, which will contribute to creating an algorithm for the implementation of the entire complex of logistics operations. The formalization of rules and procedures conditioned by logistics concepts is the basis for the formation of special control actions on the flow processes of cargo movement, finance and information. Four main logistics concepts have been analyzed: the concept of logistics costs, the concept of business process reengineering in logistics, the concept of integrated logistics of the company, and the concept of supply chain management. It has been inferred that the material flow in integrated logistics systems unites the life cycle of the product as a whole, the development of various forms of integration helps to reduce costs by promoting centralized management services, making purchases in large quantities on favorable terms.

Abstract:
Blending technologies play an important role in manufacturing. The design and operation of manufacturing processes using blending technologies represent a special range of manufacturing related logistics because the integrated approach of technological and logistic parameters is very significant. This research proposes an integrated model of supply of manufacturing processes using blending technologies. After a careful literature review, this paper introduces a mathematical model to formulate the problem of supply chain design for blending technologies. The integrated model includes the optimal purchasing strategy depending on the characteristics of components to be mixed in the desired proportion and the costs of supply. The integrated model will be described as a linear programming problem. Numerical results with different datasets demonstrate how the proposed model takes technological and logistic aspects into consideration.

Abstract:
The main theoretical aspects of the features of the formation of the logistics activities of organizations in the modern conditions of the transformation of the world market are considered. The conceptual necessity of using an integration approach in organizing logistics activities, taking into account the influence of factors of the macroeconomic environment, has been substantiated. The main aspects and features of intrafirm and interfirm logistic integration of organizations are interpreted and reasoned, which, in contrast to existing approaches, makes it possible to distinguish this process from its influence on the main activity, taking into account the risk factors. The conceptual factors contributing to the formation of integration processes in the organization in modern conditions of the transformation of the world market are highlighted. It is argued that the modern realities of doing business, regardless of the type of economic activity, necessitate the use of an integrated approach in management when organizing logistics activities. With the help of economic and statistical analysis of the logistics services market in the world, the intensity and need for the use of intrafirm logistics integration are substantiated. The developed theoretical and methodological approach of the integration organization of logistics activities can be applied in practice, taking into account the peculiarities of the economic activities of organizations in modern conditions.

Abstract:
The analysis of the current scientific and methodological principles of project management is performed. It is established that the existing models and methods cannot be used to control the configuration of integrated projects for the creation of logistics systems. The known toolkit provides general approaches to controlling the configuration of projects and does not take into account many factors of the design environment, which determine changes in the configuration of integrated projects for creating logistics systems. It has been substantiated that changes in the configuration of integrated projects for the creation of logistics systems are due to two groups of factors. They can be assessed by four criteria based on the determination of two generalized evaluative characteristics of the influence of the factors of the design environment on changes in the configuration objects of these projects. The scientific and methodological foundations of the configuration control of integrated projects for the creation of logistics systems are proposed, taking into account the changing components of their design environment. To control the configuration of integrated projects for the creation of logistics systems, the use of project management theory and system-factor principles is envisaged, which fully take into account the peculiarities of the implementation of these projects. Based on the proposed model, the impact of internal environment factors of integrated projects for the creation of logistics systems on changes in the configuration object No. 4.1 (a specialized tank truck for transporting perishable goods) was assessed. Significance coefficients are defined for each of the assigned codes (evaluation criteria and factors that determine the configuration changes) of the configuration objects of integrated projects for the creation of logistics systems. Their numerical value is in the range 0…1 and it characterizes the significance of each of the factors for a particular object of the configuration of integrated projects for the creation of logistics systems. Quantitative assessment of the impact of design environment factors on changes in the configuration of integrated projects for the creation of logistics systems is carried out on a 100-point scale.

Abstract:
Abstract:
The logistics concept has been changing, adding new elements and becoming more complex. In the fifties it was restricted to physical distribution only. Nowadays, it embraces the total flow of materials, products and information between the different companies of a supply chain. In this new scenario, organizations in all industries have outsourced their logistics operations to specialized companies called logistics operators. Information technologies (IT) have an important role in the development of logistics activities and in the logistics operator\'s performance: IT applications allow an optimal tuning of the logistics system and an integrated management of its several components. The purpose of this research is to investigate how the logistics operators are applying IT in the logistics process and how IT is contributing to the establishment of value networks. The methodology utilized was the multiple cases study. Five logistic operators that feature different strategic positions and operate with different industries in the Brazilian market were investigated. The sample was chosen so as to provide the information needed for an analysis of all stages of the logistic process. The results of the research indicate that customized applications, suited to the particularities of each operator, play an important role in the creation of competitive advantages, and suggest the centrality of IT in the creation of value networks.

