Full textThe aim of this thesis is to analyze the determinants of the urban concentration and their effect at different levels of development. The empirical analysis focuses on the developing countries over the period 1950-2000 grouped by level of per capita income. The results confirm the existence of specific trajectories of urbanization rate and urban primacy which differs meaningfully according to the stage of development considered. Certain factors encourage urbanization and its concentration in major cities in the early stages of development. Other factors may influence or even stop the tendency toward urban primacy in the advanced stages of development, which seems to follow bell shaped curve. These phenomena of evolution of city size according to the evolution of industrial structures and local production, during development, are particularly examined in the case of Morocco. Gradually since the 1980’s, a sectoral and geographical redeployment of industrial activities tends to occur. The decline in the primacy of the Metropolitan Area of Grand Casablanca is the result of a double movement: the relocation of a number of activities based on economies of scale and low-wage allowing urban deconcentration non-compensated by the location of medium-technology industries sensitive to agglomeration economies which increase urban concentration

Full textIt is from the industrial revolution that the world's bipolarization was been determined in a center with industrial economic and peripheral countries with under-industrial economic, specialized in primary matter production and agricol product necessary to the industrial expansion and to the capital accumulation of the center. Conscious of this exploitation for and this dependance which come from the terms of trade change deterioration, the peripheral countries looked the industrialization-like the only way to their economic and social development. The industrialization became, in that moment, the central nucleus of the economic analysis. In this way, several theories of economic growth and economic development are developed and organized, form 1950, to permit the underdeveloped countries to determine their industrial policy (import substitution, promotion of manufactured exports, heavy industries) and their technological policy (labour-intensive or capital-intensive). This, as soon as algeria tooks her independence, her economic policy was tending towards a strategy of heavy industries with high capital-intensive. To realize this objective, the international societies concourse was necessary not only financially but also for the technological transfert as well. This policy was bound to fail in that algeria wanted to have an independent economic, but she, paradoxically, was found her economy between four dependances which have accentuated, now, the economic and social crisis of the country

It's thus on the same ligne of the industrial policy adopted by the government to develop its economy. A lot of steps have been taken to encourage the industrial investisment in the region. A new code of industrial investisment put the stress on fiscal deduction an on installation's facilities. Two industrial areas have been createad in tangier and tetouan. The third one schedulded to be in ksar-el-kebir. Many plants set up in the peninsula during the last two decades, but they are more concentrated in tangier than in tetouan. In the other towns, there are just some plants. The main caracteristic is the great dominance of textile industry this branch employs nearly 70% of industrial manpower in thepeninsula, followed by the foodstuffs and construction equipement industry. In some cases the capital invested is national and in the others there's an association with a foreign capital especially german and french capital. The participation of the foreign capital allowed the opening of the european markets which absorbs an important part of production. The plant proliferation has modified the urban scenery, has in some districts helped to develop shanty towns and to encourage the drift from the land

Full textThe objective of this work is the approach of that has become the algerian society. It tries to make understand why a country seemed "well beginning" in 1962, finds itself after three decades of development into a deep economical, social and cultural crisis. Starting from the idea that the comparative sociology is sociology itself (durkheim), this aproach tries hard each time to put in relation the algerian fact with those of the same nature observed in the occidental world seen by leading algerian elite as a model. This approach wild spread out into three convergent directions: the observation of the industrial conception of the development and its concrete spread in the national and local ground in comparison with the classical industrialization and the soviet one. . The analysis of the workers kinds which the meeting of this type of industrialization with the algerian society has proceded and their particularities related to the classical pattern of the industrial worker

Full textThe aim of the work is to analyze two relationships :1) the link between the structural transformation of the economy and the massive recruitment of women into industrial occupations ; and 2) the relation between this fact and the rise of official public action and rhetoric on the one hand and scholarly inquiry on the other. An analysis of studies of women as a work force and of the policy and discourse of international organizations (io's) regarding the role of women in the industrialization of less developed countries (ldc's) is proposed. Three case studies: the united states at the beginning of the 19th century; South Korea and Malaysia in the 1970s. In the two Asian cases, the analyses and recommendations of the io's form the global context. Against this background, the actual policies regarding women's work in industry of these countries are considered in the context of overall development theory-planning and practice. In this way, one can better appreciate the interaction and relative influence of outside general ideas and inside specific particularities. This comparative analysis brings out the common characteristics of the process in the three countries studied, in such aspects as sources of recruitment, modes of organization, terms and modalities of hire, etc. In the light of this empirical evidence, the thesis concludes with a critical appreciation of existing theories concerning women's work and women workers

