Abstract:
Abstract:
AbstractLaser ion acceleration (Wilks et al., 2001; Passoni et al., 2010) has become an interesting field of research in the past years. Several experiments, such as LIGHT (Schollmeier et al., 2008; Bagnoud et al., 2010; Busold et al., 2013; 2014a; 2014b) are performed worldwide. High intense, pulsed laser beams are used to generate and accelerate a plasma. For higher laser intensities (>1021 W cm−1), simulations (Esirkepov et al., 2004; Macchi et al., 2005; 2009; 2010; Robinson et al., 2008; Rykovanov et al., 2008; Henig et al., 2009; Schlegel et al., 2009; Shoucri et al., 2011; 2013; 2014; Kar et al., 2012; Korzhimanov et al., 2012; Shoucri, 2012) have revealed a new acceleration mechanism: The Radiation Pressure Acceleration. The entire foil target is accelerated by the radiation pressure of the laser pulse. Ideally, a sharp peak spectrum is generated, with energies up to GeV and nearly solid body density. This work faces on a detailed analysis of the acceleration mechanism in order to develop the optimum laser- and target parameters for the process. The analysis is supported by one-dimensional PIC simulations, using the commercial code VSim© Tech-X (2015).

Abstract:
The genus Aspidistra Ker Gawler (1822: 628) contains more than 160 species in tropical and subtropical SE-Asia, with the centre of species diversity in southern China and adjacent northern Vietnam (Tillich 2005, 2014, Tillich & Averyanov 2012, Vislobokov et al. 2013). In Vietnam, the genus has more than 50 species with many locally endemic taxa, and about 2/3 of them were discovered from limestone areas in north Vietnam, while ca. 1/3 of species were recently described from sandstone forests in the southern part of the country (Gagnepain 1934, Bogner & Arnautov 2004, Bräuchler & Ngoc 2005, Tillich 2005, 2006, 2008, Tillich et al. 2007, Tillich & Averyanov 2008, 2012, Tillich & Leong-Škorničková 2013, Averyanov & Tillich 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016a, 2016b, Leong-Škorničková et al. 2014, Colin 2015, Averyanov et al. 2016, Vislobokov 2015, Vislobokov et al. 2013, 2014a, 2014b, 2016a, 2016b, Lý & Tillich 2016, 2017).

Abstract:
During our fieldwork in the southwest Guangxi, China in January 2014, we found in the White-headed Langur National Nature Reserve an unusual Aspidistra Ker-Gawler (1822: 628) specimen with fruits and dried up flowers only, so we could not identify it without fresh flowers. In November, we returned to the place for further observations of the species, and found the plants with blackish purple, bell-shaped flowers. After consulting herbarium specimens and relevant literature on Aspidistra (Liang & Tamura 2000, Li 2004, Li & Wei 2003, Tillich 2005, 2008, Lin et al. 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, Lin & Liu 2011, Liu et al. 2011, Tillich & Leong-Skornickova 2013, Hu et al. 2014, Meng et al. 2014, Vislobokov et al. 2014), it became apparent that this population is an undescribed species, and the valid name Aspidistra chongzuoensis was used, which is described below.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Sverigedemokraterna gestaltades negativt i samtliga slutdebatter.

Monyela, Bellinda Mashoene. "A two-year long drought in summer 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 over South Africa." Master's thesis, University of Cape Town, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/27111.

