Abstract:
Summary Background: A clinical registry encompasses a selective set of rigorously collected and stored clinical data focused on a specific condition. Hyponatremia has multiple, complex underlying causes and is one of the most frequent laboratory abnormalities. No systematic registries of hyponatremic patients have been reported in the medical literature. The purpose of this project was to create a registry for hyponatremia in order to obtain epidemiological data that will help to better understand this condition. Objective: This paper describes the creation of a registry for hyponatremia within a single institution that employs industry-based approaches for quality management to optimize data accuracy and completeness. Methods: A prospective registry of incident hyponatremia cases was created for this study. A formalized statistically based quality control methodology was developed and implemented to analyze and monitor all the process indicators that were developed to ensure data quality. Results: Between December 2006 and April 2009, 2443 episodes of hyponatremia were included. Six process indicators that reflect the integrity of the system were evaluated monthly, looking for variation that would suggest systematic problems. The graphical representation of the process measures through control charts allowed us to identify and subsequently address problems with maintaining the registry. Conclusion: In this project we have created a novel hyponatremia registry. To ensure the quality of the data in this registry we have implemented a quality control methodology based on industrial principles that allows us to monitor the performance of the registry over time through process indicators in order to detect systematic problems. We postulate that this approach could be reproduced for other registries.

Abstract:
The latest technological progress in the industrial sector has led to a paradigm shift in manufacturing efficiency and operational cost reduction. More often than not, this cost reduction comes at the price of dismissing information security, especially when multiple stakeholders are involved and the complexity increases. As a further matter, most of the legacy systems and smart factoring processes lack a security by design approach, making them highly vulnerable to cyber-attacks. Taking into consideration the aforementioned issues, we propose an architectural framework for Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) that provides authentication and guaranteed integrity. Our proposal properly addresses the security by design principle while combining some of the emerging technologies like Secure Multi-Party Computation (SMPC) for grounded policy rules and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) for an immutable and transparent registry.

Abstract:
The bottleneck in the process for increasing production of low CO2 mineral binders, based on BCSA (belite sulfoaluminate) clinkers, is the availability of Al-rich raw materials. For that purpose, a new registry of Al-containing secondary mineral residues (industrial and mine waste) has been developed and is presented in this paper. The methodology of creating the registry consists of three main steps: Gathering ideas, consolidation of ideas, and implementation. In order to achieve this, the following methodology was adopted: Analysis of similar registries by potential end-users and seeking potential solutions and tools to be used, and conducting 3 rounds of stakeholder consultations via workshops in order to determine crucial parameters and features the registry needs to contain. The key discussion points were about which data the registry needs to contain, who shall be the potential users, and what are the stakeholder’s expectations from the registry’s portal. Potential individual registry variables were identified as being relevant/irrelevant or available/unavailable, and potential solutions for the registry’s sustainability were explored. Each Al-rich waste/residue data entry is divided into 10 slots, describing legal status, location, quantities, chemical (REE included), mineralogical, physical and radiological properties, life-cycle assessment, additional data, and data relevancy. The registry will act as a matchmaking tool between producers/holders of Al-rich secondary raw materials and potential producers of cement clinkers.

