Abstract:

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to present and exemplify traditional and neoclassical approaches to market structure and tourism firm performance analysis. The paper tackles some of the industrial economic thinking trends which were meant to fill the gaps left by the traditional approaches. Two approaches stand out from among the industrial economic trends: SCP paradigm and game theory. The results show that the strategy tourism operators prefer is to practise high prices; however there is no certainty that the competitors would adhere to such an idea at the beginning or during the season.

Abstract:
In the last forty years, performance evaluations have been conducted to evaluate the behavior of industrial manipulators throughout the workspace. The information gathered from these evaluations describes the performances of robots from different points of view. In this paper, a novel method is proposed for evaluating the maximum speed that a serial robot can reach with respect to both the position of the robot and its direction of motion. This approach, called Kinematic Directional Index (KDI), was applied to a Selective Compliance Assembly Robot Arm (SCARA) robot and an articulated robot with six degrees of freedom to outline their performances. The results of the experimental tests performed on these manipulators prove the effectiveness of the proposed index.

Abstract:
Phosphoric acid production is of major importance to the Tunisian economy. However, the quality produced is not suitable for other than agricultural use due to mineral and organic impurities. In this study, the purification of industrial phosphoric acid with a maximum P2O5 concentration of 25% was achieved by nanofiltration. Six solutions of different P2O5 concentration were used. The removal of organic (total carbon) and inorganic impurities such as magnesium, iron, chrome, zinc, cadmium and vanadium, were studied. The performances of nanofiltration (NF) Nadir NP 30 membrane were determined in terms of permeate flux and P2O5 and impurities retention taking into account the effect of transmembrane pressure, P2O5 concentration and membrane prea-treatment by purified phosphoric acid solution. Results showed that for the industrial 25% P2O5 acid solution, the use of NF membrane achieved a retention of 87.35%, 86.73%, 87.57%, 78.41% and 73.17%, respectively, for iron, aluminum, chrome, magnesium, vanadium and organic matter (kerogen and humic acids) under a pressure of 20 bar. P2O5 permeation increased with the increase of its concentration in the acidic feed solution. The best permeation is provided by 25% P2O5 feeding acid solution which is of almost 98%.

The advancements in gas sensors application with maximum performances in selectivity, response, accuracy in resistance measurements and inexpensive fabrication cost has led researcher to develop and new outstand nanomaterials for environmental safety. In this study, we followed a simple hydrothermal route to synthesize ultrathin NiCo2O4 nanosheets used in gas sensing applications. The wide surface area of nanosheets provides plenty of surface area for the adsorption of HCHO gas molecules. The nanostructures are testified using XRD, XPS, SEM and TEM, respectively. The nanosheets are tested for diverse gases at assorted effective temperature ranges, and shows high response and selectivity towards formaldehyde gas. The outstanding gas-sensing properties of ultrathin NiCo2O4 nanosheets based sensor make it a potential candidate in industrial applications.

Abstract:
The industrial Ethernet technology has been gradually applied to the high-speed train. However, different network topologies can have big impact on the quality of communication. The real-time and reliability performances of the high-speed train to which three kinds of network topology structures of the linear, the ring and the ladder are applied based on industrial Ethernet are analyzed in theory according to IEC61375(2009). Four kinds of application data are built to modify the data transmission in this paper. The three structures are simulated with the OPNET modeler. Afterwards, the network performances are compared in the simulation. At last, a conclusion that the performance of the ladder network structure is superior to that of the linear and the ring network structure is drew. The results of the study could provide the reference value of the construction and majorization of the network topology structure based on the industrial Ethernet.

Abstract:
This paper investigates regional performances of China's and the world's largest commercial bank: the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), by its spatial patterns and geographical distribution of deposits. Moran I of Geoda software and the Local Indicators of Spatial Association (LISA) are applied. Empirical evidence shows that overall performances of ICBC depended consistently on Yangtze River Delta and Bohai Sea region while performances of other regions were relatively lower-performed during this period. Interestingly, branches performances in coastal provinces were not necessarily better than those in interior provinces because branches in Pearl River Delta were constantly under-performed. Furthermore, we identified that spatial effects and workers population have large, statistically significant impacts on branches' performances by employing spatial econometric tools. However, workers population have reverse effects on deposits performances. Evidences indicate that the bank branches performances of deposits rely on transferring deposits from less worker-concentrated areas or acquiring deposits through other sources: corporate, governmental accounts. It is the competitive advantage that ICBC becomes the most profitable bank from economies of scales and scopes in procuring deposit through various sources and making loans in worker-populated areas where funds are highly demanded. These also illuminate the future improvement and direction for bank management and government policy.

