Abstract:
Kartongbruket AB has a supplier of bale pulp which is transitioning to an RFID marking of its bales. Due to this, new perspectives are requested on an RFID implementation regarding the handling of bales. This study focuses on the inbound logistics process and the pulp bale handling process. Furthermore, traceability-related problems are noted due to the fact that the current scanning methodology does not work with sufficient precision. The coexistence between the current barcode reading system and the RFID reading system is also something that is identified as topic which needs to be studied. This study’s choice of the process industry and the cardboard industry is based on a theoretical gap regarding the above-mentioned concepts and problems in this specific industry. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to be helpful to Kartongbruket AB in their upcoming RFID implementation, and to fill the identified theoretical gaps. Method: This is a case study at Kartongbruket AB. Empirics have been collected through semi-structured interviews with relevant internal actors, where the respondents have been identified using a snowball selection method. The study is of a qualitative nature and the theoretical frame of reference has been created through a literature study. Conclusion: This study concludes that RFID can be used in the inbound logistics process to make stock balances more reliable in several potential ways. In addition to this, it can be concluded that an RFID-based system can lead to a centralized traceability system in the pulpbale handling process where internal actors can gain a greater knowledge base in customer complaints cases. The study's presented implementation model may be used as a support for the upcoming RFID implementation. The study also establishes that the merging model is the most suitable coexistence model for Kartongbruket AB when RFID and barcodes are to be run together in the pulp bale handling process.

Fourie, Quinton. "The influence of inbound and outbound logistics on the competitiveness of the South African automobile industry." Thesis, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10948/d1020217.