Abstract:
Abstract Background Injured oil workers are exposed to a broad microbiome in hydraulic fracturing fluids (HFF) and oil wells at the time of injury. This includes Pseudomonas, Stenotrophomonas, Acinetobacter, and rare human pathogens which may be harder to culture. This study evaluates oil-related burn (ORB) microbiology. Methods Patients admitted to the USAISR burn center enrolled in the Epidemiology of Workplace Burns and Injuries in Texas registry from April 2011 to November 2016 were included as cases and controls. Patients hospitalized ≤2 days were excluded. ORB was defined as exposure to HFF (FORB), or non-HFF (NFORB). Controls were patients admitted with industrial burns (non-ORB). Patient demographics and clinical cultures (days 1–15) were obtained through the registry and electronic medical record. Results 149 industrial burns were included, of which 35 (23%) were ORB and 114 (77%) were non-ORB. Of the ORB, 11 (31%) were FORB and 24 (69%) were NFORB. ORB had a median age, TBSA, and Baux score of 31, 25, and 58 compared with non-ORB with 36, 4, and 44, respectively (P < 0.01). Twenty-five patients had positive cultures: 12 (48%) non-ORB and 13 (52%) ORB. Sixty Isolates identified from the ORB population included Flavobacterium, Pseudomonas, and Serratia. FORB accounted for three (25%) of the culture positive ORB. S. marcescens was isolated in 1 FORB (33%) compared with 0 NFORB and non-ORB (P < 0.05). Otherwise, there was no statistical difference in isolates. Median time to first positive culture differed among non-ORB (4 days), FORB (13 days), and NFORB (3.5 days, P = 0.03). Forty-six (31%) patients had cultures obtained during admission: three (7%) FORB, 12 (26%) NFORB, and 31 (67%) non-ORB. Of cultured patients, ORB had a median TBSA and Baux score of 44 and 90 compared with non-ORB with 11 and 47, respectively (P < 0.01). Comparing all cultured patients, ORB had more positive, negative, and total cultures compared with non-ORB with 2 vs. 0, 7 vs. 3, and 10 vs. 3, respectively (P < 0.01). Conclusion Within this cohort, ORB was associated with more severe injuries compared with non-ORB. They had more positive, negative, and total cultures, and recovery of S. marcescens was associated with FORB. Larger studies with non-culture based technology could help further define the microbiology of this uniquely exposed population. Disclosures All authors: No reported disclosures.

Abstract:
The development of the digital economy in the modern world requires solving the issue of security of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications. A large number of distributed, network-based, IIoT devices managed by intelligent programs (software agents) require protection. A successful attack on any IIoT device will lead to hacking of the IIoT application and to large financial losses, as well as to the termination of the IIoT application, therefore, the research topic is relevant. The purpose of this article is to radically solve the security problem of the IIoT application by developing a blockchain architecture of the application. The authors were tasked with investigating all aspects of the blockchain system that ensure the security of IIoT application devices. The peculiarity of the blockchain system is that its participants are software agents that control the application devices. As a result of the research, the concept of the blockchain architecture of the IIoT application is proposed. He mechanisms of consensus of intelligent programs of IIoT devices as equal active participants of the blockchain network are investigated. The consensus mechanism and the cryptographic system of the distributed registry of the blockchain network increase the information security of the IIoT application. The synergistic effect of the blockchain system and intelligent systems of software agents of IIoT application devices significantly increases the efficiency of the solution. Intelligent systems of software agents and IIoT applications are effectively trained on the blockchain platform, and as a result, we get a decentralized supercomputer in the form of a blockchain system.

Abstract:
Structure and volume of the dissertation Master’s dissertation consists of introduction, 6sections, conclusion, list of sources of 26items, 1appendix and has 22images, 24 tables. Whole dissertation volume is 83 pages, out of which list of sources takes 3pages, appendixes - 10pages. Significance of the topic. Even after two decades of digital presence and the proliferation of electronic resources in terms of creation, acquisition and use, managing them remains a cumbersome process. The process of managing electronic resources often overloads people. The lifecycle of electronic resources, especially in academic institutions, begins with the discovery and identification of the resource and proceeds to trial access, selecting a specific resource from a range of other resources with subsequent acquisition, and then encompassing user access, and then further exploring the use of the resource for further supporting and updating these resources. These processes include the cumbersome work of reviewing license agreements and keeping records properly. All these processes are time consuming and require a lot of work. These inexorable arrays of work have forced them to look for systems that will save their time and energy, as well as ensure efficient management of electronic resources. The purpose of the creation is to build and develop an information space for use in the application field, as well as to secure the registration, accounting, preservation and protection of existing, acquired or legally disclosed information on electronic information resources (EIR) with open information. It was also very important to provide users (consumers) with prompt access to information on the EIA with open information entered in the Register. To achieve this task, the following research objectives were formulated, which defined the logic of the study and its structure: - analyze existing solutions that work with industry registries; - to analyze the existing approaches of classification models that can be integrated into the developed system in the future for the classification of the desired electronic resources; - develop an EIR search model; - develop a model that will provide regulated access to resources, depending on their level of secrecy. The object of the exploration is the process of data overflow in electronic information resource management systems, which creates difficulties in finding the necessary information. The subject of the exploration is attributes of electronic information resources, which are used to build classification and search algorithms . Exploration methods. Solution of defined goals was made with usage of next methods:-method of comparative analysis of already existing solutions;-method of simulating the workload on a system and investigating its behaviour. Novelty of the results. The most valuable scientific results of masters dissertation is improving the mechanisms for classification and search of EIR. Practical value of the obtained results of the work lies in the developed application program, which is aimed at the efficient accounting of industrial registers, as well as the developed search algorithms and classification of electronic information resources.