Abstract:
This paper describes a collaborative effort by industry, government, and academia to evaluate the use of design-information technology (D/IT) in building and industrial projects and to relate the degree of use to project performance. A detailed statistical analysis of 566 projects in the Construction Industry Institute (CII) database is used to produce baseline measures of performance and D/IT use. The relationship between these measures is used to assess the economic value of using the technologies. The results of this study establish that projects benefit from D/IT use. Owners experienced project cost savings of 2.1% and contractors experienced cost savings of 1.8% as D/IT use increased. Construction schedule growth was reduced by 5.6% for owners and by 6.4% for contractors with increased D/IT use. Impacts on safety performance are less clear: owners obtain quantifiable safety benefits, whereas for contractors, the impact was minimal. The statistical analyses also confirm that reductions in project development, scope changes, and field rework are associated with increased D/IT use.

Abstract:
The industrial robot’s dynamic performance is frequently measured by positioning accuracy at high speeds and a good dynamic controller is essential that can accurately compute robot dynamics at a servo rate high enough to ensure system stability. A real-time dynamic controller for an industrial robot is developed here using neural networks. First, an efficient time-selectable hidden layer architecture has been developed based on system dynamics localized in time, which lends itself to real-time learning and control along with enhanced mapping accuracy. Second, the neural network architecture has also been specially tuned to accommodate servo dynamics. This not only facilitates the system design through reduced sensing requirements for the controller but also enhances the control performance over the control architecture neglecting servo dynamics. Experimental results demonstrate the controller’s excellent learning and control performances compared with a conventional controller and thus has good potential for practical use in industrial robots.

Abstract:
The performance analysis of an energy constrained Internet of Things (IoT) system with unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is provided in this paper. In the considered system, a power beacon is used for the energy supply of a sensor node that has no other power sources, while the UAV is used for the collection of sensor data. The outage and capacity performances are analyzed under the assumption of a Nakagami-m fading environment, for the case when the power and information transfer are performed based on the time-switching protocol and the UAV is randomly positioned at a certain height. Based on the provided analysis we derive the exact closed-form expressions for the outage probability, the outage capacity and the ergodic capacity of the power beacon assisted IoT system. The analytical results are confirmed using an independent simulation method. The performed analysis demonstrates the impact of various system and channel parameters on system performances.

In this paper, we investigate the research question ‘How are female dialect users from former industrial areas depicted in the media?’ by comparing media representations from two former industrial areas, namely Heerlen/Parkstad in the Netherlands and Østfold in Norway. Both representations are parodic and can be characterised as ‘high performances’ (Johnstone 2011, p. 658), and we argue that these performances are informed by the class-divided, previously industrial societies in Heerlen/Parkstad and Østfold. Our results show that being local seems to conflict with normative conceptions of femininity in these representations.

Abstract:
Industrial crop cultivation on marginal agricultural land limits indirect land-use change effects that pose a threat to food security. This review compiles results from 91 published crop-specific field trial datasets spanning 12 relevant industrial crops and discusses their suitability for cultivation on unfavorable soil types (USTs). It was shown that the perennial species Miscanthus (Miscanthus Andersson) and reed canary grass (Phalaris arundinacea L.) performed well on USTs with both high clay and/or high sand contents. Information on stoniness (particles sizes > 2 mm), where mentioned, was limited. It was found to have only a small impact on biological yield potential, though it was not possible to assess the impact on mechanization as would be used at a commercial scale. For soils with extreme clay or sand contents, half of the crops showed moderate suitability. The large yield variations within and between crops revealed large knowledge gaps in the combined effects of crop type and agronomy on USTs. Therefore, more field trials are needed on diverse USTs in different climates with better equipment and more consistent measurements to improve the accuracy of potential yield predictions spatially and temporally. Additionally, larger trials are needed to optimize cultivation and harvesting.