Full text
Abstract:
Droughts occurred over South Africa during the summer seasons of 2014/2015 and 2015/2016. At the same time, the Pacific Ocean was warmer than normal starting in 2014 and leading to the very strong 2015/2016 El Niño. The first objective of this study is to document the ocean and climate conditions that occurred during the summer seasons 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 in southern Africa. NCEP Reanalysis data is used to compute the monthly and seasonal scale composite mean and anomalies of large-scale circulations during the summer seasons of 2014/2015 and 2015/2016. Results obtained from the study suggest that some months of 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 were canonical to the effect of El Niño over southern Africa, but not all of them during the summer seasons were dry. The wetter than normal conditions in northeast South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe during December 2014 are unfamiliar for a canonical summer El Niño event over southern Africa. Anomalous cooler than normal Sea Surface Temperature (SST) occurred over the west coast and south coast during December 2014 and February 2015, while it is usually warmer during El Niño. Additionally, the colder than normal SST at the south coast during February 2016 and Namibian and West Coast during March 2016 does not mimic the canonical El Niño patterns. However, this did not influence the El Niño-like warmer seasonal SST average during 2015/2016. The lower than normal pressure anomalies over the subcontinent during December 2014 and January 2015 were not portraying a canonical El Niño pattern but the other months were. The seasonal larger than normal pressure at 500 hPa over the subcontinent was more typical of El Niño during summer 2015/2016 and acted to suppress rainfall. Secondly, the study uses the Standard Precipitation Index (SPI) at different time scales (3 months duration, 5 months duration and 17 months duration) to assess the severity of 2015/2016 summer drought compared to the other droughts of the 20th and 21st century (1921 to 2016) and to analyse the relationship between droughts and ENSO. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) rainfall data shows that KwaZulu-Natal was the only region within South Africa, to have the 2015/2016 as the strongest summer drought since 1921 but 2015/2016 was still one of the worst droughts on record in South Africa, especially at the 2 consecutive seasonal scales. In general, droughts are favored by El Niño and wetter conditions by La Niña, but the second strongest El Niño of 1997/1998 led to near normal rainfall over the north-eastern region at all time-scales. The SPI has proven to be very versatile, flexible and very effective to monitor the 2015/2016 summer drought in the complex South African rainfall regime. However, there was little difference between 3 months SPI at the end of February and 5 months SPI at the end of March. For South Africa, the summer rainfall 2015/2016 season had the fifth worst drought after El Niño related drought of 1982/1983 and 1991/1992 and the non-El Niño related droughts of 1967/1968 and 1944/1945. At the 17-month scale, an index that encompasses two summer seasons 2015/2016 was the third worst drought since summer 1921/1922 due to dry conditions in 2014/2015 and 2015/2016.

Abstract:
The purpose of this essay is to find out if Alliansen has lost their Bourgeoisie collective identity. The comprehensive questions of this essay are: Does liberalism or conservatism dominate the manifesto of Alliansen from 2006-2010 compared to the manifesto 2014-2018? Have Alliansen changed their ideological views to the centre of the political spectrum in their manifesto from 2006-2010 compared to the manifesto 2014-2018?   The method used in this essay is a qualitative dimensional study. The results of the essay show that conservatism dominates both manifestos of Alliansen and show that the ideological view of Alliansen has not changed. Alliansens view of human beings in their manifesto from 2006-2010 is pessimistic and so is Alliansens manifesto from 2014-2018 and therefore closer to the conservative ideology than the ideology of liberalism. Alliansens view of society is collectivistic in both the manifesto 2006-2010 and the manifesto 2014-2018 and therefore also closer to the conservative ideology than the ideology of liberalism.

Abstract:
This thesis analyzes the political upheaval in Greece during 2010-2014, a period marked by the economic crisis and the implementation of structural adjustment programs. Based on an empirical study, we demonstrate that the collapse of PASOK and the resulting political change are conditioned both by the internal structure of the party and the adopted policies. Our study focuses on the loss of the social anchors of PASOK, a loss which precedes and decides the electoral fall. The breakdown of socialist party is analyzed correlatively to the emergence of an alternative political offer that is formed through the anti- Memorandum mobilizations. Finally, we analyze how the Memorandum is becoming a major wedge issue determining both the political offer and the electoral alignments. This work is therefore part of a broader perspective that articulates the study of party politics with political crisis’ processes