Full text
Abstract:
The South African automotive industry has been identified as an important influence on the economy of South Africa. In particular, it plays a role in job creation in a country with high unemployment rates. However, being linked to a global industry, its competitive position and future relevance have come into question on numerous occasions. After a period of isolation and protection, the local industry had to enter global competition. The competitive playing field had suddenly widened from companies competing locally amongst each other for local market share, to competing globally for international sales. In addition it was found that competition was not only limited to opposing brands but also existed within the subsidiaries of the same brand. The reason for this was the existence of overcapacity in the manufacturing facilities internationally. Coupled with this, most of the dominant vehicle manufacturers were creating more capacity in developing markets to support demand as well as to benefit from cheaper resources. There are of course many influencing factors on the competitive position of such an important industry. The value chain has been identified as a tool to analyse and compare the activities within rival businesses or industry role players. Two primary activities within the value chain are inbound logistics and outbound logistics. The objective of the research was to investigate the influence of inbound and outbound logistics on the competitiveness of the South African automotive industry. A literature review created the conceptual framework for the research. It was necessary to discuss the automotive industry in a global sense to understand the history and trends of the development within the industry. It was also necessary to understand the South African automotive industry within this context to identify its place and relevance in global terms. It was found that, although important to the local economy, the local industry was not a dominant force to be reckoned with and was in fact being over taken by many of its competitors. Part of this investigation was spent on the development of the local industry in a protected environment and what it meant for the growth of local content and exports. This was also important as the component manufacturers based in South Africa need critical mass to create an efficient platform to be globally competitive. It was found that historic development programmes did not do much to improve this aspect but there is optimism about the latest programme which promotes an increase in production volumes. The state of logistics in South Africa was critically analysed to understand the influence it has on the automotive industry. It was found that although the logistics infrastructure within South Africa is the best in Africa, it is behind the standards of its competitors. This is influencing the automotive industry as a result of inadequate rail infrastructure. The reason for this was that most of the freight which was being transported by road would be more efficiently transported by rail. The cost of logistics was also found to be high in South Africa and skills were also a concern to improve the current situation. A research questionnaire was created from the findings of the literature review. The questionnaire formed the primary research tool for this study. The sample was identified as respondents from vehicle assemblers and component manufacturers who would have sufficient knowledge of this topic. It was found that inbound and outbound logistics costs formed a relatively large component of total costs. The high levels of imported parts being used as well as export levels added to the logistics costs. This also caused uneconomical inventory levels as stock needed to be kept for longer periods before being replenished. The respondents were also aware of the fact that rail would improve the situation if the infrastructure was sufficient. The respondents seemed to be of the opinion that the skills of the employees responsible for logistics were not a major influencing factor and that logistics service providers were in addition, not creating an overwhelming cost improvement. The incentive programmes were also not seen to be doing much to address the influence of logistics on the automotive industry.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of the research is to explore how to reduce waste in value flows and to minimize the bullwhip effect within operations. To fulfill and answer the purpose of the research three questions of issue has been established: 1. What issues in value flows can be identified, regarding inbound and outbound flows? 2. How can issues in value flows be minimized, with regards to inbound and outbound flows? 3. How can a model be created to understand the relationship between value flow improvements and the bullwhip effect? Method – To retrieve understanding of the topic that thesis involves, support of literature studies, observations and data collection was used. The literature study created a foundation of theoretical framework. The data collected from the case company formed a base that partly facilitates the purpose of this thesis. The theoretical framework and data collection were thoroughly analyzed and discussed in order to propose solutions for improvements. Findings – The research establishes different issues that can be identified in outbound and inbound flows such as; waste in transportation, waste in inventory, waste in movement and waste in overproduction. Further, in order to minimize the identified issues in inbound and outbound flows it is imperative to find out the root cause for the issues. When the root cause was established, statistical approach was utilized to further explain the issue. The findings from the statistical approach elucidated a large variance between supply and demand, resulting in a bullwhip effect. In order to minimize the bullwhip effect, improvements should focus on insufficiencies such as; lack of communication, order batching and disorganization. In addition, standardization through 5s approach mitigates the waste in transportation and movement. To understand the relationship between value flow improvements and the bullwhip effect, a causal loop diagram was created to understand the phenomenon from a system perspective. Implications – The research contributes with solutions on how to identify the bullwhip effect as well as highlighting the issues in value flows. Furthermore, this research solidifies the importance of using lean process to improve overall productivity in value flows. Limitations – The research was limited to one case company and one area in the case company. The answers that are presented in this research could increase the reliability and credibility if the authors had been able to investigate several areas at the case company or several companies. Furthermore, the date that has been retrieved is based solely on one supplier at the case company. Keywords – ‘Lean Process’, ‘Bullwhip Effect’, ‘Supply Chain Management’, ‘Continuous Improvement’, ‘System Perspective’ and ‘Statistical Analysis’.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of the study is to Explore how the lean philosophy can affect the value flow of a manufacturing company’s goods receiving. To answer the purpose two research questions has been asked:1. Which lean tools or methods could be applied on a manufacturing company’s goods receiving?2. How can lean-orientated goods receiving lead to improved value flow?Method – To achieve the purpose a literature review and a case study has been conducted. The case study has had a deductive approach and used the both quantitative and qualitative data. The authors chose the data collection methods interviews, observations and document studies to collect empirical data which have then been analyzed against the theoretical framework with pattern matching to reach a result.Findings – The study has showed that Lean philosophy affects the value stream performance in various ways depending on which tools or approaches the managers have. The authors explored different Lean tools and methods both separately and combined and noticed that to gain as much as possible from Lean tools and methods are most effective when combined to an approach. Although some Lean tools in goods receiving affect the value flow in a positive matter some would probably not. Due to the uneven flow of incoming shipments JIT was not seen appropriate to implement unless shipments could be assured to arrive as planned, when needed and with correct amount of goods. Conclusions & recommendations – By the study findings the authors were able to base two conclusions:1. To take full advantage of Lean tools and methods in goods receiving, these are best to be bundled together to an approach that is in accordance with the Lean philosophy at the organization.2. Good and competent leadership in the Lean philosophy is crucial to ensure continuous improvements in the organization.3. A Lean philosophy adapted in goods receiving is likely to ensure stability and reliability across the value stream which makes improvements possible and might lead to improved value stream performance.Based on these conclusions the authors recommend that when implementing or working with Lean managers should practice participatory leadership to ensure the commitment of workers, to lead by example and to get the correct current state view. It is also recommended that when implementing Lean tools in to the goods receiving process the holistic view is of high importance.