Abstract:
The primary objective of this study is to scrutinize the industrialization patterns across 36 member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) spanning from 1990 to 2021, adopting a club convergence approach. This study employed the Competitive Industrial Performance (CIP) index developed by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. The CIP index serves as a yardstick for assessing countries’ effectiveness in manufacturing and exporting industrial goods, facilitating comparisons of industrial competitiveness across nations. The empirical findings derived from the convergence methodology established by Phillips & Sul (2007, 2009) unveiled the absence of convergence in CIP among OIC countries yet delineate the existence of four distinct convergence clusters. Notably, the CIP scores of countries exerted a significant influence on the formation of these clusters, with member states within the same cluster exhibiting comparable CIP performances. This outcome underscored the persistent dual structure characterizing the OIC panel, wherein nations with lower CIP standings failed to converge toward those with higher performance levels.

Abstract:
Brayton cycles are open gas turbine cycles extensively used in civil aviation and the petrochemical industry because of their advantageous volume and weight characteristics. With the bulk of engine emissions associated, it is necessary to promote their environmentally-friendliness, including sound technical performance regularly. This research considers high bypass-low specific power plants in aviation and aero-derivative gas turbines combined-heat-and-power generation in the petrochemical industry. The investigation encompasses the comparative assessment of simple and advanced gas turbine cycle options including the component behaviour of the systems. This comprises the performance module. The research has contributed to understanding the technical performances of simple and advanced cycle helicopter engines, and aero-derivative industrial gas turbine cycles at design and off-design conditions. The simple cycles were modified for better fuel burn and thermal efficiency by using some additional components to form the advanced cycles. The helicopter engine investigated was converted to a small-scale aero-derivative industrial engine. Modeling the combined-heat-and-power performance of the small, medium, and large-scale aero-derivative industrial gas turbines was also implemented. The contribution also includes understanding the technical performances of both simple and advanced aero-derivative gas turbines combined heat-and-power at design and off-design A case study underlies the development and deployment of this model. The novelty is the conception of a tool for predicting the most preferred simple and advanced cycle aero-derivative engines combined heat-and-power generation in the petrochemical industry and the derivation of simple and advanced cycle small-scale aero-derivative industrial gas turbines from helicopter engines.

Abstract:
Abstract The performance of biological treatment using a downflow hanging sponge reactor as post-treatment of agro-industrial wastewater has been recognized worldwide. However, the effectiveness of the system in treating POME is remain unknown. Therefore, with this background in mind, an anaerobic treatment operated at COD loading rate of 0.4-0.6 kg/m3/day, HRT of 2 hours and input pH of 7.6 was run using a DHS reactor packed with sponge media for the treatment of POME. During the study, the output concentration performances of COD (32-58%), Colour (41-76%), ammoniacal nitrogen (66-92%) and phosphate (54-87%) were recorded. These results indicate comparable performances with the existing biological treatment system. However, it also offered additional credits in-term of fouling and clogging issues, practically as well as lower cost and energy consumption. Thus, it will be great to have a system that is capable to provide a simple technology which is affordable to various industrial scales.

Abstract:
The proliferation of media technologies has redefined theatre performance in contemporary times. This modification which includes mixed-media and mediatization; interactive media; social media; aesthetic communication and spectacle have resulted in a high level of change. As audiences visit the theatre with an increased level of aesthetic taste and newer lens to view performance, theatre directors and designers struggle to find newer methods to tell the dramatic story and create performances to meet the high demand. Sadly, for Christian theatres, especially in Nigeria, the handful of theatre directors and designers actually embracing these new developments have barely scratched the surface of the ongoing renaissance in theatre performance. And this is due to a dearth of documentation on the modus operandi necessary for the creation of these contemporary Christian theatre performances. Sight & Sound Theatres (USA), is a faith-based Christian Theatre in the league of Broadway Theatre with several biblical stories presented on sophisticated stages. This paper engages Ole Thyssen’s ‘Aesthetic Communication theory’ as theoretical framework. It is a descriptive study which engages a content analysis of Sight & Sound’s performance of “Joseph”, and documents the technical details of creating contemporary Christian performances with the example of “Joseph”. Observably, Sight & Sound Theatres prioritizes the inclusion of media and technical elements into performance to enhance performance quality and ensure effective communication of the dramatic story. Hence, by documenting these elements, Sight & Sound Theatres provide a template for the creation of performance in contemporary times, indeed, Christian theatrical productions around the globe.

