Abstract:
The aim of the public servicing is to draw a simple design of Ar Ridho kiosk at Klewer traditional market, Surakarta city. This simple design is hoped as a basic in designing the kiosk that supports kiosk revenue increasing. The public servicing method used is a stakeholder and contingency approach assistancy method. The stakeholder approach is used in order to gain effectiveness in assistancy, while the contingency approach is used in order to gain more than one simple designs. The result is three pleasant, attractive and informative simple designs. All of simple designs have a similarity in describing a pleasant and attractive kiosk, but different in describing an informative kiosk. The pleasant and attractive kiosk is described by the vastness of kiosk. The first simple design describes an informative kiosk because provides an information computer, the second simple design describes a more informative kiosk because provides an information computer and mirror, and the third simple design describes an informative kiosk because provides an information computer, mirror and dressing room. Consummers respond the simple designs. Some responds suggest improvement into 2 or 3 simple design dimension and cost calculation for each simple design, while other responds suggest to the kiost such as room widening, display grouping and on-line transaction.

Abstract:
A designer commits to a signal distribution that is informative about a payoff-relevant state. Conditional upon the privately observed signals, agents take actions that affect their payoffs as well as those of the designer. We show how to derive the (designer) optimal information structure in static finite environments. We fully characterize it in a symmetric binary setting for a parameterized game. In this environment, conditionally independent private signals are never strictly optimal. (JEL C72, D78, D82, D83)

Abstract:
An important issue in the design of gene selection algorithm for microarray data analysis is the formation of suitable criterion function for measuring the relevance between different gene expressions. Mutual information (MI) is a widely used criterion function but it calculates the relevance on the entire samples only once which cannot exactly identify the informative genes. This paper proposes a novel idea of computing MI in stages. The proposed multistage mutual information (MSMI) computes MI, initially using all the samples and based on the classification performance produced by artificial neural network (ANN), MI is repeatedly calculated using only the unclassified samples until there is no improvement in the classification accuracy. The performance of the proposed approach is evaluated using ten gene expression data sets. Simulation result shows that the proposed approach helps to improve the discriminate power of the genes with regard to the target disease of a microarray sample. Statistical analysis of the test result shows that the proposed method selects highly informative genes and produces comparable classification accuracy than the other approaches reported in the literature.

A data buyer faces a decision problem under uncertainty. He can augment his initial private information with supplemental data from a data seller. His willingness to pay for supplemental data is determined by the quality of his initial private information. The data seller optimally offers a menu of statistical experiments. We establish the properties that any revenue-maximizing menu of experiments must satisfy. Every experiment is a non-dispersed stochastic matrix, and every menu contains a fully informative experiment. Light pollution has been an environmental concern in Jakarta and surrounding cities. Despite the negative consequences, Jakarta residents have low to non-existent awareness about light pollution. To raise awareness, the development of an informative mobile game with the title MA’LAM is proposed. As one means to develop an ideal gaming experience, User Interface (UI) needs to be developed with usability and aesthetic approach. To implement UI design successfully, a suitable user-centric design method is required. Therefore, Design Thinking was used to develop MA’LAM’s UI design as part of User Experience (UX) development process. With a usable and aesthetically pleasing UI, message and information about light pollution could be conveyed through a positive gameplay interaction.

Abstract:
This article examines graphic design’s role within design activism. It outlines design activism in general and its relation to commercial design culture in a consumerist economy. Thereafter it discusses persuasive tendencies in graphic design and questions if its current contribution to design activism is limited to its predominant narrow role of persuading for “the good cause.” To illustrate the hypothesis that such a persuasive approach lacks activist potential and thus social impact, cases that represent traditional graphic-design activism are compared to alternative approaches with an informative rather than persuasive character. The latter cases exemplify how information design can challenge the status quo and range from conventional leaflets to interactive tools and data visualizations. The discussion explores how these cases work as a non-commercial service to its audience, rather than solely solving communicative problems for commissioning clients. It is argued that in this way visual communication can intervene into problems on a functional level, similarly to artifacts from design disciplines such as architecture and industrial or product design.

