Full textThe objective of this thesis is to create new nanostructured surfaces with bioactive coatings and to study theirs physicochemical properties in order to develop better dental implants designs and promote their osseointegration. This functionalization was performed in two steps; starting by the nanostructuration of TiO2 surface by anodisation to create reactive sites on the edges of titanium nanotubes which acts as points of “attachment" to bioactive coatings. The second step was the surface chemical modification by coating the nanostructured surface with bioactive coatings of calcium phosphate (CaP) and strontium doped calcium phosphate (Sr.CaP). This coating was performed by pulsed electrodeposition. The physicochemical characterization by XPS, SEM and IR showed that doping with Sr promotes a non-apatitic compound similar to DCPD or DCPA (Dicalcium Phosphate Dihydrate or Anhydrous), while undoped CaP coating looks like an amorphous apatite-like compound ACP. The addition of strontium has the double advantage of optimizing the cellular multiplication and of giving an inorganic phase with bio-performance better than apatitic compounds. We also evaluated the adsorption proprieties of these functionalized surfaces by investigating the adsorption of proteins (BSA). This adsorption was performed onto tblank nanotubes, nanotubes coated with CaP and Sr doped CaP and evaluated according to deposition time and to the pH value of the solution that affect both protein and surface charge. The kinetic and structural evaluation reveals different adsorption geometries according to pH and adsorption time and also according to the chemical nature of surface. Such results of protein adsorption and conformation may form a database to understand and control protein activities and reactions with living body when used for dental implants system

Full textThis research based on the study of two levels of damage focused on the implant connection: firstly, the wear associated with the opening/closing cycle dedicated to the manufacturing process; secondly, the damage over the time, that is a fretting-corrosion study of dental implants in human saliva. During the tightening/loosening cycles, damage to all the components is present. The screws that include the majority of the complications have to be changed after 20 tightening cycles. The use of laboratory screws limits the damage and optimizes the preload value. When the prosthesis and the implant are assemblies, the damage appears thanks to fretting/corrosion (tribocorrosion) behavior. This phenomenon does involve synergistic wear and a modification of the microstructure on the fretting surfaces

Full textThe work carried out concerns the development titanium alloys with elastic gradient. They are part of the development of materials dedicated to dental implantology, in collaboration with the company Biotech Dental. The elastic discontinuity observed at the bone / implant interface has been called into question in the occurrence of bone resorption phenomena which can lead to implant failures. The lowering of the surface modulus could then allow a more appropriate transfer of stresses which would lead to an improvement of the osseointegration. An upstream work, based on the consideration of electronic parameters and biocompatibility elements, made it possible to select alloys which can exhibit a great elastic variability: Ti-13Nb-13Zr (wt.%) and Ti-20Nb-6Zr (at.%). A preliminary study carried out on laminated samples allowed to confirm this variability and to associate the elastic bounds obtained with different microstructural states. On the basis of these observations, we have developed approaches combining sequences of deformation and short heat treatments on massive samples. Thus, on the TNZ, a surface deformation approach by shot peening applied on a β-quenched state made it possible to obtain a gradient of 65 GPa to 85 GPa over 400 μm. And a preferential dissolution approach on the Ti-13-13 has lead to a gradient of 75 GPa to 130 GPa on 100 μm, via the realization of flash thermal treatments on massive samples in the precipitated state previously shot-peened. These results have thus validated the previously designed material - strategy - process combinations. They also allowed a rationalization of the different possible approaches to obtain the elasticity gradient