Abstract:
Handling product returns has become a critical activity for organizations as the volume of gods flowing back through the supply chain rapidly increases. Few research studies have published specific empirical data concerning the reverse logistics practices of companies. Information technology and information support has long been recognized as a competitive weapon – capable of enhancing company performance and achieving efficient reverse logistics. Reverse logistics is very unlike the forward, as it is more reactive and also has less visibility. Unlike forward logistics, incoming products from reverse logistics are not tracked broadly because of the lack of information systems resources necessary. The investigated apparel company in this study is operating on the global market and expands their sales twenty per cent each year, resulting in increased pressure in the return flow. To meet this future demands, the return process has to be more efficient and not so time consuming. This study emerged from a case study made at the return department of this apparel company based on a research question. An improvement area was discovered through interviews, internal documents and observations. This area was investigated in existing theories through books and scientific research papers. From the theories and the case study, a hypothesis was created in order to be tested. To strengthen the hypothesis, an experiment was developed and performed at selected retailers and at the apparel company.Research Question Where in the product return process can improvements be made in order to make the information flow more efficient between retailers and an apparel company?HypothesisBy creating a web-based return form, the information flow between retailers and an apparel company will be more efficient, resulting in a more effective and structured product return process.Through the experiment, various factors that strengthen the hypothesis were discovered. For instance, the information flow becomes more effective when retailers have clear guidelines how to send back products and when inserting the information into the computer system before returning. As the apparel company knows what is coming back, the disposition of returned products can be predetermined which will speed up the return process. Shared and available information across various parties facilitate the daily work with better communication. Furthermore, activities that are existing today within the return process can be eliminated which result in more effective product return process. Refund for retailers can be made quicker which result in more satisfied retailers and creates stronger relationships.

Marby, Johanna. "Vendor rating strategies to mitigate the effects of cereal supply variations : A case study at a manufacturing company in the food industry."

Abstract:
Raw material of high quality and in sufficient quantities is of great importance to manufacturing companies. However, the availability of such raw material is often uncertain. One such important raw material is cereals because the consumption of food products containing cereals is very common. The company in this case study is a manufacturing company in the food industry that purchases cereals from external suppliers. The suppliers are required to deliver cereals that meet posed quality standards and also to deliver cereals in sufficient quantities at the right time in order not to affect the product quality during the manufacturing phase and in order not to cause unnecessary production delays. However, under the current purchasing strategy, the company encounters difficulties in meeting production demand due to shortages of the supplied cereals. Therefore, it is of interest to investigate and map the reasons for such shortcoming of the current purchasing strategy. Furthermore, since suppliers are essential for the success of an organisation, the need to develop and apply a serious vendor rating strategy, particularly with respect to the ability to deliver cereals of the right quality and quantity, has arisen. The objectives of the master thesis are to investigate why the cereal supplies do not meet the production demand under the current purchasing strategies and also to achieve mitigation of the effects that cereal supply variations have on the production process. Thus, to meet these objectives, the following two research questions are examined in this master thesis: “Why do not the cereal supplies meet production demand under the current purchasing strategies?” “Which vendor rating strategies can companies use to mitigate the effects of cereal supply variations?” The master thesis is delimited to the cereals buckwheat flour, corn flour, rice flour, sorghum flour and teff flour. Furthermore, the master thesis includes the stage vendor rating and follow up in the purchasing process of cereals. A literature review, an examination of historical data, interviews, and a focus group with employees included in the purchasing process of cereal are conducted. The purchasing process of cereals at the case study company includes the stages specification, supplier selection, contract agreement, ordering, delivery expediting, arrival control, monitoring of best before date, vendor rating, and follow up. The found reasons why the cereal supplies could not meet production demand under the current purchasing strategies are: Variations in supply and demand. The production demand fluctuates and can therefore be difficult to meet depending on the available cereal supplies.  The available choice of suppliers. The case study company face difficulties in finding suppliers that can meet the requirements.  Supplier problems. The supplier problems include late deliveries, and also that received orders do not meet the specification. The flow of information. The suppliers do not inform the company about problems with orders, making it more difficult for the company to prevent supply disruptions. The accuracy of the forecasts sent to the suppliers is low, making it difficult for the suppliers to prepare sufficient quantities of cereals.  Transportation issues. The transportation companies deliver orders too late, which cause production delays.  The vendor rating strategies that companies can use to mitigate the effects of cereal supply variations are based on a three-stage model for vendor rating, including the design, implementation and use of the vendor rating system. Companies need to adjust the vendor rating system to suit their specific business. The recommendations to the case study company consist of the additional activities that the case study company should conduct in order to follow the three-stage model for vendor rating.