Abstract:
Following proposals in 1987 and 1988, several medical journals have provided more informative abstracts (“structured abstracts”) for articles of clinical interest. Structured abstracts for original studies require authors to systematically disclose the objective, basic research design, clinical setting, participants, interventions (if any), main outcome measurements, results, and conclusions; and for literature reviews the objective, data sources, methods of study selection, data extraction and synthesis, and conclusions. More informative abstracts of this kind can facilitate peer review before publication, assist clinical readers to find articles that are both scientifically sound and applicable to their practices, and allow more precise computerized literature searches. We review the feasibility, acceptability, and dissemination of structured abstracts, reassess the underlying strategy, and describe modifications of the approach. This innovation can aid communication from scientists to clinicians, and other clinical journals are invited to join this effort.

Abstract:
A structural model for the estimation of software failure rates is proposed which is based on a partition of the code into components. Systematic failure is assumed to be induced by the interaction of these components. A Bayesian inference scheme is used to perform failure rate estimation on the basis of N failure free test runs. The approach splits the problem of constructing a system prior up into the smaller, conceivably simpler problems of constructing subtask priors. Thereby a wider range of prior information is used in the process of assessing system safety. The work in this paper constitutes a first step towards a formal statistical understanding of the relationship between system complexity and system testing for reliability. Long-term implications are the achievement of more informative reliability estimates and guidelines on cost-effective testing.

Abstract:
PurposeThis paper aims to examine the impact of stock market liquidity on the value of reported earnings in Egypt, proxied by the earnings–return relationship, during the period between 2006 and 2015.Design/methodology/approachTo achieve this objective, this paper uses a sample including all active firms listed on the Egyptian Stock Exchange. This study employs multivariate panel data regression analysis with fixed effects estimated using robust standard errors, and control for other variables. All financial, accounting and stock market data are collected from the Thomson Reuters Worldscope and Datastream databases.FindingsThe empirical results report a significant positive relation between liquidity and earnings informativeness. This study argues that in environments with high information asymmetries, reported earnings are informative conditional on stock liquidity. All results remain valid when using heteroscedasticity-robust standard errors clustered across firms, alternative measures of liquidity, sub-groups of different sizes and estimating quantile regressions.Originality/valueThis paper identifies stock price liquidity as a significant determinant of stock price informativeness of earnings in Egypt. In particular, stock liquidity reduces agency conflicts and information asymmetries between managers and market investors, and thereby decreases managerial incentives to misreport earnings. This consequently enhances the quality of reported earnings and the informativeness of prices.

Abstract:
For time-to-event data, the study sample is commonly selected using the nested case–control design in which controls are selected at the event time of each case. An alternative sampling strategy is to sample all controls at the same (pre-specified) time, which can either be at the last event time or further out in time. Such controls are the long-term survivors and may therefore constitute a more ‘extreme’ comparison group and be more informative than controls from the nested case–control design. We investigate this potential information gain by comparing the power of various ‘extreme’ case–control designs with that of the nested case–control design using simulation studies. We derive an expression for the theoretical average information in a nested and extreme case–control pair for the situation of a single binary exposure. Comparisons reveal that the efficiency of the extreme case–control design increases when the controls are sampled further out in time. In an application to a study of dementia, we identified Apolipoprotein E as a risk factor using a 1:1 extreme case–control design, which provided a hazard ratio estimate with a smaller standard error than that of a 2:1 nested case–control design.

