Abstract:
The set logistic parameters have a significant impact on industrial production, investment decisions and economic performance. The degree of detail also depends on the available information flows embedded in the batch production process from a logistical point of view. The established logistical parameters directly affect the flows themselves (material, personnel, information, technological, and waste disposal) along the entire production chain-from production to marketing- including their changing state in terms of technological features of the equipment and aggregates. It also affects the management and organizational structure.

Introduction. The concept, methodology and tools for managing labor productivity in an industrial enterprise through a new model of operational production management are proposed. In this model, the completeness of work-in-progress is managed to create reserves of parts and assembly units at the regulatory level at all stages of the production cycle, taking into account the dynamics of production. The production queue of parts and assembly units is a tool for drawing up operational planning tasks for production sites, maintaining the completeness of the reserves and a key factor in the formation of a time resource for increasing production output. The situational approach to the formation of the production queue takes into account the continuously changing production situations in a multi-product production of different types. Research methods. The concept of labor productivity management at an industrial enterprise is developed on the basis of a systematic analysis of various internal and external factors that affect the organization of rhythmic production and uniform output of finished products in accordance with a given schedule, and their consideration in the new model of operational production management. As the main tools in the system of operational production planning, a dynamic schedule for the production of parts and assembly units and a production queue (the queue for performing technological operations) are accepted. The mechanism of labor productivity management at an industrial enterprise uses a set of managed parameters-indicators for operational planning, accounting and regulation of the completeness of work in progress, production stocks and production costs. The results of the study. The theoretical and methodological foundations of operational management of labor productivity at an industrial enterprise are developed within the framework of a universal system of operational management for multi-nomenclature, multi-type, dynamic production. We propose manageable parameters that allow you to manage the completeness of work in progress, production stocks and production costs, eliminate losses of any kind, and use the saved resources to increase labor productivity at an industrial enterprise in modern conditions. A new dynamic model of operational management of production is constructed, which allows to adapt to constant changes, taking into account the uncertainty and ambiguity of the environment. This model is suitable for digital modeling and planning of production processes. Conclusion. The proposed methodology allows you to perform and create time resources to increase production productivity in an industrial enterprise by maintaining production stocks and complete work-in-progress at the standard level, reducing production costs by saving various resources and reducing the production cycle.

Abstract:
Purpose Field expertise in industry is often poorly recorded and unexploited. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a methodology and tool that incorporates a knowledge validation loop to leverage upon human-contributed field observations in industrial maintenance management. Starting from a failure mode, effects and criticality analysis (FMECA) model, it defines a collaborative process that links FMECA knowledge with field maintenance practice. Design/methodology/approach A metadata management system is designed to encourage staff involvement in enriching knowledge with field observations. The process supports easy feedback and collaborative annotation and is pilot tested via an industrial case study. Findings Streamlining FMECA validation is welcomed by maintenance staff, empowering them to exert more control over the management, usage and versioning of reference knowledge. Research limitations/implications The methodology for metadata management in industrial maintenance enables staff participation in a collaborative knowledge enrichment process. Metadata management is a pre-cursor and therefore an important step to drive future analytics. Practical implications Industry personnel are more inclined to contribute to organisational knowledge if the process is based on reference knowledge and requires minimal interaction. Social implications Facilitating individual contribution to collective knowledge strengthens the sense that each staff member can have organisational impact. Originality/value The paper introduces a methodology and tool to stimulate human-contributed knowledge in industrial maintenance, strengthening collaborative organisation knowledge flows.

