Chen, Qinqing, and Xiao Su. "Improve Improper Load Distribution with Backpack." Thesis, Högskolan Kristianstad, Fakulteten för naturvetenskap, 2018. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:hkr:diva-18766.

Full text
Abstract:
This article focuses on the distribution of backpack pressure on human body. We have noticed two interesting situations: whether the length of different backpack shoulder straps will change the pressure distribution of the backpack on the human body and whether different positions of the backpack load will change the pressure distribution of the backpack on the human body. To find the answer, we designed a backpack pressure detection system to collect data and use engineering software to analyse the data.We got the range that best fits the human body and the healthiest backpack: when the distance from the top of the backpack to the shoulder is about 1/5 of the length of the shoulder and the weight of the backpack is at the bottom of the backpack. At this time, the force of the three parts of the human body (shoulders, back) is the most uniform and relatively minimal. If the user wants to minimize the pressure on the shoulder, the shoulder strap of the backpack should be as short as possible. If the user only wants the pressure on the back to be minimal, the weight in the backpack is closer to the back, which is better for the back.

Walton, Deborah A. "Improved Rehabilitation by Improving Discharge Processes to Decrease Readmissions." ScholarWorks, 2018. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/5534.

Full text
Abstract:
Inadequate discharge planning for individuals with chronic illnesses or injuries is associated with increased readmissions to the hospital or rehabilitation facility where the original treatments were administered. To help ensure the recovery of discharged patients and avoid readmissions, discharge planners guide medication and care processes. The rate of readmissions was high in a stand-alone rehabilitation center due to ineffective discharge plans. Patients, family members, and caregivers lacked knowledge about medications, treatments, and self-care guidelines after the patient left the facility. The purpose of this project was to ascertain the impact of improved discharge processes using the (a) IDEAL Discharge Planning Overview, Process, and Checklist; (b) the teach-back Method training for discharge nurses; and (c) the Postdischarge Rehabilitation Services Follow-Up Tool incorporating telephone calls to all participants during Weeks 1, 2, and 4 postdischarge. Lewin's theory of planned change undergirded this project. According to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services data, the rate of readmissions among the 50 participants was 4.4%, compared with 6% (all-facility readmission rate) during the same quarter of the prior year. Findings from this project suggest that reductions in readmissions were associated with improvements in discharge planning, training of caregivers, and the use of national tools to standardize practices in reducing readmissions. The implication of this project for positive social change is that patient-centered inpatient rehabilitation care and patient-centered care following discharge may reduce readmissions, reduce costs, improve reimbursement, and reduce deterioration of patients' conditions postdischarge.

Edgar, Cara, and Dilek Tanyildiz. "Warehouse Analysis and Improvement for Färggrossen : A Multiple Case Study." Thesis, Linköping University, Logistics, 2009. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-21903.

Full text
Abstract:

Färggrossen is a warehousing company that was established in 1976. The company has over 400 customers ranging across mid and south Sweden; it stores 5,000 different types of products such as paints, wallpapers, chemicals and tools which are used for painting.

Since its establishment, the company has not changed how it manages its warehouse. Decisions are based on the warehouse manager’s personal memory and decisions, and this method worked sufficiently well until the company was bought by Mikael Lindgren in September 2008. Lindgren, the CEO, believed that the company had more potential, which is why the company has eagerly started to make changes in order to improve the warehouse operations as well as to reach its full potential. This thesis is to guide the company to reach this goal.

At our first meeting with Färggrossen, improvements regarding different processes as well as the warehouse layout were identified. As a first step, a literature study was conducted in order to gain deeper insight and understanding about warehouse layouts; also we benefited from studying literature regarding different warehouse aspects from a system perspective: inputs, processes and outputs.

Subsequent to the literature study, we identified those thesis research questions which needed to be answered in order to improve the warehouse management at Färggrossen. The next step was to decide which methods should be used in order to answer these questions. After researching different methodology options, a meeting with Färggrossen and our supervisor Bengt Ekdahl took place where we, together, decided to use the multiple case study method.

Färggrossen suggested that we study two other companies, BSAB and ECO; according to them, these companies had similar warehouses. To be able to benchmark three companies, we needed to understand the warehousing management systems of all three companies, which is why we conducted our interviews.

Once we finished gathering the required data, we defined the three companies’ activities in a manner to correspond with the terminology which is used in the literature.  In the analysis chapter we compared the three companies, and also used the information from the literature in order to provide Färggrossen with recommendations on how to improve the warehouse processes and layout. These are categorised as main, secondary and future recommendations; the main recommendations are the most important and inexpensive to implement, which is why we strongly suggest that they are prioritized.

The two most important recommendations to improve the outputs of the warehouse system are implementing a serialized locater addressing system and defining a bulk area to support the replenishment process. These particular modifications will improve the overall efficiency of the warehouse system as well as the product availability and the customer satisfaction.

The overall efficiency of the warehouse system will be further improved by eliminating manual labour as much as possible and combining the inspections whih are done in the receiving process with the putaway process.

The product condition will be improved if the following recommendations are implemented; a small shelf solution which is used in ECO, a fixed slot system in the wallpaper area and the implementation of safety precautions in the company.

The purpose of this thesis was to map and analyze Färggrossen in order to improve the inventory, warehouse layout and the methods being used in the warehouse management. With our recommendations, the company will have an improved and new warehouse layout, the processes will be improved and the efficiency will be increased.

Ullén, Anders. "Strategies to improve cancer radioimmunotargeting." Doctoral thesis, Umeå universitet, Klinisk immunologi, 1996. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:umu:diva-141302.