Full textThe aim of this thesis is to clarify, through the Moroccan experience, the links existing between international sub-contracting and the industrialization of a country in development. Even if, it arouzed some favorable effects on employment and the structure of external trade, sub-contracting did not entail a real manufacturer dynamic. The thesis puts in light multiple insufficiencies, especially related to administrative constraints, to the training of workforce, and to the absence an entrepreneurial spirit at the Moroccan industrials. It also shows that revitalization of production system necessitats the establishing of a partnership framework between the Moroccan sub-contracting firms and the foreign principle donors. Such a possibility requires an effort from the state concerning the organization of economic and judicial environment of the firm, an integration of the concept of strategic management in the Moroccan firms' strategies, as well as an increased commitment of the international capital, in order to make this cooperation possible

Full textThis thesies studies the properties of the non interventionist approach to development and the role of budget policies. Chile is a good case study. We broaden the industrialisation model by Murphy et al (1989) by opening the economy. Firms can finance the investment needed to change technology thanks to a real depreciation followed by an appreciation. This approach has limits. We consider the determinants of the real exchange rate beyond bydgetary policies. We focus hence on the role of public services and public investment. Industrialisation may appear in this non interventionist approach. Budget policy must be contractive initially, but expansionary afterwards. The obstacles to this approach suggest that industrialisation may be delayed relative to a well designed microeconomic policy

Full textFlextronics Industrialization Group (FIG) is an international company specialised in Industrialisation services for the mobile phone industry. Industrialisation services include everything that is done to prepare a product for high-volume manufacturing. This mainly involves developing production processes, production equipment, test processes and test equipment. The high-volume manufacturing is located in low-cost countries.
This study has been performed at FIG in Linköping, where the work is carried out as projects. In 2004, a new project model called the Product Development Process (PDP) was introduced at Flextronics worldwide. As the name implies, the PDP was originally created to support product development projects, which is why it has been hard to completely utilize the PDP at FIG. The PDP has so far been considered more trouble than support. This has lead to that project managers at FIG are working differently.
The purpose of this master thesis was to develop an application of the PDP suitable for the Industrialisation projects performed at FIG. During our work internal PDP documentation was studied and interviews with project managers and sub-project managers were performed. Review meetings were held frequently during the entire study and our solutions were revised several times.
Our work has above all resulted in new processes applicable for Industrialisation projects. To make these Industrialisation processes easy to follow we have produced a guideline. This guideline provides a framework for Industrialisation projects at FIG and explains the interconnection between the PDP and our new Industrialisation PDP application. It also includes detailed descriptions of the Industrialisation processes, checklists, decision structure, project organisation and project roles and responsibilities. Due to confidentiality reasons, our solutions could not be included in their entirety in this report.
We believe that the Industrialisation PDP application will improve the work at FIG. It will be easier to follow a working method that is adapted to the specific business. Using the same working methods will support the project work, improve the way of working and make it more efficient.