Abstract:
The issue of occupational safety improving methods has been considered based on the example of a single enterprise. The area of improvement of activities a priori aiming at occupational safety has been chosen. In particular, the optimization of risk management stages at the workplace has been proposed. A risk management methodology consisting of standard stages (identification, assessment, management) but including separate improved levels or elements has been developed. A set of tables for volumetric, qualitative, and quantitative identification of hazards enabling the reduction of the number of unaccounted risks at the workplace has been formed. For the risk assessment stage, the application of an increasing human factor coefficient that reflects the individual characteristics of an employee affecting risk levels at the workplace has been proposed. For the relevant cases, it is recommended to use the machinery equipment assessment model to detect more risks at the workplace equipped with a machine. The occupational risk management stage has been improved due to differentiated and clarified formulations of hazards, which allows for choosing a correct and efficient measure. The methodology is also supplemented with a set aiming at occupational and industrial stress. For the identification stage, a set of parameters has been selected to determine psychosocial risks. The risk management process has been improved in the part of stress factors. In order to substantiate the performance and efficiency of the improved methodology as compared with the methodology applied at the enterprise, a comparative analysis of the two methodologies has been conducted at 10 different workplaces. The data confirming the increase of performance and efficiency of the improved methodology has been provided, which logically, on the condition of the consistent implementation of all occupational risk management stages, will reduce risks at the workplace and the number of industrial injuries, and ensure increased occupational safety.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the discussion of the organization of enterprise management in the conditions of dynamically developing impacts, which include both abnormal production situations and accelerated innovative changes in production processes to increase competitiveness. Based on a comparative analysis of information flows of various levels of production management, it is shown that the main information tasks related to responding to a dynamically developing situation should be solved at the level of operational management of the enterprise, which requires the unification of descriptions of the parameters taken into consideration, as well as a significant reduction in the dimension of the problem being solved. As the main method of organizing enterprise management in dynamically changing external conditions, the authors propose to use a situational approach to managing complex systems based on the representation of the situation in the form of logical and linguistic models. At the same time, it seems necessary to build a semantic analysis of the necessary arrays of production documents based on methods and means of thematic modeling of texts based on their vector representation. The paper shows the ways of automated identification of latent topics in the texts of documents, signaling the possible occurrence of a particular emergency. To simplify the procedures for making informed decisions in the workplace, it is proposed to use situational content specially provided to employees describing the current dynamic information environment and possible ways to respond to it. The novelty of the work lies in the creation of a uniform approach to the semantic analysis of heterogeneous production documentation and the formulation of proposals for the inclusion of such analytical procedures in the corporate content management system as a specialized application. The components of the solution described in the article have passed the testing stage and are used to automate the semantic analysis of documentary streams and the creation of situational content.

Abstract:
The objective of this paper is to introduce and discuss the basics of a methodology called the Probabilistic Critical Path Method (PCPM) for managing the previously identified risks (uncertainty) of the three project management dimensions: time, cost and return (performance). An interactive Graphic User Interface (GUI) has been designed for visualizing the tradeoffs among these three dimensions as well as their uncertainties on a flat computer screen. The user can choose to visualize the probability of failure (exceeding some user given due date, budget or not exceeding a given Minimally Attractive Rate of Return – MARR) or the probability of success (not exceeding the due date and the budget and exceeding the MARR). PCPM allows for comprehensive project risk management and it constitutes a new integrative project risk management framework. This paper shows that it is possible to integrate all three project management dimensions (time, cost and return) and show their known risks as well as determining the optimal cost and the associated time and return for such optimal cost. Finally, it is possible to interactively show all this multidimensional information on a flat computer screen.

The article defines the criteria for the effectiveness of social management of an industrial enterprise. Some methodological approaches used in evaluating the effectiveness of social management are considered. The authors propose a methodology for determining the effectiveness of social management of an enterprise, which is based on the use of certain conditional calculated indicators and can be applied in the conditions of digitalization of the economy, and also involves implementation in several stages. The effectiveness of social management, according to the authors, must be assessed based on the results of the implementation of the social development plan developed for each enterprise. The authors recommend taking this approach to assessing the effectiveness of social management as one of the examples of the search for specific ways to create objective prerequisites and a methodological basis for studying a systematic approach to organizing work.

Abstract:
In the last years the Living Labs (LLs) approach is becoming really important to test new products/services in real-life settings. Following the perspective of user-centered innovation emerged by the critical review of the existing international LLs’ methodologies, this paper describes how, in the Living Lab related to KHIRA research project, research activities and innovation are integrated, according to a public-private-person partnership (PPPP), to develop innovation processes, participated and user-centered, in the industrial sector. The LL related to KHIRA research project involves several users categories: industrial partners, universities and research centers, SMEs belonging to Apulian manufacturing industry, public administrations, and other users. A heterogeneous users’ community can produce new ideas of products and services oriented to solve real industrial problems as those related to the product life-cycle management (PLM) in complex manufacturing environments. Purpose of this study is to present a methodology that can be used in the industrial LLs aimed at developing new products/services in complex environments, bridging the existing gap between the LLs’ activities management and those aimed to develop user-centered innovation.

