Full textFrom august 1944 and the Liberation of the Somme department, a limited group of individuals is arrested and pointed as collaborators. This stage is the ultimate phase of careers started during the Occupation and also the first of their own labelling as unworthy. Our work's aim is to reconsider the paths those individuals followed during the Occupation. Whereas the historiography is considering this «becoming» though motivations, ideological, moral or social provisions and consent or pressure, we will ask how and not why they became unworthy people. Using the sociological concept of career and social science’s traditional tools, we wonder how they entered their career and participated in activities recruiting people according to specific social profiles. Then we will describe how some of them left the collaboration whereas others already labelled as collaborators became isolated and ever more dependent from their activities. These dependents' activities described as the more radicals by the instruction files and the historiography are considered as the product of a state of mind that it’s necessary to enlighten by reconsidering the context of their activities

Full textAfter reading Meu querido canibal (My dear Cannibal) by Antonio Torres, this dissertation searches to map the colonial imaginary in the contemporary era by re-revisiting the history with a postcolonial view. The crystallization is broken by the metafictional paradox in order to allow the fitting of one more piece of the mosaic that forms the Brazilian cultural nation/ identity. The myth of nation, as founder of a community, generated a large number of possible and varied researches and inventions. Torres uses myths and shows the narrative of a colorless nation, to recognize in its identity the hybrid generated not only by the process of acculturation, but something more specific related to the process of transculturation. Several people from different territories settled down to the same area, creating a history of cultural diversity. Literature is responsible for recovering past/present, inside/outside in acts of anthropophagy to express the national culture. The mapping of the colonial imaginary enlarges a universe inside the singularities that do not permit boundaries, because they are made by man who resists on recognizing himself in another one. Meu querido canibal represents this conflict in recognizing the other: the Brazilian Indian tribes used to live in war; however, the fight against the invaders joined the Indians of the tribes by to the Great Indian Chef Cunhambebe, in Confedera??o dos Tamoios (Tamoio Confederation). The Tamoio tribe lost its area; they were away from it, trying to reconquer its land. Facing the European settlers, who didn t consider an uncivilized Indian culture with lack of organization, was a tough task. A different way of looking allows an understanding of the hybridism in the formation of a collective and plural identity. Hybridism in all senses: race, language, culture In this sense the subordinate space appears: the interstice , the nowhere. A space formed by the undeniable process of transculturation, that formed the builder Brazilian people creator that has also created the image of the fissures of diversity, located in a space that does not recognize the borders that feature a past load of denial, superiority, and exploration. The contemporary anthropophagy is reanalyzed by Torres through the fiction, repeating from another place and with another view, the history of the cultural dominance.
Asara, Viviana. "Democracy without growth: The political ecology of the Indignados movement." Doctoral thesis, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/305110.
Full textThis thesis is an in-depth longitudinal study of the Indignados’ movement in Barcelona, from the inception of its encampments in Plaza Catalunya, to its numerous commissions, neighborhood assemblies and the emergence of territorial projects. Over the course of three years, 74 in-depth interviews and 6 focus groups were held with movement participants, whilst approximately 600 hours of participant observation were conducted. The thesis investigates the political ecology of the Indignados’ movement. Namely it aims to understand the ways in which the movement made sense of the ecological-economic crisis, and the new ideas and concrete socio-political processes and socio-ecological transformations it set in motion. Political ecology is here understood in a broad sense, as the new socio-natural worlds and relations the movement engendered, both cognitively and materially, as it imagined and enacted an alternative socio-ecological order. If a socio-ecological transformation is to take place, it will be the result of democratic political processes in which social movements play a paramount role. Social movements are a lever of social change, as they contribute to cultural innovation and initiate institutional transformation. Hence this thesis looks at the possibility for social-ecological transformation through the lens of the Indignados’ movement. Particularly it addresses the theory of degrowth, which can be described as a vision of a democratically led redistributive downscaling of production and consumption in industrialized countries. This research advances the theory of degrowth by connecting it with political theories on democracy, and by learning from an empirical case study, the Indignados’ movement, centered upon the claim for a ‘real democracy’. The first chapter introduces a combined theoretical framework that includes theories of degrowth, democracy, political ecology and social movement studies, setting out the methodological frame and research questions. The second chapter is focused on a critical review of theory within the degrowth literature, shedding light on concepts such as democracy, autonomy, revolution and transition, drawing in particular on the philosophy of Cornelius Castoriadis, which the degrowth movement considers a key theoretical reference point. The second part of the thesis uses the Indignados’ movement’s radical imagination to explore and understand how democracy can be thought and practiced without growth, and how a social-ecological transformation towards degrowth can be envisaged. The third chapter uses the tool of framing analysis to understand how the movement frames its conception of the crisis and democracy, and how it envisages change. This chapter also sheds light on the role of ideology within the movement and its distinctiveness from frames and on the ecological dimension of the movement, hence addressing the post-materialism thesis of New Social Movement theory. The fourth chapter investigates the micro-alternatives that have sprung out of the movement since the decentralization of the movement. It focuses on four specific case studies that evolved after the Square, bringing them into a dialogical relationship with the case study of the Square itself. In doing so, the chapter builds on the theory of prefigurative politics to analyse how the construction of alternatives can be explained, and how and why are they linked to space production, delving into the question of what is being prefigured by the indignant spatialised practices. Finally, the final chapter discusses the thesis results and concludes with their significance and contribution to a conceptualization of democracy and social-ecological change apt for degrowth and future research questions.
Schwartz, Suzana. Pontif?cia Universidade Cat?lica do Rio Grande do Sul, 2007. http://tede2.pucrs.br/tede2/handle/tede/3833.
Full textThis research takes two 15M Movement collectives located in the area of Poble Sec, in Barcelona, as case studies: the Occupy Poble Sec Cinema Forum and the Fiction Workshop. The aesthetic and pedagogical practice of both groups is based on audiovisual screenings through a fluid mobile apparatus, the production of spaces and a logic of care. In this sense, the ethnography of their activities looks to understand a mode of existence in common by clarifying the more-than- human assemblage of entities on which it relies and the socio-material politics that shapes it. Also, a genealogy of alternative and/or pedagogical uses of the filmic screening runs through that anthropological account in order to point out proximities, differences and problematics with regard to the present of each case. This constant intertwining between the archive and the becoming of the screening is also organized around three issues: the assembly atmosphere and ways of doing, the work of fiction and the right to the city.

Full textThe objective of this study is to know the democratic quality of citizen participation practices implemented in the field of spatial planning, using as a point of reference the practices and demands of participation deployed in the social movement 15M. In a context of crisis such as that experienced recently in Spain, it is valued as more urgent than ever to move towards the integration of a true participation of citizens under the premise that adequate participation practices effectively improve the results of public policies. In order to arrive at the results of the present study, a multimethod approach has been carried out that includes: analysis of quantitative content of written press, analysis of qualitative thematic content of interviews of the documentary "conversaciones15M.cc" and evaluation of participation criteria of the seven plans partials produced in Catalonia between 2005 and 2010. As a result, we have reached two participation profiles that in terms of democratic quality are almost opposite, either that of the 15M social movement and that of the PTPs of Catalonia, thus verifying that the democratic quality of citizen participation in spatial planning remains a pending task, from which point an unfinished discussion begins on the importance of governance in this area.