Introduction -- Literature review -- Methodology -- The development and the actual situation of television industry in China -- Commercial television in the U.S. and public television in the U.K. -- Results and discussion -- Conclusions and recommendations -- Bibliography.
Over the past five decades, China's television industry has gone through various historical periods, which have seen marked changes in China's political and economic spheres, indeed in Chinese society overall. Over the last thirty years, since the reform and opening up of China in 1978, transformation of the original television systems, structure and industrial market chain has been attempted concomitant with the gradual relaxation of the restrictions applicable to China's television industry. Within these circumstances, the Chinese government, media practitioners, and scholars are actively exploring long-term, feasible and sustainable approaches to the further development of the television industry in China. The research examines China's approaches to the development of its television industry, using McQuail's political, economic and social framework, the relevant political economy traditions involving the neoclassic paradigm and the heterodox approach, and the principles of media economics and the 'market chain' theory of the television industry. This thesis first presents a concise review of how television developed in China: it then seeks to map perceived changes and to ascertain the problems throughout the process. Research methods employed are secondary data analysis, in-depth interview and focus group. Chinese scholars, officials and media practitioners are the participants of interviews and focus groups. The discussion draws on previous analyses and discussions, to assess the overall picture of television industrialisation reformation in China, additionally drawing on discourses surrounding commercial television in the United States and public television in the United Kingdom for valuable reference material that will support China's television development. The significance of this research lies in its providing an insight into China's television reformation and adding, to the field of communication and development, the Chinese experience. The research expects to propose a television development pathway with Chinese characteristics, drawing on Chinese as well as Western theories.

Full textThis research utilises theories of organisational knowledge creation from the field of knowledge management to analyse the manner in which the industrialisation of the software development industry is likely to occur. The aim of the research is to prove the following hypothesis: If the software development industry moves towards industrialisation, then knowledge assets in the format of universal production templates will come into being. The research commences by providing background information on the state of practise of software engineering by giving an overview of the changes in the industry over the past four decades. The software development industry is consequently presented from the viewpoint of the proponents of a craftsmanship based approach to software development, and from the viewpoint of those proposing that industrialisation will offer a solution to the problems besetting the industry. In this discussion the terms industrialisation as well as economies of scale and scope are defined. Potential paths and drivers that will allow the industrialisation of the industry are presented – software factories as a path towards industrialisation, and cloud computing as a driver for industrialisation. In order to supply a knowledge management perspective, the theories of Ikujiro Nonaka and Max Boisot are presented. These theories assume different perspectives on the creation of organisational knowledge, but an attempt is made to reconcile the differences between the two theories. Particular attention is paid to the economic meaning and implications of knowledge, information and data as factors of production. The concept of knowledge assets are examined in detail, and placed into the context of software development. In the last chapter the research and conclusions of the previous chapters are consolidated, to prove the central hypothesis of this work.

Full textThis study presents pasinetti's concept of vertically integrated sector (vis), developed from sraffa's notion of sub-system, which seems to be a better approach than conventional 10 analysis to describe modem economies, characterized by the existence of a complex network of interactions and by a great technological interdependence. The interest of this approach will appear in two applications to the french economy. The results are compared with those obtained by the analysis of productive influences and the constitution of technological clusters. The first application is about the sector of construction (btp) during the year 1989. Considering + btp ; as a sub-system and not as a branch, allows to describe its very structure, as much from a productive point of view as in terms of employment. We also built a typology of the sub-systems in which btp has the behaviour of an opened system, i. E. Needing important inflows from the other branches, and a diversified one, because these inflows come from many branches. We could finally measure more precisely its position in the french economy and quantify its training effects, especially in terms of employment. The second application is to innovative activities, from 1985 to 1994, based on the indicator of us patenting. We obtained a precise description of the various sub-systems regarding their technological position, the density and the direction of their interdependences. We found two types of sub-systems, with regard to their technological position : + diffusers ;, which have a great role in the diffusion of innovation, and + capturers ;, which generate other types of externalities. The study ends in a sheet of the evolution of the technological position of sub, systems during the period

Full textThe cote d'ivoire, which has often been presented as a successfully developing country owing to a long period of economic growth, has been confronted with an enduring recession since the beginning of the 1980s. This crisis questions the accumulation model based on the force born from the cultivation of coffee and cacao. Indeed, because of the prolonged decline of price markets, the agricultural surplus has gradually come to be insufficient to finance the investments necessary for development. Consequently, industrialization appears as the sole way to free the cote d'ivoire from a policy based on agricultural exports and to enable its economic growth to get back on the road to recovery and above all, to avoid an increasingly marked distance between the country's economic system and that of the world. Nonetheless, the success of such a strategy demands that the state, uhich is still a foreign body within society, should make a decision to implement and coordinate the different policies necessary for true industrialization