Abstract:
Industry is the backbone of the economy of developed countries and individual regions. To optimize management processes in such a complex and multi-level sector, specific economic-mathematical models and practical tools have to be developed. The paper discusses the optimal architecture of the regional industrial complex management model on a modern theoretical-methodological and instrumental (program) basis. The classical management theory, optimization theory and game theory constitute the methodology of this study. Among the research methods applied are agent-based and minimax approaches. We substantiate the use of agent-based modelling to simulate administering the regional industrial complex. The paper presents a three-tiered management architecture consisting of federal, regional and company level authorities (united by type of activity). For each level, control agents are identified and a set of indicators formed, which cover the structure of the phase vector, including its attributes, key parameters, control actions used, risks, a model of the parameters’ dynamics, and a model of the data possessed by the object. We build a hierarchical structure of administration and information relationships in the model and, based on the minimax approach, create an algorithm of agents’ efforts to select optimal control actions. The proposed architecture will allow forming a flexible toolkit for assessing industrial development scenarios and producing the best step-by-step management pattern of the regional industrial complex.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to a comprehensive assessment and improvement of the level of regional development on the basis of determining the effectiveness of the mechanism of sustainable development of the region, developing methodical principles for the formation of regional and local strategies for ensuring sustainable development. The purpose is to substantiate the methodology and means of integral assessment to implement the principle of equalization of sustainable development of regions in the aspect of information and innovation support by means of theories of social development, systems, clustering of the economy and economic information theory.A methodological approach was proposed for assessing the level and trends of sustainable development of the region, based on the analysis of declarations, program and final documents of UN conferences on economic, social and environmental issues. The approach is based on the use of an integral index whose evaluation and analysis results can be used to solve problems and are implemented in the process of making sound management decisions. This approach made it possible to formulate, by means of factor analysis, a refined system of indicators that characterize economic, social and environmental sustainability parameters. The typical groups of industrial regions of Ukraine were identified and the level of socio-ecological and economic development was assessed. This made it possible, based on the procedures for reducing the dimension and constructing generalized indicators, to calculate the rating for each calculated integral indicator as a generalized estimate. The calculations that have been carried out make it possible to determine the trends of sustainable development of individual regions on the factors of development and to justify promising directions for effective growth and negative trends, which require the greatest attention from the state authorities and local self-government bodies.

Abstract:
A fundamental requirement of any environmental management system for industrial sites is the identification and assessment of risk. To meet international standards in terms of environmental protection and preservation, industrial sites should ensure that a comprehensive environmental risk management process is in place by systematically identifying and managing risks arising from internal and external factors. The purpose of this study was to develop a new methodology to determine the significance of environmental hazardous situations associated with a process or activity. It uses qualitative or quantitative techniques to pinpoint weaknesses in design, operation, and lines of defense provided by engineering and administrative controls, which can lead to an environmentally hazardous event. It may also provide an assessment of risk resulting from the magnitude of the consequence and the probability of the environmental event occurring. The fundamental principle of this new risk-based hazard methodology is that whilst risk cannot be eliminated, it should be possible to reduce to ALARP (as low as reasonably practicable), and the environmental risk matrix could be a useful tool for establishing if an environmental risk rating is tolerable or not based on the likelihood and consequences. The outcome of this study is developing a new environmental risk matrix based on different consequences (health, environmental, reputation, and business interruption) with likelihood criteria. This matrix could be applied by industrial sites to identify and control their environmental risks.