Abstract:
Intellectual property is an instrument that gives the author the protection of their legal rights involving essential factors in property protection requirement or exclusivity resulting from intellectual activity in the industrial, scientific, literary and artistic. The brand is characterized as an element of intellectual property, since the registration of a trademark and its dissemination in the industrial scenario can become synonymous with reliability when it becomes identified as a benchmark for quality, durability of strength, status, and security for the customer's product or service. Therefore, this study aimed to verify the benefits for small and medium-sized companies that decide to register your trademark, specifically in the design of the registration of marks in Sergipe industries. For field research were used the information obtained in the questionnaires used in the industries of manufacturing segments, wood and furniture, information technology, metalworking, food, chemicals, ceramics, oil and gas and others, seeking to identify the importance attached for them to brand management. It was noted that there is a lot of resistance by entrepreneurs register their brands, especially the little knowledge about the importance of registration and the bureaucratic system involving the legal formalities.

Abstract:
Companies in the different economic sectors do not give the importance to the treatment of scrap, although their disclosure in the Financial Statements could be relevant and influence the decisions of the users of the financial information. The present non-probabilistic qualitative research of the type of case studies aims to determine if the amount of reduction produced in the productive process of the plastic companies is significant to be registered in the accounting, if the existence and integrity assertions are met; And also, to see that side effects would face this sector when validating the materiality of the scrap. We worked with a research-action design in four plastics companies of domestic and / or industrial products with the purpose of obtaining a diagnosis of the accounting problems that the industry faces with the registration and valuation of the shrinkage. For this, data were collected based on interviews with key people, visits to the production plant and obtaining financial information for their respective accounting analysis.
Abstract : Innovation is fundamental to the competitiveness of companies. Thinking about that, SEBRAE - Brazilian Service of Support to Micro and Small Companies, in partnership with CNPq - National Council of Scientific and Technological Development, created the ALI - Local Agents of Innovation Program. The objective of this program is to encourage micro and small enterprises to carry out technological and management innovations. Analyzes carried out in the ALI Program in Santa Catarina have shown that this program has given positive results to organizations, however, there is a great lack of records of industrial property. This fact is not exclusive of the industries participating in this program, but rather, of a national level: there are great obstacles in Brazil regarding the patent registration process. Nevertheless, the registration of industrial property is a significant factor for the scientific and technological development of a nation, as well as, it guarantees the protection of the innovations generated by the organizations. The general objective of this technical report was to develop a methodology for the ALI Program that allows the induction of industrial property registration by the industries of Santa Catarina, which aims to encourage and self-evaluate the feasibility of registering patents by the companies served by the program. The research methodologies used in this report were qualitative and quantitative, from descriptive typologies. The method is referred to as "Patent Funnel" and the suggestion is to apply it as a daily tool of the ALI.The Patent Funnel is a fast and easy-to-apply solution, which will bring advantages, through financial and marketing feasibility analyzes, to the entrepreneur who wants to launch an innovation.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This dissertation aims at discussing the notion and boundaries of originality as a material requisite for the validity of industrial design registration. By starting with the originality in the text of Federal Law No. n. 9.279/96 and making some distinctions adopted by doctrine and case law, the work moves to the concept of originality in the constitutional text. In sequence, the diverse aspects related directly and indirectly to the originality in the exam of merits and validity of industrial design registrations are viewed, as well as in the infringement lawsuits. Ultimately, this work searches the fundamental criteria for evaluating the distinctiveness of the designs and aims at applying some of the conclusions reached to practical scenarios.

