Hall, Nathan F. "Faculty Attitudes Towards Institutional Repositories." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2014. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc700059/.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to explore faculty attitudes towards institutional repositories in order to better understand their research habits and preferences. A better understanding of faculty needs and attitudes will enable academic libraries to improve institutional repository services and policies. A phenomenological approach was used to interview fourteen participants and conduct eight observations to determine how tenure-track faculty want to disseminate their research as well as their attitudes towards sharing research data. Interviews were transcribed and coded into emerging themes. Participants reported that they want their research to be read, used, and to have an impact. While almost all faculty see institutional repositories as something that would be useful for increasing the impact and accessibility of their research, they would consider publishers’ rights before depositing work in a repository. Researchers with quantitative data, and researchers in the humanities are more likely to share data than with qualitative or mixed data, which is more open to interpretation and inference. Senior faculty members are more likely than junior faculty members to be concerned about the context of their research data. Junior faculty members’ perception’ of requirements for tenure will inhibit their inclination to publish in open access journals, or share data. The study used a novel approach to provide an understanding of faculty attitudes and the structural functionalism of scholarly communication.

Abstract:
The Web has changed the face of scientific communication; and the Semantic Web promises new ways of adding value to research material by making it more accessible to automatic discovery, linking, and analysis. Institutional repositories contain a wealth of information which could benefit from the application of this technology. In this thesis I describe the problems inherent in the informality of traditional repository metadata, and propose a data model based on the Semantic Web which will support more efficient use of this data, with the aim of streamlining scientific communication and promoting efficient use of institutional research output.

Bailey, Charles W. "The Role of Reference Librarians in Institutional Repositories." Emerald, 2005. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/105421.

Full text
Abstract:
Purpose: This paper proposes explaining institutional repositories (IRs) and open access, discussing the relationship of open access to IRs, and examining the possible roles of reference librarians in IRs. Design/methodology/approach: Key IR and open access concepts are clarified and critiqued. New organizational roles for reference libraries are suggested that build on their current functions. Findings: The IR concept is defined, and IRs are shown to be different from scholars' personal web sites, academic department/unit archives, institutional e-print archives, and disciplinary archives. Open access is defined and examined. While the vision of open access is clear, the implementation of the vision is less pure. Open access and IRs are not synonyms: IRs are best seen as an enabling technology for open access. Reference librarians must play a key role in IRs, and ten potential IR support activities for them are identified. Originality/value: This paper orients reference librarians, library administrators, and others to IRs and open access, providing a context for understanding how reference librarians' jobs may be transformed by the emergence of IRs.

Abstract:
Faculty works (e.g. journal articles, conference proceedings) in institutional repositories (IRs) differ from other collections due to their inclination for duplication on other platforms: publisher websites, preprint servers, other IRs, etc. This characteristic can create interesting and different approaches to planning, populating, and promoting faculty works collections. Come to this roundtable discussion to talk about current and future practices related to faculty works in IRs. Share your current policies, procedures, and outreach methods. Brainstorm the ideal future for faculty works collections. And ultimately, consider possible changes to your current practices to make that future into a reality.

Henneberger, Sabine. "Entwicklung einer Analysemethode für Institutional Repositories unter Verwendung von Nutzungsdaten." Doctoral thesis, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Philosophische Fakultät I, 2011. http://dx.doi.org/10.18452/16399.

Full text
Abstract:
With the spread of internet usage over the past decades, access characteristics of electronic scientific publica-tions, especially the number of document downloads, are of increasing interest to the authors, publishers, technical providers and users of such publications. These download data of publications are usually obtained from the protocols of the IT systems of the provider. A data set is then created by filtering all accesses and subsequent summarizing over a certain time unit. Download data are the subject of scientific investigations, in which the concept of the Citation Impact is applied to the rate of use of a publication and the so-called Download Impact is formed. Special attention is paid to the relation between Citation Impact and Download Impact. In the case of Open Access publications, two types of access need to be distinguished. Human access and machine access are both captured and a reliable distinction is not possible yet. As a result, the data obtained for single publications are unreliable and subject to strong fluctuations. Nevertheless, they contain valuable information that can be made useful with the help of mathematical statistics. Analyzed with nonparametric methods, download data give information about the visibility of electronic publications on the Internet. These methods form the core of NoRA (Non-parametric Repository Analysis). With the help of NoRA, the operators of Open Access Repositories are able to analyze the download data of their electronic publications, to identify and correct deficiencies of visibility and to increase the quality of their online platform. The analytical method NoRA was successfully applied to data from Institutional Repositories of four universities. In each case, groups of publications were identified that differed significantly in their usage. Similarities in the results reveal factors that influence the usage data, which have not been taken into account previously. The presented results imply further applications of NoRA but also raise doubts about the value of download data of single publications.

Abstract:
Taking its cue from the increasing amount of digital content deposited into institutional and subject repositories as well as the open question of repositories' role in long-term preservation, this study presents case studies of three German institutional and subject repositories all of which are in a different stage of establishing a (cooperative) framework for the long-term preservation of their digital collections. Drawing on different sets of criteria for trustworthy repositories, it is investigated which strategies the selected repositories pursue to preserve the digital assets in their collections, and how these strategies are implemented with the help of both human repository staff and the repository software used. The following repositories are considered: pedocs (Deutsches Institut für Internationale Pädagogische Forschung), JUWEL (Forschungszentrum Jülich), and Qucosa (SLUB Dresden). In that the latter can be regarded as examples for common types of (German) repositories, the results of this study might on the one hand serve as a guideline for repositories that intend, similar to the ones described here, to explore questions of long-term preservation in the near future, or are even taking their first concrete steps in this field. On the other hand, it is hoped that this work can at least give some hints as to the stage and status of long-term preservation in the German repository landscape.

Galina, Russell I. "Electronic resources and institutional repositories in informal scholarly communication and publishing." Thesis, University College London (University of London), 2009. http://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/17428/.