Abstract:
Economic and environmental issues translating into energy costs and pollution within the production environment are increasingly attracting attention. Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) is gaining ever-higher importance within production environments. Since cosmetic consumers and companies are becoming increasingly sensitive to sustainability, the cosmetic field is working to reduce the environmental and social impact along the whole supply chain. Furthermore, IEE actions in business processes can lead to several medium- and long-term economic and environmental benefits. This paper is the first work in the literature presenting a real-case application of energy analysis and modeling to achieve better energy performances in a cosmetics production process. Thus, in the body of knowledge, it contributes by providing a real case of good practice to be benchmarked for future IEE interventions in cosmetics manufacturing processes. The work has been conducted by analyzing the production process’s energy consumption and developing an energy model of a selected machine (i.e., a turbo-emulsifier). The analysis and modeling performed aimed at assessing the different operational phases of the machine and evaluating the different behaviors of the data. Finally, the results allowed us to propose possible improvements to be applied to the production process to achieve better energy performances.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The automation of bin-picking processes has been a research topic for almost two decades. General-purpose equipment, however, still does not show adequate success rates to find application in most industrial tasks. Human–robot collaboration in bin–picking tasks can increase the success rate by exploiting human perception and handling skills and the robot ability to perform repetitive tasks. The aim of this paper, starting from a general-purpose industrial bin picking equipment comprising a 3D–structured light vision system and a collaborative robot, consists in enhancing its performance and possible applications through human–robot collaboration. To achieve successful and fluent human–robot collaboration, the robotic workcell must meet some hardware and software requirements that are defined below. The proposed strategy is tested in some sample tests: the results of the experimental tests show that collaborative functions can be particularly useful to overcome typical bin picking failures and to improve the fault tolerance of the system, increasing its flexibility and reducing downtimes.

Abstract:
In this paper an argument is put for a reconceptualization of the theory of US industrial unionism. It reflects lessons learnt about the patterns and determinants of the electoral performance of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union and the United Auto Workers union over the period 1970–82. Empirically, the spatial and temporal diversity of unions' electoral performance is emphasized. Theoretically, it is suggested that unions' performances in representation elections are the product of a complex array of processes and their interrelationships. Diversity of patterns and complexity of processes makes forecasting the future of industrial unionism a risky project. Also considered are competing theories of unionism and the methodologies for analyzing union electoral performance. Based on these observations, a case is made for the necessity of a ‘new’ framework for understanding the geography of US unionism.

Abstract:
The need to reduce the environmental impacts of the food industry is increasing together with the dramatic increment of global food demand. Circulation strategies such as the exploitation of self-produced renewable energy sources can improve ecological performances of industrial processes. However, evidence is needed to demonstrate and characterize such environmental benefits. This study assessed the environmental performances of industrial processing of maize edible oil, whose energy provision is guaranteed by residues biomasses. A gate-to-gate Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach was applied for a large-size factory of Northern Italy to describe: (i) the environmental impacts related to industrial processing and (ii) the contribution of residue-based bioenergy to their mitigation, through the comparison with a reference system based on conventional energy. The results showed that oil refinement is the most impacting phase for almost all the considered impact categories. The use of residue-based bioenergy was found to drastically reduce the emissions for all the impact categories. Moreover, Cumulative Energy Demand analysis revealed that the use of biomass residues increased energy efficiency through a reduction of the total energy demand of the industrial process. The study demonstrates that the exploitation of residue-based bioenergy can be a sustainable solution to improve environmental performances of the food industry, while supporting circular economy.

Abstract:
The paper presents two approaches for the thermodynamic cycle analysis applied to gas turbines. For a 1,500 kW industrial engine, still in development, different configurations are considered, the most complex including intercooling and heat recovery components. The theoretical algorithm, a conventional compromise between simplicity and accuracy, is presented in the first part of the paper. The second part describes a numerical approach for calculating the operating cycle of a gas turbine and presenting the methods for preparing the particular required format. The conclusions are related to the future work necessary for finalizing a numerical code able to analyse different gas cycle options allowing to obtain the desired output power and efficiency.