Abstract:
Despite the significant representativeness of the construction sector in the economy, the management of solid waste generated by the sector is still a challenge in most Brazilian municipalities. Construction and Demoliton Waste (CDW) is generated in activities related to the construction, trade and construction materials industry. The CDW when not properly treated and destined besides causing environmental impacts can affect directly or indirectly the health, safety and welfare of the population, interfering in social and economic activities and the quality of environmental resources. In this context, reverse logistics is seen as one of the alternatives for proper waste management, when well planned and executed. Reverse logistics is provided for in Law 12.305/2010, which deals with the National Policy on Solid Waste (NPSW). However, the implementation of reverse logistics is still a challenge for some sectors due to the difficulties inherent in this system and the lack of information regarding operationalization and regulation. In view of this difficulty, this paper aims to evaluate the potential of applying the reverse logistics precepts to the civil construction sector in the city of Curitiba and to propose a conceptual model, highlighting the responsibilities of the main participants in the civil construction production chain. In the first stage of the research, professionals of construction industry were selected to answer, with the help of the Delphi technique, a questionnaire elaborated based on the literature review, in order to select relevant criteria to compose a reverse logistics system to the civil construction sector. In the first round of Delphi, the participants decided on the relevance of the criteria chosen to compose the reverse logistics system and in the second round a multicriteria analysis was carried out with the aid of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) in order to weight and hierarchize the criteria selected. The results were analyzed in the BPMS AHP Excel tool and exported through graphs. In this stage of the research it was demonstrated that the application of Delphi questionnaire in conjunction with the AHP helps the decision making of the agents of the civil construction productive chain. The results point out the importance of the collaborative relationship between customers and suppliers in the return of materials and possible barriers that may hinder the operation of the reverse logistics system in the construction sector, such as a lack of government support, population awareness and a low incentive to CDW reuse. In the stage of idealization and elaboration of the conceptual model, with Free Mind tool, it was possible to highlight the potential of applying the reverse logistics precepts among the main agents of the civil construction production chain in Curitiba. The proposed model assists in understanding the flow of materials in the reverse logistics system and the responsibilities of each service provider in the execution of activities related to civil construction, including the management of CDW, besides compliance with NPSW and minimization of environmental impacts.

Abstract:
AbstractThe integrated planning and control of logistics processes can be seen as one of the basic prerequisites for the successful implementation of smart production systems and smart and lean supply chains, as well. Therefore, modern Industry 4.0 approaches are mainly focusing on (1) the principles of decentralization and (2) the usage of real-time data to improve the overall logistics performance in terms of promised delivery dates, work in progress, capacity utilization, and lead-times. In this context, this chapter systematically evaluates the application of decentralized production planning and control strategies, e.g., KANBAN and CONWIP, in comparison with traditional approaches, like MRP. Moreover, the impact of real-time data usage in production planning and control systems on lead-times and work in progress is investigated using a discrete event simulation based on primary data from a make to order manufacturer. The results of this industrial case study research confirm the significant potential that lies in smart production systems and smart and lean supply chains and, therefore, in the introduction of Industry 4.0 technologies and technological concepts in production and logistics systems.

Abstract:
Container terminals as strategic nodes in global supply chains require improving logistics operations in order to compete. This chapter addresses the problem of how to improve logistics operations to increase the container terminal's throughput and capacity by lean logistics principles and simulation optimization methods. Current research in container terminals is focused on solving specific decision problems at container terminals, e.g., determining the optimal number of equipment to increase productivity. However, there is little evidence of studies related to designing operations to increase performance indicators, such as truck turnaround times or crane productivity, through simulation-optimization models and lean logistics principles. Consequently, the aim of this chapter is to describe a methodological framework for improving logistics operations at container terminals using lean logistics principles and simulation-optimization techniques. A research agenda to explore the applicability and usefulness of the proposed approach on a set of integrated problems is finally proposed.

This chapter primarily provides a thorough account of what the process perspective encompasses to address the attention that business processes perspective in today's postmodern organizations attracts. It exhibits how organizations designed around business processes are able to become more agile, competitive, dynamic, flexible, and adaptable to constantly shifting market realities. Accordingly, this chapter also covers the underlying logic behind business process orientation (BPO) as a comprehensive view of the process perspective. As BPO is thought to offer an integrated approach that encompasses structures of the organizations, their information technology systems and strategies, it is considered to possess qualities that will continuously create value for the global market.