Abstract:
The research aimed at bringing new data to the study of inequality in the distribution of wealth in the long run using the fiscal documentation available to many communities of the Marches region over a period covering the late Middle Ages and the full modern age. The political-administrative history of this territory, progressively incorporated into the Papal State, was reflected in an evolution of the methodologies for assessing wealth for tax purposes. Their characteristics have been carefully taken into account and criticized in order to ensure compatibility in time and space. Land registers, “estimi”, "libre", as well as books of “collette”, will be used to describe the fiscal capacity of taxpayers enrolled in these registers and to estimate the dynamics of economic inequality.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter presents a critical analysis of the capacity of the nation-state to develop and implement effective policy interventions on behalf of national labour interests in highly globalized industries. This follows the consistent observation that, under neoliberal capitalism, governments have lacked the power and/or will to implement pro-labour legislation in the same way as they have done for capital (Fourcades-Gourinchas and Babb 2002; Peck 2004; Kotz 2015). This discussion is developed with reference to the Tonnage Tax policy, introduced by the UK government in 2000, as the key policy strategy to revitalize the ailing shipping industry (Department for Transport 1998). In the broadest terms, the strategy is a tax concession designed to attract British ship owners to re-flag their ships to the UK national register, retain the majority of their ship management in the UK and train British seafarer cadets (Selkou and Roe 2002; Brownrigg et al. 2001; Gekara 2010). The core of the strategy, i.e. the tax element, represents an alternative system of calculating corporation tax for shipping companies based on fixed rates and with reference to a shipping company’s total operating tonnage per year rather than its total income, which represents a highly reduced rate of taxation. To specifically address the decline in the British national seafarer labour market and the supply of British officers, a Minimum Training Obligation (MTO) was included for all British-registered ships, which simultaneously incentivized and compelled shipping companies to increase their cadet recruitment and training activities (Selkou and Roe 2002).

Abstract:
This paper presents the design and implementation of a new platform that takes into consideration the requirements and constraints resulting from the industrial context based on IoT. This platform combines the “Tangle” and “Blockchain” techniques. Tangle is primarily designed to address scale-up issues and the relatively high cost (time and resource) of transactions in a traditional blockchain-based platform. Unlike the “blockchain” structure, it consists of a solid mathematical foundation called DAG (Direct Acyclic Graph). It uses a validation process in which transactions are entered into the distributed registry after authenticating two other randomly selected transactions according to a Poisson distribution (thus, the locations of the new transactions are chosen using random runs in the graph). Therefore, it is an easily scalable system that does not require mining or transaction fees. We aim to study the integration of Tangle and Blockchain techniques to improve the performance and scalability of distributed registry-based platforms to be adapted in industrial enterprises whose processes incorporate or are based on IoT.

Abstract:
Objectives/Scope Analysis of 15 years results of remote occupational health care in oil and gas production industries. Methods, Procedures, Process Continuous observation, statistical analysis of morbidity, mortality, and treatment results in industrial personnel at different endpoints depending on the variability of care models. Cost-efficacy analysis of several occupational health interventions. Targeted polls of Customers. Dynamics of new Customers. Results, Observations, Conclusions The best practices which provide the maximum efficacy include risk assessment and risk management, action planning for emergencies, telemedicine, education, registry maintenance. Each of all these gave a 10-100-fold rise in Customer satisfaction, seriously improved medical statistics. Telemedicine implies both: the delivery of highly specialized diagnostic technologies directly to the industrial production site, where a GP or paramedic is present, and it implements the direct replacement of medics with gadgets at the patient's bedside. Education involves hands-on training for both industrial personnel at remote sites and for medical professionals who provide care. The 2020-21 COVID19 pandemic was a great real stress test for remote health models when systemic integrated management procedures played a pivotal role in ensuring smooth industry operation due to the high quality of back medical services. Novel/Additive Information Modern efficient models of medical care for remote industries are necessarily comprehensive, modular, adaptive, and rely on personnel health registers. Remote health practices gain a 5-15% rise in price every year, but it pays off in greater labor productivity and in improving the health of industry personnel.