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of institutional repositories is to aid the management and dissemination of the increasingly copious amount of scholarly electronic resources produced by academics. To date most research has focused on the impact for formal scholarly publishing. The purpose of this exploratory study is to discover the impact of IRs on the visibility and use of digital resources with particular focus on resources outside the formal publishing framework. An online survey and interviews with repository managers were conducted. A link analysis study was undertaken to determine what types of web resources were linking to items within repositories. The findings show that a wide range of non-formal e-resources are accepted and repository managers’ attitudes are positive towards their importance. In practice the range of resources is limited and mainly text based. The development of typologies for non-formal resources is done in an ad hoc manner. Workflow processes for content acquisition in repositories vary considerably and are quite complex in particular for non-formal e-resources. The findings show a lack of cohesive discourse between repository objectives and collection policies and actual work flow processes. Repository managers consider usage data important and its most popular uses are for advocacy and securing funding. Interpretation of usage data focuses on formal resources but evidence suggests that non-formal resources play an important part in repository visibility. Blogs, academic pages and discussion forums are important web sources that link to items within repositories. The study demonstrates that institutional repositories are not particularly successful at handling resources outside the framework of formal publishing. The system caters largely towards eprints, in particular postprints. A fundamental challenge, if scholarly communication is to move towards new forms of communication and publishing enabled by digital technologies, is to find ways to effectively name, manage and integrate non-formal electronic resources into the institutional repository.

Klungthanaboon, Wachiraporn. "Stakeholders' perspectives of institutional repositories in National Research Universities in Thailand." Thesis, University of Glasgow, 2015. http://theses.gla.ac.uk/6450/.

Full text
Abstract:
Unrestricted accessible scholarly resources are increasingly considered essential to knowledge creation and socio-economic development. In order to facilitate this, university libraries at National Research Universities (NRUs) in Thailand have established institutional repositories (IRs). The development of the Open Access publishing movement also provides opportunities and challenges to NRUs’ IRs and scholarly community. Like others, the IR projects in Thailand have experienced low awareness and content contribution from stakeholders. Accordingly, this study aims to optimize the established IR projects in NRUs in Thailand by exploring the stakeholders’ research publishing behaviour, and the perception, participation, and utilisation of IRs. This study advances the understanding of IRs in NRUs in Thailand from the perspectives of multiple stakeholder groups. This inductive qualitative study employs Constructivist Grounded Theory as a research methodology. Theoretical sampling, convenient sampling, and purposive sampling were used to recruit key participants in Thai scholarly communication at three NRUs. An in-depth semi-structured interview method was used to collect data and Charmaz’s Grounded Theory Method of Open coding and Focused coding was used to analyse it. The analysis resulted in the generation of the 4Cs (/foresee/) Model for the Development of University-based IRs. It composes of “Communication” “Collaboration”, “Copyright understanding”, “Control” and “Local academic culture”. This innovative model provides an explanatory framework identifying the factors for the availability and accessibility of full-text digital research publications in Thai university-based IRs. Moreover, the 3Rs – Rethinking, Redefining, and Re-collaborating- are recommended as key activities to be considered when confronting the difficulties in the development of IRs. In addition, this study also proposes the “2PSC model for operational excellence – Policies, Procedure, Services, and Competencies” as a practical and effective mechanism for managing IRs. Further, the study offers theoretical, methodological, and empirical contributions to the understanding of IRs in NRUs in Thailand from the perspectives of multiple stakeholder groups.

Ammarukleart, Sujira. "Factors Affecting Faculty Acceptance and Use of Institutional Repositories in Thailand." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2017. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc984189/.

Abstract:
Institutional repositories have been introduced as an innovative and alternative technology for scholarly communication and have received considerable attention from scholars across disciplines and around the globe. While some universities in Thailand have developed and implemented institutional repositories for nearly a decade, knowledge of the acceptance and use of institutional repositories on the individual level in the country remains limited. As an insufficient knowledge of technology acceptance and adoption at the individual level is considered partially responsible for the underutilization of innovation or of information system implementation, this study seeks to uncover knowledge regarding the level of institutional repository acceptance and use. This study applied the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model and the model of faculty members' self-archiving behavior to investigate factors affecting faculty acceptance and use of university-based institutional repositories. The study employed a mixed methods approach involving a survey followed by semi-structured, one-to-one interview. This study confirms that the success of university-based institutional repositories depends not on a single factor but on multiple factors. The results of the study show that performance expectancy, social influence, and resistance to change were direct determinants of faculty members' intention to use institutional repositories. Additionally, behavioral intention and altruism were found to be the main determinants of actual usage behavior. The findings of this study imply that education in and promotion of open access and institutional repositories are essential and can play an important role in the adoption of institutional repositories. Finally, this study suggests that sustained dialogue and collaborative efforts among faculty members (as contributors and users), libraries/librarians (as institutional repository developers and managers), and other stakeholders within communities are essential for the adoption and success of university-based institutional repositories.

Objective: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the progress so far made by Uugandan universities in establishing Institutional Repositories (IRs) Methods: A questionnaire was designed and distributed among the member institutions of the Consortium of Uganda Uuniversity Librarries (CUUL). Data received from the questionnaires was augmented by osite visits, discussions and interviews with the university libraries. Results: Despite numerous benefits associated with IRs, few institutions have established IRs in Uganda due to certain barriers. This paper argues that although these imbalances are manifested, opportunities still exists for the establishment of IRs for national development. Recommendations: The paper emphasizes the need for partnerships with the different stakeholders in the planning and developing institutional repositories. Conclusions: Insitutional repositories should be considered as principal benchmarks of digital scholarship. Originality/value – It is believed that higher institutions of learning and communities would benefit substantially from establishing IRs. However, it can only be possible with well developed infrastructure, increased funding, coordination and advocacy.

Abstract:
Open access (OA) to scholarly publishing is encouraged and enabled by new technologies such as the Internet, the World Wide Web, their standards and protocols, and search engines. Institutional repositories (IR) as the most recent technological incarnations of OA enable researchers and their institutions to make accessible the outputs of research. While many OA repositories are being implemented, researchers are surprisingly slow in adopting them. While activists promote OA as emanating from the ideals of scholarship, others revile OA as undermining of scholarly publishing's economic base and therefore undermining quality control and peer review. Change is occurring but there are contested views and actions. This research seeks to increase understanding of the issues by addressing the research questions: "How and why is open access reassembling scholarly publishing?" and "What role does introducing an open access institutional repository to researchers play in this reassembly?" This thesis contributes to answering these questions by investigating two IR implementations and the research communities they serve. The research was conducted as an Actor-Network Theory (ANT) field study, where the actors were followed and their relations and controversies explored in action as their landscape was being contested. The research found that central to our understanding of the reassembling of scholarly publishing is the agency emerging from the sociomaterial relations of the OA vision, IR technology and researchers. Being congruent with the aims of scholarship, and also being flexible and mutable, the OA vision enrols researchers to enact it through OA IR, thus transforming scholarly communications. This is counteracted by publishers aligned with the academic reward network within traditional publishing networks. In this delicate choreography the OA IR, its developers, researchers, university administrators and policy makers are merging as critical actors with their more or less congruent vision of OA enacted in their network. The comparative ANT account of the two IR life stories shows how such enactment depends on the degree to which different OA visions could converge, enrol and mobilise other actors, in particular institutional actors, such as a mandate, in transforming researchers' publishing behaviour. This thesis contributes to a novel and in-depth understanding of OA and IR and their roles in reassembling scholarly publishing. It also contributes to the use of ANT in information systems research by advancing a sociomaterial ontology which recognises the intertwining of human and material agency.

