Abstract:
Network analysis of transcriptional signature typically relies on direct interaction between two highly expressed genes. However, this approach misses indirect and biological relevant interactions through a third factor (hub). Here we determine whether a hub-based network analysis can select an improved signature subset that correlates with a biological change in a stronger manner than the original signature. We have previously reported an interferon-related transcriptional signature (THP1r2Mtb-induced) fromMycobacterium tuberculosis(M. tb)-infected THP-1 human macrophage. We selected hub-connected THP1r2Mtb-induced genes into the refined network signature TMtb-iNet and grouped the excluded genes into the excluded signature TMtb-iEx. TMtb-iNet retained the enrichment of binding sites of interferon-related transcription factors and contained relatively more interferon-related interacting genes when compared to THP1r2Mtb-induced signature. TMtb-iNet correlated as strongly as THP1r2Mtb-induced signature on a public transcriptional dataset of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). TMtb-iNet correlated more strongly in CD4+and CD8+T cells from PTB patients than THP1r2Mtb-induced signature and TMtb-iEx. When TMtb-iNet was applied to data during clinical therapy of tuberculosis, it resulted in the most pronounced response and the weakest correlation. Correlation on dataset from patients with AIDS or malaria was stronger for TMtb-iNet, indicating an involvement of TMtb-iNet in these chronic human infections. Collectively, the significance of this work is twofold: (1) we disseminate a hub-based approach in generating a biologically meaningful and clinically useful signature; (2) using this approach we introduce a new network-based signature and demonstrate its promising applications in understanding host responses to infections.

Abstract:
Most pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs) are indolent, while pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDACs) are particularly aggressive. To elucidate the basis for this difference and to establish the biomarkers, by using the deep sequencing, we analyzed somatic variants across coding regions of 409 cancer genes and measured mRNA/miRNA expression in nine PNETs, eight PDACs, and four intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (INETs). There were 153 unique somatic variants considered pathogenic or likely pathogenic, found in 50, 57, and 24 genes in PDACs, PNETs, and INETs, respectively. Ten and 11 genes contained a pathogenic mutation in at least one sample of all tumor types and in PDACs and PNETs, respectively, while 28, 34, and 11 genes were found to be mutated exclusively in PDACs, PNETs, and INETs, respectively. The mRNA and miRNA transcriptomes of PDACs and NETs were distinct: from 54 to 1659 differentially expressed mRNAs and from 117 to 250 differentially expressed miRNAs exhibited high discrimination ability and resulted in models with an area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC-ROC) >0.9 for both miRNA and mRNA. Given the miRNAs high stability, we proposed exploring that class of RNA as new pancreatic tumor biomarkers.

Abstract:
The National Library of Education is the largest federally funded library in the world devoted entirely to education. In March 1994, Congress created this new national library, bringing together the former U.S. Department of Education Research Library; the 1-800 user service; INet (ED/OERI's Internet site and services); and the Technology Resources Center. These units now operate in partnership with the ERIC to carry out reference and referral services; collection and technical services; resource sharing and cooperation, including Internet Services (INet); and marketing/public relations. NLE is planning a network of national education technology and related resources. The network will promote greater cooperation and resource sharing among education and library professionals, policymakers, the public and other providers and repositories of education information in America. It will also apply information science, computer and telecommunications technologies for the enhancement of education information dissemination.

Abstract:
The synthesis and crystal structure of the 1:1 complex formed between triphenyltin chloride and isoquinoline-1-carboxylic acid ([Ph3SnCl:C10H7NO2]) is described. The tin(IV) atom is found to be five coordinate, being bound to three phenyl groups, the chlorine atom, and an oxygen from isoquinoline-1-carboxylic acid. The geometry around the tin atom is that of a trigonal bipyramid, with the three phenyl groups occupying the equatorial positions, and the apical sites taken by the chlorine atom and a carboxyl oxygen from the isoquinoline-1-carboxylic acid. The crystals are triclinic, space group [Formula: see text] with a = 17.932(12) Å, b = 17.935(15) Å, c = 18.686(12) Å, α = 63.16(5)°, β = 81.70(6)°, γ = 68.45(6)°, V = 4986(6)(10) Å3Z = 8, and Dcalc = 1.486 Mg m−3 The final residual is RF = 0.050, on 8375 reflections with Inet > 2.5σ(Inet). Abstract:
The presence of long-lived radionuclides is a challenge to the management of high level liquid waste (HLLW). Separation of minor acitinides and long-lived fission products from the HLLW by partitioning process has the potential of significantly decreasing the costs of the immobilization and disposal of the radioactive waste by minimizing waste volumes. Several solvent extraction processes have been developed and demonstrated at the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology (INET) for the separation of transuranic elements, 90Sr and 137Cs. In this work, using modified zeolite molecular sieve as a sorbent carrier, four kinds of solidification were prepared by soakage- absorption- calcination methods. It was found that the sample (HZCS-75) calcinated at 750°C was formed pollucite, a zeolite mineral, which will provide an option to immobilize the radioactive cesium and strontium.