Abstract:
Keywords: design; abordagem sistêmica; serviços; inovação; patentes1. Abstract:

African Open Science Platform Part 1: Landscape Study. Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), 2019. http://dx.doi.org/10.17159/assaf.2019/0047.

Full text
Abstract:
This report maps the African landscape of Open Science – with a focus on Open Data as a sub-set of Open Science. Data to inform the landscape study were collected through a variety of methods, including surveys, desk research, engagement with a community of practice, networking with stakeholders, participation in conferences, case study presentations, and workshops hosted. Although the majority of African countries (35 of 54) demonstrates commitment to science through its investment in research and development (R&D), academies of science, ministries of science and technology, policies, recognition of research, and participation in the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI), the following countries demonstrate the highest commitment and political willingness to invest in science: Botswana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda. In addition to existing policies in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), the following countries have made progress towards Open Data policies: Botswana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, South Africa and Uganda. Only two African countries (Kenya and South Africa) at this stage contribute 0.8% of its GDP (Gross Domestic Product) to R&D (Research and Development), which is the closest to the AU’s (African Union’s) suggested 1%. Countries such as Lesotho and Madagascar ranked as 0%, while the R&D expenditure for 24 African countries is unknown. In addition to this, science globally has become fully dependent on stable ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) infrastructure, which includes connectivity/bandwidth, high performance computing facilities and data services. This is especially applicable since countries globally are finding themselves in the midst of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR), which is not only “about” data, but which “is” data. According to an article1 by Alan Marcus (2015) (Senior Director, Head of Information Technology and Telecommunications Industries, World Economic Forum), “At its core, data represents a post-industrial opportunity. Its uses have unprecedented complexity, velocity and global reach. As digital communications become ubiquitous, data will rule in a world where nearly everyone and everything is connected in real time. That will require a highly reliable, secure and available infrastructure at its core, and innovation at the edge.” Every industry is affected as part of this revolution – also science. An important component of the digital transformation is “trust” – people must be able to trust that governments and all other industries (including the science sector), adequately handle and protect their data. This requires accountability on a global level, and digital industries must embrace the change and go for a higher standard of protection. “This will reassure consumers and citizens, benefitting the whole digital economy”, says Marcus. A stable and secure information and communication technologies (ICT) infrastructure – currently provided by the National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) – is key to advance collaboration in science. The AfricaConnect2 project (AfricaConnect (2012–2014) and AfricaConnect2 (2016–2018)) through establishing connectivity between National Research and Education Networks (NRENs), is planning to roll out AfricaConnect3 by the end of 2019. The concern however is that selected African governments (with the exception of a few countries such as South Africa, Mozambique, Ethiopia and others) have low awareness of the impact the Internet has today on all societal levels, how much ICT (and the 4th Industrial Revolution) have affected research, and the added value an NREN can bring to higher education and research in addressing the respective needs, which is far more complex than simply providing connectivity. Apart from more commitment and investment in R&D, African governments – to become and remain part of the 4th Industrial Revolution – have no option other than to acknowledge and commit to the role NRENs play in advancing science towards addressing the SDG (Sustainable Development Goals). For successful collaboration and direction, it is fundamental that policies within one country are aligned with one another. Alignment on continental level is crucial for the future Pan-African African Open Science Platform to be successful. Both the HIPSSA ((Harmonization of ICT Policies in Sub-Saharan Africa)3 project and WATRA (the West Africa Telecommunications Regulators Assembly)4, have made progress towards the regulation of the telecom sector, and in particular of bottlenecks which curb the development of competition among ISPs. A study under HIPSSA identified potential bottlenecks in access at an affordable price to the international