Abstract:
This paper reviews how Open Access policies (OA) and Institutional Repositories (IR) might be portrayed as agents of change within the realm of scholarly publishing. Using commentary on academic publishing as background, commentary that sees OA and IR as optimal and inevitable, and beneficially disruptive of the existing system, two theoretical approaches are presented as ways of providing a more detailed and explicit analysis of OA/IR dynamics. Both theories to varying degrees derive their inspiration from an exploration of the nature of change. The first â disruptive technology/disruptive innovationâ approach (Christensen) specifies change in market theory terms, a re-structuring "driven" by innovation within, and possibly disruptive of, existing market arrangements. The second approach views change as a process of "reassembling" and reconfiguring of relationships between elements of a network (Actor-Network Theory). The application of both approaches to OA/IR is explored, including reference to a case study on a university institutional repository implementation. While "disruption" and similar terms might be in common and casual use, the basic idea gains greater clarity in these theories, and in doing so promotes greater awareness of the assumptions being made, and the aspirations being pursued.

Abstract:
The domain of scholarly publishing is undergoing rapid change. Change has been instigated and produced by the Internet and open access systems â such as disciplinary and institutional repositories and open access journals. However traditional scholarly publishing is strengthening its hold over prestigious journals thus resisting change. How then does the change come about? An attempt at answering this question led us to examine an institutional repository initiative in a University. As we identified and followed the actors (researchers, research papers, reward systems, institutional repository technology, library staff, RQF, etc.) we saw the emergence of new publishing practices and the forces preserving the old ones. By adopting Actor Network Theory (ANT) we came to understand the materiality, relationality and ambiguity of processes of reassembling scholarly publishing. This paper presents preliminary results and thereby informs a wider debate and shaping of open access and scholarly publishing.

Full text
Abstract:
Open access institutional repositories (OA IRs) are electronic systems that capture, preserve, and provide access to the scholarly digital work of an institution. As a new channel of scholarly communications IRs offer faculty a new way to disseminate their work to a wider audience, which in turn can increase the visibility to their work and impact factors, and at the same time increase institutions prestige and value. However, despite the increased popularity of IRs in numbers, research shows that IRs remain thinly populated in large part due to faculty reluctance to participate. There have been studies on the topic of open access repositories with the focus on external factors (social or technological context) that affect faculty attitudes towards participation in IRs, and there is a lack of understanding of the internal factors and the psychology of the reluctance. The goal of this mix method study was to identify the overall factors that affect faculty attitudes towards participation in IRs and examine the extent to which these factors influenced faculty willingness to participate in IRs. First, from literature review and the Model of Factors Affecting Faculty Self-Archiving this study identified eleven factors that influenced faculty members' intention to participate in OA repositories. Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) postulated that faculty intention to participate in IR was determined by three categories of factors: five attitudinal, four external (social) and two individual factors. Within the framework of the TPB this study (1) confirmed the measurement scale for each factor using principal component analysis, (2) it examined the influence that each factor had on the faculty likelihood to participate in IR using logistic regression, and (3) it weighted the relative importance of each factor on faculty intent to participate, utilizing relative weight analysis. Quantitative analysis revealed that four out of 11 factors proved to be statistically significant in faculty members' intention to participate in IRs; difficulty with the submission process, discoverability access and readership, altruism, and faculty perception of IRs as low-quality publishing venues. While qualitative analysis revealed that more than half of the faculty remain unfamiliar with OA and its goals, and while they supported the principles of OA, they also had a myriad of concerns regarding participation in IRs.

Institutional repositories emerge as a new approach to manage and maintain effectively the intellectual assets of an institute through the digital content for scholarly communication. It includes e-prints of research data, e-learning materials and other forms of institutional intellectual outputs, which are generally not available or preserved elsewhere. Digital publishing, global networking, new researches, and improved communication among scholars are driving the demand for broader access. In the present scenario, IR’s are become an indispensable component for information and knowledge sharing in the universities and higher education world. The Institutional Repository increased visibility reflects a high quality of scholarship; this display of value can translate into tangible benefits including the funding from public and private sources that drives in part from an institution status and reputation. The paper explores and discusses the conceptual development, benefits, standard, sustainability & funding of Institutional repositories. Paper has also discussed about the open source software’s and Commercial Digital Repository Software that are available to create and maintain in institutional repositories. This paper also tries to explore the contents of IRs and skill requirement for the implantations of the successful Institutional Repository.

Abstract:
Scholarly and scientific communication has a long history, while the Open Access (OA) movement began to take part in this communication with the emergence of Internet in the late 1960s and the web that emerged in mid-1990s. OA is beneficial for sharing knowledge because the OA movement demands scholarly literature freely available on the internet and it is free of most licensing restriction copyright. OA will close the barrier of access to knowledge. The OA movement in Indonesia may be considered slow. So far, only 33 academic libraries have registered their repositories with OpenDOAR, which is still small compared to the total number of HE institutions in Indonesia. Those 33 OARs vary in the stages of development. Some have already had large size of contents, while others are still developing. Using Weiner’s theory of organizational readiness for change, this mixed method investigates the readiness of academic librarians for Open Access Repository implementation. The results show that academic librarians in Indonesia are somewhat familiar with OA and OAR. However, their understanding of OA is still limited to the technical nature of it. They also know the benefits of OA in relation to scholarly communication and are ready to implement OAR, but the implementation was mostly based on the goal of achieving a specific rank in the world-class university ranking and Webometrics. They implemented Open Access Repositories with limited technological infrastructure, skills, and limited knowledge of OA.