Abstract:
When investigating large industrial site with very limited site historical information and monitoring data, there will be many challenges to determine the remediation cost and strategy. Here the author illustrates a methodology of risk assessment management for large industrial area. Based on proper conceptual model and professional judgement, a score card for each single site can be generated, including the risk scores for the source, path and receptors. Eventually the score results of the sites can be presented on the overall map through different colour. It is an efficient and direct way which can help the decision maker to tell the priority of allocating the resource for site investigation. The ranking of the site’s score will also show an expected cost level of the sites, which could remind the developer to apply more economical strategy at early planning stage.

Abstract:
The essence of financial risk is considered, the sources of uncertainty are singled out, and the definition of financial risk is established. The theoretical aspects of the financial risk management system and the mechanism of their implementation are characterized. The types of financial risks are defined. The main goal of the financial risk system is highlighted; it is the maintenance of the stability of the enterprise in the process of its development, the minimization of losses in economic operations. Therefore, it should solve the following tasks: identifying the most significant threats and identifying weaknesses in the company’s activities. It is outlined that the monitoring of financial risks is a set of information-analytical and control measures for managing financial risks, the content of which is to collect and process the necessary information about changes in relevant indicators, as well as providing results for the analysis of deviations and the assessment of their impact on the FIC. A number of methods and mathematical models for diagnosing the probability of bankruptcy of commercial organizations was considered. It is summarized that the simplest bankruptcy diagnostic method is a two-factor mathematical model, during the construction of which only two indicators are taken into account: the ratio of current liquidity and the specific weight of these funds in liabilities. Different ways of adapting ‘imported’ models (‘five-factor model’ by E. Altman, two-factor mathematical model) to domestic economic conditions are considered, and later Altman developed a similar, but more accurate model, which makes it possible to predict bankruptcy for the next five years with accuracy up to 70%. W. Beaver proposed a five-factor system for assessing the financial condition of an enterprise in order to diagnose bankruptcy. It consists of the following indicators: profitability of assets, specific weight of borrowed funds in liabilities, current liquidity ratio, share of net working capital in assets, Beaver ratio = (net profit + depreciation) / borrowed funds. It was determined that on the basis of statistical data processing, it is possible to apply a system of anti-crisis diagnostics techniques. Scientists equate diagnostics with a tool of anti-crisis policy. Keywords: risks, financial risks, bankruptcy, anti-crisis management, industry, forest industry, forest industry complex (FIC).

Abstract:
The main target of climate change policies in the majority of industrialized countries is to reduce energy consumption in their facilities, which would reduce the carbon emissions that are generated. Through this idea, energy management plans are developed, energy reduction targets are established, and energy-efficient technologies are applied to achieve high energy savings, which are environmentally compatible. In order to evaluate the impact of their operations and investments, companies promote measures of performance in their energy management plans. An integral part of measuring energy performance is the establishment of energy baselines applicable to the complete facility that provide a basis for evaluating energy efficiency improvements and incorporating energy performance indicators. The implementation of energy management systems in accordance with the requirements of ISO Standard 50001 is a contribution to the aim and strategies for improving cleaner production in industries. This involves an option for the industry to establish energy benchmarks to evaluate performance, predict energy consumption, and align production with the lowest possible consumption of primary and secondary forms of energy. Ultimately, this goal should lead to the manufacturing of cleaner products that are environmentally friendly, energy efficient, and are in accordance with the global environmental targets of cleaner manufacturing. This paper discusses an alternative for establishing energy baselines for the industrial sector in which several products are produced from a single raw material, and we determined the energy consumption of each product and its impact on the overall efficiency of the industry at the same time. The method is applied to the plastic injection process and the result is an energy baseline (EBL) in accordance with the requirements of ISO 50001, which serves as a reference for determining energy savings. The EBL facilitates a reduction in energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in sectors such as plastics, a sector which accounts for 15% of Colombia’s manufacturing GDP.