Abstract:
Recently, a new era of “connected commerce” is emerging, where the ability of offering effective and fluid logistics services among the different channels will be a key feature of distribution networks. In the context of omnichannel, we focus on the dynamic links between logistics model adopted by a distribution company and its business model. We make the hypothesis that the adopted logistics model can lead to changes in the business model: P1: the business model impacts the logistics model. P2: the logistics model impacts the business model. P3: the evolution of the business model impacts the evolution of the logistics model. P4: the evolution of the logistics model impacts the evolution of the business model. P5: The innovation of the logistics model impacts the innovation of the business model. To answer the research questions, we conducted a dynamic empirical research (four case studies in the ready-to-wear industry). Semi-structured interview with leaders, and logistics managers were conducted, followed by an intra-case and cross-case analyzes.Implications: At the theoretical level, we define precisely the components of the business model and the logistics model and demonstrate an association between four logistics processes and the value proposition to customers. We show how evolution and innovation of logistics can provide distinctive skills and know-how that can help create new value propositions to customers and improve the company’s business model. At the managerial level, our study offers insights to retailers certain ways to model their activities and to position the logistics services at the center of their future business model

Abstract:
Title: Implementation of RFID in third-party logistics (TPL) - A case study of RFID in warehousing operations in TPL with a focus on implementation and cost calculations in the inbound and outbound process at PostNord TPL  Course: 4FE19E Degree Project in Supply Chain Management for the Master of Business Administration Program, 30 hp. Authors: Jacob Holm & Amer Basic Examiner: Helena Forslund Tutor: Hana Hulthén  Background: PostNord TPL in Ljungby is one of the actors that has developed an interest in RFID, and it all started with a request for RFID technology from their largest customer (Customer X). Customer X requests an RFID tag at the item level, among other things, to take advantage of such technology during stock inventory. In order for PostNord TPL:s largest customer to be able to take the step towards implementing an RFID solution in the stores, it is required that the warehouse in Ljungby implements the technology first. PostNord TPL:s idea, according to the customer's desire to offer them this service, is that all RFID labeling of Customer X items takes place at the warehouse in Ljungby. This study is unique in its kind, partly because there is a large research gap in the existing research theory using RFID technology within TPL, but also because the study focuses on RFID labeling at article level.  Purpose: The purpose of the study is to propose guidelines for an implementation of RFID within TPL in the inbound and outbound process. The guidelines contain a categorization of relevant variables for RFID implementation as well as the implementation process and cost calculation.  Methodology: This study is a case study at the company PostNord TPL in Ljungby. The researchers have applied a pattern comparison where the theory and empiricism have been compared. The empirics have been collected through goal-directed selection and snowball selection, where semi-structured and unstructured interviews with a number of different actors have been conducted. The study is based on a qualitative research method with a deductive approach.  Conclusion: The study has analyzed three research questions, where the first is more general within TPL and the other two focus on PostNord TPL conditions. The study has produced suggestions on which variables are relevant when implementing RFID within warehousing operations in TPL and how they can be categorized. Furthermore, the study has developed in which inventory management process RFID can be implemented at PostNord TPL and what such an implementation process can look like. Finally, three different cost calculations have also been produced for an RFID implementation in the inbound and outbound process at PostNord TPL.

Enormous production cost pressure is weighing on the entire automotive industry. Suppliers are feeling most of this pressure. In the highly competitive supplier market, companies achieving sustainable success, will be those that are focused on continuous improvement and selecting the correct Supply Chain Management strategies on the pursuit of competiveness. The purpose of this study, which is framed within the objective of obtaining the academic master degree, is to analyze and identify the impacts in logistics performance using a strategy of vertical integration instead of outsourcing a manufacturing operation. Based on case study of Continental Teves Portugal, the influence of using a different strategic choice for plating process would bring changes to actual supply chain procedures and needed resources. To conduct this investigation both qualitative and quantitative approaches were chosen using lean management principles and tools. The operational constrains identified on the present outsourcing strategy concerned production planning, flow balance, high inventories, supplier dependence, transport costs, quality-caused interruptions and complex reverse logistics. Typical waste of resources and process inefficiencies were on scope. All findings will be mainly relevant for this particular company used as case study. The proposal for an internal galvanic line, to enable plating process and correlated impacts on logistics optimization, will only be valid for mentioned assumptions. Company management might be able to use this document in order to design and operate an alternative solution to actual outsourcing supplier considering study conclusions.