Institutional Repositories (IRs) and ETD programs conducted in December 2011. The purpose of the survey was two-fold. The first was to show the growth of Institutional Repositories (IRs) across Canada. The second was to illustrate the state of the electronic theses and dissertations (ETD) submission programs at Canadian institutions. The survey was a follow up to a 2009 survey and illustrates there has been steady growth in both the number of IRs and ETD programs in Canada. Results of the survey include statistics on the number of IRs, types of materials in the IRs, the type software platform, the number of ETD programs, whether electronic submission is mandatory, if embargoed or restricted theses and dissertations are allowed, the number of institutions having their ETDs harvested by Library and Archives Canada and the number of institutions sending their theses to ProQuest and retaining a microfiche copy. The survey was sent to Canadian institutions where a thesis or dissertation is required for graduation and to Canadian institutions who are members of the Canadian Association for Research Libraries. Responses were received from 33 institutions. Best practices for ETD programs and workflows will also be discussed. Focus areas include the PDF format for multiple and multi-media files, OAI-PMH harvesting, mandatory submission and embargoes. By analyzing the results of the survey, it is clear that Canada is moving forward quickly in the implementation of ETD submission programs. The fact that over 70% of Canadian institutions have their ETDs harvested by Library and Archives Canada puts Canada, and it’s National Library, in a unique position to share its knowledge and expertise in ETD programs and ETD workflows.

In 2008 the Peruvian Network for Digital Theses (RPTD) started with 4 universities. According to the National Association of Rectors (ANR, in Spanish), there are 77 universities in Peru, both public and private; 12 of them have an electronic theses portal, and only 9 share their metadata through the OAI-PMH protocol. Relying on strategic alliances, RPTD has rendered more visible scientific information produced in Peru, and has promoted the creation of other portals hosting digital theses and other contents as in the case of AMAUTA, the First Peruvian Digital Repository. It is not a surprise that AMAUTA and RPTD have some common features in design and functioning. Contents collected in RPTD and AMAUTA pose challenges that must be addressed so we can secure a sustainable functioning in time. First, these repositories centralize information so they and make access faster; make possible the re-utilization of data and the generation of other online scientific projects (UNMSM Research Journals); help identify deficiencies in bibliographic description and identifiers, helping us in the elaboration of proposals for the standardization of the bibliographical description and the creation of a authorities data base. These are some of the activities proposed and designed in this article, including challenges faces and possible solutions.

Abstract:
Recently the technological and organizational infrastructures of institutional repositories have been questioned. For example the British so-called Finch report  from last summer argued that further development, as well as higher standards of accessibility of repositories, are needed in order to make them better integrated and interoperable to ultimately bring greater use by both authors and readers. Not only the technical frameworks and presumably low usage levels are criticized but also the lack of “clear policies on such matters as the content they will accept, the uses to which it may be put, and the role that they will play in preservation”. The report concludes that: “In practice patterns of deposit are patchy”. As in the UK, today, all universities and university colleges in Sweden, except a couple of very small and specialized ones, do have an institutional repository. A majority (around 80%) are working together on a co-operative basis within the DiVA Publishing System with the Electronic Publishing Centre at Uppsala University Library acting as the technical and organizational hub. Because the system is jointly funded, and the members contribute according to their size, it has been possible even for smaller institutions with limited resources to run a repository with exactly the same functionalities as the biggest universities. In this presentation we want to demonstrate the ever-increasing importance of institutional repositories in Sweden. Starting more than a decade ago the DiVA Consortium has, for some time, been addressing the problems now raised by the Finch report in a number of areas.

The NDLTD Union Catalog is an international collection of ETD metadata that is harvested from various institutional, regional and cross-institutional collections. The Union Catalog has grown substantially in the 10 years since its launch and now contains almost 2 million records. However, various issues have surfaced during the maintenance of the Union Catalog and its downstream service providers. For example, at this scale, the well-known best practice of the OAI-PMH to restrict the size of a response to 100 records or 1MB has a severe impact on harvesting time. This paper describes this problem and other issues that are relevant to the Union Catalog and similar projects. For each such issue, solutions are discussed. Together these present a set of guidelines not only for large union catalogues but also for the design of large digital library collections in general.

One of the reasons that we know so little of ancient life is because much of written history of those times has been lost. We can only speculate what really happened. If only we had not lost all the treasures…If only we had preserved that knowledge somewhere else or in some other medium, then probably mankind need not have to start all over again re-discovering knowledge. The loss of knowledge is due to three reasons - Disasters, Media Deterioration, and Alternative Formats & Obsolete Technology A clear idea about what could be lost will only lead us to take precautionary steps or to lessen the damage. Within a library and information service (LIS), the most likely disasters are fire or flood, but those caused by wind, earthquakes and other natural phenomena can also happen. Acts of sabotage or terrorism may occur which can destroy, or seriously disrupt the LIS. And with more and more information being held in electronic format, computer disasters, whether caused by system failure or unauthorized access and hacking into files, are becoming more common. Information is necessarily recorded on some kind of medium. All media deteriorate over time, at different rates and for different reasons. When information is provided in alternative formats – for example microforms or digitized form - equipment for using them must not only be provided, but also kept maintained in good working condition. Preserving long-term access to digital information resources is one of the key challenges facing libraries and information centers today. The paper iterates what steps have been taken by Physical Research Laboratory, Library to overcome this challenge.

Abstract:
This study sought to evaluate the development and use of Institutional Repository by staff and students at the University of Fort Hare (UFH) in Eastern Cape, South Africa. In this study, staff comprised of academic staff (lecturers) and library staff. The aim of this study was to investigate the development and use of Institutional Repository at UFH. To achieve the objectives, both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies were employed. Data was collected through questionnaires and face-to-face interviews. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the participants of the study. Qualitative data was analysed thematically while, quantitative data was analysed statically by help of SPSS software. The results showed that: library staff and management are aware and provide support for the development and use of the Institutional Repository at the UFH; awareness level of IR among lecturers and students is still low; the infrastructure available for the use of IR is not well developed; and lastly, library users which consist of students and academic staff face various barriers in the use and support of IR development. The study recommended for dynamic training, and marketing of IR through seminars and workshops should be started by expert affiliations and universities administration to advance the idea of IR among the University community. Low levels of awareness of the university repository, funding and shortage of library staff remains an issue and could be addressed by further investigating the effectiveness of different communication channels. It is pertinent that the findings of this study would be useful in various tertiary’s institutions of higher learning across the globe in order to embark on IR.