Abstract:
In this paper, software Inet 3.0 is applied to generate topology, which randomly generates dynamic topology nodes. Based on dynamic shortest path algorithms put forward by P.Narvaez, Xiaobin et al, we analyzed the time efficiency of dynamic and static shortest path algorithms, the different time efficiency inner dynamic shortest path algorithms, and the relationship of time efficiency between topology and dynamic shortest path algorithms. The result shows that Xiaobin algorithm is statistically better than Narvaez algorithm about 20-30 percent. Dynamic algorithms are not always better than static algorithms considering the amount of changed topology. Dynamic and static algorithms are roughly same when the amount of changed topology holds 10 percent. Dynamic algorithms perform better when less than 10 percent, otherwise static algorithms will be better. The time efficiency of dynamic algorithms is related to special topology.

Abstract:
Additions of γ-Al2O3 and Al(OH)3 powders produced at INETI from spent baths resulting from the aluminium transformation industry were made to a commercial cordierite batch formulation (without Al2O3 addition), known as DC4, developed by Rauschert Portuguesa Lda., in order to evaluate the possibility of replacing with benefits the conventional α-Al2O3 source used. The resulting samples were found to be denser than the commercial ones. This is related to the higher reactivity of these particular sources of alumina as compared to that added to the commercial product. Consequently, higher Young’s modulus (100-114 GPa) and flexural strength (80-98 MPa) were achieved for the developed materials in comparison to those obtained for commercial cordierite (96±2 GPa and 67±5 MPa, respectively). In addition, slightly lower thermal expansion coefficients were observed (3.6x10-6 K-1) and the thermal shock resistance was found to increase from 325 K to 350 K. The developed technology can be regarded as suitable for reducing the environmental impact of deposition of wastes from the aluminium transformation industry.

Abstract:
In this paper we show that heritage speakers and returnees are fundamentally different from the majority of adult second language learners with respect to their use of collocations (Laufer & Waldman, 2011). We compare the use of lexical collocations involvingyap- “do” andet- “do” among heritage speakers of Turkish in Germany (n = 45) with those found among Turkish returnees (n = 65) and Turkish monolinguals (n = 69). Language use by returnees is an understudied resource although this group can provide crucial insights into the specific language ability of heritage speakers. Results show that returnees who had been back for one year avoid collocations withyap- and use some hypercorrect forms inet-, whilst returnees who had been back for seven years at the time of recording produce collocations that are quantitatively and qualitatively similar to those of monolingual speakers of Turkish. We discuss implications for theories of ultimate attainment and incomplete acquisition in heritage speakers.

Abstract:
Despite the growing popularity of 802.11 wireless networks, users often suffer from connectivity problems and performance issues due to unstable radio conditions and dynamic user behavior, among other reasons. Anomaly detection and distinction are in the thick of major challenges that network managers encounter. The difficulty of monitoring broad and complex Wireless Local Area Networks, that often requires heavy instrumentation of the user devices, makes anomaly detection analysis even harder. In this paper we exploit 802.11 access point usage data and propose an anomaly detection technique based on Hidden Markov Model (HMM) and Universal Background Model (UBM) on data that is inexpensive to obtain. We then generate a number of network anomalous scenarios in OMNeT++/INET network simulator and compare the detection outcomes with those in baseline approaches—RawData and Principal Component Analysis. The experimental results show the superiority of HMM and HMM-UBM models in detection precision and sensitivity.

Abstract:
This paper presents a routing performance analysis of structured P2P overlay network. Due to the rapid development and hectic life, sharing data wirelessly is essential. P2P allows participating peers move freely by joining and leaving the network at any convenience time. Therefore, it exists constraint when one measuring the network performance. Moreover, the design of structured overlay networks is fragmented and with various design. P2P networks need to have a reliable routing protocol. In order to analyse the routing performance, this work simulates three structured overlay protocols-Chord, Pastry and Kademlia using OMNeT++ with INET and OverSim module. The result shows that Pastry is the best among others with 100% routing efficiency. However, Kademlia leads with 12.76% and 18.78% better than Chord and Pastry in lookup hop count and lookup success latency respectively. Hence, Pastry and Kamelia architectures will have a better choice for implementing structured overlay P2P network.

