Fitzsimons, James, Ian Pulsford, and Geoff Wescott, eds. Linking Australia's Landscapes. CSIRO Publishing, 2013. http://dx.doi.org/10.1071/9780643107052.

Abstract:
Networks of land managed for conservation across different tenures have rapidly increased in number (and popularity) in Australia over the past two decades. These include iconic large-scale initiatives such as Gondwana Link, the Great Eastern Ranges Initiative, Habitat 141°, and the South Australian NatureLinks, as well as other, landscape-scale approaches such as Biosphere Reserves and Conservation Management Networks. Their aims have been multiple: to protect the integrity and resilience of many Australian ecosystems by maintaining and restoring large-scale natural landscapes and ecosystem processes; to lessen the impacts of fragmentation; to increase the connectivity of habitats to provide for species movement and adaptation as climate changes; and to build community support and involvement in conservation. This book draws out lessons from a variety of established and new connectivity conservation initiatives from around Australia, and is complemented by international examples. Chapters are written by leaders in the field of establishing and operating connectivity networks, as well as key ecological and social scientists and experts in governance. Linking Australia's Landscapes will be an important reference for policy makers, natural resource managers, scientists, and academics and tertiary students dealing with issues in landscape-scale conservation, ecology, conservation biology, environmental policy, planning and management, social sciences, regional development, governance and ecosystem services.

Abstract:
The Living Machines approach, which can be seen as an exemplar methodology for a wider initiative towards “convergent science,” implies and requires a transdisciplinary understanding that bridges from between science and engineering and to the social sciences, arts, and humanities. In addition, it emphasizes a mix of basic and applied approaches whilst also requiring an awareness of the societal context in which modern research and innovation activities are conducted. This chapter explores the education landscape for postgraduate programs related to the concept of Living Machines, highlighting some challenges that should be addressed and providing suggestions for future course development and policy making. The chapter also reviews some of the within-discipline and across-discipline programs that currently exist, particularly within Europe and the US, and outlines an exemplar degree program that could provide the multi-faceted training needed to pursue research and innovation in Living Machines.

Steinberg, Marc I. The Impact of Stock Exchange Rules on the Federalization of Corporate Governance. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780199934546.003.0006.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the important role that the national stock exchanges play in the federalization of corporate governance. Responding to federal legislative and SEC directives and, at times, acting on their own initiative, the stock exchanges have promulgated meaningful rules that comprise a significant component of the corporate governance landscape. Although technically not government regulation, the national stock exchanges play a central role in the enhancement of sound corporate governance practices and policies. Examples include the emphasis by the exchanges on independent directors, board committees (including audit, compensation, and nominating committees), and corporate codes of ethics. Hence, when addressing the federalization of corporate governance, stock exchange regulation is to be given prominent status.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses Lucía Russo’s El borde silencoso de las cosas, the inaugural project of the Cooperation Cultural Center’s Dance and Politics Program in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The work explored exacerbated landscapes of inequality in neoliberal Buenos Aires and resulted in a community dance initiative (In Movement) in the Villa 31 shantytown. The chapter examines how El Borde and In Movement exemplify the Buenos Aires contemporary dance community’s search for new modalities of collective political engagement in the wake of Argentina’s December 2001 economic crisis. It argues that bodies in motion not only engender alternate collective political subjectivities and communities, but also actively renegotiate the social, racial, cultural, class, and gender logics that accompany neoliberalism.

Abstract:
While Western Europe heralds a celebrated tradition of classical choral music, conductors and choral pedagogues from other continents are often astounded to learn of the disparities among choral music education programs throughout the region. This chapter sets out to contextualize the role of music education in the curricula of the typical public or private school, and how private enterprise has evolved to provide music opportunities for those pursuing musical artistry and classical training. Does choral art thrive in a more diverse cultural landscape and a less regulated environment? How does the organizational context of school choir, church choir, community choir, choir club, or private initiative, predispose and shape the choral experience and the success of its endeavors? Is there a European methodology to teach choral music? Finally, how are artistic concepts such as the quest for a “German” choral music passed on?

Abstract:
In 2012, Cambodia — an epicenter of violent land grabbing — announced a bold new initiative to develop land redistribution efforts inside agribusiness concessions. This book focuses on this land reform to understand the larger nature of democracy in Cambodia. The book contends that the national land-titling program, the so-called leopard skin land reform, was first and foremost a political campaign orchestrated by the world's longest-serving prime minister, Hun Sen. The reform aimed to secure the loyalty of rural voters, produce “modern” farmers, and wrest control over land distribution from local officials. Through ambiguous legal directives and unwritten rules guiding the allocation of land, the government fostered uncertainty and fear within local communities. The book gives pause both to celebratory claims that land reform will enable land tenure security, and to critical claims that land reform will enmesh rural people more tightly in state bureaucracies and create a fiscally legible landscape. Instead, the book argues that the extension of formal property rights strengthened the very patronage-based politics that Western development agencies hope to subvert.

Abstract:
Case study is an important pedagogical tool not only to facilitate classroom teaching, but is also a research tool used widely in academia and industry. Every workplace situation calls for decision making and managerial skill. While some situations are more complex and far-reaching than the others, all decisions are equally important for the businesses in the overall landscape. On one hand, strategic decisions call for sharp business acumen and experience; on the other hand, operational decisions call for tact and eye for detail. Businesses employ unique solutions to solve their problem which is often recorded as a case study. These case studies are an effective tool to enhance learning. It stimulates the students to integrate classroom-learning with application orientation to solve real live problems. The growth in case writers coupled with availability of good cases has made industry and academia to embrace case methods. An initiative to support and encourage build indigenous case studies, this book is a compilation of the cases presented at the Management Case Conference organised by PSG Institute of Management in 2021

The European museums and archives landscape provides rich collections of children's and youth drawings from different sections of the 19th and 20th centuries: A heritage of the children from war and peace periods. Who took the initiative to collect drawings from adolescents and then hand them over to museums and archives for safekeeping? Abstract:
The imperative to produce proof of identity has shaped the very life-chances of people inhabiting the diverse geographies, socio-economic groups, and timescales of India and yet, a history of identification documents is nowhere on the horizon. How did the ration card, which went by different names such as the food card, the household consumer card, and more recently, the food security card, crystallize into proof of residence? After the Partition of India, how did the Indian state classify refugees as poor, displaced, and lower caste? Might there be alternative conceptualizations of the period corresponding to what has been regarded the vile and malignant ‘Licence Raj’ and the ‘Inspector Raj’? These questions are now more relevant than ever owing to the changes that the political and technological messiahs behind the Aadhaar have promised within the welfare landscapes of India. In attempting to illuminate the paper regimes of welfare that are now being radically transformed, the author deploys eclectic forms of ethnography and archival research to bring forth the historical quest for proof in the urban margins of India, and Delhi in particular. In Pursuit of Proof moves with methodological agility across moments as disparate as the Second World War, the Partition, ‘Licence Raj’, a forgotten but portentous enumeration initiative, and the production of a unique number. What, however, weaves this vast and ambitious narrative together is the book’s intricate and layered exposition of a state whose welfare capacities of governing are drawn from popular practices of knowledge around documenting and proving identities.