Full text
Abstract:
Altmetrics derived from Twitter have potential benefits for institutional repository (IR) stakeholders (faculty, students, administrators, and academic libraries) when metrics aggregators (Altmetric, Plum Analytics) are integrated with IRs. There is limited research on tweets mentioning works in IRs and how the results impact IR stakeholders, specifically libraries. In order to address this gap in the literature, the author conducted a content analysis of tweets tracked by a metrics aggregator (Plum X Metrics) in a Digital Commons IR. The study found that the majority of tweets were neutral in attitude, intended for a general audience, included no hashtags, and were written by users unaffiliated with the works. The results are similar to findings from other studies, including low numbers of tweeted works, high numbers of tweets neutral in attitude, and evidence of self-tweets. The discussion addresses these results in relation to the value of tweets and suggested improvements to Twitter metrics based on IR stakeholders’ needs.

Hardy, Rachel L. "The future of UK university presses in the electronic environment." Thesis, Loughborough University, 2005. https://dspace.lboro.ac.uk/2134/8276.

Full text
Abstract:
Scholarly communication of all types is changing dramatically with the introduction of electronic technologies. This new environment means that standalone print publishing risks being left behind, and as many STM journals acquired or launched by commercial publishers have been subject to dramatic price rises in the last few years, there has been much talk of ways to by-pass commercial publishers. The scholarly publishing market is fertile ground for innovation and there has been a lack of objective research regarding the UK university press. Despite the many changes that have occurred in the scholarly publishing industry in recent years, university presses in the UK that have not been in the forefront of innovation have remained minor players. The research focused on the university press, it's current situation and it's role in the electronic future. The research included: case studies that were conducted at both UK and USA university presses, along with the corresponding libraries, a questionnaire which was sent to academic authors that had published with both a university press and a commercial publishing house, and both qualitative and quantitative questionnaires sent to all operating UK university press directors. The thesis argues that university presses (in particular the smaller presses), as not for-profit organisations, are in a prime position to increase their power in the scholarly publishing system and can make changes to provide valued services to the Higher Education Community. Findings show that university presses, both in the USA as well as the UK, have faced, and continue to face change. Lack of funding and HEI support continues to make the traditional publishing role of the university presses difficult, and, in many cases, has caused the closure and sale of university presses in the UK. The university press continues to play an important role, and will continue to do so in the near future. However, in order for smaller university presses in the UK to remain sustainable, they must continue to adapt to, and take advantage of, change, recognise the value they add to the scholarly communication system and not rely on others to improve their situation. They cannot remain static in a changing environment. Through the work with university presses three potential business plans are proposed for a UK organisation of university presses, along with two business models to help the presses adapt to the changing environment and continue to play a role that is required by the HEI. Based on the results and conclusions of the research recommendations are made to stakeholders and ideas for further research are identified.

Abstract:
Creating cost-effective and time efficient methods to complete tasks is necessary to maintain speedy and quality services expected by library patrons. Charles C. Sherrod Library at East Tennessee State University uses Zotero (a free, online reference management software) as a tool to expedite the process of entering faculty scholarship metadata into the institutional repository (IR), Digital Commons@ETSU (https://dc.etsu.edu). Additionally, Sherrod Library integrated Zotero with SHERPA/RoMEO (a database of publishers’ policies) to automate the process of determining which full-text materials can be included in the IR. Sherrod Library evaluated the usefulness of Zotero by examining the records entered into the software within a year. Complete and incomplete records were calculated in terms of disciplines and document types. Based on the results of the study, Sherrod Library now primarily uses Zotero for journal articles, books, and book contributions by STEM faculty. The disciplines of education and arts/humanities and the document types of newsletters/magazine articles and conference proceedings had too many incomplete records to justify using Zotero. This poster will visually represent the workflow of using Zotero through a chart and the results of the study through graphs. The workflow chart may be beneficial to an audience trying to automate their data entry. The results of the study may be of interest to anyone who uses or recommends reference management software in their position.

Utulu, Samuel Chiedu. "Challenges of information systems innovation in developing country contexts: an inquiry into the adoption of institutional repositories in Nigerian universities." Doctoral thesis, Faculty of Commerce, 2019. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/30444.

Abstract:
Empirical observation persistently shows that information systems (IS) innovation is always hampered by different challenges. The number of failures and incomplete IS innovation reported across the globe, particularly in developing countries justifies this. Using the example of institutional repository (IR), an IS used to promote open access to scientific knowledge produced by universities, this study proposes actionable remedies to challenges of IS innovation in universities in developing countries. This study focuses on IR because little of it exists in universities in developing countries despite the fact that it is a cost effective way for universities to distribute scientific knowledge. IR has also not been a major focus of IS researchers despite its importance in the contemporary global academic landscape. The study therefore aims to develop explanation and solutions to barriers to IR innovation in universities in developing countries. The qualitative interpretive research philosophy was adopted together with the case study research method to conduct three empirical studies. Inductive research approach and unstructured qualitative data collection techniques were also adopted. Study 1 was carried out to assess IR innovation barrier factors at the institutional level. It reveals how globalization trends, transformation of universities and conditions of university libraries constitute IR innovation factors at institutional level. Study 2 was carried out to assess IR innovation barrier factors at the organizational level. It shows how institutional logics, adherence by universities to traditional university management orientations and paradox barrier factors constitute IR innovation factors at the organizational level. Study 3 identifies factors that influence effective tacit knowledge management at the individual level. The factors are namely, privileged information and experiences, mental reflection, planned interactions and dialogues and sustained real-time enactment of IR innovation. The three studies provide a set of theoretical and practical insights that contribute to the IS discipline, IS in developing countries and IR innovation. The contributions show how institutional, organizational and individual level factors influence IR innovation. The study reaches its goal of providing understanding and resolution to IS innovation barriers in universities in developing countries and in contexts that have similar socio-technical characteristics.

Abstract:
East Tennessee State University developed a workflow to add journal publications to their institutional repository and faculty profiles using three tools: Zotero for entering metadata, SHERPA/RoMEO for checking copyright permissions, and Unpaywall for locating full-text documents. This study evaluates availability and accuracy of the information and documents provided by Zotero, SHERPA/RoMEO, and Unpaywall for journal publications in four disciplines. The tools were less successful with works authored by arts and humanities and education faculty in comparison to works authored by medicine and health sciences and social and behavioral sciences faculty. The findings suggest that publisher practices contributed to the disciplinary differences.

