Full textThis study is divided into three parts: the first is problematic, the second is analytical and the third is programmatic. The first part presents the theoretical framework of semiotic engineering, its problematic, its heritage and its articulation with the problematic of diagrammatic representations. A historical and genetic analysis of operative thought, leading to algorithmic representation, forces us to acknowledge that diagrammatic representation is irreducible to algorithmic representation. For this reason, the diagrammatic representation is the bearer of an additional intelligibility of a semiotic order that needs to be characterised. This is what we try to do in the second part of this work, by proposing analyses of diagrams in different fields of knowledge, whether theoretical or applied. In fact, our aim is to propose a methodology of artificial intelligence that is characterized by the forgetting of the logicist and formalist position, namely the symbolic, effective and yet non-computational character of diagrammatic representations. The semiotic engineering of diagrammatic systems, as we call the artificial intelligence conceived and realised in this framework, is dedicated to the identification of visual means of elaborating theoretical and practical knowledge with the help of diagrammatic representations. For the diagrammatic system constructed must produce a meaning in the practical domain that is recognised by those who read it and use it as a tool for solving problems that cannot be solved algorithmically. This is why we argue that diagrams are semiotic machines. By articulating a theory of the material inscription of knowledge (B. Bachimont's theory of support) with the theory of individuation processes (which comes from G. Simondon) thanks to diagrammatic semiotics (which comes from C. S. Peirce), we aim to support two complementary theses: on the one hand, that diagrammatic inscription corresponds to the recording of operative knowledge (thesis 1); on the other hand, that operative knowledge corresponds to the analogical intuition and actualisation of the diagrammatic inscription (thesis 2). The second thesis, which is the reciprocal of the first, presupposes the rehabilitation of analogy as a method of invention. By reinscribing diagrams in a long history of technique, we show in a third and final part that they open a new chapter in the history of writing, appearing as intellectual technologies constituting new ways of thinking and of equipping thought. Likewise, by reinscribing analogical reasoning in a long history of science and technology, we argue for the rehabilitation of the method of analogical reasoning as a rational and valid approach, as long as it is exercised under certain conditions and within certain limits. Finally, by arguing for the thesis that the diagram is a semiotechnical device at the heart of the living, wehypothesise that it is a relevant tool for understanding the processes of morphogenesis within theframework of a philosophy of nature

Full textThis research deals with the learning of the notion of property as a subordination relation between the data and the conclusion. The choices in the structure of this education are based on a work of distinction between the data and the conclusion in a statement. This distinction is necessary for the reinvestment of the properties in the deductive reasoning. From the works of Vygotsky on the semiotic mediation and the works of Rabardel and Trouche on the instrumentation, we conceived situations, integrating a dynamic geometry software, to introduce the properties. The tool dragging of the software is used to carry out the data of a property. Students work on "soft" constructions, stemming from the dragging, where the new characteristics are short-lived. The process of semiotic mediation is at the begging of the construction, by the student, of the instrument Dragging, it continues during the collectives' discussions with the teacher. The construction of the link between the data and the conclusion leans on the use of the dynamism of the environment but also on the interaction between the visual and discursive registers. We studied how the students appropriate the properties, the relation between the data and the conclusion through the study of : - The construction of the expected dragging instrument during the activities with Cabri - The coordination between the graphic and discursive registers in relation with the process of semiotic mediation

Full textThere is an intensive growth of sociotechnical tools which are helpful for various tasks. These tools are becoming more and more visual, semiotic, graphic in contrast to written texts. A particularly appropriate domain for their use is individual or collaborative design. In the context of a project, graphical tools play a significant role both in the process of the development of a solution and in the representation of its result. Semiotic tools are widely used in scientific and technical training as well as in professional practice related to engineering. There are two types of graphical tools: some need to be taught, others are used without any training but call for tacit knowledge. In addition, there are tools for specific domains which can be utilized by other professions

Full textThis research targets the teaching and learning of the notion of free fall. It aims at developing a learning sequence intended for high school seniors and which goal is to rebuild the notion of acceleration from the notion of speed variation. The chosen methodology falls within didactic engineering of second generation. Three exploratory studies contribute to preliminary work. The first one focuses on usual practices of free fall teaching in the beginning of the 2Oth century through the analysis of physics textbooks. It shows that the study of falling bodies appears like a content at the crossroads of kinematics and dynamics. It also allows to question the added value of using vectors at the epistemological, methodological and educational level. The second study explores the ability of first year students in drawing vectors in kinematics. It highlights that the use of vectors raises difficulties and is a kinematics skill in itself. The third study is a content analysis of the notion of acceleration and its characteristics in the case of free fall. It leads to the presentation of different semiotic representation registers of acceleration. These preliminary analyses lead to the conception of a sequence which puts the vector representation at the centre of the learning system and which hypothesis is that the representation of several successive velocity vectors is a learning tool. The results show positive effects on student learning especially by enabling to deepen the knowledge of free fall and improve the skills in using vectors. These results also help to identify and describe possible measures for improvement of the learning sequence

Full textThe dissertation, which investigates the description of the novel and considers an answer by interrogating an information problem (offering a theoretical model of representation, a basis for the conception and creation of tools for a carefully thought out navigation within fiction), carries out a reflection about the role of literary fiction in the construction of bodies of knowledge and, by extension, of a culture. These reflection and experimentation take place in the school context of the “lycee d’enseignement general” [mainstream education high school] (definition of the status of the novel in the way that it is used in education programs and objectives, analysis of the notion of literary reading in high school) and through the analysis of a body of texts: study of La Mysterieuse Flamme de la Reine Loana / Umberto Eco, 2004, French translation, Paris, Grasset et Fasquelle, 2005, combined with the study of an unpredictable collection of texts about the theme of the Shoah. Since the object of study is the novel, the links between Information and Communication Sciences and semiotics are approached in a new light: construction of a semiotic theory (definition, setting up of a formal language, choice of a representation system) made suitable to the object of study by clarifying the conditions of meaning production, which implies a hybridization of the fields (Information and Communication Sciences and literary analysis). The theoretical elements for a representation model of fiction are developed. Definitions of the novel, of literary narrative fiction, of information, of fictiology (a new field of research opened up by the study) and of critical fictiological information, complemented by a description of positioning of this research in the field of Information and Communication Sciences, frame the reflection. A chapter tackling literature and the notion of memory allows for a delineation of the links between novel and representation of reality. For this purpose, the notions of text, reference, and context are defined. Finally, the title of the dissertation is explained through the description of the imaginal faculty, and of the mediation function attributed to the novel. To close this part of the study, drafting a panorama of the proposed and employed tools helps operate a state of the art of fiction classification, reinforced by the definition of an open information research and a study of the notion of meaning in the handling of fiction. Analyses in the practical field include a report of investigations on reading practices conducted in the contexts of secondary education and of the training of ‘Education Nationale’ information librarians. Analyzing bodies of texts allows the problem of visible reality in the novel to be interrogated. This research tests out a fictiologic ontology by examining the novel as document and by attempting a formalization of the camps literature. The proposition of a theoretical model to be experimented is concretized by the development of a system of organization of information and literary knowledge. A reflection on the current technical environment justifies the choices considered, the propositions and solutions offered. By presenting a fictiological information literaty, an extension of media information literaty, the dissertation ends with the description of fictiological mediation anchored into a renegotiation of information spaces and typologies, investigating participatory and collaborative practices