Abstract:
AbstractProfound developments in terms of scale, diversity of digital media and prosumerism (García-Galera & Valdivia, 2014; Madianou, 2011) in the last decade have resulted in vast monitoring of movement, migratory or otherwise. While migrants have been outlined as digital natives, early adopters and heavy users of digital technologies (Ponzanesi & Leurs, 2014); the intersection of ICT (Information and Communications Technology) and migration is still under-researched (Oiarzabal & Reips 2012), Madianou’s (2011) work being a notable exception. As Leurs and Prabhakar highlight (2018, p. 247), the implications of the rise of ubiquitous and pervasive technologies (software and hardware) for the migration experience can be grouped in two sets of media practices. On the one hand, these technologies are used to reproduce and (forcefully) enforce top-down control by (state) authorities. On the other, they enable migrants - both voluntary and forced - to connect (dis)affectively, manage kinship and other relationships (Cabalquinto, 2018; Madianou, 2012; Prieto-Blanco, 2016), participate in collective processes (Siapera & Veikou, 2013; Martínez Martínez, 2017; Özdemir, Mutluer & Özyürek, 2019), establish a sense of belonging (Yue, Li, Jin, & Feldman, 2013; Budarick, 2015; Gencel-Bek & Prieto-Blanco, 2020), and move money across borders (Aker, 2018; Batista & Narciso, 2013). “[T]he transformed epistolary base and the communication infrastructure of the migrant experience” (Hedge 2016, p. 3), with their distinct affordances, impact on how migration is currently understood via a focus on connectivity and presence. Abstract:
AbstractAs demonstrated in the previous chapters, land in Morocco is mainly used for farming and pastoral activities. These activities are more vulnerable to the consequences of increased precipitation and drought due to climate change. Various modern and traditional adaptation strategies – among which migration to urban centres or abroad – have been used to deal with environmental changes. This suggests that a large share of inhabitants are in some way aware of the changes in their natural environment and already familiar with adaptation strategies (Schilling et al. 2012; Mertz et al. 2009). However, in most studies, researchers focusing on this topic do not relate this to people’s overall views on environmental change and the adaptation strategies employed by the actors involved. When they do, they hardly focus on people living in the MENA region (Nielsen and D’haen 2014); West-Africa (Mertz et al. 2010, 2012; Afifi 2011; De Longueville et al. 2020); DR Congo (Bele et al. 2014; Few et al. 2017); and India (Howe et al. 2014). The only exception is the study on Morocco by Nguyen and Wodon (2014); Wodon et al. 2014). Hence, it is unclear how these environmental changes are actually perceived and how they influence the ways people view and respond to them, and (actively) develop adaptation strategies to deal with such changes (cf. Chap. 10.1007/978-3-030-61390-7_6). This is especially important since perceptions of environmental changes and the risks associated with them vary across and within cultures (Vedwan 2006; Mertz et al. 2009, 2010; Leclerc et al. 2013). Furthermore, there is a perception bias with regard to the perceived environmental changes, as some types of changes, such as rainfall patterns, are more easily noted and compared to others, such as temperature changes (Howe et al. 2014; Few et al. 2017; De Longueville et al. 2020; Bele et al. 2014). Additionally, people mainly remark on changes when these apply to their livelihood activities (Bele et al. 2014; Howe et al. 2014; Wodon et al. 2014; De Longueville et al. 2020). In current research and policymaking, ongoing debates on environmental migration and displacement too frequently assume that everyone perceives environmental change in a similar fashion. This becomes problematic in debates on environmental migration or climate refugees when environmental changes are assumed to automatically result in some kind of (forced) migration, leaving little space for the views and agency of the people involved (Stern 2000; McLeman and Gemenne 2018; Khare and Khare 2006; Rigby 2016).