Abstract:
Tax planning at the micro level is defined as a system of measures of the enterprise aimed at maximizing the possibilities of current legislation in order to legally optimize tax payments; tax budgeting - a system of measures aimed at determining the planned amount of tax payments payable by the enterprise in future periods; calculation of current tax payments - a system of measures aimed at calculating the actual amount of tax payments payable by the enterprise in the current reporting period. Optimization of tax payments at the micro level involves compliance with such conditions of economic activity of the enterprise, under which the profitability of the industrial enterprise is approaching the maximum, and business risks - to the minimum. The goal of the article is to study the experience of organizing tax planning at industrial enterprises, the sequence of its stages; and propose a methodology for tax planning in an industrial enterprise. The proposed methodology of tax planning is based on system and project approaches, and, in particular, provides for: systematization of tax schemes and their selection according to the priority of use in the development of tax planning projects; selection of the optimal project on the basis of optimality criteria; comprehensive analysis of the tax field and the results of tax planning; current monitoring of the implementation of tax plans, the results of which offset the impact of negative factors through the use of backup and emergency projects. The methodology of tax planning at an industrial enterprise should be based on a systematic and project-based approach with the implementation of: systematization of the tax schemes and their selection according to the priority of use in the development of tax planning projects; selection of the optimal project, based on optimality criteria; comprehensive analysis of the tax field and the results of tax planning; ongoing monitoring of the implementation of the tax plans.Tax planning in industrial enterprises is a complex, integrated process, the rationalization of which should be based on a systematic approach using the achievements of economic, financial and legal disciplines. The introduction of tax planning in the management system of an industrial enterprise allows to make more meaningful conclusions about the further development of activities and reduce the risk of making wrong decisions in a particular problem situation.

Abstract:
Purpose Within the current industrial context, companies aim to decrease the design process time and cost. The multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) appears as a solution to accelerate the process and support designers in different stages of the design cycle. However, this relatively new concept needs to be integrated efficiently in the industrial environment and issues related to collaboration, data management, traceability and reuse need to be overcome. Design/methodology/approach The aim of this work is to efficiently integrate the MDO in the industrial design cycle by means of knowledge management (KM) techniques. To take into account the industrial environment, the methodology was applied in a collaborative software. Findings An example of collaborative design and optimization of an electronic throttle body (ETB) controller is presented with industrial requirements. The design problem was solved successfully and demonstrates the efficiency of the methodology in collaborative environments. Originality/value The contributions of this work lie in the structuration of the knowledge to support MDO and the definition of a general way to connect the existent MDO tools to the knowledge base. This methodology will enable to freely link different steps of the design process and reduce considerably the setting time of MDO in industries.

Abstract:
In writing this paper the author has consciously stood apart from his earlier works and attempted to dispassionately review his own position so that some degree of clarity of thought might emerge in the process. The paper is based on the author’s contribution between 1992 and 2012 to this subject and which has been used as the basis for several doctoral level investigations under the author’s guidance. They had played a major role in helping the author to crystallize his views. To these scholars, therefore, the author’s gratitude is unflinchingly extended. Management has been described as being concerned with and based on the science of decision making and operating from the foundations of the art of decision executing. Hence, research in the area of modern Human Resources Management, especially, is both interesting and challenging having its one foot planted in industrial sociology and industrial psychology while the other placed in supply chain management and organisational restructuring. Hence, the argument of this paper is more relevant to serious research scholars and to those management teachers who wish to pursue rigorous academic research. This is not meant for those in the cut-copy-paste league, which unfortunately is, of late, becoming quite prevalent within the Indian academia.

Abstract:
Purpose: Project-Based Learning (PBL) is considered to be an active learning methodology which can be used to develop both technical and transversal competences in engineering programs. This methodology demands a great deal of work effort from the students and also from the teachers and it requires a meticulous plan and a well-managed project as well. These activities go far beyond the normal activities in traditional lectures, enabling to outpace the difficulties that spur along the way that may be both complex and demotivating. This methodology has been implemented in the Integrated Master Degree on Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM), at one public university in Portugal, since the 2004/2005 academic year. The aim of this paper is to identify and discuss the main difficulties of the implementation of PBL, mainly from the teachers’ perspectives. Additionally, some effective strategies will be recommended to overcome such difficulties.Design/methodology/approach: The perceptions of the teachers were collected through a survey based on six main themes. The participants in the study include eight teachers from the five courses of the first semester of the first year of the IEM program involved in the 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 editions.Findings: Integration of courses in the project; student assessment; growing number of students in each team and the need of physical spaces for them; and compartmentalized knowledge has emerged as the main difficulties. To overcome these difficulties some key strategies were recommended.Originality/value: A new perspective based on course teachers' views and experiences will deepen the understanding of the problems and provide inputs for the development of strategies that may improve the effectiveness of PBL and introduce changes for its successful implementation. These strategies are intended to be transferable to other contexts, as most of the problems and constraints are common to other active learning approaches.