The purpose of this thesis is to suggest guidelines for policies related to the settling of institutional repositories (IRs) under development at UFF. Institutional repositories are analyzed in a broad way, especially in the topics related to policy, institutional environment, management, implementation, and technology. The crucial of the research is centered around four themes: typology of the documents, form of deposit; copyright; diffusion and marketing. The analysis is qualitative and exploratory, building on the existing theoretical and empirical literature on the subject. In particular, the existing empirical literature analyses the developing of IRs at UERJ, Fiocruz and Inmetro. The development of IRs at UFF is developed from semi-structured interviews to members of the UFF community, who presented their views on processes of data collection, Open Access to various databases, development of IRs, and broader information policies. The motivation of this research builds on the growing importance of IRs to the academic community, mostly due to the greater visibility it gives to the intellectual production and the research universities. In conclude, this research builds on the existing literature, experiments investigated and the interviews of members of the UFF to present guidelines for the development of settlements of institutional repositories under construction at UFF.

Abstract:
The object of the research is to show the extent of legal challenges that South African librarians encounter with regard to support for public access to research-related information through open access practices such as institutional (research) repositories. This study employs an interdisciplinary approach combining library and information science with Private Law. By making use of a social-legal approach the focus is on the legal challenges institutional repository managers face in managing online, publicly accessible platforms in a legally compliant manner. The global flow of information through the concepts of “open science”, “open access”, “open data”, and the role these play in the broader development of a knowledge society is explored. Through a systemic approach the different role-players, legislation, regulations, regulatory bodies, institutional policies and copyright agreements with (largely international) academic publishers are taken into account. Legal challenges with regard to copyright restrictions, contracts with publishers, leasing of material and the use of Creative Commons licensing are categorised and explained in relation to the extent of repository services. The study also takes into account the changes that might arise from the Copyright Amendment Bill, showing that open science initiatives require a combination of approaches (not just legal reform) if the current scholarly publishing system is to change. A twofold practical component attempts to make the study a useful resource for information specialists by: (i) undertaking a case study of legal and institutional regulations and of repositories by exploring the different regulatory systems and the legal challenges faced in the running of the UPSpace repository (University of Pretoria); (ii) establishing basic guidelines for librarians and information workers on good legal practices for maintaining an institutional repository in South Africa, by balancing legal requirements and the drive for public access to scholarly knowledge.

Abstract:
The Consortium of Uganda University Libraries' (CUUL) primary objective is to provide a forum for addressing issues that face Ugandan university libraries. Other objectives are: to standardise operations and promote the adoption of new library-related developments. One of these developments is establishing institutional repositories (IRs). Institutions of higher learning worldwide embrace IRs as a way of disseminating institutional scholarly output at a globally. Ugandan institutions are not exceptional. However, despite the level of interest and the rate of adoption by university libraries in Uganda, only one institution and one research organisation in the Central Region of Uganda have managed to implement their IRs to meet Open Directory of Open Access Repositories' (OpenDOAR) standards. The aim of this study was to investigate the role that CUUL could play in helping member institutions establish successful IRs that meet OpenDOAR standards. The objectives of the study included finding out what defines a successful IR project internationally, the state of IR implementation in the Central Region of Uganda and what CUUL could do to implement successful repositories in the member institutions in the Central Region of Uganda. The study was qualitative, carried out in the central region of Uganda as a case study targeting CUUL member institutions. Respondents were purposively sampled, results were thematically analysed using spreadsheets and results presented in tables in chapter four. Conclusions and recommendations were made according to the findings. It was revealed that most of the CUUL member institutions had embarked on the process of IR implementation developing them in-house without the necessary skilled technical personnel. Consequently, they had many challenges both technical and operational. Conclusively, many institutions had not successfully implemented IRs. CUUL could assist in the implementation of successful IRs by either offering Software as a Service (SaaS) or by assessing individual institutions and help each at their point of need. For any approach chosen, members were willing to actively work with CUUL to have better and successful IR services.

Abstract:
With the purpose to investigate policies within long-term preservation of digital media in the modern world of Open Access institutional repository, this two year's master thesis was conducted through a qualitative study with quantitative overtures. The main objectives of this thesis centre on the criteria for long-term digital preservation, preservation in relation to institutional repositories, the issues cropping up within the field of institutional repositories, and the essential components of a preservation policy. The theoretical framework is constructed around a model based upon scholarly communication, with its aspects of dissemination, acquisition, preservation, discovery and access, and with the facet of preservation at its centre. The methodology of this study is cued to content analysis and its in-depth investigative process, which was conducted on a sample of ten preservation policies within Open Access institutional repositories that were compared to a standardised expert set of policy categorisation. The results show that a perfect preservation policy does not appear to exist in the current world, based exclusively on the selected sample. This gives a strong indication of a need for further research within the field of Open Access institutional repositories preservation policies.

Abstract:
This dissertation addresses a specific aspect of the broad area of communication systems used among researchers. This research has undertaken to establish a broader view of the communication practices of scholars to understand the motivations behind their publication choices. Open access offers a solution to issues with the scholarly publication system such as delays in publication and restricted visibility of research due to high subscription costs. The principle of open access is to enable maximum access to findings from publicly funded research to maximise social returns on public investments. Despite the apparent benefits of open access, the uptake has been limited. ¶ This thesis research takes a holistic view of the researcher as a communicator to uncover the reasons why researchers are making the publishing decisions they are. In-depth interviews were conducted with 43 researchers in three disciplines at two institutions, the Australian National University and the University of New South Wales. The disciplines, Chemistry, Sociology and Computer Science, were known to have different publication practices, The questions asked about all aspects of researcher communication including researching, authoring, informal communication, article submission, refereeing, mentoring and data storage. ¶ The findings show that traditional arguments for open access are ineffective. The Reward function of scholarly publishing is central to managing academic careers and supports traditional publishing systems. While having work openly accessible increases an academic’s exposure and possibly therefore their citation counts, unless alternative internet-based forms of metrics are adopted, the open access option will not directly appeal to researchers. ¶ Information-seeking behaviour demonstrates how disciplinary differences affect researcher’s interaction with technology. The disciplines showed marked differences in almost all the areas explored, and the behavioural norms expressed in each discipline have direct bearing on the likelihood of members of that discipline embracing open access. The ‘institutional/disciplinary divide’ means that researchers must publish in ways that run counter to their disciplinary norms in order to satisfy institutional and grant funding requirements. ¶ Until governments, and particularly university administrations, recognise the need to consider the discipline and the need to consider the individual and respond to these needs, and until there is a realisation that different disciplines may require radically different approaches, there will not be a large-scale adoption by individual researchers of the current open access tools. Either institutional repositories need to adapt dramatically to offer work practice benefits or the broader academic population will only use institutional repositories under duress, which is not the situation envisaged by open access advocates. The alternative is for communities to develop their own subject-based repositories, a development that again is likely to be highly dependent on communication norms in different disciplines.