Abstract:
Work personalization within cognitive capitalism (Alessandrini 2013) demands universities to certify competences that can promote new forms of employability (Boffo, Federighi, Torlone 2015), connected to global network innovation (Steiner et al. 2013). Personal entrepreneurship becomes the heuristic promoter of career changes (Federighi, Torlone 2013). This enables individuals to ask new questions, to provide innovative solutions, and to create endeavours that can extend the current limits of knowledge, or define new ones (Costa 2014). Methodology: The research analysed variables and, by doing so, strengthened entrepreneurial competence (Morselli, Costa 2015; Costa, Strano 2016) from an enabling perspective, involving more than one hundred people going through a career change (Sen 2000). Based on a mixed method (Ponce, Pagán-Maldonado 2015) the research was developed over four phases: 1) Self-assessment (Pittaway, Edwards 2012) of entrepreneurial attitudes; 2) Recognition (Federighi 2014) of emerging competences from global innovation networks; 3) Reflective thinking (Mortari 2003) and switching in terms of awareness (Mezirow 2003); 4) Capability (Sen 2006) of opportunities and resources for the instigation of entrepreneurial action (Costa Strano 2016). Results: The data observed show that during career changes the development of competences is positively linked to age, education, and experience, above all when combined with enabling processes. As for entrepreneurship, training contexts in the service industry prove strategic, even if still too focused solely on the technical-informative dimension. Furthermore, the results show that entrepreneurial training (Pittaway, Edwards 2012) becomes competence that can promote action starting from resources/opportunities in various career changes (Costa 2014)

Abstract:
This paper explains in a de-westernized sense (Gunaratne, 2010) how internet-mediated communication changes the way we deal with and plan time both individually and culturally in Germany and China. Therefore, it blends Western and Eastern culture and media theories. The paper focuses on two distinct phenomena: temporal change due to social media, and Online journalism, as the core of Internet-mediated communication (for Germany 39% communication, media use 24% Projektgruppe ARD/ZDF-Multimedia, 2016; for China 90.7% instant messaging, 82% Internet news China Internet Network Information Center, 2017), with other temporal change via smart devices touched upon (Ash, 2018). General research on time in post modern societies, recently more focused on media’s temporal change phenomena (e.g. Barker, 2012; Barker, 2018; Castells, 2010; Eriksen, 2001; Hartmann, 2016; Hassan, 2003; Innis, 2004; Neverla, 2010a, 2010b; Nowotny, 1995; Rantanen, 2005; Wajcman, 2010; Wajcman and Dodd) has not yet linked the different societal and cultural levels of temporal change. Thus, we suggest the following to fill this research gap: For a micro perspective the notions of network theories (e.g. Granovetter, 1973; Schönhuth, 2013), media synchronicity (Dennis, Fuller, and Valacich, 2008) and the idea of permanent connectivity (Sonnentag, Reinecke, Mata, and Vorderer, 2018; van Dijck, 2013; Vorderer, Krömer, and Schneider, 2016) are linked. On a meso level, institutional change in Online journalism with a focus on acceleration is modeled (Ananny, 2016; Bødker and Sonnevend, 2017; Dimmick, Feaster, and Hoplamazian, 2011; Krüger, 2014; Neuberger, 2010). On a macro level, mediatization theory (Couldry and Hepp, 2017; Krotz, 2001, 2012) and recent acceleration theory (Rosa, 2005, 2012, 2017) is discussed. The levels are systematically linked suggesting a micro-meso-macro-link (Quandt, 2010) to then ask if and how many of the dimensions of the construct temporal understanding (Faust, 2016) can be changed through Internet-mediated communication. Temporal understanding consists of nine dimensions: General past, general future, instrumental experience (monochronicity), fatalism, interacting experience (polychronicity), pace of life, future as planned expectation and result of proximal goals as well as future as trust based interacting expectation and result of present positive behavior. Temporal understanding integrates the anthropological construct of polychronicity (Bluedorn, Kalliath, Strube, and Martin, 1999; Hall, 1984; Lindquist and Kaufman-Scarborough, 2007), pace of life (Levine, 1998) and temporal horizon (Klapproth, 2011) into a broader framework which goes beyond Western biased constructs through the theory driven incorporation of Confucian notions (Chinese Culture Connection, 1987). Finally, meta trends are laid out.