The paper analyzes various inventory management systems used in large foreign firms, based on integrated planning in matters of movement of information and material resources. Logistic systems are characterized by the presence of complex random relationships within these systems, which requires not only the distribution of logistics functions among all participants in the supply chain, but also the integration of individual links in the supply chain into a single system enabling to optimally solve the problems of material and information support at all levels of manufacturing processes and to adequately respond to the effects of external factors. These tasks in modern logistics practice are solved by various planning models described in this paper.

Abstract:
Improvement of the Earth remote sensing technology has led to an active implementation of its results in many areas of human activity with a significant expansion of both the number of industries using remote sensing data and the range of problems to be solved. Agriculture is perhaps the only industry where there is a symbiosis of this data obtained from both spacecraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and ground vehicles with a significant intersection of information used in many sectors of economy, such as cartography, ecology, land management, logistics, construction, weather and climate, etc. Such an integrated use of heterogeneous information from various sources requires developing a digital decryption tool (standard) in the form of a unified geographic information system and a unified conceptual information model of crop production. From such a geographic information system, users could obtain unified digitized images, which would be ready for use and entering into their databases, whereas a unified conceptual information model of crop production, integrating all the knowledge of this industry, should turn into a kind of a publicly available technology. On the other hand, digitalization of the economy has significantly expanded the range of problems to be solved not only in production, but also in science, allowing for purely theoretical scientific research to actively penetrate into production. This also requires appropriate digital standards and managerial structures.

Abstract:
Abstract Biomass-based products (bioproducts) have been introduced as a means to address food-energy-water nexus challenges. However, the existing approaches have not been integrated to convert biomass into market-competitive bioproducts (e.g., biochar and bio-oil). Pretreatment and conversion processes represent the most substantial portion of the total bioproduct cost. This study proposes a portable conversion process for high-quality biochar and bio-oil production, using mixed reactors and advanced cyber-physical infrastructures to promote cross-cutting technological and commercialization opportunities. The proposed portable process converts biomass to bioproducts near the collection sites, which can address collection, staging, and logistics challenges. The fundamental novelty of this study lies in utilizing cyber-physical technologies for advancing pre-/post-conversion processes and crossing the boundaries to meet the market needs. A case study for biochar production from various biomass feedstocks is used to demonstrate and verify the application of the conversion process and the cyber-based advances. The results indicate that the integrated cyber-physical conversion pathway can increase process yield and quality. It is also found that biomass properties and conversion process configurations play a crucial role in determining the process yield and biochar quality in terms of the physical-chemical structure.

Abstract:
The manufacturing of a product takes place in several partial steps and these mostly in different locations to save tax or to use the best providers. Therefore, in the era of Internet of Things (IoT) and modern Intelligent Production Environments (IPE) are going to be inevitably based on a cloud-based repository and distributed architecture to make data and information accessible everywhere as well as development processes and knowledge available for worldwide cooperation. Semantic approaches for knowledge representation and management as well as knowledge sharing, access, and re-use can support Collaborative Adaptive Production Process Planning (CAPP) in a flexible, efficient, and effective way. Thus, semantic representations of such CAPP knowledge integrated into a machine readable process formalization is a key enabling factor for sharing such knowledge in cloud-based knowledge repositories supporting CAPP scenarios as required for e.g., Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). When such contributors work together on a product component production planning, they exchange component production and manufacturing change information between different planning subsystems which require, e.g., a standardized product-feature- and production-machine feature representation. These data exchanges are mostly based on applying the already established Standard for the Exchange of Product model data (STEP) for the computer-interpretable representation and exchange of product manufacturing information. Furthermore, the planning process can be supported by so-called Function Block (FB) based knowledge representation models, serving as a high-level planning-process knowledge-resource template. Web-based and at the same time Cloud-based tool suites, which are based on process-oriented semantic knowledge-representation methodologies, such as Process-oriented Knowledge-based Innovation Management (German: Wissens-basiertes Prozess-orientiertes Innovations Management, WPIM) can satisfy the needs of representing such planning processes and their knowledge resources. In this way, WPIM can be used to support the integration and management of distributed CAPP knowledge, as well as its access and re-use in Manufacturing Change Management (MCM) including Assembly-, Logistics and Layout Planning (ALLP). Therefore, also a collaborative planning and optimization for mass production in a machine readable and integrated representation is possible. On the other hand, that knowledge can be shared within a cloud-based semantic knowledge repository. To integrate all these functionalities, this paper introduces a new method, called Knowledge-based Production Planning (KPP) and outlines the advantages of integrating CAPP with Collaborative Manufacturing Change Management (CMCM). In this way, an enabling basis for achieving ALLP interoperability in Distributed Collaborative Manufacturing and Logistics will be demonstrated.