Abstract:
The object of this project is to generate a proposal to improve the inbound logistics process under the best practices of the SCOR model for a technology consultancy in Lima in order to optimize the development of strategic information generated by this process. As part of this proposal, a Data Mart will be developed to expedite the collection of this data. Inbound logistics is made up of purchasing and inventory management. Abstract:
Title: How an external collection actor enables Lindex’s closed loop supply chain. Context: Customers demand of sustainable products has motivated companies to develop more sustainable business models. The implementation of closed loop supply chain is an effort to keep the value of resources for as long as possible, by reusing and recycling consumer waste. This study identifies what a reverse logistics flow of textile material looks like in a closed loop supply chain, and how companies can gain economies of scale in their reverse logistics. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to investigate how a collection actor handles collected textiles and thereby contributes to the enabling of Lindex’s closed loop supply chain. The identification of the process provides an example of how other organizations can approach the circular economy. The study will also explore various alternatives to achieve economies of scale in the reverse logistics. Questions at issue: 1. “How does an external collection actor, Myrorna, manage Lindex´s reverse logistics of textiles in a closed loop supply chain?” 2. “With what strategies can the external collection actor, Myrorna, achieve economies of scale?” Method: The study practices a qualitative hermeneutic orientation, with an inductive reasoning. It is a one case study where the empirical information was collected by qualitative semi-structured interviews. The sampling technique used to provide the data was purposive sampling. Process mapping through process flow chart was used to analyze the empirical information. The study reaches a certain amount of validity through the use of triangulation of facts. Other ways used to ensure the quality of the study was for example that the respondent reviewed the results to authenticate it. An aspect of criticism is that the study is a one case study and therefor has a lower grade of transferability. The authors have also taken research ethics into consideration. Results: The external collection actor, Myrorna, enables Lindex closed loop supply chain through the physical handling of the collected textiles. According to the head of collection at Myrorna (2020-05-12) the reverse logistics is currently well managed. The study finds supporting evidence for the case, however alternative means of achieving economies of scale are proposed. One proposition is to outsource the domestic transportation through a third party logistics company. Another is to include pickup of goods at Lindex stores to Myrornas iv current pickup routes or to use a third party logistics company. Myrorna already handles a lot of textiles in their sorting operation, and the authors therefore suggests that they will keep insourcing this part of the reverse logistics. As a final suggestion Myrorna should continue outsourcing the export of leftover textiles in order to achieve economies of scale. Abstract:
Background: One of the biggest threat of our time is the environmental impact caused by humans, for example thru emissions of greenhouse gases. The manufacturing industry, of which the automotive industry is a part, stands for a big part of these emissions, and today companies have to face big challenges regarding measuring and reducing of their carbon footprint. To work in a successful way with the environmental impact of a manufacturing industry, process mapping and identification of environmental parameters need to be done. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to do a situation analysis by identify what parameters in a logistic flew between the activities unloading goods and assembly at Scania Oskarshamn. Furthermore, the report supposed to create and develop a model for calculation of the environmental impact of a logistic flew based on environmental parameters. Methodology: This report is a case study that have been performed at the Scania site in Oskarshamn. The report aim to create and develop a calculation model for calculation of the environmental impact of a logistic flew. Empirical material has been collected thru both interviews and by searching in Scania ́s own database. In order to create the model, a situation analysis was made by performing a process map and then environmental parameters was identified. Employers at Scania tested the calculation model, which is the result of this study, in order to secure the function of the model. Conclusions: A specific flew of goods between the activities unloading goods and assembly was identified and several environmental parameters was detected and grouped in the three categories; energy use, resource consumptions and waste. Calculations are performed in CO2 equivalents according to the global warming potential named by UN in the Kyoto protocol. This in order to enable comparisons between the different environmental parameters. The model is performed as an Excel model because this is the program that the company use for this types of calculations, and according to the author Excel is a program suitable for the kind of model making performed in this study.