Abstract:
Teachers are moral agents. Acting professionally in loco parentis teachers have a legal and moral duty of care to students (DES, 2017). Moreover, they can be regarded as moral ‘role models’ (Bergen, 2006; Lumpkin, 2013). Professional codes of practice assist teachers in their moral agency (Alberta Teachers’ Association, 2004; CDET, 2017; DfE, 2011; Education Council, 2017; Teaching Council, 2012; 2016; World Class Teachers, 2017). In conjunction with official codes of conduct, TE ethics programmes contribute to the development of “a moral language” and raise awareness of moral agency in teaching (Shapira-Lishchinsky, 2010). In 2014 the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG) and the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) jointly developed a cross-institutional training programme entitled ‘The Ethical Teacher Programme’, designed to facilitate student teachers to reflect upon professionalism and ethics during School Placement. The programme incorporated both a study of the Teaching Council Code of Professional Conduct for Teachers (Code) (2012) and explorations of selected ethical ‘case studies’ in teaching, using collaborative learning (CL) and role play strategies. The ‘ethical dilemma’ approach employed mirrored literature studies (Colenerud, 1997; Husu & Tiri, 2003; Klassen, 2002). Unique to the approach, however, was the method of application of selected classical and contemporary ethical philosophies to moral dilemmas in teaching. The programme was designed to include a one-hour introductory lecture on professionalism and ethics (from the perspectives of moral literacy and ethical theory) followed by a two-hour applied workshop. The workshop employed student-centred, active teaching and learning methods, specifically, collaborative learning, role play and case study analysis. Six ethical philosophical principles (or ‘lenses’) were integrated into programme delivery - teleology, deontology, virtue ethics, justice ethics, care ethics and relationality ethics. These lenses were applied to real-world teaching case studies. One cohort to which this training programme is offered annually is the student teachers on the Professional Master of Education (PME) programme in NUIG. The PME cohort (2015-2016) is the focus of the present study. The study sought a critical reflection on, and evaluation of, this training programme, from a student perspective. This study is phase one of a larger on-going study.

Agricola, Adrián, Michal Bozděch, Martin Zvonař, and Jiří Zháněl. "The Relative Age Effect in Top100 Female Tennis Players (2014–2018)." In 12th International Conference on Kinanthropology. Brno: Masaryk University Press, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.5817/cz.muni.p210-9631-2020-34.

Abstract:
The theory of Relative Age Effect (RAE) works on the assumption that athletes born at the beginning of a calendar year are more successful than athletes born in the end of the year. The athletes born early have a significant probability of a higher level of physiological, mor-phological and psychological abilities than later born athletes. Several studies show that the RAE was not found in females or it was significantly lower than in males. The research objective was to find out the influence of RAE in WTA Tour TOP100 female professional tennis players (n=500) in 2014–2018. Cohen’s effect size (ES) w was calculated to assess the level of the influence of RAE. To assess the differences between the observed and the expected relative age quarter distribution, Chi-Square test (ꭕ2) was used. In terms of effect size (ES), a medium influence of RAE has been proven in 2016 and 2017 (w = 0.33, resp. w = 0.30); a small influence has been proven in years 2014, 2015, 2018 and in the whole observed period 2014–2018. Based on statistical analysis, the influence of RAE cannot be rejected in years 2016 (p 0.05). The next step was to assess the influence of RAE on the final WTA ranking in 2014–2018. Players have been divided into four intervals: 1–25, 26–50, 51–75 and 76–100 positions. ES has showed the medium influence of RAE in 76–100 positions (w = 0.34); only small influence of RAE was found in other positions. Statistical analysis showed that the influence of RAE cannot be rejected in 1–25, 26–50 and 76–100 positions (p < 0.05): it can be rejected in 54–75 positions. The results of the research have shown the medium influence of RAE in 2016 and 2017: in the recent years (and in the whole observed period of 2014–2018), the influence of RAE was small. The influence of RAE on the final WTA ranking is also small, except the 76–100 positions.