capacity of submarine cables and suggested means and tools used by regulators to remedy them. Work on the recommended measures and making them operational continues in collaboration with WATRA. In addition to sufficient bandwidth and connectivity, high-performance computing facilities and services in support of data sharing are also required. The South African National Integrated Cyberinfrastructure System5 (NICIS) has made great progress in planning and setting up a cyberinfrastructure ecosystem in support of collaborative science and data sharing. The regional Southern African Development Community6 (SADC) Cyber-infrastructure Framework provides a valuable roadmap towards high-speed Internet, developing human capacity and skills in ICT technologies, high- performance computing and more. The following countries have been identified as having high-performance computing facilities, some as a result of the Square Kilometre Array7 (SKA) partnership: Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Mauritius, Namibia, South Africa, Tunisia, and Zambia. More and more NRENs – especially the Level 6 NRENs 8 (Algeria, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, and recently Zambia) – are exploring offering additional services; also in support of data sharing and transfer. The following NRENs already allow for running data-intensive applications and sharing of high-end computing assets, bio-modelling and computation on high-performance/ supercomputers: KENET (Kenya), TENET (South Africa), RENU (Uganda), ZAMREN (Zambia), EUN (Egypt) and ARN (Algeria). Fifteen higher education training institutions from eight African countries (Botswana, Benin, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Sudan, and Tanzania) have been identified as offering formal courses on data science. In addition to formal degrees, a number of international short courses have been developed and free international online courses are also available as an option to build capacity and integrate as part of curricula. The small number of higher education or research intensive institutions offering data science is however insufficient, and there is a desperate need for more training in data science. The CODATA-RDA Schools of Research Data Science aim at addressing the continental need for foundational data skills across all disciplines, along with training conducted by The Carpentries 9 programme (specifically Data Carpentry 10 ). Thus far, CODATA-RDA schools in collaboration with AOSP, integrating content from Data Carpentry, were presented in Rwanda (in 2018), and during17-29 June 2019, in Ethiopia. Awareness regarding Open Science (including Open Data) is evident through the 12 Open Science-related Open Access/Open Data/Open Science declarations and agreements endorsed or signed by African governments; 200 Open Access journals from Africa registered on the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ); 174 Open Access institutional research repositories registered on openDOAR (Directory of Open Access Repositories); 33 Open Access/Open Science policies registered on ROARMAP (Registry of Open Access Repository Mandates and Policies); 24 data repositories registered with the Registry of Data Repositories (re3data.org) (although the pilot project identified 66 research data repositories); and one data repository assigned the CoreTrustSeal. Although this is a start, far more needs to be done to align African data curation and research practices with global standards. Funding to conduct research remains a challenge. African researchers mostly fund their own research, and there are little incentives for them to make their research and accompanying data sets openly accessible. Funding and peer recognition, along with an enabling research environment conducive for research, are regarded as major incentives. The landscape report concludes with a number of concerns towards sharing research data openly, as well as challenges in terms of Open Data policy, ICT infrastructure supportive of data sharing, capacity building, lack of skills, and the need for incentives. Although great progress has been made in terms of Open Science and Open Data practices, more awareness needs to be created and further advocacy efforts are required for buy-in from African governments. A federated African Open Science Platform (AOSP) will not only encourage more collaboration among researchers in addressing the SDGs, but it will also benefit the many stakeholders identified as part of the pilot phase. The time is now, for governments in Africa, to acknowledge the important role of science in general, but specifically Open Science and Open Data, through developing and aligning the relevant policies, investing in an ICT infrastructure conducive for data sharing through committing funding to making NRENs financially sustainable, incentivising open research practices by scientists, and creating opportunities for more scientists and stakeholders across all disciplines to be trained in data management.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