Abstract:
Public transportation is one of the most important services in supporting the smooth running of community activities in cities where people most commonly use a bus to reach a destination. Consequently, it requires a clear travel route so passengers find it easy to go on a trip. Display is a device for providing information. However, the existing display receives some complaints where more than 60% of passenger experience difficulty in reading what is shown, taking more time for them to understand the information. It is evidence that the device is not effective and efficient to use. Thus, development of a new display is crucial. The purpose of this study was to design an innovative display that is more ergonomic in displaying bus route information. Survey was conducted to identify user requirement. Axiomatic design method was applied to determine the design parameters of the display by mapping process from customer attribute and functional requirement on the basis of the ergonomic principles. Statistical analysis was conducted to test hypothesis. The result of this study showed that the display developed is valid to meet customer criteria at 5% of significant level, covering the criteria of being informative (0.144), comfortable (0.063), digitalized (0.070), and easy to access (0.378). Thus, it is more effective and efficient for passengers to gain any information needed.

Abstract:
Understanding the visual discrepancy and heterogeneity of different places is of great interest to architectural design, urban design and tourism planning. However, previous studies have been limited by the lack of adequate data and efficient methods to quantify the visual aspects of a place. This work proposes a data-driven framework to explore the place-informative scenes and objects by employing deep convolutional neural network to learn and measure the visual knowledge of place appearance automatically from a massive dataset of photos and imagery. Based on the proposed framework, we compare the visual similarity and visual distinctiveness of 18 cities worldwide using millions of geo-tagged photos obtained from social media. As a result, we identify the visual cues of each city that distinguish that city from others: other than landmarks, a large number of historical architecture, religious sites, unique urban scenes, along with some unusual natural landscapes have been identified as the most place-informative elements. In terms of the city-informative objects, taking vehicles as an example, we find that the taxis, police cars and ambulances are the most place-informative objects. The results of this work are inspiring for various fields—providing insights on what large-scale geo-tagged data can achieve in understanding place formalization and urban design.

In particular many experiments fail to measure the affinity of the reactants for each other. This essay describes simple methods to get the most out of valuable reagents in binding experiments.

Abstract:
Managing a project is an involved and many faceted job requiring a combination of management, organization and technical skills. Current methods tend to be based on lifecycle principles and so are project management tools. Additionally, project management is learnt by a process of ‘coming up through the ranks’. Modern methods of structured analysis and design, computer aided coding and the move towards prototyping cause one to question whether or not the current management style, the support tools and training methods are going to be appropriate for tomorrow's technology. This paper proposes an alternative model of management and examines it to see whether or not it is better suited to modern methods, to being computer aided and to training the next generation of project managers.

Abstract:
Purpose The re-use of good design solutions is a key source of evidence and knowledge in the design of healthcare buildings. However, due to the unique nature of healthcare built environments, the critical application of this evidence is of paramount importance. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the features of such critical application and identify the aspects that need to be considered during the re-use of good designs. Design/methodology/approach Data from three case studies of hospital designs in the UK were used to explore the processes behind the adaption and re-use of design solutions during the design of healthcare buildings. Data were thematically analysed to distinguish the aspects that should be carefully compared and contrasted during design re-use. Findings Existing designs of healthcare buildings should be captured and evaluated along with: patient demographics, care models of the hospital, other local departmental needs and facility operational aspects in order to ensure the effectiveness of re-use. In addition, properly introducing the design to the users is also a part of successful design re-use. Research limitations/implications The findings of this research were integrated into a framework to support healthcare designers on the effective re-use of good designs. This data-driven framework could be validated further with design practitioners. Further, this research relied on memory recall of the interviewees and the accuracy and completeness of documentary records. Practical implications This research provides details of how healthcare built environment designs are embedded in project-unique circumstances. The results could therefore be used to develop meaningful and informative evaluation mechanisms for new and re-used healthcare building design features. Originality/value This research extends the understanding of the critical application of healthcare design evidence, by explaining how healthcare design solutions should be evaluated during the design process.