Abstract:
Experience of the leading port industrial complexes indicated high socio-economic performance indicators. However, not every port becomes a basis for formation of a port industrial complex. In different countries, formation happens differently. According to the functional problems, Russian port industrial territories have a lack of development of managerial approaches to its formation and development. Overview of the development of Russian port industrial complexes shows that shortage of research on strategical management, including investment and institutional aspects, leads to an absence of methodological basis for engineering industrial port zones, as well as its strategical development. This requires detection of typical problems of the development of Russian and foreign port industrial complexes, definition of influencing factors, and systematization of managerial experience. During research process, methodology for system economic theory, which is best suited for a complicated territorial facility, was used. Such methodology considers interrelations among environmental, process, project, and object aspects. Namely, the problems of formation and development of port industrial complexes, as well as factors contributing to its growing potential, were identified and systematized in comparative order.

Abstract:
A conceptual model of the organization and functioning of the agro-industrial complex management system as a mega-cluster formation has been constructed, which includes four main blocks: organizational, economic, legal and institutional, which contain their inherent instruments and levers of regulation. Based on the above, the definition of the management model of the agro-industrial complex as a mega-cluster organization has been formulated. In development, an appropriate definition of the organizational and economic model of corporate governance of the agro-industrial complex as a mega-cluster is given. A set of factors that affect the management system in the agro-industrial complex has been established, and their brief interpretation is given. It has been established that in the modern practice of the agro-industrial complex, several main groups of models can be distinguished, typical for all levels of management: A. Incomplete – not all levels of management are covered; B. Traditional – all functions and organizational structures can be present in the management system; C. Market models – correspond to the specifics of management in market conditions; D. Innovative – based on combining the best aspects of all known models. On this basis, it was revealed that at present, the solution of most of the problems of the agro-industrial complex is possible, first of all, through the development of an end-to-end system of corporate management of agro-industrial production as a megacluster infrastructure.

Abstract:
Purpose – This paper aims to discuss an integrated paradigm that aligns the measures of knowledge management (KM) performance to attain corporate goals in organisations. It presents the main findings of an exploratory study on the use of the paradigm and the accompanied self-assessment scheme in industrial enterprises in Trinidad and Tobago (T&T). Design/methodology/approach – An integrated knowledge management (IKM) model was derived, incorporating the guiding principles of the Total Quality Management/Business Excellence Models. A host of 20 elements was advocated under 5 assessment criteria, namely, Senior management leadership, KM processes, people development, continuous improvement and results orientation. A four-level self-assessment scheme was developed for facilitating users to determine the maturity status of IKM performance in organisations. An exploratory study was conducted with respondents of 18 companies in T&T. A results-oriented methodology with a self-assessment instrument (includes a set of questionnaire and facilitative tools) was used to acquire the industry practitioners’ views on the potential applicability of the IKM model. The study compared the current with the expected organisational performance and explored the relevance of integrating KM and PM practices in these participating organisations. Findings – The findings provided some useful data sources and managerial insights in integrating KM/PM initiatives with reference to groups of large enterprises vs small- and medium-sized companies in T&T. Empirical evidence showed that the self-assessment analysis could help participating organisations utilise their resources and keep up with improvement progress. The objectives, emphasis and administrative context of the KM/PM integration could be changed with varying resources, constraints and maturity status of organisations. Research limitations/implications – Future research could validate the self-assessment paradigm of KM performance in enterprises across various industry sectors, with the emphasis on human–technology–organisation interactions. Originality/value – It is anticipated that adapting the IKM model and using it for regular self-assessments could help industrial enterprises to enhance their KM and PM capabilities for attaining improvement goals. The results could facilitate information sharing of best practices and create conditions conducive to continuous performance improvement.