The global business environment is constantly changing. A long lasting successful company must constantly reengineer corporation’s operating process and also redesign and implement new strategies to enhance its competitive advantages. The supply chain reengineering is one of key strategies to strengthen the companies’ competitive advantages. It integrates the chain partners and simultaneously redesigns the overall chain operating process. It is an extension to a single corporation’s reengineering. Thus, in this research, we use the activity-based costing method to study the impacts of supply chain reengineering. We investigate the effectively and efficiently of three supply chain reengineering strategies. They are the modularization in product design, assembly process redesign and suppliers’ in-site inventory management. We used various products, such as dashboard, of one of world leading automobile parts providers, Tong-Yang Ltd. as our study case. The research concludes that the in-site inventory management outperforms the modularization and assembly process redesign. Furthermore, it enhances the manufacturing flexibility, if integrates with the just-in-time materials in-flow.

Abstract Logistics centers have become an effective means of managing the commercial activities of enterprises efficiently. Integrated services adopted include those related to customer service, the logistics center, information systems, the logistics organization, strategic planning and overall integrated operations. The number of logistics companies of outsourcing has expanded rapidly, positively impacting the quality of services and efficiency as well as complying with consumer demand. The demand for outsourcing professional logistics services in the hi-tech sector has significantly increased. This study presents an ANP theory for the hi-tech industry to objectively assess the quality of a logistics technology firms when outsourcing their logistics needs, as an alternative to previous decision-making approaches based on subjective evaluations. An appraisal criterion for selecting an appropriate logistics company is made using Delphi technique to gain mutual recognition among experts in the field. Additionally, using the Delphi method, preferences of the group members can be elicited and a group consensus is achieved. ANP theory is applied to calculate and rank the best efficiency in the logistics company of tax exemption model. The proposed an ANP model can provide administrators with an objective decision-making approach and evaluation criteria, as well as an effective means of selecting the most appropriate logistics company of tax exemption for outsourcing in Taiwan’s hi-tech industry. Abstract:
The manufacturing sector is facing an important stage with Industry 4.0. This paradigm shift impulses companies to embrace innovative technologies and to pursuit near-zero fault, near real-time reactivity, better traceability, and more predictability, while working to achieve cheaper product customization. The scenario presented addresses multiple intra-logistic processes of the automotive factory Volkswagen Autoeuropa, where different situations need to be addressed. The main obstacle is the absence of harmonized and integrated data flows between all stages of the intra-logistic process which leads to inefficiencies. The existence of data silos is heavily contributing to this situation, which makes the planning of intra-logistics processes a challenge. The objective of the work presented here, is to integrate big data and machine learning technologies over data generated by the several manufacturing systems present, and thus support the management and optimisation of warehouse, parts transportation, sequencing and point-of-fit areas. This will support the creation of a digital twin of the intra-logistics processes. Still, the end goal is to employ deep learning techniques to achieve predictive capabilities, all together with simulation, in order to optimize processes planning and equipment efficiency. The work presented on this thesis, is aligned with the European project BOOST 4.0, with the objective to drive big data technologies in manufacturing domain, focusing on the automotive use-case.

Taiwan’s manufacturing capability is always the most internationally competitive. However, in recent years, because of the high labor and land costs in Taiwan, Taiwanese enterprises have been forced to move overseas such as Southeast Asia. When the Taiwanese enterprises invest in Southeast Asia, how to select an appropriate logistics service provider becomes a very important issue. Combining the Delphi method and analytical network process (ANP), a decision-making method was developed in this research to help the electronic companies that need to evaluate and select the logistics service provider type. Results of this research showed the best logistics service type for electronic companies is the international logistics service provider type. In conclusion, this research proposed not only a solution for solving the interdependent logistics service provider selection problem, but also a useful reference in logistics service provider selection for electronic companies which plan to invest in Southeast Asia.

