Abstract:
Seesaw gate concept, which is based on a reversible DNA strand branch process, has been found to have the potential to be used in the construction of various computing devices. In this study, we consider constructing full adder and serial binary adder, using the new concept of seesaw gate. Our simulation of the full adder preformed properly as designed; however unexpected exception is noted in the simulation of the serial binary adder. To identify and address the exception, we propose a new method for debugging the molecular circuit. The main idea for this method is to add fan-outs to monitor the circuit in a reverse stepwise manner. These fan-outs are fluorescent signals that can obtain the real-time concentration of the target molecule. By analyzing the monitoring result, the exception can be identified and located. In this paper, examples of XOR and serial binary adder circuits are described to prove the practicability and validity of the molecular circuit debugging method.

Abstract:
Despite significant performance and power advantages compared to microprocessors, widespread usage of FPGAs has been limited by increased design complexity. High-level synthesis (HLS) tools have reduced design complexity but provide limited support for verification, debugging, and timing analysis. Such tools generally rely on inaccurate software simulation or lengthy register-transfer-level simulations, which are unattractive to software developers. In this paper, we introduce HLS techniques that allow application designers to efficiently synthesize commonly used ANSI-C assertions into FPGA circuits, enabling verification and debugging of circuits generated from HLS tools, while executing in the actual FPGA environment. To verify that HLS-generated circuits meet execution timing constraints, we extend the in-circuit assertion support for testing of elapsed time for arbitrary regions of code. Furthermore, we generalize timing assertions to transparently provide hang detection that back annotates hang occurrences to source code. The presented techniques enable software developers to rapidly verify, debug, and analyze timing for FPGA applications, while reducing frequency by less than 3% and increasing FPGA resource utilization by 0.7% or less for several application case studies on the Altera Stratix-II EP2S180 and Stratix-III EP3SE260 using Impulse-C. The presented techniques reduced area overhead by as much as 3x and improved assertion performance by as much as 100% compared to unoptimized in-circuit assertions.

Abstract:
An electromagnetic instrument transformer is a common device used to measure large current values in high-voltage electrical networks; it has been in use for more than a century. However, the optical current transformer, a promising technology also known as a fiber optic current sensor (FOCS), offers increased safety and ease of operation, as well as the absence of errors caused by the magnetic circuit of legacy transformers. Although the FOCS scheme is well known and has been actively developed for over a quarter century, it has certain disadvantages that limit its use. This paper describes the authors’ efforts to solve these problems in order to make FOCS technology competitive and widely adopted. We upgraded the FOCS optical circuit, expanded the frequency band of the captured current signal, and reduced the solution’s cost. We designed new signal processing algorithms to compensate for errors caused by internal factors in the measurement circuit, as well as those caused by environmental influences. We developed an FOCS computer model based on the Jones matrix formalism to enhance the experimental debugging. It allowed us to define the requirements for elements of the optical circuit and its production accuracy.

Abstract:
The two-part legacy board device under test (DUT) pad has been very useful for testing of microelectronic packages. However, <span lang="EN-US">this board has been subjected to many repair endorsements due to open connection of DUT pad and cut traces of the board components as recorded. Board re-spin is used to improve the performance of the test boards in microelectronic packages production. It improves the board development to create more functional printed circuit boards for testing and introduces the use of modern tools and software applied to the schematic creation up to the production board debugging. This paper presents a method of creating test boards for the development and manufacturing of microelectronic packages and integrated circuits. The two-part board is converted into a single board interface which eliminates the open DUT connections. A surface-mounted DUT pad is introduced to replace the old hypertact pins which are included in the re-spin board for a more robust performance. The schematic creation and board debugging were done to lessen problems caused by connection faults. In result, producing re-spin boards mitigates board endorsement which in return increases the manufacturing output performance. A faster and convenient setup was achieved when the old two-board setup was </span>eliminated.

Abstract:
The SF6 gas is popular used in high voltage switchgear because it has some advantages such as the electrical disruptive strength or the electric light arc quenching capability. This means that the functional safety of the entire system is strongly depend on the density of SF6 gas which is why it must be monitored. This paper presents a design of the on-line monitoring system of the density of SF6 gas of electronic transformer. The monitoring system, which base on Virtual Instrument, enhances both the flexibility of digital signal processing and the computing speed. On the other hand, the software exploitation, debugging and improving are easier, compared with the hardware circuit. The realization with virtual instrument is flexible and with low fabrication costs and shorten the period.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to address the design, implementation, performance and limitations of an environment that emulates a secure element for rapid prototyping and debugging. Today, it is difficult for developers to get access to a near field communication (NFC)-secure element in current smartphones. Moreover, the security constraints of smartcards make in-circuit emulation and debugging of applications impractical. Therefore, an environment that emulates a secure element brings significant advantages for developers. Design/methodology/approach – The authors' approach to such an environment is the emulation of Java Card applets on top of non-Java Card virtual machines (e.g. Android Dalvik VM), as this would facilitate the use of existing debugging tools. As the operation principle of the Java Card VM is based on persistent memory technology, the VM and applications running on top of it have a significantly different life cycle compared to other Java VMs. The authors evaluate these differences and their impact on Java VM-based Java Card emulation. They compare possible strategies to overcome the problems caused by these differences, propose a possible solution and create a prototypical implementation to verify the practical feasibility of such an emulation environment. Findings – While the authors found that the Java Card inbuilt persistent memory management is not available on other Java VMs, they present a strategy to model this persistence mechanism on other VMs to build a complete Java Card run-time environment on top of a non-Java Card VM. Their analysis of the performance degradation in a prototypical implementation caused by additional effort put into maintaining persistent application state revealed that the implementation of such an emulation environment is practically feasible. Originality/value – This paper addresses the problem of emulating a complete Java Card run-time environment on top of non-Java Card virtual machines which could open and significantly ease the development of NFC secure element applications.