Challenges include optimizing the use and reuse of data and opportunities, developing infrastructure with implementation of data repositories and all activities inherent to them such as management, description, dissemination, integration, copyright, privacy, where appropriate, quality and preservation of data set. The Data Management Plan is a document composed of guidelines that guide the researchers in the articulation to release their datasets that will be deposited in the repositories. The guidelines outlined in the Data Management Plan need to be explicit in relation to copyright issues. The licensing of data clearly establishes the terms of use avoiding future legal problems. Creative Commons and Open Data Commons licenses are used to license data and justify the aims of this research which consists of investigating how the data repositories of the world's top 100 universities spell out in their Data Management Plans the recommendations related to copyright of data. The methodology used was based on quantitative and qualitative research, including an exploratory-descriptive study. The data collection was done in the Data Management Plans of the repositories implemented in the 100 best universities in the world. The results show that most of the universities analyzed have implemented a data repository, but not all repositories have PGDs and copyright guidelines.

The exponential increase in the production of scientific data and information is directly associated with the evolution of digital information and communication technologies and, in view of this scenario, it is noticed the need for institutions to implement digital information environments that can bring them together, organize them, disseminate and preserve them. Institutional repositories, objects of study of this research, are potential environments for such actions; its implementation, however, must meet the information needs of its target audience, making it necessary to apply methods, techniques and attributes that promote the finding of scientific information. With the objective of verifying that institutional repositories have been implemented based on attributes that enable information to be found by information subjects, this study uses as reference the institutional repositories of the three state universities of the state of São Paulo - USP, UNESP and UNICAMP. In order to achieve the objectives of the research, the four-pole method is used, which allows dynamicity and flexibility for the development of the study through its four poles: epistemological, theoretical, technical and morphological. The epistemological pole addressed the post-custodial paradigm of Information Science and Post-Phenomenology to support the study, epistemologically. The theoretical pole allowed the search for contributions related to the themes that permeate the research object, namely: Digital Repositories, with emphasis on Institutional Repositories, DSpace as technology for implementation, and Information Findability. The technical pole evidences the methodological procedures for carrying out the study: bibliographical research and literature review to address the epistemological and theoretical foundations mentioned, as well as applied research, which occurred in two phases, the first being the application of the "Checklist for evaluation of Information Finding in Institutional Repositories "in the institutional repositories of USP, UNESP and UNICAMP, through the observation technique, and the second refers to the application of tasks to the masters of the Graduate Programs in Education and Speech-Language Pathology of UNESP of Marília, from the eye-tracking technology, in the three repositories, being executed, along with the technique of verbal protocol and, later, interviews. The morphological pole is intended to present the results of the research, as well as to the proposed recommendations for the institutional repositories analyzed. From the evaluation with the checklist, the results revealed problems related to the attributes Folksonomy, Information Discovery and Accessibility and Usability, in the three repositories. In at least one of them, problems were observed with the attributes: Navigational Taxonomies, Mediation of Information Professionals and Mobility, Convergence and Ubiquity. Considering the limitations of this technique of data collection, it was not possible to evaluate the attributes of terminological control instruments, intentionality and mediation of computer scientists. In a second moment, it was possible to evaluate the attribute of Information Discovery with eye-tracking technology. After the evaluations, ten information retrieval recommendations were generated for institutional repositories.