Abstract:
The paper addresses the reliability problem of mobile ad hoc networks under link and node failure model. Node reliability is calculated as a function of no. of neighbor nodes, packet success rate, and device type and packet size. The presence of a link between any node pair is binary and its reliability is computed considering the distance between nodes and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). An efficient algorithm is proposed to analyze and calculate the reliability of mobile ad hoc networks considering multiple routes from source and destination nodes. The effect of different parameters on node reliability and link reliability are analyzed and discussed. The network is simulated and analyzed using INET frame work. Reliability of two distinct cases of this simulation is evaluated. The simulated results and discussions ensure that evaluation of the reliability of any mobile ad hoc networks can be done easily and in an efficient manner by the proposed method.

Abstract:
The structure of the Internet at the autonomous system (AS) level has been studied by the physics, mathematics and computer science communities. We extend this work to include features of the core and the periphery, taking a radial perspective on AS network structure. New methods for plotting AS data are described, and they are used to analyse datasets that have been extended to contain edges missing from earlier collections. The average distance from one vertex to the rest of the network is used as the baseline metric for investigating radial structure. Common vertex-specific quantities are plotted against this metric to reveal distinctive characteristics of central and peripheral vertices. Two datasets are analysed using these measures as well as two common generative models (Barabási–Albert and Inet). We find a clear distinction between the highly connected core and a sparse periphery. We also find that the periphery has a more complex structure than that predicted by degree distribution or the two generative models.

Abstract:
In pebble-bed reactors, the fuel is contained in small grains, which are included in a graphite matrix. Some burnable poison particles may also be present. In this work, an additional ’double heterogeneity’ model is introduced in the DRAGON5 lattice code. The model is based on the legacy work of She (INET) and has been improved to overcome intrinsic limitations. It is based on a simplified physical model whereas the two already existing models were based on the collision probability analysis or on renewal theory. The advantage of this new model is its simplicity to implement. The theory shows that the correction suggested in the original model should not be arbitrary, but a constant equivalent particle fraction of 0.63. Numerical comparison between the models is generally good. However it does not support the theory of a constant equivalent fraction. Additional work is needed to reduce the discrepancy between the models in some cases.

Abstract:
The present paper focus on preliminary work carried out at INETI concerning the use of microwave radiation applied to sintering of both ceramic and metal powders. Due to the characteristics of materials-radiation interaction, microwaves can become an interesting power source in powder technology and other processing routes, since it is possible to lower the sintering temperature and shorten the sintering cycles, leading to time and energy savings. Alumina, hydroxyapatite, titanium and stainless steel powder compacts were sintered in a modified commercial oven of 2.45GHz and 1000W nominal power. Microwave susceptors were used to enable temperature rise during the initial stage of the sintering cycles. Results on densification and microstructural evaluation of microwave sintered samples are reported and compared to conventionally sintered ones, when available. For similar porosity levels upon sintering, microwave radiation generally reduces sintering times from several hours to minutes. The results obtained so far are quite encouraging since in the case of alumina and stainless steel compacts, a decrease of about 200°C in the sintering temperature was achieved. It was also found that the green density plays a key role in the densification of both metallic and ceramic powders.

Abstract:
General principles of law have been studied by many Latvian scholars including, professor Daiga Rezevska, Egils Levits, professor Ineta Ziemele, and many others. Since 1994, Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia has consistently recognized the general principles of law in its doctrine as a provision that restricts the freedom of action of the legislator. In practice, when talking about the general principles of law, most often the rule of law, justice, equality, proportionality have been mentioned. However, as the doctrine of law develops, four overriding principles are also defined in Latvian constitutional law: (1) democratic state system; (2) rule of law; (3) socially responsible state; (4) nation state, which is not reflected in the text of the Satversme, but as an idea falls within the core of the Satversme. The 21st century, which many call the digital age, has raised questions about the content of general legal principles in this role in the information society. This era is relatively characterized by three factors: technology, globalization and information. None of these is legal in nature. However, these factors have, for the first time, created a situation where new technological solutions threaten to go beyond legal control, jeopardizing the rule of law and justice in society. Therefore, in a democratic society, it is essentially important that legal policy makers are aware of these risks and develop state legal policy in technology-neutral path. In order to reach such a goal, the principle of technological neutrality shall be recognized as a general principle of law, which derives from Article 1 of the Satversme.