Full text
Abstract:
Radioimmunotherapy (RIT) and radioimmunolocalisation (RIL) are developing and promising technologies to diagnose and treat tumours by use of radiolabelled antibodies targeting tumour specific antigens. The major reason why RIL and RIT not are efficient enough, is the comparatively low accumulation of radiolabelled antibodies in the tumours. Irrespective of the antigen - antibody system used, the maximal tumour uptake in humans is often limited to below 0.1 % of the total injected dose, with significant radionuclide remaining in the blood pool and extravascular fluid. In the present thesis, the following putative improvement techniques for radioimmunotargeting have been evaluated in an experimental model using HeLa cell-xenografted nude mice: 1) Repetitive, simultaneous targeting of different antigens, 2) Removal of non-targeting antibodies using secondary antiidiotypic antibodies, 3) Preinjection of unlabelled antibody to remove shedded antigen and 4) Use of fractionated antibody administration. By use of multiple injections of mixtures of two different 131I-labelled monoclonal antibodies targeting placental alkaline phosphatase (H7) and cytokeratin 8 (TS1), respectively, a significant tumour growth inhibition compared to controls, was obtained. In the treated group, a negligible increase in tumour volume was seen compared to the control group, in which a 20-fold increase was observed. Quantitative determinations of volume densities of viable tumour cells, necrotic cells and connective tissue demonstrated no significant differences in the relative proportions between the groups, indicating that the irradiation caused decelerated growth. Using hybridoma technology, monoclonal antiidiotypic antibodies were generated against both TS1 and H7. The in vitro and in vivo effects of these antibodies, aH7 and aTSl, were investigated. Both these antiidiotypes were found to generate stable complexes with the radiolabelled idiotypic antibody, as revealed by gel-electrophoresis and autoradiography. Using biosensor technology (BIAcore, Pharmacia) the interactions were followed in real time and the association rate-, dissociation rate-, and affinity constants between the reactants were determined. In vivo, the antiidiotypes promoted a rapid dose dependent clearance of the 125I-labelled idiotypes with a decrease in total body radioactivity and concomitant dramatic increase in non-protein bound 125I excreted in the urine. The syngeneic monoclonal antiidiotypic antibody αTSl, was furthermore evaluated as a secondary clearing antibody at radioimmunolocalisation. Injection of αTSl in a molar ratio of 0.5-0.75:1 to TS1, 24 hours after the 125I-labelled TS1 improved the tumour to normal tissue ratio 2-3 fold. This was due to a decreased level of total body radioactivity as well as a slight decrease in tumour-radioactivity. A model describing the kinetics of the involved components, i.e. the antigen, the idiotype and the antiidiotype was presented. It is concluded that high affinity monoclonal antiidiotypes can be used as tools to regulate the levels of idiotypic antibodies in vivo. This strategy, combined with preinjection of nonlabelled idiotypic antibodies, caused accumulated doses of 3 Gy to the tumour and 0.9 Gy to non tumour tissues as calculated for 125I-labelled antibodies (80 MBq/mg) by MIRD formalism based on repetitive quantitative radioimmunoscintigraphies. By approaching the maximal tolerated whole body radiation dose for mice (i.e. 6 Gy), it can be estimated that doses up to 20 Gy are possible to obtain following one single injection of labelled antibody. It was furthermore demonstrated that a single bolus injection of antibody is to be preferred, compared to exactly the same dose divided into three or ten fractions. Thus, not only the dose of radioactivity, but also the amount of antibody should be considered for fractionated RIT. In summary, the thesis demonstrates that several techniques can be used to improve radioimmunolocalisation and to approach the proposed 70 Gy required to sterilise tumours at radioimmunotherapy.

Horton, Sandra L. "Interventions to improve grading proficiency." Thesis, Indiana Wesleyan University, 2016. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3742933.

Abstract:

Declining scholarly writing abilities are well-documented among college students and are of particular concern in schools of nursing whose graduates are groomed to become leaders in the nation’s healthcare system. Reasons for students’ poor writing are multifactorial; however, faculty’s inability to correctly identify errors and wide variability in grading practices have been identified as major components. A doctoral translating evidence into nursing practice project was designed to study the effectiveness of a faculty-focused writing course on (1) improving identification of errors, (2) reducing inaccurate feedback, and (3) reducing grading variability. This descriptive, crosssectional, interventional study was implemented at a private liberal arts university in the Midwest. Results were measured by having participants grade the same fictitious student paper containing 41 grammatical, punctuation, capitalization, and APA formatting errors pre and post the interventional course. Sixty-seven participants completed the four-week online writing course, and 43 participants completed the study with fully evaluable data. The writing course significantly increased the number of errors identified and decreased the number of inaccurate comments on the fictitious paper; however, overall grading variability remained unchanged. The study identified characteristics of faculty most proficient in grading practices and ways to potentially improve faculty writing and grading abilities. The creation of a guide to assist students in writing and faculty with grading APA formatted papers was an incidental outcome of the study.

Thayne, Jeffrey L. "Making Statistics Matter: Using Self-data to Improve Statistics Learning." DigitalCommons@USU, 2016. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/5214.

Full text
Abstract:
Research has demonstrated that well into their undergraduate and even graduate education, learners often struggle to understand basic statistical concepts, fail to see their relevance in their personal and professional lives, and often treat them as little more than mere mathematics exercises. This study explored ways help learners in an undergraduate learning context to treat statistical inquiry as mattering in a practical research context, by inviting them to ask questions about and analyze large, real, messy datasets that they have collected about their own personal lives (i.e., self-data). This study examined the conditions under which such an intervention might (and might not) successfully lead to a greater sense of the relevance of statistics to undergraduate learners.