Abstract:
B-cell epitope prediction can enable novel pharmaceutical product development. However, a mechanistically framed consensus has yet to emerge on benchmarking such prediction, thus presenting an opportunity to establish standards of practice that circumvent epistemic inconsistencies of casting the epitope prediction task as a binary-classification problem. As an alternative to conventional dichotomous qualitative benchmark data, quantitative dose-response data on antibody-mediated biological effects are more meaningful from an information-theoretic perspective in the sense that such effects may be expressed as probabilities (e.g., of functional inhibition by antibody) for which the Shannon information entropy (SIE) can be evaluated as a measure of informativeness. Accordingly, half-maximal biological effects (e.g., at median inhibitory concentrations of antibody) correspond to maximally informative data while undetectable and maximal biological effects correspond to minimally informative data. This applies to benchmarking B-cell epitope prediction for the design of peptide-based immunogens that elicit antipeptide antibodies with functionally relevant cross-reactivity. Presently, the Immune Epitope Database (IEDB) contains relatively few quantitative dose-response data on such cross-reactivity. Only a small fraction of these IEDB data is maximally informative, and many more of them are minimally informative (i.e., with zero SIE). Nevertheless, the numerous qualitative data in IEDB suggest how to overcome the paucity of informative benchmark data.

Abstract:
The existence of signage helped visitors to find the desired direction in one area more quickly and easily. With good and systemized signage, visitors could explore the museum even if there was no museum guide. Besides, a less informative, signage of Sri Baduga Museum had not yet had identity which depicted image to the museum. The purpose of this study was to design a signage that was informative and systemized as well as to characterize the local identity. Data were collected through literature study to obtain the theories that support the study. Observations were conducted to some museums to understand the conditions occured more closely. Direct and structured interviews with the museum manager and practitioners were done to reinforce the observations that have been made. Questionnaires were distributed to 100 respondents who had visited and were visiting Sri Baduga Museum to find out their opinions on signage at the museum. Matrix analysis was used to compare four visual objects from four different museums. Kujang (cleaver) as the identity of West Java is used in visual concept. Pictogram shape used came from the stylized shape of Kujang. The form of designed signage and wayfinding derived from stylized ornamentation found on the roof of this museum building. It was expected that the proposed design can produce signage and wayfinding with visual and good continuity to be more informative, interesting, and can give a good impression for visitors.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the experimental study of the accumulated measurement information with the purpose of searching for an informative composition of the sign of selection for solving the problem of selection of space objects with an assessment of the expected indices of its quality and reliability. The results of the study of the possibility of using as an informative sign of selection for the solution of the problem of selection of spacecrafts for estimating its design features, as well as parameters characterizing its behavior in space as a rigid body, are presented. Studies are carried out for spacecraft, in the design of which there are largesized radar panels or fast-rotating elements. Estimations of the considered signs of selection are formed by radar non-coordinate information. An algorithm is developed for detecting a large-sized radar panel in a spacecraft structure and an algorithm for detecting fast-rotating elements in a spacecraft design and estimating rotational parameters using a discrete wavelet Haar transformation. The obtained results of the study are presented. The study of the quality of the signs of selection is carried out using interval parameter estimates.

Abstract:
Summary Treatment of bone tissue injuries and diseases is still a great challenge for surgeons, but also for researchers who work with materials. Today stem cells are commonly used in bone tissue engineering. However, advances in biocompatible materials design, especially biodegradable porous structure (scaffold) is gaining an important role in the treatment of diseased bone tissue. The basic advantage of these carriers is specifically designed scaffold with defined porosity and pore structure that is favourable for cells settlement. Scaffolds are most commonly used as ceramic brackets because they have excellent characteristics in biodegradation and bioactivity. The process of scaffold production is important because the appropriate technology must ensure control of liquids and reproducibility of scaffold production through standardized process. The aim of this study was to present some of different procedures of scaffold production in bone tissue engineering and point out the advantages and disadvantages of these methods.

Abstract:
The auctioning of frequency has to comply with a multitude of requirements in order to guarantee a transparent and efficient process. The German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has opted for a design that provides participants with information on the highest bid after each round for every band along with information on the bidder. We evaluate the price formation efficiency in this setup to see how fast prices become informative about the final auction value. We find that prices are partially informative right from the beginning which allows us to conclude that participants were able to learn fast from their competitors’ bidding behavior and validates the choice of the agency to implement the auction in the present format.