Abstract:
This study examined the relationship between policies and practices of the university research data institutional repository Edinburgh DataShare in the context of the management of research data, based on the following categories: responsibility, content, legal aspects, standards, digital preservation, policy access and use, and sustainability and financing. The methodology was a qualitative case study of survey documents and data on the Internet and direct observation of the repository. It used NVivo software for recording and data analysis. The characteristics of Edinburgh DataShare for accountability, there is the presence of information technology (IT) professionals and information professionals (especially librarians) in the team. On content, metadata 161 items recovered on 09 October 2014 were examined since the repository was initially populated by a pilot project, most of the items (103 items) was created by the same investigator, Bert Remijsen, of subject area of Linguistics and English Language (Linguistics and Language Inglês). Regarding the legal aspects, the adoption of open licenses is an option that Edinburgh DataShare offers, with the ODC-BY license, but there is also the option of not choosing the license and indicate different licenses or other information concerning copyright metadata in dc .rights. About the standards, the software used is DSpace, which enables interoperability with other internal and external systems to the University. The use of a standard application profile Qualified Dublin Core, for specific set of research data, facilitates the retrieval of information and interoperability with other systems, by using a standard recognized worldwide. The deposit flow documented and available on the Internet and the inclusion in the University's research data management workflow bring security and stability to the services repository. There is a digital preservation policy repository that guides the preservation actions. Only Handle was used as a permanent identifier to the beginning of November 2014, and from that moment, became also included the DOI. On access and use, the deposit is made by people linked to the University, research data from the University, and access to metadata and to most materials is free for all, without identification. Information retrieval is under development; in February 2015 a new form of research was available, expanding the possibilities of access, sharing and use of sets of research data, increasing the scope of the objectives of Edinburgh DataShare. With regard to sustainability and financing, little information was retrieved, but it was evident, by the beginning was a project funded by JISC Repositories and within the Preservation Programme and have been included in a structure of the University, which is a project that requires a big investment and requires institutional support to ensure its continuity. Edinburgh DataShare is an essential part of the University research data management, but is not the only digital curation mechanism used by the University. Edinburgh DataShare is fulfilling additional task the cycle of scientific communication and provide the conditions for the creation of so-called extended publications by providing services that enable researchers to bind your search data to their publications through permanent identifiers. Introducing the relationship between the guidelines and the Edinburgh DataShare practices in the context of research data management, it was possible to see a continuous relationship building guidelines and practices. This form of construction brings as a consequence some differences between the guidelines and practices, as they are not always at the same time of maturity.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This doctoral thesis’ objective is twofold: to establish a set of evaluation of institutional research repositories indicators and to apply these indicators to spanish institutional repositories. A secondary objective is to find out researchers’ satisfaction about an institutional repository. After ten years from Berlin’s declaration, it could be the adequate time to define some repositories evaluation indicators, focus on internal management and users’ satisfaction. The approach is that even there is not an only way to evaluate institutional repositories, some general criteria could be given. After making a review of the recent literature about repositories indicators, it has been developed a set of criteria that could be applied to the institutional repositories as an evaluation potential model. It has been had in mind specifically those factors about the institutional repositories’ performance related to its management. As a result, a proposal of technological, process, marketing and staff indicators is presented, the final objective being that the repository could be a useful tool for the final user and the institution. A survey to spanish institutional repositories was conducted so as to know if these indicators were useful to evaluate the research repositories. Therefore, a set of indicators was provided to get an overview of the way in which Spanish institutional repositories are run and the services they offer their respective institutions and other users. The selected descriptors are based on aspects related to technology, procedures, content, marketing and the personnel responsible for managing repositories. In order to establish the indicators, a thorough review of the literature was carried out to identify existing indicators that are used to assess repositories. These were divided into five categories (technology, procedures, content, marketing and personnel) with a total of 48 components. An online survey was conducted with the repositories managers of 66 Spanish research institutions in order to verify the degree of fulfilment of the selected indicators. The survey received forty-six responses, which represented a response rate of 69%. Of these, 44 came from universities and two from research centres. Sixty-five per cent of the repositories have the capacity to import data from and export data to other university systems, mainly CRIS (32%). Most repositories have mechanisms for the large-scale import and export of metadata and digital objects (83%). The use of altmetrics in repositories is widespread (44%). Authors and librarians deposit most frequently (37% and 32%, respectively), in spite of the fact that 44% do not have full-time staff working in the repository. In more than 80% of the repositories, between 90% and 100% of the deposits are full-text documents. With respect to the tools used to promote the repository within the institution, these are primarily face-to-face training sessions (82%), followed by support materials such as manuals and help pages (65%). The academic authorities encourage open access among researchers in 56% of cases, a significant element in repository marketing. This work proposes a model based on five dimensions and 48 indicators to assess institutional repositories. This approach has been applied to Spanish institutional repositories to provide up-to-date information about their management procedures and promotional methods and the services they offer authors and the university community. This overview of Spanish repositories has provided an insight into the way in which repositories have evolved in recent years and allowed potential improvements to be identified based on the most advanced repositories. This model can also be exported to assess institutional repositories in other countries. The secondary aim of this study was to determine the awareness of open access among the academic staff of a research-oriented Spanish university, their use of the institutional repository and their satisfaction with its services. An anonymous survey of 37 questions was sent to all professors, researchers and doctoral students of the University of Navarra. A total of 352 responses (17%) were received. The responses showed statistically significant differences in opinions concerning open access journals and services created on top of the repository. Although there was general agreement on the need for open access, half the respondents adopted open access practices (which included the use of the institutional repository, and other pages and academic platforms). This percentage increased with the older respondents, who were also senior members of staff with tenure and positions of authority at the university. The decision to make publications accessible in open access depends on academic reward and on professional recognition. The services offered by the repository were generally perceived positively, with differences according to the age and subject area of the respondents. The awareness of those differences might help the university library to provide faculty with training and products that suit to their needs and habits. Limitations of the study, future research lines and final considerations are provided.

Abstract:
In the past decade, the Open Educational Resources (OER) movement has gained ground and expanded exponentially. Previously, there were only localized OER initiatives; now OER are recognized and supported by key international institutions, governments and funders worldwide. Although OER have become more significant worldwide and their availability and use have expanded, the movement has still not achieved its full potential and entered the mainstream education system. This doctoral thesis provides, on the one hand, an overview of the current state of repositories of open educational resources (ROER) in higher education at international level, specifically to clarify the understanding of the reuse of OER and the needs of the education context provided by educational repositories. On the other hand, it gathers useful information on perceptions and behaviour patterns regarding the use, reuse and sharing of OER by their own users. The first research was based on a content analysis methodology and consisted of two phases: an exploration of international sources, and an analysis of 110 ROER using the proposed set of indicators. The results focus on data from the analysis of their websites and some models of good practices. They are presented according to three core dimensions for evaluating ROER: general factors to establish types of repositories, a focus on drivers for OER reuse; and a focus on educational aspects. It was found that most of the ROER that included one or more of the proposed reuse indicators were created exclusively for educational resources. Educational aspects are not yet firmly embedded into ROER. The few repositories that seem to have successfully included them are those that provide other educational metadata and use educational standards. The research method of the second study was focused on a survey, which was part of the “Open Resources: Influence on Learners and Educators” (ORIOLE) project, based on the Institute of Educational Technology of The Open University of United Kingdom. The international online ORIOLE Survey 2013, available in English and Spanish, was conducted through practitioner OER communities to collect information about the contexts in which open resource use may occur; looking particularly at attitudes about reuse of OER in teaching. What influences open resources in education is a topic of relevance to anyone taking on forward engagement with open education and the answers lie with those who are working directly in the delivery of learning and teaching, which will serve to design repositories more tailored to their needs.

Abstract: Archival institutions are constantly challenged to update the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to reliably organize, preserve and provide their document collections that are generated in large quantity and in different media. Currently, the archival collections are hybrids, ie they are composed of documents that were originally digital, converted to digital, and analog. This requires that the institutions optimize their services, especially as regards to service to the user who aims to have his / her information needs satisfied easily, quickly and safely. In this scenario, the objective of this study is to analyze the set of essential attributes for the deployment of Trusted Digital Archival Repositories (TDARs) and the linking of the archivist as a member of a work team in guiding the requirements with emphasis on access to information. The methodological procedure was chosen by theoretical study grounded on the principles of Archivology. The exploratory stage is carried out from the analysis of Resolution 39 of CONARQ (Guidelines for the implementation of Trusted Digital Archival Repositories TDARs) and ISO 16363: 2012 (Space data and information transfer systems - Audit and certification of trustworthy digital repositories) that make technical recommendations used as a basis for digital repositories being certified as reliable or allow the measurement of repository reliability. The results present the archivist's actions for access to archival docume... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)