Abstract Cyber-Manufacturing System (CMS) is a vision for the factory of the future, where manufacturing processes and physical components are seamlessly integrated with computational processes to provide agile, adaptive, and scalable manufacturing services. Functional elements of CMS are digitized, registered, and shared with users and stakeholders through various computer networks and the Internet. CMS incorporates recent advances in the Internet of Things, Cloud Computing, Cyber-Physical System, Service-Oriented Technologies, Modeling and Simulation, Sensor Networks, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, and Advanced Manufacturing Processes. CMS possesses intelligence such as self-monitoring, self-adjustment, self-prediction, self-allocation, self-configuration, self-scalability, self-remediating, and self-reusing. Such intelligent capabilities enable CMS to contribute to manufacturing sustainability. However, prior studies are limited in addressing a narrow scope of CMS or in covering only a subset of sustainability dimensions. This paper addresses the research gap by developing a holistic CMS infrastructure and adopting a Distance-to-Target based sustainability assessment approach to measure the sustainability benefits of CMS. To illustrate how the infrastructure and metrics are used to analyze the sustainability benefits of CMS, an example case is presented. The results show that CMS can deliver substantial sustainability benefits through increased productivity, profitability & energy efficiencies, and reduction of working-in-process (WIP) inventory levels & logistics costs.

Today, in the era of modern Intelligent Production Environments (IPE) and Industry 4.0, the manufacturing of a product takes place in various partial steps and these mostly in different locations, potentially distributed all over the world. The producing companies must assert in the global market and always find new ways to cut costs by saving tax, changing to the best providers, and by using the most efficient and fastest production processes. This is especially required for, e.g., Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). When SMEs work together on a production planning for a joint product, they exchange component production and manufacturing change information between different planning subsystems. These exchanges are mostly based on the already well-established Standard for the Exchange of Product model data (STEP), not least to obtain a computer-interpretable representation. Moreover, so-called Function Block (FB) Domain Models could support these planning process. FBs serve as a high-level planning-process knowledge-resource template and to the representation of knowledge. Furthermore, methodologies are required, which based on process-oriented semantic knowledge-representation, such as Process-oriented Knowledge-based Innovation Management (German: Wissens-basiertes Prozess-orientiertes Innovations Management, WPIM). WPIM is already a web- and cloud-based tool suites and can represent such planning processes and their knowledge resources and can therefore be used to support the integration and the management of distributed CAPP knowledge in Manufacturing Change Management (MCM), as well as its access and re-use. That is also valid for Assembly-, Logistics- and Layout Planning (ALLP). On the one hand, a collaborative planning in a machine-readable and integrated representation will be possible as well as an optimization for mass production. On the other hand, within a cloud-based semantic knowledge repository, that knowledge can be shared with all partners and contributors. To combine all these functionalities, in 2016 we have already introduced a method, called Knowledge-based Production Planning (KPP). We outlined the theoretical advantages of integrating CAPP with Collaborative Manufacturing Change Management (CMCM) in the last year at MSEC16. In this Paper, we will demonstrate our first implementations of the KPP application with an integrated visual direct manipulative process editor as well as a first prototype of our mediator architecture with a semantic integration including a query library based on the KPP ontology.

Abstract:
In its entirety, automation is part of an integrated, multi-disciplinary product development process including the design, process, production, logistics, and systems approach—it depends on all these areas, but it also influences them as well. Automation in aerospace manufacturing is present throughout the entire supply chain, from elementary part manufacturing at suppliers up to final assembly, and a clear understanding of all the benefits (and drawbacks) of automation would help designers and engineers select the right designs for and levels of automation. The Right Level of Automation Within Industry 4.0 examines all impacts of automation that should be known by designers, manufacturers, and companies before investments in automation-related decisions are made—regardless of the which industry they work in. The process and the set of criteria discussed in this report will help decision makers select the right level of automation.