Due to the expansion of business scale, it is more difficult to track events throughout the supply chain than in the past. In addition, the lack of transparency in the supply chain has plagued both the supply and the consumer, and buyers and customers cannot determine the true value of the product or service. The blockchain has the characteristics of openness, high security, and can be a good solution to solve the supply chain problem. The main purpose of this research is to find out the key success factors of blockchain application in the supply chain and logistics industry. Through the results of expert questionnaires, the ranking and analysis of the advantages of the factors are provided, and the logistics related companies who want to introduce the blockchain are used as reference basis to understand the plan. Investing, importing, and focusing on which parts, not only can reduce more costs for manufacturers, but also provide users with comprehensive services. This study integrates domestic and international blockchains into relevant research literature and industry reports in the supply chain. After analysis, it lists the “cost”, “efficiency”, “reliability”, “risk”, “flexibility” and “sustainability” that affect the performance dimension of the supply chain. Based on the six indicators and its revised fourteen evaluation factors. The study uses the Analytic Network Process to establish a hierarchical feedback structure of influencing factors, and to find out the key factors by ranking. Based on the top two important elements, a case study of a representative supply chain of a traditional industry is conducted. This will serve as an important basis for the industry to assess whether to introduce the blockchain in the supply chain management and logistics industry, and to analyze and discuss the case companies based on the research results.

Network industry in Taiwan is in rapid growing stage due to the generalization of notebooks and wireless facilities. With the needs of the market and entering of competitors, network industry has formed fierce price wars. In order to stand out in the market, enterprises are required to make better use of logistic management. The ideal method for the industry to establish a highly efficient logistic management is to construct a suitable performance measurement (Kaplan, 1999;Beamon, 1996). This study organizes relevant literatures and analyzes network industry with regards to performance indicator assessment methods and key factors of logistic management. Moreover, apply Kaplan and Norton’s balance scorecard theory to design an ideal performance indicator of logistic management and use Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process to work out four major dimensions based on the survey which focuses on network industry. Furthermore, select top five key performance indicators which affect the application of logistic management as the guidance for the vision and goal of enterprises and use performance indicator as reference. This study investigates not only on the key performance factors of logistic management in network industry, as well as in pursue for optimal solutions to re-engineer company performance through the selection and evaluation of correct key performance indicators and lead employees to work towards common goal. Study shows the four dimensions of network industry emphasizes on “Customer Perspective” as the top priority, “Financial Perspective” as the second priority, then goes on about “Process Perspective” and “Learning and Growth Perspective”. The priority of key performance indicators are “Customer Satisfaction Level” , “Product Return Rate”, “Existing Customer Turnover Rate (Customer Retentions Rate)” , “Market Share Fluctuation Rrate”, and “Order Processing Time Rate”. The result shows the most significant factor in logistic management of network industry is customer.

Abstract:
This study determined whether local manufacturers of light vehicles in South Africa employ supply chain best practices and strategies. The research design employed was a combination of exploratory and descriptive research design using qualitative and quantitative approaches based on a survey of light vehicle manufacturers in South Africa. A face-to–face, semi-structured interview questionnaire was used, based on purposive sampling. Descriptive statistics using SPSS software were used for the data analysis and interpretation. The findings of the study revealed that across the supply chain, best practices were implemented to a large extent by all manufacturers. Light vehicle manufacturers in South Africa, however face supply chain challenges, which include technological, infrastructural, cost, market/service and production/skills challenges. The most important supply chain performance indicator that contributes to optimisation of performance is quality, followed by final product delivery reliability, and then cost and supplier reliability. All the manufacturers followed a lean strategy for their inbound supply chain and some had a lean supply chain strategy for their outbound supply chain. A number of them also had an agile supply chain strategy in the outbound supply chain which suggests a leagile supply chain strategy. It was also found that in some instances there was a mismatch between strategies and practices in the area of product characteristics, manufacturing characteristics and the decision drivers of supply chain. One of the conclusions of the study was that local manufacturers of light vehicles do not always make decisions and implement practices in line with their chosen supply chain strategies. The study concluded by developing a framework for determining supply chain best practices in line with a chosen strategy that could guide supply chain managers (in locally manufactured light vehicles) in the automotive in South Africa in their decision making.