Medina, José Manuel, Tatiana Herreros, Pamela De Barca, and Carolina Crovetto. "PEDAGOGICAL INTERACTIONS IN PRIMARY SCHOOL REINTEGRATION PROCESSES: A CASE STUDY IN CHILE." In International Conference on Education and New Developments. inScience Press, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.36315/2021end046.

Abstract:
In Chile, despite the great coverage achieved, there are still children and adolescents who leave school without being able to complete 12 years of compulsory education (Casen, 2015); moreover, among the countries that make up the OECD, Chile is in the first places of deschooling (TALIS, 2013). This marginalization from the school system is affecting a significant number of children and hindering areas of integration and social development, which accentuates processes of social exclusion and violation of rights in Chile (Casen, 2015; Mide-UC, 2016; Mineduc, 2017). This is reinforced by pedagogical practices that strengthen these probabilities of failure (Román, 2013). The phenomenon of school reintegration has little evidence in relation to the human and technical component in school reintegration processes, either locally (Mide-UC, 2016; UNESCO-UNICEF-Chilean Association of Municipalities, 2012), or internationally (CEPAL, 2010; Contreras et al, 2014; Sucre, 2016), which implies observing and analyzing pedagogical intervention practices in these contexts, in terms of how these dialogical-reflective relational dynamics between teachers and children and adolescents are developed, from the perspective of pedagogical interactions, an area of growing interest in educational sciences, which looks at more than the action itself, at how and what happens in the interaction. (Colomina et al, 2001) This research from a qualitative, transactional approach, oriented from the perspective of descriptive studies (Hernández,et al, 2010) and enriched with the symbolic interactionism of Blumer (1969), whose contributions indicate that the nature of the teaching-learning processes can only be unraveled through direct examination, seeks to understand pedagogical intervention practices from the perspective of pedagogical interactions which are developed between teachers and their students, within the framework of the specialized protection programs in school reintegration implemented in Chile by the National Service for Minors of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, in vulnerable sectors of the communes of Talca, Region of Maule and La Pintana, Metropolitan Region. The analysis through the theoretical and empirical contributions provided by the scientific evidence on pedagogical interactions, in terms of how they are configured, deployed and how these pedagogical intervention practices are perceived by the actors involved, added to the findings obtained, provides an opportunity to innovate by allowing the observation of school reintegration as a scenario of human relations and to deepen around this professional action as a critical element, constituting the improvement of teaching and effectiveness in school reintegration processes.

Abstract:
À luz do materialismo histórico-dialético, o trabalho é pesquisa qualitativa, consubstanciada por Marx (2013), Tiriba & Fischer (2015), Tiriba (2012), Vendramini & Tiriba (2018), Reis & Gomes (2012), Pinto (2001, 2004, 2013), Rodrigues (2012), dentre outros.

Abstract This presentation is chronologically-progressive to the author's ISTFA Keynote given in 2010: "Counterfeiters' Techniques: Constantly Improving to Avoid Detection - National Security Depends on Us to Keep Up". It shares, in detail, the forensic test methodologies utilized by SMT and ultimately the research breakthroughs which gave the labs crystal-clear insight into the counterfeiters specific step-by-step rework process. The presentation includes all forensic work utilized in exposing the "Micro-blast" & "Flat-Lap" counterfeit processes identified at SMT labs during 2011, as well as unpublished novel process threats and refinements identified in 2013 & 2014. It also covers the counterfeit mitigation work that SMT supported with the GAO and Senate Armed Services Committee's investigation into counterfeits within DoD supply chains during the 2011-2012 time period.
